Candle Cove Headcanons

Just a bunch of randomly assorted headcanons from a fella who, somehow, HAD NO IDEA THE WIKI EXISTED ALL THESE YEARS. So, these headcanons only really include Janice, Percy, the Laughingstock, Horace, and the Skintaker lol. So these are some of my thoughts during the last 12 years of only having the original Creepypasta and the Channel Zero show to work with.

• Some people remember a pilot or prototype of a pilot, where instead of Janice, there was a unnamed boy. He was taller than basically every puppet, since it seemed like whatever studio or being that was making the show hadn't figured out perspective illusions to make him look shorter than them. The only puppet that was different was the Skintaker, since he was a life-sized Halloween skeleton prop tied to strings, in order to make him taller than the boy. The main storyline of that episode was Percy being frightened, thinking that due to the boy's size, he was in some way related to the Skintaker. During the episode, there'd be times where they'd stop acting and try to calm the boy down, because he kept breaking down from distress, scared that the people watching would think he's related to the Skintaker.

• Percy's voice is actually a bit deeper to medium in pitch. The creators tried a higher pitched tone, but found it too grating to listen to, and were scared kids or their parents would find the protagonist insufferable. So, they gave the high pitch tone to Horace the Horrible, because he's a villain, and gave Percy a more soothing voice to listen to. The Skintaker has a very, very deep voice to try to indicate that he's a villain, which was made by using some voice effects on top of an already naturally deep voice actor. Janice just uses actress's her normal voice, since she's already a child and probably wouldn't be good at keeping a fake voice on for long.

• The Laughingstock crew consists of Percy, the Laughingstock, and Janice. After the first three episodes, however, there's always a "guest" on the ship that only appears during that episode and leaves at the end. Percy does often talk about "his previous crew", claiming they betrayed him, so he started his line pirating career. However, whenever Janice tries to ask more about them, he refuses to answer.

• The Skintaker is after Percy, specifically. Sure, if he can get somebody else and knows he can't get Percy, he'll go after them. However, if he thinks he can get to Percy, he'll ignore everyone else and go after him. Percy is well aware of this, and that's a large part of why he's so cowardly.

• The Studio making Candle Cove had tried to make an excuse for Percy being made of multiple different, clearly not meant to be put together, doll parts. They did so by saying Percy is made of different parts of different people. They also said this is why the Skintaker goes after him so often, since the Skintaker sees it as being like skinning multiple people at once. This was never clarified, so the audience just has to live with the knowledge that, for whatever reason, Percy is made of multiple people. It's also why some people mistake him for being the villain, as the Skintaker skinning people could be mistaken for Percy's... Whatever Percy has going on.

• Janice tends to stay safe from actual sword fighting in the show. Usually, Percy fights for her because she's very young and is still learning how to fight. However, she's always present during sword fights, and does get involved in other types of fighting, like fist fights and whatever else the show can come up with. The only person in the show she's never fought is the Skintaker, since he doesn't want to skin her at the moment.

• The Laughingstock only talks to Percy. Janice doesn't seem to hear it talking. Neither does Horace, or the Skintaker. The other characters even show confusion whenever Percy starts talking to the Laughingstock. There was even a gag where Percy would even break the fourth wall and ask the audience if they could hear it, and when he'd turn and tell the others we hear the Laughingstock talking, they'd just look even more confused and ask who he's talking to. This is in spite of the fact every character breaks the fourth wall at least once during the show.

• The Skintaker doesn't want to skin Janice. This isn't out of the kindness of his nonexistent heart. He just wants to wait until she's older and has thicker skin so it'd be easier to grind, which seems to be a nod to the fact that the skin of children is actually a bit thinner than adults.

• Horace shows up more often than the Skintaker in the show. He also never calls Percy or Janice by their real names, besides his last ever time talking to Percy, when he finally does. He calls Janice "Brat" and Percy "Coward".

• Percy, Horace, and the Skintaker are shown to drink root beer often. However, Percy is always shown to drink to most root beer, with Horace even commenting that he might have a problem. The Skintaker claims that he has technically never drank root beer, because it goes right through him, but he likes the taste.

• Throughout the show, Percy grows more and more cowardly, to the point his fear just turns into a full-blown paranoia. This is another reason why some people remember Percy being the villain, since in the last episode, he grows so paranoid that Janice might betray him that he turns on her by attacking her at a cave.

• That was also the episode where Horace finally refers to Percy by his name, with most people who do remember this episode remembering Horace confronting Percy by saying "Again, Percy? Really?" The line seemingly implies that Percy has done such a thing before, possibly to his last crew. Horace then went to tell the Skintaker that the Coward had done it again, only for the Skintaker to laugh for a minute straight.

