Remus did, indeed, take his potion tonight.
@moonysdora inspired me to recreate this meme that she made, which had me bursting out laughing. Just doodles for now, but when I get more time I have much more artwork I want to draw with Remus & Tonks, they're all I can think about right now (Click for better quality) <3

Also the Blacks do honour kill. Bellatrix kills Tonks for the family honour and she has zero remorse over murdering Sirius.
I don’t think those are great examples, because Voldemort ordered Bellatrix to kill Tonks rather than this being initiated by the Blacks (although you could always headcanon that Bella tried to kill Tonks previously by her own initiation or by other Blacks’ initiation, sometime in the 1970s after Tonks was born), and Bellatrix killing Sirius was an accident.
But I could totally believe that like, Cygnus and other family members tried to kill Andomeda and Ted for eloping. That would be a pretty textbook example of an honor killing, and we see this with Merope and Tom Sr. - Morfin and Marvolo team up to kill Merope, and Morfin hexes Tom Sr., and years later tries to attack Tom Jr. with a knife because he thought he was Tom Sr., so we can assume that if the Gaunts had enough power to murder a wealthy Muggle without being arrested, they would have.
And, I mean, there likely has been *some* social progress in between Merope’s generation vs the Black sisters’ i.e. Dumbledore banned corporal punishment at Hogwarts.
But we know Neville’s family tried to repeatedly kill him (his Uncle Algie but sanctioned by the whole family because it happens in front of them), and house elf murders are implied to be a present day practice, and someone in Walburga’s generation tried to make Muggle hunting legal, so all the murder going on doesn’t seem to have changed. And of course the Blacks/presumably other pureblood families still regularly disown family members for bringing dishonor and shame to the family, which happens in societies that practice honor killings, and I have also seen portrayals of pureblood society that still practice blood feuds.
Sirius doesn’t specifically mention his family members trying to kill him or Andromeda, but, well, Harry also doesn’t give specifics like Vernon trying to strangle him. Possibly Andromeda and Sirius had to hide and seek protection as best they could (i.e. behind the Potters’ wards) to stop their family from killing them. Sirius as the heir is certainly less disposable but once he made it clear he wasn’t coming back to the family, I don’t think attempted murder is entirely out of the question.
Of course, no one is obligated to write the abuse to this extreme, but I do think honor killings within pureblood society is basically canon, and is not remotely unrealistic.

Fall Decorations
Fandom: Harry Potter (fuck JKR)
Pairing: Andromeda Tonks/Ted Tonks and platonic!reader
Plot: you use your creativity to create fall inspired decorations for your friends
Notes: I don’t agree with JKR or her beliefs. Fuck her!
This was written for @flufftober 2024 for Day 5 prompt: Acorn, Chestnut, Pinecone
Flufftober 2024 Masterlist - General Masterlist

The pinecone here doesn’t have anything to do with the fic, only that they’re mentioned in the fic.
Tumblr media
You’ve always been a creative type and fall as well as Halloween inspired you. Both always have since you were little.
You ask Ted and Andromeda if you could make something for them in honour of fall. They agree and you get to work using things that remind you of fall - some of them acorns, chestnuts and acorns, and using colours that remind you of fall and of your two friends. You paint some, carve others and work on turning them into cool decorations.
When you’ve finished, you bring them over and tell them that they can choose whatever they would like.
The two of them go through and choose quite a bit of it. All three of you set to work, putting on music as you all decorate their home for fall.

I have a list of your fics that I still think about. One of them is Innocence, it's very special to me but also you captured Tonks in a way that resonated with me. It feels like a glimpse in the mirror.
All your Cho fics, especially Ariadne. I feel like Cho is yours quite honestly.
And then Stalemate. The birth of my ship 😍
Honourable mention is a specific chapter in Beyond the Veil. I've spoken to you about it and don't want to spoil anything for others. But you know which one 👀
Since Innocence is a gift for you, I am so pleased that you liked it! It also excavates a particular feeling I was going through and explores it in a way that felt meaningful for Tonks at that point in time.
Ariadne wouldn't be what it is without your help with the Greek mythology. But the actual inspiration for Ariadne is Martha Graham's choreography.
youtube
Stalemate is my only offering for vastly underrated Shigure/Mayuko ship. You can still see me figuring it out as a writer back then - its quite old, but the ship holds.
And yes I know which chapter you are talking about. <3 I am looking forward to your interpretation of that scene.

Share ten different favorite characters from ten different pieces of media in no particular order, then send this to 10 people (anon or not, your choice) 🎥🎬📺
[Let's go crazy over this 😘]
Jesus, @redfurrycat, do you want to murder me??? Choosing only TEN characters is like choosing between my children!!! :O (And significant others, but you get my meaning)
Alright, let's try... Sorry in advance to all those I forget... :/
Loki (Marvel Cinematic Universe)
I think I can say with utter honesty that Loki was the first (of many) antihero(es) I fell in love with. The complexity of this man (God, sorry darling), his backstory, the tragedy of it, while remaining true to himself and to those he deems worthy of his trust and love... It's all...*chef's kiss*. And YES, I'm talking about MCU Loki because I love him most, but I also adore Comic!Loki and NorseMythology!Loki. ;)
Tumblr media
2. Nymphadora Tonks (Wizarding World)
I could have chosen her husband (MY husband) Remus because I LOOOOOOOVE him with all my heart, but I chose Tonks instead. You've got to understand. When the fifth book came out, I was a teenager, I was awkward, different. I dyed my hair, I was clumsy, too clever for my own good, and I was a bit of a loner. All that made me feel miserable, because why couldn't I just be like everyone else? Then, in came Tonks. Who was clumsy, different, with bubblegum-coloured hair, loyal to a fault. And who was an AUROR. A BADASS WITCH. And suddenly, it became okay to be all those things. And fuck being like everyone else. <3
3. Derek Hale (Teen Wolf)
I never watched the show. Ever. But reading extensively about Derek's character and backstory made it impossible not to love him whole-heartedly. That Sourwolf deserves the WORLD. <3
Tumblr media
4. Eowyn of Rohan (Lord of the Rings)
I fell head over heels for her in the movies first, then when I read her for the first time, it was game over. Tolkien may have been parcimonious with his women characters, but Eowyn entirely surpasses any other male character in my opinion (sorry Aragorn, Faramir and Pippin, you know I love you too). She's far from the damsel in distress people would make her to be, and she's badass without being less feminine for it. <3
Tumblr media
5. Nick 'Goose' Bradshaw (Top Gun)
Do I have to explain myself, when I've got a goose tattoed on my arm in his honour? My Polaroid-taking piano-playing moustache-wearing love. <3
6. Katsumoto Moritso (The Last Samurai)
Have I mentioned how much I love that movie, yet? :P Alright, it's my favourite movie ever: whenever I need a good cry, I just watch Katsu do his thing and I'm done for the count. Ken Watanabe giving him life after battling leukemia is even more touching, don't mind me, I'm tearing up over here.
Tumblr media
7. Daniel Jackson (Stargate SG-1)
The first Nerd of my life. <3
Tumblr media
8. Wednesday Addams (The Addams Family)
Before the show took everything by storm, my Wednesday spent her days looking like a psychopath and trying to kill her brother while finding out if her uncle was her uncle or not. And when I was a little girl, all I wanted, was to be like Wednesday. XD
9. The Doctor (Doctor Who)
I may be repeating myself, but I properly learnt English while watching DW. I stumbled upon Blink one night (Weeping Angels, still the creepiest villains EVER) and got hooked, even though at the time I didn't understand half of what was being said. Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant taught me English, Matt Smith made me fall more and more in love with the show, and Peter Capaldi became MY Doctor (I love grumpy assholes, as seen above). Then, Jodie became the first female Doctor, and she wasn't weaker, she wasn't more mellow, she was the same ruthless, awkward, loving but questionable alien I'd gotten to love. AND THANK CHIBNALL FOR THAT!
Tumblr media
10. Benji Dunn (Mission: Impossible)
I couldn't not talk about MY spy movies. The ones that are so much better than any James Bond ever made, the ones that keep me on the edge of my seat and make me fall harder and harder for its characters every instalment. And Benji is by far my favourite (Simon Pegg isn't stranger to this), and if ANYTHING HAPPENS TO HIM IN MI7 TOM CRUISE GETS IT!!!
Tumblr media
I might not tag many people, but if you want to do it, do it. ;)

Career Day // Sirius Black x Herbology professor! Female reader
Tumblr media
(not my GIF, credit to the owner/creator)
(also, Billy Russo is how I imagine auror! Sirius 🥵🤤)
Genre: Fluff with comedy on the side
words: 1.5k
warnings: mentions of murder (in the joke kind of way), Sirius and Remus being annoying, marriage, talks of careers, discrimination against Hufflepuffs, kissing
Summary: It's career day in Hogwarts for fifth years, and you decide to invite your husband along with Mad Eye Moody and Tonks to talk about auror career.
A/N: So this is a completely different fic with Sirius and herbology professor! reader than the one I originally imagined when I asked you guys to help me choose a fic, but that fic would've been waaaay too long for my liking so one day I'll definitely either turn it into a series here or a full book on wattpad, because I still love that idea. Hope you guys don't mind it and still enjoy this fic!
Credit to @firefly-graphics for the divider!
