Someone asked me recently why my Rook’s name is Hissera, although she’s an elf. Let’s talk about it!
Tumblr media
The simple answer to that would be that initially I intended for her to be a Qunari, but found the character creator not satisfactory. I also wanted to pay homage to Sera from Inquisition, as Hissera is a constant ball lot laughter and energy and a ray of sunshine character very much taking inspiration from Sera.
Tumblr media
The canon answer for her lore would be that she wasn’t named initially, but as she grew to run around the city, the wisps would react to her with a hiss as she passed them, curious of the child.
She became known as the „Little Hiss” around the Necropolis, as the sound always heralded her arrival before she came into view.
Tumblr media
With time the few Qunari Watchers came to call her Hissera, both for the sound and for the Qunlat word for „hope”. She’s just a sight for sore eyes, a very enthusiastic and optimistic character. As for her nicknames, it would be remain Hiss, rather than Sera, until she took on Rook.
Please ask me more about her!

A sketch I did for @songofamazon's Quiz-Quisition
1: Who is your Inquisitor? Give us a basic bio of who they were before they became Inquisitor and any key choices they made during the Inquisition.
(answer under the cut, and I guess DAI fic spoilers...even though that won't be for a while)
Hissera was only eighteen years old when she rose to fame (Well, about nineteen when she became The Inquisitor, but details, details).
She had a life before that, though. She came from quite humble beginnings, in fact. She's from a little village in the general vicinity of Starkhaven. You can tell as soon as you hear her accent. It's a little village where a group of Tal-Vashoth settled together to watch eachother's backs. She and her stepbrother are some of the first generation of children to actually be born there.
Speaking of family, the sketch features her family. From left to right:
Tamassran "Tama": Her biological mother. She left Par Vollen while she was still pregnant with Hissera. She kept her name from when she lived under the Qun and...honestly sometimes isn't 100% certain of her decision.
Irene: Hissera's stepmother. She was born in Kont-aar to Viddethari elves. She's a mage, so got the standard Saarebas treatment...until she stabbed her Arvaarad and ran off for Darismuid. By the time she had met Tama, she had a toddler, who became Hissera's stepbrother.
Revesan "Taashi": Hissera's stepbrother. He's a year or two older than her. Both he and Hissera are the town troublemakers. Their given names, Hissera and Revesan, mean "Hope" and "Freedom." But they earned the names "Adaar" and "Taashi" ... The fireball and the dragon. He's a farmhand, but does end up working with Dennett once his sister becomes the Inquisitor. Keeping an eye on her to either be a support system...or be in the front row when things blow up tae fuck.
She started doing mercenary work at like sixteen. It was small time stuff. Half the time, it was just guarding trade wagons from bandits who would get scared off just by nature of a couple qunari being on the lookout. She wasn't doing really dangerous stuff until around the start of Inquisition. She really thought she was just going to work security at the Conclave...though she did also hope that things would work out in favor of the mages.
As far as her choices during Inquisition...Hissera tends to relate more closely with the "common folk". She and Sera hit it off right away (and I'll be real, they speak really similarly. They just understand eachother) She sympathizes with mages, and while she never experienced the circle, it's not like Qunari mages are...much better off. She was pretty in over her head most of the time, so she trusted her gut and her friends a lot. Major story decisions...see the template
Tumblr media
(Mages recruited as allies, Hawke left in the fade, Wardens recruited, Briala rules through Gaspard, Inquisitor drank from the well)
Additionally, Hissera never claimed to be the Herald of Andraste.

hellooo! for thedasweekend, maybe hissera/josephine for "a kiss attempting to convince the other party to stay"?
Thank you so much for this!! I love writing these two ^_^ Here's some pure fluff, set sometime between Inquisition and Veilguard <3
For @thedasweekend
Rating: T Ship: Josephine Montilyet x (former) Inquisitor Adaar Word-count: 536
“Can’t you just stay a little bit longer?” Hissera asked, snaking her arm out from beneath her bundle of blankets to reach for Josephine.
Josephine sat at the edge of the bed, fiddling with the buckles on her shoes. She’d already been mostly dressed before Hissera was awake enough to realise what was happening, and by then it was too late. “I am sorry, mi amor, but the Governor is not well-known for his patience.”
“But I’m the Inquisitor,” Hissera whined, rolling across the bed clumsily so that her partner would be within reach at last, and curling her fingers around Josephine’s wrist.
“A title that holds significantly less weight than it once did,” Josephine reminded her teasingly.
“We haven’t even had breakfast!”
“Then I will ask the cook to give me something I can eat on the way.” Josephine lifted her hand, Hissera’s fingers still attached to her wrist, and looked at her partner with a raised eyebrow.
Hissera released her, only to surge upwards immediately after, catching Josephine around the waist before she had chance to fully stand up and falling backwards onto the mattress with her.
“Hissera!” Josephine squealed, her shock quickly giving way to laughter.
Hissera rolled on top of her, grinning down at her triumphantly.
Josephine tried and failed to look angry. She reached up, cupping Hissera’s cheeks with her hands, and leaned up to kiss her. And then, taking advantage of the momentary distraction, switched their positions, leaving Hissera lying back against the mattress before releasing her.
She straightened up, reaching to fix her hair, and Hissera followed after her. She caught Josephine’s hand, kissed her fingers, before moving to press her lips to the back of her neck. “Is there nothing I can do to make you stay?”
“Nothing,” Josephine sighed, not very convincingly.
Hissera threaded her fingers through hers and moved her kisses around her neck, up her jawline.
“I intend to be home by lunch-time,” Josephine said.
“And what am I to do until then?”
“I don’t know. I’m sure you’ll think of something.” She lifted their linked hands, pressed a kiss to the back of Hissera’s, and then slipped out of her grasp once and for all.
Hissera sat on the bed, watching her go dejectedly.
She paused in the doorway, hand resting against its frame, and turned to shoot her a smile that made her heart melt; tender, and bright enough to bring out her dimples. “I love you. I’ve kept my afternoon free, if you’re willing to wait.”
“I would wait forever, if you asked me to.”
A giggle erupted from her, and Josephine hid her face on her hand against the door-frame. “I couldn’t ask you for forever. But a few hours, perhaps, no?”
“I think I can manage that.”
“Good.” Josephine smiled, head against her hand, a blush on her cheeks as she gazed adoringly across the room at her partner.
“Shouldn’t you be going?” Hissera teased. “I hear the Governor doesn’t like to be kept waiting.”
Josephine pushed off of the door-frame, closing the distance between them with quick steps. “One kiss, a quick one,” she said firmly, capturing Hissera’s lips with her own and tangling her fingers in her hair.

