PREDICTION POLL: Which will be finished first, Hiveswap or Andrew Hussie's natural lifespan?

Important notes to aid your guess:

Hussie is currently 43 years old, meaning he's about halfway through a typical human lifespan, give or take. This is assuming no huge medical advances occur within the next few decades that bump up the average a significant amount.

Hussie's net worth is estimated at over $1 million, which is nothing to sniff at but also nothing mind-blowing, so he's not getting any cyborg upgrades or anything. Given the dismal state of his franchise and the not-nonexistent possibility of a lawsuit based on the undelivered promises of his multimillion dollar Kickstarter, this number can only be expected to go down over time, further cementing a standard human lifespan.

If Hiveswap is cancelled, for the purposes of this poll, it will be considered "finished" and Hussie will be declared the winner by default. (Also he'll like 100% get sued into oblivion, but that's irrelevant)

Work is *allegedly* being done on the project, but then again, that's the case for Homestuck 2, and that's not even worth a poll because it's currently set to "outlive" the heat death of the universe. That's a little unfair, though, as there is very real evidence of development (character art, backgrounds), and What Pumpkin objectively does exist as a company with employees that do work of some kind. Still, it remains a distinct possibility that this is all a front for an intentionally meandering, aimless development process so Hussie can run out the clock and not have to face the repurcussions of somehow misplacing $2.5 million.

Huh! The Sweet Bro & Hella Jeff trolls flirting with Tavros are the two fan trolls that made it into the actual comic. That's pretty neat! Their names are Mierfa Durgas and Nektan Whelan, I believe.

Yep. They donated 10k to have their troll featured in the webcomic. For one panel and then killing them. But hey, they are the only ones who ever got something out of that Kickstarter. Better being featured in a comic that ended than waiting forever to get the physical and downloadable version of a game that is taking more than 10 years to make since the campaign started.

like it feels obvious that hussie flipped the switch at some point from "vriska is a mutant" to "vriska has some powers associated with her caste" (and as much as people would love to blame this on hiveswap's creatives sullying the brand, aranea connected her powers to her caste all the way back in 2012 - like a day after the homestuck kickstarter first launched. that was 100% hussie's idea) but it is crazy to think that vriska being a mutant was also going to come with spiderman style web shooters at some point........ i do think this adds some plausibility to my theory that prior to coming up with the caste system (which we know kind of developed organically as act 5 was already underway) hussie was thinking of taking a much more comic book x-men approach to troll society

It really was all downhill from the kickstarter. I think that is when scope creep has fundamentally reached the point of no return. Both in Homestuck narratively (this was around the time of the dancestor shit) and in terms of hussies larger creative output. Hiveswap was truly such a clusterfuck of unreal proportions

Davesprite and Terezi Pyrope have a shockingly low Ryu number of 2, due to their appearance in Namco High alongside Pac-Man, and Pac’s appearance in Super Smash Bros for the Wii U/ 3DS. I’m not sure if a interactable poster of the character in the background counts in your rules, but if it does, this means Bubsy the Bobcat has a Ryu Number of 5. Going from the Bubsy poster in Hiveswap, to Zebruh Codakk who is both in Hiveswap and Hiveswap Friendsim(separate games), to “MSPA Reader”(who is a character in and of themselves), the player character both in Friendsim and Pesterquest, to Terezi in Pesterquest and Namco High, to Pac-Man in Smash Bros.

It does not.

Bubsy does not have has a Ryu Number of 2.

Hm. Seems a bit ambitious to me, but far be it from me to make any claim about the cost of video game development. Hell, I'd even buy that this is just a fraction of the true development cost and the $75,000 dollars is more of an interest check than anything else.

thinking about my personal relationship to hs. idk i do like it, it is very close to my heart but i feel that it's more as an object of past affection. i came back initially playing hiveswap bc i had helped fund the kickstarter as a teenager and i thought that it was really really good then i moved to the other stuff and bounced hard off the epilogues and hs2 bc it felt weird and bad and hostile. Just feeling a little strange about it tonight. like "why am i still here?" I've been having a lot of fun doing what i'm doing that's been enough for me, to play with the things that i like. maybe i'm just overthinking things.

