"Das klingt... umständlich" Ich habe gerade jemandem um zwei Uhr morgens meine Reiseplanung erklärt. Zwar bin ich ausnahmsweise mit Auto unterwegs, muss es aber heute Nacht stehen lassen, um auf einer Couch in der Nachbarstadt zu crashen, anschließend mit ÖPNV zurückfahren um das Auto abzuholen und dann zwei Stunden in die andere Richtung fahren. Ja, umständlich trifft es. "Du kannst doch einfach bei mir pennen, das liegt auf dem Weg" Aus irgendeinem Grund sage ich ja. Dann fällt mir das Auto ein. Wir entscheiden kurzerhand, dass mein Gesprächspartner (nüchtern) "mein" (ein kleines, winziges bisschen angetrunken) Auto fahren könnte. Großartige Idee, finde ich. Also Abfahrt, I fucking guess.

Gegen drei Uhr morgens eisen wir uns los und laufen zu ""meinem"" Auto. "Oh", sagt er beim Anblick des Wagens. Es ist der uralte SUV meiner Mutter, ein kaum verkehrstauglicher Nissan Qashqai. Ein Schiff von einem Auto, in dem die defekte Klimaanlage dauerhaft auf 33° steht, das Abblendlicht nur zusammen mit dem Nebelscheinwerfer funktioniert und in dem alles irgendwie nach Zigaretten und Parfum riecht. Ich habe die Beifahrerseite so zugeparkt dass er erst einmal das Schiff ausparken muss. Er tut dies mit weit geöffneter Fahrertür, unbeabsichtigter Gefahrenbremsung und merklichem Unwohlsein. Ich muss kurz lachen. "Ey, ich hab meinen Führerschein erst seit 'nem Monat!" ruft er mir zu.

Ein Freund von uns fährt vorbei, hält an, kurbelt das Fenster runter und fragt "Die Knutschkugel fährst du??". Nein, wirklich nicht, ich möchte mit diesem Auto zunehmend wenig zu tun haben. Währenddessen hat mein Fahrer und neuer Freund einen Nervenzusammenbruch hinter dem Lenkrad. Ich steige ein.

Wir peilen als erstes eine Tankstelle an, da ich den Wagen natürlich praktisch leergefahren habe. Mein Fahrer hat so viel Respekt vor der Größe des Gefährts, dass er mit ungefähr zwei Metern Abstand zur Tanksäule zum stehen kommt. Ich starre ihn an. Er parkt in fünf Zügen näher an der Tanksäule, versucht dann, den Knopf für den Tankdeckel zu finden. Findet einen Knopf. Drückt ihn. Die Motorhaube schießt in die Höhe. Ich lache hysterisch, er klingt eher, als würde er gerade in Tränen ausbrechen. Er steigt aus um die Motorhaube zu schließen, ich rufe ihm hinterher, dass er bitte einfach den Tankdeckel öffnen soll. Er verzweifelt währenddessen an der Motorhaube.

Was die Situation irgendwie verschlimmbessert: Wir kommen von einem Larp, und sind noch mehr oder minder verkleidet. Während ich jetzt also mit ihm die Motorhaube befummele, weil wir das Scheissteil nicht wieder geschlossen bekommen, steht ein unterbezahlter Tankwart im Fenster und sieht einem Kelten und einem Hobbit zu, wie sie einen geriatrischen Nissan auseinandernehmen.

Zurück auf der Autobahn jagt er uns nur einmal fast frontal in die Leitplanke. Nach zwanzig Minuten klebt dafür ein anderes Auto an unserem Heck. Bestimmt irgendein BMW, oder sonstwas unsympathisches, mutmaßen wir. Das Auto drängelt fast zehn Minuten hinter uns auf der rechten Spur, statt endlich gottverdammt nochmal links zu überholen. Mein Fahrer ist stark verunsichert, ich bin nervlich am Ende. Wir fahren penetrante Richtgeschwindigkeit, während hinter uns das Auto so nah kommt dass die Scheinwerfer im Rückspiegel verschwinden. Holy shit, was ist sein Problem? Nach gefühlten Ewigkeiten überholt der Vollidiot endlich. Er braucht noch einmal eine gute Minute für sein Überholmanöver, welches er scheinbar mit 105kmh absolviert. Wir starren in's vorbeiziehende Auto, um endlich das Gesicht dieses Penners zu sehen. An uns vorbei zieht ein kleiner blauer Seat mit Sternchen-Stickern, mit einer schrumpeligen, kleinen Oma hinter'm Steuer. Hysterisches Lachen, wir landen wieder fast in der Leitplanke.

