tw: spidey senses be letting homeboy down

summary: you're just a bit clumsy.

being popular had never been necessary to you. that being said, landing a spot in flash and liz's clique was more of a... mistake, really, than anything else. looking upon it now, as you did every other time, you cringed so hard.

since 7th grade, you'd had the most massive crush on peter parker. it all started when he'd lent you a pencil in math class. why you thought that to be attractive, you weren't sure. but it was. and you hadn't ever been very coordinated around him, to say the least. that year, you'd been partnered with him for a art project. at first, you were very excited, but didn't know that you wouldn't be able to get two words out around him.

the boy had always been picked on by flash, that wasn't news to anyone. when you had accidentally knocked over the glass of bright red paint and spilt it all over the front of his shirt, everyone laughed. they laughed because they thought you did it on purpose. they laughed because they thought it was funny. and they laughed because peter had started crying.

god, that was the most terrible day of your life.

and the worst part?

you had heard him and ned gushing over the new starwars shirt, and that he'd finally saved up enough allowance to buy it (the shirt was limited addition, and was more expensive than it needed to be) earlier that day.

the next day, you tried your hardest to explain it him that it really was just an accident, but he had made it a point to stay away from you, because the poor kid thought you were trying to bully him. not only that, but flash and his clique started to hang out around you, they claimed it was because what you had done was "epic" and "took crazy guts."

his group consisted of liz, gwen, cindy, harry, and himself. and since you had no other friends, you just let it be.

then in 8th grade, you accidentally insulted him, you were trying to make small talk, but ended up humiliating him in front of the entire grade. you'd never forget his bright red face, twisted in embarrassment, tears filling his eyes as he tried to desperately blink them back. that too, you were applauded for by your friends.

basically, every singled time (yes, there were more, but they were not to be spoken about) you'd ended up hurting him. so eventually in freshman, you'd stayed away, fantasizing from afar.

currently you were fantasizing from the bleachers, staring at peter as he did curl-ups as ned kept his feet in place.

"and i know, right? zach is so hot!" liz squealed.

cindy nodded aggressively, "he's so asking you out to the dance, trust me. ooh! i forgot to tell you! harry finally asked me. but i guess i kinda already figured that he would."

dazed, you looked up, "huh? figured who out?"

"that you like peter parker," cindy shrugged.

"yeah, but- wait, what?"

she rolled her eyes, "you've literally been checking him out all period. dude, he totally got a glow-up! did you see his abs?"

yes. duh. what do you think i've been staring at?

you hummed in response instead. "well?"

"well, what, liz?"

"are you gonna ask him?"

"no! he hates me!"

"how do you know?" cindy countered.

"because i bully him!"

"yeah," liz nodded, "i was actually gonna ask about that. do you have, like, a degradation kink or something?"

"one, that's not how those work. two, i didn't mean to do all that... i just... i freeze up around him."

"leave it to our girl to crush on a dork," the korean girl giggled.

"he's not a dork."

they rose an eyebrow at you.

"okay, well, still," you defended, "he's cute."

"girls!" a voice boomed, "you done gossiping?"

"stupid coach," you muttered, before stepping off the bleachers with your friends.

coach doss looked around, clearly last minute planning something. "uh, okay, let's do dodgeball. two teams, a and b. cindy, a. liz, b. harry, a. y/n, b. peter, a," he continued but you ignored that.

you and peter were on opposite sides. and how would that end? you pushed away those thoughts and pressed your lips together. it was fine, no big deal. just avoid him, right?

you picked up a ball, and stood there. kids were yelling and screaming, and you just stood near the corner, where no one noticed you. soon enough, it was you and just some other kids. your teammates looked at you expectantly, and you being you, panicked, not liking the sudden attention. so you squeezed your eyes tight and threw the ball as hard as you could in a random direction.

only when you heard a crack and a yelp did you look up.

and what had you done?

you'd hit peter right in the face. he was clutching his nose, which was bleeding like hell, and groaning in pain. coach blew his whistle and rushed over.

"good going," liz mouthed and your cheeks burned.

"damn, y/n, definitely busted something," harry whistled.

"oh my god, peter, i'm sorry," you rushed out.

coach doss shook his head. "definitely broken. no worries, l/n, it was an accident. go ahead and take him to the nurse. i'll write you a pass."

no worries?

you nodded and walked up to peter, avoiding any and all eye contact. the two of you walked in silence down the hall until:

"why do you hate me?" he blurted out, sounding equal parts pained and confused.

"no, i-i don't hate you!" you said quickly.

"you don't? but... you've been picking on me since... i dunno, middle school?"

"i don't- that's not-" you and two options, tell the truth or go with it. and peter deserved the truth, no matter how embarrassing it was. you inhaled, and in one breath; "ilikeyoualotijustdon'tknowhowtoactlikeanormalpersomaroundyoiandit'sreally-"

"what?"

"i, uh, i like you. like you, like you."

"is- is this another joke?"

"no!"

"i'm sorry, i don't, it's just... you, um, literally bully me."

"i get really nervous around you," you blushed, "i thought you hated me. because... of that."

"i don't hate you, either."

"really?"

"yeah," he paused for a second, "i liked you, too, but i figured you didn't feel the same because, you know."

"god, this is humiliating. i just freeze up around you. and- i, um, yeah."

"well, i don't hate you. and if you're not messing with me-"

"i'm not," you interrupted.

he smiled, "then i'd really like to hang out with you."

"like a date? o-or not, that's fine, too," you stammered.

"yeah. a date."

"cool."

you stared at him for while, "shit, i'm so sorry i broke your nose!"

he laughed as you took a step closer, brushing your fingers over his cheek. realizing how close you were to him, you jerked back, accidentally hitting his. freaking. nose.

"ow," he said quietly.

"oops."

Yeah that was basically it. Walt was an absolute genius chemist. In grad school he and his friend Elliot started a company called Grey Matter. The idea was that Walt develops incredible chemical compounds and Elliot markets them. Walt's girlfriend at the time, Gretchen, left him for Elliot. He was pissed at both of them so he left the company and sold his half of the company for practically nothing. The company would manage to be a huge success and Elliot and Gretchen would become billionaires.

Fast forward about 20 years and Walt is now a chemistry teacher and he absolutely fucking hates it. The chemistry itself is so basic is boring because he's teaching entry level stuff to teenagers. The job might be rewarding if he were reaching some kids who were fascinated by this stuff and eager to learn... but they're teenagers. They don't give a fuck about any of that. Worse yet this job pays so little that it's not enough to make ends meet. Walt has to work a second job at a car wash that he fucking hates. Being a cashier isn't so bad, but when they're shorthanded they need him to work outside washing the cars and he finds that demeaning especially when a customer is one of the kids from class. Absolutely disgraceful.

So if Walt is such a genius chemist why doesn't he work for some other R&D company? Why did he completely give up on that dream and settle for a life he absolutely hates? The series doesn't really ask that question let alone give a direct answer so fan theory here. If you watch Walt work he has a toxic and volatile personality. He is aggressive and belittling to everyone around him. The guy knows his shit but he will do anything he can to get his way except play nice with others. My guess is he developed a reputation in the industry that he was so awful to work with that everyone decided he was more trouble than he was worth.

So enter the cancer diagnosis. He doesn't have money for chemo, he doesn't have health insurance, he is taking a long hard look at his own mortality and how he's wasted his life doing things that made him miserable. Before he even tells his family what's going on his brother in law comes to visit. Homeboy's in the DEA and brought a slideshow to show off a meth lab he just raided. Something clicked for Walt in that moment. Cooking meth is chemistry. The local talent is laughably bad at it. He could very easily be the best meth cook in the world. Despite the challenges of making the best crank out there the job itself isn't very respectable in modern society. People would hate him if they ever found out, and honestly a part of him still thinks it's wrong, but if he has cancer he's doing something really shitty for a good reason. He is living on borrowed time and when he finally dies his family will be in a really bad spot financially between his medical bills and funeral expenses. If he can just scrape enough money together to cover his expenses and maybe leave them with a little something for the future is that really such a bad thing?

And then we come back to Elliot and Gretchen. It's Elliot's birthday and Walt's wife makes him attend the party. By now Walt has told his family about the cancer and his wife thinks with all their money they can help him. Elliot knows Walt. He's a very prideful man. Just offering to pay his medical bills outright won't work so he offers Walt a job. It's just what he wanted. A big R&D think tank job where he can think of all the ways to save the world and discover new chemical mysteries. There's just one problem. Walt is not the boss. He's still bitter at Elliot for what happened and doesn't want to work for him. He also quickly realizes that his wife told them all about the cancer and it's just a pity job. This infuriates Walt so he tells Elliot to go fuck himself.

In the very last episode Walt's final conversation with Skylar he admits that he did it all for himself. He was good at it and it made him really feel alive. The idea that he was trying to afford cancer treatment or even trying to provide for his family was all a load of crap. When presented with a way out he refused because he wanted to be the big man in charge.

