LATGBG - Love Goes Down with the Ship
As Holden demonstrates why you shouldn't let a physical embodiment of chaos be at the wheel, poor Davin decides that now is a good time to let it all out...a pity the only ones listening are those who won't let them hear the end of it.
I swear, this comic came to me in a dream almost immediately after the last one (hence why I was able to complete it so soon). I look at this adorable tall lizard boi and I say to myself "listen, I love you, and I would put my life on the line to protect you, but putting you in these situations is too darn hilarious to pass up". So, here you have a case of peak meets peak (Next to HTTYD and KFP, the Madagascar trilogy is the best three-story pack Dreamworks has given us on account of it being the funniest).
And yes, I think you've probably figured out by this point that I have a major ship headcanon already. This show might as well have dangled a candy bar over my head when it provided a close-knit pair of polar opposite childhood friends with a reptile involved. Yes, I'm aware that they're just friends...but what if somewhere down the line that changes? It's adorable to think about! Now what do I call It? Siovin? Davona? Eh, you decide. Either way, let's not forget that all headcanons are valid here (or at least, they should be).
Also, I get a real kick imagining how Holden and Mika could be disaster "friends" in canon. It's order vs. mayhem all the way.
As always, enjoy!

this is the most genderfluid car (derogatory)
, reads the caption this picture of a ‘94 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera Wagon S was submitted to this blog with.
And while I would indeed like @sapphicshart to elaborate on why this car would be so genderfluid and why in a derogatory way, and perhaps appreciate how they reused the window triangles from the regular one at the rear end of the body, I feel that must make way for my first reaction upon the claim of “most genderfluid”:
haha.
Hahahaha.
HAHAHAHAHHA.
MUAUAHAHAUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAAAAAA.
Dear friend, prepare to get absolutely motherfucking BODIED.
This is the 1982 Nissan Pulsar NX (Pulsar EXA in Japan and Australia), and it’s not the car we are interested in.
The Pulsar NX was a way Nissan devised to get a more youthful and exciting coupe out of the underpinnings of the Nissan Pulsar/Sunny/Cherry (or even Holden Astra, if you’re feeling weirdly Australian), …conventionally unappealing little sedan and hatchback. Ah, right, I’ve still not made the body styles master explainer - let me brief you very quick. The above is a coupe, a car with two doors and a trunk compartment that is separate from the cabin. When the doors are four, it’s what you see below, a sedan.
Whereas a hatchback is one with a rear hatch that contains the rear windshield, making the trunk compartment part of the cabin.
See what I meant with the “conventionally unappealing”, eh.
Well, in 1986 the base Pulsar/Sunny/Cherry/Sentra/so on received an update, and thus the Pulsar NX based on its guts was updated with it.
And if your brows are furrowed by unfamiliarity and not by the painful realization of how hard our poor submitter is about to get pulverized, you must understand that this car’s body style is… rather unique.
In late ‘60s America, word started spreading that the Department Of Transportation would ban convertibles due to the awful lack of shit between passenger heads and pavement when they decided to change side - thus began the popularity of “targas” like this here NX (though manufacturers called them a lot of different names because Porsche copyrighted that word).
In a targa, instead of both roof and rear windshield all folding down behind the cabin, the roof is a solid panel (or, as in this case, two) that is removed and stored away and the rear windshield stays there, on the rear structure that remains at the service of body rigidity and occupants safety. And personally that feels extremely genderfluid to me.
But of course, there are many targa coupes, so this would not be such a peculiarity. But the thing is, while this car has two doors and a trunk compartment separate from the interior and thus a coupe, it can also be argued a hatchback since it has a hatch that includes the rear windshield.
But why in tarnation would they design a rear hatch like that when, since it doesn’t create any more room above the trunk, it has no cargo space advantage? Well, remember how one key difference between targas and convertibles is that in the former the rear windshield stays in place? Well, here it does stay in place, if you want to. If you don’t, though, you just take it off.
So the Pulsar NX is a coupe that is also a hatchback and a targa and a cabriolet. Except that now, as you can see, the rear compartment is open. So arguably it’s also a pickup - or, if you will, a ute. (It’s doing that weird thing it does sometimes with post submissions where it keeps me on the old editor where I can’t change text color so please pretend that link is the trademark ‘link to a related things-about-cars-in-posts post’ blue.)