The Qur'ān commands women to veil so "they will be recognized":

(O Prophet! Tell thy wives and thy daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them) to cover their necks and bosoms ((when they go abroad). That will be better, that so they may be recognised) as free women (and not annoyed) and not be harmed by the fornicators. (Allah is ever Forgiving) He forgives what they have done in the past, (Merciful) He shows mercy on them regarding that which they will do in the future. (Ayah Al-Azhab 59)

Commentaries on this verse:

(In this verse, Allah ordered the free women) to draw their Jilbabs over their bodies, so that they will be distinct in their appearance from the women of the Jahiliyyah and from slave women ... said about the revelation of this verse 33:59 that the mischief-mongers among the people of Madīnah would come out on the streets at dusk and get after the women. The houses of the people of Madīnah [in those days] were very small in size and at nightfall the women would go out on these streets [making their way to the fields] to relieve themselves. These evil people would tease and molest these women. While if they saw a woman who would be wearing a Jilbab (cloak/outer garment), they would say she is a free woman [and not a slave] and would abstain [from molesting her] and if they saw a woman who would not be wearing a cloak, they would molest her by saying that she is a slave woman. And Mujahid said that those women would wear cloaks [in the way prescribed by the Qur'ān] so that it be known that they are free women and the mischief-mongers would not then harm or molest them. - Tafsir Ibn Kathir

"When the holy prophet came to Medina, he had no house in Medina. He and his wives and other women used to go outside at evening to relieve themselves. And men used to sit on the streets and used to recite poetry (to tease and molest the women). Upon that Allah revealed the verse of Hijab (33:59) so that free women could be differentiated from the slave women." - Abu Saleh

Al-Hassan al-Basri (died 110 Hijri year) said: Slave women in Medina used to be called with specific names (i.e. they were molested) when they went outside. One day, some ignorant people approach women and harm them, thinking they were slave women. This was because free women would also go out, and they would be mistaken for slave women, and people would approach them and cause harm. The Prophet (peace be upon him) then commanded the believing women to bring their outer garments closer to them (i.e. to take the Hijab). This was to ensure that they would be recognized as free women and not be harmed." - Tafsir Abd al-Razzaq al-Sanani

Ibn Abbas said about the verse 33:59, the free (Muslim) women used to dress same as the slave women. Upon that Allah ordered them that they let down upon them their over-garments (Arabic: Jilbab), and letting the outer-garment means to cover their faces and to tie it on their foreheads. - Tafsir Ibn Jarir

Regarding the phrase "to bring their outer garments closer to them" (Quran 33:59), it means that they should wear veils that clearly indicate they are free women, so that no immoral person would harm them or have any doubt about their status. - Mujahid

This Ayah was revealed when Umar (companion of Muhammad) harassed Sauda (one of the wives of the Prophet)

Narratied `Aisha: The wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) used to go to Al-Manasi, a vast open place (near Baqi` at Medina) to answer the call of nature at night. `Umar used to say to the Prophet (ﷺ) "Let your wives be veiled," but Allah's Apostle did not do so. One night Sauda bint Zam`a the wife of the Prophet (ﷺ) went out at `Isha' time and she was a tall lady. `Umar addressed her and said, "I have recognized you, O Sauda." He said so, as he desired eagerly that the verses of Al-Hijab (the observing of veils by the Muslim women) may be revealed. So Allah revealed the verses of "Al-Hijab" (A complete body cover excluding the eyes). - Sahih al-Bukhari 146

This is how hijab started. But this does not stop here. Umar Ibn Khattab, the second Caliph, used to beat the slave women with a stick if they ever attempted to take Hijab (Jilbab) off.