When I see Breaking Bad memes and people making jokes like "lol if only they had universal healthcare" I get it, but I always just go:

Season 4, Episode 1: An Extremely Chaotic and Incoherent Review

What’s this??? Tumblr user demetriandelibinaryboyfriends MAKING POSTS again??? It’s more likely than you think!!!

I refrained for a hot sec so as not to spoil anyone, but now??? NO MERCY, BITCHES.

Full disclaimer that this “review” (and the rest of the episode “reviews” I do) is basically just a bunch of rambling thoughts and word vomit and probably not at all cohesive. That’s just how I have to roll sometimes!

The Good:

Johnny throwing a water bottle at Demetri is 10/10

Neat!!! Hawk apologized for stealing the medal of honor and beating up Nate for charity money!!! Big fan of that. I wish that scene was longer but the fact he's trying to apologize to people besides Demetri is something!!!

GOD this fucker Demetri can't go for more than like 5 minutes without being with Eli huh? Like literally as SOON as MD and EF take a break, Dem wanders over to talk to him. He can't stay away in the least

Random thing that might warrant analysis later!!! Demetri's kinda flipped from his S1 self. It used to be that he was way too terrified to stand up to his enemies (i.e. the library scene), but had no issue mouthing off at his friends when he thought they were being stupid. Now, he has no issues telling off people like Tory, but he does seem to have trouble standing up to his friends (i.e. Chris and Nate). My theory is that it's because Dem's learned the hard way that when he's too rude and snippy at his friends, losing them is a very real possibility. He kinda accidentally drove Eli away by not knowing when to stop being critical, and I think he has concerns about losing his new friends the same way.

HAHAHAHA MIGUEL YOU DUMBFUCK, there's all kinds of awkwardness between his mom and his sensei when he brings Ali up and it all flies right over the top of his cute little hairdo

Love that Sam at least tried to reach out to Robby. Like I knew damn well it wasn't going to go well, and it made my heart hurt, but Sam isn't giving up on her friends that easy!!! I do miss their friendship, but I can understand why it's prolly not gonna be a thing again.

Sam and Miguel just vibin as a couple, no petty contrived drama around that so far and I love that

Aight I don't hate Robby x Tory actually, they've both been through it and have rough family lives. It's nice to see both of them have at least one person to be there for them when they've lost pretty much everyone else.

Demetri and Eli bonding over sparring stages and highkey saving the dojo teamup solely through the power of being nerdy over martial arts. Like. The absolute perfect fusion of their old interests and their new interests.

"Eli's a design whiz" homeboy's so proud of his boyfriend I stg

The Bad:

DAMN IT DEMETRI DEFEND YOUR BOYFRIEND

Like I understand why he didn't for the reasons I talked about above but it still hurts!!!

Also Chris and Nate totally cockblocked my boys, for shame

I'm sure this will get me slain on the spot but I...honestly don't care that much about the Kreese/Silver relationship at the moment??? Like I think it's a cool plot for sure but at the moment it's getting more screen time than I would like XD I want more screen time dedicated to the combined dojos tbh, in all their chaos and dysfunction.

Besides, we know Silver's gonna end up coming back to CK, so dragging out the "reveal" of it seems kinda unnecessary

"WHAT!!!" you scream. "YOU'RE ONLY WATCHING THE SHOW FOR GAY HAWK AND DEMETRI MOMENTS!!!" You're right. I am. I'm a rat bastard who plays favorites with gay karate ships.

That's basically it this was a good episode

I rewrite Sky High

okay so, disclaimer: sky high was actually pretty damn good for it’s time and a lot of the plot twists/tropes used in it were still just starting out and not as commonplace as they are today. so 10/10 really good movie.

Also as i was writing this, it turned into half analysis of what’s already in the movie and half things I would change about the movie so,,, yeah. enjoy!

So the point about Sky High is that and the way the school and hero society as a whole works, is that you, as the audience, are supposed to look at it and know that it’s a flawed system. We’re supposed to see it as an injustice that kids are sorted into hero or sidekick- Sorry, I mean ‘Hero Support,’ on your first day of school based on something you can’t even control.

(This movie was my hero academia-ing it up before it was cool.)

Anyway, the movie calls a lot of attention to it in the beginning, but then doesn't actually give it the resolution it deserves in the end. Which, not cool guys.

The Hero/Sidekick debacle is, on the whole, a very thinly veiled metaphor for the problems minorities face. Specifically, those of the alphabet mafia, or LGBTQ, as we’re more commonly known.

There are a lot of examples for this so I’ll speed through the big ones real quick:

Will’s nerves regarding not having attraction to girls superpowers?

The way he tries to fake having an attraction to girls superpowers to get approval from his dad?

Being literally outed in front of his whole class (by someone named Boomer no less) and then immediately trying to hide it from his parents as long as possible?

The constant references to being a ‘late bloomer’. Doesn’t it remind you of the common phrases: ‘it’s just a phase’ or ‘don’t worry. You’ll start liking [opposite gender] eventually.’ ?

The scene in the kitchen, right after Will introduces the Sidekick Squad (and yes, that is what I’ll be referring to them as for the rest of this essay tumblr post). Will is so obviously trying to gauge how his dad is going to take his friends being sidekicks and also him being a sidekick. I just, this is so blatantly a coming out scene? How does anybody not see it as that?

(also the dad talking so offhandedly about bigotry and the hatred his own father had for sidekicks??? Who else has been there?)

Will telling his dad that he doesn’t care, that he’s proud of being gay to be a sidekick is just,,, *chef’s kiss*

With all of this backing behind Will and him growing into not being ashamed of his lack of powers, My first change would be that Will does not, in fact receive his father’s super strength. It’s just such a cop out! The movie had all this amazing build up, and this brilliant metaphor it could have used and, instead, they threw it all away.

The sudden acquisition of powers and immediate acceptance by his peers, feels too close to someone being ‘fixed’. That Will wasn’t good enough the way he was and had to be better, had to be his father in order to be good enough.

So, no. Will remains powerless.

Instead of the revelation of ‘he’s strong’, we get to let the Sidekick Squad shine.

Lash and Speed still cause a fight between Warren and Will, but when Will is under the table, the sidekicks actually do something.

Will knocks the table over (not, like, lifting Warren up but something closer to pushing him off. I mean, even I could push upwards from underneath a table fast enough that if someone is standing on it, they’d lose their balance and fall to the ground) and that starts things.

The Sidekick Squad all grab forgotten lunch trays or cartons of milk or something and throw it at Warren. It isn’t long then that the whole scene devolves into a food fight (Zach, at least, does not have good aim and probably hits a bystander accidentally, drawing more people in, until the whole cafeteria is involved.) The fight turns into something more playful, but still with that bit of an undertone of trying to actually hurt each other.

Ethan melts at one point and (accidentally) causes Warren to slip and land on his back, Magenta probably punches someone (not Warren) and Zach is just mouthing off to anybody who gets close enough. Near the end, right before Principal Powers shows up, Layla finally gets the right idea and just fire extinguishes the shit out of Warren.

(Side note here: I am very much also nixing the Layla crushes on Will plotline. I love best friends to lovers just as much as the next person but… no. Let kids see boy/girl friendships!

Instead, I will be inserting a Layla/Warren love story and you can consider this the first scene on the road for that.)

Anyway, the whole Sidekick Squad plus Warren ends up in the detention room and all of them are covered in food. Right after Principal Powers leaves, the Sidekick Squad is immediately talking excitedly to each other about how cool they just were and what they did. Basically it’s very wholesome and they’re all hyping each other up and then one of them, Layla or Will, excitedly turns to Warren and goes, ‘and that thing you did with the fireballs? God! I don’t think Lash is going to have any eyebrows for a month’ and the tension between them all but drops.

Warren, of course, tries to push them away and not get involved with their ridiculousness, but the Sidekick Squad is stubborn and by the end of detention, everyone but Warren is in agreement that he’s a part of the Squad now. They will not leave him alone. They also start hanging out at the Paper Lantern all the time just to annoy/make fun of him in that loving way friends do.

(I just want Warren to be a part of the Squad guys. Will calls him his best friend at the end but what did the movie actually do to show they were friends? Nothing, that’s what. I want that fixed.)

So the cafeteria fight boosts the whole Squad’s reputation, right? People think those sidekicks are pretty cool, and they get their fifteen minutes of fame. Only… Will gets a little hooked on the feeling of being popular. He doesn’t want to be a capital-h Hero or anything! But, well… he’d be lying if he didn’t like people thinking he was cool.

The others don’t really care all that much about being cool, but Will does. He hates that he does but what is he supposed to do? He can’t change how he feels. So he starts trying to make himself more popular and sometimes tries dragging his friends into stupid schemes.

And then enter stage right, one Gwen Grayson.

I prefer Gwen being Royal Pain’s daughter, actually. A girl who would’ve had no stock in this fight but her mother, who is sickly and weak and survives mostly because her daughter takes care of her, practically brainwashes Gwen to do her bidding.

