Just to clarify, this appears to be incorrect information from The Race. Alan Permane confirmed both cars ran the new floor in FP2, and in Daniel's post-FP2 interview he explained the issues he had with the car in the session were down to some setup changes made with the hope of maximising grip, albeit unsuccessfully.

According to The Race, Yuki has taken over the new floor for FP2 that Daniel ran in FP1.

Hopefully theres more in the future! OWard thrilled by F1 weekend debut for McLaren despite FP1 curveballs
Pato O’Ward expressed his gratitude to McLaren after the IndyCar racer made his official F1 debut during practice for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – an experience that left him wanting more. O’Ward took over Lando Norris’s MCL36 for the opening one-hour session at the Yas Marina Circuit, in which he completed 22 laps en route to 18th position, ahead of fellow FP1 stand-ins Jack Doohan (Alpine) and Felipe Drugovich (Aston Martin) – the latter also debuting. While his session was initially delayed by technical gremlins – the Mexican being told to return to the pits in second gear on his out-lap – O’Ward still managed to rack up some valuable running in McLaren’s 2022-spec car, having previously driven their 2021 challenger on several occasions. READ MORE: Hamilton leads Mercedes 1-2 in first practice at Yas Marina as a host of youngsters get their chance to shine “It was really good. Our run plan got cut a little bit short with the issues we had in the beginning but no, it was a lot of fun,” said O’Ward, who races for the Arrow McLaren SP team in IndyCar. “[I was] quite surprised with, I guess, how little of a change I felt from last year’s car; I know the changes are significant, but I was expecting to feel a little bit more of a difference. The car still feels so quick compared to, honestly, anything else in the world.” ‘I’ll be in Zak’s ear!’ – O’Ward keen for another taste of F1 after FP1 debut with McLaren He added: “I would love a bit more of a smoother FP1, you know. I feel like once you get the first one out of the way, you know what to expect a little bit more, and I think just in the beginning it was a lot of things going on because a lot of unexpected kind of curveballs got thrown at us a little bit. “But it was good. I experimented with different lines and I’m sure you guys saw on the broadcast a few moments there, and it was just some good fun trying to exploit everything I could from the car.” O’Ward went on to explain that he will be pushing McLaren team chiefs Zak Brown and Andres Seidl for some more F1 running going forward, should there be any suitable gaps in the calendar before he returns to action in IndyCar next year. READ MORE: Verstappen leads Russell and Leclerc during twilight second practice in Abu Dhabi O'Ward admitted to having a few moments during his F1 weekend debut “You can definitely count that I’ll be in Zak’s ear, maybe Andreas a little bit – ‘Hey, when can I get in the car again?’ – but it’s hard to tell, because it kind of all moulds together once my season is finishing in IndyCar,” he said. “It’s such a compressed [season] from May... to September – it’s non-stop. So I don’t know what to tell you; it’d be fantastic to get some running in before the IndyCar season, but I think it’s all up to the big bosses, you know.” via Formula 1 News https://www.formula1.com

