Army, Man
Juan was your average guy before his life was changed forever. Decent grades at his dream college, but no friends to speak of. So when he received a letter to join the US army in his assigned mailbox Juan was very confused. "The army? They must joking." Juan spoke as he looked at the recruitment flyer in his dorm room.
Juan and being enlisted in the army sounded like a twisted joke to him. He was scrawny and could barely do one pushup in gym class. Either way, Juan noticed a number at the bottom of the flyer in big bold letters and some voice in his head was nagging at him to call it.
"I guess it wouldn't hurt. Maybe it'll be fun! Who knows!" So Juan grabbed his phone and dialed the number.
Some rings later and it sounded like a guy picked a phone. "Hey there, Name's Gruff, I'm assuming you're calling cause of the flyer you got in the mail, yeah?" Gruff's was deep and masculine. Definitely Juan's type but I bet he was straight.
"Y-Yeah! I thought I'd give it a shot since it's not like I got anything better to do!"
"That's the spirit man! Our army count has been real low due to... events so even one guy joining is great! But first I just need to ask you a few questions..." "A-Alright. Go on ahead..." Juan had to wonder what they would ask. "First question! Are you sure you want to join the army?" Gruff's tone was dead serious on this one and it shook Juan up a bit. "U-Uh... Yeah!" Juan was too far in to quit now at least that was his reasoning.
"Wonderful! Next question. How muscular are you?"
Juan frowned. As mentioned before, he barely had muscle and never went to the gym. Still, he felt the need to answer honestly.
"N-Not really sir. Sorry." "Haha don't worry about it! Alright that's all see you soon!" Gruff hung up before Juan could even say bye.
Juan was a bit shaken but that wasn't too bad. Juan pondered the interaction and something hit him. "Wait... I didn't tell him my address and he said he'll see me soo-" A wave of pain immediately hit Juan and he fell to the floor.
It wasn't before long Juan's body began to grow and get more muscular. Juan's arms became much beefier as his biceps were the size of sports balls. Six perfect abs popped onto Juan's stomach as his nonexistent chest began to inflate and become thick poppable pecs as his back expanded to support his new musculature making his tshirt real tight. Soon after, Juan's neck got thicker as his adam's apple was now ever more prominent than before as he gained some facial hair around his mouth. Juan's legs were next to grow as his thighs became much larger and his legs more defined as feet increased some sizes. Luckily Juan wasn't wearing any shoes but Juan's socks definitely didn't survive the growth. Some more minor changes appeared like a bigger dick and Juan's body aging physically. It's a miracle none of Juan's clothes ripped apart but it's not like it mattered anyway as Juan's apparel began to change.
Juan's graphic tee became more tough material and more generic as it became a dark green. It was still tight around Juan's figure though. Next up was Juan's pants as it gained a camouflage pattern and became cargo pants. A belt magically appeared and looped around the belt holes of his news pants as well as an army hat wrapping around Juan's head. Juan's socks were stitched back together and went a dark black and suddenly army boots were now being worn by Juan. The last change was an army tag appearing around Juan's neck saying "Juan Graham". Juan was now the definition of a buff army man.
Once the pain subsided and Juan regained his bearings he readjusted his glasses and looked at the mirror nearby. "What the- WHAT THE FU- Oh god, my voice... my EVERYTHING!" Juan was amazed but also scared. He gained muscles in seconds but how?
And before Juan could question things further, Juan's phone rang once again. Juan saw that it was the army recruit number. He concluded they must be involved so he answered the call.
"Hey Juan, ready for your first day?" It was Gruff again "First day? You did this to me, didn't you?"
"Not sure what you mean, but you agreed to join the army and we need you now." "But I don't even know anything about how to do anythin-" One more sound of pain hit Juan as memories of years of military training and gym workouts filled his mind. Everything he could ever need to be in the army was now in his brain. Juan now much more confident started a new sentence. "Nevermind. When does the car get here?"
"That's our Juan! Should be there soon. You can walk out and wait already." "Perfect. See you soon." Juan hung up and left his dorm and old life behind. It was probably for the best anyway. He much preferred being a beefcake army man than some twink in college.

as long as i’m here (no one can hurt you)
| alessia x reader | hurt/comfort | 3.1k | disclaimer: mentions of anxiety & self loathing -this gets dark so please read at your own discretion! | a/n: based of this req! initially was supposed to be really fluffy but then somehow it just became 2/3 angst soooo welp. honestly it started off really strong imo but idk what happened towards the end, but oh well. not proofread as usual. anyways, take care amigos, happy reading!
~~~
Your heart’s in your throat and you don’t know how it got there.
Your heart’s in your throat and the world around you’s dark.
Your heart’s in your throat and you don’t know where you are.
All you know is you’ve gotta go- you’ve gotta go fast- because if you stay any longer, the voices are going to catch up.
They’re going to catch up and they’re going to tell you- no scratch that- they’re going to remind- they’re going to remind you that aren’t good enough.
They’re going to remind you that there’s better, that there always will be someone smarter, more athletic, more confident, more outgoing, more fun.
They’re going to remind you that none of this is real- convince you that everything is just fake. That you’ve lost your mind enough to devise your own reality, where nothing exists yet everything is perfect.
They’re going to remind you that you aren’t worthy. That you’ve fluked your way through life- everything gifted to you, everything undeserved.
It’s the way it always goes. You running and running and running, only stopping either when the voices catch up or when you wake up, and if you were honest, you don’t know which one you prefer.
It’s not that you’d be dead, nor is it that you didn’t want to be alive.
It’s that you don’t know how you could explain to the sleeping girl beside you that even with every second you lay asleep, the voices in your head don’t cease.
That each time she comforts you as you wake, shirt damp with sweat, shuddering breath escaping your lips, the words get louder in your mind.
And with each circle rubbed into your back, or reassuring word mumbled against your tangled hair, you think about how she could do better, better than you, better than this mess of troubling dreams, this mess of tangled voices, nonexistent but real to you, shouting, screaming, yelling, reminding you, telling you, letting you know.
You aren’t good enough, nor will you ever be.
She deserves better, better than you.
You’re a fraud, a fake, a phony.
The words repeat and repeat and repeat.
~~~
It’s the third time this week, and it’s only Wednesday, that you wake up, heart racing, palms sweating as you try and regulate your uneven breaths.
It’s new to you, this whole nightmare thing.
You’d even go as far as to call yourself a lucky child, able to count on one hand how many nightmares you had when you were younger.
Now? Now though, it’s a miracle if you sleep through the night.
You don’t know when it started- maybe sometime between the middle of last season and its end- when all you saw attached to your name was negative chatter.
Flooding comments on social media calling you unreliable, unworthy, unneeded for your team.
Offhand remarks of how you could’ve played better, could’ve done more, didn’t deserve a starting position, maybe would be better as a late sub, for the sake of the team.
Maybe it was when you spent countless hours post practices perfecting your free kicks and running shots, only to be told to not take them as much, the dismissing tone in your coach’s voice clear, disapproval clear in their eyes.
Words said and said and said, their intent to hurt, to prick, to wound successful.
It was those words that rang out in your dreams, among the thousands of other outcries you were used to having directed your way.
You thought you could take it, firmly believed so.
You were a professional athlete for fuck’s sake, a little bit of verbal battering was nothing you couldn’t handle, right?
At least that’s what you told yourself each time you woke up in cold sweat, mind exhausted, heart tired as you tried to remind yourself those opinions weren’t facts.
As usual, it led you to now.
Now being you stiffly lying on your side of the bed, the room bathed in darkness, only the sound of Alessia’s soft snores to be heard.
Swallowing hard, you shuddered as fragments of your latest nightmare floated through your mind.
This one was different from the usual.
This one might have even been the worst.
The nightmare had started off as they typically do, the realistic image of the team’s pitch clear in your mind.
It seemed to be a replay of a normal game day.
Arsenal dressed in their bright red jerseys, your opponents in a shade of blur, all the same but unidentifiable- not like it mattered much anyways- you didn’t need much convincing to feel how real it seemed.
It felt like a normal game day, but you saw yourself in third person, following yourself on the pitch like a drone, able to see each mistake you made so sharply, so distinctly.
You watched in horror as you tripped over your feet. Your heart dropped as you passed the ball directly to the other team. You’re nearly in tears watching as each tackle you made either did nothing or nearly took out the opposing player.
You looked on in fear as the crowd begged for you to be subbed off.
Your own home crowd, cheering any time you lost the ball, any time you slipped and fell, any time you erred.
As much as it hurt each time the dream played out, this was normal to you.
You were used to this.
Used to the sinking feeling in your stomach. The flips it would do as you felt your heart break, the realization that maybe you just didn’t matter, the thought that you didn’t need to exist floating through your mind as your throat closed up.
The sinking feeling as you realized you were unwanted was nothing new.
The knowledge that you just weren’t good enough was basically a mantra ingrained in your mind.
So even though it hurt as if it was new each time, you were used to it.
This was normal, no matter how many times it occurred, night in night out, it had become a part of you.
What wasn’t normal though, was how the game faded away slowly for once, a new environment blurring into your vision, the once typical dream changing drastically.
You tried to shake your head in your mind, very much disoriented at the unfamiliar setting.
You weren’t at the field anymore. The green grass you were always so used to seeing, the one that haunted you now in real life, gone within seconds.
Instead, in its place, was a dark atmosphere, bright lights flashing occasionally as you felt vibrations hum through you rhythmically.
Hearing laughter coming from your left, you whipped your head to the side.
Mere metres away from you stood the rest of your team, all dressed to enjoy a night out, drinks cradled in their hands.
You were at a club.
Chest constricting as you watched the girls peer over at you, then laugh, you felt your face flush, embarrassment seizing your ability to breathe.
Quickly turning around, you searched for Alessia.
Alessia usually made the anxiety go away.
Alessia was safe.
Alessia.
You needed to find her.
Pushing your way through the mass of crowded, faceless bodies crammed in front of you, you tried to look for the blonde.
The further you went though, the smaller you seemed to get.
With each step you were taking, the room seemed to grow in size, the people around you taller, peering judgmentally at you as you pushed through, the faceless partygoers somehow displaying a clear emotion of distaste at your presence.
You could feel your heart beat faster with each second.
Too many people.
You needed to find Alessia.
Too many people.
You couldn’t breathe.
Too many people.
Alessia.
Continuing to push through the mass, air getting harder and harder to breathe, you closed your eyes, blindly moving forward.
Squeezing your way past the final few bodies, you felt yourself stumble as you came across a hallway, the door at the end of it bathed in a dim glow.
Maybe she was there?
Unable to stop yourself, your mind pleading for you to do so but frozen, your feet carried you towards the light.
You wanted to find Alessia.
You needed her right now, and you’d do whatever it took.
Hands shaking at the uneasy feeling in your stomach, you approached the door, fingers reaching out to rest on the door.
Surely Alessia had to be here, right?
You’d soon get your comfort…
Letting out a shaky breath at the thought of finally being okay soon, in the presence of Alessia, you pushed the door open, ready to feel okay, only for your eyes to widen as you felt a lump form in your throat.
No, surely not. No…no…no…
Frozen in your spot, you stared, white as ghost, at the sight in front of you.
There, in the dark room ahead, was Alessia.
Except she wasn’t alone.
Eyes flitting between the blonde and the faceless body in her arms, you felt your world crash.
There she was, your girlfriend, your Alessia, arms wrapped around another person that wasn’t you.
Another person that had their body pressed against hers in a way that was most definitely not friendly, not platonic in the least.
In front of you stood the two, hair dishevelled, their eyes as wide as yours, mouths agape as they realized they’d been caught.
In front of you stood your Alessia, in the arms of another, as you finally felt the ground slip away from beneath you.
~~~
You knew it was just a dream.
You knew she wouldn’t cheat on you.
You knew it.
You believed it.
You felt it, each and every day that she loved you.
Yet, in this moment, darkness bathing you as the silence stretched on, the sinking feeling in your stomach and the way your heart still hadn’t stopped aching since you’d woken up told you otherwise.
Furiously wiping the tears that had fallen from your eyes, you tried to do your best not to sniffle, lest you wake your girlfriend up.
You already had a dream about her cheating- you didn’t want to go and make your night worse by waking her when she so desperately needed her rest.
Doing your best to take deep breaths, you tried to regulate your shaky breathing.
Slowly inhaling and exhaling, you paid keen attention to how much noise you were making with each gasp.
You needed to be quiet- had to be quiet.
She couldn’t see you like this.
No, you wouldn’t let her.
Taking a chance, you slowly turned your head to the side, eyes tracing the faint outline of the striker’s face as you wiped another round of tears on your hands.
Every single fibre in you wanted so desperately to reach out, to be in her hold, to let her soft murmur comfort you like countless times before.
But you couldn’t.
You’d get through this night eventually.
Closing your eyes in frustration at the impending headache you knew was coming, you pressed the heel of your palms harshly to your eyes.
You’d be okay. You’d be okay. You’d be okay.
Repeating the words to yourself, you whined in frustration, unable to find yourself to believe the words.
It was only when your eyes stung due to brute force did you realize what you had just done, freezing as you heard shuffling beside you.
Holding your breath, you felt Alessia’s arm reach out blindly towards you, sleepily patting around, trying to find your body, her even in her sleep ready to take care of you.
You couldn’t have her wake up for you, not again. Not when it’s been multiple nights of her waking up, holding you till the dawn breaks, treating you ever so carefully, so delicately,
Letting go of the breath you were holding as you heard the movement stop, you closed your eyes as more tears of frustration escaped.
How many times- how many fucking times were you going to wake up each night?  Why, why for the love of god, could your mind not be normal?
Flexing your jaw as you tried to force your emotions away, you didn’t see the way Alessia sleepily awoke from beside you.
Mind preoccupied by not waking up the Gunner, you didn’t realize that she had long since been awake, trying to give you the time to collect yourself like she knew you wanted.
In all honesty, the blonde had been up before you had been.
Recent days had oddly trained her to sleep a bit lighter. The combined with hearing your mumbling during your dreams had easily woken her up.
She’d let you be though, well aware that you hated that she woke up each time.
So she laid in silence, doing her best to continue her sleepy state, hoping that the night didn’t get too horrible, that she didn’t have to step in, for your sake.
She stayed awake though, lethargically alert, ready to jump in if needed.
Throat tightening up when she heard your sniffles, the furious movement of your hands as you wiped your tears away quietly pulling at her heart strings, the blonde quietly laid there as you dealt with the storm in your mind.
A stalemate of sorts, an inevitable cycle of hurt.
Slowly but surely though, your sniffles died down, movement slowing as you calmed, initial stabbing pain at the nightmare slowing until it became a dull ache.
It’s then that Alessia chose to take her chances, knowing you were easier to talk to after you had ridden your wave of emotions.
“You think you’re hurting me each time you wake me up, but I don’t think you realize how much it pains me to see you like this…”
The words a near whisper into the darkness, Alessia waited a beat before slowly turning to face you, head resting on her arm as she faced you.
Please let me help you.
The plea went unsaid.
Continuing, the whispered words brought on another round of damp eyes.
“You think you’re protecting me, but if it’s just hurting you more and I care for you, are you really succeeding?”
Let me be there to comfort you.
Feeling her heart start to pound at your silence, Alessia wondered if you’d fallen asleep.
Raising her head to try and decipher whether you were awake, she waited as a beat passed, and then another, both without an inch of movement from you.
Shaking her head at the cruel timing between her speaking and your presumably sleeping state, the blonde opened her mouth to sigh, only to be cut off by your timid voice.
“I hate it enough that I have to go through this…it’s not fair to make you go through it too…”
The shaky admission had the blonde’s breath catching in her throat.
She never once felt forced to be there for you. Never.
The fact that being a burden to her had you holding back so significantly pained her to hear.
If the constricting of her heart at your quiet sobs had hurt, then the admission nearly felt like being stabbed.
You weren’t a burden- not to her. Not now, not ever. She just needed to make sure you knew that. Believed it.
“You’re not making me go through anything. I want to be there for you. I want to be able to hold you through the good nights and the bad. Especially the bad. You aren’t a burden to me…”
Swallowing lightly at the prolonged silence that followed her words, Alessia continued, shuffling closer to you until she was nearly pressed up against your side, only a sliver of space between the two of you.
“You make it seem like me loving you is a burden. That I can love you only when you’re perfect...when you’ve got it all together and don’t need a shoulder to cry on.
I don’t want that though. I don’t want to love you when you’re pristine. I want to love you when the days are dark and it’s raining so hard that you’re confined inside. I want to love you when it’s four pm and you didn’t sleep the night before and you’re grumpy because your coffee’s too cold. I want to love you when you can’t remember what it’s like to be loved. When it’s nearly three am and you’re having a nightmare and you don’t know who to turn to. That’s when I want to love you- when you need it most.”
A silence blanketed the room at the end of Alessia’s admission, only the quiet hum of the electrical wiring to be heard.
Feeling her cheeks heat up but not finding it in herself to care- to be embarrassed- the blonde took her chances.
Slowly letting her arm come to wrap around your midsection, she pulled you close.
With you still laid on your back, the side of your torso pressed up against the striker’s front, your hands gently intertwined as she found where it rested under the sheets, she continued.
“Not waking me won’t do either of us good. Yes, you could deal with it on your own, but you don’t have to, okay? I want to be there for you. I want to hold you when things get tough. I want to love you. You just need to let me do that…”
Feeling you nod in response, she moved to place a gentle kiss on your forehead.
Moving to lay on her back as she felt you turn towards her, the Gunner opened her arms in an easy welcome, gathering you in her embrace as you sank into her comfort.
Whispering a quiet ‘thank you’ at your understanding, she wondered out loud if you wanted to talk about it.
A quiet but firm ‘no’ escaping your lips, she nodded her head in understanding as ran her hand through your hair.