Gwen is a minion here, and also, perhaps, a victim.

At first, she follows her mom’s orders and charms Will into dating her. She also feeds into his desire to gain popularity but can’t, in this world, break him from his friends. Actually, Will brings Gwen along to the Sidekick Squad hangouts and, slowly, she becomes a part of the group too.

She starts to doubt her mother. Starts to care for Will and the Squad.

She throws the party, and the Squad is all invited (trying to break them up isn’t conducive to the Plan her mother has anyway and wouldn’t work besides) but she lures Will away to make out and… other things, and he brings her to the Sanctum for privacy just like before. She still steals the pacifier (or whatever death ray equivalent you want idk) but she and Will don’t break up at the end of the night.

It’s not actually until two days later, right before the dance is going to start, does Gwen decide she can’t stand back and let this happen anymore. She spills the whole plot and her betrayal to Will when he comes to pick her up for the dance. She’s crying and apologizing and basically expecting to be hated forever by the only people she thinks ever actually liked her.

And, well. Will is furious at her for lying but there’s more important things to deal with at the moment. They’ll talk more about this and he’ll be angry, but that’s all going to be later. Right now they have a school to save so he grabs her hand and starts running to warn the rest of their friends.

Things happen mostly as canon from that point with minor changes.

It’s Warren who pulls Layla into a kiss before they all split off into groups, telling her to kick ass and stay safe before sprinting off after Speed. There have been scenes throughout the movie where the two are very obviously getting closer and are into each other. And then, before the dance, while Gwen and Will we’re technically going as a couple, the whole Squad was going as a group.

When Warren and Layla saw each other all dolled up, it’s very cliché. Warren says she looks nice and Layla visibly gulps at his outfit of a button down and suit pants, sleeves rolled up to his elbows (because homeboy does not wear a full tux you can fight me on this).

And also, Will doesn’t fight Royal Pain by himself. Instead, Gwen is there with him and they don’t fight with super strength. Gwen’s been helping Will build an arsenal of gadgets a la Batman and the two face off against her mom together, Gwen with her powers, and Will acting as half support and half as a watered-down Batman who still needs some more training before he’s totally polished.

The school falls from the sky, but Gwen buys them time by keeping the anti gravs working through sheer force of will, while Will holds off her mom from attacking her while she’s vulnerable and concentrating. Magenta eventually kills the EMP or whatever it was, and the day is saved.

Gwen passes out, cause ~drama~ but she ends up okay so don’t worry. She’s just exhausted.

The sidekicks get their recognition and then immediately bounce because dances suck and they all agree that they should go to the Paper Lantern instead to celebrate cause they’re tired, alright? Saving the day is hard.

So it’s all of them, a little battered and bruised and exhausted, crowded into this corner booth and laughing and being kids. The camera does it’s fade to comic book page thing, and the narration is something more along the lines of:

“Royal Pain and her cronies got locked away. Gwen and I talked things out, and she’s getting help for all the stuff her mom did to her. We’re taking things slow in the meantime.

The school is undergoing a lot of changes to the curriculum and getting rid of the whole ‘hero/sidekick’ divisions. (Mostly at the urging of my parents… and Layla). Next year is going to look a lot different, I think.

But it’ll be a good different, just like we are. None of us were what we were expected to be, and, I think, we’re going to keep defying expectations. There’s a whole world out there that needs changing.

And I can’t think of a better group of friends to do it with.”

THE END

(just give me found family saves the day by being themselves rather than somebody else, give me them saving the day because they care about each other, give me them fighting for what’s right and fixing things. please i am b e g g i n g.)

Additional nitpicks that are small but Very Important to Me

Coach Boomer is still called coach Boomer because there is no way I am missing out on the ‘okay, boomer’ jokes

Layla stays like Layla, but i’d like for the movie to stop trying to make her seem annoying for her beliefs or like she’s wrong to be so vocal about them. Her caring about things that are wrong ends up as the butt of too many jokes and i… do not like that.

Why so many dad/son scenes? Why this janky imbalance parenting dynamic between the Strongholds. Knock that shit off. I want happy functional family thank you very much

Mr Boy and the mad scientist are very obviously in a relationship

Wait, actually: mr boy, mad scientist and Boomer are al in a poly relationship and are ridiculous about it

I’d like to see more of the sidekick classes going over like, ‘the boring’ parts of the job, and teaching the kids how to deal with the aftermath of the heroes heroics, just to hammer in the fact that the system is fucked up and that it’s messed up that the heroes get all the recognition while the sidekicks are left to clean up the mess

Use actual 14 year old actors? These kids look like seniors.

Or, if you want more ‘mature’ characters make it so sky high is like,,, a finishing school or smth. Something kids 16 and over go to.

(What the fuck kind of parent thinks that their freshman child dating a senior is a good idea?? An almost adult coming onto a fourteen year old??? Are you trying to make Will’s parents (particularly the dad) seem like irresponsible assholes??)

Gwen is, at most, a year above Will in this rewrite, kay?

Ten Characters I Fell in Love With in 2021 pt. 3

All the characters in part 3 will be from Killer and Healer because I honestly loved all of the characters from Killer and Healer, save for a few. Part 1 here and Part 2 here

1. Song Rong - Killer and Healer

I just...how can you not love him?! Like, genuinely, how? How can you not love him? He’s such a good subordinate who only wants the best for Jiang Yuelou and who has a lot of love in his heart. President of the Yuezhi fanclub. Like, this bitch knew from ep. 1 that Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi were going to be a thing. He knew. Song Rong best boy, honestly

2. Sun Yongren - Killer and Healer

I honestly found him irritating the first time I watched K&H but after rewatching it a million times, I realized that he’s a really good friend, not just to Jiang Yuelou but to Song Rong as well. He’s also really smart even though some of the shit that comes out of his mouth is really fucking stupid. Jiang Yuelou wouldn’t have kept him as a subordinate for as long as he did if he was stupid. Jiang Yuelou doesn’t have time for stupid people. Vice-President of the Yuezhi fanclub. Homeboy literally suggested that Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi get a portrait painted of them together. I wish he and Yiren had gotten their happy ending

3. Wang Meng - Killer and Healer

I’m honestly a little shook by this one because I wasn’t expecting to love him as much as I did. Yes, he did bad things but he just wanted to be a good son and make his mom happy and keep her safe (fuck you Jinma Hall). And he fucking helped Chen Yuzhi and Jiang Yuelou bring down Zhao Jingming? He didn’t have to do that but he did. His death actually made me really sad like I wish he didn’t have to die...he would have made a great asset to the police station, honestly (he wouldn’t have joined but like...think of the potential)

4. Chen Keying - Killer and Healer

Another character I’m shocked I fell in love with because she was absolutely annoying as fuck but she grew on me. I think once she sort of...grew out of her overly prissy phase and started being nice to Chu Ran and Chu Min and fell in love with Yongren is when I started to be like...alright, you’re not so bad. She definitely grew on me

6. Jin Dacheng - Killer and Healer

This son of a bitch really surprised me. I honestly hated him/found him annoying from the beginning but as the drama went on, I’m like...okay, you’re not so bad. And then rewatching the drama a million fucking times I’m like...alright, you’re really not so bad. Chaotic Police Siblings honestly. Will I ever forgive him for what he did to Chen Yuzhi in ep. 12? No. But he gets to be on this list for everything else that he did, mainly gunning Zhan Tianqing down

7. Chu Min - Killer and Healer

A BABY! He’s so happy and wants to make his sister proud and he just has a lot of love in his heart and even Zhan Junbai is like...I like this one. Like how can you hate that face of his? Another golden retriever puppy whom everyone loves and his death is so fucking sad. It hurts

8. Bai Jinbo - Killer and Healer

The ultimate dad. Honestly. The dad energy this man exudes is just *chefs kiss*. I mean, he really is Jiang Yuelou’s father and he’s such a dad to Chen Yuzhi as well (like father-in-law material) and his betrayal to Jiang Yuelou hurt me so fucking bad. Like damn sir, why. Why why why? But we ignore that and focus on the good things because he really was a good character. The ultimate dad and that’s how I’m going to remember him

9. Yuan Zining - Killer and Healer

Honestly, best sister to Yu Tangchun. Best sister. I can’t believe she would sacrifice herself for Yu Tangchun but she did and it’s like...damn. They weren’t even blood siblings but she still did that. She was also so concerned about him when he got stabbed and just...she’s a good girl, okay?

10. Xiao Bai - Killer and Healer

We stan (1) kitty cat. Honestly, I love this damn cat. Such a good kitty. Founder of the Yuezhi fanclub. He’s just such a good kitty and he’s the one who alerted Jiang Yuelou about Chen Yuzhi fainting and just...he’s a good kitty, okay? A good kitty

Or how to ruin a show that until then was being flawlessly written.

Going by chronological order with @shieldagent93 having to stand my rants...

