celebrate Preservation Month by eating a developer who wants to rip all the historical details out of an old house, replace it with cheap modern crap that's 90% plastic and probably also a fire hazard, and sell the place for an insanely inflated price thus contributing to local gentrification
(NOTE FOR THE PISS ON THE POOR FOLKS: I am not talking about modernizing a house's HVAC or electrical systems or rendering it safely livable. I'm talking about a very specific phenomenon here. use your reading comprehension)

tape, cardboard, and newspaper!!!
Tumblr media
to go a bit more into detail on this - from what I understand, this was on display* in a house for a number of years. This particular piece comes from the home of the harbormaster (a lovely man), and was exposed to light and about 50+ years of cigarette smoke. The boat in the photo is an early ferry in my area, and the cardboard it is mounted on seems to be some sort of church(??) yard sign(???)
we are still deciding the best course of action for this piece, but in all honestly, as a smallish museum/historical society with a laundry list of pieces with urgent conservation needs, we don't have the manpower to do anything other than keep it in a dark and temperature controlled space.
There are a lot of things that make me sad when I see pieces like this, because its so easy to see how important it was to its former owner, and it hurts me that we can't pour all of our time and resources into every piece that needs help. There are pieces even in this intake (which I cannot show because they contain identifying information about my location) that will be prioritized as they demand more immediate conservation efforts. Time can be a cruel opponent - and all we can do is our best.
anywho!!! all this is to say Support your local historical society!!! they are trying their darndest to preserve your local history and can't do so without community support! (and support does not always mean money!!! genuinely just interacting with your local historical societies can mean so much)
*I am unsure the specifics of where/how long it was on display for

The Reök Palace in Szeged, Hungary was built in 1907 following a bold design by the 29-year-old locally born architect Ede Magyar who was exposed to the Art Nouveau movement in Paris and Brussels. It was the first major commission of his career. The mansion is the finest embodiment of distinctly Hungarian Art Nouveau architecture, and it is the only example outside of Budapest.
The palace was built as a residential and commercial building for Iván Reök, a wealthy hydraulic engineer and Member of Parliament. In addition to his own residence, Reök requested a studio apartment on each floor for his two sons and two larger apartments for his daughters. The other apartments were occupied by military officers, university professors, and other respected citizens of Szeged.
Ede Magyar is sometimes referred to as The Hungarian Gaudi because his work resembles that of the well-known Catalan architect, but his designs were truly unique. Sadly, he died after shooting himself at the age of 35.

Archiving YouTube videos is activism, especially now.
Education on US history, LGBTQ+, racism, Palestine, and more WILL be affected.
Follow the 3-2-1 rule:
3 copies of the files on
2 different storage types with
1 copy offline
This will preserve your media and keep them safe from censorship.
Your favourite small trans YouTuber with 1k views per video will be forcibly forgotten if you don't archive.

Pretty much nailed it
youtube
This video explain perfectly how, what the Zionists call, the ”Israeli culture” is just them stealing elements from real Arab cultures and claiming that they are theirs. I’m not saying that cultures don’t implement things from other ones, that has happened in the past many times and it’s still happening today as we speak, but those implementations happened naturally and they were not done with the intention of creating a new culture.
Even if you’re not familiar with the methods of studying a culture(sorry for using the word over and over again) you can still tell that this knockoff is completely fabricated and not ancient like the Israeli claims it to be. I mean, dammi yehudi is just the Israeli stealing dammi falastini and trying to make it more marketable, like how Disney did with wish and we all know how that turned out. It’s not even a good ripoff! I’m not a musician, but I can tell that the songs have different intents and different feelings to them. “My blood is Palestinian” is filled with emotions of joy and pride in both the lyrics and notes of the instruments. “My blood is Jewish”, you would not believe my reaction when I listened to it. It was so SOULLESS!!! I kid you not, I could not stop laughing at how bad it was.
Also, if they intend to fabricate their own narrative about their “ancient history”, they do realize that they also have to erase any historical records of the region from other countries history too, right? We don’t just research one region’s history, we also research other regions history too so that we know how they viewed it. And from my own research of Palestine and the history of Jews in general, there is a lot of evidence and accounts that the Zionists have to either alter or erase to fit their narrative.
You just can’t fool people who know their history with this poorly disguised identity theft.

Ask not for whom the 300-year-old chipotle is photographed
It is photographed for thee
(also, I would like to respond briefly to someone who commented on the other post I made featuring the 300 year old chipotle, and Who seemed to think that I was entirely opposed to the idea. While I wish the building was still a bookstore, as it was for many years between being a publisher’s office and being a chipotle, the choice was basically between a chipotle and a parking garage. Meaning, the only way the building stays standing is because it’s rented out to businesses. so all things considered, I’m pretty happy to have the chipotle there for the moment)

The fireplace and Dutch oven in the kitchen (at the back of the basement) in the Old Merchant's House, 29 E. 4th Street on April 5, 1954. The kettle, with a swinging arm, was still in usable condition. The small, square opening to the left of the fireplace is the Dutch oven.
The Old Merchant's House, built in 1832 and now the Merchant House Museum, still stands and is open to visitors. Below is a spread from a 1944 issue of House & Garden about the historic house. Click/tap to enlarge.

It's so cool to see those beautiful bricks being restored on the Bell Building after decades worth of white paint. ❤️
Several years ago this was slated for demolition, to be replaced with parking. GSU was convinced to change their minds and pursue preservation instead. It's becoming a student success center.
