Guess who forgot to post the happy birthday fic for Chevalier from ao3 to tumblr on the right day.

It wasn’t until Chevalier got reminded by Clavis did he remember it was his birthday. He has never cared about his birthday before. It was like any other day, except for Clavis’s futile attempt to take him down - again. It has become an annual event at this point.

“Big brother, take this, ahaha!”

Clavis’s chuckles don’t faze him. Chevalier moves swiftly to the side to dodge Clavis’s attack. Suddenly, Rio, Belle’s attendant and loyal ‘dog’ came with a letter on a platter.

“Your highness, (y/n) asked me to deliver this letter. Please read it or you’ll break her heart~!”

There he goes acting melodramatic for Belle’s sake again. Ever since becoming Belle, (y/n) and Rio has practically been glued at the hips. Chevalier takes the letter without forgetting to dodge Clavis’s continuous attacks.

“Clavis, cut it.” Chevalier orders coldly as he starts ignoring his fool of a brother and strides towards his office. Though he does not want to admit it, he feels a hint, just a small hint of excitement inside his frozen heart, about the content of the letter that he so specially received on his birthday - November 1st.

Swinging open the door and closing it with a little excitement, Chevalier quickly gets to his desk to cut open the letter. His eyes scan through the content, he is disappointed. What a waste of time.

“Dear your highness prince Chevalier,

Belle, a.k.a (y/n) have a request to ask of you. Can I borrow some of your romance novels? Your private library offers a much wider assortment of books. If you can, please tell me in person when you have the chance. Thank you, Prince Chevalier. I wish you a warm and sunny day.

Sincerely thanks,

(y/n).”

Chevalier frowns upon reading the letter, yet he quickly realizes the abnormalities presented to him - as a genius would. The spacing between the lines was wider than usual, and the paper smells like lemon. Moreover, the last sentence stood out like a sore thumb. “Warm and sunny” - she must have meant a source of heat. Having a candle next to him, Chevalier lit it up and held the paper over the light. The true content of the letter is finally revealed in pale brown letters written by lemon juice.

“If you can read this, Chevalier, you must have figured out the secret behind the letter, and therefore means you’re interested enough in…me. Were you to wish to find out more, please come to the gazebo in the rose garden. - Belle.”

A low chuckle can be heard coming from him. Belle has gotten quite feisty, hasn’t she? And intelligent as well - being able to pinpoint and play with the genius beast‘s feelings. He is praised to be born once in a thousand years, yet he’s toyed with by a woman no less.

Chevalier crosses his legs and thinks this over for a moment - for a genius like him, there is usually little to no hesitation in every move he makes. Yet this woman - so frail and harmless - is making him hesitant. Yes, she’s right, he’s interested in her. Yes, she’s also right that he’s interested enough to mull over the thought of entertaining her request of coming over to the gazebo. What could await him there? For the first time in his life, he allowed himself to hope: maybe it’s a birthday celebration for him? What foolish thoughts. He has never celebrated birthday and never will.

….

Despite all the rational reasons telling him why he shouldn’t cave in to Belle’s request, he finds himself strolling through the stone path to the rose garden. Excitement bubbles in his heart, as much as he doesn’t want it to. The wind lightly brushes his face, making his blond fringe move. The scent of roses…so familiar - this is where they first talked properly together.

What Chevalier witnesses there surprised him. Belle is in a golden gown, waiting for him in an armchair. Mind you that golden yellow is his favorite color. The woman widens her eyes a little.

“You really came…” she mumbles. What a turn of events. So she was correct - the cold, brutal beast of Rhodolite cared enough to check her out here.

Beside her is a table with a simple birthday cake, some candles, a pot of tea and cups with stacks of books - it’s simple, but they’re all what Chevalier would have enjoyed now.

(y/n) approaches Chevalier with a small, maybe a bit smug too, grin.

“Surprise?” She asks cutely with a victorious smirk splattered on her face. Ahh, damnit, Chevalier thought, she got him good.

