I've done it, the dissertation has been submitted now, 7300 words done in like two or three days...I am scared I'm not gonna pass it but I'm so proud of myself for getting through a whole final uni year's worth of work in just over a month, despite not being mentally well enough to have been there at my seminars for most of the year. God I hope I pass, I want this degree under my belt so badly and I don't wanna have fucked up at the final hurdle :')

the invisible presence of kendall's daughter and shiv's unborn child vs the absence of roman's child who dropped off the face of the earth after s1 and kendall and shiv potentially trying to create a marginally better future for their children in an attempt to mend the past but the future is inevitable. there is no future for conservatives like mencken because conservativism is fundamentally anti-progress. the cycle of abuse is inevitable. there is nothing apolitical about familial betrayal.

"No kidding..." Even to him, the school had an intimidating look right now. It being very quiet, did not help, either. He nods in agreement with Yuma. "Yes... if everyone saw the same thing, then that further confirms they weren't just seeing things. I don't know if this 'thing' is doing this as some sort of sick prank, but.... exactly right; we'll put a stop to it."
"Ah, good thinking, Yuma. I imagine there won't be many lights on, so flashlights would be perfect. Plus, yeah, to preserve battery life on our phone, in case that does happen. Yeah, that was smart; navigating through this school will be much harder in the dark, after all. And even if it is, I won't allow it to lay a finger on you, Yuma. I promise to keep you safe."
As he would rather take any kind of possible hits, instead. As his senpai, Shuichi wouldn't forgive himself if Yuma got hurt. "Alright... without further ado, let's head in. We'll begin by entering the main building, just right ahead. Since we have special permission to enter the school, the doors should be unlocked." He explains while beckoning Yuma to begin walking alongside him. "According to what Usami told me, she and the others often see this 'demon' in the hallways, but even then, the school has a lot of hallways and smaller corridors... they can be in any of them and we really have no way of knowing. But what still bothers me is why your brother saw it at your house. How did they know where you live? And why just your brother, did they appear to...?"
Tumblr media
"This place is already pretty daunting, but being here at night makes it feel... eerie... I-it almost feels like we shouldn't be here..." Yuma gulps as he stares at the main gate, the incredibly large building just beyond it ominously looming over the two boys. He still wasn't used to of Hope's Peak, but he's certain he'll have a better appreciation of it the next time he comes during daylight hours.
"Y-yes," the small detective nods, agreeing with his senpai's statement, "There's no way my brother would lie about something like that. It happened earlier this month, so I thought the most likely answer is that it has to be some sort of Halloween decoration, but after hearing you say that this has been going on for a while, I started to get worried... Whatever it is, it can't go around scaring people. Everyone has dealt with it for far too long...!"
Despite his apprehension, Yuma meets Shuichi's gentle pats with a determined look. He's definitely not thrilled to be chasing after some elusive 'fiery-eyed demon', but he'll do it even if it's just to give his brother and all the others that have encountered it at least some peace of mind.
Tumblr media
"I wasn't sure just how well-lit the school is at night, so I brought us some flashlights. I-I don't want either of us wasting our phone's batteries in case we get separated and need to regroup. I-I also saved a map of the school on my phone just in case we get lost. I just hope that whatever we're looking for isn't hostile..."

Shop Fusion Collab - Splatoon 3
Hooooh boy, I have a lot to say about this one.
Let me preface this part by saying that this section would straight up not exist without the talented work of my teammate Nico. Not only did he model/rig Cordelia and the background, but it's thanks to him that I was able to learn the Blender animation pipeline. He was extremely patient with me and answered every question I had, and for that I'm extremely grateful.
For this section, I animated the shopkeeper Cordelia, from the game Dead Estate! While developing this part, I pitched the idea for a Splatoon 3 section and agreed to do the art for it regardless of what game it was paired with! That game ended up being Dead Estate, a game I had never heard of up to that point.
So, what followed was a period of deep research into the game as well as Cordelia, so I could get the best understanding of how to portray her in the Splatoon universe. First thing was first, I had to redesign her. Even for SiIvaGunner projects, humans existing within the Splatoon universe is a bit jarring, so I decided that for Cordelia's model sheet, I would try to jazz her design up to make her a better fit for this artstyle!
Tumblr media
I explored some potential species design before deciding to make her an urchin, as I felt like it'd be the coolest way to adapt her hairstyle. I made some minor changes to her outfit and passed it along to Nico for modeling!

