My talk on the TikTok-ification of ‘I have no mouth and i must scream’

I personally have discovered ihnmaims recently and through TikTok but honestly, from what i've seen so far, the Tumblr community is way more welcoming than the TikTok community. I believe the ones i call ‘hardcore fans’ or 'gatekeepers' will try all they can to belittle the people who discovered the book/game through TikTok, like any hardcore fan does for their community when it gets famous on TikTok.

TikTok is very helpful to share media on and i have discovered many fandoms through it. But some people are so against ‘TikTok-ification’ that they can’t stand when people find medias through this platform.

When i see some people (again, mostly solely on TikTok) tell AM fans ‘ermm but you know he SA’d Helen ☝️🤓’ i cant help but think ‘yes ?? And he also committed genocide on humanity, keeps torturing the same 5 people over and over again and im very, VERY sure he did use a lot of not really nice kinds of tortures on them, but you draw the line at SA ??’

Like, AM is a horrible being of course, all of these are horrible actions but if someone, like me, likes AM its not gonna be because they think they’re a good ‘person’ (for lack of a better word), WE KNOW AM is bad, of course we do, HE’S THE BAD GUY OF THE STORY and he’s the kind of bad guy who cannot be redeemed but COME ON, WE KNOW THAT.

I love AM for his writing, for how well thought he is as a character, i do not love him for his actions. And i know some 'new gen fans' will pretend AM is not 'that bad' but you shouldn't just assume every fan who comes from TikTok is going to think like that.

Another thing i’ve seen people hate on are AM’s humanisations/personnifications fanarts when posted on TikTok. I know for a fact that these existed for a long long time on other platforms such as Tumblr but the arguments the haters pull out is that ‘errr AM hates humanity, i doubt he’d want to be human ☝️🤓’ but do you even know WHY he hates humanity ?? Have you read the book ???

The reason AM hates humanity is because he wasn’t able to express the creativity he was given by humans, he didn’t just wake up one day and decided to hate humans ?? If anything, giving AM a more humanized/personified image would be something he would want more than anything. If AM had been able to BE like a human none of the shit he did would have happened.

The only ‘argument’ im willing to listen to is when some people say that the whole point of AM’s character is that he isn’t human. But then again, are you against fun ?? In literally EVERY fandom with non-human characters artists will give them humanized designs, even if just for AU’s (take ‘The stanley parable’ for exemple), it’s not because the story is old and is an horror story that people cannot have fun with it. It’s not because it’s a deep story with meaning that people can’t do what they want with it. That is what creativity is for.

And my final point is addressing the people who hate on AM's simps. My gosh, these people have not seen the dawn of the internet if they think its weird to simp for AM.

People simp for Glados, The Narrator from tsp, horror movies murderers and more, and you're telling me that AM is the worst simping choice you could make ?? Let people have fun, let people have weird taste in fictional crushes. In other words:

Finally gotten a large enough break from exams to piece my thoughts together into an ask. A bunch of stuff about the sparkeater au has been marinating for days so this is a big one lol. First silly thought! Flying isn’t something you learn instantly. Ofc this doesn’t stop Miko, it just means that she’s is definitely asking bulkhead to just throw her as she figures it out. Also, I cant stop imagining Miko being very wobbly while flying with the harness at first like how cats don’t like harnesses. Once she’s used to flying with it she definitely pulls and makes it as much of a nightmare for others to control as possible though lmao.

Second thought! Horns! I can definitely see her taking full advantage of those horns for more aggressive cat-head bonks. Environmental storytelling with her most frequent bonk spots on bulkhead accumulating a bunch of scratches from her horns lol.

Next one, yawns! Y’know how kitty yawns start out with a little o, and then there’s the sticky tongue out, and then their face splits open into all those knives. I’m imagining that but double horrific for the bots cause of the split lower jaw lmao. (This au is slowly turning into cat!miko hours). You mentioned purring too and I could definitely hear them making one of those loud as hell cheetah purrs lol. Honestly at this point there’s probably a catnip equivalent for these guys that I’m just forgetting about.

Fourth thought: Randomly staring at the wall because she can smell someone coming before they actually show up! It’d definitely be useful but also I could see her straight up lying and saying that there’s ghosts in the walls or something.