If you didn’t want to talk, so be it- as long as you let her love you, take care of you, hold you, it didn’t matter.
As long as you felt loved, because you very much were if Alessia had anything to say about it.
Hands coming to wrap strongly around you, you sighing contently at the warmth as you felt the tiredness of the past hour catch up with you, the pair of you drifted off into a dreamless sleep, Alessia’s last tiredly whispered sentence ringing reassuringly, protectively in your mind as the tension in your shoulder eased.
"It's easy to love you on your good days, but I want to love you on your worst. On the days you don't believe in love and don't think you deserve it, it's when I want to love you most. 'Cause I'll love you through all of them, now and forever, if you let me."
'If I could change the way that you see yourself, you wouldn’t wonder why you hear ‘they don’t deserve you'"
Parallels to the war in heaven
We know that the paintball battle is supposed to be a reenactment of the war in heaven.
Newt is Crowley's analogue, and Newt has just gotten a NEW job as a low level clerk and is asking weird, basic questions of another low level employee--he's saying he can't do simple things the way they want them done. In analogy, Crowley must have been promoted or somehow infiltrated the upper admin to try to get info about/stop the planned shut down of the universe. But he was caught, aka Newt was fired after blowing the power. I think Crowley may have found some way to kill miracle power, if we interpret Newt killing all power literally: angels run on miracle power, and they can't delete creation if they don't have the miracles to do it with.
This means Crowley was not high ranking originally. I think what people are reading as deference and respect isn’t about Crowley's assumed high rank, it's just Aziraphale's innate kindness. Perhaps Aziraphale was higher ranking, but I don't think that fits either because he doesn't have an analogue I can identify in the paintball war among all the high admin.
I don’t think angel ranks used to be about how much power an angel was created with, barring possibly Lucifer/Satan. Crowley clearly has a lot of power, but if he wasn't high ranking then ranks can't have been 1:1 about raw power. Hell's respect for Crowley is because he tried to spy on admin to prevent the war that none of them wanted, to stop the destruction of the universe that all of Lucifer's/hell's side was trying to prevent, to protect something they loved. To protect them all. If he was an original archangel, perhaps they got to choose their rank, and he didn't want to be admin, instead doing engineering. Perhaps there weren't ranks below the top admin, and the sleeve decorations denoted type or raw power instead of rank.
I haven’t figured out who Aziraphale is yet in the office parallels, if he’s even there. Perhaps Newt's mother sending him off to his job is Aziraphale's analogue? That would explain why he's not in the war itself, and also why both of them were taken out "early" (ie the ineffables getting shot just as they enter the manor) if they both got caught infiltrating admin. It also means that, since they were shot by opposing sides, hell didn't know Aziraphale was helping Crowley. Newt's mother has a dark green/blue sweater over a dark green dress with white and brown decoration; that's probably death and god's game, which fits Crowley the angel being replaced with Crowley the demon, followed with Aziraphale's usual cognitive acrobatics thinking surely god must want her creations protected. Newt has a dark graybrown suit, white shirt, and tie is red, yellow, grayblue, brown, cream. That’s motivation of the rules and some combo of spying with fate/choice, and the tie is anger/fear plus defiance, spying for defense of life, fate, and bending the rules. His dark green plant means he's part of god's game; their backdrop is light brown bricks, meaning their plan was a choice, not fate. The white box his plant is in tells us that Crowley honestly thought he was doing the right thing to save creation. He was also reluctant to go to this job, he didn't think it would work out, so Crowley was doing this as a last ditch effort because this was better than the alternative. He wanted it to work, he believed, but he was already disillusioned by this time. What had already happened to make him that way? Or had he learned from Aziraphale how things actually go down?
We don’t see the paintball war going on before the ineffables show up at the manor. As they roll up, Aziraphale says the place is loved; I think this is saying that before the war, heaven as a place was loved, and love was abundant. But….how does that track with knowing that there was fear and authoritarianism long before that? Maybe it wasn’t the reality of it or god who was loved (or she was, and they didn't realize her nature yet), but how angel Crowley loved it–the way it could be, the way he wanted it to be, and presumably how Lucifer's side wanted things. Love between each other, before disagreements got entrenched. The war could have been over defending that idea against the growing authoritarianism, not about who should get to be dictator, as traditional christian myth says.
The paintball fight is yellow flags using blue paint, and red flags using yellow. The rebellion side is Lucifer’s side, that’s the yellow people. Norman Weathered is Lucifer–the guy who suggests the “training initiative” ie the war. "Norman Weathered" as a name means northman which biblically refers to either Babylon or the north star; Lucifer can be read as being the "north star" ie the morningstar. Weathered is "tender of rams".
The first time we see him in the office, he’s got a blue/white pinstripe shirt and his tie looks dark red, pinstripe black suit. Can’t see the pattern. Black coffee cup. This means he’s driven by respect for life and the rules, plus love, but he’s hiding all this presumably because despite being the highest archangel, half of heaven doesn’t like that he's speaking out against god.
I think the black coffee cup means that he's hiding something about what he's saying: perhaps he's pushing for the fight and using it or "the rules" as cover to get rid of his opponents in order to protect creation: willing to kill to protect life. I do not think it can be due to wanting to rule, despite that being the traditional accusation, because he would not have a dark red tie. Perhaps that's what the blue and white stripe shirt means more abstractly: he interprets the rules as protecting life, not dominating it, but he's willing to defend it with whatever it takes. During the fight we see his tie is actually bright red, with blue and white flower-looking things. Looks like the same type of flower as is on Metatron’s tie. That his tie goes from looking dark to bright red means he didn’t actually want war, that he was forced into it, just as we see Norman doing: if they want war, we'll give them war.
Yellow with blue ammunition is Lucifer's side saying life matters and that defiance is worth defending it, against Gabriel's red with yellow ammunition side saying Lucifer's defiance matters and using war to enforce that. Thus the war was actually not something god wanted at all: the only orange is on Frobisher, who represents Michael, and ended the war. Since most of them are wearing dark green and dark brown camo, that means the war was part of god's game aka the ineffable plan and it was fate: it wasn't planned per se, but it was fate that the angels would fight over something. God deliberately set them up, engineered it, because she created them as they are. But again, neither side was “hers”, her representatives, even though Gabriel's claimed they are because they won. That was retcon. All winners claim to have god's hand: it seems like god was already not talking to anyone as far back as the pre-fall, perhaps even as far back as immediately after planning creation, and we know this because Janice Evanson in the office says she put in a complaint to HR, ie God, trying to prevent the paintball game. God clearly does nothing.
Janice Evanson means "gift from god, the lord is gracious/favor this child". She's on team yellow. She has a very light blue/green shirt with black and brown designs, I'm going to call that a version of aqua, ie both blue and green: marked as the game and life. The black and brown designs mean she's only slightly dissembling when she's trying to stop the war, and she's exercising free choice to do so: perhaps she doesn't want war only because war is wrong or it's annoying. Janice could be Furfur, who in s2 complains to the dark council about Crowley, which fits Janice complaining to HR about the other employees. That's the wrong season though so it's unlikely. She may be Dagon, purely because when Newt arrives he asks about the wages database, so this group deals with those files, and Dagon is lord of files.
Louisa Blatt "famous dove warrior", is the woman Newt talks to who wears pearls and a black sweater over a white shirt during the fight. She is probably Beelzebub, because Louisa tells Janice that she doesn't trust the people from the other team, which is what Beez says of Michael during Crowley's trial in hell. If she is, then Beelzebub being "favored" and "a gift from god" is a radical statement about hell's denizens: this is who they were before the fall; they're not damned for losing, which we already knew from heaven's winning side not being god's agents. I had originally thought she was Uriel, but she's on team yellow, so unless some of the rebels weren't tossed to hell--which is something the authors would do--that doesn't fit. The name doesn't fit with Uriel's "god is my flame/light of god" though so I don't think that's likely for this character. Beez has an orange sash in s1, so I think her being Louisa with the pearls fits.
The red side is the establishment, Gabriel's. Gabriel is Nigel Tompkins, the guy who announces the paintball in the office and runs up to the ineffables at the manor. Nigel Tomkins means "little twin champion"; traditionally, Gabriel, Michael, and Lucifer were twins/triplets. The first time we see him in the office, his shirt is white with a dark red tie, black suit, bright red coffee cup. That means he's a stickler for the rules and also doing things out of love: there was indeed love present in heaven before the war, just as Aziraphale said "this place is loved". As we see in present-day heaven though, it completely lacks love, because authoritarianism won. Nigel is speaking for war though, hence the bright red cup.
Michael is Frobisher, "warrior", the woman who calls newt a dick and is the one who shoots Norman. Traditionally she's the one who casts Lucifer down to hell. She’s in light browns during the fight, so her taking down Lucifer was her own choice, not fate. They didn’t have to force them to hell. Presumably whatever happened to force the change of name from Satan to Lucifer is what "shooting Norman" is referring to, and that's what this choice means: that wasn't fate, wasn't planned, and was entirely the angels' idea. Michael either is or used to be favored by god before the war, due to Frobisher's dark orange hair; dark orange indicated negative change, throwing a wrench in the works, as opposed to positive things with neon orange like saving Job's kids. Negative change, as in creating hell and eternal fights.
Frobisher has a pink shirt; the only other times we've seen pink are on sex workers, Tracey and Mrs Sandwich, both BDSM doms. It seems Michael either has a side gig or has been domming demons since pre-fall. In s2, Michael and Dagon seem to have a history as Dagon makes faces at Michael, which Michael shakes her head at to indicate "now is not the time". If Janice is indeed Dagon, then perhaps in s3 Michael and Dagon will be next to jump ship like Gabriel and Beez did: Janice didn't want the war, and Michael has been seeing them since before the war which is the reason Beez jumped ship in s2. Perhaps that's part of why Michael was so insistent on becoming the next supreme archangel, to gain that freedom.
Crowley did change the guns from harmless paintball to real guns though, which I think means that god intervened to up the ante: perhaps the angels didn't originally attempt to kill each other, but god gave them something in the middle of the fight that each side may have interpreted as the other deliberately doing: "they wanted war", when it was actually god doing it for her own amusement. Was it changing one side to demons so that halo bombs would be deadly? Was it inventing hellfire and holy water too, so each side had a weapon? Given the halo s2 reference to the war, I think that might be it--god made the Fall happen either before or halfway through the battle because "they wanted to be kill each other, so she gave them what they wanted". It was originally just a moral argument about what silent god wanted, but then god made it so they could die. And blamed it on them to wash her hands, as if she wasn't inventing murder. No wonder Gabriel's side thought that meant God was on their side, and against Lucifer's. But if there's an equal number of angels and demons in present day, then there must have been way more on Lucifer's side to start with if halos can permanently discorporate demons. And if there were way more, then god would be forced to introduce death to make that fight equal, to make it entertaining. The war would have ended everything for her. Can't be having that.
In s2, there's another war parallel in the attack on the bookshop. Perhaps not all the demons and angels went to war, if the availability of the demons is an indicator, and if we read the humans as angels who sat out the battle. Only two humans stayed behind, and very few demons got assigned to go on attack--this fits with the idea that there must have been a lot more demons on Lucifer's side than angels on Gabriel's. I think god must have intervened so that Lucifer wouldn't win, in order to keep her game going, so that there would still be two sides to continue fighting: if that's true, then some demons could have fallen for no reason, depending on how she divided it up. Crowley wasn't one of them though, there was a reason, even though the reason was fascist.
I think the paintball war is how things happened from hell's perspective, and the bookshop attack is how it happened from heaven's perspective. That may be why it comes off so lopsided in the bookshop. I do think there were more on Lucifer's side, but I don't think they were all fighting--much as with the paintball fight, I think they were evenly matched, and god nerfed Lucifer. We see things from Lucifer's team POV, but we aren't shown the other team. In the bookshop, we see things from Aziraphale's POV, aka heaven's, and we don't really see much of the demons' while they're there.
( another ‘lovely’ valentine’s day surprise )
Sometimes, genius truly was a burden. How did he plan to top last year’s Valentine’s Day catastrophe? There was always the option to let last year become nothing more than a one-off gag, but where was the fun in that? It would go against everything he stood for to pass up the opportunity to make Lucia see red again! No, this year he would pull out all of the stops, and this time he would go bigger.
Of course, part of any good psychological torture was getting into the target’s mind. Lucia would undoubtedly be on edge that entire day, waiting for some nonsense to happen as she worked. So let some hours go by. And a few more. And some more after that. All the way until the last half hour of work, right when the woman would be beginning to think that maybe she had managed to escape un-Ven-ned this year.
The perfect time for him to strike.
Lucia would hear the commotion slowly approaching her desk, coworkers likely also already caught on to what seemed like was quickly becoming a yearly tradition, until the clamor grew and grew. Finally, the woman would catch sight of a massive lump of fur moving towards her, making its way through aisles and desks, until a larger than life teddy bear was wheeled in to her by a grinning delivery man.
“Delivery!” The man called out, the smile on his face making it clear that he was certain that he was delivering some grand romantic gesture.
And then there, popping out from behind the bear, sharply dressed in a tux and with a box of his own in his arms, the mastermind’s grin was downright diabolical.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Coniglietta!” Popping open the box to reveal the dozens of roses and messaging inside, Ven shot Lucia a giddy wink. “You didn’t think I would forget you today, did you? I’ve even got dinner reservations for us once you get off of work.”
Tumblr media
Rich. Decadent. Everything she could have hoped for in an evening cup of coffee as the women veered off the topic at hand. One after another, Rosalina continued to swipe. Face after face loading but nothing caught Lucia’s attention. “This is a complete waste of time.” Eyes roll when her friend huffs with displeasure. Honestly, how many times did she have to go over this? Between her current case and going undercover for Rosalina, there is little time to just … well, ‘have fun’ as the other put it.
At least the source of her headache was nowhere to be seen. A miracle, she had to admit, was surprising in itself as the time went by but who knows, maybe he found someone else to torment –
Tumblr media
“Oh come on! What about this one?”
“For the love of – Rosa, just let it go.” An exasperated sigh fell from her lips as the mug was lowered back against the desk. Stack of files with numerous notes nearly covering the entire surface alongside the small notepad. Tip of her pen continued to tap along the tempo of her heel. “Besides, we still haven’t figured out how to exactly get rid of that damn tail.”
Fingers rub at her temples. Violet eyes skimming over the notes she made but something wasn’t adding up. The names listed … – Teeth bite on her lower lip. Her body leaning forward as she continued to watch Rosalina swipe but none of it registered. No, she is too preoccupied with the issue at hand. In the back of her mind, a whisper utters to look in a box. One she long buried away but … –
“I wonder what’s going on.”
The women glance up as the noise grew louder. Bodies outside her office standing up with their attention in the same direction. Was there an unruly suspect being dragged in? Multiple? Maybe a large drug bust? Or –
Tumblr media
“Oh this is gonna be good.”
Dread quickly filled her chest. Hands pressing on the edge of her desk as the chair is pushed back. The smirk on Rosalina’s face. The way her shoulders shook from the laughter she failed at containing. Sight sweeps across the women outside, their expressions alight with … –
“I swear if it’s him, I’m going to –”
Cream tuft filled the entire threshold of her office. Plush so nearly overflowing from the cart that barely fit into the corner. Even Rosalina was forced aside, whistling as a hand fell to her hip. Curious and nosy eyes gathered close to listen. Too many conversations. Too much noise that Lucia could barely hear her thoughts as he popped out from behind practically dressed to the nines in … in a tuxedo?!
“Dinner huh? – No wonder you’re rejecting all my choices.”
Scratch that: she was going to kill Ven and Rosalina.
Tumblr media
“What choice are you talking about?!” Tone shakes with anger as cheeks burn from the humiliation. Her entire frame shaking with disbelief. “And you –” Oh god, almost the entire office was watching! The rumors. The advice seeking. Just – Ugh, why, why, why?! Lucia quickly moved around her desk to drag him inside with a quick slam of her door. Her heart racing too fast  that she wondered if any oxygen was making it to her brain at this point.
A large teddy bear. No – large is putting it mildly! For fuck’s sake, that thing probably took up the entire passenger side of a damn car! And his outfit … – Not to mention the entire case full of roses! Lucia couldn’t believe it. Refused to accept the sight but there he was, grinning with the widest smirk. Probably glowing on the inside!
“You’ve got to be kidding me!”
“Hey, at least he’s offering dinner this time.”
“T-That’s not the point here!”
First of all damn, thank God that your sister is ok. I read your post and then saw the part of the accident but then I read she didn't suffer anything serious (besides obviously getting in the accident but well yeah) besides maybe the trauma because it must be a freaking thing to happen
Second, wow your town sounds nuts, like wtf really, but I think those things happen everywhere, damn those drivers that run after sh*t happen. You live on the usa? Or I am confusing? Well at least you don't live in my country (Mexico be like), but those things can happen everywhere really (but where all those sober drivers? Or fucking alcoholic little sh*ts). It haven't happened to me but it can be very scary.
I hope everything is alright men, sending you good luck and happy wishes
SS signing out '-'/
awww thnx for the happy wishes and good luck, SS anon <33.
(´・` )♡
And yeah my town.....is really interesting in the fact that is seems like the kind of place (like in a video game or something) where you go for really boring and tedious side-quests.
And then all of a sudden a bunch of really crazy sh*t will happen --- and then the town is back to being quiet, peaceful, and unsuspecting lmaooo.
Like what is it,,, a while back some dude with a gun went driving around just randomly shooting people?? I only heard about it like the morning after but wow.
And yeah car accidents do happen everywhere lol :')). And yeah I live in the US of A. And yeah most of those accidents where drunk drivers. #sheeeEEESHHHHH.
