HELP maybe this is influenced by how I'm writing this, or maybe it was supposed to be gleaned from canon and I just. Haven't fully thought about it til now. Haven't Deeply analyzed it beyond the blaring alarm bells that go off when reading this. But. Alfonse's,

This isn't him doubling down. This is him BACKTRACKING. This is him going, "oh fuck I think maybe I came on a little too strong maybe I was a bit too vulnerable and that's really scary. How do I fix this" and he's running through all the dialogue options in his head like Okay. Play it Cool. Keep it Casual. Proclaim your undying loyalty and devotion to your Trusted Partner (person he just told in the beginning of this conversation that he didn't intend to become friends with) by making yourself a blade and shield for them. Well, this was annoying. She could see from a distance the place she needed to go but alas an entire estate had taken over the land since she had last been here. Figures. Humans loved to weasel into all the pretty places.

Fortunately (or not), Mortem was not without manners. Usually. She stood before the front door and dusted off her simple black dress, clearly away and dust that may have gotten onto it from walking alongside the road for a good while. Only once she had righted herself did she finally knock upon the door, a passive smile having settled upon her lips as she waited.

I'm afraid I can't take credit for either theory, though I can't actually recall who/where I first saw the theories pop up. I do have some thoughts to add to this though if that's okay.

In light of volume 9 and the epilogue, I have been leaning more towards the time related semblance though more than the astral projection one.

The astral projection semblance theory is mainly based on the ties to Oscar's allusion to the Little Prince, of seperating himself from his body to go back home, and how unlocking such a semblance might help Oscar free himself from the effects of the merge and to remain his own person. However, during V9 I realised how much the whole way ascension is described in the Ever After is on par with this idea already, how the Little Prince and the Snake describe how they will leave their body as an empty shell behind to go back home, even if it looks like they've died.

"I can carry you farther than any ship could take you," said the snake. He twined himself around the little prince's ankle, like a golden bracelet. "Whomever I touch, I send back to the earth from whence he came," the snake spoke again. "But you are innocent and true, and you come from a star . . ."

"It'll look as if I'm dead and that won't be true, this body is simply an empty shell, I can't take it with me"

Coupled with the fact that ascension is meant to help you you leave the old shell of self behind to grow into the you that you want to be is pretty much... what Oscar says he wants in V8:

"I started to feel like... me. Not the same me I was before all of this but, the me I always wanted to be."

Blake: This is them, isn’t it? They’re back.

Weiss: It’s just like they said. They came back from the Tree, better.

Yang: No flood or fire will ever hurt them again.

Jaune: I’m trying so hard to save them... I stopped them from becoming what they needed to be.

Alyx: Maybe it’s time for a change, to be the kind of man you always wanted to be.

...Which initially I thought was foiling between Ruby and Oscar, one not wanting to be themselves anymore given the choice of being anyone, the other struggling to be the person they want to be when being forced to merge with someone else. Which it still is, but after the end of RWBY Beyond Ep 3 where Somewhat sees someone they recognise emerging from a portal that suddenly appears (that looks like the ones that Ambrosious created/the one that connected Remnant to the Ever After) in an episode that also happens to be narrated by Ruby herself... I have to wonder.

And of course it could just be Ruby deciding to visit her friend way in the future after the events of the show, but given that all the other RWBY Beyond episodes foreshadow/set up what's to come next, with the Summer maiden, Oscar struggling with the merge, Jaune dealing with the aftermath of being the Rusted Knight, Ruby being seen as "the girl who sent the message", Yang assuring Ruby they won't let her carry her burdens alone, Tai's absence, etc. I can't help but think whatever the reason for their return is it has to be related to the plot. And taking Oscar to the Ever After tree in an attempt to save him is the best reason I can think of why they'd go back so soon. (... I'm not sure the Tree/Blacksmith would be capable of stopping the merge altogether and would more so assure that Oscar still remains himself after the merge happens, and helps him to accept it)

This is also just another theory lmao but if it happened then I'd see less of a reason for Oscar's semblance to be astral projection if that were the case.

Another reason of why I'm leaning towards the time semblance more is that in the V9 epilogue, Oscar is emphasising himself and the world feeling like they "never have enough time" and in V6 saying he wanted to make the most of the time he had left, which given how little both he and the world seem to have would make it all the more precious.

If we wanted to see how it could tie into his allusion to the Little Prince, there's this sentiment:

When it comes to the importance of Taming, it is about the time one has spent on the people they care about that make them unique and special more than any powers or titles do. The idea of Oscar making use of "time" and spending it to help those he cares about as a semblance would be fitting imo.