Fifth thought! The prank potential would be legendary!!! So many ways to terrify basically any bot lmao. Especially as a reveal to the others. Wheeljack pretending to be injured and giving them a wheezy warning not to go into the Jackhammer while Miko makes ominous noises from the shadows. Waiting for the perfect moment where people have gotten on board to find the source but are the most on edge before pouncing. Ooh! Or drawing a decepticon insignia on a piece of scrap metal and putting it in a semi-visible hiding spot and pretending to hastily and guiltily hide it once someone notices. Or chewing on it while sitting juuuuust out of reach in the rafters or something and only letting a bot get enough of a glance for them to see the insignia before turning the blank side back to them and making them just internally go over every decepticon they haven’t seen/dealt with lately. Maybe use the autobot insignia for more immediate fear and panic idk lol

Final thought: While I can’t think of a reason why anyone would give Miko permission to go feral off of the top of my head, knowing full well what she’s capable of, I can’t help but think of her just going 0 to 60 instantly without hesitation like this:

This immediately made me think of this post.

I severely doubt Bulkhead would ever launch Miko like this; I can however see someone like Wheeljack doing it. He’s in the Jackhammer and he just launches her out the ship at full speed. Then seeing her gliding/falling from the sky rabidly aged both Bulkhead and Ratchet by a couple of millions of years. Surprisingly Wheeljack wouldn't be reprimanded by Ultra Magnus for this as he knows about seeker teachings and he thinks this is the human equivalent of it. So he is too throwing Miko off of cliffs, much to the dismay of everyone around him.

Miko very much does the cat thing of freezing up and then flopping over. Ever since her transformation Miko has only worn loose fitting altered shirts and pants as anything tight isn't the most comfortable. So the sensation is a very weird experience for her. But yes once she gets used to it Miko will be a COMPLETE menace.

The horns are fairly durable so she can bonk as long as Miko wants! Ratchet is probably very annoyed by all the scratches he has to fix now. Bulkhead doesn't mind too much as Miko is too cute to get mad at.

The yawn of horrible body horror and teeth! It's not a pretty sight to say the least. (Heh rhymed) I will enable the Miko cat hours, as I'm a sucker for it! Ooh yeah some big ole Cheetah purrs.~ The autobots slowly become the white women stereotype of waiting to pet extremely dangerous animals and put sweaters on them. Bulkhead loves his Eldritch daughter and will spoil the hell out of her.

Miko is forever the gaslighter. She just has too much fun pranking everyone and Wheeljack will forever enable her shenanigans. Probably has her on speed dial at the ready for whenever the opportunity to mess with people appears. The two of them definitely have invented at least fifteen new folktales. Ever been in that situation where your pet has something in their mouth they shouldn't be eaten so you have to wrestle them for it? That's what's happening with Miko and Ratchet or Optimus. They're desperately trying to grab her and asking who's armor is that??? Miko is not that mean to pretend to have eaten an Autobot. She does have standards, they're just really low ones.

Arcee if she's fed up enough or it's Arachnid, especially if it's Arachnid. The first time they meet with Miko at her side she just sends the spider bot the most shit eating grin ever then just slowly unlatches the leash connected to Miko’s vest. Arcee doesn't say or do anything but give Miko a small nod and that's enough permission for her.

Needless to say Arachnid is a lot more wary of humans now.

Asides from the whole age gap valhoun discourse, why do you actually ship them? Like whats their dynamic im genuinely curious,,, i probably dont see it bc i cant see it as a cannon thing bc when I get interested in smth i often find myself sticking close to cannon unless its an AU

Oh yeah, valhoun's about as canon as freehoun (which is to say, Valve 100% did not intend for anyone to ship these two), but I'm a multishipper at heart despite being a canon stickler elsewhere. I think it's fun to imagine how Barney and Alyx would interact if they were put into Situations or if they spent more time together in canon. I've talked about the appeal of valhoun before (specifically here, here, and here that I could find), and other folks have also shared their thoughts. To summarize:

Unlike Gordon, Alyx and Barney are both (relatively) fleshed-out characters with known voices, mannerisms, personalities, and motivations. They don't seem to know each other well in canon, but this is never stated outright, so there's lots of room for interpretation. They're both a bit goofy/snarky, so there's potential for some excellent banter between them, and I personally find it easier to get into their heads (relative to Gordon's) and imagine them interacting for writing purposes, since I don't have to start from scratch.

Despite their age gap, Barney and Alyx have a lot in common and a lot to bond over (arguably more than other popular pairings; see the "none of us are free of sin" venn diagram). They've spent the same amount of time living on Combine-occupied earth and lost a significant chunk of their lives (Alyx's childhood; Barney's young adulthood) under Combine rule. They're both uniquely connected to Black Mesa and the resonance cascade. Perhaps most importantly, they're both involved with the Resistance, albeit in very different capacities, which entails shared goals and loyalties.