Being in marriage while working as Hogwarts professor and your partner being an auror along with raising your godchild isn't the easiest thing. But seeing your godchild practically every day was one of the perks of being herbology professor at Hogwarts. Harry was a lovely child despite him causing mischief occasionally, which was expected considering half of his DNA is from one marauder and was raised by another. So when it was career day for your fifth year hufflepuffs, you decided to grab the chance and invite your husband to present aurors. Which let's be honest, might not have been the best idea, but who can blame you for wanting to see your husband, and he was an excellent auror. Of course, along with him, you invited Mad Eye Moody and Tonks. Asking different friends who were in different careers to come and have a small speech about their careers to your house. After most of them were done with their careers, you decided to talk to them about the process of being a professor since the aurors were late (to no one's surprise)
'' First, I would love to thank all of you for coming and helping the hufflepuffs hopefully decide on their future careers. So now it's my turn to speak about becoming a professor one day. The most important thing is, you have to be one hundred percent sure this is something you want to do. While yes, it can be easy to change career, being a professor is something you must love. Like I do. Since the moment I was able to think about my future, I saw myself either being a healer or herbology professor. Those two things were something I adored...'' as you were speaking, you could see three figures quietly coming in, and you immediately knew who it was. ''...when I was still a student I would occasionally help madam Pomfrey in the hospital wing, or if professor Sprout needed any help during class I would immediately volunteer. Just ask my husband, who just sneaked in after coming late. '' the students laughed, while Sirius only grinned while coming to your side and giving you a kiss on the cheek. '' It's true. Since the moment I met her, she only spoke about how hard it's going to be to decide what she wants to do between those two things. Whenever one of my pranks along with my best mate's would go wrong, she would talk our head off while helping us heal if were injured. When were doing bad in herbology she would help us with no exception. '' he smiled while remembering how without any hesitation you would help the marauders after full moon after Sirius convinced Remus to trust you with his secret. '' To become a professor, whether it's Herbology or Defence against the dark arts or any other, you need Outstanding or Exceeds Expectations O.W.L.'S in that particular class you're interested in teaching, along with other ones you choose. Same with your NEWTS, but more on that in your 7th year. The most important thing is your dedication to how much you want to do this. I would be honoured to work one day by any of you by my side. Now I'll let the wonderful aurors speak about how to become one of them. The podium is yours. '' pecking Sirius' lips before moving to the side and letting Tonks and Mad Eye Moody join him. They spoke about things they've witnessed in the first war (mostly Mad Eye, with Sirius joining him occasionally). Tonks spoke about her training and how she herself was a Hufflepuff and how people used to think she's too soft for her to be auror only for her to prove them wrong. About what O.W.L's they took, and just encouraging them to think really good before deciding to join aurors. Soon after that, she let her kids go to their next classes before going to her office along with Sirius.
Tumblr media
As soon as she was back in private with her husband, she pulled him into a tight hug. Despite them living in Hogsmeade during the school year, Sirius often was gone for days or weeks on auror missions, so forgive her for missing her husband. '' I'm glad you still have your head on your shoulders.'' she spoke quietly while still hugging her husband, making him chuckle. '' Well I am not sure what you think of me love, but I am one of the best aurors out there. My head will always be on my shoulders. '' he pulled away slightly from her, just enough to kiss her on the forehead before bringing her into the hug again. It was two minutes of silence before someone knocked on the door of her office and barged in. She immediately knew who it was and smirked. '' It seems I am not the only one who missed you. '' as she pulled away from Sirius, she looked at her godchild. '' Can I help you, Pottah? '' she asks, imitating how Draco calls Harry, making Sirius laugh while Harry rolled his eyes. '' Sometimes I really hate you working here at Hogwarts. Isn't it enough you two bother me always at home during summer? '' he asks while grinning. Sirius dramatically gasps before pulling Harry into a hug tightly, making Harry grumble. '' Sirius, you're making it really hard to breathe. I knew I should've gone to Remus instead of coming here to see you. '' you grin, remembering your best friend who is also probably just waiting to come and see Sirius again. '' You're being really hurtful Harold, how dare you say we bother you during summer? We're the best godparents you could've asked for! '' you nod, agreeing with him. '' He's right. And what do you mean you hate me working here? I am literally only seeing you if you come to me or if you're having herbology that day and during meals. I am grateful Sirius is not also working here. Having the child of one marauder and one of the marauders teaching here is already giving me enough headache, praying school doesn't crumble down to the grounds with you two. '' Harry and Sirius look at each other before grinning. '' You've just given me the greatest idea, my love. You know I played quidditch during our school years, I was thinking of applying to become quidditch coach. '' Your eyes widened, Harry and Sirius laughing at your reaction, just as Remus walked in your office with a slight knock on your door. '' Remus please convince your best friend to not apply to be quidditch coach. '' Remus only laughed as he walked over to stand by Sirius. '' Why would I? I think it's appropriate that both of Harry's godparents work at school. Don't you agree, Harry? '' Harry nodded his head, making you look at him bewildered. '' Two minutes ago you complained about me working here, and now you want Padfoot here, your godfather, Sirius Black to be your quidditch coach? I swear to Merlin I'm about to have a stroke. '' Sirius scoffed. '' And you say I'm the dramatic one. Save yourself from having a stroke, my love, I was just taking the piss. I'm content with being auror. '' rolling your eyes, you pulled your godchild into a short hug before placing a kiss onto his head even though he was already almost taller than you. '' I love you and go to your class, I don't want to hear from Snape about how you're late again because of me. You don't need to witness me killing your godfather and professor. I'll see you at the dinner tonight. '' Harry kissed your cheek as he laughed at your comment, giving Remus and Sirius a hug before rushing out to the dungeons. As he left, you just glared at your husband and best friend while they were just grinning like kids. '' You two annoy me. I was being content with only dealing with one of you at the time. '' they laughed before they both hugged you. Sirius kept his arms around your waist as Remus told you that he needs to go back to his class. Soon it was only you and Sirius alone again. Sighing, you relaxed in your husband's arms as he placed gentle kisses around your face. '' You're coming home tonight or staying here? I want to sleep next to you. '' Turning in his embrace, you put your
hands around his neck, resting your forehead against his. '' Home. I just need a relaxing night with you after you being gone for a week. '' he only nodded before kissing you gently on the lips. Just holding him close to you felt right. '' I'll see you home tonight. Want me to cook dinner for us, or will you bring something from the kitchen's? '' Pulling him closer and nestling your head into the crook of his neck, you mumble how you'll just bring home something from the kitchens. He hummed, placing one last kiss to your lips before parting for you and leaving to go back to home. You were truly the happiest whenever you were with your family.

Bad news
Warning : minor character death, mention of death, angst, comfort and fluff.
"Honey, I'm home!" Harry said, putting his coat on the hanger and his bag on the table.
"I'm in the kitchen!" Draco shouted from the room next to him.
Harry was tired. His work at the Ministry was hard this summer. Paper work mostly, hopefully, but it was always tiresome.
When he came into the kitchen, he saw at Draco's body language that something was wrong. His boyfriend was unseasy, cooking something, but his hands were trembling, ready to catch anything if it were to fall on the ground. And he didn't look at Harry right away with his beautiful smile. Like he normally did.
Harry took a better look at the kitchen, searching for the reason for Draco’s stress when, at the same time his eyes landed on his tiny dragon pet and the black letter, Draco groaned in frustration.
"Andromeda died yesterday."
The sentence was like a bomb. His stomach turned as he looked at Draco. Harry didn't know Andromeda well. She was Sirius' cousin. She was Draco's aunt. But Harry knew he had no feelings toward her. They were distant. Even after the war, they hadn’t tried to keep contact.
Harry was lost in his emotions. The witch had been a great lady. After chatting with Tonks and Sirius about her, they had met sometimes, so she could see her grandson, but Harry and Draco had taken him under their wings and she’d said she was too old to raise a child.
"When is the funeral?" he asked, sitting on the nearest chair.
"Tomorrow morning. I'll go with mom at nine in the morning," Draco answered.
"What?" Harry asked, disbelieve about the rapidity of the organisation clouding his mind. "But what about me?"
"Mum said since you have no link to the family, you can't take a day off work. And you barely knew her," Draco said softly.
"And? I knew her!" Harry fumed. "She was a good person and I laughed a lot with her and—"
Sakar, the dragon, whined as Harry's tone got louder and sadder. Both men looked at the creature crawling from the table towards Harry, trying to calm him with a hug.
"Harry," Draco put his hand on Harry's shoulder, making him look at those silver eyes, "I'm sorry, I should have sent you a message about it."
"It's not you that I'm mad at. I’m mad at your mum." Harry sighed, tears on the point of falling down "We've been together for almost eight years now and she still assumes I'm not part of the family. She still assumes that I don't want to come to honour someone that matters to them, to you."
"Do you want to come?" Draco asked, caressing Harry's cheek.
"No, she's right. I have work to do," Harry said. "But I need space tonight. It's a lot to take in. I'm not hungry anymore."
Without another word, Harry left the room, walking with heavy feet and heavy heart to their bedroom. He didn't know what strange feeling he had right now. Sadness, anger, confusion, even anxiety.
He opened the door to see Teddy sleeping on their bed. The nine-year-old had wavy black hair and Harry knew it was for her. For his granny.
Harry sobbed silently, wishingthat maybe, one day, he would have a real family. A family of his own, that would want him.
"Dad?" Teddy's sleepy voice asked. "Papa said granny was gone. I wanted to make sure you were okay. So I waited for you."
Harry knew, at that precise moment that he already had that family.
"Shhh, I'm okay. I'm here for you." Harry took the boy in his arms as he sat on the mattress.
"Papa said you won't come tomorrow. That you were busy at work."
"That's right. Dad has a lot of work."
"Do you want me to come with you? So you won't be alone?"
Harry smiled fondly.
"Do you want to stay with me or say goodbye to granny Andromeda?"
"I don't know," Teddy said, putting his hand under his chin like Draco did when he was thinking hard.
"I'm sure Papa needs you," Harry whispered, knowing fully that his boyfriend was behind the door. "You know how he is. He's not showing it but he will need you as support."
"You're right," Teddy gasped in realisation. "I'll say goodbye for you then. I'm sure she would have liked you to be there."
"Thank you, Teddy. I appreciate that."
They stayed like that, hugging on the edge of the bed until Teddy went to sleep again. Draco entered the room silently and Harry watched his boyfriend put a plate of food on the nightstand.
"You need to eat," he said, concerned.
"I love you, Draco."
Draco’s lips trembled in emotion. Harry took his hand and squeezed it. No other word was said that night.

hey girl hey!!!! just finished what’s out of stranger things s4 and every time maya hawke was on screen all i could think ab was ethel haha. anyways, i would like to know a few things about CoK!!!!! first, i want to know which characters (aside from artie oc) will be in the spotlight this year. also, what will be happening in terms of character relationships (mostly i just wanna know if kimchi will become canon but any other dating or friendship drama is welcome too). finally, is there anything u would like to talk ab story wise before y6 drops, maybe a dive into artemis or jacob or someone else’s brain, a specific scene u want to address, or some clever foreshadowing u want to drop? muchas gracias mi amiga!!!!!! ;)
Tumblr media
Omg, I’m only halfway through so SAY NOTHING. However, Maya Hawke is a delight (so many Ethel vibes!) and the Kate Bush soundtrack is giving me LIFE.
Tumblr media
God I love Kate Bush. Anyway, I digress…
Firstly, which characters will be getting some time in the spotlight? The first answer to this question has to be everyone’s favourite lupine cinnamon bun, Chiara Lobosca. Her storyline just fits so well into year six. Other honourable mentions go to the rest of the Hufflesquad, as I always try and give Artemis’ closest friends the most agency of their own in the story - this year, Tonks has some academic issues and Penny some personal ones - and (surprise surprise) Charlie Weasley. With Bill having graduated, Charlie has a lot of responsibility thrown at him in year six, and there is a lot of focus on him trying to come to terms with that.