A request for Lily bringing you to a race to cheer her up after a bad breakup and playing a little Cupid with Charles or Carlos ??
Stupid Cupid
thank you for requesting this! hopefully I did it justice :)
“Lily, I don't want to go to the race! He’s going to be there and think I’m stalking him”, you groaned. It had been two weeks since your boyfriend, well ex-boyfriend Matt, dumped you. He was a mechanic for Williams who had been introduced to you by your best friend Lily.
“Oh y/n don’t be so dramatic! You’re going to put on your hottest outfit and show him what he’s missing, okay!” she said as she threw you the best form fitting jeans money could buy. Unknown to you she had an ulterior motive. Lily felt bad that she and Alex had introduced you to Matt and they needed to make up for it. Alex had heard through the grapevine that the Charles Leclerc had seen you at a party and mentioned to Alex he thought you were cute. So what better person to match you up with. The plan was to somehow get you two alone but how… that would be difficult.
You and Lily walked into the paddock, your eyes darting back and forth looking out for your ex. “Lily I feel nauseous, I don’t want to run into him!” you cried grabbing her hand.
“Y/n don’t worry! We’re not hanging out in the Williams garage today, I’ve got passes to the Ferrari garage”, she sing-songed. A huge smile appeared on your face. How lucky to be in the presence of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.
“Someone likes that idea..” Lily joked seeing your big smile. She texted Alex that the plan was a go. It was time to get Charles in place.
You both entered the Ferrari building and noticed Alex was randomly in the building. “What’s he doing here?” you questioned.
“Uh not sure, let’s go find out!” Lily said as she dragged you towards him. That’s when you noticed he was talking to Charles. You felt your face go hot. As you both walked up to them, Alex started to introduce you but then like a ghost Charles disappeared.
“What the-” Alex said shocked, turning every which way looking for Charles. Then he spotted him, he got snatched by his PR person for an interview. “Sorry y/n” Alex said defeated.
“Haha no worries, I’m not important enough for him to talk to”, you joked. You linked your arm with Lily and walked to your standing area. Lily turned and gave Alex a mad look. Plan A failed, time for Plan B.
You watched as they went through FP1. You felt like you and Charles kept making eye contact but maybe your head was playing tricks on you. If you hadn't known better you could’ve sworn he kept smiling at you too.
“Come on y/n, let’s go find a table to have lunch. Alex said he’d join us later with some friends”, Lily explained. You both settle into a table waiting for your guests.
“Hey man!” Alex said as he patted Charles on the back. “Thanks for joining our lunch!”. Your eyes nearly pop out of your head as you see who the special friend was. “You know Lily, and this right here is our dear friend y/n”.
Charles smiles and reaches for your hand. “Nice to meet you y/n”, he grins. You shake his hand grimmacing at how sweaty your palm was.
“N-Nice to meet you too. You did great out there!”, you stammered a bit. The conversation started slow but the more you all talked the better it got. Almost as if Lily and Alex weren’t there and they got the hint. Lily texted Alex that it was time to dip.
“Oh well me and Lily have to uh- we have to leave!” Alex stupidly explained. You and Charles looked at them with confusion and you so more with panic. They couldn’t leave you alone, not with him! Lily gave you a thumbs up and mouthed ‘You got this!’ as they both ran away.
Now without the presence of your friends it started to get… awkward and silent. Funnily, Alex and Lily had actually hid behind some bushes watching.
“Alex, we left too early, it looks bad now!” Lily cried.
“Don’t you worry, I’ve got something to break the ice” Alex slyly says as grabs a tennis ball from his pocket.
“What the hell is that for?”, she sternly says.
“Well I don’t have a bow and arrow, so I have to improvise” he giggles. They watch as you and Charles sit there both trying to find something to say. When all of a sudden a tennis ball goes flying and hits your drink glass shattering it to the floor.
You both jump out of your seats and look around for where it came from. You look at him and fall over laughing. “I think the universe is trying to tell us something” you wheeze.
“I think the universe is telling us to get out of here” Charles smiles. You give him a confused look. “Let me take you out to lunch in town, somewhere better”, he says confidently.
“Oh!” you grin feeling your cheeks blush. “I would love that”. He grabs your hand and starts to lead you to the parking lot.
Lily and Alex jump from behind the bush and silently cheer. “You are the stupidest cupid Alex Albon”, Lily laughs at her boyfriend.
“Hey! It worked though, look at them… a perfect pair”, he giggles.
You and Charles walked hand in hand down the paddock towards his car. Just then the one person you had avoided all day walks past you. Matt does a double take as his mouth falls open. Turning to meet his gaze you give him a wink and snuggle more into Charles’s side.
Hopefully this match made by cupid turns out better!

Wasn’t gonna make a rant post about this but I’ve seen one too many hate comments to not:
Kimi Antonelli crashed George Russell’s car on his formula one debut in FP1 Monza GP 2024. Yes this crash highlighted his inexperience. No this does not directly mean he’s not good enough for the merc seat next year or overhyped or rushed too quickly.
The crash itself shows that Kimi is willing to push himself to his limits (which according to the limited data from fp1 is incredibly fast). Sure he doesn’t always know his limits but an occasional crash is part of the learning curve. Most of that learning will come from literally getting to know a formula one car the other part of that learning curve will also be finding his confidence.
He and Max Verstappen are two different drivers! I’m the first person to say there are absolutely some similarities between the two— both young talents, both seemingly willing to drive to the edge. Let’s remember that max also needed time to develop his raw talent. Max crashed a LOT. But they have different driving styles, different paths to f1 and most importantly are different human beings!
team Merc/toto absolutely knows that they’ve rushed Kimi. They had “no” choice. They have a HUGE seat to fill since Lewis is moving to Ferrari. That being said, they know Kimi is gonna take time to develop his skills. If they wanted a seasoned driver in the seat right away, they would have signed a season driver (Carlos is the first to come to mind). They have George who is a seasoned driver and they also want to plan for the future.
Putting Kimi into the car in 2025 gives him a year to gain experience and develop his talent and then hopefully be ready to challenge in 2026 when the new regulations come in. They’re not expecting him to win the WDC in 2025. Their car isn’t even good enough for a WDC with Lewis freaking Hamilton rn. Merc has thought this out for both today AND tomorrow.
So yes. Kimi is gonna crash. But yes he has talent. Only time will tell if he’s gonna be a GOAT one day, but he’s gotta start eventually, and merc has made their choice. Personally I’m so excited to watch his debut in f1 and his growth through it!