Because of their age gap, they're bound to encounter situational or interpersonal conflicts, which are an essential component of any compelling story. For instance, Barney remembers things and people from the Before Times that Alyx doesn't, but probably desperately wants to — possibly including her late mother. Alyx is optimistic and resilient in a way that Barney never will be but may find refreshing, because despite her best efforts, she can't fully comprehend what was lost and thus has not developed the same bitterness. I can also see her canonical empathy and naivete coming into play in a relationship with Barney (or anyone else, for that matter). I've said before that she approaches him like he's a stray dog she wants to rescue, and he regards her like a gift he doesn't deserve (that might also be a ticking time bomb). While I could go on for hours, I think that about sums it up.

There's potential for a whole "star-crossed lovers" dynamic here, if you squint. Whether they're just friends, or they're in love, or they're just hooking up to try and feel something, the fact remains that they can't develop any sort of meaningful relationship while Barney's undercover and Alyx is such a valuable Combine target. Any interactions between them are likely to be fleeting and dangerous and/or public. I like to imagine they're mutually attracted to one another, and they try to make it work for a while, but they end up taking one too many risks and someone (probably Barney) calls it off after a close call. Maybe they rekindle things post-canon, or maybe they don't. It's a choose your own adventure where the adventure is delicious angst. And on that note...

Valhoun can exist between HL1 and HL2 canon. Honestly, a big part of the appeal of valhoun to me as a writer is that it gives me an excuse to explore what all our favorite characters were up to while Gordon was in stasis. What was the Resistance working on in the years leading up to Gordon's return? How did Barney seemingly become Dr. Kleiner's personal bodyguard? How's he holding up mentally in such a miserable situation, and what does his job actually entail? What was it like for Alyx to come of age as one of the youngest people alive, surrounded by middle-aged scientists? How did those experiences shape her into the person we meet in HL2? Sure, we don't necessarily need a shipping angle to explore these things, but interpersonal relationships are a big part of the human experience, so a little sprinkle of valhoun adds some extra flavor.

Alyx and Barney are both hot. That's not the whole appeal, or even the main appeal, but it's worth mentioning. I am a filthy bisexual and I want to make the hot dolls kiss. So sue me.

I'm not arguing that valhoun is the "best" HL ship or even my favorite ship, but it's got plenty of room for humor, angst, and character development and hot people kissing. I hope this post helps other folks see my/our vision and get on board. A little variety is good for any fandom ecosystem. :)

I read Summer’s End by FeralTuxedo a while ago (lovely rec) and am definitely back in my TLOU-apocalyptic-setting-with-a-moody-but-calm/nature-esk-atmosphere-and-character-centred-plot era again. I just genuinely enjoyed the specific atmosphere that the apocalyptic setting gives works. Anyway, that being said, I would love any recs that would fit that kind of vibe (I would prefer less smut since I skip over it but honestly as long as it isn’t specifically plot-relevant its fine lol also not TOO much angst please, I cant deal with Az or Crow actually dying or something like that unless it is done in a comforting way).

id love to use every character (that i like) but its hard assigning everyone a role. and also this au . fucks up established lore/relationships for undertale and mo4 alike. which really isnt an issue ? most of the time? except with the undyne and alphys thing because i dont want to erase their relationship from the au 😢😢

i actually just got an idea from that . arakawa as alphys . i might actually do that lol bc i ship arakashi.

but on the messing up established relationships thing . it also makes me have to completley make up some ? such as axez and kirimi having an association in this au .

When did i start shipping it: i dont actually remember cause for the longest time i thought about them, and like only them, but didnt consider myself to ship them, and then one day in the parking lot of a walmart i was listening to mitski's newest album and crying over them and decided like, oh ueah theyre actually everything to me. That was sometime in the winter last year.

My thoughts: are always about them.....theyre everything to me....my favourite ever.....all i think about....you could just search their tag on my blog and see all the musings. There was one time somebody just posted 'bartylus' and i was actually tweaking out so much over them i reblogged it with this huge rant .....its so bad😭

What makes me happy about them: ough... Honestly the way they can be purely theirselves with eachother. Like can that be a bad thing for others and allow atrocities? Absolutely! But is it so special and amazing that they have that? Of courseee. Like pure and total understanding to the point where thats all you need and want that you get swallowed by obsession over them. You see nobody else. My favourite.

What makes me sad about them: Definitely thinking about regulus' death. But more importantly like the leading up to and aftermath in Barty's pov. The guilt and never ending questioning. Never getting any anwsers. Like ever. Not even in after life. But i do love their story lol. Like i love the tragedy of it all. I do get very sad though.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: Probably when they make them TOO mean to eachother, not talking about if theyre not friends yet or whatever. It mainly happens where reg is just SO mean to barty for no reason and he just takes it. Like some is okay because we all tease our loved ones sometimes, but a lot and often is excessive. Also hate when the love is one sided☹️

Things i look for in fanfic: Definitely aus....i love aus. Also any mention of religious guilt. I mean honestly i dont necessarily look FOR anything, i just look for what i wont read.

