Have we considered alpha!Dream/alpha!Calliope with omega!Hob as their surrogate? I don't know if we have but I think we should.

Dream and Calliope want a child but it's difficult or impossible (what are rules in the omegaverse anyway if not a giant sandbox for us to play in) for an alpha couple to conceive, so they decide they will seek out an omega to carry their child.

Hob, who really wants to be a dad but whose life does not suit being a single parent, somehow gets in touch with them. They come up with an arrangement: Dream and Calliope will take care of Hob during his next heat (if you know what I mean) and they'll co-parent the child.

They were prepared for it taking a couple heats but Hob's heat is barely over when his scent starts to change. Calliope and Dream are very smug about it.

They are also very overbearing. They tend to Hob's every need and absolutely pamper him. He's growing their baby after all, it's the least they could do as alphas?

Is Desire pointing out that they are acting like Hob's alphas while all three of them are claiming it's not like that? Absolutely. Are they all pining? You bet. They're idiots your honour.

When Hob goes into labour a staff members makes the mistake of asking him if Dream and Calliope should leave. It's not their fault that it is unusual for anyone but the mate(s) to be in attendance for the birth, but that does not save them from Dream and Calliope's threats of decapitation. This is their omega bringing their child into the world and they will be there for him thank you very much.

Maybe they should have had the "wait you see me as your omega?" "you want us to be your alphas?" conversation in a setting that did not include pauses in the conversation wherein Hob is trying to breathe through the contractions, but they are all idiots.

The wait for Hob to be recovered and ready for a proper mating is absolutely agonising but at least they managed to get there.

It does not take long for Hob to move in and become pregnant with their second.

We have talked about this but we're gonna talk about it again because it's one of my favourite things.

Hob has been through various rocky relationships but he's in a place in his life where he really wants a baby, and he isn't getting any younger! At this point it feels like his only option to find an alpha couple who hopefully will treat him right. And he absolutely hits the jackpot with Dream and Calliope. They're perfect together and they also really want a baby, and they seem to be very liberal in their views about omegas, so Hob feels safe. The three of them discuss terms, and then it's time to start trying! No time like the present!

Hob is initially anxious that he won't get pregnant (he has been before but it was a long time ago and things change over time) but it turns out to be absolutely fine! Dream and Calliope give him the best heat experience he's ever had, and he feels so relaxed and safe it's probably no wonder that he's able to become pregnant so quickly. He's never had two alphas fuck him before and he legitimately sees stars when they both knot him.

He tries to stay out of the way once he's safely knocked up - the last thing he wants is to disrupt the alphas' marriage or be accused of homewrecking. But Calliope is so kind and gentle, and Dream is intense but incredibly sweet, and Hob gradually grows incredibly fond of them both.

One of my fave omegaverse tropes is that omegas have to be exposed to alpha pheromones to sustain a healthy pregnancy, so Hob is constantly being cuddled and petted by the two alphas. He tells himself that its all for the sake of the baby, but he can't help loving the attention. He's never felt loved like this before. Even if he only gets to co-parent with them, he's so grateful to have Calliope and Dream in his life. They encourage him, make him feel safe and reignite the best parts of his feisty personality.

The whole pregnancy has Dream and Calliope both dying to put their hands on their omega. Hob is the most beautiful thing in the world with his cute little waddle and his hands constantly holding his belly. Any opportunity for the two alphas to touch him is immediately accepted, and they dote on him by rubbing lotion onto his skin, helping him bathe, and massaging his sore feet. He feels utterly spoiled, but Dream and Calliope are just thrilled to be helping. The only time they argue or fight is when they're fighting over who gets to pamper Hob.

When they finally, finally figure everything out and bring Hob and the baby home from the hospital, there's an emergency cuddle pile for the four of them in the big queen sized bed. Hob immediately falls asleep in Calliope's lap, so tired and so sore but determined to be touched as much as possible. Dream cradles their newborn and Calliope just gazes between Hob and the baby with mega heart eyes. Their omega!! And their baby!!! They feel so incredibly lucky.

Just imagine how much they'll pamper and spoil Hob to make up for lost time. He's finally going to have the safe and happy life he deserves <3

Why is Hob more popular than Calliope?

This is a ship question. I'm genuinely curious. They both have about the same amount of screen time. They're both pretty fantastic characters in different ways. However, there seems to be a lot more love in fandom for Dream/Hob than there is for Dream/Calliope.

