Cristo de la Luz - Toledo The interior of the former ‘Mezquita Bab-al-Mardum’ (999-1000) in Toledo is dominated by four column that divide the space into nine bays, each with its own vault. Each column is capped with a capital, as seen on photo 1; these might originate from an older Visigothic structure. The horseshoe arches supported by the columns are typical for the Islamic architecture of the Iberian Peninsula. Each of the nine vaults has its own design composed of ribs, such as the one seen on photo 2. These vaults are miniature versions of those of the great mosque of Córdoba.
