AETHER recovered (love the stylization of the names, by the way)! Did this yesterday but oh well.
Beta secured (finally).
Stillsands Tallneck done! So so fun, bringing down a Tallneck was truly a magical experience considering how absolutely impenetrable and monolithic they were in Zero Dawn. Can't wait to do more.

Writing Wrap!
Sometimes I forget this blog is called apricity-writes because I never actually post my writing here, but GOSH DANG I wrote a lot this year!
Starting off strong with the word count—which is absolutely crazy.

I don't think I've written this many words in my LIFE before, and then all of a sudden this year came and the writing bug had me by the throat.
I started reading and writing on Ao3 for the first time ever in January of this year, and I now have 387,383 published words. Which is so crazy to me!!
All of this is thanks to Horizon, and really to the fandom specifically. If it wasn't for all the amazing people reading and commenting and supporting me, I don't think I could have written even a fraction of what I have now.
Now for the fics themselves!
Wordiest Fic
Letters to the Wind - 120,908 words
A rewrite/Canon divergent take on HFW — aka I wanted to make Aloy and Kotallo smooch and ended up with world building and trauma instead
(This is my pet project. My baby. I love this series)
Most Popular Fic
Time Like Grains of Sand - 155 Kudos
A time travel/NG+ AU where Aloy wakes up three days before the proving with all of her memories—and all the knowledge she needs to gather her friends and change the future
(I didn't expect this one to get so popular for how small it is)
Most Commented Fic
Love You Better - 252 comments
Left in the aftermath of Nemesis, Aloy and Kotallo end up breaking up, leaving just one more thing in the wreckage of what the world was once. But the past isn't the only thing that got changed in this moment.
(This comes as no surprise. I have garnered much screaming and heartbreak from this fic. The angst is absolutely delicious I love it)
My First Fic
Sleepless Nights - January 20th, 2024
Aloy cannot sleep — and Kotallo cannot leave his commander to suffer alone.
(This was the fic that started it all! The spark to this crazy journey that this year has been!)
Once again, absolutely big thank yous to everyone who has read or supported my fics in any way this past year! Here's to another year of chaos—and happy reading and writing to you all!!
#writing#fic writing#horizon forbidden west#horizon zero dawn#aloy hfw#kotallo hfw#aloy x kotallo#writers on tumblr#year in review#In which I get terrified by my own word count#And wonder if I'll ever achieve something like this again#New years resolution includes actually writing something original for once#Maybe#If I'm lucky lol

Horizon Forbidden West - Review

So I’ve just finished the main quest of Burning Shores and wow… it was amazing.
I picked the brain option aka “I’m not ready for this” just because, for me, Aloy was just learning how to make and accept friends at the end of HFW and I felt romance was a bit too sudden for her regardless of who it would’ve been, and the dialogue did not disappoint, it was written perfectly! Exactly where I thought she was mentally. Regardless the dialogue about home made me tear up.
It’s set up for romance in Horizon 3 which will be enough of a time jump to actually kick off romance.
Again, this is just my opinion of where I think Aloy is at currently in her arc, I’ve seen others post the kiss option and Aloy’s beaming face is precious. I haven’t tested the fist option yet.
But honestly all the outrage I’ve been seeing, after sitting down and playing it myself, it is blown way out of proportion, like many fandom dramas are!
Anyway, ‘twas great, the music was beautiful as well!
#hfw#hfw spoilers#hfw:bs#I’m sat here beaming like an idiot god I love this game series#I’m gonna write a proper review soon because DAMN there were so many epic moments in this DLC#I really enjoyed it overall#just gotta do the epilogue first#horizon forbidden west

âHorizon Zero Dawn Remasteredâ game review: Why itâs worth revisiting in 2024
Still from âHorizon Zero Dawn Remasteredâ | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement There is no better time than now to dive into the Horizon series, a remarkable open-world experience that took players by surprise in 2017. When Horizon Zero Dawn debuted, it brought an entirely unique adventure filled with mystery and creativity that few studios today dare to explore. Sonyâs gamble on Guerrilla…

First Tallneck done and woah. It's the one where you rotate the satellite disk, Cinnabar Sands... It was so fun! It felt a lot more involved than the first game ( maybe it was the exact same, idk, it just felt more fun and quest-y), and I loved the little bit of puzzle solving in there.
Six hours clocked so far and I'm getting to really appreciate this game.

Quick Thoughts - Horizon: Forbidden West
This special Sunday I am going to talk about Horizon: Forbidden West. I honestly forgot that DLC came out for it so I am playing it to catch up. I like it but the grind is something to be desired. #Blog #HorizonForbiddenWest #Indie #Videogames
I have not done one of these for some time now and I have been playing quite a lot of Forbidden West because I had forgotten that Burning Shores released, so I want to catch up on story beats and such. Let us look at what I think about my 45 hours journey. Pros: The game, even now, looks stellar. I have been playing it on performance mode and it still looks beautiful. The sci-fi story is fun.…

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores
There aren’t many video games that I have the desire to play in addition to. For me, either the expansion is a mess of things that the developers forgot to add to the game, or it brings minor little things that don’t fundamentally affect the story or experience for me. However, there are exceptions that do not meet any of these criteria, and the Horizon Forbidden West expansion called Burning…

Long time no see! Yes! I’m back after a little bit of a break.
What’s brought me back? A DLC? That’s what I’m back for?
Well….yes, but it’s because in the last four month’s I’ve become obsessed with Horizon Forbidden West, so it was pretty good timing that Burning Shores only just came out. I missed the boat on reviewing Forbidden West, so Burning Shores it is.
And oh boy! I go away for four months and decided to punish myself by making a 19 minute long video (how did I do that? I don’t even think the DLC is that long – that was a joke…mostly – spoilers! Watch the video for what I think!). I’d wanted to have this finished three days ago to tie in with when my leave from my job ended but…no…that didn’t happen. There was a point while I was working from home that I was working at my work laptop and along at the other end of my desk my laptop was exporting the video so I could review it and correct any issues on my lunch break. I’ve been driven a little crazy…I’m going to have to take another four-month break after all of this.
At this point if I’ve missed anything else it’s because on my very last quality review before posting, I couldn’t stand to listen to myself for 19 whole minutes again and just decided ‘yeah, it’s done’. All I did was turn up some audio, it’s fine…I think.
Please note, there appears to be some framerate drops in a small bit of the footage, this wasn’t in any way shape or form the game. My CPU in my laptop just…could not cope when I was capturing footage. Like I said…I’ve really been punished while working on this.
While editing I realised I sound quite negative about most of the DLC, but that’s not really true. I’ve had a blast with this – I just have some criticisms like I normally do.
I’ve made a joke asking how long I’ll have to wait for a third game and ironically Guerrilla Games have quietly and unofficially announced that they’re working on the next chapter of Aloy’s story. Guess I’ve got a long time to play in photomode then. If anybody’s interested, I do tend to post a lot of my Virtual Photography here:
Twitter: https://twitter.com/holo_daxy
Picashot: https://app.picashot.co/user/holodaxy
With all that being said, enjoy the video! Let me know your thoughts on the game in the comments! And hopefully (or maybe not for some people) I’ll be back soon with another video.
