She knew she should not have left home that night. She had been warned that there were some tensions between the gangs, but Nunnally was the one to always assume things were better than they truly were. Or at least that was her way to lie to herself that she was not a part of a dirty world, illegal business and violence that was all part of her family. So, she went out. An obvious mistake. One that might turn out deadly. Stumbling across some morons from the competing gang put her probably in more danger than she thought. But then an unknown shadow came to her rescue.

A simple word – "okay" – was difficult to understand. She was lying on the pavement in the dirt with a streak of blood going down her cheek. She had hit herself when they pushed her on the wall. ( “Okay? Is he asking if I am not hurt…?) – she thought to herself.

“I…I think I am fine. But they really scared me. I…I am not sure what they wanted from me. Thank…thank you for saving me, Mr…” – she stood up still feeling dizzy. It was a dark alley, one that perhaps she should not be in, but there was enough light to see the man’s face. He was definitely s stranger, but a stranger that was bringing familiar vibes…

“Do…do we know each other?” – she asked, but Nunnally was sure it was her imagination bringing her some delusions. After all she hit her head and was bleeding. But the images would not go away…the sounds of shooting, the cries, the chase, her accidentally getting trapped in the middle of something…something she did not understand, a threat, a lie, a note, a small bunny doll, she still had it...

“I…I know who you are! I remember you…” – she suddenly screamed. But did she remember?

“I…I am sorry…” – she instantly apologized – “I am probably wrong, but are you the one that gave me a bunny doll?”

(“oh, now he’s definitely going to think I am insane.”)

sally leaned against the bar. the hum of adrenaline in her veins as she watched the people bop around the room. some of them were mouthing the words but if you looked at them just right she could swear they were listening to different songs. a silent disco. if it weren't therapy homework she wouldn't have stopped by in the first place. she glanced over, leaning over to refill her lemonade glass. "all of my best friends like to go and get fucked up," theater folk tended to be best at that. their artistic lifestyles lending itself to that sort of decompression. she brought the drink to her lips, gesturing to the crowd. "and here i am."

I found an extremely dope disability survival guide for those who are homebound, bedbound, in need of disability accommodations, or would otherwise like resources for how to manage your life as a disabled person. (Link is safe)

It has some great articles and resources and while written by people with ME/CFS, it keeps all disabilities in mind. A lot of it is specific to the USA but even if you're from somewhere else, there are many guides that can still help you. Some really good ones are:

How to live a great disabled life- A guide full of resources to make your life easier and probably the best place to start (including links to some of the below resources). Everything from applying for good quality affordable housing to getting free transportation, affordable medication, how to get enough food stamps, how to get a free phone that doesn't suck, how to find housemates and caregivers, how to be homebound, support groups and Facebook pages (including for specific illnesses), how to help with social change from home, and so many more.

Turning a "no" into a "yes"- A guide on what to say when denied for disability aid/accommodations of many types, particularly over the phone. "Never take no for an answer over the phone. If you have not been turned down in writing, you have not been turned down. Period."

How to be poor in America- A very expansive and helpful guide including things from a directory to find your nearest food bank to resources for getting free home modifications, how to get cheap or free eye and dental care, extremely cheap internet, and financial assistance with vet bills

How to be homebound- This is pretty helpful even if you're not homebound. It includes guides on how to save spoons, getting free and low cost transportation, disability resources in your area, home meals, how to have fun/keep busy while in bed, and a severe bedbound activity master list which includes a link to an audio version of the list on Soundcloud

Master List of Disability Accommodation Letters For Housing- Guides on how to request accommodations and housing as well as your rights, laws, and prewritten sample letters to help you get whatever you need. Includes information on how to request additional bedrooms, stop evictions, request meetings via phone, mail, and email if you can't in person, what you can do if a request is denied, and many other helpful guides

Special Laws to Help Domestic Violence Survivors (Vouchers & Low Income Housing)- Protections, laws, and housing rights for survivors of DV (any gender), and how to get support and protection under the VAWA laws to help you and/or loved ones receive housing and assistance

Dealing With Debt & Disability- Information to assist with debt including student loans, medical debt, how to deal with debt collectors as well as an article with a step by step guide that helped the author cut her overwhelming medical bills by 80%!

There are so many more articles, guides, and tools here that have helped a lot of people. And there are a lot of rights, resources, and protections that people don't know they have and guides that can help you manage your life as a disabled person regardless of income, energy levels, and other factors.

an ex-zionist jewish man recently went a bit viral on tiktok for sharing exactly how he sees zionism tie israel to the jewish identity and his personal experience with breaking away from it - I think it’s a really great watch.

He had his point. Nunnally could relate. She hated to be pitied, be it by a stranger or someone she knew. Being pitied was always insulting to say the least. The faint red adorned her cheeks; she was ashamed. She should have known better than approaching the stranger, who did not really ask for her attention.   

She was fighting her desire to immediately go away and leave the man alone as requested, but she also felt inclined to apologize. Leaving without a word would not be polite…? And Nunnally was a polite one. At least usually.

“I-I am sorry.” – she stuttered – “It…it was not my intention to offend you.” – she said withdrawing the hand with the paper cup full of hot coffee she was previously handing to the red-haired man – “You just looked as if you need some company, so I thought I could offer some. Especially that I ended up alone with two cups of coffee.” – she said but added no additional explanation of why she had ended up in such weird circumstances; the red nf her cheeks deepened as Nunnally thought about possible explanations to her odd words. She was the one to always say weird things. – “But you might be right that it is pretty close to being pitied. I really apologize. And I hope you’ll still have a lovely day. Despite me intruding it.” – ( “Oh, no, another not-so-clever remark!” )

“Mm?” Cornelia looks up sharply with cheeks that’re tinged the slightest bit ruddy. Hard to say if it’s from embarrassment or the heat or the rough conditions of the road. Combine it with the sparkle that returns to those blue-grey eyes, and as she snaps out of her reverie, she comes to life. She blinks once, twice; then his words finally register, and she smiles. It’s tired, but sweet. “Really? How long has it been?”

Ever curious, she is. It’ll be her downfall someday. She’s already glancing around to take in all the little details of this place. The kind of wood on the countertop, the jacket fabric her gracious host is wearing. The expression on his face, the wave of his hair, all of it. Cornelia finds it quite difficult not to care.

“Though — ” She folds her fingers together and leans forward against the counter. Her voice drops, as though in a conspiratorial whisper. “ — I think whether or not I deserve to be called a lady is a matter of some debate.” Can you kill a man and still qualify? She isn’t sure.

this is coming from the position of a student, so don't take my word as gospel, but i want to strongly encourage people to prepare for the coming years and look outward to find communities in real life. this can be big like getting involved in fundraisers or organizations or small like going to poc/queer/art social spaces and talking to people. making friends and connections will help you and others build support networks, something you will need as we enter the new term. i know talking to strangers in real life can be scary, unfamiliar, or difficult (depending on where you live especially) and it may take a lot of compromising and work –– and i don't want to condescend –– but we have to try starting now. this is about your safety and welfare, as well as the most vulnerable people's.

if leftists/progressives/minorities want to survive and beat back what's coming, we need to do our work offline too and take up space. an example of getting involved would be (if you're an artist) reaching out to fundraising organizers and making prints of your artwork to donate for raising funds.