Additionally while I agree and love how all semblances tend to be tied to character's allusions, when it comes to the main cast I feel like their semblances are connected to their love interests also:

- In V4 we see Ren awaken his semblance and goes to help calm down Nora so they can hide from the Nevermore

- In V5 Jaune awakens his semblance to heal/resurrect Weiss after she is impaled by Cinder

- While Blake and Yang's semblances are already active when they meet, they are also complimentary to one another as Shadow and Light.

... So when it comes to why and what Oscar activates his semblance to do will likely relate to him trying to help Ruby. This is me just speculating but I'm personally fond of Oscar awakening a time semblance that can either stop/slow/rewind time, in order to give Ruby more time to use her Silver Eyes when she struggles to do so (we still haven't seen her use them since Penny died, so... I'm kind of expecting her to still struggle with using them when she's still overcoming her grief/loss *glances at potential second Nevermore Wedding*), so she can take the time to slow down (in contrast to her speedy semblance) to let herself feel what she's feeling to use her Silver Eyes. Idk tho, it maybe too similar to Ruby using the relic in V6 for the same purpose, but it's a theory I like all the same.

as a final final addition (and then I'll stop rambling) is how a time related semblance could potentially fit in with Oscar's sun symbolism too, because. Sundials. Can be used to tell the time. But the name implies you could turn time like a dial for you to control (kind of like gears).

Any thoughts on what Oscar’s semblance will end up being? Since Oscar’s magic has come from Ozma and is more in line with “destruction” as a contrast to Ruby’s eyes which are tied to “creation”, I’ve often thought that it would make sense for Oscar’s semblance, as a means of self-affirmation to be something that also represents creation/preservation, which would make him more like Ruby and also find his own sense of who he is as a person. After all, if Oscar/Ozma are supposed to achieve a balance by the end then he should possess elements of both, no?

That said, the most common headcanon/theory I see for Oscar’s semblance has been for him to create barriers for defense… but not only can he already do that with Ozpin’s magic, I feel as though Jaune is actually the character who is more set up to have a defensive evolution for his semblance. There was the flash of light in V1 and his “it’s like a forcefield!” line, Vine’s comment about extending his aura, the shield grenades he used in V8, and just his general tendency to leap in front of people using his shield or body to protect people.

So, to me, this would be a bit of an odd choice for Oscar’s semblance and just make the existing overlap between Jaune and Oscar’s progression as characters more confused. Do you think I have the right idea with the theming of Oscar’s semblance? Or do you think it’ll come from a different place altogether?

It is very difficult to say, cause there could really be many things that fit Oscar.

I agree about both Ruby and Oscar ending up having elements of both creation and destruction, as they are two philosophical children.

When it comes to Oscar's semblance, I think it will be worth the wait, since:

It will appear toward the end and there won't be time to slowly develop it, like Blake, Weiss or Ruby's

Ruby kind of told us so tbh, as she said when Oscar gets a semblance "everyone will be jealous" ;)

I think most semblances tie with the characters' allusions too:

Ruby is super fast cause she is Little Red Riding Hood, so she rides

Weiss's glyphs allude to the Snow Queen fairy tail, but progressively become more Snowhite-like (her summons are characters in Snow-White)

Blake's shadow is symbolic of the beast, as in jungian terms the shadow is also called inner beast

Yang's power has her become too hot, with her hair catching fire, like Goldilock

Jaune gives his aura (his spirit) to others to heal them (he makes miracles), which ties with his Jeanne d'Arc allusion (I agree with the fact he will become a barrier warrior to an extent btw)

And so on...

So, tbh the majority of ideas for Oscar's semblance seem to tie into this theme:

Some theory think his power will tie with time, as time is a recurring motif for him and Ozpin

Other theories (I think this one is @misstrashchan ) instead think he will get the ability to make an astral projection of himself, in a tie in to the Little Prince (the little prince dies, so he leaves his body behind). This could also be used to separate his own soul from Ozpin's

These are my two preferred theories, but again it is impossible to say for sure. I don't think there is much foreshadowing as to what Oscar's semblance will be, differently from Jaune's.

I am writing this post in light of recent (now proven to be false, READ THE EDIT DIPSHIT) accusations against the creator of the series that I (as a once fanartist) have made the decision to fully abandon TMC fandom altogether, this means that there will be no new artworks, no reblogs of my older works, no slight interaction with fan content from other people, NOTHING.