I'm a multi shipper and I can see both ships, but I just wonder why there is so much less between Dream and Calliope, considering their history and how much can be played with for their relationship before canon events.

Neither seems more or less attractive than the other. Both have good chemistry with Dream. Both have good personalities that we can see in the amount of time we see them.

So why isn't there more of Calliope out there?

Ok, I know there are fics where Hob rescues Calliope...But I REALLY want to see a fic where, after he rescues her, she offers him some kind of boon. Hob finds out she is a Goddess and his request is to be friends. He explains his own immortality and how he is lonely because the only other immortal he knows (who he is in love with), he only sees every 100 years and didn't show up to their last meeting due to a fight. Her and Hob become friends and commiserate on their love lives (Hob being in love with his Stranger and Calliope still being in love with her Ex) without REALIZING it's the same person. Eventually they fall into their own romance/FWB situation, completely understanding that part of the others heart belongs to that other person. Then, Dream escapes and shows back up. Hob tells him about her without actually saying her name, and Dream in turns ends up telling him about his own Ex. Dream feels jealous (without realizing it maybe?) But the conversation prompts him to visit Calliope to make amends. He finds out she has a lover now, but she never says it's Hob, and resolves to be a good friend to her. Hob and Calliope commiserate about their other person showing up and end up deciding that they are fine simply remaining friends, and make plans to help each other as a wingman/wingwoman. Except when the first plan is put into action, Dream shows up and they both realize it's the SAME PERSON. Hob and Calliope sit there panicking and Dream is confused before realizing they must be the lovers the other was referring to. Dream leaves the meeting feeling conflicted that the 2 people he loves have forsaken him for each other, and happy that 2 of the people he loves most have found happiness in each other. Hob and Calliope proceed to have a freak out together before realizing they don't have to lose each other, they can just BOTH seduce Dream. (I like the idea of their freak out being in public and a bystander just interrupting with "you know...poly relationships are a THING"...and maybe thay bystander is Desire in discuise *evil cackle*) Thus begins their attempt to seduce the IDIOT they are both in love with while Dream tries his best to not let his own feelings break up his friends relationship. Probably takes them practically jumping him at the same time for him to FINALLY UNDERSTAND. And the story ends with Hob/Dream/Calliope all being happy together.

I finally finished The Sandman! I haven’t read any of the comics, so I don’t know how good it is compared to them, but I absolutely loved it. I think Dream is such a cool character and I especially love the way he constantly seems one minor inconvenience away from loosing his fucking mind. The little group of him, Matthew the raven, and Lucienne is so sweet! I am a bit conflicted about who I ship Dream with though. On the one hand, there’s Dream and Hob who I’m absolutely obsessed with (have you seen the way they look at each other???????????) But on the other hand there’s Dream and Calliope and I’m also absolutely obsessed with them because the chemistry???????? The longing????????? The yearning???????????? All the unspoken words????????? But anyway I absolutely love The Sandman. Death is the most adorable and I love her.

1. What made you ship it?

The Calliope episode of The Sandman. Just seeing Dream and Calliope interact... *screams* they have such good chemistry despite being divorced lol.

Also, the fact that despite everything, Dream still immediately came to help her. He still obviously cares for her and I lose my mind every time I watch the episode.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

I guess I slightly said above. But I like how much of a power couple they are, an Endless and a Goddess is pretty cool.

Also, the fact that it is pretty much canon that they were good parents to Orpheus 🥺 (there's a comic panel of Calliope saying that Dream was a good father)

And going by the show, hypothetically, I think there's still enough there that could bring back their relationship. I'm not saying like canon to the show, but I'm saying their dynamic to me seems like they could work through their problems. (They just need a lot of couple's therapy /j)

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Hmm... honestly the Dream x Calliope fandom isn't big enough to have unpopular opinions if that makes sense. But I guess maybe this is more of a personal gripe, but why is this ship so less popular than others despite actually being canon at some point?

1. Why don’t you ship it?

It's too popular to the point where it's basically everywhere in the fandom and you can't escape it. Also, I don't like Hob Gadling. I'm also not fond of the ineffable husbands comparison, all because they're two Neil Gaiman characters that sit at a table a lot.

2. What would have made you like it?

Well, if better ships didn't exist I guess. And I feel like some parts of Hob's character could've been handled better if you know what I mean. Also, not every relationship has to be a romantic one.

3. Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

I've read a couple of dreamling fics that were very well written.