“Hmph. You’re quite cunning for a simpleton such as yourself.” Chevalier replies coldly while approaching Belle. “You always know how to get what you want, huh?” He says quietly as he brushes her hair behind her ear.

“What do I want? I only want to celebrate your birthday with you, your highness~” (y/n) coos, certainly amused by how he attempts to hide his contentment. “Nonetheless, I was still surprised when you came here. I was prepared to wait here for a full day, for you can come anytime, prince Chevalier.”

“Hmph, foolish.” His words were followed by a giggle from his precious Belle.

Chevalier and (y/n) together did everything that normal people did for their birthday - (y/n) sang (while Chevalier just stays quiet) and blew out the candle in Chevalier’s place (since he didn’t want to do it, saying only children believe in birthday wishes) and he also accepted those books (y/n) prepared as gifts. Being an avid reader himself, he’a quite satisfied.

When Belle’s guard is down, he approaches her like a tiger coming near its prey. He gently hugs her and pulls down the zip of her gown.

“Uhm…what are you doing, prince Chevalier?” (y/n) asks in confusion, and more apparent - embarrassment. They’re outdoors!

“Isn’t it obvious? You lured me here, simpleton. I shall teach you that…a man who is alone with the woman he wants never has pure intentions…” Chevalier replies with a dry chuckle. How could such a cunning woman be so clueless?

Chevalier helped Belle with wearing her clothes back on, though he might have to take her panties as hostage.

“Well, well, simpleton. I bet you know where you should be now. If you want to take your lovely panties back…” Chevalier leans in and bites (y/n)’s earlobe, making her turn red, before continuing “you shall do as I say tonight~ after all, did you not want to wish me a happy birthday?”

something so fucked up about Chat Noir’s whole deal is that he is in a lot of ways Adrien playing a character. Like Adrien picked up his miraculous and was told he’d be a superhero so he was like “ok, time to act like a superhero!” and he lets himself have fun w it and play up the role and let loose and kind of just allow himself to be silly and goofy and have fun and for once in his life not care about performing Perfection™.

But. But none of the other characters KNOW THAT. So everyone just sees Chat Noir and is like “look at this guy’s ego. He’s so full of himself. Surely it’d be fair to knock him down a few pegs” without being aware of how few pegs he actually HAS. He’s like the “insecure character who overcompensates in ego” trope except he’s really not doing it unironically, he’s just having a fun LARP pretending to have self worth in his off-hours but nobody else is on the same page about it being a game and he refuses to tell them. He just dramatically pouts about it and lets them laugh and pretends like he’s not internalizing it and it is almost 3 am and my brain forced me to write this instead of sleeping I’m gonna take a melatonin

It's interesting watching people add their own pizzazz or headcanons on my characters. As for its accuracy, who cares. As long as it's respectful, then it's all for fun anyway.

sometimes while i think about that while a lot of adults did not treat me very well as a kid i also get a lot of 'in hindsight this person was so good to me and i didnt even realize it until now' as an adult. today i was thinking about how the first anime convention i ever went to was when i was 10 and i asked the man working the manga cafe what manga was/what a good place to start was (because the con was very overstimulating for me and i had gotten lost) and he asked how old i was before recommending yotsuba and asking if i wanted any water or something to eat. its really simple but theres a lot of bad things that couldve happened or he could've been careless in his recommendation, but instead yotsuba has remained one of my favorite manga for years, and probably a large portion of why i continue to read manga as an adult... i think adults who try to involve kids in the world safely/kindly even in little ways make so much more of a difference than they ever really know.

Artist note: I’m so proud of this :))) I know it’s a lot of dialogue and reading, but dialogue is grueling work for me. I’m glad with the art and for the amount of pages I made in such a relatively short time span -w- page 5 was super fun to work on. A lot of blood, sweat, and hours here... :) The backgrounds were a big bore tbh, but I finished them! Yippie!