Companion Anas reported: "Umar saw one of our slave girls covering herself with Muqna (which is an outer garment like Jilbab and was used to cover the breasts and body), so he struck her and said, 'Do not resemble the free women. - Sheikh Albani

Umar once saw a young girl leaving the house of Hafsa (his daughter), adorned with a cloak (i.e. Jilbab) — or, from one of the houses of the Prophet’s wives. Umar entered the house and said, “Who is this girl?” They said, “A slave of ours” — or, a slave of someone’s family. He became enraged at them and said, “Your slave girls left with their adornment, and created discord (by taking Jilbab) amongst the people (while they were unable to distinguish her from the free Muslim women).” - Abdur Razzak

Remember how I said hijab has been borrowed from Mesopotamia? Surprisingly, there's a law that promotes Umar's actions in Mesopotamia.

17) "If the wives of a man, or the daughters of a man go out into the street, their heads are to be veiled. The prostitute is not to be veiled. Maidservants are not to veil themselves. Veiled harlots and maidservants shall have their garments seized and 50 blows inflicted on them and bitumen poured on their heads." - The Code of the Assura

The 1400 years of history of Islam also consists of this shameful act against humanity, where Muslim men forced those women/girls to become half naked by exposing their breasts, and then forced them to stand in front of thousands of men in the Islamic Bazaars of slavery, who not only looked at them with lust but they were also allowed to touch their private parts (as if they were sheep and goats).

Nafe’e narrated that whenever Ibn Umar wanted to buy a slave girl, he would uncover her leg and place his hand between her breasts and on her buttocks. - Imam Bayhiqi

Anas bin Malik said: ‘The female slaves of Umar were serving us with uncovered hair and their breasts shaking” - Imam Bayhiqi

Slave women were standing in the mosques with naked breasts during prayers.

“He (Abu Hanifa) was not shy to say that a slave woman can pray naked and the people can observe her breasts and waist. A free woman can purposely show the parts of her vagina during prayers and can be observed by whosoever enters and leaves the mosque.” - Imam Ibn Hazm

Sorry - to correct. The place where Talia Al Ghul threatens to kill Huntress Helena Bertinelli out of jealousy that she might be Batman’s new “concubine” in the 90s Batman Legacy Event is in the issue Robin (1993) #33 and this was way way before Morrison and definitely way before 9/11. She was just not purely good person and was prone to these antics in her own ways (upset over Bruce not answering that they belonged together over Selina and threatening to rip their heart out if they got together at the end of Tec #526, for example) and I think it was really the Demon Trilogy (which O’ Neil who created her himself didn’t like and editorial wanted taken out because they didn’t approve and saw it as an out of wedlock romance), B:TAS nostalgia, and that era’s editorial (run by O’ Neil again) keeping Batman from his other significant romances that helped her a bit. Even when you go read the write ins for her classic stories she was never as popular as say, Selina (and you can tell from the Lazarus Affair Arc)

Yep, a lot of it is rose-colored glasses and nostalgia that has lead to this laughable brain-rot.

Many Talia Stans seem to think that Talia is Bruce's endgame (Which is not only stupid but a disservice to both their characters) and try to harken back to the good ol' days (Which weren't all that good) where Talia was this "heroic anti-heroine", which isn't really true, perfect for Bruce to prove their point. The Demon Trilogy, despite being non-canonical since it's conception, is taken as gospel in their circle and spurs them on. They also like to yap about how Talia is based off a Bond Girl, which in their eyes makes her Bruce's wife despite Bruce being a separate character from James Bond and that the character they say she's based off of dies.