~In 5x01, two of the three sentences said by Jemma had the word "Fitz". It's too much. It's like if she's always thinking about him.

~I... What's happening?? When do they explain what's going on?

~I don't like this Deke guy.

~5x05 was great. It explained a lot of the doubts I had. Also seeing Hunter again was amazing.

~What the fuck are they doing shooting at a fuckin quinjet wtf.

~5x08 has me like "how does time travel works in Marvel?". Like... They're in the future but they also raised Robin. Guess it's a Marvel thing. Also i would really like Fitz a little more if he had a better control of his outburst. I know, he's frustrated, but I guess screaming angry men just trigger me... And he has an ugly as fuck beard now. Anyway, May looks younger every season. The woman grows old in reverse.

~Done with 5x10. My Elena feelings are hurting. Also someone in the writing room as an amputation kink... Honestly this season is being the least cool (which is still better than what I'm used but, still). The dystopan society and everything related feels clumsy.

That's why she's on thin ice instead of on the bottom of the ocean like Fido and Simpsons.

Hi! I was just curious what you didn't like about the ouat 5x11 'I will always find you'? I neutral about it and was just wondering your take.

I mean, I don’t hate it like I hate season six for example, I mostly find it cringey and poor writing, for two reasons:

a) Emma using the nickname “Hook”. Sis. You’re going to the Underworld to bring him back to life. I know you still have some reservations and I understand them, but sis. Homeboy has a name - a name that you have progressively used more and more, in a show that you trust and love him and see the real him. And you’re doing an ultimate show of love; risking your own safety to bring him back after someone else took advantage of his sacrifice, rendering it pointless. Use his name.

At the time the show was airing, I saw someone suggest that it was a choice so that they could use that clip in promo material, and not everyone who doesn’t watch this show knows who “Killian” is, so the use of “Hook” makes it more clear that Wow a protagonist is marching into the Underworld to save Captain Hook I’d better watch it. And to be honest, that’s a valid take. Still a poor choice though (and the person who said that had even agreed that it was poor), and a show of how the writers had chosen to favour cheap tactics to lure audiences in instead of actually investing in their writing and knowing their characters.

b) IT’S NOT A CS THING. I’m not even a huge fan of Snowing, particularly after they started butchering them since s4, but YOU DON’T DO THAT. I don’t care that Emma is their daughter. You don’t take something from one ship and put it on another, unless it’s their AU version of it. Parallels are fine, and Snowing has a lot of them with CS and that’s cool, but that’s straight up copying. And again it feels like it’s a cheap, cheesy way to lure audiences in, like, “Hey! Did you watch the first two to three seasons of the show and then gave up because the show got crappy? LOOK HERE! A PROTAGONIST IS USING HER PARENTS’ THEME!!! WE R VERY LOYAL 2 THE SHOW, WE SWERR!!111!”

Hm. Maybe I do hate it in the same vein that I hate season 6. But I swear, not as much 😅

with echo he was pretty emotionless, like you could tell it hurt that echo was mad at him and felt like she didn’t know him anymore but he was able to maintain his cool and put the cause above her

he was trying So Hard to convince clarke why he was doing this, he didn’t really try to win echo over and get her to understand, but he wants clarke to understand So Bad because its Her that keeps him grounded, she Is the head to his heart and he wants so bad for her to say “yeah, i get it, this is what's right” because he wants that validation and that assurance thats still nagging at him

since i mentioned bellamy being the heart i also wanted to say that i think its interesting to look at his general emotional nature and then compare it to the great lack of emotion the disciples teach

i think the reason this attracted bellamy partly is because his emotions had let him down, or at least he viewed it that way, because he believes that all the bad things he did and all the bad things that happened to him came from him being too emotional, so it makes sense that he would be drawn to this group of rationalists while still being able to uphold his need to protect and save others (for all mankind)

his voice was literally breaking, he was about to Cry because clarke felt so betrayed and was So upset, homeboy was clearly Devastated

that whole convo just Broke me man it really Hurted what can i say

i also literally had to pause the scene of clarke being tortured like 10 times, i would play it and get upset at my girl being hurt and have to pause it, am i far too emotionally attached to her? yes.

also a real quick fuck you to jason because why the Hell did we not get bellamy seeing the radio calls in clarke’s mind??? it was literally a Perfect time for it

also i’m very concerned as to where the rest of the gang went, but since they have the helmets could they use that to find the other stone and get back to sanctum? idk but i worry about them

also we still haven’t seen Gaia, like where the fuck is Gaia? i hope there's as scene with clarke and indra that just goes “where’s gaia?” “i thought you had gaia” “what i thought You had gaia” cuz seriously where is that girl (ALSO who the fuck knocked her out?? and also didn't that person deactivate the sanctum stone? (which i hate that sheidheda has) like i’d really like to go back to that scene we haven’t talked about it in very long and i think its time)

im just really hoping murphy doesn’t die next episode or at all

Incoherent thoughts about A Court of Silver Flames (2021) by SJM

Do not expect this to be a critical, unbiased review at all. Eet just ease what eet ease. Spoilers ahead laddies.

*unwanted preface*

Okay, so like, you know those things that are neither objectively perfect nor unproblematic yet you love them and are attached to them anyway? Yeah, this is me with SJM’s writing. See, I been with Sarah and Throne of Glass since March of 2015 and with ACOTAR since the summer of 2015 when I was 13 and honestly, ACOTAR in particular occupied a decent portion of my formative teen years. Eventually, when I was about 16 I sort of ended up getting distracted from YA books and went into my thot and kpop era. A main reason for this is that I found ACOFAS particularly disenchanting. This ain’t about that book (sigh) but let’s just say as much as I was still attached to and in love with the ACOTAR world, I was still able to get very annoyed by the decreased quality of the writing and also the evident projecting Sarah was doing onto Feyre with regards to her own life and experiences (ahem). No, the lack of developed POC in the book had nothing to do with it ironically.

So basically, since the spring of 2018 I haven’t read any SJM yet I never fell out of love with the books either. I’ve sworn off TOG after whatever the hell EOS was, but ACOTAR was always more special and close to my heart by tenfold, honestly. See, the best day of my 2016 was the day I found out ACOTAR was getting the extra 3 novels and 2 novellas. ACOFAS was a dumpster fire but I was actually surprised to really, really enjoy A Court of Silver Flames while it obviously has a couple (multiple) sus facets to it. The susness aside, I thoroughly felt at home reading Nesta’s book despite how irrational that might sound. No, I’m not here to say the book was objectively good but I’m here to say I still enjoyed it despite my love-hate relationship with SJM and her writing. :( :( :(

That being said imma still roast tf out of a couple aspects of it. :)

Aight wbk that SJM like, projects a lot onto feyrhys right. I’m not even gonna deny it. Like as horrible as it sounds, when feyrhys were, like, struggling as a couple and shit in ACOMAF, that’s when I loved them the most but then the shitstorm that was ACOWAR hit and they couldn’t go without boning every two seconds or calling each other mates and shit and basically every character in the book started kissing their asses (except Nesta) to the point where they were infallibly good and powerful and everyone’s heads were lodged up their asses... I got PISSED OFF then, right.

Now, in ACOSF (is that correct?), they were side characters and, gratefully, that romance between them was toned down. But here are some things concerning feyrhys and the Court of Dreams that irked tf out of me, and the implications that they had for Nesta (who is perhaps one of the baddest bitches ever) had me feeling homicidal towards the IC:

Every single time Nesta said shit about Rhys and then Cassian got mad I wanted to SCREAM like yooo let her roast tf out of him like yeah I get Rhys lowkey did a lot for her both directly and indirectly but cmoooooon not everyone needs to be riding his dick like the man HATED Nesta from the get-go. I loved the idea that someone in the book lowkey abhors Rhys just for the TEA it gave me. Like yeah, okay Cassian, I get that he’s your bro but he can SUCK NESTA’S DICK also like my girl is a DEATH GOD.

Here me out: the Inner Circle completely dehumanized Nesta, they completely disregarded her personal autonomy and caged her in which is ironically the very behavior that was villainized when Tamlin did it to Feyre. First of all they restricted her movement, they made decisions FOR her, they withheld from her knowledge about her own powers, they decided what’s best for her and acted like she was a rabid dog the entire time. Only Cassian and Azriel seem more blameless in this regard, but the level of scorn and abohorence and moralizing Feyre, Elain, Rhys, Amren and Mor did towards Nes made my blood boil. At the end of the day, the Inner Circle did the VERY THING they hated being done to Feyre. Whatever happened to the freedom they professed? The autonomy they decided all members of their court deserved? That was all bullshit, or was this switch-up SJM’s way of creating justifiable conflict between Nesta and the Inner Circle... either way, there was no closure about this and the way they dictated Nesta’s behavior whilst completely mistreating her imo.