1. What made you ship it?

I'm not as familiar with the ship, but I've watched a bit of the old X-Men cartoon and I like their dynamic.

Um... from what I know, Gambit basically is very down bad for Rogue? and idk I like that. (But I'm not that familiar so please no one shout at me if I'm wrong 😅)

After hob finds calliope and beat the shit out of madoc until he freed her, they fell in love. Then they caught wind of Dream’s capture and they rescued him together.

Naturally they all three fall in love. Things are good for a while. Hob feels a strong compulsion to make sure his immortal lovers are okay. He takes the best care of him, making sure his home is always welcoming, even if they might go months at a time without checking in. He knows they’re busy. He’s just grateful for the time he gets with them.

Hob is a natural caretaker and he loves it, he really does, but after a while he starts having trouble getting out of bed.

Calliope has gone back to Greece to reunite with her sisters and Dream is restoring his kingdom and suddenly hob feels a fog coming over him.

He starts crying at odd times for no reason. He’s been caring for his lovers so hard for so long without rest or thinking as much about his own needs, and he’s lonely and he misses them desperately—but he doesn’t want to ask for more of them. They’ve had enough of humans demanding things from them. Hob is determined to get better on his own.

Luckily, one of his lovers is the king of dreams who notices the longing thread running through hob’s subconscious.

This is amazing - I am SUCH a sucker for Hob being cared for and having his mental health recognised by his partners. And this is such a good fit with the immortal throuple.

Like. Dream notices that Hob's dreaming vibes are a bit off, and he consults with Calliope about it, and suddenly they realise that they may have been neglecting their human a bit. It wasn't malicious, they just forgot that humans tend to feel very strong attachments and that it would be natural for Hob to miss them both very intensely. Cue the two of them descending on Hob as he rots in his bed. Suddenly he's showered in apologies and kisses and gifts. He ends up crying even more, just from the sheer relief that they noticed him. They noticed his sadness. And they didn't make him feel like he shouldn't feel that way.

He does get a very stern talking to, mainly from Calliope, about how his feelings are important and that he needs to communicate and not see himself as a less important part of their relationship. He is the glue that holds them together. He is loved and valued, and he should never feel the need to be silent or to hide himself. Dream and Calliope will always come to him when he asks, not because he demands it - but because they love him.

Hob will never have to get better on his own, when he has two partners who want nothing more than to help him.

Dream stares, eyes locked on Hob’s, as he slowly, deliberately, pushes his full pint glass off the bar. It shatters on the wood floor.

Next to him, Calliope gasps, then dissolves into a fit of giggles.

“Oh, you’re in for it now,” she says, voice filled with amusement.

“Am I?” Dream challenges, chin raised in obvious defiance. He raises his arm again, presumably to push yet another glass off the bar, and that is when Hob’s shock finally wears off. He grabs Dream by the wrist, and yanks him off the barstool to a standing position.

“Upstairs, now,” Hob growls, his face crowded into Dream’s.

“And you,” he says to Calliope, “are coming too.”

Calliope all but squeals in delight, hopping off her stool and grabbing her purse before she begins to follow them.

Hob thinks he’s going to have to drag Dream upstairs, but the other man goes willingly, pressing himself close to Hob’s side as they make their way up the narrow staircase. Hob can feel the erection against his thigh and he tsks as he unlocks the door to his flat.

“If you think you’re getting off tonight, you have another thing coming,” he says, before he yanks both Dream and Calliope through the front door.

They are both on him in an instant, all lips and teeth and tongue. Calliope is kissing his throat and working at unbuttoning his dress shirt while Dream is grinding himself shamelessly on his leg while he licks into Hob’s mouth.

It is a familiar song and dance. Hob walks backwards until the back of his knees hit the couch, and then, they collapse into a tangled pile of limbs on the couch. Hob is not the most fit man in his opinion, but his thighs have certainly grown more than enough muscle these last few months to support both Dream and Calliope at the same time.

It’s little effort to get Dream out of his trousers, the younger man far too eager to get to the next step. Calliope’s dress slips off easily over her head as well, leaving her in a lovely set of lingerie Hob knows she’s picked out just for this evening.

Normally this would be the point where they would fight over who gets to sit on his cock first. But tonight, Hob has a different plan in mind.

As soon as Dream manages to unwind Hob’s belt, he grabs it from the other man and gently pushes Calliope off to the side of the couch along with the belt. He then grabs Dream by the hair and pulls.