I've only ever been in two car accidents in my entire life. (1) when I was an infant and my mom was on the highway (during winter) and some maniac drove her off the road and then ran; and then she had flag down a car for help/to catch a ride (even tho that can be maddddd dangerous)
because she had infant me + my older sister (who would've been like 3) at the time and they were stranded on the highway. In the middle of winter. (Things turned out alright, and none of us were hurt, and since I was an infant I obv did not remember this lol)
So that car accident last July was wild o:.
But we're all good <33. Thnx (again) for the luck and happy wishes
I liked the one about a ghost MC it was a really cute idea! I wanted to request something similar, where the MC who has a the appearance of the Japanese slit mouthed woman. She is a regular human and you can decide if she got the scar's from an accident or not, but she always where's a face mask to hide it and eats alone rather then with the brothers. When she's asked why they say "People can't eat when I they see my face." But one day she finally trusts the brothers enough to show her face.
OH MY GOD I KNOW THIS GHOST. If I'm not wrong, this ghost is called the Kuchisake Onna, kuchi meaning mouth.
This is so wholesome I love it. Your asks are so adorable :')
Tumblr media
It has been forever since the accident. And yet the scar makes it feel like yesterday. Two scars running up towards your cheeks, making it look like you're constantly smiling. You hated mirrors at this point, without your mask especially.
You hear loud talking from the dining room downstairs as you stare at your meal on your study table. When was the last time you ate a meal with other people?
"What do you mean you won't eat with us MC?" Mammon and Asmo parotted every other day.
"People can't eat when they see my face." You left with that reply, refusing to answer the follow up questions.
Yours was a face only a mother could love, they said. Some screamed, some smiled sympatheticallly, the others nervously scattered away from the last time you tried to eat out by yourself. The restaurant requested you to leave since they were losing customers.
You walk up to the stairway, watching the brothers in their usual chaos. Maybe - just maybe, they won't be repulsed. Surely they've seen more horrifying things than you?
"Um..." You cleared your throat loudly. All of them stopped and looked at you. You usually never showed up until half an hour after meals.
But today you called out to the one of them. "Would you mind eating with me tonight...?"
Lucifer
"Of course I wouldn't mind MC."
He promptly got up with his plate as if he was already prepped for this day. Swiftly follows you into your room.
He sat down across you and began eating normally. "Thank you for inviting me in MC. To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Nothing just..." You said untying your mask. "It felt like a good day." The mask fell off your face into your lap.
You paused and stared at Lucifer. He only looked shocked for a split second before a hidden rage clouded beneath his eyes. "Did someone deliberately-"
"No it was an accident. I was getting my teeth fixed when the lights went out and I moved. And something cut through my- well you can see." You explained.
"I see. Well that's quite unfortunate." Lucifer said and began picking at his plate.
You felt uneasy as chewed your food."You can leave if you feel repulsed. I wouldn't force you to-"
"No such thing MC. I was just thinking of consulting Satan and Solomon. Surely they know of spells that can heal your scars if you want them gone." Lucifer replied promptly. "And it's going to take a lot more than scars to scare us demons away."
"Lucifer...thank you." You said quietly.
"If possible I'd like to eat dinner with you from now on, MC. Frankly it's much calmer and it's a relief from my brothers."
After a long time, you laugh without your mask on.
Mammon
"I'll be right there, MC!"
Hurriedly grabs whatever food he has making a mess and jumps to his feet. He is in such a hurry, it's a miracle he didn't drop half of his dinner.
He plops down across the table from you, grinning ear to ear. "Of course you'd choose the Great Mammon to eat with ya!"
You nodded and chuckled, "Of course. But would you choose to eat with me?" Your pulled your mask away from your face.
His eyes went wide and then watery in the same instant. Is he..crying? "I-Im sorry..." You feel horrible so you hurry and tie the mask back up. Mammon grabs your hands and holds them down.
"I'm not crying stupid human! I'm just...you..you must have been in pain..when that happened." He said. "Who did this to you..."
"It's okay it was an accident, Mammon." You try to calm him down.
"Then why do you hide it? It's not even your fault!" Mammon said pouting. You looked down, "People get uncomfortable..."
Mammon shot up from his chair. "WHO DARE MAKE YOU FEEL BAD ABOUT IT? Show me I'll get them all! Noone messes with my human! I'm yer protector ain't I?! You never have to wear that thing around me!"
You blushed as he moved forward and hugged you, burying your face into his shoulder. "Mammon..."
You knew he was the best protector out there.
Leviathan
"I'm coming right away, don't worry MC!"
Stumbles around with his plate at your sudden invitation. His day has come. He is the chosen one.
He struggles to sit down, feeling estatic and nervous at the same time. "I didn't think you'd want to eat with me of all people, MC..."
"After tonight, maybe you'll feel that way about me Levi..." You said, taking off your mask. His face lit up as he let out a loud "Woahhh!"
Thinking he was scared you tried to hide it again before he screamed, "MC you look just like my favourite character from that horror romance anime "I fell for my best friend's scarred smile! That's so cool!"
You blink at him, blushing. What is with him and his oddly specific anime names!? Levi was oblivious to your shock ,going off at his own tangent. "You could pull off the perfect cosplay, come to my room tomorrow I can design it for you and then I'll make my own to go with it and we can go to the next convention-"
"Levi Levi calm down you'll run out of breath!" You couldn't hold in your laughter.
He stared at you awestruck,"So cute...why would you hide that cute face MC?" You shake your head, "Not everyone sees it as cute Levi."
"Well sucks for them to be such stupid normies." Levi blushed and scoffed.
Levi was the best friend everyone deserves and you were glad to have him.
Satan
"I'd be delighted to join you MC."
Was slightly taken aback at first but quickly composes himself and his dinner and follows you. His pace faster than usual.
Pulls out your chair for you like a gentleman and sits down himself. You smile and blush at the action. "So how was your day MC?" He asks like a gentleman, avoiding the elephant in the room, choosing it normalise it. You let the mask fall off your face.
"Oh..." Satan sat up straight, his shoulders stiff, his eyes going wide in anger. "Who dared to-"
"No no no Satan it was an accident!" You had to explain the whole thing for him to calm down. Then he nodded and held out his palm. "May I see how the deep the scar is MC?"
That was new. Noone has wanted to touch your scars before. When you nod, he reaches out and runs his fingers softly across your scars. "Hmm don't worry. They're not too deep. I can have them gone in a matter of days. That is if you'd like to me to."
It's like he knew. As much as you hated that scar, it kind of helped you see people's true intentions. You looked down unsure. Satan held your hand. "It's normal to get attached to scars you have for too long. None of us here will treat you any differently with or without it."
You smiled at him and held one of his fingers playfully. He laughed, his cheeks turning pink. "Ah now that's a smile I'd love to see everyday. May I have dinner with you more often MC?"
"Of course." His words and his presence were always calming to you.
Asmodeus
"I was wondering when you'd ask MC!"
Daintily picks up all of things and paces after you. He was excited but he restrained himself but he didn't want to scare you off.
Sits down close to you, smiling gleefully. He's just happy to be there with you. Grabs something off your plate with a fork and holds it upto your mouth. "MC come here let me feed you!"
It was probably the most nerve wracking to open your mask in front of him. The Avatar of Lust, the most beautiful being in Hell, and you- ugh, what's the point? You've come this far, let's get it over with. You put your mask down, bite off the potato off his fork.
You'd think Asmo would probably gasp and act all dramatic and hysterical. But instead he cupped your face, his eyes filled with worry and tenderness. "MC how long have you had this...?"
"A little over three years." You answered honestly. Asmo looked like he was about to cry. "You've been hiding away your pretty face from people for three years..." Asmo pulled you in a hug. "Noone deserves that. It's too lonely."
"Oh I'd hardly call it pretty-" Before you can even retort, he is glaring and pouting at you, holding your shoulders.
"I think I know beauty a little better than you, MC. And I say you're gorgeous and I'm going to eat with you everyday now." Asmo huffed to which you laughed.
Everyone deserves a hypeman like Asmo in their lives.
Beelzebub
"Oh? Me? Sure MC!"
Is surprised but happily goes along with you with all his food. You know he loves you when he gets midway from eating just to eat in your room.
He sits across, already muching away at his food. "Thank you for asking me to eat with you MC." You nod and tentatively take your mask off, trying not to draw too much attention for it.
Beel looks up shocked, his mouth full of food but he stopped chewing. He involuntarily reaches out to touch you, "Does it hurt MC?"
You shake your head. "It's years old Beel. It's okay. " Beel looks genuinely relieved at that and goes back to eating again. He doesn't seem bothered by it at all after that.
"Say MC will you be free next week? I could use your help in the new workout I'm doing. I need to train particular muscles for the big game they said." He switched to a whole new topic just like that. "Also this means I get to eat with you every day right?"
You felt warm inside. You were more than just your scar and Beel made you feel like that by hardly saying anything at all.
Belphegor
"...me huh? No I wouldn't mind."
Has a smug grin on his face as he gathers up his meal and slowly heads upward with you, making sure his brothers see how you chose him over the others. Cheeky cow.
He sits leaning into you cause he's too lazy to sit up straight. "So what's the special occasion MC? A face reveal?" Wow this one is direct.
He is staring right at you, as you pull off the mask slowly, thinking if it was a bad idea. His eyes grow wide for a split second before his fingers are already near your mouth feeling the scars.
"Deliberate or accident?" He asks. "Accident." You answer. He nods, "Good. I'm too tired today, wouldn't be able to take appropriate revenge." His fingers never leave your face.
"Is that why you keep it covered? You're embarrassed of it?" He asks. You think about it for a while. "I think I accepted it, it just seemed to make people uncomfortable and scared, if I smiled or opened my mouth to eat." You answer.
He smirked. "Then smile more. Let their cowardly selves feel uncomfortable. It's their problem that they can't see how cute your smile is."
That was surprisingly thoughtful. You smiled at him. "Thanks..."
He smirked back, "Also I'm going to be eating here from now on. My brothers annoy me."
He's cheeky but he has a good heart. Smiling never felt so easy.
Note
we've got this one customer who comes in 5 minutes before closing almost every single day and stays until 10-15 minutes after closing. we're all fed up with it but none of us feel safe telling him to leave because he has a gun and you never know when someone will snap. so one day he's there past close as usual, has already finished checking out and everything but he's talking to me about some inane thing or other and making no move to leave. i would love to tell him to leave, or even just ignore him and start cleaning, but again *i dont want to be shot* so i'm kind of forced to play along. then as he's standing there talking to me one of the night shift workers comes in. he turns to her, looks at his watch, looks at me, and says "aren't yall closed?" WHY YES WE ARE, THANK YOU FOR NOTICING! i say "yes sir we are, she works here." he looks over at her, then back to me, then shrugs and says "well if she can be here, i can be here." it's honestly a miracle i didn't get myself shot that day.
Of All The Angels & Demons.
Tumblr media
Characters: Reader, Aziraphale, Crowley - all platonic
Warning: None.
Summary: You came to Aziraphale for an update on Armageddon - you got a meeting with a demon instead.
Walking into the bookstore after the last human had left, you waltzed in ready to question the white-haired angel on the status of his “stopping Armageddon” plan when your throat ran dry at the sight of a certain demon relaxing on the small couch.
“Seriously, Aziraphale?” You sighed. “Crawley?”
The demon who was lazily sipping his alcohol scowled at the mispronunciation of his name.
“It’s Crowley and will you liven up a little? Honestly, you’re like a wound up harp. Keep going on like this and you’re bound to snap a string or two.”
If you could choke the demon with feathers, you would. But alas, you were on the side of the angels which meant that the most you could do was shatter the glass in his hand.
Aziraphale jumped but Crowley remained unfazed. In fact, he smirked.
“Angel with a temper - that’s dangerous, that is.” He remarked.
The halo-bearing bookstore owner let out a tsk at the mess over his floor and began to reprimand.
“Oh, look at this mess! Y/n, you need to be mindful of that rage. It’s most unsettling for such a bright angel.” He said and then softened his tone. “You mustn’t be tempted by Crowley. He’s only trying to help.”
“Tempted?” You frowned. “I’m not the one who has been fraternising with the other side.”
Aziraphale looked slightly bashful, “I wasn’t- this isn’t-”
“Aziraphale, I‘ve tried to keep you out of trouble and turn a blind eye to your ‘plan’ but if you keep working with a demon then I’ll have no choice but to report you to Michael.”
Crowley took a stand and, at some point during your conversation, had found himself a new alcoholic beverage.
“Now, hang on a minute. I thought you had wings and not taddle-tails?” He caught your scowl and raised his hands in defence. “Look, we’re just trying to stop something worse than bad from happening. Despite our collective differences, we like this planet. You do too! I mean, where else will you be able to get a Double Ristretto Venti Half-Soy Nonfat Decaf Organic Chocolate Brownie Iced Vanilla Double-Shot Gingerbread Frappuccino Extra Hot With Foam Whipped Cream Upside Down Double Blended with ice?”
You stared at the demon with the absurd order, “I’ve literally never ordered that.”
“Well, I have and it’s fantastic. The chaos it ensues that is, not the drink. The drink needs a dash of a miracle.”
As much as you hated Crowley, he was making a valid point. The end of the world would force you to lose all the things about humanity that you loved. As you slowly warmed up to the idea of working with him, Aziraphale appeared to have caught onto the change of heart.
“Oh, you could really help speed this along, Y/n.” He said sweetly. “Won’t you help us?”
Aziraphale frustrated you the most of all the angels because he was so incredibly delicate. He had a special charm that made it difficult for you to refuse the halo-top.
“Fine.” You sighed. “I’ll see what I can do.”
Clapping his hands, Aziraphale let out a laugh of glee.
Crowley raised a glass and shot you a wink, “Let’s get this party started. First thing’s first, we need to find the Antichrist...”
hey! i love your zuko fics so much and was wondering if you’d like to write this, because the idea just popped up: maybe a zuko x reader fluff that takes place before/during LOK? maybe they’re reminiscing about their past adventures w the Gaang while helping out the new Team Avatar? idk it’s just that every time I see old zuko it makes me soft and emotional 🥲🔥❤️ anyways, much love! (and don’t feel pressured to do this at all, I was just thinking abt who I could submit this request to, and obvi my first choice was you 💕)
reminiscence - zuko x fem!reader
summary: just because you and your husband are retired doesn’t mean you don’t have amazing advice for the new team avatar.
a/n: this is so cute omg!! thank you so much for requesting this and thank you for much for your kind words i'm honored <33 im so sorry this took so long
sorry im posting so much lately im trying to stop slacking and publish things that have been wips for over a month sdkjfh
wc: 1.3k
warning(s): none bc i choose to ignore the news of zaheer’s plan right after this scene
-
Retirement was… nice.
You had spent your childhood fighting with the Avatar to end the Hundred Year War, a feat that was only made more difficult with your Fire Nation roots and connection to the banished prince. But all that’s well ends well, and you ended up getting your happy ending together — you had to fight hard for it, though.
You married Zuko at nineteen, three years after he ascended to the throne, and spent the subsequent years balancing your duties as Fire Lady and taking care of your daughter. Ruling the Fire Nation was a lot, but you knew you could get through anything with your husband at your side.
When he told you his plans to abdicate the throne, you were more than supportive. One of Zuko’s biggest fears was becoming his father, and by giving up his position willingly to Izumi, it guaranteed that he wouldn’t fall victim to the power-obsessed ways of his ancestors. It also gave him a well-deserved break after decades of being Fire Lord, and you were more than ready to get out of the world of Fire Nation politics. You had sat through enough meetings to fill multiple lifetimes.
But just because the two of you weren’t as involved in every day affairs of the world didn’t mean that you were completely out of it. No, that was far from the truth. You and Zuko were still some of the most important people in all of the nations, which meant it wasn’t a rare occurrence for your husband to be called off on some sort of mission.
One such mission was stopping the Order of the Red Lotus for the second time; Zuko had been part of the team that stopped them from kidnapping Avatar Korra as a child, so it was no surprise that he had been called to help for a second time. You knew even in his old age that your husband was powerful, but you couldn’t help but feel concerned about everything he was doing.
This concern was ultimately what led you to join Zuko on his trip to meet with Chief Beifong and Chief Tonraq in the Misty Palms Oasis. He had originally been against your involvement, claiming that the Red Lotus was far too dangerous, and he didn’t want to risk you getting injured in any way. You, of course, weren’t having it. “The Avatar’s in trouble, and I’d like to think I know a few things about getting out of trouble.”
One thing was certain after you arrived — it had been far too long since you had ridden on the back of a dragon. You truly adored Druk, and you felt bad for everyone that would never have the opportunity.
After conversing with Lin and Tonraq inside, you all exited to greet the new Team Avatar. If what you were told was true, then they had been through quite a lot since leaving Zaofu. For as long as you had been involved in foreign affairs, you had never met Avatar Korra nor her friends, so you didn’t know what to expect — an awestruck boy that could barely speak wasn’t at the top of your list though.
“Oh my gosh. It’s Lord Zuko and Lady Y/N. I can’t believe it!” He stared at the two of you with wide eyes, his voice getting higher and higher as he whimpered. He looked like he was going to fall over until another black-haired boy pulled him out of the way, his tone apologetic.
“Uh, forgive my brother,” he said as he put his fist against his open palm, his brother following suit. “We’re just really honored to meet you both.”
“It’s no problem,” you smiled as you and Zuko returned the greeting. It had been years since someone had reacted that way towards you, and you would be lying if you said it didn’t amuse you. “It’s a pleasure to meet you as well.”
The two boys straightened again as the taller one gestured to them each in turn. “I’m Mako, and this is Bolin. We’re Korra’s friends.”
“Ah, she’s got her own Team Avatar?” You inquired with a twinkle in your eye. “You know, I traveled with Avatar Aang years back along with my husband.”