Oh, that's an easy one!

Sorry this blog has been gone for so long, various stresses and other blogs took over, but I can get back into the swing with this short one perhaps.

These, respectively, are Mierfa Durgas and Nektan Whelan. They are fantrolls, created by SympathyPlan and Jedediah Long, who were the two people who donated $10,000 to the Hiveswap Kickstarter, for which the tier reward was to have your own fantroll design appear on a page of Homestuck.

As such, Mierfa and Nektan both appear on page 5966.

You will note, however, that the donation only specified appearing on one page of Homestuck. This is why, on the very next page, they are immediately killed.

Which is very in fitting for Homestuck.

(The "surviving longer than a single page" was actually another reward tier, for $100,000. Nobody ever reached it. There was another reward tier above that, too: $1,000,000, to have them become the most important character in Homestuck.)

They were killed by Calliope and Caliborn's father, placing them some time (likely in the far future) in Universe C. However, where they are, when, and which timeline (or even if it's Meat or Candy at all) in unknown.

They were *also* featured in this art update during Hiveswap's initial development, along with many other T-poses and 3D models of various characters, some of whom (like Joey, Jude, and Xefros) appeared in the actual game. However, as Hiveswap is a 2D game, none of the 3D assets were used, and are unlikely to be used in the future.

Here's there wiki page with more information, as well as info on the third fantroll, who was in Hiveswap, and *definitely* isn't a Limeblood. Trust me.

Oh, and also Sweet Jeff and Hella Bro cosplay as them to distract/attract Tavros during Summeteen romance. That sounds like a joke but it's not. Don't read Dave's dialogue on the bottom section of the page if you want your mind to ever feel clean again. (The funny thing is, what he's describing happening actually happens in the panels underneath, or at least the first part.)

Definitely agree they should focus on Hiveswap instead of reviving Homestuck^2/Beyond Canon. Hussie blew the 2 million dollars given to him and is not even part of the project anymore, leaving James Roach and the rest of WhatPumpkin to do the rest. It's been 11 years the Kickstarter campaign was up and funded. If they wanted to gain more money, they could at least make more merch based around Hiveswap too. They had done it before and could do it again without ForFansByFans. If Toby Fox could gain funds thanks to merch up on Fangamer, then WhatPumpkin should be able to do the same for Hiveswap. Anything to show that it's not a Kickstarter Scam to the levels of Mighty No. 9.

Floyd read homestuck (thats something else that is true for me even outside the tdau) but he's not the type of mentally ill where he'd apply quadrants to his real life relationships. He tried to get viva to read with him bc she is "soooooooooo nepeta core" but she checks out the second they bring out the totem lathe. He also tried to get creek to read it bc "you are my boyfriend and you're supposed to take an interest in my hobbies :/ like when I watch you do yoga and totally don't stare at your ass the whole time" so creek tried to "read it" but he didnt realise you have to click on the little tabs for the dialogue

Floyd's favourite troll is terezi. Hes bought every album on bandcamp. He backed the hiveswap kickstarter. He doesn't think hiveswap is nearly as good as homestuck but he thinks jude is silly and marvus xoloto is hot (he hasn't played act 2)

I'm glad to see a little bit of Hiveswap act 3 and Hauntswitch recently revealed, although they are not released yet. However, I'm worrid about thinking that Hiveswap has been unfinished for years and Hauntswitch was already-originally scheduled.

For me, I think the latter is similar to announcing a follow-up animation of an animated show series that is only finished in a non-broadcast episode 1. (For the context: The animated show was for a television audience. Its production company has postponed the show for more than five years, and they have never made a pilot episode of the show, nor released or broadcast the first episode full-video. Think TADC and Hazbin Hotel have been famous due to the pilots.)