• The show ended on a cliffhanger. We don't know if Janice survived or not, but considering the episode ended with a "To be continued...?" screen, she was most likely intended to. That, or the studio chose to leave it up to interpretation in case they were not renewed, which ended up being the case, as no more episodes of Candle Cove aired.

• The Screaming Episode randomly aired off and on again. Nobody knows where it would've gone in the timeline, if anywhere at all.

• The episodes always ended with Percy and Janice going to sleep. Percy would call asleep at his desk, in the Captain's Quarters, and Janice would like down in a hammock below the deck. During episodes that included Horace or the Skintaker, it'd show them going to bed, where Horace would curl up in a sleeping bag and the Skintaker would just kind of... stare at the screen for a minute or two. Then, after everybody went to bed, there was footage of a live action candle being blown out. The only episodes that didn't end this way were The Screaming Episode, which cut off abruptly, and the final episode, which has Percy sitting on the Laughingstock alone before the "To be continued...?" screen popped up.

Episode 2: The Stranger on the Roof

Welcome once again to CandleCove Island. I decided against adding more characters this time because Milo, Horace, and Skin-Taker haven't really met anyone yet, and I wanted to give them time to acclimate to their new environment. But I'm glad I didn't because I have the feeling a particular friendship wouldn't have formed if I did....

FRIENDSHIP

Poppy made friends with Horace.

Percy made friends with Skin-Taker.

Skin-Taker made friends with Horace.

Skin-Taker made friends with Janice.

Percy and Poppy had a minor fight (about what, I don't know), but they worked it out.

Skin-Taker made friends with Poppy, and not only that, but 2 minutes after they met, they became best friends.

Let's see how long this lasts.

FOOD

Janice and Horace had some very specific cravings that day.

I couldn't actually give them those foods because the food store just opened and it only has about 20 items in stock total, so instead I gave Janice popcorn (which she didn't like) and Horace octopus (which he did like).

Speaking of being picky...

CLOTHING

Wh... "jewel dress"??

Buddy. This is THE most expensive clothing item in the game. Who do you think I am? (He didn't even ask nicely, geez!)

I did give him a different dress, but he wasn't quite satisfied with it.

Maybe he wanted to show off to other pirates how much jewels and treasure he has? I don't know.

Janice, Horace, and Skin-Taker also asked for clothes, and I figured I'd give Poppy and Milo something as well so they wouldn't have to keep wearing the default clothes.

EVERYTHING ELSE

Milo asked for an interior, so I got him one.

I don't think it suits him that well (it looks way too clean and stylish), but the interior store didn't have a lot of selection.

Also, I unfortunately can't change Horace's and Skin-Taker's hellish checkerboard interiors because I haven't made that much money in this game yet. Milo's interior alone cost me half my savings.

I gave Skin-Taker this thing called a "rent-a-cat coupon," so now a cat will come visit him sometimes.

I also gave Milo a punching bag so he could have a healthy outlet for his violent tendencies.

Also, I don't have video evidence of this, but please believe me when I say Milo farted LOUDLY, MULTIPLE TIMES while I was scrolling through the apartments. He disgusts me.

I gave Horace and Skin-Taker catchphrases.

Everyone wanted to take baths that day for some reason? And asking me to give them bath sets?

Probably because of Milo's farty ass stinking up the apartment building and making everyone want to wash the smell off themselves...

Janice tried to sell me some octopus.

Milo had a strange experience that day...

how much older do you guys think poppy is then milo? im thinking about 8 to 15 years older or so. i also think that poppy and horace horrible are the same age as each other. like 29 to 35ish and milo is like 20 to 30ish but im leaning towards 23 years old.

"The good natured protagonists of Candle Cove are Percy and Janice, who-"

PLOT TWIST! Nobody is truly good in my version of Candle Cove. Unless you don't count Janice because she's just a bratty kid and nowhere NEAR the levels of the others.

Percy's a pirate. He wants to do pirate things, even if he's too scared to do them. Pirate things are not just digging up treasure.

Horace Horrible may have sympathetic reasonings to do what he does, but that doesn't excuse all his cruel actions towards people. It doesn't excuse any of the crimes he's done, either. He may be a skrunkly scrimblo in the Candle Cove fanon version, but he is not skrunkly scrimblo in (my) Candle Cove canon.

The Skintaker is the Skintaker.