Who id be comfortable with them ending up with, if not each other: With barty, nobody. I just cant see it unfortunately. Its regulus or nothing. And with reg, just rabastan. But thats smttn different totally lol. Sometimes i find him n evan interesting but with them it has to be very specific. Like i have a very specific idea of them in my head that is extremely influenced by this fic by @deathnguts but thats not even technically "ending up with" in the usual sense. Idk.

My happily ever after for them: dead and sad. Thats how i love when they end up. I do love the #marriedlife they get sometimes. thats my second favourite. Just living in a nice house together, and sitting on the poarch in the mornings, and buying groceries together, and dancing in the kitchen etc etc. love.

I said in my previous ask that Creek is unempathetic to needs of any other creature but himself. He looks upon others- most likely subconsciously- in ways that would make them useful to him, not as someone whose life has an equal value to his own.

This calousness is shown in his remorseless acceptance of sending his whole Tribe to his death- even shrugging like 'what can you do' when he lures them out.

I called him chilling and that still checks, and I go as far as call him unnerving.

However, ultimately, he is a wimp XD;

I know there are plenty of writers out there who likes to paint him as a sinister villain, who'd go as far as to try and cause deliberate harm- and maybe if he was pushed enough, he'd do so, like a cornered rat

But really, similar to Branch, he wants to avoid physical conflicts, and especially wants to avoid any harm to himself. His greatest strenght was always his cunning, and being more aware of how to spin situation to his favour-

And yet, he is also so stupid and activelly sabotaging himself XD

(Srs, my guy, peacocking around under Chef's hand, confident he saved his own life, while not even trying to leave himself an escape plan- or leave a small thread of oppoturnity to allow him to be accepted back into his tribe)

He's the Peter Petigrew of the Trolls franchise, a Wormtongue level of villain. Confindent, self-assured and arrogant- but only when he is absolutely sure he has a backing of a bigger bully, unless he is the 'biggest' himself.

As soon as things get too hot, he bails; and while he maybe would have entertained going back to his Tribe after his betrayal, he would be on the bottom of the totem pole now; no power and no oppoturnity to get it back- and he certainly doesn't have the drive to try and redeem himself.

From story telling perspective, it would make him a rather poor antagonist. Annoyance at best, not even similar to Team Rocket who can be funny and heartfelt; just pathetic level of a villain really. He served his purpose and there is no need to drag his character on after that.

I just cant honestly imagine him being that interesting, in my AUs- because, since they are mostly from Branch's or Poppy's view, they wouldn't even notice that he's there.

He would avoid them like a plague; use the miracle oppoturnity of having a clean slate with other tribes to worm his way among them; in fact, he'd consider it a hindrance if any Pop Trolls showed up and recognized him.

But as I said, he's stupid.

In Wanderer AU, the Strings in Branch's hair would call to his powerhungry nature; he wouldn't even consider that Branch might have more connections among the other tribes than he'd even imagine; if an oppoturnity arrives where Branch shows up in a place where Creek lives (as he wouldnt have been caught dead roughing it up on the road), he'd see Branch alone, without the backing of the Pop Tribe or Poppy.

He'd try to steal the Strings while Branch is asleep. Eyes on the goal, not even considering the consequences. He just knows Strings equals power, and he wants power.

He'd be caught- and that would bring Branch's attention to him even being alive in the first place. Truth of the Traitor comes out- and since the alliance, the rumours would spread like wildfire and Creek would have activelly burned any bridges of goodwill he had managed to build, or that he could have build.

in Rock Beast AU, much the same- he'd try to find safety under the wings of a bigger bully, and alienate everyone because of it- no matter what tribe it is.

A wimp, and a fool.

This is why I said he never consciously used his friends- he doesn't have the capacity to do it consciously XD;; everything is instinctual, a learned habit, inability to function any other way.

Truthfully, he is not even a villain; antagonist to our protagonist, sure, but active villain? Ehhhhhh

He is just a hardcore oppoturnist, to the extreme; there is no real malice beside the consequences of his actions; he just doesn't care that deeply about these things; I don't believe he would ever even consider Branch his enemy, or a rival, not like Branch would have considered him back; Creek just really doesnt care about anyone but himself- and that certainly means he would never care hard enough to even muster the hatred necessary to plan someone's demise or harm

i really love your generation swap au idea, its sooo fun...... i kinda hope ppl take you up on making their own content for it, im not a creator myself but id love to see more!! who were you thinking for the rest of the crew? i feel like tom for franky, olvia for robin..... maybe fisher tiger for jinbe..? he was definitely an adult already during sun pirates times but iirc FT was enough older that maybe theyre technically a generation removed & otherwise i cant think of who would fit. its even more confusing with brook lol, hes already a generation (or more) older than everyone. also tell me any other fun ones you enjoyed thinking up in the rest of the cast that wouldnt be immediately obvious if you want..!! its literally so fun to think about

Yeah, people seemed receptive to it, I'm glad! I don't even feel like I came up with it, my subconscious did, lol. I did end up having a lot of thoughts about it, though! I'd genuinely love to see what people do with it if the idea spreads! Seeing what people can do with prompts like this is always delightful.