I'm not sure if it's fair to compare those two together. Making games and animating (2D/3D cartoons) are different kinds of mediums. Doesn't help the fact that Hiveswap/Hauntswitch began with a KICKSTARTER first to help fund it. TADC and Hazbin Hotel had support from things like previous shows (Meta Runner), merch, and through Patreon. You don't see people playing 10k to get their OC in a show/webcomic. Call me harsh if you must too, but at least it didn't take 6-7 years to get an episode or part out. Hiveswap kickstarter started at September 2012 and was funded in full by October 2012. News of Hiveswap being a thing would be in late 2014-2015. And then Act 1 would be out on 2017. Act 2 would be out on Nov 2020. We are nearing 12 years since the Kickstarter began and 9 years since Hiveswap was in development. Hazbin Hotel's pilot was out in 2020 and then became a full show in 2024. A teaser of The Amazing Digital Circus would be shown in Jan 2023 with the pilot shown Oct 2023. The release of these are super different. It makes me wonder at what point will it take for people to see Hiveswap is a Kickstarter scam if they can't release the full game long after the Kickstarter began. 10 years? 20? 50? There's is only little you can excuse them being an indie if they got 2 million dollars and in the early years, wasted all the money and nobody knows how the game is still in the works if they are not even making merch to help promote the game's longevity. Toby Fox succeeds with Undertale and now Detalrune. WhatPumpkin does not with Hiveswap and Hauntswitch.

Awright kids, it's time to kick this shit into GEAR

Which is to say, I'm gonna be trying to regularly weekly update on the Ghotitank Kickstarter and Patreon. Some of you might be like "What the fuck is Ghotitank," which is fair because I've been braindead since 2019 and it's been real sparse in keeping up with anything. Anyway, we've been doing pretty well at being regular on Twitch, playing games on Monday and Friday (mostly Rimworld, Palworld, and Overwatch lately, but we def do variety). Someday I'll get back into editing too for Youtube--I still have a Hiveswap Best Of vid partly in the works that I rage-quit on because I lost some of the footage and have to replace it, but it's a fun one so I do need to get back to it.

Anyway, all that to say--I'm starting to exist more back in this reality, as opposed to the floaty deadspace in my brain. For you all, that could mean nothing! Except for the fact that I wanna do more art/fanart, so you might be seeing more sketches and drawings if things go according to keikaku

Scientists have taught a chimp, a young adult male named Horace, to read Homestuck. After finishing, he made himself a little pair of horns from carrot tips and vines, which caused the other chimps to beat him up and throw him out of the group. As none of the other chimps in the facility had taken part in the experiment Horace was a part of, and thus had no context for what the fake orange horns meant, it has been theorized that the exclusion of Homestucks from public spaces is a basic hominid instinct.

What's more, after being rejected by his peers, Horace was seen drawing what seemed to be a crude Trollsona on the walls of his cage, smearing fecal matter into the crude shape of a horned humanoid, even using bits of undigested corn for the eyes. Horace would go on to refine his craft, eventually managing to construct a crude Davekat acrylic charm from dead mice and grass clippings, which are currently selling for 3 mangoes each on his Etsy page. There are talks about getting him an artist alley booth at the next con, but critics suggest his tendency to violently lash out at "ships he finds problematic" has the potential to turn a cosplay convention into a bloodbath.

Horace was last seen bemoaning having given his entire stash of bananas to the Hiveswap kickstarter as a teenager on Reddit, complaining that he could never recieve his branded USB stick as he'd moved zoos since donating.

And yet, I don't know, it's genuinely, really, helped me process my own fears, yeah there still there but, it's not as bad as before, The Dark episodes helped me out woth my nyctophobia, especially when they passed through the Domain! I actually didn't like s5 all that much for the same reason you said, it was far more brutal than the previous stuff and i was so scared about martin's domain when we found out about it, but it fit him really well i think.