But then you’d at least want a canvas cover or something just in case it rains and your rear passengers and/or cargo don’t like rain, right? So indeed, here’s the optional canvas canopy.
Meaning it could also have both a fixed glass rear windshield and a folding plastic one, making it both a hardtop convertible and a soft top one.
But what if you wanted to transport too much cargo to fit under the hatch -or the canvas cover- but you still wanted to have it protected, as you could do in a ute with a rear canopy?
Well, folks, I truly saved the best for last.
Because this thing is not just a coupe, a hatchback, a targa, a soft top convertible, a hardtop convertible, a pickup and a ute. It’s also a shooting brake. (Again, pretend that’s blue.)
You see now why the rear hatch hinged like that.
So while this is a post about a most [specific sexual identity or orientation] car, I am not, as per tradition, offering other options nor a vote between them, because democracy does not apply to matters of fact. (And also again I’m stuck on the old editor.)
But of course, if you want to participate in the creation of any future installments, hop on over into the Discord server linked in my pinned! It’s got glowing reviews :)

hi :) I hope you're doing okay <3 how is your mom? and your kitty?
Thank you for asking, it's sweet to know people care 🩷
I'm doing... Eh. Not the best. I'm a little mentally overwhelmed to be honest. Last week my dad had to take mom to the ER because her last blood work result said some of her labs were way off. Potassium and sodium I believe. She's been in the hospital since and is rapidly deteriorating. I have trouble admitting it but they're sending her home to hospice today. I guess even with the last removal surgery getting everything, the damage was too much. There's a chance she'll eventually bounce back but... Let's just say I texted her sister to come home if she can.
Thankfully my brother was able to visit for the 4th of July so he was able to see her. She doesn't know where she is or who anyone is anymore. I don't understand how cancer can... Can hurt someone without presently existing but they just keep saying the damage is there either way. At least she'll be home and hopefully she'll feel that safety deep down even if she doesn't know it.
I might not be on here too much or I might get on a lot. I'm not sure what my mind will need but I apologize if I'm weird for a while or distant. I need to take care of her and spend what time I can. You've all been so sweet to me and I can't thank you enough. Tell people you love that you love them. Hell, record them saying it back. Take pictures. Videos. Catch their voices so you can keep them forever. Hug people and be kind and I hope you all are having lovely weeks. Again, hopefully I'll be here but I know you'll understand if I'm not. Thank you all for being here with me though, I couldn't handle this without you all. I love you 🖤
PS (because I forgot to reply about the kitty): Holden is doing great! He's healthy again and very grumpy because there are four stray kittens around. He likes being the only baby even if he's a giant one. I'm hoping he adjusts because I would like to keep one of them. Heck I'd like all of them but I know that's too much. I'll give him and the babies extra cuddles for everyone 🩵

Highlights of my Half Price Books Labor Day sale store tour (sightings & purchases edition):
Things Of Interest I Saw & Didn't Get:
-Both Flawless and Heartless by Elsie Silver. flipped through one out of curiosity, and JESUS CHRIST no I will not be reading those ever, ew.
-Magnolia Parks (incredibly ugly what-in-the-generic-2000s-chick-lit newer/traditionally published edition)
Side note: I really appreciate that at least my local branch has committed to putting the smuttier romance novels, even the popular ones (ex. Anna Huang's Kings Of... series), into their "erotica" section. It doesn't mean the ones in regular Romance are necessarily better, but it does help confirm which ones are guaranteed eyeball poison. I hope it also gives some people enough pause to think about their life and choices, confront what they're actually into instead of tee-heeing about ~spice~.
-The Bright Side by Kim Holden, newer & prettier cover edition, a book on my TBR that I can only get through I.L.L., but alas, the spine was not only wrinkled but fully bent into a backwards C. No, we're not spending more than $2 on that condition. >:( (bonus, now that I've had a chance to flip through it...eh, maybe I'm not that interested after all, the writing style doesn't feel that polished)
-The paperback edition of Fangirl with green sprayed edges and 2 color illustrations...which I should have but didn't realize were new for this edition, along with a new introduction, and damn, now I'm kinda mad at myself.