That brings me nicely on to question two: What will be happening in terms of personal relationships? Poor Charlie goes through it in year six, and his relationship with Artemis in particular really evolves over the course of the story. Bill’s graduation also affects his relationship with Penny, and the two Haywood sisters have a lot of tension this year, as well. In terms of dating drama, there will be a Valentine’s Day ball, which paces the way for a few burgeoning relationships, crushes, and - how to say it? - bad decisions.
In terms of extra BTS information to drop… I would say that there’s a few key scenes that I really wanted to include in this story before I’d even started writing it. Usually, these are the softer, more emotionally reflective scenes, but a couple are a little angsty. I can think of seven of these off the top of my head, involving a campfire, a frozen clock, a wooden bridge, a magical mirror, a wolf, a bunch of lilies, and a Patronus. The first of these is in the very first chapter, so you won’t have to wait very long - just over 12 hours now…!

Beneath The Skin
Tumblr media
Relationship: Remus Lupin x OFC
Summary: This is the story of one young woman's struggle with pain, inner pain, mental pain, physical pain, psychological pain, every kind of pain you can imagine. Remus Lupin understands pain, he wants her to understand that it doesn't mean you can't feel anything else, he wants her to understand that pain has absolutely nothing on love.
Warnings: TRIGGER WARNING, heavy mentions of self-harm and suicidal tendencies, pain, angst, loss of parents, trust issues. 18+ Minors DNI
Chapter 36 - Epilogue
I’d been woken up early by Tonks and I hated it, much preferring to sleep in, but she was adamant that now I was old enough that I could see her most treasured possession. It was a box, plain and simple, wooden, no bigger than a large shoe box, but it was heavy. She had a tear in her eye when she gave it to me, like she was giving something away or saying goodbye to an old friend. It was only when I opened the box that I understood why.
I sat down on the bed in my small room in the small cottage belonging to Ted and Andromeda Tonks, they couldn’t afford to give me much more than their small spare room, but I loved them for giving me a home nonetheless, they didn’t have to, but they always said that it was their pleasure and their honour to have me. I never understood what that meant, but I would always nod and thank them anyway.
Tonks told me not to open it until she came back with a cup of tea for us both so that she could explain a few things. She sat down in her bright pink pyjama t-shirt and white trousers and smiled a little sadly at me.
‘If it was up to me, I would have shown you this years ago,’ she said, a lump forming in her throat. ‘But I was under strict instruction to wait until the morning of your seventeenth birthday so that when you go to Hogwarts next year, you can think on what it is you really want to do with your life.’
I frowned, opening up the small wooden box and looked down at the most beautiful thing I had ever seen in my whole life. My parents. It was a photograph of my parents holding me on the night they died.
‘2nd May 1998.’ Tonks wiped away a tear that was threatening to fall. ‘I’ll never forget that night and I’ll never forget taking that picture. We were all so scared at the time, but your parents… Rosie was my best friend and Remus was so perfect for her. When they had you, it was like everything felt right with the world… and then the idiots asked me to be godmother and I knew it was all downhill from there.’ Tonks half laughed, prompting me to do the same.
My mother was so beautiful, the same green eyes and smattering of freckles that I had, but unlike her, my hair was a sandy colour that I’d always been told came from my father who was handsome enough, but when he looked at me and my mother with that loving smile, he was as perfect as her.
‘Amara,’ Tonks said, I looked up at her eyes now filling entirely with water. ‘I am so sorry that you never got the chance to know them, but this box is everything they left for you that was important. They both wrote you a letter,’ Tonks pulled out two envelopes addressed to me. ‘I think in some way, despite them always saying that everything would be okay, they knew the war would be the end for them. They left a letter for me as well with the instructions to give you this box on your seventeenth birthday, to make sure that Remus’s books got published so that you always had a bit of extra cash and the one thing they made me promise was that I give you a list of their albums in the order that they should be played. No one knew music like your parents and I don’t think any of us really appreciated that until it was too late.’
I was only half listening to Tonks, I couldn’t help but stare down at my parents, to know that on their last day on earth, they smiled. They loved me.
The only real thing I had that told me what my parents were like was the stories people told me and my father’s books, which sold at a phenomenal rate the year they came out; the second one was my favourite, because he made footnotes about my mother and how they fell in love. They were small and seemed somehow irrelevant to the actual documentation of the war, which Tonks said was a publishing decision, but to me they were everything I ever had to know my parents were real. She had given me the original manuscripts, the second one was unfinished, but she and Ted filled in the blanks that related to the final battle against Lord Voldemort.
‘I’ll make us some breakfast while you read their letters.’ Tonks said and laid the two letters down next to me.
Amara,
My darling baby girl. You will never know how much I love you, or how the love that made you, saved my life. Your father was the only thing I ever needed to allow me to keep my faith in life, because before him I had none.
My mother, your grandmother, Margaret Carter was a Death Eater by public knowledge, but along with Severus Snape, she was a spy for the Order of the Phoenix and she was the bravest woman I ever knew. She taught me how to be strong, to survive and have courage, but she never got the chance to teach me how to live. Your father was the one who did that and he did so without any hesitation.
We spoke only last night about how we can’t wait to drop you off at Platform 9 3/4 for your first day at Hogwarts, of course, we don’t care that much which house you end up in, we were both Gryffindors, but that doesn’t mean you should feel any pressure about that, every house has its qualities, my mother was a Slytherin and she turned out very well in the end.
But, if we don’t get to see that day, I don’t want you to be sad about it, I want you to be happy and know that your father and I wouldn’t change a single thing we did. We will fight if called upon because we believe that by doing so, we are affording you the life we wished we had when we were young. Your father’s lycanthropy started when he was just four years old and I was attacked and cursed when I was seven. I think it best that one of your godparents explain a little more about it as I don’t really like to think on it.
We were worried when you were born that you would inherit my curse and we couldn’t imagine a worse fate for a baby, but it seems like you only feel joy, because all you ever seem to do is smile up at us, except when you’re hungry and then we’re both convinced you’re some form of devil child. But I expect all parents feel like that.
When the first full moon came along, I can’t deny how scared I was, I stayed with you all night just in case, but you just slept soundly and quietly. Your father came back frantic and asking me all sorts of questions, but I assured him you were fine and got him into bed to rest. The only strange occurrence was that you were exceptionally tired, we concluded that only some of Remus’s attributes were passed on to you, so possibly you’ll end up with wolf-like qualities without any of the pain, which makes me so very happy to think about. I’m excited to find out how you like your steaks, your father likes them a little on the raw side, in fact, he’s got a particular liking for all meat, that and chocolate which I constantly tell him he needs to cut back on otherwise he’ll rot his teeth, but he doesn’t listen or seem to care much, because he just laughs and eats some more.
Amara, I want you to know that I love you, with all of my heart, I love you. I didn’t know if I wanted to write this letter because I knew what it meant, your father is even less pleased about it, but I’m hoping through his annoyed looks it means he’s doing it for me. We’re writing these letters in the living room by the way, in our cottage in Yorkshire, your first home. Your father is sitting in the armchair and I’m laying across the sofa and trying not to laugh at his grumpy attitude, it was a hard transformation this month and I’m sure it was because he was exhausted from putting up so many protective charms, we've had to move around a lot recently. You’re sleeping on top of me, because we couldn’t get you to sleep in the cot for some reason, so I suppose I’m stuck until you decide you’ve had enough. I feel if we don’t survive then giving you that information might be important.
Anyway, I don’t know what more to say, I suppose if we do die before this war is over, no one will let you grow up without a few stories, I just hope they put us in a good light, but then you can’t have everything and we wouldn’t be human if there weren’t a few horror stories in there.
I hope you don’t cry reading this, I know if my mother wrote me a letter, I would ball my eyes out for how much I miss her. But I want you to think of this as a happy thing. After all, I’m writing this so that you can have something of me to keep with you through the hard times, of which I’m sure there will be many.
I love you my darling girl, more than you could ever know.
Keep your faith in life and have courage.
Your mother
Rosaline
I couldn’t breathe, the tears were too much, blinding me, making it hard to read the words my mother wrote all those years ago. It was too much to think about, too much to take in, she was real, she really did exist and this letter was the proof. All I ever had of my parents before this moment was a few pictures from their wedding and one of the entire Order standing together during the war. But this was real, living proof that my parents were more than a faded photograph.
I wiped away my tears and took a deep calming breath, reciting the old mantra Tonks used to encourage me to go through when I was finding life difficult. Breathe, just breathe, relax and take a deep breath.
I picked up the next envelope, breathing steadily and as calmly as I could. The writing was slightly more scrawled and it only made me smile to know that my father was a little grumpy when writing it.
Amara,
You mother knows full well that I’m not in the right mind set to write this and I can see her trying to stifle a laugh which is only serving to annoy me more. Having said that, she is beautiful with you laying across her chest and I think she might be right.
This war is taking its toll on the both of us and I am worried for what it means. When she asked me to write this letter, I was at a bit of a loss, I wasn’t sure what to put into it or what would have been appropriate, but she smiled and said “what do you think she’d like to know about us?”. In truth, that hasn’t helped very much, but I will do my very best.
When I met your mother, I was so scared for her, this beautiful, radiant, smart and funny woman was in constant pain and I knew she needed help. I hope you don’t think poorly of me, but we met when she was in her seventh year of Hogwarts and I was teaching Defence Against the Dark Arts. Of course, please don’t think that we were those types of people to cause a scandal, the very last thing I expected when I took that post was to fall in love, especially given my condition, it was most inconvenient. But I was professional and I did my best to help her see that her life didn’t have to be about pain.
In fact, the very first time I met your mother was about a month into the school year if I remember correctly, she didn’t turn up to many classes because her intelligence superseded anything her teachers could give her and the boredom only made her feel the pain she was trying to distract herself from. But she made a promise to the Headmaster that at least once a week she would make the effort to go to each class… I’m not so sure if this is really what she intended for these letters, but I think it would be nice for you to know how we met and the circumstance under which we fell in love.
Over the course of the school year, I taught her the patronus charm, not that I thought she was incapable in the slightest, but because of the dementors who guarded the school at that time, I thought she would suffer more because of what is in her past; your mother is exceptionally skilled and I feel you would only know that through other people’s telling of that. She often smiled the most beautiful smile and went the most wonderful shade of red whenever anyone complimented her, so once we were out of Hogwarts, I made it my intention to compliment her as often as I could.