More on Nesta’s treatment - okay listen the way the narrative had every character acting like Nesta was fricking scum and for WHAT??? Okay, she didn’t hunt when Feyre and they were poor, she was bitchy, she hates the Fae... okay, why is Nesta still being punished for her mistakes like this by the Court? Does their forgiveness only apply to those in their clique? They’re acting like her drinking and sleeping around and her general bitchy behavior is sooooo toxic when they ALL coped with their respective trauma in questionable ways in their centuries of living. And the narrative never condemned them for this behavior either... like cmon they had an “intervention” about Nesta like if she needed to reach a certain moral standing to be lovable or something. Seems to me that only Cassian was willing to love her, bruises and all... “There’s nothing broken to be fixed. You are helping yourself. Healing the parts of you that hurt too much - and perhaps hurt others too”. But as beautiful as that it, it seems the IC see Nesta’s healing as her “redemption arc” when I never saw her as a villain or monster to begin with. They acted like she had to become deserving of their acceptance. Bullshit.

No cus more on this... Cassian is the only person who defended Nesta, the only person that wanted to help her heal and grow when everyone else wanted to fix her. He was the only person who was kind to her from the original trilogy (i.e. not counting Emerie and Gwyn). He stood up for her and I’ll gush about them in the next section, but the dynamic between Nesta and the IC was the least enjoyable aspect of the book for me. It was clear SJM wanted to spur Nesta towards the path to healing yet only figured out how to do so whilst only keeping feyrhys as the nucleus of this arc, and so she had them force Nesta into her “special journey” (because she loves them so much, cus they’re sooooo perfect right *rolls eye*), yet, the narrative didn’t quite condemn them for their toxicity towards Nesta at ALL, even towards the end. The good thing is that Nesta did not become an ass-kisser throughout the story and laud them for “helping her” every waking second. Only Cassian didn’t shun her for her inner negativity but embraced her. And Az was pretty cool too, can’t hate him.

Ahem, the ending: okay, I’m not even capping, but I hated that Nesta lost her power for feyrhys. I get that she genuinely did it out of love and shit and I’m not even gonna lie, the thought of feyrhys dying had me on the verge of tears cus as much as I hate them, I also love those bitches. Yet, the culmination of Nesta’s power was, what?, to save feyrhys. This way, the narrative put Feyre at the center of Nesta’s narrative towards the end. And Nesta lost that Death God power that she basically EARNED in that Cauldron. This is the biggest flaw of the story. She fought against her own power to give it up... for Feyre. Like??? What??? Why was that baby arc even necessary????? Why was Nesta giving up her power necessary to fulfil her healing arc which was the POINT of the book??? Like what?????? It left a sour taste in my mouth. No- an abhorrent acidic bitter taste in my mouth.

Elain. I CANNOT STAND THIS GIRL. She completely abandoned Nesta and for WHAT??? For Feyre??? This only served to reiterate from the narrative’s POV that Nesta was scum and again, idk WHY. And also, why tf does this girl mistreat Lucien like this??? LUCIEN AKA MY FAVORITE CHARACTER???

I just don’t get how the narrative reiterated that Tamlin is the worst of the worst when you got Rhys hiding shit from Feyre, hiding knowledge of Nesta’s power from Nesta, all of that. Like, was the entire point of ACOMAF not for Feyre to embrace her power and become her best self? Rhys never for one second tolerated withholding Feyre’s power from her. So why tf does this apply to Nesta? Cus she’s unhealthy? Okay... so what??? Why villainize her like this and imply she’s undeserving of her power and a waste of life??? I’M LAUGHING SO HARD RN LIKE WHERE DID THIS EVEN COME FROM??? What did my girl do that was sooooo bad that yall needed to treat her like this. Tell me why feyre and amren and varian and rhys all acted like Tamlin in this book. Cardi voice WHAT WAS THE REASON. I AM SO MAD ABOUT THIS CUS THEY ACTED LIKE THE FRICKING MORALISING SYCHOPHANTS THEY CLAIM TO HATE.

Like bitch??? They’re like those youth pastors that reiterate how broken and messed up people with mental illness are? Acted like Nesta screwing guys was the worst thing ever when they should have embraced her? Like I get she would push them away but really??? “Waste of life”???

So we gon gloss over how Amren was insisting Nesta shut up about the baby business to Feyre (aka hiding shit from her)? How she was implying that Rhys should conquer all of Prythian? Hear me out, even as someone from a Caribbean country that was colonized by the whites, it actually doesn’t bother me when the theme of conquest comes up, like, this is a fantasy novel and colonization does not exist within the same context for me. That being said, like, it felt as if the narrative telling me lil Rhysie is just sooooo perfect that he needs to be High King. Like, I respect the fact that Rhys has no wish to do so. Homeboy never seemed to care for conquest beyond ensuring his Court’s prowess and safety so WHAT WAS THE REASON AMREN??? Like? What kinda crack was Amren on this entire book???

The worldbuilding... listen, the politics and history felt all over the place, felt incoherent and flat honestly. Didn’t bother me as much as it did in ACOWAR but it was just *meh*, not good. Not horrible, but not great. I preferred the world when it was directly the result of Beauty and the Beat and East of the Sun, West of the Moon.

The Fae have lost their *magic*: no cus what I loved about the first book was that the Fae were one with the Courts and felt very fleshed out in terms of their powers and shit, but now only Eric and Lucien and Tamlin and sometimes Rhys have that same magic for me. Like... the sensuality of the Fae in terms of their actual Celtic roots, that which felt whimsical and immersive in the first book, feels lost to me. I can’t explain it but I feel less nuance and orthodoxy in their portrayal. However, I DID love this one line featuring none other than the loml : “Amid the pink and white blossoms, the cold-faced Autumn Court heir looked truly faerie - as if he’d stepped out of the tree, and his one and only master was the earth itself”. LIKE I SALIVATED THAT IS MY MAN.

Okay let’s talk about the smut like I didn’t like the word choice as usual like quit with the euphemisms and say cock and goooooo. That being said like, okay, I like how she set up the physical dynamic between Nesta and Cassian cus the sex wasn’t some big romantic climactic build-up like how it was in acomaf like they were being NASTY from the get-go and I respect that drip. Like she did not cap on how porny the smut was and thank God it wasn’t some cliche romantic honeymoon type shit, like it was almost on the ao3 level of smutty goodness. All it was was missing was coarse language and hard kinks but in general, I liked the Nessian smut in this book more than the feyrhys smut in particularly ACOWAR and ACOFAS, like Nessian just do not cap.

Listen... you see that whole part when Nesta was like imagining how awesome it would be to dance Lucifer’s Bachata with Az and Cassian? Yeah, my girl just let her thoughts run wild. Like Nesta makes Feyre look naïve. Like you know how Tumblr porn in 2016 used to be with the aesthetic type shit? That’s Feyre, but Nesta is like on Pornhub level and it’s so fitting I was YELLIN lowkey. I feel like less importance was placed on how meaningful the sex and shit should be in the book and I respect that.

YOU SEE WHEN NESTA TOLD FEYRE ABOUT THE BABY!!! I WAS CHEERING HER ON. No cause they were being so nasty to Nesta especially Amren and then Feyre entered with all of her moralising shit like honey you KNOW damn well what you’re doing to Nesta is what you hate being done to you. Like damn right tell her, cus I could not STAND the double standard.

The whole training the women thing was a nice touch. It was kinda corny but also sweet. That being said, I laughed so hard when I realized how this entire book was Nesta’s quarter-life hippie rebirth where she learns to meditate and work out and read romance books and face her inner demons like this is some real New York college shit. All that was missing was a Starbucks.

Cassian. Man I love this man so much. No like he displayed peak dilf behavior. I think his attractiveness isn’t based on his bravery or his hotness but his humility man. Like he’s not a thot, he’s respectful, yet tough, yet contemplative. He’s contented with his life station yet wants to always be a better person yet is such a strong rock who really loves Nesta not despite her flaws but because they are part of her. I love the way he stood up to Rhys a lot, he didn’t shame her when she was awful to him, and he is protective (annoyingly so sometimes) but he really wanted her to empower herself. Their relationship isn’t perfect (I’m not in the mood to dissect the problematic aspects rn) but they were so sweet together and I didn’t expect to like them as much as I did back when they were lowkey a thing in ACOMAF.

The mates thing didn’t bother me cus I saw this shit coming since 2016. Yes, it’s cliche and annoying but the mates status also, like, has no meaning to me so it is what it is. Didn’t think they NEEDED to be mates but I was happy that them being mates wasn’t the core of the novel and it was secondary to Nesta’s individual healing journey.

Prepare for me to get sappy but another reason why I loved this novel was because it was a story of healing. :( :( :( The road to healing and growth in the emotional sense is always beautiful to me despite how flawed it often is when SJM writes it. I just felt really immersed in the emotional woes and eventual growth of Nesta despite my issues with the book and this is perhaps one of the main reasons that I found it beautiful, because healing as a theme is always beautiful and raw.