“Of course I know!” Bolin exclaimed. “Oh, I’ve heard so many stories about your adventures, they’re all so amazing!” His eyes widened and you actually thought that he was going to fall over. “Oh, oh, could you tell us about some of the things you went through?”
“Bolin, we really shouldn’t bother them—” Mako started, but you laughed and waved it off.
“I assure you, there’s nothing to worry about. It’s not often I get to relive my journeys to such avid listeners. What would you like to hear about?”
He thought for a couple seconds then shot back up again. “What was it like when you escaped the Boiling Rock together? You guys were the first people to ever break out, right? That had to be amazing!”
You and Zuko both laughed as you shot him a look. “It was… interesting,” he said.
“By interesting, he means it was a complete disaster,” you corrected. “Everywhere something could’ve gone wrong, it went wrong. They had originally come there to rescue Sokka’s dad, but instead they found Suki and I. Then Zuko got found out and thrown into prison, our first escape plan failed, Sokka almost got found out, Azula showed up… it was honestly a miracle we made it out at all.”
“It wasn’t that bad!” he protested. “Getting thrown into prison was part of the plan, we wouldn’t have been able to get the cooler out if I hadn’t been found out.”
“I guess I can’t complain,” you chuckled. “I did get to punch you a couple times.”
“They are so cool,” Bolin whispered as the two of you went on in the background. He elbowed Mako in the shoulder and gestured towards the couple with his head. “Come on, ask them something! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity!”
“I’m not going to ask them something, Bolin—”
“Excuse me, my brother has something he wants to ask too!” Mako shot him a dirty look which quickly disappeared when you and Zuko turned to him attentively.
“Oh, um…” He coughed and scratched his head. “I guess.. is there any advice you have for us? With this whole Team Avatar thing, I mean.” You smiled at Mako and took Zuko’s hand.
“The friendships you forge during your journey are the most important thing — they’re the things that will keep you going during your darkest moments, and they will last a lifetime. There will be mountains and valleys, ebbs and flows, but no matter what, you will hold an unbreakable bond.”
You felt Zuko squeeze your hand and turned your smile on him as you returned the sentiment then nodded for him to continue. “Never take anything for granted, and trust in fate. You’re where you are for a reason — everything will end up working out in the end.”
You grinned and kissed him on the cheek, humming in agreement. “It did, didn’t it?”
-
After a few more minutes of talking with the two brothers, they went off to join the rest of their group. It was strange being on the outside of it all after how intense your childhood was, but it was… refreshing not to have the weight of the world on your shoulders anymore.
“The world’s in good hands with them,” you murmured as you leaned your head on Zuko’s shoulder.
“They all have that same fire you had when I first met you,” Zuko chuckled. You watched the four of them conversing and a smile graced your lips.
“Oh? Then I think the world’s in very good hands.”
Silent bloom
Pairings: Finn Collins/ Reader Bellamy Blake/reader
Warnings: swearing, and character death
Chapter: 2.03
"They want you. If we want a truce, we have to give them Finn."
"What the hell are you talking about?" Raven asked, stepping forward.
Clarke avoided making eye contact with any of you, "That’s their offer."
"That’s not an offer," you snapped. "That’s a death sentence."
"It’s punishment," Finn squeezed your shoulder lightly as he brushed past you. "For what happened at the village. Blood for blood."
Murphy walked towards where Finn was standing with a complex look on his face. "Hey, man. Byrne actually gave me a gun. I guess we really are screwed, huh? Look, we kicked their asses last time. We’ll do it again."
Finn looked at him blankly and said, "A lot of people died last time."
You chewed on your bottom lip as Bellamy and Finn continued talking, completely zoning out. Would the grounders really take Finn as a trade? The thought made your stomach turn. Your biggest fear right now was that someone would betray Finn and turn him over.
Hearing Clarke’s voice, you looked up again, to see Finn and Bellamy walking in another direction.
"Hey," Murphy said, stepping forward. "Any orders for me, princess?"
The blonde glared at him, "stay away from me."
You were surprised at the look of hurt on his face. "Just trying to be helpful."
It was obviously by the venom in Clarke’s voice that she blamed Murphy for what happened in the village. "You were with him at the village."
"I tried to stop him."
"Not hard enough!"
"You know, you want to start blaming people, Clarke?" Murphy stepped closer to her. "He wasn’t out there looking for me, was he? It’s not my fault he went batshit crazy."
He was out there looking for you.
You stepped in between them, stopping this before it went any further. "Enough! Both of you. Clarke, go do whatever it is you need to do. Yelling, and arguing isn’t helping anyone."
You watched Clarke walk away before turning to face Murphy, who looked slightly guilty. "What?"
"I…I didn’t mean it was your fault."
You shrugged, pretending his words didn’t strike a nerve. "Whatever, we have more important things to think about. Like how the hell we are going to save Finn."
"He’s a dead man walking," Murphy raised his hands defensively when you raised your brows at him. "What? I’m only pointing out the obvious."
You looked back towards the fence, and slowly walked towards it as the chanting got louder. You felt a lump at the back of your throat, as tears threatened to spill from your eyes.
Murphy stood beside you, "jus drein jus daun, Jus drein jus daun."
"Blood must have blood."
You looked back around to face Abby, and Jaha who were talking to some guards. "You don’t trust them, do you?"
"Do you?"
Murphy scoffed at your comment. Of course he didn’t. Nobody who has been screwed over by them should.
"Well, angel eyes, if we leave it to them, we are definitely screwed."
"Yeah," you agreed. Besides Abby, none of them would care what happened to Finn. "We’re going to need a miracle to happen."
"What’s the plan?" You asked, stopping beside Finn.
"The dropship."
Clarke shook her head. "You know that this is the safest place for him right now.”
"It isn't if they're turning on him," Bellmay pointed out. "We can protect him at the dropship until we figure this thing out. Grab your gear and meet at Raven's gate in five minutes. She’s already working on cutting the power to the fence."
Bellmay was right. Going to the dropship would probably be the safest place for him right now. It would also give you time to try and figure something else out.
"Okay," Finn nodded. "But nobody's coming with me."
You frowned, "of course we are. This isn’t up for discussion."
Clarke pressed her lips together. She still didn’t seem convinced that it was a good idea. "We are surrounded by Grounders."
"It will be easier if we split up." Noticing others starting to shout at a Finn you gripped his arm as Bellamy knocked the boy called Gruff out. "We need to go, now."
You nervously gripped the gun tightly, praying you didn’t make too much noise as you walked through the forest.
"I know I’ve said it before, but-"
"Shh," you stared at Finn wide-eyed.
He has been mostly silent since you caught up with him, and now wasn’t the time to start talking. You knew by the look on his face that he wasn’t going to let whatever was on his mind go.
"I was scared... when you disappeared. I thought I’d never get the chance to say I’m sorry, and I needed you to know that I love you."
"Finn," you stopped walking and turned to face him. "We have talked about this. None of it matters now, all that matters is getting you through this. We find a way to save you, and then we rescue Monty and Jasper, along with everybody else who the mountain men took." You let out a small laugh, "Who would have thought it would be grounders that saved me from them? "Ironic, huh."
"What were they like, the grounders who took you?" He whispered.
"Eh…good as far as kidnappers go. They gave me clean clothes, food, and water." You let out a sigh, "I was afraid they were going to torture me like they did Murphy."
“You have a soft spot for him."
"No I don’t."
For the first time in a long time, you saw Finn smile, "Oh my God, you have a crush on him."
Him teasing you reminded you what life was like back on the ark before everything went to shit. It made you almost forget when you were in the forest in the first place.
You shoved Finn’s arm playfully, "shut up. I just feel bad for him."
"You do like Bellamy though."
You shot Finn a look, "let’s not."
"He’s a good guy, he’d keep you safe. I’m sure of it."
"And who’s going to keep you safe from me? Because once this is all over, I have no issue raising hell if you don’t stop teasing me, Collins."
"What do we do after the dropship? Where do we go? You think the Grounders will just leave when they find out I'm gone? Is this the best way to help our friends inside Mount Weather? "
You gave him a sympathetic smile, "will figure this out."
The last thing you remember seeing is the horrified look on Finn’s face as a loud yelling came from behind you.
You let out a loud groan as you sat up. Looking around, you were confused. The last thing you remember was walking in the forest.
"Y/N," Clarke knelt down beside you. "Take it easy when you sit up. You got knocked out."
Of course you did.
"How’s your head?" Finn asked as he helped you stand up.
"Never been better."
"It will be another neat scar to add to your collection," Murphy shrugged.
You ignored his comment as Finn spoke to you in a hushed voice. "When you went down... I thought you were dead. Because of me."
"Finn," you say softly. "I’m right here."
"I’ve killed so many people."
You shook your head, "things that we've done to survive... they don't define us."
"What if you're wrong? What if this is who we are now?"
Not knowing what to say to comfort Finn, you pulled him in for a hug at the same time that Bellamy rushed into the drop shop. "We got company!"
"Oh fuck. We’re surrounded."
As everyone made their way to the outside of the ship, Bellmay stopped to face you. "I’m glad you're okay. You had me worried for a moment."
"Thanks. But honestly, I’m still worried."
"They’re not moving any closer."
"Staying out of range. Probably waiting until it's dark."
Murphy looked up at him, "If we hit them now, at least we'd take them by surprise."
You wouldn’t admit it out loud, but Murphy's idea made sense. You didn’t like it, but he did have a point. "The problem is, we don't even know how many of them are out there."
Murphy rolled his eyes, "I’m not hearing any better ideas, Daisy."
Raven stepped forward. "We’ll give them something."
Bellamy looked at her, confused. "All they want is Finn."
Raven looked away from the rest of the group, as her eyes landed on Murphy. "Finn wasn't the only one at the village."
"You can’t be serious! We aren’t handing anyone over to the grounders."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Raven, I came here to protect him. You were the one who wanted me to come." A hurt expression crossed over Murphy’s face. "You... That’s why you asked me to come along."
The brunette glared at him. "Enough Grounders saw him at the village. They’d believe he was the shooter."
"Sick bitch!" Murphy spat.
Clarke tried to calm her down. "Raven, you don't mean this."
"You know what they do to people?" you said, stepping towards her. "They want Finn, nobody else. We can’t protect him if we are fighting among ourselves.
Raven ignored what you said and pointed her gun towards Murphy. "They want a murderer, we'll give them one."
Hell no.
You shared a knowing look with Finn, before moving to step in front of Murphy. "Raven, this is insane! Put it down."
"Daisy, move out the way, I don’t want to hurt you. Murphy drop your weapon!"
"Raven, stop this before somebody gets hurt!" You yelled back at her. You knew deep down she wouldn’t actually shoot you, but you weren’t so sure about Murphy.
Ravenstill refused to lower her weapon, "I said drop it."
"Stop! Stop!" Finn pushed her hand down so the gun was no longer pointed in your direction. "We're not doing this. They’ve got us surrounded. The only thing we can do is stay. And defend this place. Murphy?"
"Yeah?"
"Go upstairs with Daisy. You two watch the rear. I'll take the lower level. You three, take the front gate. That’s the plan. All right?"
As Murphy walked ahead, you hugged Finn again, saying, "We’ve got this."
"May we meet again."
"We will." You pulled back from him, "I better go make sure nobody else tries to kill him."
"Yeah. Be careful."
When you joined Murphy, he glared at you. "Are you insane?"
"What are you talking about?"
"You stepped out in front of me! Raven could have shot you!"
Taken aback by his yelling, you shuffled uncomfortably. "She wasn’t going to-"
Murphy cut you off, "you don’t know that. Don’t ever do something like that for me again. Ever!"
You turned and faced the other direction, to avoid looking at him. Why was he so upset? You were only trying to keep everyone safe.
Hearing yelling, you quickly made your way towards the other side of the ship. "What’s happened?"
Bellamy looked at you with fear in his eyes. "Finn’s handed himself in."
You stood on the edge of Camp Jaha by the gates, squinting. Grounders were putting a large post into the ground. "What is that?"
"It’s for Finn," Clarke confirmed. "They want us to watch."
As others talked about what to do next, you noticed Clarke getting ready to leave. "What are you doing?"
"I’m gonna talk to the commander."
"Okay," you stepped beside her. "I’m going with you."
Bellamy stared at you both. "What else do you have to say?"
You sighed. "I don't know, but we need to try."
Raven stepped in front of you. "Give me your hand. If she won't let him go, kill her. Things will go crazy, and we'll grab you and Finn. Daisy, you and Clarke have to help him. I owe him my life."
Before you had a chance to say anything, Raven slipped a small knife into your hand.
As you and Clarke walked into the commander's tent, a grounder stepped forward and pressed a spear up against your chest.
Clarke seemed to know who the grounder was. "We are here to talk to your commander. Let us through."
Looking down, you noticed small drops of blood appearing on your top. The grounder has cut you.
"Let them pass," the commander said before looking you up and down. "You bleed for nothing. You cannot stop this."
As Clarke pleaded with Lexa to spare Finn’s life, you noticed Ada standing guard. When she noticed you walking toward her, she frowned. "You are here to beg for the traitor's life?"
"Finn’s my friend. He did an awful thing, something he can’t undo, but torturing him won’t bring anybody else back."
"He killed Zelda."
"I’m sorry…" you whispered. "It’s all my fault. He killed all those people because he thought they had taken me."
"You can’t save him, blood must have blood." Ada said harshly. "If you try to save him, all of your people will die."
Tears spilled onto your cheek. You turned to face the commander, "can I say good-bye?"
The commander paused for a moment before nodding. You were surprised that she was allowing you to talk to him, but you didn’t have time to overthink it. It was probably because of Clarke anyway. You needed to help him. You couldn’t let Finn die by the death of 1000 cuts.
You rushed towards Finn, and kissed him. "I love you, Finn, I never stopped."
"I’m scared."
You wiped tears from his cheek. "You’re gonna be ok. I won’t let you suffer." You kissed him once again, before showing him mercy. "You’re ok."
"Thanks, Daisy."
Stepping back, the only sound you could hear was your own sobs, mixed with Raven's screams, as you stared at Finn’s limp body.
Disclaimers: none of the photos are mine but the collage is
Tumblr media
Alright so Amanda dressed up as this picture of her at age 4-5 that went viral after she posted it on universe that her mom found.
She was wearing this sparkly pink sweater, a small pink purse and to top it off she was wearing pink shades and had a pink toy phone to her ear posing like the ✨sassiest queen ever✨
It became a viral meme
Atinys love it bc it’s such a dramatic difference to how she is now
She went from being a girly girl to a total tomboy
Everyone is like what happen in those 16 years
The ✨sass✨ however is the same
Anyways she came in after Mingi, strutting in like the confident queen she is 😎👸🏽 with a dramatic hair flip
Wooyoung: You look like a unicorn threw up on you
Amanda: *slides her sunglasses down a bit and gives him the death glare* You're not getting any candy
Wooyoung: 🤐🤐 I-I mean you look beautiful
Amanda: thank you😊 *opens her purses and hands him some candy*
She really stashed candy in her purse😭
Food is always her top priority
Amanda: BEST DANCER GETS SOME CANDY!
Not her pressing one of the buttons on the toy phone and it playing Lizzie McGuire theme song
Pls all of them starting dancing along to it just for a piece of candy 💃🏽🕺
Amanda: Mingi, I liked your dancing the best! Here *pulls out some candy from her purse and hands some to him*
Mingi: WOW THANK YOU! \(^ o ^)/
When Jongho came in, her and Wooyoung bowed, pretending he was their teacher💀
She lost it when Hongjoong came in and said Mingi is the reason he's change the most
Yunho walks in
Amanda: WOW! It’s a giant!!! *pretends to take photos of him with the toy phone*
Cookie Game
All the boys rushing to grab one of the cookies and arguing
And then there’s Amanda just watching them at her desk🧍🏽‍♀️
Girl was too lazy to get up and honestly she didn't care what she got, so she got Mingi to hand her one
Her and Seonghwa peeking at their cookies as they both forgot they weren’t suppose to
But only Seonghwa got caught since Amanda was sitting at the opposite end from Wooyoung and she didn’t announce to everyone what she got
Wooyoung to Seonghwa: AHH! YOU AREN’T SUPPOSED TO LOOK!!
Amanda: 😳 *slowly turns the cookie over and pushes away from her*
San: AMANDA LOOKE-
Amanda: *instantly covers his mouth*
Luckily Seonghwa had already yelled back at Wooyoung and no one heard beside the two of them and Mingi who were beside them, laughing
She ended getting a circle so it’s not too bad
Hongjoong: it would be good if at least 5 of us succeed
Amanda: it would be a miracle if 5 of us succeed
She really has no faith in them😭😭
Amanda was at a serious disadvantage here bc she didn’t grow up in Korea so she had never tried this before
But she incorporated what she learn from squid games and her 21 years of watching variety shows to help her
The girl got so concentrated when she started
Like girl just two seconds ago you could have cared less what shape you got, WHAT HAPPENED???
Not her and Yeosang licking the cookie and when wooyoung immediately failed the two of them shot him without it any hesitation😭
Sanga: BAANG!!🔫 🔫
In the middle of trying to cut out the circle, she was like I can barely see anything and it hit her, she forgot to take off her sunglasses💀
Amanda: ASDFGHJKL I forgot I’m wearing my sunglasses!!🥴
Yeosang: Wow! Nice job dummy
Amanda: Hey! At least I succeed :P *holding up her well crafted circle she cut out* IT’S THE CIRCLE OF LIFE ♬♩♪♩(>◒< )
Jongho: Why are you singing lion king?