I suppose it’s important for you to know that when she was a girl, her mother was a spy for the Order and once the war was over and Voldemort was defeated, Death Eaters went after Maggie Carter and so in turn, Rosaline. Her mother died that night protecting Rosaline and for years she never knew who saved her, as it turned out, it was my father – who you should visit as he gets lonely and he’s always asking about you – I took your mother to Hogsmeade to meet with my father so that he could shed some light on the events of that night, it gave her some comfort, but like with everything else, she didn’t speak much about it for a long time.
Anyway, at the end of the school year, my condition was ‘accidentally’ revealed, and it forced my resignation, your mother was understandably upset, but she was optimistic having been scouted by Kingsley Shacklebolt and offered a job as a crafter for the Aurors department. And then I did something monstrous, I made her a promise that I wouldn’t leave her of my own accord and I did just that. I felt her association with me would only harm her career or any opportunity she had to live a good life, but of course, as she often reminds me, I was wrong.
A year later we met again and she was understandably angry and upset. It took a very long time for us to reconcile, but I didn’t give up because I knew despite her frustration and anger, we loved each other and that in itself was always worth fighting for.
We eventually got married – I often wonder if it was more impulsive than right, given that everyone was panicking over the war, any day could have been our last – and then you came along and it was the single greatest day of my life. Your mother was so strong, I’d never seen anyone give birth before, there was no real reason for me to have done so, but to go through that on top of the pain she feels daily was a truly courageous act and I am ever proud to call her my wife.
I broke just one more promise to her, I swore I never would, but when I told her she just laughed and accepted that this was just one promise that was bound to be broken by your arrival. I swore I would never love anyone more than I love your mother, but the second you came into the world, my love for you superseded my love for her.
We promised each other that no matter what, your safety came first, if one of us is killed during this war, the other will run to protect you, because that is the way it should be and that is the way it will always be.
I don’t know what the future holds, we may die tomorrow or fifty years from now, but I hope I get the chance to know you properly, I hope I get to spoil you with chocolate and listen to your mother shouting at me for doing so, I hope I get to meet the person you fall in love with and I hope you devote yourself to them as fully as I have devoted myself to you and your mother. I hope to walk you down the aisle, I hope to meet your children and watch you grow into the most beautiful woman you could possibly be. I hope you keep your freckles, they’re starting to show on your cheeks now as we approach your first birthday, you have your mothers eyes and those freckles made me fall so deeply in love with her.
Your mother has finished her letter and she’s looking at me, I’m not sure I like how amused she is.
I hope this has been enough for you, I’m not sure what else to say to be honest. Except that I love you with all of my heart and I will do my utmost to survive this war for your sake.
Stay strong Amara, love with all of yourself and know that no one will love you as much as I do.
Your father
Remus
P.S. I forgot to say, just in case we don’t survive and there is no one else to tell you: during the full moon, if you feel especially tired, drink Wolfsbane. While I am exceptionally happy that you haven’t inherited mine or your mother’s curses, you will feel some lycanthropic effects, so make sure you look after yourself, be a little selfish where your health is concerned and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you’re unsure of anything. I love you.
It was so hard to keep a hold of my tears, I just couldn’t believe that my father’s entire letter was about me and my mum, I couldn’t believe that the last things he wanted me to know was how much he loved her and looked forward to seeing who I grew up to be.
Tonks came back with some breakfast, a bacon sandwich and I asked a question which seemed somehow important.
‘Did my dad like his bacon this way? Only just cooked?’
Tonks just smiled, her pink hair somehow brightening. ‘He used to get annoyed if you left it in the pan for more than a couple of minutes.’ She nodded. ‘Your mum always used to laugh at him for it, is that what he talked about in his letter? How much he disliked overcooked bacon?’
‘No,’ I shook my head, feeling my tear flooding my eyes again. ‘My mum said my dad loved his meat and… so do I.’
‘Yeah, I remember him mentioning that when Bill was attacked by Greyback, told Fleur he’d probably like his steaks on the raw side.’ Tonks laughed, remembering the day. ‘Anyway, let’s go through some of these pictures, I cannot wait to tell you about some of the things your mum did!’
Tonks showed me some of the pictures taken by Sirius Black, he was my parents friend and a man who had really only recently been cleared of any crimes. Kingsley Shacklebolt, the Minister for Magic had done the right thing in clearing a lot of names since the war, giving out Order of Merlin’s to those who’d lost their lives, including my parents, my father being the first werewolf to receive the award. It sat on my chest of drawers and it was yet another reminder that my parents were brave.
‘Not just brave,’ Tonks smiled. ‘Your father was the kindest man I knew, he’d never say no to anyone who needed help. Everyone treated him like crap for so long because of what he was, everyone except Rosie, who just fell all the more in love with him. And Rosie was so funny! She was quiet and had a temper to be reckoned with, much like yourself,’ I had to laugh at all the times I’d lost my temper at school for one reason or another, Tonks never seemed too upset by it though, she just smiled like it was an old memory and now I knew why. ‘Mind you, your dad, as calm as he was, had his limits as well.’
‘Do you think they’d be upset that I get in trouble so much?’ I asked, strangely imaging getting a howler from my mother and secretly rejoicing that I could hear from her.
Tonks thought for a moment. ‘I think, were they alive now, they wouldn’t exactly be happy that you misbehaved so much, but your dad was a bit of a prankster in school so I don’t think they’d be surprised.’
‘He was a prankster?’
‘Yeah, him Sirius, James Potter and Peter Pettigrew were best friends in school, called themselves the Marauders.’ Tonks laughed and I couldn’t help my smile. ‘Of course, Peter turned out to be a coward and was responsible for a lot of the stuff that happened in the first war, I think your dad talks about it a bit in his book, but no one really knew that at the time, they all thought Sirius was the traitor.’ I already knew about this, having skimmed my copy of ‘The First Great War by R. J. Lupin’, but nowhere did it mention how close the four boys were at school.
‘What about my mum?’ I asked, hoping there was some great epic story about how popular she was.
‘Actually, Rosie didn’t really have many friends in school,’ Tonks said sadly and I felt my hope diminishing quickly. ‘I know that she was on the Quidditch team as a Chaser, but she sometimes played Seeker when Harry was injured. Oliver Wood was the closest friend she had, but I don’t think they knew each other too well.’
‘Oliver Wood?’ I exclaimed. ‘The England Keeper!’
‘Yeah, you a fan?’
‘Erm, yeah!’ I said, gesturing to my Puddlemere United poster. ‘So my mum liked Quidditch? Who did she support?’
‘Actually…’ Tonks looked a little awkward. ‘Rosie hated Quidditch.’ Once again I felt my heart sinking. ‘Well, I should clarify, she hated playing Quidditch, I think opinion on the sport in general softened over the years, but because of her condition, playing such an intense sport took its toll and she was always in a lot of pain from playing and any injury she got, big or small always felt so much worse than it actually was… but I think she’d be really happy that you love it so much, so don’t feel too bad about it.’
I nodded, feeling a little more distant from my parents than I had only a few moments ago.
‘Thing is Amara,’ Tonks rummaged around in the old letters to find another picture of my parents. ‘Your mum and dad were both cursed,’ she finally found the picture she was looking for, it looked like Christmas time and a big branch of mistletoe had been put up between them, my dad was looking at my mum who was trying to contain her smile, before he kissed her. It was like something out of a cheesy love story, but to me it felt so important. ‘They suffered so much pain in their life and I know that all they really wanted was for you to grow up better than they did. They wanted a warm home for you to come back to, they wanted you to experience all the best things in life, they wanted you to fall in love with some stupid boy and they wanted you to know how loved you are… I think as long as you remember those things, you’ll make them so proud.’
I couldn’t help my crying, I couldn’t help how much I missed them, I never knew them, but I missed them and now, through their old letters to one another, through the pictures people took of them and through the music they left behind, I would finally understand them.
Kingsley had been looking forward to this day for sixteen years, no one had managed to keep the post of Minister for Magic for so long, but it was important that he keep it for at least this long so that on the Day of Remembrance, he could tell a new story, one he’d been dying to tell since the war was over.
Tonks told him that Amara wanted to come to the service of her own accord, understanding how important it was to remember those who gave they life during Voldemort’s downfall. He had never really spoken to the young woman, having only turned seventeen a couple of weeks ago and knowing she would have received her parent’s letters, but he’d kept tabs on her, much like a few others in the ministry and watched her grow into a fine young witch.
The people all filed into the ministry reception and Tonks made sure that Amara was seated close to the plaque where her parent’s names sat next to each other.
‘Thank you all for coming here today.’ Kingsley said, his voice booming through the reception at an increased volume so that he could be heard by all. ‘Today we remember the sacrifices made by those who fell during the first and second wars, we remember our fallen heroes and we remember what was given so that we may continue on. Many of you will be expecting me to talk about the political and strategic side of those wars as I usually would, but this year marks a very special anniversary, sixteen years on and a young orphaned girl turns seventeen,’ Kingsley caught Amara’s eye, she was staring up at him, mouth slightly agape. ‘The daughter of two of the bravest souls I ever had the privilege to fight beside and two of the kindest and wisest individuals this world has ever seen. Today I would ask you to think on these heroes with extra care, I would ask you to honour the memory of their achievements, their sacrifice and take wisdom from the lives they lived. These heroes were Remus Lupin and Rosaline Carter. Two of my friends, my heroes and two people I think about every day of my life.’
Kingsley took a moment to compose himself, he could feel the lump forming in his throat.