“Are you going to behave now?” Hob asks. Dream smirks and shakes his head.

“I didn’t think so,” Hob replies, before he lets go of Dream’s hair then pushes him down over his lap.

Dream and Hob meet each other at a grief group and it's like "Dead to Me" levels of fucked up where Dream is this angry man with a dead son and a wife who hates him and nowhere to turn and Hob is this man trying so hard to be happy through all his fucking pain and they bond by Hob's sheer force of will because he moved here recently with his job to help support his growing family and Hob has no connections for family here and Dream is a very approachable man (jk, Hob just can't stand people who are as chipper as he is when he's in so much pain. He wants to feel fucking useful and so he wants to help Dream with his coping. Dream kind of grudgingly allows it because Hob is the only person who gets what he's going through who doesn't hate him right now.)

Anyway, Dream and Hob commit murder together of the man who killed Orpheus because Hob's wife and son died of natural causes (and probably negligence actually, but that's season 2) and he wants to take his anger out on SOMEONE, so sunshine man gets his hands dirty and he and Dream kill a man whose negligence and reckless driving led to the death of Dream's son.

It's not dreamling, it's immortal throuple. and Hob, in his grief, actually brings dream and calliope back together by helping them work through their grief, and he falls in love with them, even though it feels like betraying Ellie (Eleanor) and they totally understand and don't push him and the three of them are like, sitting on the couch spending time together and healing together.

Calliope freaks out when ahe finds out about the murder because the police are investigating (Johana Constantine).

End of Season 1

For later - Something something Hob can see the dead something something.

Like all stories, this one started with a garden. But it wasn't the first garden ever or a garden in a nice house in Tadfield. This story begins with a garden in a now demolished house, in Varsovia.

The year is 1939, Dream of the Endless has been imprisoned for all the first great war and the pandemic that went after it. Death of the Endless has had the most busy time since the Roman wars and, let's face it, she's awfully overworked. That's why Destiny of the Endless managed to pull that especific scenario out of his book to reality.

Captain Howard (Hob) Gallen, medical soldier, actual inmortal, flies up the air as one of the bombs destroys what little left of said garden. He knows he won't die, it will hurt of course but he will heal. The ones with him though?

He falls right on his ass, wincing. A leg is broken, maybe some ribs, definitely his shoulder is dislocated. his head is a mess of scrambled brains, but he is concious and that is a blessing. beside him, a poor corporate falls on his back, Hob hears the breaking of bones, spinal bones. This lad is over. maybe the head too but Hob has some ringing in his ears from the explotion.

He crawls the few centimeters and tries to hold the poor lad's hand.

"Hey, John, buddy", he says trying for a smile "Hey, you are alright, yu hear me? I'll help you out"

"Sir", the poor fellow almost whines, there's a whistle in his breathing. Bad signal. "Sir, please, I don't want to die."

"Me neither, son, we got this. Please resist for me, yeah? be a good buddy and resist for me"

Hob knows is futile. But he is obsessed with living and that includes all the people surrounding him. Hknows in his heart of hearts that the lad is going to die. maybe he is already halfway.

"Sir, I know. I am not going to make it. I need a favor of you, sir"

"Whatever you want, son"

The lad takes a photo of his pocket. A beautiful lady, a fragile sweet thing made of lithe bones and wavy hair.

"She is Esme. We were going to marry. I want you to tell her... that I was no coward"

"She will know, son. You fought bravely"

Hob has just enough time to mutter his promise before he felt another impact. He felt his body coming apart and how one of his legs just ... disapeared. he wont die but, God, sometimes he wish he did.

Death of the Endless wasn't far but in someting that could only be described as "being so overworked you can't literally see" she doesn't feel the tug of Poor John's soul, calling for her. She keeps collecting, smiling kindly, offering comfort. She keeps doing whatever she can. She is tired and Destiny is almost smiling.

Captain Howard Gallen wakes up two weeks later on a Military Hospital. He has his leg back and all his cuts, if painful, are almost healed. He survived. He, also, is watching poor John standing by the foot of his bed. He looks angry but also hopeful.

The sound hob makes is so undignified that it doesnt deserve quoting here, understandable as it is since John looks exactly how someone would look if they were reached by two - not one -bombs and survived.

"You are awake finally! quick, I feel a pull that is eating me. Off to Esme we go"

And, honestly, he is way past his 600 years, he must know some thing or two about the supernatural. This still takes him by surprise.