More of Nessian but like their relationship feels so real and raw too. No, cus like, it wasn’t tinged in as much fictitious idealism as feyrhys’ relationship was. They weren’t all stupidly in love and seeing each other in the universe and shit, like they just made each other happy and weren’t portrayed as the perfect soulmates who were each other’s yin and yang and whatever thank the LORD. Them having each other’s back was enough and ughhhh Cassian was just so sweet and such a good trainer and so aloof yet passionate like I been waiting to see more of him since ACOMAF so yayyy.

Okay... that scene where Rhys kneels to Nesta and she embraces him. yes. YES YES YES YES YES that shit was the shit that made my year like I want this man to be in her debt for the end of time like this hoe saved yall like big strong high lord better bow to the “witch” like I could hear angelic choirs at that scene like Rhys doesn’t just yield to people so easily so like, it was just kinda epic okay. Little bitchass Rhys with his perfect little river house and emo boi clothes stfu hoe.

No cus I love how Nesta told Cassian she didn’t wanna hear about Feyre’s special journey or Rhys’s special journey or Mor’s like I got fed up of people acting like they epitomized “good” and the “good path” to self-discovery when they can choke on a baguette as far as I am concerned.

Eris. So here is the thing. Since 2015 in ACOTAR when Eris was Under the Mountain being all red-headed and cunning and sexy and evil I have been obsessed with him... well, the idea of him I had in my head and how delectably abhorrent he seems (I like villains and side-characters okay). Maybe it was just his name (Eris is a hot name shut up) or the idea of a rich, cunning fox-faced prince in the same universe appealed to me. Either way, I actually never expected by favorite cameo-character to become... important. I’ll die on the hill of loving him. Here is the thing... I don’t want him to be good, in the same way I did not want Rhys to be a good guy in ACOTAR either. I don’t need him to be a secret angel, I don’t need him to be sweet and good like Rhys always was apparently. Honestly, I want him corrupt but likeable and pertinent to the story. That being said, I really want him as the main character for one of the upcoming novels sooo bad like please PLEASE let me see the autumn court and it’s two-facedness please like if not Eris then Lucien as the main character please.

Lucien... aka my fave character since the first book man. Mannn, SJM does homeboy so dirty like I have always loved Russian fables and hence, I am so ready for Lucien x Vassa x Jurian in the Vasilisa retelling with the firebird trope and Koshei. NO CUS in 2018 I was finna write a 100k word fic about this but then I forgot about it no cap, I still have the story plan in my Onenote actually but let us not reminisce. See, my ao3-loving ass wants an angsty poly relationship and also a hot Koshei I have been waiting YEARS for this you hoes, ever since Elain got the premonition of Vassa as a firebird in ACOWAR like God please please please give it to me and make it feyrhys-less as well yasss.

I lowkey wanna suspect Eris is gay and Mor, also gay, knows and that’s why she lowkey kinda tolerates him now. Yet, I cannot be sure and yeah I just wanna say that I kinda want that arc lmfaooo (my ao3-self is showing shut up).

No cus I was TEASED by only seeing a glimpse of Vassa and Jurian but THEY SHALL HAVE THEIR TIME I KNOW IT.

Tamlin living as a beast is so interesting to me. He’s a side-character now but ughhhh he was so mystical and interesting as our good ole Beauty and the Beast beastie like it’s sooooo mysterious and alluring how he’s becoming his own villainous legend like I still care about Tamlin’s blond ass self despite everything.

Give us the snowball fight scene you coward.

I just gotta say Nessian could outsmut Feyrhys any day and that makes me proud.

FRICKING AZRIEL like first of all Mor doesn’t NEED to come out until she’s ready but she gotta let the man down nicely some other way so he can move on. I do not like Elain. Never did. I still do not. I do not, frankly, want a whole novel where she and Azriel fall in love and she rejects Lucien like... okay, I DO want her to reject Lucien so he can be with Vassa at the very least but also I am not interested in Elain’s POV rn. BUT I WANT AZ’S POV AND LIKE WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO DO I WANT MY EMO BOI TO BE HAPPY. This is so frustrating cus Az is a walking DILF right and so, what am I supposed to do now.

I kinda miss the Spring Court just a little. It’s pretty shut up. It got that Zuhair Murad fashion too.

Umm like, what the hell is up with that business with Helion being Lucien’s dad? We need more on this which is why I want a Lucien POV book goddammit.

Yoooooooo yall remember that bitch from ACOWAR who hybern was finna kill and she had a name and everything and then there was some foreshadowing and shit? What’s up with her? Like I can’t even remember her name lowkey but yeah what’s up with that. Was it something like Briar or Briannon or somthing???

Is Mor getting a book? Like deadass I need the Lucien and Vassa book, I need the Eris book, I need the Mor book and I need the Azriel book. Damn. Been waiting 6 years for some of this shit.

Okay that is all for now. Yes, this book has problematic elements at every level but I still loved it yet also hated some things about it. I won’t read House of Blood and Earth nor will I finish the TOG series but I guess I’ll stick with this series which remains near and dear to my soul despite what people gotta say about it. It made me happy and that’s what matters. Nesta is a huge ass inspiration to me as a character and I still wanna see her make the Inner Circle’s life a living hell uwu. I admittedly got HELLA emotional reading this story because it’s nonetheless super meaningful to me even at age 19 and it’s really powerful for me as a comfort book, and I look forward (a little) to what this woman put out next... sort of.

After Aang got shot with lightening from Azula, there’s this canon video from a video game or something Nickolodeon was doing that not a lot of people know about but basically, he reconnects with the past 4 avatars and his last one is Avatar Yangchen. After finding out that all Avatars have made human mistakes, and that no avatar was perfect, they have a really important discussion about why the avatar must be human instead of an all powerful spirit:

Aang: “Why is the Avatar Spirit human in every life? Wouldn’t fit be better if the Avatar was an all powerful spirit that never died?”

Yangchen: “I don’t think so. The Avatar must be compassionate towards all people and the only way to do that is to live with them. The Avatar must experience sadness, anger, joy and happiness. By feeling these emotions, it helps you understand how precious human life is so you will do anything to protect it. If you were an all powerful spirit living on the top of some mountain you wouldn’t have much in common with an ordinary person. So the avatar continues to take human rebirth and in each life, learns what it means to be human.”

Along his journey, Aang learns that by also being human, he is able to have one of the greatest strengths humans have, to love. The way that he is able to love and how others are able to love him make him human. He was able to be brought back to life because Katara loves him. Katara’s love and refusal to let him go ultimately saves Aang and bring him back to life. That’s what makes being the avatar so powerful. The fact that they don’t just have this incredible power, but because they are also able to love and be loved in return. By being human, he is able to have the strengths that humans posses.

That is why the Avatar state is only a DEFENSE MECHANISM as Avatar Roku mentioned. He isn’t supposed to be powerful all the time. He’s only supposed to use that in necessary times only. It’s also why he had to learn to control his emotions so he won’t trigger it out of anger.

Which is why the pointy rock thing, even though can count as DEM, it’s makes sense to the story in a sense that there’s a possibility that universe or the avatar’s spirits put that there for Aang so he was able to use his defense mechanism powers to help save the world. Just my thought/ theory. It may not be true but it works for me.

But can we also talk about how Avatar Yanchen also said “By feeling these emotions, it helps you understand how precious human life is so you will do anything to protect it.” Then Aang, despite feeling emotions of pain, grief and anger was still able to find balance balance between saving the world and spare Ozai’s life in the process. Aang, truly found balance between being a powerful spirit but also as a human and air nomad. Like this is why I freaking LOVE Aang as the avatar for his time period. He literally understand how precious human life is and used energy bending (which I think only the Avatar can do with their unique abilities) to save the world. Like he really used his Avatar powers to SPARE a life because he believed that ALL LIFE IS PRECIOUS. The monks taught him that and he was doing it for them too. Like he really combined his duty as the avatar and the teachings of his people who were wiped out and became Avatar Aang. He saved EVERYONE without having to do so at the expense of a single life. Which is why, Avatar Aang deserves all the freaking praise for being a freaking amazing Avatar, human and air nomad.

Not to mention, can we talk about the fact that he achieved this at TWELVE. Every Avatar before him trained to be the avatar at 16. Homeboy was only 12 and he was already out there bending all 4 elements in less than a year and became a prime example of what the avatar must to for the world. LIKE HOW CAN PEOPLE HATE HIM AND CRITIZE HIM SO MUCH. AANG IS BEST BOY <3

Meeting and Dating Ray Sinclair

(My borderline alright gif)(Welcome to my first underrated movie headcanons post! This is from the movie Something Wild (1986))

(If you’re going to learn anything about me from this blog then you’ll learn that I’m a big fan of criminals.)

- You and Ray first met while you were dating a friend of his. He’d just gotten out of a stint in prison when you and your boyfriend had happened across him on the street. The two men greeted each other warmly as you stood off to the side, wondering who the hell this guy was.