Amanda: B/c IT's a Classic!! LET ME ENJOY MY SUCCESS IN PEACE!!😫
She was so proud of herself for succeeding
When they played those trivia games, she was impressed at how much they knew
What’s in the box? game
Amanda was just sitting back watching the members freak out during their turn, laughing her a** off
When Mingi started freaking out, she was like poor baby🥺
She knew this was going to happen even when he said he wasn't scared
And when he began stomping and drooling, she was in LITERAL TEARS from laughing so hard
Yunho just causally answering and finishing it off
The dynamic between the two is seriously amazing
Anyways when it was her turn, the did did rock paper scissor to see who had to go again w/ her
The boys huddled around and Amanda stood on a chair to see bc these boy are all FREAKIN TALL
She was standing behind Hongjoong and sent signals to the rest of the boys to all play paper so Hongjoong could lose and play with her
Hongjoong was so oblivious and fell for it💀💀
Hongjoong: YA! DID YOU ALL PLAN THIS?!
The members: Noooo! Of course not☺️
Someone save Hongjoong from the members
Anyways they decided to go one at a time
Hongjoong being the gentleman he is went first
he really just failed to convince Amanda to go first💀
Amanda being the little devil she is, sneakily put her hand in the box when Hongjoong was trying to work up the courage to put his hand in
And when Hongjoong finally put his hand in the box Amanda quickly held onto his hand
Hongjoong fling his arm out so fast and jump back
Hongjoong: 🙀 🙀YAAAAA! DOn’T dO ThAT!!
Members: 🤣🤣
Amanda:🥺🥺 whyy you don’t want to hold my hand…..😈
Hongjoong: NO!
Amanda: i'm hurt oppa *pretend to be offended*
Seonghwa: You guys got to hurry up!
The way the two forgot they were being timed
Amanda: sorry oppa
Hongjoong: it’s okay
Dahong: 🤝
Amanda put her hand in the box w/o any hesitation, she is fearless
We love a fearless queen👸🏽
The boys felt embarrassed that they weren't like that and started asking for redos🤡🤡
When she felt the object, she felt something chilly and mushy her face went🥶
Amanda: Why is it cold?
Hongjoong: IT's cold??😨
Amanda: And mushy?
Hongjoong: Mushy?!?😨
Amanda: HAVE YOU NOT FELT IT YET?!?! HURRY! Why am I doing all the work???
Amanda: 💡is this ice cream?
Ateez: ICE CREAM?!?!
The way their ears just perked up at the thought of food
Staff: Correct!
Ateez: 🏃‍♂️💨
The members all rushed over to the box like a pack of hyenas
Her and Hongjoong took it out of the box before the others could only to see it was mint chocolate ice cream
Hongjoong & Amanda: 🤢🤢🤢
San: 😍😍😍
Amanda is against mint chocolate ice cream
Mostly bc she doesn't like chocolate in general
They started getting into a heated debate about mint chocolate AGAIN
The editing team had to cut it out💀💀
But while they were arguing Amanda is sitting back at the desk quietly munching on some of her candy from her purse
When they blow out the candle for they cake and she blow air into Jongho hair instead
Jongho: 😒😒 *ready to fight*
Amanda:😊😊
This girl has no fear
Anyways Amanda really enjoyed the games they played and celebrating their 3rd year anniversary
She couldn't believe how much they had accomplished in just the span of 3 years
STAR CROSSED LOVERS • choi soobin
Tumblr media
Summary: You loved Soobin, and he loved you just as much. Being an Idol meant no dating, at least no dating out in public. So, when the public finds out about your relationship you’re forced to make a decision.
Words: 2.6K
Genre: angst, some fluff
Warnings: none
Pairing: Choi Soobin x idol! reader
[has not been edited, so there’s sure to be a couple of errors]
-
You let out a huff as you opened the door that would take you to your boyfriend. You had the code to get inside of course. Soobin gave it to you as soon as he talked his manager into letting him do so. He claimed it would be easier so he wouldn’t have to get up to answer the door.
The five of them were sprawled out on the couches in their main area. Soobin’s eyes moved from the screen and to you. A smile spread across his lips. Patting the empty spot next to him, he offered you a seat.
You gladly took it, squishing yourself between your boyfriend and Taehyun. It was the first time you were able to sit down today. You had been rehearsing all day, trying your best to get a certain dance move down with the other members of your group.
You hadn’t debuted yet, but you were scheduled to be the first girl group to do so under the Big Hit label. It was a big honor, and you couldn’t wait.
“What are we watching?” You asked, reaching over to grab some of the popcorn out of the bowl Beomgyu was holding.
None of them stopped watching long enough to glance at you. They were used to you showing up unannounced. It happened all the time, not that they cared.
Huening Kai answered. “Miracle in Cell Number 7”
You nodded, training your eyes on the screen. You had seen the movie before. You enjoyed it, but you couldn’t really pay attention. You were beyond exhausted. All of the running around you had been doing today had finally caught up to your body. You started practicing early that morning, and you had only finished an hour and a half ago.
You could slowly feel yourself being taken over by sleep. All the running around and training was finally getting to you, and you couldn’t stop your eyes from closing.
You leaned your head on Soobins shoulder, cuddling into his side. He pressed a soft kiss to your head, thankful the guys didn’t see him. He didn’t need the endless taunting for showing his affection towards his girlfriend.
Soobin hadn’t realized you fell asleep until you stirred slightly. He smiled at your peaceful expression.
“It’s like she comes over just to sleep.” Beomgyu said, watching as the leader pushed the fallen hairs out of her face.
It was a regular occurrence. You came over a lot, and most times you fell alseep. They didn’t blame you, nor did they tease you about it.
Yeonjun rolled his eyes at the comment. “Come on Gyu, you remember what it was like to be a trainee about to debut. It’s hell.”
“We barely get to breathe now, but even so we have a little more time than trainees do.” Taehyun agreed. “They do nothing but train all day with no breaks.”
“She overworks herself.” Soobin sighed. He hated how you overworked yourself all the time. Sure, he did it too, but he didn’t starve himself in order to practice. He couldn’t remember the last time he saw you stop to even eat a little.
He monitored you sometimes. He would bring you little snacks during your training hours when he had time. You adored his caring nature, and you honestly didn’t know what you would do without him.
He motioned for Taehyun to grab you so you wouldn’t fall over when he got up. The blond moved with no hesitation, placing his hands behind your head and on your shoulder.
Soobin stood up before bending down to place his arms under your legs and behind your neck. He shot Taehyun a thankful glance before lifting you up. Your hands instinctively moved to his chest, softly grabbing into the fabric.
“Be right back.”
Ignoring the chorus’ of ‘okays’, Soobin brought you to his room. He didn’t want to wake you up to take you to your dorm, and he didn’t want you to risk hurting your neck sleeping while sitting up.
He knew Beomgyu wouldn’t mind you sleeping in their shared room. This happens every now and then, so he was kind of used to it.
As Soobin laid you on her bed, you stirred around to get comfortable. He watched you, waiting for you to lay still before placing the blanket on top of you. Leaning down, he pressed a soft kiss to your head before leaving you to rest.
-
“I can’t believe you’re going on tour soon.” You pouted up at your boyfriend. The two of you were sprawled out on the couch, watching a movie that you had lost interest in. Your mind had wondered somewhere else, and now you were stuck worrying about him going on tour soon.
He smiled down at you. “It’s only for a couple of months. Then i’ll be back before you even realize I was gone.”
“And i’ll be busy with training and everything.” You sighed. “This is we’re relationships get hard.”
It was easy the first couple of months, but things were sure to get complicated in the next few weeks. The two of you couple barely find time to be together now, and you could only imagine how much harder it would be not being able to see him for months. You were worried you wouldn’t get to talk that much over the phone.
“We’ll make it work.” Soobin said, placing one of his large hands on your head. His fingers played with the strands on your hair, easing your nerves a little. “It’ll be hard, but we’ll figure it out.”
The sound of the door being shoved open echoed through the dorm. Beomgyu stood at the door, staring at the two of you with wide eyes.
You sat up on the couch, removing yourself from your boyfriend. “What’s wrong Gyu?”
“Have you seen the news?” He asked, walking further into the room. The both of you shook your heads, making the younger boy let out a breath. “It’s bad.”
He grabbed the remote off the table as the other three members rushed into the room. They all stopped at the edge of the couch, watching as Beomgyu found the news channel that was still talking about the situation.
“Earlier today, a trainee under the Big Hit label, Hybe was found outside Tomorrow x Togethers dorm. Their leader, Choi Soobin was seen greeting her with a smile and a warm hug. The news spread quickly across several social media platforms within hours of the release of the photos.”
Your heart dropped as pictures of you from this morning flashed across the screen. You didn’t understand how they got the pictures. You were sure you weren’t being followed. You always made sure to check.
“While some fans are expressing their happiness for the leader, others are outraged at the thought of them being a couple.”
You knew that idols dating wasn’t exactly accepted, and it was a risk the two of you were willing to take. Your company never denied you of seeing one another, but they explained how easy everything could fall apart if you were caught.
“A statement from Big Hit has yet to be released, and fans are waiting impatiently for the response to the dating rumors.”
The report ended, but your eyes never moved from the now blank screen. The room was the quietest it’s ever been. You could feel the tears gathering in your eyes.
Soobin quickly wrapped his arms around you, pulling you back into his arms as a way to comfort you. Neither of you said anything, for there was no words that could express how both of you were feeling. Your friends looked at you with sad eyes before leaving the two of you alone for a while.
You gripped his shirt with your fingers, trying to keep yourself together. Soobin held you tightly, comforting you as a way to keep himself from falling apart at the news.
Neither of you knew what was going to happen from that point.
-
“It’s like this.” One of the trainees preparing to debut with you said. Her name was Aeri, and she was going to be the leader as well as the main rapper. She was older than you by a year, but she was the second oldest.
“Got it.” Byeol nodded, marking the moves as she watched herself in the mirror. Byeol was the youngest, and the main vocalist.
Heejin, the oldest and the main dancer glanced at you, noticing you spaced out. “Y/n, you okay?”
“Huh?” You blinked, bringing yourself back to reality. You turned to your three friends, nodding as to try and convince them. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
“You might be the ace, but there’s one thing you can’t do-” Byeol said, sitting down on the ground. “and that’s lie.”
You almost smiled at the comment. You sat beside her, with Aeri taking the spot beside you and Heejin sitting in front of you.
“I’m worried.” You didn’t have to elaborate. They knew what you were talking about. “What if we have to break up?”
“I’m sure that won’t happen.” Heejin tried to reassure you. “They know you’re dating.”
“Yeah, but what if we have to.” you said once more, bringing a new meaning to your question. “What’s if it’s what’s best for us?”
“That’s only something you can decide.” Aeri gave you a sweet smile. You loved the three of them dearly. They always told you what they thought without sugarcoating it.
A knock on the door sounded, and one of the staff members peaked her head in. “Y/n, Mr. Bang wants to see you.”
You sighed. You knew this was bound to happen. It was the inevitable talk that you had been dreading.
You nodded and stood up, following after the woman. She lead you to Mr. Bangs office, where Soobin was already waiting. When his eyes met yours, you could tell he was freaking out on the inside like you were. He didn’t smile like he usually would when he saw you. He didn’t reach out his hand to grab yours. He didn’t tell you that you looked beautiful, even though you were drenched in sweat from dancing.
He was worried, and so were you.
He opened the door, and the two of you walked inside the office. Mr. Bang was sitting at his desk with a pained look on his face. When he noticed the two of you, he let out a breath as if this wasn’t what he wanted to be doing.
He motioned for the two of you to sit in the chairs in front of his desk, and you did. “I’m sure the two of you are aware of what’s going on.”
You nodded, not trusting your voice to speak up.
“When you first got together, I made myself clear that I didn’t mind it as long as it was kept from the public eye.” He reminded the two of you. You remembered it clearly. You were beyond happy to be able to be with the man you loved, even if it meant only being able to have dates in his dorm.
“The last thing I want to do is break apart young love, but the two of you need to weigh out the options.” He said, fixing the glasses on his nose. “Soobin, you’re group is doing fantastic, and your gaining popularity by the minute. Y/n, even without debuting you’ve gotten yourself a good sized fan base. You’re scheduled to debut within the next few months, and I have no doubts you’ll make it big, but this is where things get complicated.”
You refused to look away from the name plate that sat in front of you. You couldn’t look at either of them or you would start crying, and you didn’t want to cry right now.
“The reason most companies have the dating ban isn’t to be harsh, but to keep their artist focused, as well as to avoid any unnecessary hate from the fans. It’s there to keep you from falling from the spot you’ve worked so hard to get.”
You knew why the dating ban existed. It was nothing more than a ploy for the fans to believe none of the idols would date anyone, but several idols were actually engaging in healthy relationships.
You had wanted to be one of those idols, to have a healthy relationship as well as a happy fan base. You were doing so good, right up until now.
“But sir, how can we now if the fans will have a negative reaction to us dating?” Soobin asked. He was hoping for the best, but even he knew it wasn’t likely to play out how both of you wanted.
“That has to be a risk you’re willing to take. The choice is yours.”
You appreciated Mr. Bang for being sensitive with the two of you, but the message was clear. Either the two of you risk upsetting the fans and falling down on the social ladder, or be happy with one another and letting your groups suffer the consequences.
You didn’t know what to do.
-
She hasn’t even debuted yet and she’s already trying to ruin ppls career
she’s not even pretty wtf
if they’re rlly dating i’m unstanning
txts gonna flop bc of her
Your eyes scanned over the hate comments, your stomach turning at the mean comments filling Twitter. You didn’t understand how people that didn’t know you could judge you so easily.
Thoughts clouded your mind. If they were being so hard over rumors, imaging how much worse it would get if the two of you confirmed them to be true. They would be ruthless.
You knew what you had to do, but god you didn’t want to do it. You could already feel the tears threatening to come out as you turned over to the man laying beside you.
The two of you haven’t really been the same since your talk with Bang PD. You’ve been on edge, and it was easy to tell you were both thinking the same thing.
“Hey Binnie…” You said softly. The pain in your voice caught his attention face, and he was quick to sit up and face you.
“What’s wrong love?” He asked, cupping your face in his hands. His worried eyes scanned every inch of your face trying to understand what was bothering you. “Y/n?”
You closed you eyes, trying to gain the confidence to break both of your hearts. Inhaling quickly, you opened your eyes to
“I think we should break up.”
Even though you said it so easily, the pain in your eyes told him everything he needed to know. You didn’t want this, and neither did he.
“Baby-“
“Have you seen what they’re saying online?” You asked. The look he gave you told you he didn’t. “We didn’t train all of those years just to throw it o it of the window, and it’s not just our careers we’d be jeopardizing. It’s your group. Mine would be fine without me. They’d debut and thrive in the industry, but yours? You debuted nearly three years ago. If you got kicked out of the group what would happen?”
Soobin sighed, knowing you were right. He hated the fact, but it was true. There was no Tomorrow x Together without him, and what kind of friend would he be if gave up on them when they needed him.
“Binnie, I don’t want to do this anymore than you do.” The tears were back in your eyes, but this time you couldn’t control them. They were flowing down your face, clouding your vision. “I love you so much, and this is going to kill me, but we have to break up.”
Soobin eyed you, using his thumb to wipe the tears off your face while trying to keep his own tears from falling. “I love you more.”
He bent down to press his lips to yours. This was unlike any kiss you’ve ever had before. It held everything the two of you wanted to say. This last kiss shared the heartbreak both of you were beginning to feel. You wanted to freeze time and stay here with him forever, but it was impossible.
What was the old saying? If you love someone, set them free? There was nothing in the world you loved more than Soobin, and now you had to let him go.
Do you have and head cannons or drabbles of Anthony helping Benedict when he learns Sophie is pregnant before the wedding? And the Bridgerton boys just being Dads 🥰
Ahh okay we have Dadthony whom we know and love, now introducing Benedad and ladies, aren’t we thrilled to have him?!
Anthony had turned to his very smug looking wife halfway through his brother's wedding reception and said are you going to tell me what you're so smug about tonight? Kate. had scoffed and waved him off but he'd persisted as he watched Kate's eyes track Benedict and his new wife Sophie across the dance floor. The fourth time he'd asked her she'd tutted loudly pulled him in close and said For Fuck’s sake Anthony, Sophie’s obviously pregnant. Anthony’s head and shot towards his new sister in law who was radiating happiness as she spoke with Hyacinth, Benedict watching proudly behind her, his hand resting just so on her waist so that it curled protectively onto her still flat stomach. Anthony recognised it immediately for what it was. He’d done it twice himself when he and Kate were glowing with the secret pride of impending parenthood. He wasn’t even aware of leaving Kate, his feet propelling him forward, and before he knew it he had his brother wrapped in a tight embrace whispering Congratulations Ben, Dad would be so proud of you. When he pulled back, Benedict turned towards Sophie who looked a little bewildered and pulled her in as well whispering Thank you for making him so happy. Hyacinth tutted calling out Kate can you come and get your lunatic please?
Benedict had been near frantic ever since Sophie had told him she was pregnant. Sophie had been a staunchly independent person her entire life out of necessity and she had found it a little difficult at times, to accept his help when offered. And Benedict wanted to help, desperately wanted to take every burden from her shoulders so that she’d never have to struggle with anything again. He’d had it been there for her in her early life so he would be here now. He would be the father she had longed for herself as a child, for their children. This would be the life she had always dreamed. Unfortunately for Ben, it seemed that Sophie was completely unencumbered by pregnancy. He shouldn’t have been surprised, she was the most nurturing person he knew, of course motherhood suited her down to the ground. She had none of the morning sickness that had plagued Daphne and Kate, nothing. She just radiated happiness and warmth like a beacon. But that didn’t stop him from hovering anxiously around her, Nervously asking if she was sure she could manage work for today? Would she like him to pick her up from work, the underground wasn’t safe. Eventually it seemed he had run aground of even Sophie’s endless patience Ben, Honey, I need you to calm down. She said in her even, measured voice that always set him instantly at ease. He’d sighed I just worry about you Soph, and the little bean. She’d smiled softly and said I know, and I love you for it, but honestly you’re driving me a little insane. Which was the closest thing to critical his kind wife could likely manage Kate said Anthony was taking the boys to the park today, why don’t you go with them?