-If one were so inclined, one could have bought nearly the entirety of Colleen Hoover's backlist, including novellas, at a single location. You could do that at one of two locations, in fact.
-The Once Upon a Book Club special edition of A Diamond in London, in the regular section so I think no more than $10, with all its paper ephemera tucked inside. (tempting, but I already turned down an option to buy the full box on eBay for $30, in part because while beautiful, I'm not that enthused by the story. btw, fascinating that it's not listed on their website -- unless it was bought in the last 6 hours, they only have the trade paperback listed, and then this edition at $40).
-Dorothy Lyons horse book! Midnight Moon, for $35. It IS rare, but that's still more than I paid for my copy, and this one had a bit of the top of the spine bitten or torn off, no dust jacket either.
-Young Warriors: Stories of Strength, ed. Tamora Pierce, even though it was under $4, because I practiced miraculous restraint and reminded myself that I can get this through interlibrary loan and I'm literally only interested in her story and her introduction. How I had the strength to do this and still lost my mind later on is unknown, but at least I showed ONE ounce of restraint today.
-The massive Harry Potter World of Stickers book (truly tempting. but even $11.20 (the price after discount), while a great deal objectively, is a lot for stickers I know i won't use / a thick, heavy hardcover)
THINGS I GOT: (might photograph later but absolutely cannot guarantee it)
-A Mimi Matthews book! (Gentleman Jim, regrettably in its uglier original cover rather than the series-matching Perfectly Proper Press one but I'll still take it for access reasons)
-TWO Betty Cavanna books! (ugly Berkley Highland mass-market photo cover editions, and not ones I know or or am that excited about -- A Time for Tenderness and Stars In Her Eyes -- but I will literally buy anything from her. Also they were $3 each and came in plastic sleeves and, if ugly, are at least in perfect condition).
-Speaking of mass market vintage children's paperbacks in plastic sleeves, The Ghost of Five Owl Farm by Wilson Gage because I read another one of her books earlier this year and liked it. Also it was only $2.
-Did You Hear About the Morgans on DVD (clearance) so now we shall never be parted. 🥰
-I did in fact get the $3 pink edition of Fangirl, even though its spine is sun-faded, because I have spent fully two years now looking at the regular price of $10 and continually saying no to it. I just wanted the interior art!
-The Once Upon a Book Club special edition of The Lost Melody by Joanna Davidson Politano, also with its paper ephemera tucked inside, because that one I was somewhat tempted by when it was new, just not enough to get the full box. And it's even prettier than The Diamond of London, and it was only $6, even before the sale.
-Book 3 in the Alanna quartet by Tamora Pierce, in the pretty Atheneum trade paperback editions I'm collecting, on clearance for $2! Just one more I need now, I think. But should probably double-check.
-The Princesses of Iowa which wasn't even on my want-to-own list, but I happened to randomly spot it while walking past, where it was misshelved in adult fiction, and that felt like...a sign? Tell me why I spent $4.20 + tax on this though, even if it IS a pristine paperback, just because I felt surprisingly fondly toward it when I read it. (and it's pretty i guess)
-Scripted Unscripted, a random young-end-of-YA novel on clearance because damn it the cover is so cute and also I simply could not walk away from a premise of "daughter who normally helps her dog-trainer father on Hollywood movie sets randomly gets pulled to work in front of the camera."
#congrats to me on my 4th month in a row of being hella restrained on book buying for WEEKS only to blow it in the last few days *sigh*#a day in the life of televinita

*Maria places an arm over Michael's shoulder and grins*
Maria: Meet the new cameraman of Tiger News! Natalia: *stares at Michael in shock* Michael? Natalia: You've got to be kidding me. Michael: 'Fraid not. Michael: It's Hughs' latest idea for punishment. Luis: What did you do now? Michael: I ditched lunch last quarter to go to Admiral Burger. Luis: How many times? Michael: Eh, like seven or eight times last December. Michael: Cafeteria food doesn't cut it for me. Natalia: Oh wow. Such a badass. You skipped lunch. *Michael drapes an arm over Natalia's shoulder* Michael: You know that's why you like me.
