If you love psychological thrillers, Alfred Hitchcock’s Spellbound is a must-watch! Featuring Ingrid Bergman as a bold psychiatrist and Gregory Peck as a man battling amnesia and a mysterious past, this film explores themes of love, trust, and the power of the mind.
One of the film's highlights? The surreal dream sequence crafted by Salvador Dalí, which adds an unforgettable layer of mystery.

The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog (1927): I watched this film last year, but it hasn’t diminished in my mind at all. Hitchcock clearly loved it, as he referenced it many times in interviews. It’s got the classic look of a silent film--all the actors purse their lips in that doll-like manner--and the makeup, the furrowed brows. The only detraction there is that I did get the two young male lead roles mixed up. They are very similar in appearance. Is this a narrative trick or just gross incompetence on my perceptive powers? This is sometimes a slow film, but the slow progression towards tragedy keeps you hooked. You think you know what will happen. Ivor Novello is magnetic as the title character. Believing him to be the Jack-the-Ripper from the newspapers, his hosts await the inevitable revelation. Daisy in the meantime, played by June Tripp, falls for him. If you only watch one silent Hitchcock, this is the one you should see. It’s somber but engaging and poetic. . EACH COCK IS GOOD /20

The staircase runs through the history of film from the the beginnings from the silent movie era (Nosferatu) over many horror and Hitchcock movies to the steampunk blockbuster "Bladerunner".... For this stairwell shot at night at 12, I had to rebuild the available space a bit as usual to place the tripod about in the center. Of course I exaggerated the colors as the cameramen do with these kinds of films. The staircase is pulled out of the angle in the manner of expressionist stage setups and thus deformed in such a way that the original is no longer recognizable. https://flic.kr/p/2mgSHAy

#NetGalley #ARCReview The Twelve Lives of Alfred Hitchcock: An Anatomy of the Master of Suspense by Edward White
#NetGalley #ARCReview #TheTwelveLivesofAlfredHitchcock is a new book that looks at Hitchcock's life and film through 12 different facets of personality. #alfredhitchcock #hitchcockfilms #psychomovie #vertigomovie #bookreview #bookstagram #bargainsleuth
I’m not quite sure when I discovered Alfred Hitchcock’s movies. It was sometime after Nancy Drew books and James Bond films aired on commercial television as the movie of the week. My best friend’s parents had a small selection of movies and we watched and re-watched Rear Window and To Catch a Thief over and over. Then, my freshman year in high school, we had a teacher who looked so much like…

Rope’48
Alfred Hitchcock is always one film director that I find difficult to critique. However, I went through my notebook of films I have written about so far and found there are three Hitchcock films. The fourth film is Rope from 1948 starring Jimmy Stewart, John Dall, Farley Granger and Dick Hogan.
This is a film I did watch once before but a very long time ago but did not write about it at that time because I did not know what to think. I needed to let what I watched sink in. It is now one of my favorite films. Strangers on a Train is a second favorite. It’s fall and its October so I thought it was a perfect time to re-watch Rope.
Like most Hitchcock films, I was glued from the very beginning. I can’t and won’t give too much away as to why I was glued. The film seems to move fast but it is because of how Hitchcock filmed the movie. Two friends Brandon (Dall) and Philip (Granger) strangle their friend David (Hogan) and hide his body in their apartment and throw a dinner inviting all his friends (Stewart) and family including David’s father.
Storylines aside this film is also cool because of the subtle details. Rope was Hitchcock’s first colorized film that was shot completely on a studio sound stage except for the opening credits. The character David is the true start of the film that is never seen, and the mention of his name causes great suspense and the murder weapon is seen in various ways throughout the film. A previous Hitchcock film Notorious is mentioned in party conversation and also there is mention of James Mason being a great villain in film, which actually did happen 11 years later when Mason starred in Hitchcock’s North by Northwest.
Upon further researching this film, I found that even in 1948 there was controversy of just being human. Rope  is considered one Hitchcock’s most controversial films and was banned in some countries and states due to the characters Philip and Brandon having a romantic relationship, which I find to be a little outrageous even now.

HITCHCOCKPALOOZA #3 #alfredhitchcock #hitchcock #hitchcockfilms #films #hitchcockpalooza #thriller #movies #drama #romantic #silentfilms #talkiefilms #earlycinema #classiccinema #blackandwhitefilms #robertburks #cinematography #greatmoviedirectors #filmdirectors #secretagent #rope #thefarmerswife #torncurtain #julieandrews #paulnewman #johngielgud #peterlorre #jimmystewart #farleygranger . Secret Agent (1936): This one features a young, very Sherlockian-looking John Gielgud. Peter Lorre plays another secret agent who gets very irritated by Gielgud’s too-goody-Britishism. Most interesting scene: a metal button spinning along the rim of a bowl. The dialogue in this film is quite good, as it is in nearly all the early Hitchcock talkies. Realistic and witty, even the ‘nice’ characters can be punchy. A german grandmother, speaking perfect English herself, asks the American in her group to speak a little German. “Why, your pronunciation is just terrible,” she says sweetly. There are love scenes, but not the horrible melodramatic kind. Hitchcock’s lovers, when they are not sparring, are enjoying each other’s banter in a more congenial manner— as Lorre’s character puts it, “the morning husband and wife exercises.” The rest of the film is not uninteresting when the scenes are about the characters, but the WWI-related plot is quite workaday, and the only point of interest are the war events that glide into that most famous biopic made almost 30 years later, Lawrence of Arabia. This Hitchcock is not one of the great ones, but it has its moments. . REVIEWS CONTINUE IN COMMENTS 👇 (at Franklin, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJtomzWhMzr/?igshid=1wczusrv8tp7j

Hitchcocktober 😱 🔪Day 15: Spellbound 💀 One of two movies he made with Gregory Peck (this one being the stronger), it's also one of three he made with Ingrid Bergman (this one falling in the middle for hers), it has psychological themes that he touches on both less and more successfully in other films. So it's kind of right around the middle all around, which for Hitch is still pretty darn good. • • • • • #Hitchcocktober #Spellbound (#AlfredHitchcocksSpellbound) #spellboundmovie #gregorypeck #ingridbergman #leogcarroll #michaelchekhov #normanlloyd #1945 #alfredhitchcock #hitchcock #hitchcockmovies #hitchcockfilms #hitchcockiscinema #alfredhitchcockpresents #themasterofsuspense #masterofsuspense #iLoveMovies #bluray #blurays #hitchcockonbluray #Halloween #halloweenseason #autumn #fall #spooky #spoopy #ilovehalloween (at Jersey City, New Jersey) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGYmZOZjdfa/?igshid=77q7j9xv1n59