Kate had opened the door with a sigh 30 minutes later, Sophie said she was sending you out of the house. A little smirk growing on her lips. Seconds later Benedict felt something knock into his legs with a screech of Uncle Ben! Benedict knelt and lifted Edmund from the ground tossing his up in the air to his delight. Anthony came down the stairs, Miles resting on his hip, saying in a mock whisper Here’s Uncle Ben Miles, Auntie Sophie’s kicked him out for being such a pest. Benedict rolled his eyes at his brother, as Kate said I’m not sure what you’re laughing about Anthony, you were so unbearable it’s a miracle our children have a father. Benedict felt a little smug as Anthony’s face dropped into a scowl. 45 minutes later he and Anthony were strolling through Hyde park, Edmund on a bicycle, the handle of which held firmly in Anthony’s hand as the pedals swung unused, Miles strapped to his front in a baby carrier. Benedict watched his brother happily, his heart glad. I’m really happy for you, Ant. You’re so happy with your family it’s just nice to see. Anthony had grinned broadly, looking more carefree than Ben had ever seen him and said, shrugging I feel like this is what I was meant to do. Be there for Kate, look after our Kids. It makes me so unbelievably happy. But really though, don’t listen to Sophie, you hover as much as you like! That’s what we Dad’s do. Hover in case we’re needed. And without even looking down, Anthony’s hand shot out and caught Miles’ dropped toy.
Benedict had very nervously strapped his month old son Charlie into his car seat that first Saturday morning. Sophie had been absolutely exhausted, trying to care for their son, even with Benedict’s flexible work schedule. And she’d said Why don’t you take Charlie out, Honey? Like an unsaid plea. Benedict had nodded though he’d bit his lip, anxiety gnawing in his stomach, what if he did something wrong? What if something happened. But he’d called Anthony who’d been more than willing to join him. They strode through the park with renewed purpose, chatting happily, Charlie strapped to his front and suddenly all of his worries floated away. Anthony cleared his throat and said a little gruffly, We might have a few more member’s of our little club soon. Benedict had looked up questioningly and Anthony had said, with a blinding grin Kate’s pregnant. Benedict’s heart had leapt with happiness for his brother who couldn’t have looked any prouder if he tried. Benedict looked up and said Are we still pretending we don’t know Lucy’s pregnant? Anthony sighed, Yes but Greg should be joining us soon so fingers crossed he spills the beans.
This got really long! My bad!
Good Old-fashioned Loverboy
three teens who figured it out. . .sorta. . .yeah definitely figured it out
words: 1412
yamaguchi x reader x tsukishima
Tumblr media
No exams, no homework and no practice which was honestly a miracle for the team. Just a regular Friday night for the Karasuno boys and their managers. The 3rd years are planning to go to the cinema, the 2nd years are working together to find an arcade that Tanaka and Noya haven’t been banned from, and two groups of 1st years are doing something different. Yachi, Hinata, and Kageyama were heading to the park for two things; taking photos and volleyball. While Yamaguchi, Tsukishima, and you were heading to town for karaoke.
“This would’ve been much easier if we had picked a place beforehand.” you groaned out to the boys on either side of them. The trio just got off the train and realized none of them had direction to the Karaoke Plaza.
“I can proudly say that it’s not on me this time. Tsukki was in charge of directions for this one. . .” Yamaguchi mumbled out not wanting to take the blame for the lack of directions.
“Shut up, Yamaguchi.” Tsukishima grumbled out, ears lightly tinted pink. It sorta drifted from his mind during the train ride especially with you and Yamaguchi leaning against him, debating on what songs to sing when they got there.
Y/N could only laugh at Tsukishima’s unfortunate call out by Yamaguchi. To save Tsukishima from further embarrassment, they just searched “Karaoke Plaza” and found one about a 10 minute walk from the train station.
After looping around twice around the block, they finally get to the plaza and Y/N payed for the room while Yamaguchi gathered snacks, drinks for them and Tsukishima paid for those because he messed up on the directions.
“A good Karaoke Friday with my boys!” you exclaimed excitedly, walking into the room holding the basket of treats that Tsukishima had you carry.
“Tch. . . it’s not that exciting, nerd” the tall blonde muttered out
“Tsukki, you’re in class 1-4 with us so you’re also a ‘nerd’ along with us” the green headed boy shot back as if it was second nature.
You set down the basket on the middle table near the book and controls while the two others got comfortable and fixed. Once getting their bags and jackets off, Yamaguchi looked for the small tambourines and Tsukishima decided to get the TV going.
Looking through the book, Y/N found the song they were looking for, ‘Good Old-Fashioned Loverboy’ by Queen, it’s been a song on constant repeat for the manager especially when down in the dumps about their crushes. Punching in the American song code into the controller it starts at the song’s second chorus.
Say the word, your wish is my command~
You’ve known these two boys for four years now and it’s been quite the ride for you. You met them during junior high orientation week and you’re happy you did meet this pair. Complete opposites to one another but fit together as if they were final puzzle pieces.
Tsukishima Kei was a tough person to get talking to at first but slowly his tough facade chipped away. The tall blonde boy who is often seen with a frown or a condescending smirk on his face was smiling in the present of someone other than his closest friend.
Yamaguchi Tadashi was shy at first meet and isn’t the biggest people person but had no problem when snickering at others along with tsukishima. For some reason he had no troubles talking to you, he was the first to greet and the first to exchange numbers.
Two generally closed off kids meet another and open up. Sure they had their rough moments but that’s what made them them. You made it easier though and so you became the last actual piece of puzzle that formed the trio.
Two years in, you realized that you started to develop feelings that weren’t just platonic towards the boys. It was confusing and a nightmare figuring it out. You always tried to shove it deep down but it got hard after sometime.
Even more when you notice Tsukishima taking a liking towards Yamaguchi and seeing Yamaguchi giving the same. But you never notice how they looked at you when you looked away. Three friends who didn’t know what to do or say.
C’mon and Get It~
You didn’t know what came over yourself when you noticed Tsukishima glancing at Yamaguchi with a look of affection in his eye.
“Maybe it‘s time to let go” You thought with a sigh before pushing Yams towards Tsukki
Ooh, love~
Yamaguchi was too into his thoughts to hear the sudden sigh from beside him before being pushed towards his best friend, Tsukishima Kei.
His eyes widened from the fast change. Cheeks growing warm from the sudden burst of his personal bubble and the closeness. Looking at each other, it was as if the childhood friends were thinking on the same line.
“Maybe it’s time we finally tell them”
This wasn’t going to be some impulsive decision on their half or at least that’s what they’re telling themselves. Though it’s not like the two didn’t talk about this before with each other. The boys figured out at the end of junior high that they not only like each other but you as well.
So lost in the song you didn’t see the look the friends gave one another. A look that was soft but hesitant yet full of hope and affection.
Feeling a sudden tug at your hoodie, you're pulled between the middle block and pinch server. At the same time the two sing with genuine voices.
ooh, loverboy~
What’re you doin’ tonight, hey, boy?~
Standing there frozen from the line, heat moved to your cheeks and a silly smile slowly appeared on your face.
Write my letter~
Feel much better~
And use my fancy patter on the telephone~
The music is still playing on in the background and hearts racing for the sudden silence between the trio. Tadashi and Kei took a shot in the dark doing this, not really sure if you even like them back but they didn't care. The worst that could happen is you not feeling the same towards the two.
“You know it isn’t funny to mess with me like that, you guys.” you muttered out though your voice held no malice just a tinge of confusion and caution.
“We aren’t joking, idiot.”
“Hey!”
“Just hear us out, please?”
The room didn’t hold an awkward feeling if anything it was calm but loud at the same time.
“We realized that both of us hold feeling for you, y/n” Tadashi sounded so nervous getting his sentence out, “We’re honestly taking ou–” he gets cut off by the tall blonde
“What Tadashi is trying to say is that we both like you and if you don’t feel the same that’s okay, we could just ignore what just happened and move on.” he sounded so uninterested but the speed he spoke at gave away what his tone did not. He was nervous.
“I–” you began to speak but was cut off by Tadashi
“Like Tsukki said, if you don’t feel the same that’s okay.”
“Not like it would be the end of the world–” Kei gets a nudge in the side, tch, “Watch it, Yamaguchi.”
“Sorry, Tsukki.”
“Can I speak now?” you asked softly and gave a smile. The two players give you a nod. You shuffle a bit before clearing your throat.
“Before I was interrupted,” you eyed Tadashi playful, “I was going to say that I like you both as well.” you kept your gaze a bit low, too nervous to look them in the eyes. Taking in a deep slow breath, you gathered enough confidence to look towards Kei, “I like how you take the time out of your day to check on me when you feel like something is wrong,” grabbing his hand before turning towards Tadashi and taking his as well before continuing
“And I like how you let me call at the terrible hour of 3 in the morning just because I couldn’t sleep or I really wanted to talk about something you had no knowledge prior to.”
“So if you need to hear it one more time, I like both of you, Tsukishima Kei and Yamaguchi Tadashi.”
Tumblr media
One Month Later
“Hey Stingyshima, Yamaguchi, why is there a picture of the two of you and Y/N cuddling in the group chat?”
The pinch server could only laugh at his blonde partner because he was the one sent it by mistake.
“Shut up, Yamaguchi.”
“Sorry, Tsukki”
I do, I don't
A continuation of this AU - Written for @thewitcherbog Hallmark Weddings June event. Yes, I know it's July. Life happened.
Ship: Lambden
CW: none?
_______
It should have been the happiest day of Lambert’s life. That’s what everyone said, and honestly he wanted to be happy. He loved Aiden, more than he thought was possible when the idiot had walked into his garage in his hipster clothes and pretty boy motorbike. That had been almost two years ago now and they’d been dating ever since. Aiden was good for Lambert. He not only tolerated Lambert’s shittier moods, but also seemed to love him through the worst of it. It was a fucking miracle.
And they’d been happy.
The happiest they’d ever been.
Then Yennefer and Renfri had gotten married, and then Geralt and Jaskier got engaged, followed by Triss and Eskel. It seemed like everyone was getting married because that’s just what people did when they grew up. So, Lambert had proposed to Aiden and his boyfriend-turned-fiancé had said yes.
That had been a month ago. They’d both agreed that they didn’t want a big wedding, and so Lambert was standing in Eskel’s bedroom in a suit that was far too expensive and still didn’t fit right waiting to marry the love of his god damn life. The sun was shining. Everyone seemed to be excited; everyone except him. Lambert was fucking miserable. He didn’t even know why. There was no reason not to marry Aiden. They loved each other, through thick and thin, for better or for worse… usually for worse, but they made it work even though no one else really understood how.
“Hey?” Eskel’s hand landed on his shoulder, pulling him from his thoughts. It wasn’t enough to completely stop his spiral but it helped. “I know you don’t have a lot of brain cells, but what’s going on up there?”
Lambert punched his brother on the arm and rolled his eyes. “Nothing. I’m fine.”
“Fuck that,” Eskel scoffed. “I know you, Lamb. You’re not fine.”
“Cold feet,” Lambert muttered, running his hands through his hair. Eskel had helped him try and tame the mess of his hair that morning, but it was no use. Luckily Aiden seemed to like his hair even when it did resemble a bird’s nest. His boyfriend, no... fiancé, saw the beauty in everything. Lambert’s red hair was apparently some kind of metaphor or whatever for the rage that burned within him. Some shitty imagery that Aiden loved to play with in his photography.
“This isn’t cold feet.”
“Like hell it isn’t,” Lambert snapped and marched out of the room. He couldn’t go far. He was travelling with Eskel to the hall where the ceremony was being held. Pinching his nose, Lambert cursed and slunk back into the room. “I need to call him.”
“Is that a good idea?” Eskel asked, being annoyingly concerned in the way only big brothers could manage. Deep down Lambert loved it, but he wasn’t in the mood for it today he just wanted to curl up to his… to Aiden and forget this whole damn thing.
But Aiden would be devastated, and Lambert could never do that to him. Aiden deserved better, he’d always deserved better but for some godforsaken reason, Aiden wanted him.
Lambert would do anything to keep him, even if that meant getting married when really he couldn’t think of anything worse.
It wasn’t that he was afraid of the commitment. He knew he couldn’t be more committed to Aiden if he tried it was just… marriage. It was a load of fucking bullshit. He didn’t understand it. Why did he need some stupid piece of paper to tell the world he was in love with Aiden? He could do that just fine on his own, but he’d proposed. It had been his choice. He couldn’t back out now.
Could he?
“Fuck it!” Lambert growled, running for the front door. He grabbed the keys to Eskel’s car before his brother could realise what was happening, and then made his escape.
He knew that he should probably tell Eskel what was going on, but Lambert had always struggled trusting people. It had taken Aiden months to break through his walls, and right now the only person Lambert did trust was his kitten. If anyone was going to understand it would be Aiden. Otherwise then… well… Lambert really shouldn’t be marrying him anyway.
“Lambert! Come back here, you bastard!” Eskel yelled from behind him, but it was too late.
He put his foot down and drove through the familiar streets until he was outside Aiden’s apartment. Jaskier and Geralt were waiting in the driveway when he arrived, ready to stop him, but something about Lambert’s death glare actually gave them pause. Geralt put his hand on Lambert’s arm and peered at him, stoic and silent, before nodding and letting him pass.
“Oi! Geralt! What are you doing?! They are not supposed to see each other!”
“It’s okay, Jask.”
Lambert ignored them as he passed through the door and finally, fucking finally, there was Aiden.
Looking absolutely stunning.
Aiden’s suit was a dark navy blue. His long hair was swept up off his face with intricate braiding on either side of his head, Jaskier’s handiwork probably, and there were dark smudges of eyeliner around his eyes. Honestly, Aiden had no right to be that handsome during Lambert’s breakdown.
“Hey darling,” Aiden said softly, already reaching out a hand. Lambert barrelled into him, pressing his face into the crook of his boyfriend’s neck and sighing as he let the scent of Aiden’s cologne wash over him.
“Hi,” he grumbled.
“So, I’ve been thinking…”
Lambert scowled as he pulled back, but Aiden’s hand was already on his cheek before he could spiral any further. “Yeah?”
“Marriage seems rather arbitrary, doesn’t it?”
Relief flooded through him. He wanted to laugh. He wanted to cry… perhaps both. There was no way this was real. It had to be some kind of dream, maybe he hadn’t even woken up yet and this was all some pre-wedding nightmare. Sure Aiden hadn’t been as big into the wedding planning as he’d expected but he’d been invested enough…
Unless Aiden was doing it because he thought Lambert had wanted it.
“Wolf?”
Lambert spluttered nonsensically, and then pulled his boyfriend into a kiss, one hand cupping the back of Aiden’s neck to hold him closer. If he was crying by the end of the kiss then neither of them mentioned it, and Lambert just wiped away his tears before burying his face in Aiden’s shoulder. “I love you, kitten,” he mumbled.
“I love you too, sweetheart,” Aiden whispered, running a hand down Lambert’s back. “Why on earth did you ask, wolf?”
“Why did you say yes?!” he grumbled, pouting even though his boyfriend couldn’t see him.
“I thought it was what you wanted.”
“I thought it was what you wanted!” Lamber shot back, pulling away to glare at Aiden.
“I would have asked,” Aiden laughed and crashed their lips together once more.
They were idiots, both of them, but Lambert could finally say it was the happiest day of his life. Marriage, as it turned out, just wasn’t for them, and that was okay.
Interdimensional Moms pt4
Part 3 here! <-
The tales had be interesting. The tales had even been emotionally gripping, yet all of them so far didn’t seem to register at the moment as Ruby’s teammates looked at her with the same excitement she used to give her own mother during story time. Ruby couldn’t help but give a little smile.
Ruby:I take it you’re ready for my turn? You do know it’s not exactly a sunshine and rainbows story, right?
Weiss:We figured as much, but....
Yang:You’re so different! From the moment you showed up I could just feel it in my gut. You have this...presence about you. Not to mention intsene confidence.
Blake:Yang is right. You said you beat your Salem when your seventeen. That’s...scary if I’m being honest. Such a drastic departure from any of our worlds.
Ruby:*red* Hehehe ummm I guess I’m just awesome? Really I don’t think it’s the most outstanding feat. At least by my worlds standards I suppose. I mean sure, I’m consider cream of the crop there too but there’s talented people and challenges all over that would put me through my paces still. I’m just...me.
Weiss:Sigh...honestly, I suppose that means our own skills must pale in comparison to our counterparts.
Ruby:Mmmm I wouldn’t say that for sure. My Yang would kill me if she heard this but there’s something about the one right here that has spark I dig.
Yang:Really?
Ruby:Uh huh. Can’t put my finger on it but I think you take her if you want it bad enough. As for Weiss....couldn’t tell ya. Haha, I know better than anybody to not underestimate the power of mother, and you pumped twins out.
Weiss:Not sure if those are pity points or real ones but thanks either way.
Blake:You don’t even have to tell me I’d lose. Just gave an entire story about me an my condition.
Ruby:Don’t feel too bad about it. I can’t imagine much reason for you two to fight for any reason. You’re both too reasonable to not reason with yourself.
Blake:Aw I’m touched.
Yang and Weiss:We aren’t....
Ruby:Hahaha I’m just saying! So, I guess I take things from the top like you all? From what I learned from all of you our Beacon experiences really are more or less the same, not counting certain interactions between a bookworm faunus and an adorkable blonde knight. Enrolled early, blew up the entrance, Weiss was rude, Yang ditched me, all the same beats.