Hopefully, Kevin will get better soon. Also, the important thing about this is that Oliver will be standing in for FP1, Sprint Qualifying, and Sprint Race. If Kevin feels better on Saturday, he can still drive in the Grand Prix Qualifying. Then Oliver is still considered a "rookie." That would benefit Oliver because he would still be eligible for the Abu Dhabi rookie test at the end of the year. A driver qualifies as a rookie for an F1 test if they have started in no more than two Formula One Grand Prix. Sprint Races do not count. In 2024, Oliver started in two races: the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix - When Carlos Sainz had appendicitis, Oliver drove his car. At the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Oliver replaced Kevin Magnussen for the weekend because Kevin had a one-race ban. However, if Kevin isn't feeling better in time for qualification on Saturday and Oliver has to step in, then Oliver will be required to drive in the grand prix.

I know I shouldn’t be too harsh on Kimi considering he is literally 18 but his crash in fp1 literally proves that he is not ready for f1. Putting his age aside, he has just jumped from f4 to f2 which is already such a risky jump with a whole tier of junior motorsport gone. To be in f1 and a top team that has a car with winning potential (hopefully…) within 2 season of being in f4 is unprecedented. Mick or even Fred Vesti is a better choice than Kimi. Toto will be nuts if he actually signs this kid. If he made George, who came through and won every single tier of junior formula back to back at the back of the grid in a slow af Williams for 3 years, it is unreasonable to dump Kimi straight into Merc. This is nothing against Kimi, I think he is a great kid with huge potential but talent vs having the junior experience and exposure to back that talent are very different things. I don’t want Toto to f up his career and mental health by fast tracking him into an f1 seat.

I have a few thoughts on it.
1. It was another poor qualification from Charles. And we can’t really blame him for that. He does miracles here and there, but he is a human, not the machine. And considering that he didn’t participate FP1, his car was crashed, FP2 was for Pirelli and FP3 was about finding right set up - P4 is not this bad. But it’s always bad when Sainz is in front.
2. He used his opportunities brilliantly and took that P2
3. Ferrari totally mismanaged this race. Again. And there are two points here:
- Ferrari management doesn’t believe that their drivers can keep it clean if they are allowed to fight. Ferrari dgaf about WDC, it always has been like this. So in no universe they would allow their drivers to risk taking each other out when they are in the real fight for WCC. And it shouldn’t be personally about Charles, you know. They just have to work with what they have.
- We all know that it’s always car 16, but they continued with lico the whole race even when Norris was gaining. Even when Charles was already P3. There might be something really concerning that nor we nor Charles see. And as a driver you can’t just ignore such messages. It’s Mexico, Ferrari cars have always been overheating here. And well again it’s better risk P2 and get P3 than get mechanical DNF.
But I guess if something of this was the point - they should have made it clear for Charles, not feeding him with “lico it’s important, lico”
4. Fuck Liam, you can go to where you came from. Fuck Lance.
5. Thanks to Charles for saving the car, it was a really scary moment, but it was his own creation.
6. Thanks to Charles for the FL, the point loss wasn’t that bad at the end.
7. It was a great weekend from Carlos, but this crying man won’t make me like him even if he is doing great for WCC. 4 more races and we will be free.
Summary: I wouldn’t say that Ferrari sacrificed Charles to gift Carlos (hopefully) last win in his career. But I would say that Ferrari could potentially sacrificed Charles for maximising points (no matter was it about killing each other in a fight or mechanical problems). This weekend didn’t went well for Charles from the very beginning. And I would take P3 + FL and 41 WCC points for a bad weekend. I actually wish all bad weekends were like this, you know.
P.S. i’m pissed, because I cannot not be, but rationally there is nothing to really lose shit over.

colapinto to replace sargeant is... a decision. i understand the need to drop logan. i think he got absolutely fucked over by williams -- the chassis Debacle, the fact his car was miles behind albon's for 7 or 8 races, the car being overweight, whatever toxicity's been happening offscreen -- but he's not pulling that shitbox where albon is. i get it.
williams is looking to maximise results from their zandvoort upgrade package. they've stated that f1 is a long term project for them -- they're looking past 2025 and into the future. any results they can get from these upgrades will inform the car's trajectory for next year. they need someone who can not crash it & drag it up hopefully into the points.
except i'm not sure colapinto will be able to do much better. this is his rookie year in f2. he's performing, but not spectacularly. he has 1 sprint win under his belt. he's done 1 fp1 session and to my knowledge no f1 private testing. i get wanting to get the most out of this season they can, but is colapinto the right choice?
replacing a williams academy driver who was brought up too early by bringing a williams academy driver too early is... certainly a thought process. i think if nothing else, this saving-face decision shows exactly what kind of team williams are -- not one with promise in formula 1.

A good start to the weekend for Daniel, solid running on both the mediums in FP1 and softs in FP2. Still with some work to do in the middle sector, particularly with combating understeer through turns 6/7. Also Daniel's long run seemed to have unusually high deg (esp given how good he's been on tyre wear this season), so hopefully something the team will be able to rectify for Sunday!
Don't really think Yuki got much representative running so hard to make any inferences on comparisons or the upgrades yet - although Pierre did caveat that his mega sector one was down to to a double tow coming out of the second corner. Hopefully there's more performance to come with the new upgrades, as they figure them out and find a good setup.