‘I first met Rosie when she was at school, the smartest witch of her age, built a pensieve out of books she found in the school library, I asked her to come and work for the ministry and do some good with her talents as a fine crafter. She agreed.’ Kingsley sipped a little water from the goblet next to him. ‘Remus Lupin was a teacher for one year at Hogwarts, he taught with enthusiasm and with as much wisdom and kindness as any man could ever possess. I am proud to have fought with such a warrior. Together, they fell in love, married and had a beautiful baby girl who bore her mother’s eyes and her father’s smile, they were asked far too many times to leave their daughter at home and join the fight against Voldemort and they did so, without hesitation, without questioning and without fear. Why? Because they believed in the future, they believed in life and they believed more than anything in love. They died during the final battle, leaving their one year old girl to navigate this new and better world alone, but far better they died leaving behind the foundation for us to build a better world, than died in vain. My greatest sadness is that they held so much hope that they would see their daughter grow, to die at the very end of things, hours before it was all over at the hands of truly evil men and women is the foulest crime ever committed. Remus Lupin was a werewolf, attacked when he was child of four by the now deceased werewolf Greyback, he the bravest man I knew and the kindest soul to walk this earth. Rosie Carter was cursed with living with the Cruciatis curse in her very skin, she was attacked when she was seven by a group of Death Eaters and stayed in her mother’s arms who died trying to save her daughter’s life, Rosie felt that pain every day of her life. Their daughter, while still young, has gone on to become the finest student at Hogwarts, a brave Gryffindor by nature, inherited her father’s compassion and her mother’s resilience and as I hear it, she has also inherited a fierce and short temper, something I always feared in her mother more than her father, especially when it came to the protection of those who could not protect themselves.’ Kingsley smiled down at Amara who was close to tears. ‘Rosie Carter was a hero, Remus Lupin was a fighter. If I could have one more day with them both, I would make sure they knew how much I appreciated their wisdom, I would tell them that they didn’t need to worry,’ Kingsley was beginning to lose himself, he’d never been one for showing emotion, but this was getting to be too much. ‘I would look after their daughter to keep their memory alive, to keep them in the hearts of all those who they sacrificed themselves for. My only thanks is that they no longer have to live in pain and no one will ever again ask too much of them. Today I ask you to remember all those who died, but especially the Lupins, to remember what happens when you stand up to evil and you say no to the darkness, remember what happens when you choose love over hate and anger, when you treat those around you with compassion and you show kindness even during your darkest hours. You remember our fallen heroes and don’t you dare let them die in vain. Remember Remus Lupin. Remember Rosaline Carter.’
Kingsley nodded and listened to the sounds of the reception area politely clapping, most of them probably wouldn’t take the time to remember the Lupins, but Kingsley could never live with himself if he didn’t at least tell people about them.
Tonks was standing with Amara who was crying and trying to hold herself together, when Kingsley gestured for them to come over to where he was standing.
‘Amara Hope Lupin.’ He smiled down at the young woman. ‘You look so like your mother, except the hair, your father had hair like yours and you’re a little taller than Rosie.’ She tried to smile, but her tears were stopping it from reaching her eyes.
‘You… you worked with my mother?’ She asked, her tears silently streaming down her face.
Kingsley sighed and nodded sadly. ‘Rosie was the best at what she did, she built and repaired our equipment, even making improvements that kept us safe and in the fight. She didn’t have the best start, people didn’t understand her because she was quiet, but Tonks soon got her to open up a little and much the shock to everyone else, we found your mother was quick, she was strong and she was so incredibly brave. Would you like to see the office where she worked?’
Amara nodded immediately and Kingsley snuck them out of the reception with Tonks’s help. The office was a lot different than it used to be, now it had four crafters all working at the same pace Rosaline worked at, no one could quite match up to her skill and Kingsley was hardly surprised.
‘She used to sit about here,’ Kingsley demonstrated. ‘Her record player sat in the corner over there and she spent all day repairing old sneakoscopes, dark detectors, even vanishing cabinets and the odd dark object. She was a damn fine crafter and one of a kind, much like you.’ He watched Amara frown slightly. ‘Werewolves aren’t supposed to breed Amara, the risk of passing on their condition is too great and far too much pain to put on a child. Having said that, I suppose Rosie’s curse was much the same, it’s a wonder you’ve turned out as well as you have done.’
‘What do you think happened?’ Amara asked, looking at all the instruments that were in need of repair.
Kingsley inhaled deeply and thought about it. ‘Well, I’m not healer, from a magical stand point, I think the two curses cancelled each other out, but I’m no expert, I’m just glad you don’t suffer the way they did.’
Amara nodded a little sadly, the same way Rosie used to and it sent a sharp pain through Kingsley heart.
‘Everyone always tells me how much they suffered,’ Amara said quietly. ‘They all tell me how much pain they were in and I think about how much I miss them, it makes me feel so guilty to want them to have survived, because if they did, they’d still be in pain wouldn’t they? So, maybe in a way, it’s better that they died… they were so in love with each other and now they get to be in love without the pain.’
‘Amara,’ Kingsley couldn’t help but smile. ‘You are so much more like your parents than you know. You’re right to miss them and to wish they were still around, Merlin knows I wish it had been me instead of them, but you’re also right that now they aren’t in pain anymore… they’re somewhere better and you get to live a life surrounded by people who loved them so much. That would be more than enough for them.’
Kingsley was suddenly taken aback by the young woman hugging him and crying into his shoulder. He held her tight and couldn’t help but remember the moments her mother cried and needed him to hold her, he was never very good at it, but he tried and for Rosie that was enough, so he did his best for Amara and hoped it was enough.
‘Thank you,’ she whispered. ‘Thank you for remembering my parents.’
‘Always.’ He whispered back.
The last train back to Hogwarts, Tonks had dropped me off around eight o’clock because she needed to get to work early that day. I didn’t mind, it was the same every year, except first year where my grandfather, Lyall, had come along and stayed with me for three hours before the train left Platform 9 3/4.
It was a strange sight now, not just because this was my last year at school, but because I suddenly noticed the crowds of people, first years being seen off by their parents for the first time. I wondered what it would have looked like if my parents had been there for my first day, would they have cried? Would my father have even been able to come? I wasn’t sure what the moon cycle even was around that time. I was being silly, of course he would have come, he wouldn't have let something like being a werewolf stop him from seeing me off for my first train ride to Hogwarts, not after he so looked forward to it.
I imagined that my mother would be quiet, trying not to let me know how upset she was to say goodbye, I imagined my father would give her knowing looks and sympathise and I imagined them standing hand in hand waving me off as the platform got smaller and smaller until I could no longer see it.
All my friends found me sitting in our usual carriage and they asked me why I was crying, I didn’t even realise I was until they said it. I told them about my parents on the way to Hogwarts and it led to us all crying over what we’d all lost during the war, some of us it was aunties and uncles, others it was family friends, but no one else had lost two parents and no one else had parents like mine.
I remembered Kingsley’s final words during his speech, it was never more important that I take those words to heart.
Remember Remus Lupin. Remember Rosaline Carter.
END

Another Hinny headcanon! Bit of an AU because a few characters are alive *sniffs*
I was itching to write something but had zero ideas (and was also busy crying over the Marauders schoolwork) but here I am again so enjoy!
Also this is kind of meh but pls don't mind thanx
----
Molly's red hair shone from at the front of the rows of white chairs, where she sat with her husband's arm around her, shaking slightly with tears. Or atleast that was what was told to Harry when Ron walked into the Room of Requirement.
"Are you all set? Ginny's ready, she's looking lovely." Ron smiled at him. Harry nodded, his throat suddenly constricted, rendering him unable to speak. He stood by the closet where he had changed into a black tuxedo with a bowtie, which at the moment felt impossibly tight.
"Merlin, your hair just never sits, does it?" Hermione's voice echoed as she walked in quickly, staring at the top of Harry's head.
"I used so much Muggle hair liquid-"
"Gel," Hermione corrected Ron.
"Yes, gel. We'll have to make our peace with his unruly hair." He continued.
"Harry, are you alright? You don't look too good." Hermione approached him, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm alright, just slightly anxious." He finally turned around to face his best friends. He forced a smile but he knew his best friends could tell.
"Oh Harry. There's no reason whatsoever to be so anxious. Last time I checked, Ginny wouldn't have proposed if she didn't want to marry you." Hermione smiled, but looked at Ron for support.
"Oh definitely, it's totally unlike Ginny to propose to someone she doesn't want to marry." He made a joke which worked, as Harry gave out a laugh.
"It's time." Two identical voices said. Fred and George popped their heads inside the room as Hermione let out a small squeak and rushed out.
"How is it being married?" Harry asked Ron for what was probably the thousandth time that day.
"For the last time Harry, it's amazing. You and Ginny love each other and that's all there is to it, really. Now come on, we have to be there before Ginny." Ron grinned as he put an arm around Harry and led him out of the room onto the grounds.
Harry and Ginny had settled on Hogwarts for their wedding venue as it was the one place where they shared a lot of memories; their first kiss was in the Gryffindor common room, for instance. Not to mention all those quiet moments they spent under trees in the grounds.
The place looked beautiful- the altar was set right next to the lake, decorated in white and pink flowers. Ginny had always wanted a summer wedding right at Hogwarts. It was almost impossible to believe the war was over 4 years ago, and Hogwarts was back to normal. There was only one person who could officiate the ceremony, and he was currently standing in the middle of the altar, broadly smiling at Harry who walked towards him, Ron to his back.
"You look a bit queasy, Harry." Remus whispered with a grin.
"I'm just nervous," Harry attempted a smile.
"You'll be okay- there's really not a lot to marriage." Remus added helpfully, as Harry looked at Tonks and Ted, who was currently sat in his mother's lap, waving his chubby hands at his godfather.
Harry managed a wave back, feeling already better looking at his godson's hair which had turned a milder blue for today. Tonks smiled reassuringly at Harry as well, her hair red for today.
He looked to the other side of the seating to see Molly Weasley still shedding tears but smiled happily when her eyes met Harry's. The Weasley siblings and their wives all sat behind them, except Ron who was Harry's best man.
McGonagall sat next to the Weasley parents, wearing velvet robes, a small smile continuously on her face. She was currently chatting merrily to Hagrid who was to the side of the main seating rows, a chair for him separately.
The rest of the chairs were occupied by his close friends and family, Dudley and his wife also on one of the closer front rows. Dudley waved a small hand, no doubt intimidated by all the wizards and witches around him but trying his best not to show him. Seamus was trying his best to talk to Dudley, being the closest Muggle born.
He looked at one of the chairs in the front row next to Tonks, which was left empty with a black dog plushie. Harry could feel tears line his eyes as he thought of Sirius- how happy he would have been to see his godson get married. The two chairs next to Sirius' didn't help his tears either- they were also lefy empty for his parents- a similar stag plushie next to Padfoot's and a single Lily flower. It was Ginny's idea and Harry loved her all the more for it.
Harry's appraisal of the audience was cut short when the choir started the music and everybody straightened up. All eyes were on Harry, until a few heads turned around to see the bride. However, Hermione walked in first as the matron of honour, wearing a pastel pink dress which Harry noticed for the first time. He could slightly hear Ron gasp, no doubt reliving his own wedding. She came and stood to the side, smiling broadly at her husband and Harry.