Yang:There’s no super badass change like you beating Cinder the night of dance and making our entire lives easier?
Ruby:Ha! I wish I was that legit. No, I was very much the young girl tripping in heels that night. Vytal festival came around and was attacked, then Beacon fell. Pyrrha was lost and so was Penny. Difference being that was my last time seeing her, unlike Weiss’s story apparently.
Weiss:Yeah that...that’s a little bit of shock to be frank. Sorry.
Ruby:No worries. Not like you did anything and it was decades ago for me now. After that day is when I started to get a bit more serious I think. I had always taken being a huntress seriously and never slacked of in trying to live my dream. However, my perspective may have honed in on just how do or die life his when you’re the one choosing to walk into unknown danger. Team RNJR’s first and only mission, save the world!
Yang:Sub mission: Flirt with Jaune Arc.
Ruby:*blushing* We do not choose who we fall in love with it. But yes, that may have been a personal pseudo mission for me. He’s my first friend at Beacon for crying out loud and I you know.....thought he was cute then too.
WBY:Yeah that checks out.
Ruby:What does that mean!?
Weiss:Ruby, even my Ruby admits to finding Jaune attractive and having a crush on him back in the day.
Blake:Same.
Yang:I already went into enough detail on how my little sister feels about Jaune. Your just the reality where you pounced on the opportunity and never let go. Struck when the iron was hot and none of us were around; sly fox.
Ruby:Gee you make it sound underhanded. It isn’t like I intended to actively pursue him. Everyone was really sad and stressed traveling to Anima. There was a tension in the air. One that really strained us. I did my best to keep focus, but a leader is only as put together as team. Ren and Nora confided one another as usual and I tried being there for Jaune because seeing him emotionally shut down was rough; so I did my best to be there for him. Then...he ended up being there for me and I was the one who needed comfort. All the airing out and late nights just...led to....*red*
Blake: “Breaking the tension?”
Ruby:I guess that’s one way of putting it. We were lonely. I hid my feelings best I could under the veil of comfort in the moment. Not that needed to. He made it pretty clear that he wanted me in the same way I wanted him. I just the two of us were too scared to ask for promises we weren’t sure we could keep so we loved in the moments we could, so to speak.
Weiss:If it wasn’t under dire situations, all that sounds oddly romantic.
Ruby:Right!? Looking back at it makes the entire thing seem romantic but I definitely wouldn’t wish a similar experience on anybody! I guess it’s what I wished for when I fantasized huntress life huh? Things obviously got better along the way. Our relationship got a bit more serious right before we got to Haven. Then Tyrian and other crazy stuff happened that threw all of us into panic mode again before slowly getting better again by a lot.
Yang:We showed up?
Ruby:Bingo! You and Weiss, met Oscar, and then eventually Blake came back. Things were on the up and up.
Weiss:Uh, Haven attack?
Ruby:We lived, up and up. Yeah you got stabbed but you know...that’s not new I’m sure.
Weiss:Yeah I have the scar and I’m still little pissed.
Ruby:Valid. Anyways, so my Atlas experience was different as hell. There was no formation of Remnants armies like Weiss spoke of or even between two kingdoms like Blake. Yang, what happened yours again exactly?
Yang:Nonsense. Cinder showed up with lackeies but not Salem’s lackies. Those people showed up separately, then Adam came back from wherever the hell he- a lot! A lot of people showed up for different reasons but also the same reason and to be frank, we all almost got shot by the military for being in bases that quote unquote, “didn’t exist.”
Ruby:Man I wish we traded. That at least sounds crazy enough to be fun. Just a rollercoaster in the dark basically. My experience was probably as hectic, but also way more streamlined. We showed up, and then all hell broke loose. Specially a mass grimm invasion lead by Cinder and her annoying associates. We were there for about three weeks updating General Ironwood and getting our barrings together when it happened. I wanna call it a hit and run tactic but it was clearly planned in advanced. Mechs were hacked again, traitors in the military, grimm lying in wait before hand; it was chaos! All for the relic.
Blake:Who was the maiden?
Ruby:Never met her. By the time we got there, Ironwood was panicking because she had vanished, taken right from under his nose. It was some young girl apparently, really young. The attack on Beacon looked like child’s play to this. Mantle got attacked, grimm were on the chains, they tried dropping Atlas to the ground; all a diversion for a relic. We all should’ve died, and yet, we didn’t. Winter and Weiss weeded out traitors, huntsman and military held the line, Yang bested Hazel with Nora, Qrow and I cut down Tyrian! Ren, Blake and Jaune helped the kingdoms while Ironwood struck down Watts. Nobody was in the mood to die that day. There wasn’t gonna be another Beacon. By all means, we were pissed. Even Raven showed up of all people.
Yang:What!?
Ruby:You can’t attack a kingdom without the world knowing. Especially when traitors leak info. Honestly she came for you though, or she never left to begin with. Couldn’t tell ya. Thanks to Maria I had a bit more handling with my eyes. That helped a lot. Without them and Os-
She stopped herself, choking on the words. The zest and excitement of recalling the heroic feats of her friends dimmed slightly with her smile. Her joyful smile became bittersweet like the memory.
Ruby:Then there was Oscar, the real warrior on that flamed filled night. That battle had to have been three days at least. We were so driven, and so tired. I was tired, but Cinder, Neo, and the others with her at the time weren’t; always showing up at the worst time. I managed to push Cinder back in a fight but grimm and others still swarmed. We were at a point that grimm very well might’ve did us in and the villains didn’t have to push any harder. But Oscar changed that. Hehe, what’s it about country folk that makes people like him and I not hesitate to grit our teeth? That dork looked at me, gave me the biggest smile on the the steps to Atlas, and then he left. His hair went white as he twirled the cane and then he left, forever. Oz came out, and he left nothing to the imagination. “Limited magic” my butt. He obliterated grimm and made a barrier aroma Atlas while everyone else cleared Mantle long enough for the world to send reinforcements. Salem didn’t get the relic, but she got the maiden and thousands of casualties. Oscar being one of them. Also, Whitley....he was in critical condition for a very long time.
Weiss:What do you mean...critical condition?
Ruby:Everything happened so fast Weiss. Panic was high, buildings fell....a piece on him. I wasn’t there but when I eventually found you, you were nearly hysterical and banged up. By some miracle he lived even though we could not reach him and he did not get aid for awhile. We thought him dead. It was only after everything we learned somebody got him. Being rich never paid off more than with medical bills. Thanks to youth and medicine he can still walk, but he can only do so much before being tired. He also left Atlas. The cold hurts.
Weiss:So, I run the company because he can’t?
Ruby:I wouldn’t put it that way, but it was one of dozens of reasons that made that goal stronger for you. Relax though, both of you get plenty of time to be witty siblings like I told you earlier.
Weiss:I know. It’s just, I guess it’s hard imagining Whitley hurt like that. I don’t think I could handle it.
Ruby:You definitely teetered in the moment. Knowing that happened though probably gave you anger and grit to fight the entire battle. You were a beast. Scarier than Winter. Anyways, that hollow victory was a real wake up call for the world. They didn’t know about Salem and we never told society in earnest. Cinder and other conspirators were enough to make Remnant work together to boost defense. Relief went to places that needed it and I, became the face of hope. Haven, Argus, Atlas, even people from Vale got to chattering of a particular group of people who always seemed to answer the call for help. Then the towns in between chattered. Yours truly had been carving a name in the history books and was only gain popularity the moment I stepped into Vacou, alone.
Blake:Alone!?
Weiss:What!?
Yang:Where were we!!!!!?
Ruby looked at surprised faces around the table, smiling tenderly. She looked down her dress and pulled out the cross she wore around her neck. Her thumb traced its edges as her mind began wandering down an old path paved with emotions raw to the core.
Ruby:I’ve always felt different. Not just because of my eyes but that there was just...a certain spark that never stopped going off for as long as I remember. There are plenty of people who can’t bare to watch others suffer, but there are fewer people I believe that truly feel the agony of other people’s pain. Beacon, Haven, Atlas, Argus; there was no place I went that I didn’t see the faces of others lamenting, and I didn’t make me want to grieve. Atlas took so much out of all of you and I just felt so....driven to stop that ache. For everyone’s sake, but mine as well. I wanted the world to finally get to the happy ending. Enough trauma had be sowed for a hundred lifetimes, so I went on ahead of everyone. I never doubted you all would follow but I wanted to get ahead of the curve and take on as much of the suffering I could do others wouldn’t. If the world wouldn’t give me a miracle than I’d be it myself for everyone else.
Yang:That’s suicidal! Salem wanted you specifically!
Ruby:It’s not like I went marching up to her door and said “1v1 bitch, I’m here” no, I just chose to move forward quicker than what we were all doing. Believe me, all of you were upset when you caught up, after I had already saved Vacou. *smiles* I really like that place. I told the people it was the next target and all they did was double down on pushing back. I managed to pin down the Summer maiden before the villains and thanks with the city on alert, there wasn’t a shift in the sand that didn’t go unnoticed. I got the jump on Mercury and Emerald, personally paying them back. Can’t say I didn’t enjoy it. It didn’t take long before they realized how screwed they were with them being outed like this and Cinder having the nerve to retreat before hand. Both of them threw in the total, outing the plan against Vacou. A wipeout of a win. Not to mention they told me the location Salem’s little hiding hole.
Weiss:We missed all of that?
Ruby:That’s what happens when I leave in the dead of night and running on adrenaline. Like I said before, people were tired. As much as all of you wanted to hoof it, other’s were relying on you. Atlas almost dropped for gods sake. Eventually when you all caught up it was at a good time. Soloing was rewarding but difficult. Fortunately Sun, Neptune, Ilia, and a few other familiar faces were close by if I needed an extra set of hands. My little stunt earned the anger of everyone for awhile.
WBY:Yeah no shit...the leader left.
Ruby:Yang was the most upset, followed by Uncle Qrow, and you Weiss. I was ready for the blowback. Jaune and Nora saw me though and bursted into tears. Hehe, wasn’t ready for that. Felt terrible and cried back. To prevent that stunt again, my Yang convinced Raven to link me. A couple days of apologizing and rest smoothed things over. It also gave time for just a few close friends and colleagues to get together for an assault on Salem’s castle. A few were apprehensive about it at first but at the end of the day I was going. That attitude was infectious apparently. You guys, actually everybody, they started getting this hunger to end it all. Maybe it was the high of victory? Regardless, it sent me racing to the end with those that I loved most.
Yang:You’re a real “my way or the highway” kind of Ruby. I don’t get how that explains what made you so...elite.
Ruby:I’m not sure what to say. A fight needed to to fought so I fought it. A cry for help was heard so I ran to it. A grimm needed slaying so I slayed it. People needed me to win so I didn’t dare think of losing. Dying was never option, even when it stared me right into my eyes. I had things I wanted to do and people I wanted see for years to come. I guess...I am strong because of the fact I want things my way. A moment I’m not giving it 110% is a moment wasted. After all, a huntress is all I ever wanted to be.
A single dream she wanted since birth. The never ending desire to be the hero in stories told to her many nights ago. That’s all it ever was. That’s all it’s ever been. Even in meadow of beautiful red roses, one would be the rose that captured the eyes of many, that bloomed stronger than the rest. As simple as it was, that had to be the answer here. Weiss, Yang, and Blake were in front of that flower. The Ruby Rose that simply bloomed stronger than the rest. The one that clung to her dream as if letting go meant dying itself. The devotion was inspiring, yet also overwhelming. If this was Ruby they had lead them that day in the Emerald Forest, could they have kept up? Could she be the leader they followed? No, they couldn’t have. Something deep down inside them gave them that answer. No matter how she looked and how much she loved, this Ruby Rose was cut from a cloth they simply weren’t off. The same as others, but oh so different.
Weiss:You’re....kinda a monster, you know that right?
Yang:Seriously, I’m so...floored. It’s intimidating.
Blake:Not to mention humbling. I used to think I gave it all I had. Now I’m not so sure.
Ruby:Oh don’t be like that you three! You’re all living proof there was more than way to go about life, this war! Everything you gave was enough because you’re done with it! Nobody failed. Besides, I...am far from ideal. The assault was challenging. Getting around hoards of grimm and making it to Salem was hell made real. Neo tried taking another shot at me but Yang held her off with help. Everyone pushed the obstacles in front of me out of the way as I went to Salem herself. Cinder had been abandoned by her and stripped of a lot of her powers. Angry and desperate, she tried killing me again as a way to prove worth. I beat her. However, I let her walk away.
Yang:What!? Why would-
Ruby:Naive, I was...naive okay? She was all spent and though I hated her, I just couldn’t. Not when I looked into her eyes and saw that same hunger I had to claw and scream at my dream until it was in my hands die inside her. We both knew from this point on there was absolutely nothing she could do where this ends her way. All she worked for turned burned to ash. So I gave her the choice to not burn up with it. Cinder swallow her pride and then fled. A part of me couldn’t help but rationalize killing her didn’t solve or justify any of my beliefs or desires. It would’ve done it because I hated her like she hated me. That was the dumb logic of a seventeen year old who never quite learned to take things slow.
Blake:....I don’t think it’s dumb. Naive for sure, but maybe that’s good? Even my Ruby, she never wanted to act on hate. She didn’t. Salem lives.
Weiss:Mine sent her soul to be at piece instead of passing a cruel judgment.
Yang:As a person who’s seen what you looked like with nothing but vengeance inside, I can say it doesn’t fit you. Before that day you had a warmth inside you to even foes that were somewhat admirable. You chose to leave Cinder’s fate up to those who had that hate and Salem was undone by her own doing at the very end. That’s what really makes you special Ruby. That’s why you’re called an honest soul. Good will is your nature.
Ruby:....Hmm, you sure know how to butter me up. *scratches head* I guess that part of me is uni-I mean multiversal. Strangely, that makes me feel better, to a degree.
Weiss:Do we even have to ask what happened to Salem at this point? I doubt the story ends with you loosing and having to retreat.
Ruby:Who’s to say it doesn’t? I could’ve been beaten to death before the gods themselves descended down to revive me with awesome power.
Yang:....Did you?
Ruby:Wh-No! Haha, I made her an immortal statue.
Blake:I-It was that easy?
Ruby:Well I wouldn’t call rushing into hell’s castle easy, or Salem. I lit her up at least a dozen times. My head pounded from each use, I was tossed around a bunch, magic is annoying, and not to mention running out of ammo. I left nothing to the imagination in that fight. If it were easy then I wouldn’t be rooting my horn and my age doing it. I was so tired I blacked out afterwards. I woke days later with a sore body and the title of “Remnant’s Savior.” Apparently beating Salem had weakened the grimm everywhere and all of you made sure who was to be thanked for it. That’s the tale of how I saved the world with my friends. Love, trust, elbow grease, and a lot of bullets. Before the final battle, Ozpin had struck a deal with everyone involved. In return for saving the world, he’d cut ties with us.
Yang:Seriously? What brought that about!?
Ruby:Good or not, he lied and was a schemer. Sure I was gonna try to save the world regardless of his interference but there wasn’t a person alive that didn’t to finally take a step towards the future after all this. All of us finally had time chase dreams and help the world the way we wanted to before all of this. Blake begin mending hate, Weiss took back her company, if Yang wasn’t with Blake then she was seeking more answers to Raven on wild adventures.
Yang:You mean Raven still left after all that!?
Ruby:In her defense, both of you made everything fucking awkward when she was around. It’s like you both wanted to talk about something but knew any subject was a land mine so you all you ever did was...stare, like weirdos. Glad that’s in the past. She just lives with dad now and you two now to hold a conversation. I dare not ask for more. I’d be a granny by the time I did.
Yang:Sigh...I don’t know what I expected. Shit it the fan several times and children were born before mom and I found solidarity and understanding. What did you do afterwards? Your goal was already met.
Ruby:Like hell it was! I started busting my butt traveling around the world, visiting every place to help in anyways I could. Ren and Nora tagged along for awhile before going off to make an orphanage in Anima near Ren’s old village. That left Jaune and I to do our hero thing.
Yang:As well as other things....
Ruby:Hey, what can I say? We were young and going up in the world. By the time I was nineteen, I was now a married to my partner and best friend.
Weiss:Uhhhh-
Ruby:He’s my partner on RNJR and you’re my BFF, gosh did I really need to explain that hehe?
Weiss:I just had to make sure. Crazier twists could happen.
Blake:Wow you married young. Not that there’s a problem but I’m surprised. Then again you also dated earlier than my Ruby. Hehe, weapons were on her brain for a long time.
Weiss:No kidding. When I learned about you crushing on my brother I was shocked to find out you liked anybody in general. Especially a person who isn’t a weapon nut in the slightest.
Ruby:*shrugs* All you’re telling me is I’m clearly the most impatient or impulsive Ruby you all know. Don’t know how that happened. Maybe I was dropped as a baby or had one too many coffees growing up?
Weiss:I’m willing to bet it’s both.
Ruby:Ruuuuude. So yeah, that’s...the story of how I saved the world and married Jaune. We even built a home just outside Vacou, overlooking the kingdom and neighboring town in the distance where Maria grew up. Yeah, that’s me....more or less. All the triumphant parts anyways. Anything later on is......
.......
Blake:R...Ruby? You okay?
Ruby:Nope, not really. *clenches cross*
Yang:......You know, I never really got religion, especially after learning the truth. It just seemed completely hollow when you learn of the real gods, ya know? However, I changed my tune a bit after being a parent and then some more when uncle Qrow died. It was never really about the truth behind if those other gods were real-
Ruby:It’s the piece of mind in believing in a better place for loved ones and having people watch over you. It’s truly based on blind faith in every sense but that’s okay as long as it gives peace of mind, to stay strong. Yeah....that’s why I wear this.