The show's basically three horrible people and a bratty child going on horrifying adventures. One of them just happens to be better at hiding it and preferred by the creators of the show, so he's deemed a protagonist.

Now, with Percy, his last design he just looked to depressed looking and all that, I wanted to depict more of a happier look, he's still a coward and all that, I also wanted to give him more raggy clothes due to being a pirate and I feel like it would've fitted him more 🤗

Laz

Now, my bby gorl, I wanted to get rid of the abyssian look due to being more used to her always having more of a human look even though she isn't human at all. When rereading the magic powers, I got an idea for dark magic holders, which Laz is one. Due to the shadowling things, I thought it'd be cool that dark magic holders are like shadow people but i also wanted to include animal characteristics to the shadow people but they have human forms(also when I thought this idea I told my boyfriend to get his pov on my idea and he said it was cool so I went with it, hopefully y'all like the idea 🥲) and I feel like the shadow people would come from Abyssal Kingdom, due to it being the land with no colors and it just makes some sense to me. But with Laz's design, I gave her the shadow person look due to always making her look exactly like her mother and the name she goes by to hide her identity, which is Shadow Killer.

Hopefully, my ideas make sense. My ideas are always wacky, perks of adhd. Anyways, have a good day or night!!

Episode 3: Love and Hate

As promised, I added Calvery, Dr. Heartfelt, Ms. Laughingstock, Sunny, Hoody Hans, and ManBearPig.

ROMANCE

We have our first crack ship of the game!

Of course, I helped this poor lovestruck fool and gave him advice on how to woo Sunny using his best assets.

The man can hit those high notes.

Admittedly, I'm not sure how this will work out long-term seeing that they have opposite personalities (Skin-Taker is outgoing and Sunny is independent) and there are (unverified) claims in the TL community that opposite personalities don't make good couples, but I don't know. You can really never know what'll happen in this game. In any case, they currently seem very happy together.

FRIENDSHIP

Percy wanted to "introduce" Poppy and Milo, but for some reason, they were deeply confused by each other, so they didn't become friends that time.

Milo met up with Poppy again later, so they did eventually end up making friends.

Janice and Calvery are best friends?? I have no idea when this happened.

Percy and Skin-Taker had a MASSIVE fight. What it was about, I have no idea.

Thankfully, Janice intervened, and they made up.

Poppy told me that he and Percy don't seem to be getting along that well. I told him that his and Percy's friendship was nothing special, and (surprisingly to me) he said that he wondered if there was a way for them to become closer, so I have hope for them.

Skin-Taker tried to make friends with Milo, but they didn't really hit it off. He asked me later if I thought he and Milo would make good friends, and I told him that their relationship wouldn't be anything special. (I did this for Milo's safety.)

I predict ManBearPig and Hans will become best friends. They've been each other's only friends for quite a while (two people tried to make friends with MBP and failed, and nobody has even bothered trying to make friends with Hans), and I always see them hanging out together.

They're my broTP.

EVERYTHING ELSE

Basically everything is open now that I've accomplished most milestones in this game (add 10 Miis, solve a decent amount of problems, have a decent mix of males and females, have someone confess their love).

Also, more rankings on the rankings board have been unlocked.

Orange is the popularity ranking (which is based on how many friends a Mii has), and green is the pampered ranking (which is based on how much attention I give a Mii). (Percy, Skin-Taker, and Horace are at the top because they're the ones always asking me to buy them shit--)

Oh! And another thing that has been unlocked is Quirky Questions!

What is it with people asking me for grits?? Janice asked me for grits too last episode. Is CandleCove Island in the south???

On the topic of food, Skin-Taker seems to have a problem with candy.

I feel like Milo is turning into a finance bro. I gave him this snazzy jacket, and he's always talking into this cell phone I gave him, and one time he asked me to look into his head (this a normal Tomodachi Life occurrence btw), and he was thinking about graphs??

(Oh, he also asked me for hair dye btw, that's why his hair is green.)

Speaking of looking into people's heads, Calvery was pondering a cactus (?), and Ms. Laughingstock had no thoughts, head empty.

Also, short announcement: I left out a lot of less-interesting stuff relating to friendships and food, clothing, etc. that I give the Miis just because the huge blocks of text are kind of unsightly (and they're HUGE blocks of text now that I have so many Miis), so I'll start recording that information in separate logs. Also, like last time, bonus footage will be its own post, and that's probably going to be the usual for this series.

Anyway! Next episode, Sea-Dog, Salty Jojo, Banana King, Phillip Fly, Joe Shortlegs, and Susan Siren will join in on the drama. See you then!