Which yeah, as someone who has gotten fame from it on this site (and good memories for that matter) , it fucking sucks. It sucks that the creator of a certain thing that you once loved, turned out to be a rotten, piece-of-shit person, it just sucks.

If you're here to like my posts related to it, it's up to you if you wanna stay here longer (assuming you don't support him), but if you continue to support him and everything he stands for after the callout doc came out, then GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY BLOG!!! DON'T INTERACT WITH ME, AT ALL!!! Infact, you can feel free to block me if you want to.

At the end of the day, we have to accept that a big and pretty impactful creator, who we considered as an idol to us, is very likely to become a horrible person in one way or another. It's an inevitable fate, yeah.. We've seen this before, and it will happen again in the future and there's nothing we can do besides calling then out on their behaviour and listen to the victims...

oh btw if anyone's wondering on my thoughts about the whole... Natlan thing:

yeah I'm pretty damn disappointed with hoyo for the colorism in the design here. Not to mention the localized english butchering the original names of the Natlan characters, and the only characters that seems to have a semblance of having dark skin (Iansan) not only has an ash-y tone, but also only had around 1 second of screentime. Have I mentioned that only enemies and certain NPCS get the diversity? It's there since Sumeru but man. cmon hoyo.

I won't go in further detail on this since I'm not in the position to fully judge about the representation since I'm not in the demographic that's affected by this, but as a person of color, the colorism is still very disappointing (albeit unsurprising).

I recommend everyone to voice their disappointment on their feedback forms and emails so HOPEFULLY they fix this shit.

(also out of curiosity I compared Iansan's skin color to mine and the only difference is the saturation. I barely get sunlight per day. wtf)

A couple more details:

It wouldn't be that hard for Ocelot to convince Kaz to do this. Kaz was already going to throw himself into a dangerous battle for the cause, getting capture isn't much of a stretch. I can easily picture Ocelot warning Kaz about V's potential memory issues as a way of both covering up his missing memories and convincing him to go along with this trial run under the guise of "he needs a mission to get him back into the game and your safety will motivate him."

Ocelot is fully capable of recovering Miller himself. He's fully on the inside. He could easily go in as an interrogator and rescue him. That would likely go smoother. But he doesn't, because V needs this mission to help him get "broken in" so to speak.

"A certain man gave me a job to do, two actually. The first was to get you out of that hospital. The second... was to rescue the man himself." This makes it sound like Kaz and Oce were in contact after knowing about the capture. Of course this is classic Ocelot doublespeak: he's telling the truth about Big Boss while making it sound like he's referring to Miller here, but the point still stands. Ocelot could be lying or embellishing but I think they DID talk about it. Otherwise why would Kaz be so sure about Snake coming to rescue him? This means that either they discussed the capture beforehand, that Miller was captured then somehow got directly in contact with Ocelot to arrange a rescue (probably what V is meant to believe), or they had an A and B plan and the capture was only semi-orchestrated.

How did Ocelot get the glasses? Option A: Ocelot left Cyprus to go get them. Which would be a very risky and pointless thing for him to do. Of course he would be at/heading for Cyprus while Miller was creating a distraction. Option B: Someone else had them who he secretly met up with after reaching Afghanistan. Perfectly plausible if uninteresting. Option C: Like in the novel, he takes them ahead of time and is lying about them being found at the sight of the attack. Phantom Limbs is full of Ocelot giving V little nudges and suggestions to aid his memory (reinforce the brainwashing). Presenting him with the glasses fits perfectly with that. This would require the capture to be orchestrated by at least one of them.

In relation to the above, there is a theory that this is why we see Kaz with his hair styled like it was nine years ago. That he did it intentionally to look as familiar as possible help jog BB's memory. This would require that Kaz intended to get captured. Of course realistically there's no way for his hair to stay styled under the given circumstances... but it did anyway so might as well factor it into theories.

Please keep in mind that this is strictly a personal headcanon of something that is heavily implied to be the case in-game. I’m just having fun here. Because I enjoy thinking and theorizing.

To begin, we know V escapes the hospital with Ocelot on March 11th, 1984. Before that, it takes V just over 2 and a half weeks to wake up. He has three wake-up moments prior to that.

First Awakening.

Second Awakening.