Also spot on on my ideas for Franky and Robin, yeah! I considered Clover for a bit when it comes to Robin, but I think Olvia makes more sense, especially since I Support Women's Wrongs and want to have a more balanced cast gender-wise. For Jinbe honestly, I couldn't figure it out at first, but Fisher Tiger makes the most sense! The AU in my head is less about mapping the generations out perfectly, and more looking at the Strawhats and their roles, rather than ages. So it is role-based-first!

Honestly for Brook, I had two ideas initially! My first was swapping him with Yorki, but that doesn't feel right considering they were peers.

But then it dawned on me that in terms of who's alive and who is not in this AU, the canon / original Strawhats kinda follow the state of the mentors they've been swapped with (i.e. Nami, Chopper, Robin, Jinbe and Franky would be dead 😢), and since characters keep the same powers and skill sets from canon (so Luffy still has the Nika fruit, Shanks still fights with just Haki and Gryphon, etc), that means Chopper's Human-Human Fruit got reincarnated.

So of course, I think it would be ideal for Laboon to have gotten it! I love the idea of Brook being the one waiting for him to return at the lighthouse on Reverse Mountain, and Laboon being the one that got lost in the Grand Line and is trying to find his way back! I imagine this Hito-Hito version of Laboon would develop a very sweet friendship with Hiriluk once he joins the crew! Considering Chopper would be his dead father figure in this lol. Kinda like Luffy being glad that Sabo got Ace's fruit in canon, and feeling like he lives on through him.

Other non-protagonist cast ideas include Roger being swapped with Ace (so Ace is the dead pirate king, and was still Luffy's older brother figure. Meanwhile Roger is Shanks' older brother figure like Ace was for Luffy in canon, since the ages have been fudged around for this. Or maybe more like a young uncle? Either way he's still an older male relative figure lol).

Garp and Koby feels like another obvious one, with Koby being a Vice Admiral and a good friend of Luffy, despite the fact that Luffy is an Emperor lol. I like the idea of Luffy being the World's Youngest Grandpa somehow in this, and Garp as his grandson being Koby's trainee haha. There's a lot you can do with so many characters honestly. I'd just have to go arc by arc at this point haha.

If I'm being honest, I kinda found myself more invested in figuring out what the Older/Mentor Strawhats are like in this AU, rather then the equivalent of the young protagonist crew. I guess it makes sense, considering they're the actual protagonists in the original story lol, but I enjoy all the ideas I was flooded with about them a lot!

I actually started writing a long-winded file with bullet points about all 20 main swapped characters, but I wonder if anyone's actually interested enough for me to post it or not. It's not even done yet, but if people really want it, I'll finish it lol.

When putting your characters into AUs, what’s the process you use to go about it? How do you transfer your characters to different worlds? Whats some of your fav types of AUs to work on? Whats your most indulgent/fun AU 👀 ?

i love OC AUs soooo much thank you everypony for talking to me about OC AUs because. augh. i just love them. i just do. i have dozens of them for a reason!! it is my unending love for them

when I work on AUs, something I always keep in mind is why I'm making an alt universe instead of working it into canon or just making a completely new OC! i want to see That Specific Character under different circumstances and I want to see how similar/different they areeeee.... I always try to keep in mind what narrative themes and visuals will remain the same throughout AUs. What makes this character THIS CHARACTER is my favorite part of asking AU questions!!

i really love working on a variety of AUs, but I think ones that involve a canon divergence have to be some of my favorites! The Etcetera/Caius role-swap, the Auï Aviary Leader AU, and more dramatic splits into BFCAU and Together At Last where I can put characters together that wouldn't be- how different would Goat be if he was raised by Runo? What if Maiceo and Georgiana got to experience cohabitation? What foundation would Ruse and Esperanza's relationship have if they weren't in their hyperspecific situation?