(image from Nico's Twitter post on his contributions, def check it out)
Needless to say I was blown away with how well he adapted the design. It came out better than I could have imagined. What soon followed was me forcing myself to learn the Blender animation pipeline from scratch!
Tumblr media
It was a very interesting but invaluable process. I am a 2D animator by trade, with very little interest in expanding to 3D, but the more I was exposed to Blender, the more natural the process came to me. I was very surprised. I think the animation took me about a month in total to create, as I was balancing it with schoolwork at the time, but I'm very happy with how it came out considering my 3D experience level.
Tumblr media
Beyond the 3D animation side of things, there was also the 2D assets needed for the UI, which I recreated from scratch through editing software with the help of some gracious Splatoon modders who were willing to help me rip UI and SFX from the game. All of the unique 2D weapon icons were drawn by me, each being direct callbacks to actual weapons from Dead Estate! Eagle-eyed viewers also may have caught that I snuck in a teaser for Prince Fleaswallow's upcoming section in the top right of the UI, which required me to make a Splatoon-styled head icon for him!
Overall, this one was a blast to work on. Everyone was surprised to see it being one of the earliest sections finished for the collab. We made sure to get it locked down because we knew we were in for a labor-intensive time if we wanted it to look just right.

Write the last six (6) sentences of the fic you’re working the most on.
i love how this feels moderately threatening. hooooh boy, okay. keep in mind this is not finished and very rough, don't judge me.
You spin back to Oz and expectantly hold your hand out in front of him, opening and closing your palm a few times.
“Oh, c’mon, I know you’ve got a phone. You’re not that old.”
With a slightly perturbed sigh, he leans to the side, his hand slipping into his pocket. He retrieves the phone and holds it out to you, almost guiltily.
Hastily, you create a new contact for yourself before returning it to him.

I'll make, in the grand scheme of things, the "smallest mistake" and then spend hours dreading and hating myself for it because I could have done better.
Well, I guess it does usually need the criteria of being a social mistake of some kind, like mishandling someone being upset at me and instead of clearing things up and putting us on the same page which /ideally/ would have ended the anger immediately, I instigate and snark and only realize I should be bigger and better and kinder after I've clearly already made them scoff and walk away while muttering insults my way.
Does it matter? No, a stranger got upset and stayed upset and we'll never speak again so it'll never come up again.
Do I care?
IMMEASURABLY SO. I KNOW WHY THEY WERE HEATED, I SAW THE MISUNDERSTANDING, I COULD TELL WHERE THEIR HEART WAS IN THIS DISCUSSION AND WHY MY WORDS SEEMED TO RUN AGAINST THEM WHEN THEY WEREN'T MEANT TO, I SAW A MEANS TO DE-ESCALATE AND LEAVE US BOTH HAPPY, AND INSTEAD I PECKED AWAY AT IT FOR WHAT GAIN?
Absurd.
Dreadful even.
I suck sometimes
At least they had a really funny insult to close their part on. It'd be better (both in impact and humor) if it had more basis, like if you could reasonably infer it was a true insult and not just words put together to be insulting, but hooooh boy I'm holding onto that one because it's a sharp sickle to the right asshole, hope they don't mind me borrowing it in the future lol