Yang:If that’s the “why” then I guess the unavoidable question is what happened?
The reaper leaned back in his chair, letting out a long sigh. Ruby brushed her hair out of her face while her face went pale. Then, Ruby’s eyes, her teammates watched a pair of stunning silver eyes dim, becoming akin to a clouded mirror.
Ruby:Being a huntress was all I wanted. The plan of having a family and settling down never appealed to me much. I feel, I felt like being in the field was where I was meant to be. It’s where I was most myself in a way. So the day I learned that I was pregnant was more than a little upsetting and terrifying, until dad and time itself filled me with the most genuine joy I may have ever experienced. Dustin Arc Rose, my first born son. He opened a door to a world and life I never knew I wanted to be apart of. Then...that door was shut minutes after, when Cinder and Neo stole him right from my arms. I couldn’t do a single thing about it other than blackout. That single act of good will I showed, it did nothing but kill me inside. The same way I did to her.
WB:.....
Yang:Ru-Ruby....your eyes.
Ruby:Hmm? Are they clouded? Funny, I would’ve thought your Ruby would’ve had a similar change. Maybe that’s a world exclusive thing, or a testament to the will you Ruby has to endure. Clouded eyes on a silver eyed warrior means the person has lost the desire or rather the mindset of persevering life. Be it their own life or wanting to end another’s life out of resentment, strife. My entire world fell apart when I woke up and learned nobody was able to retrieve Dustin. I was in pieces, Jaune was broken, nobody was the same. There wasn’t a soul we didn’t know that hadn’t tried to find a lead, but we never did. He was just...gone; and I couldn’t cope at all.
Weiss:I don’t think any mother could. Ruby, I’m so sorry that happened to you.
Ruby:I’m sorry too. I lashed out in anger, and shut people out. My eyes clouded and I dove into my work for a little over a year doing nothing but searching aimlessly as I took and every job back to back. The more time went by meant the more people eventually had to go back to their own, and it drove me up a wall inside. No one could reach me. I didn’t want anybody to. Not even Jaune. I....*teary eyed* I left him alone in house. There was no part of me that could even attempt to understand his pain because I was drowning in mine. I was told he tried his best to catch them at the hospital. I never hated him for not succeeding but I...he... I just, I can’t. I don’t know what I thought. All o knew was I didn’t even want him to touch me. How cruel is that? *hugging herself* I made him drown in despair in the same way I was. I wasn’t home so often that I never realized he eventually left it abandoned to live with dad. Yang and Blake I didn’t even show up to your wedding. Jaune did that much. Hell, Raven attended. Ruby Rose as a person didn’t exist any more. I was only a wandering huntress looking for answers or the challenge that might’ve ended me.
Blake:What changed?
Ruby:Oz, he did what nobody else dared to do. He fought me. I don’t think he thought twice about it. He was prepared to accept all the anger I kept inside until I eventually broke down into tears like I’m trying not to do right now. Thinking about that time is still, extremely difficult. Oz let me lament, encouraging me afterwards to finally except the fact Dustin was gone and that I needed to process it properly. First I went to you Yang, in order to have a my big sis to lean on. Can you guess how that went?
Yang:With me holding you tighter than I ever had before.
Ruby:*smiles gently* I don’t deserve you. You and Blake then came to patch with me where everyone else waited for me and helped me face Jaune. That may have been the hardest thing I’ve done. Grieving or not, the fact that I left him in such a state. I know what that does to people firsthand and yet I left. For the first time in over a year we embraced and finally grieved together. The next two years were spent trying to heal and cope. During my time away the world had fully acknowledged me. I even got a proper nickname, but it all felt hollow. Imagine that, achieving your dream but not caring? If that’s not salt in a wound then I don’t know what is.
Weiss:What’s your title?
Ruby:I am the person people want to see when evil comes to cut their story short. I am a symbol that their tale still has more to tell. Remnant has named me The Storyteller. Curtsey of Maria, who spread the name around. Healing was slow and most nights I felt a pain in my heart, but then everything changed. One moment made me dare to try again to open that shut door in my life. *looks at Yang* I held your son in my arms. Sweet little Kovu.
Blake:*smiles* Kovu? Now I wonder who named him?
Yang:*red* Huh...how about that? Hehehe, wish I could meet him. I know he isn’t technically mine but I can’t help but feel all warm now. Also I can’t believe I named him that!
Weiss:I can. Veronica’s middle name is Nala.
Yang:Okay, maybe not marrying Blake was a win? Clearly I can’t be trusted to not name my children after other cats.
Blake:The wrong kind of cat too. I’m a panther faunus, not a lion. Even if they’re blonde that’s still false advertising of what they are.
Ruby:Well Yang was the one giving birth so you lost a majority of the option to complain.
Blake:That is fair.
Weiss:You gave birth to Vee, so I think that solves who picked her first name.
Ruby rested her head in her propped up hands that rested on the table. She felt exhausted reliving that chapter of her life mentally. Still she managed to smile, then smile bigger. Her eyes unclouded and a warm feeling filling her again. What Ruby said earlier about what made her different may have reign true, but her friends could since that there was now more to it. Ruby had spiraled into an unimaginable tragedy, yet was able to bounce back thanks to loved ones. To smile as she does, it was truly a strong sight to see. Even if she wasn’t fully aware of that.
Ruby:Carmine Arc Rose, my second born and the first child to call me mommy. Followed many years later by itty bitty Garnet. He’s my little man, five years old while is big sis is seventeen now.
Yang:Damn! That’s a gap. Oh, also congratulations. Almost forgot that part. I’m glad you got to be the super awesome mom that-
Ruby:I am easily C-teir.
Yang:Oh come on! What!?
Ruby:Listen, I know I got on you all for calling yourselves bad parents, but I will hear no debate about me understand!? I flop a lot of times.
Weiss:That doesn’t make you a C-teir. That makes you a new mom, silly.
Ruby:*grumbling* I agree to disagree but thank you. It’s just a lot okay. Too much to dive into honestly.
Blake:Summarize. Give us an abbreviated version.
Ruby:Ummm so Carmine is real special kid. The absolute love I have for her is unbreakable but gods damnit if she isn’t the most... “me” I could be! In a way similar yet different from myself, Carmine has always had this sense of urgency in her and a love for the world around her. She recognizes that it’s a fragile piece we have and just how hard I’ve worked with everyone to make it. I could tell that from her when she was five. I’d sound crazy, but the fact she used her eyes at the age proves I’m not.
Yang:She has silver eyes!? Why didn’t you bring that up?
Ruby:I thought that was obvious. All of my kids were born with then. Unlike her baby brother though, Carmine was a weird little kid. She didn’t socialize well. Still doesn’t, she’s kinda comes off rude and cold because of her bluntness. She doesn’t really express all her feelings or understand others fully. One might call her a little cold but the passion she had to protect life itself is a testament to how much she cares. Carmine is also a genius fighter. To put in perspective, people use the same nickname for her that they used for Pyrrha.
WBY:Oh....
Ruby:Yeah! It’s not hyperbolic to say ever since Carmine is far beyond any skill I was at her age since she turned thirteen. You called me a monster earlier but no, I merely gave birth to a beast. I mean she could pass the huntsman exam at fifteen if I didn’t make her wait. I can’t call her arrogant, she talks with confidence because she has that right by all means. Still, besides her face, that’s where the similarities start separating; besides terrible grades in general stuff. We’ve never been in step completely. To put simply in her own words, “What I am is a hero, while she is a huntress.” That good will and mercy I try to give everyone isn’t how she rolls. It drives a real wedge that has resulted in us not going on missions together.
Blake:Is she...killing?
Ruby:She has before, and it had valid reasons entirely, but I also know for a fact she is more than capable of bringing down people without taking that step. Not all cases are that intense thank goodness. Her overall aggressiveness is the root of the problem. You don’t have to put you back into it when handling thugs. They aren’t Hazel.
Yang:Ooo okay, yeah I’m seeing what you mean now. It’s like that one comic you always read!
Ruby:Sigh...yeah she channels a bit of Batman energy and I need her to not do that all the time. I suppose being an honest soul isn’t particularly hereditary. It always feels like we aren’t enjoying each other’s company these days. I can’t blame her though. So....you know how all of you have had one serious problem that has both destabilized yourself as well as the kids and their relationship to you? *clouded eyes*
Weiss:Wait...you loosing a child wasn’t that?
Ruby:Oh it was. It just so happened that it never ended. It grew day by day. Night by night. Jaune and I were cautious with Carmine. Going as far to give her contacts and giving birth to her off the record and not at a hospital. Just in case Cinder came back. Well, Cinder and Neo came back, with my Dustin.
Nobody said anything. What do you even say to that!? All they did was let out a stifled breath and tried to gauge Ruby’s look of guilt.
Ruby:Yet again we had gotten too comfortable. It happened when Carmine was thirteen. I don’t think Garnet was even one yet. That’s when the cruelest realization hit me. My son had been alive and hearing about how his so called mother being a person who saves everyone, yet she never came for him. She had moved on, letting his eyes become clouded with such seething hate for the world she did save; the children she had after. It’s been four years since the day he attacked Carmine and helped grimm try to invade Vacou. To this day it’s been a life of staying on gaurd, searching for them as they popped up countless places to tear Remna- to tear me down and I can’t decide what part hurts the most. The amount of anger that prevents me from killing Cinder in a blink of an eye, or looking at my daughter who has told me herself that she is going to kill her older brother because I’m too weak to do so. That I’m in no way as good as the world believes me to be. *puts hood up* Like I said, C-teir mom, at best.
Blake:That’s- you can’t- there’s no way for you to reach him? Maybe if you-
Ruby:He looks at me the same way Neo and Cinder do, Blake. They raised him to hate me. Besides, he hurt Carmine. She’s just not gonna let that slide and frankly I shouldn’t either. Carmine acts tough and for the most part is, but gets terrified like everyone else. In many ways she’s still just a young girl that I wish had never chosen to become a huntress. If I had it my way she’d just be a normal girl with normal knees; but her mother’s weakness and inexperience wrapped her up in yet another war. It’s ironic. I barely remember mom and yet I ended up putting my family in very similar situation as if she lead instruction. Happy endings, I’m not sure if I get-
Yang:You’re better than mom....
Ruby:......
Yang:Yeah I said. Look I love Summer Rose but at the end of the day she wasn’t around, not that she didn’t want to be, but it’s the truth. Several years of pleasant childhood memories and a lifetime of grief is what she left me, and all you got were tales you should’ve experienced first hand. Ruby you have spent seventeen years loving your daughter unconditionally and being there for her no matter if it’s for better or worse. Yeah you might not being doing it perfectly and I have no idea how to even fathom your predicament, but at least you are there trying. Take it from me, that’s all a daughter ever wants from their mother. It’s also what makes a pretty kick ass dad. *smiles* Chin up, hero. Your story isn’t over yet after all.
Silence filled the air and Ruby’s throat ran dry. Ruby pulled out her scroll to go to her pictures and displayed one of her favorite photos for everyone to see. It was Carmine’s fifteenth birthday. Ruby didn’t lie about the resemblance. the girl had short blonde hair that stopped halfway down her neck in the back and was longer in the front, reaching shoulders. Like her mother, the tips of her hair transitioned to red. The beautiful young woman tried to her hide her smile but her gleeful silver eyes were practically twinkling with joy as Ruby hugged her tightly from behind and a tall, more solid version of Jaune was smushing one of Carmine’s cheeks with an overly dramatic kiss to it. A tiny child no older than three at most was in his big sister’s arms. Garnet had his mother’s hair and eyes but something about the chubby face definitely showed Jaune’s features. The child had red frosting on his face and was reaching eagerly for more cake somewhere out of frame.
Yang noticed the girl took page from her father and wore some regular cargo shorts, but clearly didn’t lack flair by wearing a red crop top that showed off a fresh tattoo of the Arc crest on her toroso. Knowing her sister, that tattoo was most likely practical. The family looked happy, proud; and the mother of it currently sat across the table crying with her head face down in her hands cwhile Weiss and Blake hugged her from each side. Roses may have thorns, anyone who knew roses knew a simple truth. They’re still fragile flowers.
Yang:(Carmine Arc Rose. For you and your mother’s sake, I hope things go well)
Though Carmine seemed cold by nature, people were quick learn the opposite. The most recent learner of this was a scared little girl that held on for dear life. It was nighttime, nothing but the sound of pouring rain and the distant glow of red and the warmth of Carmine holding the girl against her body while she sprinted through a mud ridden forest. The little payed no attention to the pain in her side, but the glow of roses, eyes, and flames through her tear filled eyes.
Beowulves chased frantically but then severed immediately by something the girl couldn’t understand, but it looked like the person carrying her. The dead beasts brought no comfort. Not when more followed close behind.
Girl:I-I’m sc...scared!
Carmine:Don’t look at them sweetie, it’ll be fine. Just keep being a brave little girl.
Girl:M...Mommy was back there.
Carmine:.....I know, she’ll be just fine. Your village, there are plenty of people there that will be just fine! Huff..... You got a name?
Mary:Mary.....
Carmine:Oh that’s a beautiful name, Mary. You know I was almost a Mary? Yeah my grandma was a really amazing person and I almost got named something similar to her. Mary is a very strong name!
Mary:You’re a liar! I’m sad, not strong. I want my mommy! Everything his dark and hurts and I want her!
The girl began painfully crying as Carmine followed her trail of roses to avoid getting lost. Things were getting worse. The storm raged and she could feel this girl burning in her arms. Not to mention the unsettling warmth the mixed with the cold rain against her body and dripped to puddles below. Any grimm near by could only be dealt with by many copies of her nearby, but that would only go so far when fear was out full force. Carmine’s boots felt like cement, but she still ran.
Carmine:Mary, you know what do when I miss my mommy? I sing! Yeah, my mom sings the best lullabies that made me feel super strong when I was little! It’s a magic song that makes everyone strong. How about I sing it you and they can sing it your mommy later okay!? But you have to close your eyes to really focus on the words!
Mary:*sniffling* Okay....
Baby deathstalkers swarmed the path made ahead as small Nevermores dove at her. Out of options, Carmine broke from the path, trying to rely on memory to go towards the safe zone while also singing lyrics to her favorite song.
Dream of anything; I'll make it all come true.
Everything you need is all I'll have for you~
Carmine never wavered. No matter how badly her lungs her or nearly slipped, she kept singing all the way to her destination where several other clones were seen racing towards with more civilians to injured or young to go themselves. An orphanage where Nora and Ren stood outside rushing people in while Jaune was keeping the grimm at bay. The sight brought a little ease.
Don't worry, I've got you; nothing will ever harm you.
I'm close by, I'll stay here; through all things, I will be near~
Carmine finally reached Nora and passed off the girl who’s grip weakened overtime. A few lyrics in and Carmine knew she was singing mainly for herself.
Carmine:Get her medical attention! I’m gonna go and find more! There’s still-
Jaune:Wait, it’s too dangerous!
Carmine:I know! That’s why I have to go! That fire is spreading and there’s stragglers pinned down! Dad.....I’m pinned down!
Jaune tensed up and looked at Carmine. No scraps on her and her clothes only soiled by others. It didn’t take long to realize. The man resisted the urge to run out to the ruined town and stood firmly.
Jaune:Carmine...end it. We’ll worry about the consequences later.
Carmine:....Okay.
Across the woods amongst the flames the real Carmine stood bleeding and bruised in front of two Beringel that charged over the vanishing corpses of their fallen with more grimm, her sword stabbed into the ground supporting her weight. Behind all living people that remained finally managed to flee. All except for a woman trapped by house debris. The woman watched this young huntsman stand proudly again. She wasn’t sure what happened next. All she heard was one sentence.
“Close your eyes...” before everything went white. Next thing she knew, Carmine was lifting debris off her as rain and wind washed away any evidence. A relief she didn’t care about in the slightest. She neither had the strength, or the time too. Much like Carmine, who began to pant and teeter. It was clear to the woman that whatever just happened didn’t come without cost as she watched the girl fall to her knees. Though she tried moving, Carmine was spent.
Carmine:Don’t worry...we’re safe....let’s-
Woman:Go...
Carmine:Huh?
Woman:I...my legs. Everything...I can’t move. Just go. I d-don’t think I’d las-
Carmine:Don’t talk like that! The hard parts over! I can-
Woman:Barely walk. *smiles* It’s okay. I don’t blame you. You fought hard.
Carmine:.....I...I’m sorry. *teary eyed*
Woman:Say, I know that face anywhere. Your Lady Rose’s kid. Funny, I thought your eyes were red? My daughter, Mary, she loves your mother. Makes me kinda jealous hehe, but hey I love her too. *crying* Do you know if Mary made it? She was wearing-
Carmine:A black dress, pink ribbons in her hair...
Woman:Yes! Is she safe? I saw you- one of you carry her off.
Carmine:...She’s just fine.
Woman:Good. That’s all....that.....
The woman never finished her sentence. Carmine’s body fell limp on the ground, facing the rain. Even with the cold downpour she could feel the warmth of her own tears, containing her emotions best she could as she looked through her clones eyes to watch Nora take Mary away from the survivors and out of sight to not stir further panic.
Carmine wasn’t sure how long she layed there, but it was long enough for Jaune to find her. The man didn’t say a word. The town was in shambles. Grimm were still fading and his daughter looked tired, but not in serious condition. Unlike the those who didn’t make it. Jaune put Carmine in his arms, carrying her away to safety.
Carmine:......Does mom ever save them all?
Jaune:No, but that never stops her from trying; or mourning.
She clenched her father’s shirt and let herself be fragile, to be a Rose.
Carmine:Next time. Mom and I, we’ll both get it right next time. A happy ending for all!
Jaune:Yeah, I know you will. Together....