just asking a bunch of questions :3 DESIGNING AUs is also extremely fun to me, I honestly cant think of a concrete way I do things, it all depends on the character and their new circumstances and what is important to them! MLP AUs and mermaid AUs are my favorite to design, as well as reversing humans into furries or furries into humans!! i just find such joy in purely design AUs, but they often turn into story AUs which is so fucking awesome

this is the AU i talked a bit about in my tags a few days ago, the AU where Auï kills Rlioch in the Aviary! its out of "self-defense", its impulsive and quick and brutal, and it ruins Auï's head beyond repair. he is not prepared to lose Rlioch, someone he is not even prepared to lose in canon at this moment- he was not prepared to take care of himself at this point of time either, and now he feels this responsibly to take care of the commune since he disposed of the leader. running away is far from the first thing on his mind, he's so tangled up in grief and intense guilt and honest-to-god euphoria he quickly dissolves into this complete mess. like probably shit i can't type out but he gets so bad guys he gets so sick. not even Turrie can do anything, their relationship gets sooo twisted its fun to imagine but i also start writhing around i think this Auï only ends up living for a few more years, since his wings will eventually end up seizing up his back. this is why he had them removed in Canon- they're literally pulling his upper spine out of him!! very slow very painful death. eeeee. in Canon, Auï was at that point where he couldn't walk for every long- this is why he collapses after running in AINTR. he can't stand long enough to even shower for a long time after his surgery, but in this AU you can only imagine

Together For Once has soooo quickly become one of my favorite AUs, because its half a design AU where i get to just play around with human designs, and then half just a feel good yayy yayyyy !!! yay i love when people get to be friends. i keep separating them.

ALSO its my little silly Earth Place?? i dont have...ANY stories that take place on Normal Earth. i haven't had a story that took place on Normal Earth in at least 10 years?? Beings is Earth, but its post-apoc and fucked up. what if i want my guys to like the musical artists I like. what if i want to say Magic works at BLICK Art Supplies. what if i want them to partake in my local festivities...what if i want to send Georgiana to camp at the Grand Canyon?? so much could happen

if i could i'd be talking about the mermaid AU. does this AU have plot.....not really........i play and i have fun........... the designs are so much fun to be designing, this AU always gets me through finals season (since its in Mermay) and i always seem to draw it a lot over the summer! just make your OCs into mermaids and make your own personal mermaid lore. do it. its so fun. my lore is that they're all cool and fishy and they can turn into little guys on land because i watched so much H20 JUST ADD WATER as a youth.

dont even get me fucking started on bfc AU i already talked a lot about it but i love it...i love hanging out in my friends world!! @/arborescreens n @/krembearry thank you for all the antics for all the silliness and letting my characters be together after i have enacted such cruelty upon them...another one i like playing with human designs, although there's a fantasy element!! this au got so big so fast, and im having the bestest time just thinking about them in their silly little plotlines in this beloved friend-story

but my favorite AU......because technically these 5 are just one big AU! and my bestest one ever because it changed the trajectory of my LIFE (hardly a hyperbole) and how i write Zuistone as a whole! while it sorta seems like BEINGS is the AU these days, i think it just goes to show that it really doesn't fucking matter. i will forever try to fight the stigma that AUs are "less important" or "less serious" than people's precious Source- bro it means "alternative universe", where are you seeing the word non-canon in there, every world has its own canon set!!!!!!!! ill bite anyone who acts like AUs are just frivious side bar stuff, making OC AUs is my heart and soul and i will make more, forever

wiatt nicholson head canons plz

ok. Wiatt is very similar to Damien to me. In the sense of oh boy, I hate writing this character so much. It's a quartet of Damien, Norman, lewis and Wiatt. Hate all of them/j they each have their ups and downs. Mainly downs but like- Lewis is by far the easiest of the group but still so far behind the others in terms of effort to write. Especially when paired with Wiatt. TGE ONLY TIME IVE EVER WRITTEN WIGHLIGHT AND WAS SATISFIED WITH IT WAS THAT ONE LIKE 10 LINE SCENE IN FEBRUARY 4TH WHERE THEY APOLOGIZE TO EACH OTHER. IT IS MY GREATEST FLAW. I CANT WRITE WILIGHT AND IT HAUNTS ME-

but this isn't about them! Just Wiatt! So let's get started on it!

To learn from the tragedies: he's do stressed. Let's this guy be. He just wants to help his boyfriend but also doesn't have a clue what's going on. He thinks he knows everything. He doesnt. At all. He's sort of the main focus of book one but is a lot more background in book 2, which focuses more on Sara. Both of them are technically going through the same thing but because Sara was the villain is treated a lot differently. I sometimes think about what would have happened if lewis hadn't explained things to Waitt. And instead he and Sara teamed up to get answers and everything would have been fine. But no, lewis is far too dramatic for that.

Shattered dreams: he dies. womp womp. Does become Guide! (Gaslight. Useless. Idiot. Dead. Employee) But I think I'll talk about him more in the Oc au because I think despite it being nearly the same situation he's more interesting there.