What was it like for Mia going back to Garlemald and seeing it in the state it’s in? And I think she’s friends with Jullus, if I’m remembering correctly. if so, what was it like for her to see him again?
hooooh my god Ube do you know how many words I've written about this precise subject. it is literally the second-longest document in the scrivener project.
Tumblr media
maybe one day i'll actually post that part of the fic lmfao. but for now i can rant about what's in it i guess, and thank you for giving me the opportunity to :D
TL;DR: SHE DOESN'T HAVE A GREAT TIME
The whole core of Mia's personal story is realizing the evils of the imperialist, colonialist ways of her country, how she benefited from that as a citizen and how her family actively contributes to it, and how she gets the fuck out of dodge and figures out how to fight back against it. Something she didn't expect, though, is how distancing herself from where she used to live figuratively and literally let her somewhat dehumanize where she came from. It was very easy for her to convince herself once she was out that Garlemald deserved anything she brought to bear against it as a Warrior of Light, that it deserved whatever wounds the Alliance would inflict whenever it managed to fight back. It was a little easy for her to forget that she grew up next to a nice guy named Jullus and helped him babysit his siblings and had a Totally Normal Childhood Friendship with him (...albeit one built on the luxuries that can only be secured by an empire bent on conquest).
(I would like to confirm that I put together her backstory - her father being Aulus mal Asina, her growing up basically smack in the middle of the capital - before Endwalker actually came out and confirmed there literally was a district where loyal R&D engineers were awarded estates smack in the middle of the capital, and that there's a boy roughly Mia's age who lived there. If I didn't know better I'd say Jullus was hand-crafted and served to me on a silver platter to be the "childhood best friend" that helped me put the rest of that backstory together. :V)
When the contingent starts forming and all the people in charge keep affirming "we're not going in as invaders, these people are victims," it sort of slaps her across the face how much she's forgotten she grew up among real people with real depth to their lives, and seeing what the Telophoroi have done to other civilizations, she suddenly feels sort of... hollow. When they get to Garlemald and look out at the ruined capital beneath the Tower of Babil, she gets a twisting sensation in her stomach and she starts feeling sick. Her initial thought is "I wanted Garlemald to fall, but not like this" - and then she feels even worse for wishing a fate like this on people she knew. She starts having to reckon with having dehumanized Garlemald's citizenry, the bas's and cen's and aan's and even many of those above who still held no real power in their military dictatorship, as much as Garlemald decried Eorzean peoples as "savage."
Because if she had stayed, how likely is it that she would act any different from the Garleans that now hurl curses and wish death upon the Ilsabard contingent and the Warriors of Light? Not very. That's proven very decisively when her childhood best friend suddenly turns up.
When they find Jullus, she grows even more bitter, because she had started to cling to a little hope that maybe he had the same realizations she did, or maybe that he did so even better - that he didn't forget his own humanity. She's certain he had it in him, knowing how kind he was from growing up together. Finding that he's deep in the nationalistic sauce makes her feel even more wretched.
She wants to genuinely help the people she grew up with, but that's clashing with how lost in that sauce they all are. She bites her tongue when Jullus lashes out at her and calls her viator (<-oh look a small amount of foreshadowing for Zenos later being so branded :V). She doesn't rise to Quintus's bait. She just keeps moving forward, doing whatever the Ist Legion demands of the Eorzean envoys, and jumps headlong into the pool where once upon a time she and Jullus watched his siblings splash around in order to pull out the ceruleum heater. She doesn't expect Jullus to change his spots, thinking him as ruined as the city they're in the middle of...but then he starts to. That little hope starts flickering within her again, and it would make her so happy to see it realized. She doesn't miss her parents - she's long since written them off as inextricable parts of the Garlean war machine, and long since reckoned with killing her father in particular. But if her old best friend can come around...
But he continues to carry out Quintus's orders. His thumb wavers above the trigger that would seriously injure the twins that she thinks of as little siblings. She fixes him with a cold glare as he marches her and Ellie back to Camp Broken Glass. When they learn what happened to his family, she demands to know whether their sacrifice was worth Garlemald's pride. He punches her in response - Ellie has to pull them apart.
She sees her friend careening towards the precipice, and she doesn't know if she can stop him. And then the legion loses their bargaining chip, and he orders the ambush on the contingent - and she lunges at him and wrestles him to the ground. She can't take this anymore. She could easily write him - and Garlemald - off here. His neck is within her grasp. But instead she practically screams into his ear that "you're better than this!" And the force of those words put a halt to the ambush, and she goes on, furiously blaming the imperial ideals that brought them here - "those ideals don't give a damn about you and you deserve better!" That's the realization she had so many years ago, and she tries with all her might to impress it upon the friend she knew and loved.
Everything else kinda plays out as usual from the MSQ: Lucia gives Quintus the Xth Legion's message, and Quintus releases the Ist from their duty. But on the fringes of the camp, having all this thrown in his face is too much for Jullus and Mia.
Tumblr media
And Ellie awkwardly comforts them both as best she can as they sink into each other and weep for everything they've lost - though there might be the small hope that, with things the way they are now, they might be able to start patching that friendship back together.

Introducing my oc properly despite talking about it on discord very frequently, oops
(Oh BTW thank @cosmica-candy for the commision)
Lore talk under the cut, if you are interested.
Hooooh boi, this is a doozy, introducing Shineko, Lady of the Cult of the Red Crown.
She is married to Narinder and is also a God (a God of Death and Rememberence).
The basics is she is from another land, with its own pantheon, and through a message in a bottle, she and Nari became friends. They communicated back and forth until they both lost touch, due to both of them being betrayed by people close to them.
Unaware, they were sent to the same place, but distant. They can feel each other, but cannot touch each other or even see one another. They can however talked. And with Narinder, he got an idea to get them out.
That's when the Lamb came in. Through their slaying of the Bishops, they powered the crown, and the Cult. And on the day of freedom, Narinder only asked they laid down their life to complete their quest.
The lamb (dubbed Lambert) agreed and gave up their life. Their latent power unleashed was enough to break both of their prisons.
Shineko resurrected Lambert for their act of sacrifice and together they ruled the cult of the Red Crown, with the Lamb as acting Leader and Champion, and the 2 Deities as the shared God of Death.