Plus, most of their complaining that Morrison wrote a racist and sexist version of Talia usually fall short with this information (i.e all of the arcs she's been in where she's done bad and questionable things). This isn't to say that DC hasn't been racist or sexist (Batman Legends of the Dark Night first few issues, Holy Terror or any of their earlier works are examples) or that all Talia's depictions have always been free of any bigotry. But most of them use these accusations to stop any conversation that invalidates their version of Talia. Also, I've spoken about racism and sexism within fandoms (DC, Voltron, The Bear) in irl plus I'm literally mixed, so I'm not trying to invalidate anyone.

It's also weird how this attitude has flowed into the wider fandom and causes people to have this strange vision of Talia because if we look at this relationship without these blinders (nostalgia) still portraying Brutalia as a romantic relationship is just down right creepy and borderline abusive. Like in many of their interactions post O'Neil (And even under his editorial), Talia is honestly a down-right over-possessive, manipulative person with abusive tendencies and Bruce enables her. It's stifling because you can't treat it as anything other than romantic and healthy.

Plus, Talia's fans end up being more sexist as they take away Talia's agency when confronted with her bad actions and treat her like a child.

What are your favorite Tim and Helena moments in the comics?

IM GLAD YOU ASKED. There are a few moments i really like but here is a whole short semi-reading guide because i am incredibly annoying about them!

Their first interactions are in Robin III: Cry Of the Huntress. It’s a pretty cute and fun mini that establishes their relationship and snarky banter. Also this is where Ariana(one of tim’s ongoing love interests)is introduced!

After this there is the Benedictions short story which is in Dc Showcase 1994 # 5, Robin(1993), Showcase #6. They just team up to defeat a one time baddie, also AzBat is running around doing AzBat things

After this theres the Batman:Legacy storyline which is a sequel to Batman: Contagion. They don’t interact a ton here but they do work together to sneak onto Ra’s al ghul’s ship. Helena fights talia a bit but they’re mainly separated as Tim is creating a backdoor for Babs into Ra’s computer

A fun little short story contained in Robin(1993) #34 has them interacting out of uniform- with Tim tripping out hoping she doesnt recognize him

After this read Robin Annual #6 it is cute and tim and helena are cowboys and i love it so much

After this is Joker’s Last Laugh. This is the story where Helena thinks Tim is dead and beats the shit out of Killer Croc(also where Nightwing kills the joker to avenge Tim) the Tim and Helena stuff is mainly in Joker’s Last Laugh #5, Robin(1993) #95, and Joker’s Last Laugh #6. Helena is very concerned for Tim and the Scene where she discovers his “death” is brutal.

Sadly they dont get a big reunion but thats okay because steph and tim were having a moment

I also of course Recommend Batman/Huntress: Cry For Blood. It’s my favourite Helena story and in it Tim not only annoys her in his little brother fashion but with Babs, works hard to clear Helena’s name.

One of my all time favorite Tim and Helena moments is when Helena while drugged literally hallucinates Tim as her dead little brother… yeah. Gotham Knights #38

After this they stop interacting as much bc OYL is awful and then shit just kept happening and then the universe reset and Tim and Helena as we knew them were erased.

Anyways i really love them a lot. Tim clearly respects Helena enough to not rat her out to Batman but also to go out of his way to help and support her. Likewise Helena also cares for Tim and wants to protect him, again seeing him as a little brother(which hurts a lot when you think about what happened to her actual brother)

They might also interact in some of Helena’s JLA stuff but i have… not read any of that so i can’t speak on it

Doesn't quite have the confidence to kiss you when he's in public and when you do, he turns into a mess who has to put ten ice creams in his mouth to calm down. He is fun to tease, yes, but he is not someone who is averse to loving moments with you.

Occasionally he starts the sessions and among those, very few are accidental, maybe he's not even trying, but now you're just kissing each other calmly, just a way to remind the other of your love.

Both of you spent a quiet afternoon, it was hot, and the ice cream was shared next to the fan that chased away the weather caused by the humidity. You were together, cooling off in silence when something in Chongyun's head just connected, and he wanted a kiss, which he took when you were thinking about something else. His cold fingers made you feel better, his calm lips infatuated with yours and asking your permission to take them again and again until it was no longer necessary.