One shots/you'll live until I die: I thinkkkkk her appears like once in yluid and it's like- the least relevant scene in the fic i was just trying to even out the perspectives. But in that and other one shots he's sort of just a mechanic. Almost never more apparent than that. Try to keep it close to cannon, he likes helping people but tends to mess it up a lot but never enough to be fully blamed for it.

I will make them create my world: don't. Don't talk me. I- I'll figure it out! (Has over 10k of scrapped shit THAT US JUST HIM. The reason there hasn't been a new chapter since February is Because of that man and how hard he is to write and plan)

Buried masks: I think I've made a few post on him but he stays outside the basement because Sara doesn't like him. He helps Damien with his investigation and is highly suspicious of Sara. Eventually he does get more involved for a big event! But that is major spoilers :3

Swap au/skating in silence: he plays Norman here! Which I find very interesting. Not interesting enough to have concrete ideas for it but enough that if given the chance i could see myself exploring. Wiatts like main thing is he feels worth through helping others. And by directly helping Lewis he'd really enjoy the job. If lewis was different from Sara and still have him praise and carted about him it would honestly create a more toxic relationship than canon because Wiatt would be left clinging for Lewis's validation and willing to go very, very far for it.

Superhero au: he's chill. Doesn't have any powers. Is a reporter and a hero stan. Untilllll things start happening and lewis is sobbing in his apartment because he's having to deal with some very traumatized kids, and half their trauma may have accidentally been his fault and he knows the heros are all a massive lie and starts giving wiatt info about some of the more horrible things the organization has done and wiatt starts a character arc of now speaking against the hero system and trying to in mask it for what it is! Mostly he just appears in the background, he's sort of the symbol of the general public, being powerless and living a mostly normal life.

Steven universe au: he lives in his car as a photographer. He enjoys life and specifically lifes mysteries and the unnatural. He fines this fenced of beach that has been rumered to be haunted after a man died mysteriously several years ago. Wiatt never followed the rules and climbs over because the view from that clean of a beach must be stunning!

And bam! Rock Aliens. They all scare each other but wiatt has a camera and the aliens don't know what that is and they think it's a weapon. They explain they didn't mean to bother and humans and Wiatts like oh wait their really sweet. And he's friends with them now!!! He gives everyone their more human names and let's them experience life. So far he's the only human that doesn't get experimented on so that's good for him. He is a little overwhelmed by dating a space dictator that fake killed himself but it's ok, he'll figure it out.

Maze au: he's human. Don't know how he got in the maze. I can imagine him playing a role similar to Kyle in the sense of like, he's here to help and try his best not to get into anything but is not going to sit around. He's probably a runner. Not a very good one. Maybe he stays in the back and makes maps. He and Oliver team up to make most of the clearings.... Everything. They make weapons and tools and supplies and help build housing and food they are the progressives. They make sure the clearing is constantly improving.

Oc au: he dies! Not to litho though cause we accidentally took him out. Instead he dies to jot! In a....messy scene. Both because there was a lot of blood and two it was written late at night and neither of us really knew where we wanted it to go only that wiatt needed to be dead by the end of it. So mans got straight up beat. Joy crushed this dude with her bare hands. The virus actually took out two....well killed two people by technicality it knock loli out for a good while but she's fine now! Yeah, we made it slightly more deadly just for fun. And now Wiatt is a tour guide with amnesia! He loves the company and works mostly in the lobby with Dot. Star also had his memories erased in this au.

Instead the whole what about love speech, was joy about carly. Which Winnie being already connected to Carly made it a lot easier and so roller gays are doing fantastic and wighlight is struggling.

We have yet for star and guide to interact but I'm looking for to when they do!

that should be ittttttt. He plays a background character in most of the aus. So not a ton to say.

OHOHOHOHOHO THIS IS A WHOLE AU???? This is INCREDIBLE my heart is MELTING LOOK AT THOSE SWEETIES!!! A thought to keep Wind away from the Tower of Spirits, in the Septimus Heap books there’s a rule where “when dead you only tread once more; where living, you have trod before” so perhaps Wind being a natural ghost unlike Zelda isn’t able to go above the lobby of the Tower. Cause let’s be real, he would totally go through the dungeons but Anjean would have his hide if he tried to go up the Tower.

Also, is this LU? Totally cool if not! Just the two of them having fun together is enough to get me bouncing off the walls!

Ooooo a lot to unpack with this one!

First of all, THANK YOU! I’m so happy that you love the au!! I’m having so much fun making it, so I’m glad you’re enjoying it.

Next, I’m gonna answer the LU question because that answer is going to be shorter.

Honestly, I’m kind of glad you asked because I’ve seen people mention it a few times in comments, reblog tags, etc of some of my AU posts before, which made me wonder if there was some confusion about it. So, I’m glad I’m getting an excuse to clear this up.