And finally, there she was. Ginny was the image of gorgeous- she was wearing a traditional white gown, off her shoulders with a very long veil trailing behind her. Her fiery hair was tied up in a bun, he could tell. Harry could feel his heart thumping- it was a mixture of elation and anxiety, but more elation. Ginny was going to be his wife- they would be together for the rest of their lives.
Ginny was finally here, standing right in front of him. She was the opposite of the blushing bride, waving happily at baby Ted and her parents, both of whom were crying now. "Psst. Harry." Ginny whispered.
"Hi." She smiled, bringing Harry back to reality.
"Hello." He said breathlessly.
"You'll have the rest of your lives to talk, I'm starting the ceremony." Remus admonished playfully; both of them knew he was teasing them.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today," He started but Harry did end up blocking the rest of the ceremony out, too busy staring at Ginny who would look at him and then laugh at something Remus had added into the speech and then look back at him. It was all very dreamy.
"Do you, Harry James Potter, take Ginevra Weasley to be your faithfully wedded wife?" He could hear Remus say.
"I do," Harry managed.
"And do you, Ginevra Weasley, take Harry James Potter to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
"I do." Ginny smiled and for the first time that day, Harry saw her blush.
"And finally, the moment I can SEE Harry has been waiting for, you may now kiss the bride." Remus laughed. But Harry couldn't care- this was the moment he had waited for ever since he had been dating Ginny.
He lifted the veil but before he could do anything, Ginny dragged his neck down and pressed her lips on his, leaving Harry stunned. He could hear cheers coming from the audience, most strongly from the twins.
"And now I declare you husband and wife!" Remus finished, as he hugged both of them together. "Have the best life ahead." He whispered before pulling away.
Harry and Ginny faced their audience, made up of the people they loved the most, but turned back to each other. They were each other's better halves, and now they were married, bound by magic (and law) to be together for the rest of their lives.
-sometime later-
"Throw the bouquet, Ginny!" Luna almost yelled and Harry could have sworn that was the first time he had ever heard Luna speak at a volume louder than a whisper.
"Okay, here it goes!" Ginny turned out and threw the bouquet of pink lilies behind her, her eyes shutting close.
"Aw no!" Collective groans came from the crowd, and she turned around to see who had caught the bouquet.
It turned out that baby Teddy was holding the bouquet which was also bigger than his face, while Tonks' hair colour changed furiously. The baby was laughing as if he he knew it was funny and it was infectious- the rest of the crowd burst out laughing literally a second later.
Ginny turned happily to Harry. "So Mrs. Potter, how do you feel?" Harry asked after pulling her slightly away from the noise.
"Perfect, Mr. Potter. I like the sound of my new name." Ginny smiled, placing her head on her husband's chest. Harry placed his chin on top of Ginny's head, standing quietly under the shade of the big tree where they had first sworn to be together.
Until a wolf whistle broke them apart, or rather two, identical, wolf whistles.

Ginny Weasley and Landon Kirby!!
So this is nearly like a month late! And I am so sorry for that!! I got very distracted, wrote half of this, then left it for like two weeks, so you have my sincerest apologies! But I hope you enjoy this!! ❤️
Ginny Weasley:
• Headcanon for their sexuality — Oh, she has the biggest bi energy out here. She probably figured it out really casually as well, like, she realized she had a bit of a crush on Tonks and was like, "Oh.”
• Have they come out? If so, how — She came out to Bill first, because she remembers him telling her about the boy he fancied when he was in fourth year, and she trusts he’ll be kind, so she waits until he’s visiting and slips it into conversation when they’re alone in the garden. Then she casually tells Luna while they’re reading a book that mentions this queer witch from centuries ago. Then comes the rest of her family, little by little. When it came to the media finding out after the war had settled however, now, that was a far more dramatic and hilarious story; the rumours flew around faster than her supposed secret lovers from her team! She definitely played them up and let people speculate for months, finding the whole thing downright ridiculous but at least entertaining.
• How their friends/family took their coming out:
Bill is as supportive as she expected. He smiles this knowing smile and hugs her, then they’re back to de-gnoming. “I’m happy you trust me.”
Ron is the second sibling she tells, because even though he can be a bit dense, she listened to him gush for hours about Krum, Harry, and his favourite Chudley Cannons player. He stares for a minute like he doesn’t quite know what she means, then he’s making her promise not to date any of the Gryffindor girls in his year because “Dean was one thing, alright, but if you and Lavender—“
George blinked for one second of surprise when she casually mentioned that she was thinking of asking Katie on a date to Hogsmeade, and if he thought she’d say yes, then he shrugged and told her she has a good chance. When she caught his eye, he shot her a soft smile. “If any of my other teammates catch your eye, let me know and I’ll see if they’re interested.”
Arthur was so understanding and supportive that she cried. They were talking, and she couldn’t keep it in anymore, and she just told him. He nodded, shifted closer in his chair as she rambled a bit to try and explain what she meant. When she wouldn’t look at him, he gently took her hand, and she lifted her eyes to meet his and he was smiling. She just started crying and he hugged her until she calmed down. “Thank you for telling me. I’m happy that you’re being who you are, and I will always love you for that.”
Fred grinned like it’s the best thing he’s heard all year when she told him about her date with Katie. He congratulated her, hooking an arm around her shoulders, and proceeded to ask many questions — mostly about her date. “Mum’s gonna accuse the two of us trying to end our lineage.”
She gave Fred and George full permission to tell Percy, because she honestly wasn’t sure about doing it herself. They do it in some really obvious but attempting to be subtle way, when Ginny isn’t there. He doesn’t react then, but he comes to find her later in her room, and he sits down with her. He tells her that it doesn’t matter to him, and he’s sorry that she didn’t think she could tell him. She assures him she was just nervous and he understands. “I will always protect you. Even when you don’t need me.”
Charlie was delighted. She told him in a letter because she wasn’t sure when she’d see him but what he wrote back was nothing but love and support, and he actually came out to her at the same time, and promised to talk properly in person next time he visits. “If you need someone to talk to in the mean time, I’d recommend Tonks, she’s brilliant.”
Molly was the one she was most scared to tell. That’s why she waited so long before finally telling her while they were getting dinner ready. She stared at her back, waiting for her to respond while she dried a plate to set it on the table. When her mum turned to face her, she was wearing a small smile, and said, “Okay,” then handed her another plate and continued with the dishes. Ginny didn’t know what to make of it. Dinner was quiet. It wasn’t mentioned again, and Ginny decided that her mum tolerating her future relationships like she tolerates Bill’s marriage and Charlie’s lack of one was probably the best she was going to get.
As for her friends; she told Luna over a discussion about a queer witch from centuries ago, and Luna had smiled, chin in her hand, and said she was happy to have a friend who shared how she felt. Harry had sat in silence for a moment long enough for her to worry, then quietly asked, “If you’re allowed to feel like that in the wizarding world, does that mean... guys are allowed to feel that way about about other guys?” And she had indeed gone to Tonks once or twice, who was as delighted as Charlie, practically bouncing, and promised to be like a big sister if she needed her for anything.
• Do they go to pride? If so, with whom? — Ginny discovers that Pride is a thing through Tonks, who excitedly tells her everything about it at an Order meeting. She asks if Tonks will take her, which is the height of honour to her. Ginny casually mentions it to Fred and George in the passing, and they ask to tag-along. Bill trusts Tonks, but he still comes along. Just in case; those four out in the Muggle world is a recipe for disaster. She manages to convince Harry to join, too, so of course Ron’s there, and Luna was already planning to go with her dad anyway so they meet up.
• Do they show their colours? (Flag-wise) — After coming out to everyone she cares about, Ginny is happily confident in letting everyone else know. She wears the bi colours to Pride, and she got a few badges there courtesy of George that she has pinned somewhere on her outfits nearly all of the time around Hogwarts.
And now Landon Kirby!
• Headcanon for their sexuality — I just get very strong ace vibes? And possibly bi. It just makes Sense to me.
• Have they come out? If so, how — He told Rafael before anyone else. Just sorta blurted it out to him in their room after many, many days of overthinking how he’d say it. Telling Hope and Josie was then easier, as they were preparing one of their movie nights.
• How their friends/family took their coming out:
Rafael was the most supportive person in Landon’s life about everything, so this was no different. He picked up on Landon’s anxiety while telling him and approached his response with great comfort, assuring him that it changed nothing, he loves him unconditionally, and he would be right there by his side to stand up to anyone who said one word about it. His response actually made it easier for Landon to be more confident in accepting who he is.
Hope reacted in a similar way. She saw how nervous he was and told him that it didn’t make her feel any differently about him. He was a little more worried about telling her he was ace, but she smiled and hugged him, promised that they would never do anything he didn’t want to and she was okay with that.
Telling Josie didn’t feel as daunting; after all, he knew how open she was about her own sexuality, so easing it into a conversation made him less anxious about how she’d react. Sure enough, she gave him a soft, knowing smile behind the wide eyes, and they were joking about it within two minutes.
Lizzie was downright delighted. She claimed that she picked up on the “vibes” from him right from the beginning but couldn’t be sure, so she was just waiting to see if he ever said anything. He of course rolled his eyes at that, but he was grinning as she plunged into a seemingly endless well of questions — mostly about if they had the same taste in people, because they have Hope in common, so she wanted to see if it stretched to her two-week crush on Jed, or her infatuation with Sebastian. They got into a whole debate over Star Wars characters.
Kaleb honestly thought that Landon was already out, so that was more of a surprise to him. He swears hands-down that they had flirted a couple times, so he just assumed! It was a funny moment.
MG was bright smiles and literally just a ball of supportive sunshine. But actually, while talking about it, Landon kinda helped MG realize that he may not be too straight either. It was a nice, very insightful conversation that helped both of them.
Wade could not be happier. He had already come out to Landon a few months before during a D&D game— something that had given Landon a little push — and he’s so glad that Landon trusts him and sees him as someone important enough to share this part of him with. He, of course, also told him while they were playing D&D; he slipped it into his character’s story.
• Do they go to Pride? If so, with whom — Landon doesn’t really know what Pride actually is until he joins the Salvatore School, and after he comes out, Josie gives him a better idea. Mystic Falls hosts Pride every year (it’s a new tradition, really, but the town’s trying to pretend it’s always been so progressive), and so she invites him along. He’s unsure since crowds aren’t really his thing, but Lizzie is insistent (she admits she just wants to see if she can find the love of her life and maybe someone for him if he’s willing), and Hope says she’s going too, and after Wade, Kaleb, and MG invite him as well, it’s hard to say no.