Third and Final Awakening (As well as his escape, so we can assume that this is March 11th)

After Venom escapes the hospital with Ocelot, he’s given the general rundown of what has happened with Kaz so far and what his mission is meant to be. As Ocelot calls it later his ‘warm up’ mission. Which already could imply that this wasn’t meant to be super difficult, so to speak.

Kaz knows that Venom (or as he thinks it, Big Boss) is being rescued at this time, and knows that Ocelot is going to be taking Big Boss onboard the Heiwa Maru to Afghanistan (see this tape here).

Kaz is also just enough in the ‘know’ to know that Big Boss is being held in Cyprus. As mentioned here.

A part where I don’t think Ocelot has been completely honest, is explaining to Kaz that Venom and Big Boss are two different people. That bit I believe has been withheld. It’s possible then that he told Kaz, soon after he got the infamous “V has come to” call, that Big Boss is in Cyprus, and now Kaz has a job to do: create a whole lot of ruckus at the ‘zero line’ to draw the 40th Armies attention.

As an aside, Kaz is also made aware of the ‘V has come to’ code phrase: It was given to him directly, by Zero, at some point.

This then would distract “Cipher” and give Ocelot a more clear opening for rescuing Big Boss. Kaz would-and seems to-have little issue agreeing to this.

                the thought of trekking the snowy mountain of dragonspine came to mind. there, she would usually find peace and comfort in silence. yet, it was to no surprise that she hadn't been up there for many a night now. when was the last time she visited the peak of the snow-covered mountain ? she couldn't remember well.

                the ABSENCE of someone had made that place much lonelier than she remembered.

                the lawrence heir found herself escaping to the local tavern she had frequented, retreating from the eyes of public and occupied the INNERMOST CORNER TABLE so that her being here wouldn't disrupt anyone's time. the taste of alcohol and the effect it brought seemed to quiet her troubled mind. maybe, it'd be better if she had retreated from the city during those winter celebration. she didn't belong in such atmosphere. the laughter, the blessings, a damned soul like herself should know her place.

                gloved digits came to caress over the crimson insignia she had worn over her left chest, and the organ inside ached dully. how long had it been since she had seen him ? the silence was deafening, that was why she couldn't bear seeing the empty campfire they used to share.

                but it was a voice that snapped her out of her reverie.

                a question, a greet, one that upon hearing that familiar voice alone was enough to have her heart skip a beat. the sight of a HARBINGER came into view, donned in thick traveling coat and snow-tainted boots. his attire alone spoke of the distance he had traveled, the miles he crossed from one nation to the other, the exhaustion presented in his very form, or even the SNOW clinging to his clothing was proof of where he had been, and that he had not stopped ever since —

                " tar ... taglia ... ? " even her own voice sounded unsure, as though him appearing right before her was that of a dream she had conjured up in her own mind. and she had, so many times prior. so many times that she thought this was also her own yearn playing tricks on her once again. that is, until his gloved digits found their ways to her cheek. the warmth spreading from his heated glove a reminder and a PROOF that he was real. the realization of it all made her lose her own voice for a moment, only hearing her heart pounding against her ribcage as though it was recognizing how its owner had returned.

                " i'm home, eula. "

                home, he said. not simply i'm back. him, who had literally returned to his BIRTHPLACE and his rightful home away from here. yet, he said that he was home as their eyes connected.

                they say home is where the heart is. was that why she felt like she never had a home ? not within the walls of mondstadt, not upon the freezing peak of dragonspine, not in her travels to borders and other nations. only ... only when he was here. only now that she ever felt like she belonged. in his warmth, in his touch, within his reach.

                gently, her gloved hand came to clasp over his own, pressing it tighter to his cheek and she closed her eyes momentarily, as though to reaffirm to herself that he really was here. like a child having found the person she had been searching for. quietly, she pressed her lips to the middle of his palm. a tender, yearnful kiss lingered there for a long, long time. at that very moment, she felt nothing but him.

                " welcome home, tartaglia. " and with you, i am too.

                from the DRAGONSPINE'S PEAK, one would be able to see the fireworks in the distant, coming from the city of mondstadt as the year came to a close. for many years, the KNIGHT had watched those explosive lights from various locations; up close upon the secret spot near the church, the quiet area near brightcrown canyon overseeing the cider lake behind the city itself, or even this very same snowy atmosphere she was right at this moment. as the END OF THE YEAR drew near, one chapter was ending and a new beginning was to be formed. every year, she would remind herself who she was, who she strived to be despite the others' opinion, just so that she wouldn't lose sight of herself. year after year, without fail.