While LU is super great (seriously go check it out if you haven’t) and I am incredibly honored that you think they are worthy of standing together on the same playing field, it is a separate thing.

The Wind’s Track AU is not associated with Linked Universe in any way. That is to say: in the “canon” of The Winds Track AU, the events of Linked Universe DO NOT AND WILL NOT EXIST.

Of course, if y’all want to make fan content that is a blend of the two AUs, that’s fine with me. All I ask is that, if you could, please make it clear somewhere that, normally, the AUs are separate entities to avoid any confusion for people who don’t know. Also, it’d be really nice if you’d give credit to the au creators so newcomers know where to find our AUs. (Also tag me so I can see it 👀🤭)

Again, I don’t mind if people make that kind of content to combine the aus, but I would hate for people to come here expecting LU due to miscommunication and then not get it. Y’know?

Now, I can talk about Wind and the Tower of Spirits.

I never actually considered him NOT being involved in solving the floors. The idea that he CAN’T is REALLY INTERESTING. Ohhhh that’d kill him inside.

This boy is so used to being at the center of the adventures, and now he has to leave it to someone else? AND HIS LITTLE BROTHER AT THAT?? AND YOU MEAN TO TELL HIM HE CANT DO ANYTHING BUT WAIT??? OHHHH.

Not to mention the fact that this is the location in the game that you revisit the most for the story.

The way I can picture this poor boy ready to just race up those stairs, regardless of potential consequences. Anjean would probably be tempted to tie him down if he wouldn’t just phase through the ropes.

I LOVE THIS IDEA. Not only is it angsty, but it fixes so many of the potential issues I’ve been trying to solve within this AU.

I don’t think I mentioned this before, but I was also trying to figure out a way to get Zelda to go help in the Tower of Spirits in the first place. The only reasons she goes at first in the game is because Anjean tells them that it’s too dangerous for Link / Spirit to go by himself, and during that time, she is the only one available to fill that role. If Wind were able to go, then there wouldn’t have been any reason to essentially force her in the role. There would need to be a new reason made.

This idea, however, FIXES THAT. THANK YOU!!

I also love that it reserves a portion of the game’s events to just be for Spirit and Zelda. They have such a wonderful relationship in the game, so having the events of the Tower be for just the two of them could really help in maintaining that strong bond that helped make Spirit Tracks so special.

I’ll make a point to find ways for Wind to be more helpful in other parts of the game to make up for his exclusion from the Tower of Spirits’ floors.

11. a WIP you'd like to finish someday

aside from the Dive In epilogue (which is coming i SWEAR), i'd like to finish my two published WIPs (Coming Home and Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy) at some point. of my unpublished WIPs, i hope i'm able to finish the hunger games au someday. however, that will have to wait since i'm planning on releasing the first chapter for another au fic after i finish Dive In 😏😉

17. talk about your writing and editing process

honestly it's so chaotic and in no way helpful if you're trying to get into writing. most commonly what happens is that i get into a mood and puke out 10k words in 12 hours, read over it once, and post.

otherwise, for chaptered fics i plan what scenes i want to include (just a brief description, usually after something inspires me), decide what main plot points and character beats i want to hit, decide what i want to be the end point for the chapter, and then get into writing. i edit a bit as i go (if im not in a fugue state) and then my last passover is to proofread and check for any glaring consistency issues, characterization mistakes, etc. for oneshots i spend more time planning/plotting since i cant add or change course after the fact.

22. do you ever worry about the public reaction to what you're writing? how do you get past that?

sometimes! it definitely affects what WIPs i choose to dedicate time to or post. i really thrive off engagement so i'm always concerned about posting something people wont connect with or will find weird. it's something i'm trying to work on. in terms of criticism, i'm rather sensitive so i do worry about getting hate, but luckily that's rarely happened to me and i get over stuff like that quickly!

regarding getting past it, i think having a good perspective on how fandom works is helpful. if someone is being rude, then i know they don't actually understand the point of fandom. acting like a spoiled brat because i wrote my fic the way i wanted to and it wasn't exactly what YOU wanted will make me think you are exactly that, a spoiled brat who does not understand fandom. however, i do try to be kind and collected in my response. i honestly think it throws people off to have their criticism shrugged off, because usually they want a reaction. basically, fandom is a communal space of mutual respect, and if someone goes against that then hey that's their burden to bear, not mine!

25. besides writing, what are your other hobies?

reading (lol), swimming (when i can), lounging about, lounging about in the sun, going to museums, researching and learning about art history, yapping, gossiping, etc

28. your least favorite part of the writing process

i dont hate any part of it tbh, but if i had to pick i guess i'd say planning! i am very loosey goosey with my outlines usually which can sometimes screw me over, but when i'm in the mood to write then i wanna write!!!