He goes with them all and actually… it’s pretty cool. It’s the most colourful he’s ever seen the town, that’s for sure. And it’s fun!
• Do they show their colours? (Flag-wise) — He’s proud to be himself, obviously, but at the same time, he’s still more comfortable with keeping it quiet from anyone outside of his close friends, so he doesn’t tend to display either of his flags colours too often. He does make an exception for the second time he goes to Pride, though.
So, this was long. I don’t know whether to apologize for that for or not but again, I hope you enjoy some of these headcanons! I had the most fun with the reactions from the rest of the Weasley’s!

Chapter Twenty-Five: Reaching Out.
She never would've thought that one of Pansy's friends was... decent.
Yes, Erick had some pretty nasty friends, but he was lovely, however, he'd never considered them close. Daphne was different, she didn't have a problem with her friends, but she had a restless curiosity and a set of very good eyes, same eyes that helped her realize Erick was acting strange.
"She's been following me for months," Erick scowled at the girl. "I didn't know it was her, but I was careful not to do anything suspicious as soon as I felt it... I'm used to being alone, Daphne, which means I can tell when I'm not."
"Didn't hurt to try," Daphne shrugged, sitting down. "You can stop staring at me like that, I'm not here to kill you."
"What do you want?"
"I already asked her," Erick sat down next to the girl and gestured for Mel to sit in front of them. "I know you don't like her, but if you trust me then you'll listen to what she has to say."
Mel hesitated, if this would've happened a year ago she would've agreed right away, there was nothing to lose and one more friend to gain, but now it wasn't just some silly study sessions to learn about the muggle world, it was the Order, secrets plans to win a war that was yet to start...
"Erick has explained to me that you and Granger taught him a lot about the muggle world and that you've also done a few things off-record... I want to learn, I don't care whether if You-Know-Who's back or not, but I care about myself and my sister. I want to be prepared if it turns out you're not crazy."
"I don't understand," Mel sat down. "You believe us?"
"I don't know what to believe," Daphne made a face. "I know that if the Ministry sent Umbridge here they must see Dumbledore as a real threat, and that's something."
"Why asking me, though?"
"I would rather get my information from someone who's lived around muggles instead of that nonsense pureblood families say all the time. They heard it from their parents, and the parents heard it from their parents... I'm not excited about spending time with you and Granger," She sneered. "But I don't have a choice."
"How do I know you're not trying to trick us?"
Daphne raised a brow in amusement.
"Why do you need to trust me to have a silly study session from time to time?"
"Answer the question, Daphne," Erick pressed.
The girl turned to look at him, she examined his and Mel's face and her interest increased.
"What are really doing here?"
"Listen, you either answer me, or we're done," Mel insisted. "I have things to—"
"Umbridge wants to make her own little team of rats," Daphne said. "Pansy was telling us about it yesterday, she said Umbridge was writing to the Minister the other day after class, and that she managed to read a bit — said it was something about recruiting students to be her eyes and ears."
"So?"
"I could join along with Erick and we could help you. I know you and your friends are up to something, you've been too friendly with students from other houses and that didn't use to happen, we can trick Umbridge so she follows the wrong clues."
Mel couldn't help but think about Kingsley and Tonks helping the Order by lying about Sirius' whereabouts, it was tempting. Hadn't she promised to find a way to beat Umbridge in her own game? Maybe this was it. Umbridge would never suspect two of the best Slytherins being the ones passing information to Mel.
"If that's true," She started carefully. "Then I'd consider teaching you, if you promise to keep your mouth shut."
"Okay," Daphne stood up. "We have a deal?"
Mel faced the girl in front of her, she still couldn't believe this was happening.
"Greengrass, if this is a trick... you'll regret it."
"I know."
Tumblr media
She told Hermione about it because throwing Daphne into the mix was a dangerous move. She figured Harry would be okay since it really didn't have to do with him and what they were doing, he would get anxious no doubt, but he would understand.
Since she had promised to help him with Occlumency, Mel decided to inform him about it during their first study session. Harry was just as confused as her.
"What is it about you," He asked in incredulity, "that attracts Slytherins so much?"
"Dunno," Mel smiled. "Maybe it's, you know, that I don't judge the book by its cover?"
"Shut up," Harry snorted. "I've never seen you pick a book with an ugly cover. Don't lie to me."
"Are you admitting that I was right, though? Slytherins and Gryffindors can get along."
"Have your first meeting with two Slytherins at once," He raised a brow. "Then we'll talk."
Tumblr media
It was a known fact that Umbridge was starting to lose it, with every new decree she was stepping further into a higher position, making her even more dislikeable than before. It was also known, that there was a war going on between the woman and Mel Dumbledore.
She was, to say it simply, mayhem. Mel hung a target on those bullies that would openly talk against the muggle-borns, making their lives a living hell -with the twins' help, obviously- and the best part was that Umbridge was unable to catch her every single time.
Umbridge was a threat to the school, she could feel her breathing on her neck. The funny thing was that even though Umbridge considered her the biggest issue on her list, she was underestimating Mel at an abysmal level.
For instance, the woman couldn't phantom the plausibility of Mel doing wandless magic, even knowing she was a Dumbledore, a gifted one at that, Umbridge's blind trust in Fudge seemed to weigh more on her mind than anything else.
Being the student defending the muggle-borns honour regardless of their house gave her the protection she'd been lacking for years. The witnesses would blatantly deny her participation in any incidents, it didn't matter if Umbridge threatened them with detention, Mel had created such a strong community that it was now acting without her having to move a finger.
While Harry was doing everything in his power to teach what the woman was censoring in her classes, Mel kept destroying every false fear Umbridge had been placing inside the students' heads; but the work wasn't done after the first week, it had to be constant and she had to be careful about the battles she'd pick.
Her lessons with Dumbledore were a great help for that, learning how to clear her mind and compartmentalize her emotions turned out to be brilliant for her plans. She was unstoppable.
Unfortunately, there was a consequence to this: Mel was turning into a prepotent git. She'd started to publicly mess with the bullies, and in some cases, students that were younger than her. One afternoon, Erick caught her while hexing a thirteen-year-old.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" He hissed at her. "You have no right to punish him — You can't allow this to get over your head!"
"Oh, it's way over my head by now," Mel snorted. "I spent four years trying to convince everyone that I was worthy — four bloody years where I got nothing in return. I'm done with that, I'll let it get over my head as much as I want. I deserve it. I deserve the attention and I deserve the bloody power. Umbridge is nothing compared to me."
"You forget you're not the ruler of the school — Even if others treat you like it," He warned her.
"Then stop me," She smiled innocently, though her tone was definitely mocking. "You'll have a hard time trying, Prince."
Erick straightened in his place and spoke out loud:
"Detention, Miss Dumbledore. You'll report to Professor McGonagall tonight — Oh! And thirty points from Gryffindor will be taken away."
Mel's eyes flashed dangerously. "You can't do that."
Erick leaned closer.
"Then stop me," He looked around the hall and yelled. "What are you looking at? Go to class!"
Most of the students glared at the boy and mumbled about taking care of him later, but Erick didn't care, after all, he'd never been afraid of her, let alone of her admirers.
Tumblr media
Neville had found his motivation in the shape of Bellatrix Lestrange. There was something dark but certain in the way he would practice, and there was something pleasant but worrying about the fact that he'd become the best student.
By the end of January, after a long talk with Erick, Harry, Hermione and Ron, Mel decided to mention the D.A. to Daphne. It wasn't surprising at all when she decided to join.
Mel was working at the speed of light: Quidditch practice, O.W.L.s lessons and Dumbledore's along with her little vigilante acts. She was missing meals several times a week, something that her friends were noticing, which caused the sudden appearance of snacks in her bag and pockets.
She was so enraptured on herself that she couldn't even feel Harry's discomfort. She knew he was having a hard time thanks to their weekly Occlumency sessions, he still couldn't clear his head, and although she would try her best she would stop at the slightest hint of an argument about to burst between them. She didn't have the time to fight.
The day finally arrived when Daphne would have her very first D.A. meeting. She was welcomed with open arms, and it wasn't because of Mel's warnings, the students were genuinely excited about having a Slytherin there, and Mel couldn't help but share their sentiment.
She woke up on the morning of Valentine's day having no clue that it was Valentine's day. She had fallen asleep right after a soothing warm bath, her hair turned all frizzy overnight and it hadn't dried completely, so she was sort of grumpy.
An owl landed in front of Hermione during breakfast, holding out a letter for her. Thinking it was maybe Krum's reply Mel didn't give much thought to it while she ate, Ron sat down beside her and nudge her side.
"You're okay?"
"Hmm?" Mel asked, shoving a spoonful of cereal in her mouth.
"I thought you'd be bouncing off the walls today, aren't you excited?"
Mel blinked, swallowing her food and frowning slightly.
"About what?"
Ron stared at her.
"Your date?"
The girl dropped her spoon.
"It's Valentine's day?!"
"Are you sure you're sleeping enough?" He asked worryingly.
"Mum's birthday!" She said in horror. "I have to send her a present — I have to hurry —"
"About time!" Hermione said abruptly. "If it hadn't come today..."
"What's that?" asked Mel anxiously.
"Listen, guys," Hermione looked up at her and Harry. "This is really important... Do you think you could meet me in the Three Broomsticks around midday?"
"Well... I dunno," Harry shrugged. "Cho might be expecting me to spend the whole day with her. We never said what we were going to do."
"Fred wouldn't mind about me leaving early," Mel responded. "Why?"
"Well, Harry, bring her along if you must," said Hermione with impatience. "But will you come?"
"Well... all right, but why?"
"I haven't got time to tell you now, I've got to answer this quickly —" Hermione left right away.
"You know what? I reckon I hate it when she does that too," Mel groaned.
"Are you coming?" Harry asked Ron, he shook his head miserably.
"I can't come into Hogsmeade at all, Angelina wants a full day's training. Like it's going to help — we're the worst team I've ever seen."
"How come you're not staying?" Harry asked her.
"I trained yesterday with Jack so I could go to Hogsmeade with Fred," Mel said, suddenly remembering why she was so tired. "I can't believe I woke up and didn't remember! I've been planning this for days..."
"Mel's alright," Ron sulked. "She's got a good broom and her aim is decent, but we're still struggling... I dunno why Angelina won't just let me resign..."
"It's because you're good when you're on form, that's why," said Harry with exasperation, then he turned to Mel. "And you should consider taking a time off, you can go a week without being Umbridge's nightmare."