- Finally, your boyfriend turned and introduced the two of you, letting Ray get his first good look at you. That was all it took for him to decide he wanted you and let’s just say that when Ray wants something...he gets it.

- He doesn’t immediately try to put the moves on you. If there’s anything Ray is its conniving and cunning; he’s willing to wait to make sure he gets things right. He studies your relationship, taking note of its weak points; all the touchy subjects and things that make you incompatible.

- At the same time he gets closer to you, showing you a good time and getting you addicted to the rush of adrenaline and the thrill that comes with being around him.

- Isn’t it sad that a man you barely know brings more excitement to your life than your own boyfriend. But that’s kind of the point, isn’t it? That’s exactly what he wants you to think but it isn’t like he’s putting up a facade. He’s showing you exactly what it’s like to be with him, he just knows that the lifestyle will be too alluring for you to resist.

- Ray isn’t a great person, he knows that, everyone knows that. He’s a conman, a criminal, a bastard, the list can go on. Him being vindictive and two faced with your ex boyfriend is just the tip of the iceberg but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t actually care about you. He loves you that’s for sure, enough to plot an entire scheme to get you for himself.

- Honestly, all your relationship needed to fall apart was a little push and he was happy to provide it. A little instigation on his part and the two of you were exchanging screaming insults.

- It was only a matter of time before you two officially split up and let’s just say it wasn’t on good terms. Ray was the one who swooped in and comforted you, calling your ex an ass and offering to get your stuff from his apartment.

- To be fair you weren’t all that upset, it felt like a weight had been lifted off your shoulders. You hadn’t realized how much he was dragging you down. You were finally free to do whatever you wanted and so...Ray asked you to run off with him.

- You’d been happily prancing around your room when he first asked, too caught up in your own excitement to hear him correctly so you had to ask him to repeat himself.

- When you finally heard the question you were shocked, the smile faded from your face a bit as you processed what he was actually asking you. Sure you’d wanted to leave your town for a while, see the world a little and live your life but could you really do it, and with Ray for that matter? Sure he was attractive and you liked him a lot but this was a huge step. You couldn’t exactly go back once you’d started.

- It took you a minute to come to your decision. You were free... and you were gonna stay free. You packed up your things, kissed your life goodbye and hopped in the car with him, never looking back.

- Whatever you want to do the two of you will do. Is it considered a date if you’re just living out your lives together?

- You rarely leave each other’s sides and you rarely want to. You’re as comfortable as can be with each other.

- Lots of pda, homeboy would legitimately fuck you in public if you let him.

- His go-to pet name is baby and he calls you it often.

- Ray can be a real sweetheart when he wants to be and he saves all his sweetheart points for you. You’re the only person he’s ever nice to without there being an ulterior motive behind it.

- He honestly thinks you’re the most amazing girl he’s ever met. You’re beautiful, smart, sweet, talented; the list could go on and he’d happily read it out to you if you cant see what he does.

- He loves having you model clothes for him. He’d steal you expensive outfits just so he could watch you try them on and tear them off you afterwards.

- Acting gentlemanly has never been like a conscious decision of his, he just opens doors for you (etc) because that’s what you’re “supposed to do”.

- You do a lot of moving around so get used to being in cars and packing up your stuff constantly.

- Sleeping in the passenger seat of his car while he drives to your next destination. When you’re awake, he likes to keep one hand on your thigh and the other on the steering wheel.

- Ray has no shame and that’s a fact. He isn’t afraid to make a fool of himself for you.

- He always checks on you when he thinks something may be wrong. He may overreact a little in certain situations but it’s all coming a good place.

- You catch him staring a lot, sometimes it’s innocent other times it feels like he wants to eat you alive.

- He’s really protective of you, that’s part of the reason why he watches you so much. He doesn’t like having you out of his sight just in case something happens to you or you need him.

- He finds nearly everything you do amusing. You could be killing someone and he’d find a way to make a teasing comment about it.

- He takes pride in seeing you become more like him. Whenever you do something wild he can’t help but smile.

- He’s probably taught you how to use a gun. You spend some weekends sitting in an isolated area with him, shooting cans off of broken fences and bins.

- Learning how to patch him up and reset his broken noses. Get used to blood, that’s all I’m saying.

-Sometimes he genuinely amazes you with how tough he is. You don’t think you’ve ever met anyone in your life that can handle a broken nose like it’s just an inconvenience.

- He likes going through your things so I don’t suggest owning things you wouldn’t want him finding. He does it out of curiosity and boredom rather than suspicion so don’t read into it too much.

- He’s very...convincing. It’s hard to resist him when he asks you to do something or asks to do something to you.

- Play wrestling and just being overall kinda rough with each other.

- He’s one hell of a kisser. He takes your breath away on a daily basis.

- He likes to people watch and make fun of everyone with you.

- He has a thing for your shoulders. He just always seems to be touching them in some way whether it be laying his head on one or wrapping his arm around both of them.

- Late night trips around town. You have a lot of fond memories under the stars.

- Even if he thinks something is silly he can’t help but do it for you just to see you smile.

- Keeping a list of all the motels and hotels that you’ve visited...It’s a long list.

- He likes being able to carry you into your motel room/bedroom after you’ve fallen asleep in his car or on the couch. There’s just something about it that’s so precious to him.

- Sleeping in his shirts with your head resting on his arm and his body pressed against your back.

- Probably has your name tattooed somewhere on him. He also may or may not have gotten it done while in prison.

- Be prepared for a lot of surprises, he likes seeing the look on your face when he catches you completely off guard.

- Likes when you play with his hair. You can always calm him down with it, it’s your own little secret weapon against him.

- Fights are screaming matches but he never lets either one of you walk away. You’re going to fight until things get fixed and that’s just how it’s going to be even if he has to stand by and watch you cool off for an hour. The both of you can go to bed angry with each other but you’re still sleeping side by side and that’s final.

- He hates upsetting you; he always apologizes and knows exactly what to do to make things better though.

- To a certain degree he knows almost exactly what you need and want. Sometimes it’s annoying how right he is about you but other times it’s helpful. You find solace in the fact that there’s certain things about you that he’s just dead wrong about or that he doesn’t know about at all.

- Occasionally, he gets kind of insecure about your relationship because he isn’t sure if he can provide you with the future that you really want. Sure, his adrenaline junky, carefree ways are fun now but how long are you going to think so?

- He has high hopes for you even though you’ve chosen to spend your days with a dirtbag like him.

- He’s often quick to jealousy but he hides it well...to people other than you at least. You know the way he is so you can always spot the little quirks and cues that tell you he’s getting ticked off. That and the fact that he’ll grill you on who “that guy was” after you’ve walked away from them.

- Sometimes he’s ready to start a full on fist fight after hearing someone use a pickup line on you. Other times he likes to stand around and listen to guys talk about or attempt to flirt with you just to see how quickly their faces fall once they realize you’re together. Occasionally he’ll do both of those things just for the additional ego boost.

- He’s willing to fight for a woman like you.

- He likes telling you about his different robberies and schemes. Whenever he commits some kind of crime he just has to brag to you or mock the people he just messed with.

- You’re probably going to have to visit him in prison at least once, just saying. But hey, if you’re with him you already know what you signed up for

- He’s never afraid to admit how much he missed you.

- Even if you broke up with him (probably because of him being in prison, let’s be honest) he’d still be caught up on you and wouldn’t be able to stop himself from trying to get you back by any means necessary.

- He absolutely melts on the inside whenever you tell him you love him, especially if it’s after a fight or when you’re getting back together after a long time apart.

- Ray is a charmer so it wouldn’t be hard for him to get your parents to like him, it’s probably best that you leave out the fact that he’s been to prison though.

- You probably have a Vegas wedding on a whim one night pretty early into your relationship because that’s just how your relationship is. Funnily enough, you don’t regret it one bit.