His kisses are calm, like a caress. Is gentle and delicate, not intense with his emotions or his actions, nor does he want you to be. It is a quiet space for both. There's no need to pull each other's hair or take off each other's clothes to be closer together, just an act of comfort and gentleness that helps him connect with you.

Chongyun likes kisses when no one sees the two of you, he holds your hand and your arm without leaving marks because it's not necessary. He's not possessive nor does he force you to be, but his heart melts when you bite his lip humorously. He holds you with a slight force from your back and lowers his hand to your waist, almost like a scolding, but he allows you to continue kissing very close to his lips.

Chongyun takes his time, tucking your hair behind your ears and holding your face in his cold hands to continue with his business. And the entire Liyue disappears, there is no Tayvat, no exorcisms to do, no demons to chase away. Just you and him, so comfortable with each other, you finally allow yourself to look at each other when you part and Chongyun whispers that he loves you more than anything in the world as you smile at him. And he has gained everything that he could have in his life, and he is happy like that.

5. Ms. Perkins — John Wick(2014)

Goth as hell, fucking love it. It was SUCH a serve. Everything is black as shit. The leather boots and gloves?? This entire outfit just screams 2014 goth chick and you know what, she slayed it so much. Too bad she doesn’t get quite enough recognition which is utterly heartbreaking💔💔 Those boots are such a slay and that bag too. I remember watching John Wick for the first time and looking at her and going “is that a 2014 tumblr girl.” And knowing the fact it’s canonly set in 2014 just really makes this all so funny and in a way realistic.

4. Marquis de Gramont — John Wick:Chapter 4(2023)

I like to call this outfit the “let them eat cake” fit because he’s French, an aristocrat, and he was eating cake in this scene. They really put Bill “campy horror boyfriend” Skarsgård in high waisted trousers and a slutty waistcoat. The red is so nice in this scene, it really went well with the golden sunlight that the Marquis is often drenched in. And that pocket watch too is just exquisite. His suit is such a breath of fresh air from all the black/dark outfits that stayed constant throughout the movies. Love how all of his suits are literally not tactical at all and just style. Really solidified his character as a spoiled cunt.

3. Akira Shimazu — John Wick Chapter 4(2023)

Rina Sawayama was so good as Akira oh my lord. I was literally lost for words that mother Sawayama came to slay(she could beat the hell out of anyone) and this outfit!!!! I’m such a sucker for tri-color outfits especially when there’s like two colors that are the same/shades and one color that just heavily contrasts it(in a good way). Oh and the battle outfit underneath was also awesome, love how the costuming team also takes into account that almost everyone in the movies are either hitmen or just need to be fighting.

2. Sofia Al-Alzwar — John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum(2019)

First off, I love the Cassablanca Continental, its like the best(in my opinion) out of all Continentals seen so far. I love the entire aesthetic of the place and the fact that Sofia absolutely manages to blend in quite well. She matches the decoration of the Hotel. And that sheer black coat combined with the belt of coins(?). Also, that cute pup<33 I love the embroidery on this, I’m such a sucker for embroidery like on her coat.

1. Gianna D’Antonio — John Wick 2

Holy shit!!!!! Mother Gianna D’Antonio!! Slayed her 10 minutes of screen time fr. That sparkly dress underneath her fur coat. Oh and that coat! I love it so much, I’ve been trying to find like something that resembles it. I am genuinely so in love with Gianna’s outfit in her death scene. Despite the sparkles and sequins, it manages to stay classy which is probably because it’s Claudia Gerini. And seriously, her hair too! Everything about this entire fit just makes it amazing. The sparkling dress makes Gianna eye-catching at the party which is what she probably would have wanted. I am so incredibly salty there wasn’t much else to see from her because I just know that she would’ve had better outfits or a better presence if her brother didn’t send John to kill her.

All in all, the costume teams of all movies managed to make such a good set of clothing for the characters. It gives so much life to their characters and the fact their actors managed to understand their characters too makes this all so beautiful to watch. I’m such a fan of costuming in movies and AHHHHH!!!! I truly do believe that outfits help a lot with audiences getting an idea of a character<333