"You're sounding like Hermione," Mel said, gathering her hair in a ponytail to get it out of the way. "I got this, okay?"
"Lady!" Fred happily approached. "Ready for the best day of your life?"
"You really need to be humbled," Mel replied, pushing her hair back and standing up, waving goodbye to the boys as she left the Great Hall with Fred.
"You're one to talk, your majesty," Fred mocked.
"Can we go to the owlery first? I forgot to send Mum's present..."
"George and I sent it last Wednesday!"
"Why are you sending presents to my mum?" She frowned
"Because we like her," Fred raised a brow, "And I should be nice to my mother-in-law, shouldn't I? — Oof!"
"You're coming, or not?" Mel said.
"Yeah, sure — Merlin, you're getting stronger..." He rubbed his arm. "All that practice is paying off..."
"Hermione wants to meet in the three broomsticks later on the day," She ignored his comment. "You could come with me but you don't have to..."
Fred shrugged.
"George, Lee and I were planning to buy stuff anyway," He smirked. "We've run out of almost everything. You really are taking this war against Umbridge quite seriously, aren't you?"
"Well, Sirius did ask me to have fun," She grinned.
Tumblr media
"You think it's a good idea to visit Madam Puddifoot's shop?" He asked loudly as they ran away from the rain.
"Oh god, no," Mel grimaced. "That place reminds me of Umbridge's office, so cheesy..."
"You used to like cheesy!" He shook his head. "Just thought I should mention it, that's where the couples go..."
"We shouldn't go anywhere we don't like," Mel responded. "I mean, not that we're following rules anyway..."
"Not that we're a real couple either," Fred snorted.
The whole day had been like any other, the only difference being that it was just the two of them, and they were having fun. Although maybe there was one thing she'd been trying to ignore for a while.
Things were moving forward at an alarming speed in other aspects of her life: Harry and she still weren't the friends they used to be and she certainly didn't feel comfortable enough to talk about her love life in front of him, but it was time to talk about it with someone, it was driving her mad.
Fred was extrovert and funny, but he knew when Mel needed to have a serious conversation and how to support her. Mel could stop him from doing really wild things, she was still the only girl the twins listened to. They had lots of fun together... but they weren't in love.
She'd expected to fall for Fred, even if she was the first to claim it was out of the question. Part of her secretly hoped for the day when she would look into his eyes and realize she was head over heels, but that moment was yet to arrive.
Maybe she could talk about it with Erick, though they had promised not to bring up the romantic side of their lives during their study sessions because it was making Erick rather grumpy lately, and she didn't want to fight with him. Either way, Mel needed to talk about her situation with Fred soon. She knew this whole thing didn't have a future, and she was done pretending.
"You're awfully quiet," Fred mentioned as they walked into the three broomsticks, emptying his pockets of the wrappers of sweets they had shared during the day. "Something on your mind?"
"No," She lied. "Just... I'm comfortable with my life right now, you know?"
If she could, she'd keep this situation going for the rest of her school years, but it wasn't fair to Fred and it wasn't fair to her either. Nevertheless, there would be better days to bring that up than on Valentine's day.
"Glad to hear you're the happiest girl on earth since you kissed me," He joked.
"That's debatable."
"Don't ruin our moment, Lady."
"Anyway..." She grinned. "Thank you for the date, I'll see you around..."
"No problem," Fred winked. "If you end your thing with Hermione before it's time to go back, feel free to join us."
"Alright," She nodded.
When Fred left, she ran into the strangest scene she'd ever seen in her life:
Hermione, Luna, Harry and Rita Skeeter, all seated at the same table. Mel wondered if maybe she was dreaming, but once she was standing right in front of the group, she realized not even her could come up with such a strange thing.
"This is by far the weirdest view of the day, and I walked past Madam Puddifoot's a few minutes ago," She said jokingly.
"Where's Fred?" Hermione asked her.
"Had plans with George and Lee, didn't want to hold him back since I didn't know how long this would take... And it looks like it's going to take a while."
"I'm sorry," Harry said, but he didn't sound sorry at all.
"Doesn't matter," Mel shrugged, untying her hair and feeling it splash freezing cold water on her back. "Merlin, I need a haircut..."
She sat down between Harry and Hermione and smiled at the woman in front of her.
"Rita," She greeted. "You look awful."
"Dumbledore girl," Skeeter said in the same tone. "Are those dark circles under your eyes meant to match your mental state?"
"Nah, I wear them for fun," Mel raised her eyebrows. "Whenever I feel like looking crazy I hex people, would you like to be my victim for the day?"
"That's enough," Hermione scolded them. "We're not here to have a go at each other."
"Why are we here, then?"
"Little Miss Perfect was just about to tell me when you arrived," said Rita. "I suppose I'm allowed to talk to them, am I?"
"Yes, I suppose you are," said Hermione. "But don't call Mel crazy again, you know that's not true."
"Where's Cho?" Mel asked, noticing Harry was alone.
"I... er— She didn't want to come," He replied awkwardly.
"Pretty girl, is she, Harry?" Rita questioned, then she added. "And you're dating some Fred, are you, Mel? Weren't you two together?"
"One more word about their love life and the deal's off and that's a promise," Hermione snapped.
"What deal? You haven't mentioned a deal yet, Miss Prissy, you just told me to turn up. Oh, one of these days..."
"Yes, yes, one of these days you'll write more horrible stories about Harry and Mel, and me. Find someone who cares, why don't you?"
"They've run plenty of horrible stories about these two this year without my help— How has that made you feel, Harry? Betrayed? Distraught? Misunderstood? What about you, Mel?"
"They feel angry, of course. Because Harry's told the Minister of Magic the truth and the Minister's too much of an idiot to believe him, and Mel has done nothing to gain that awful reputation," Hermione replied.
"Well, dunno 'Mione, some classmates might disagree," Mel said in a low, playful tone.
"So you actually stick to it, do you, that He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is back? You stand by all this garbage Dumbledore's been telling everybody about You-Know-Who returning and you being the sole witness — ?"
"What my uncle said isn't garbage," The girl argued. "It's the truth."
"And I wasn't the sole witness," Harry said roughly. "There were a dozen-odd Death Eaters there as well. Want their names?"
"I'd love them," Rita opened her bag once more and this time Hermione didn't stop her. "A great bold headline: 'Potter Accuses...' A subheading: 'Harry Potter Names Death Eaters Still Among Us.' And then, beneath a nice big photograph of you: 'Disturbed teenage survivor of You-Know- Who's attack, Harry Potter, 15, caused outrage yesterday by accusing respectable and prominent members of the Wizarding community of being Death Eaters...' "
"I doubt any of them will be respectable after this," Mel muttered.
Rita stopped abruptly, her smile fading.
"Of course... Little Miss Perfect wouldn't want that story out there, would she?"
"As a matter of fact," said Hermione, smiling at Rita, "that's exactly what Little Miss Perfect does want."
Rita, Mel and Harry stared at her. Luna hummed quietly without caring about the little discussion happening, her eyes glued to her drink.
"You want me to report what he says about He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named?" Rita breathed.
"Yes, I do. The true story. All the facts. Exactly as Harry reports them. He'll give you all the details, he'll tell you the names of the undiscovered Death Eaters he saw there, he'll tell you what Voldemort looks like now — oh, get a grip on yourself!" The girl exclaimed after Rita accidentally spilt firewhiskey on her lap at the mention of the wizard. "Mel will tell you all about Barty Crouch Jr. and how Fudge ruined any chances of being a decent Minister, and how Umbridge is doing awful things to the school."
"The Prophet wouldn't print it. In case you haven't noticed, nobody believes their cock-and-bull story. Everyone thinks they're delusional," Skeeter pointed out. "Now, if you let me write the story from that angle —"
"We don't need another story about how Harry and Mel lost their marbles! We've had plenty of those already, thank you! I want them given the opportunity to tell the truth!"
"There's no market for a story like that."
"You mean the Prophet won't print it because Fudge won't let them."
"All right, Fudge is leaning on the Prophet, but it comes to the same thing. They won't print a story that shows Harry and the Dumbledores in a good light. Nobody wants to read it. It's against the public mood. This last Azkaban breakout has got people quite worried enough. People just don't want to believe You-Know-Who's back."
"So the Daily Prophet exists to tell people what they want to hear, does it?"
"The Prophet exists to sell itself, you silly girl."
"My dad thinks it's an awful paper," Luna finally intervened. "He publishes important stories that he thinks the public needs to know. He doesn't care about making money."
"I'm guessing your father runs some stupid little village newsletter? 'Twenty-five Ways to Mingle with Muggles' and the dates of the next Bring-and-Fly Sale?"
"No, he's the editor of The Quibbler."
Rita snorted.
"Important stories he thinks the public needs to know'? I could manure my garden with the contents of that rag!"
"Well, this is your chance to raise the tone of it a bit, isn't it?" said Hermione. "Luna says her father's quite happy to take Harry's interview. That's who'll be publishing it."
"The Quibbler!" Rita chortled. "You think people will take them seriously if they're published in The Quibbler?"
"Some people won't, but the Daily Prophet's version of the Azkaban breakout had some gaping holes in it. I think a lot of people will be wondering whether there isn't a better explanation of what happened, and if there's an alternative story available, even if it is published in a... in a — well, an unusual magazine — I think they might be rather keen to read it."
"Can't say it's not a good idea," Mel shrugged. "The Ministry'll be stuck. If they act against it people will notice it, if they ignore it people will read it anyway. They don't get to win."
"All right, let's say for a moment I'll do it," Rita said. "What kind of fee am I going to get?"
"I don't think Daddy exactly pays people to write for the magazine," said Luna. "They do it because it's an honor, and, of course, to see their names in print."
"I'm supposed to do this for free?" Rita asked in outrage.
"Well, yes. Otherwise, as you very well know, I will inform the authorities that you are an unregistered Animagus. Of course, the Prophet might give you rather a lot for an insider's account of life in Azkaban..."
"And you kind of owe it to us, Rita," Mel smiled sweetly. "After all the shit you pulled last year."
"I don't suppose I've got any choice, have I?" She spat, leaving her parchment on the table and preparing her quill.
"Daddy will be pleased," said Luna happily.
"Okay, guys?" said Hermione, turning to them. "Ready to tell the public the truth?"
Mel and Harry looked at each other.
"My uncle will be pissed," She said.
But after a second, they realized they didn't care what Dumbledore had to say. They had been acting in the shadows for far too long, it was time to reach out. Harry smiled a little, looking back at Hermione.
"We're ready," said Harry.