I NEVER FINISHED MY STORY OMG. ok so i left off at being too proud to tell my friend she was right and kpop fucked hard. the difference between u and me is that i’m too good of a liar. too good. i kept up the “i hate kpop it’s cringe” facade for ALMOST TWO WHOLE YEARS, I SHIT YOU NOT. why? bc my dumb ass, extra ass, dramatic ass self thought “ok if i’m gonna have to deal with the embarrassment of admitting i’m wrong, i better do it in such an extra ass way it’ll knock ur socks off so hard that YOULL be the one embarrassed not me.” the original plan was to learn the entire choreography to bts dope, bc it’s the song that she told me to listen to and inevitably the song that got me into them, but later switched to bts fire bc i saw too many of those “choreo matches w any song” videos, and then her birthday party came up. and here’s the real kicker. her birthday is April Motherfuckin Fools. so it would be So Perfect for me to reveal my kpopism as a birthday present And a april fools prank in one. so i was Set on the Reveal being on april 1st, but the day rolls around and god that choreo is so fucking hard and i am Not a dancer. never have been. so i abandon that and go ykno what… i’ll do it Next Year. BC MY BITCHASS WAS LIKE NO THE MOMENT IS TOO PERFECT TO DO IT ON A NORMAL ASS DAY ITS GONNA BE ON APRIL FOOLS ON HER GODDAMN BIRTHDAY OR NOT AT ALL. a year rolls by, i’ve told most of our friends except her and they’re all in on it, i’d made so many subtle kpop references to her without her realising they were fully intentional and had too many scares where she almost figured me out but i lied my way out of it, and i’d given up on showing off with choreography bc i couldn’t make that shit look good. i’m not a dancer. i am, however, a rapper, and a damn good one, so i inhaled the agust d mixtape and decided i’d just rap the eminem of kpop’s anthem at her face. in korean. and change the lyrics at the end (if u haven’t listened to agust d, the bridge repeats “i’m sorry” a lot) to “i’m sorry i kept this from u for so long” and “i’m sorry i actually ult got7 not bts” (this was like the april after skz debuted ok i was holding onto got7 for dear life knowing full well skz we’re going to convert me smh) and the best part? she never saw it coming. her official present was a cd with a bunch of kpop on it but she thought it was just a personalised mixtape for her so i told her to play the first song out loud and she knew the song Instantly. it has a long intro so she was like “i guess u did listen when i recommended u this song!! i knew you’d like it since u like rap so much!!” and then i started rapping and i shit u not. she started SCREAMING. like the initial reaction was her jaw dropping and then instinctively covering her mouth but when i kept going and she realised i wasn’t fucking around she just fucking screamed like a banshee. at the end during the sorry bit i threw off my jacket to reveal a got7 shirt on the inside and she fell off her chair and started rolling around on the floor. needless to say it was every bit as satisfying as i thought it’d be LMAOOOO afterwards her ass was like “I CANT BELIEVE U HID THIS FROM ME FOR OVER A YEAR” and when i tried to explain my ego couldn’t take the “i told u so” she was like “you know i wouldn’t have made fun of you for it right? i would just be glad you’re not hating on my boys anymore” so basically i’m a big dramatic fool and she was always too good for me.

Soooo, I just watched It Chapter 2 and I decided to come back to my It blog 🎈🎈

FIRST OF ALL IM GONNA TALK ‘BOUT REDDIE BECAUSE, BOY HOW I LOVE THOSE TWO, OK

I liked how, after they put on the shower caps, Richie starts talking shit bout them and Eddie quickly takes off his lmao

I loved the hammock scene, how Eddie demands Richie to move the fuck out of it and Richie, being the gay little shit he is, doesn’t move forcing Eddie to climb on pushing him and shoving his glasses with his foot while ranting lmao I loved it, and that hammock was a perfectly good excuse for them to be close to each other so yeah, if I were Richie I would’ve done the same to be close to my crush

Richie’s pep talk to Eddie after he said he was too scared,,,, I need a Richie in my life :(

“next time we’re picking “scary””

And, thanks to @buckley-robln, I realized the meaning of the “very scary” door, it being a closet and simbolizing our boys’ fear of coming out, wow I’m sad

And then how Eddie stabs Pennywise and proudly goes to tell Richie, and then suddenly Pennybitch stabs Eddie,,,, I knew he was gonna die and still I was surprised and cried like a baby :((

Then when Eddie says he has to tell him something, and Richie looks at him hoping he would say something important... then Eddie making a “your mom” joke and Richie just laugh, his laugh being one of the last sounds Eddie hears...

But what made it worse was Richie’s denial and the other loser’s trying to console him oh my god it really had me crying

AND, IF THAT WASNT ENOUGH, THAT SCENE AT THE QUARRY WHERE THEYRE ALL HOLDING RICHIE AND HES CRYING AND IM CRYING OH WOW MY HEART :(

It was just too real, I mean, like that small touch of hands that causes you lots of emotions that somehow scare you because you don’t know what the hell is going on with you, that fear that comes with the uncertainty of what will happen if anyone knew, bitch I felt that

When they show him carving the “R” a small part of me hoped it was an “E” next to the “+” but I didn’t wanna get my hopes up cause you know how we gays rarely get any representation on the big screen, so at the end when they show him re-carving the E I completely lost it and cried, plus Stan’s letter, it was just to much for me :((

Richie’s character has me speechless, like I feel I kind of empathize a lot with him and I just want to hold him tight and tell him everything’s gonna be alright :(

EDDIE

That scene when Bowers stabs my homeboy Eddie I wasn’t sure if it was real or what the f u c k was going on, and then how Eddie, like the badass he is, takes out the knife and stabs him back lol and how he slowly walks out of the bathroom 😂

How he was paralyzed by fear when the Stan/spider thing was attacking Richie and how Bill yells at him and how he tells him to don’t be mad, that he got really scared, my poor baby

Also, the scene at the basement of the pharmacy was v important I mean, my poor Eds was desperately trying to save his mom while being surrounded by thing that scared him, and then how he manages to weaken the leper, finding the answer to how to end Pennywise, yes Eddie! 👏🏼👏🏼

HANBROUGH

I loved their relationship I mean I didn’t ship them before but now w o w they’re so cute with each other I’m,,,

I liked how, even after everyone had gone, Bill stayed there with Mike and listened to him and everything

And when they pressed their foreheads together after ending that 🤡 bitch !! c u t e

And at the end omg when they’re talking on the phone and Mike makes a pause and says “I love you”, and then Bill says “I love you too”... I know it was like in a platonic way but I just- 💖❤️💞😘👏🏼

The guilt he feels for Georgie’s death 😭

That moment where adult Bill sees his younger self telling him everything was his fault, and that his little brother’s death was his fault just because he pretended to be sick just cause didn’t want to go out and play with him... I can only imagine the amount of guilt he was experiencing

But then when he faces him and finally realizes it wasn’t his fault and “kills” his young version, putting an end to that feeling of guilt... Good for him 👏🏼

MIKE

A KING

It must’ve been really difficult to get the courage to call everyone and ask them to go to Derry, knowing that it meant danger

And all the research he did, all the effort he put on the investigation to end Pennywise, all for the greater good, wow, he deserves everything good in the world 💖

Even though I didn’t like how he kept some information from the others >:(

But it’s ok, I love him, it was for the greater good

BENVERLY

I really liked how Ben recognized her immediately, so sweet

When they’re talking at the hotel and Bev says she thinks it was Bill who wrote the poem and everything and I was just like “Girl, no!! Open you’re eyes, boo!!! He’s literally sitting there next to you!!!!”

Then when they put their totems inside the thingy, Ben’s words broke my heart, my poor baby :(

And how Bev says she should’ve held on to that memory (talking bout the letter)

Then when they’re both fighting their fears and suddenly Ben starts calling her and then she hears him and they both yell each other’s names and she finally kicks the door open and saves him, wow, powerful 🔥👏🏼

And when she finally realizes it was Ben the whole time ajsnjkadhs it was a short, beautiful moment <3

BEN

He was Just. So. Sweet. I mean, one could’ve thought he would’ve change because of how his life changed and how successful he was now, but he was still the sweet lovely boy with the biggest crush in Beverly Marsh 😭💖

He was just so pure and good

I love his relationship with Beverly

That scene when he was being practically buried alive gave me a n x i e t y, and how Pennywise told him he was gonna die alone and all that shit I was so ANGRY at that bitchass clown

Also when he tricks him into believing that Bev was calling him ugly stuff and being mean to him absolutely broke my heart but he was smart enough to know she would never say anything like that to him, but still, I hate seeing him sad cause he deserves the world 😤

She was such a badass wow I love her

She could punch me and I’d thank her

That scene when her father blames her for what her mother did and yells at her and all of that was v scary, my poor girl how could she live with him 😖

Also the scene at the bathroom with the blood, it surely was incredibly overwhelming listening to everyone who ever hurt her saying all that shit, but then I loved how when she hears Ben she gets enough strength to get the fuck out of there and save her boy!! we love a queen!!!!!

I’m so glad she finally found someone who loves her and treats her as she d e s e r v e s.

STAN THE MAN

Oh boy, how I missed him :((((

Even if we just saw him for little bits, I liked how happy he seemed at the beginning, with his puzzle of birds and all

Then the ~scene~ was absolutely heartbreaking I mean how he gets in the tub, and then they showed us a memory and then... :(

Then his speech at his bar mitzvah!!!! so powerful!!! (And Richie clapping lol) 👏🏼👏🏼

And the letter!!!! Patty sending the letter to the losers meant to much! I cried the whole time while they read the letter, it was a beautiful way to end the movie

Also, all of the scenes where they showed us happy Losers being a bunch of kids with nothing to worry about, bitch I cherished each one of those. Like when they were at the club house, and at the photo booth... good times, man ❤️

It was a good movie, I laughed, I cried, I got scared on several ocassions, and I can’t wait to go and see it again

The date was honestly really awkward and that was mostly because of Janie. She sat there stiff as a board the whole time and hardly talked because she was so nervous.