OC KISS WEEK 2025
Day 1: Desparate | Pairing: Talenna Ethera/Hissera Thorne (@kiastirling-fanfic)
Rating T: Sexual Innuendo, Drunk Kisses
Summary: Weisshaupt has fallen, but somehow, Hissera is still standing. Their team is still standing. Her leader, the object of her affections, is still standing. It was a close thing, but who knows when the next time might take them, so Hissera says ‘fuck it’. You only live once.
*~*~*
‘Fuck it’, Hissera thought.
She leaned down, and pressed her lips to Talenna’s. Open-mouthed and hungry, she let her tongue traced the soft seam of her leader’s lips before pushing deeper and tasting wine.
They had survived. Weisshaupt stormed by ten thousand Spawn, an archdemon, and an elvhen god, and they had survived. So why not kiss the hot, older elf for once? Why not just live while they could, and take what victories that came?
“I’ve been wanting to do that,” she breathed against Talenna’s lips, thumbs tracing across those strange purple branches that decorated the woman’s cheeks. They were hot beneath her fingertips. Her cheeks felt hot, though whether with wine, her thrill, or the exertion from their dancing, she wasn’t entirely sure.
She wasn’t entirely sure she cared so much either.
“Hissera,” Talenna warned, her voice low. There was the faintest whiff of whiskey and something tart on her breath– cranberry? Hissera felt herself drawn in by it. Craving it. Wanting to taste it again on the older woman’s lips.
Talenna tutted softly. “You’re drunk.”
“Maybe,” she agreed, dropping her hands back to Talenna’s hips as the crowd churned around them. “I’m also alive, which given all the odds we all faced today is a damn sight more impressive.”
Pushing with her hips, she spun them both, privately enjoying the mesh of their bodies and the heat shared between. The adrenaline still racing in her veins whispered sweeter ideas about having the woman pressed so close. She wondered what it might be like if they weren’t in the middle of Hossberg’s square. If they instead enjoyed the privacy of the Lighthouse, dancing to some phantom song echoed by the wisps, surrounded with walls where Hissera could be a little more honest to them both.
But for right now, she was just happy to be alive and have Talenna in her arms, safe. She could figure out the rest later.
Talenna huffed a laugh. “That is true.” Her body pressed closer, all curves and sleek muscle. Hissera’s hand ghosted up along the bend of her waist greedily. “But that also means you must continue dealing with any drunken consequences on the morrow, Stormheart. I don’t want you doing anything you might regret.”
Hissera frowned. “...Did you regret it?”
“No,” Talenna admitted after a moment, breathing the word like a whisper. Like a very sweet secret. “I doubt that there is a thing to be done that would make me regret you.”
“Good then,” Hissera said. And then she ducked to kiss her again, and this time she had no intention of stopping.
She dragged Talenna closer by the hips, curling an arm about her lower back to keep her there. Soft lips gave way, easing open to allow her another taste, and Hissera claimed it greedily. She cupped the back of Talenna’s neck and tilted her head further, deepening the kiss. Savoring it, even as the rest of the world continued to spin around them.
Today, she had lost almost everything. Countless brothers and sisters in arms, dead. Her only home, decimated. The single order that confidently stood against the Blight was now all but buried in it. But in spite of all that, today was a victory.
They’d killed an Archdemon, bringing them one step closer to ending the Blights for good. They had struck a mortal blow against Ghilan’nain, and had drawn blood. And Talenna was alive, and kissing her, and she tasted lovely.
Plenty to celebrate about there.
She made a soft noise as Talenna dragged her down and nipped at her lip, demanding her own claim to Hissera’s mouth as if she owned it. There was a desperation to it. A fierceness. Talenna clawed at her as if Hissera was the last gasp of air before a dive, pulling her in and keeping her tucked tight.
Hissera didn’t care if they were in the middle of a crowd.
With a firm hold on the woman’s thigh, she hoisted Talenna up against her chest, delighting in the way the woman’s legs hooked around her hips as she did. Hissera chased the elf’s lips again and again, rejoicing in the action each and every time. Forget regrets– she should have done this ages ago. To think she could have died tonight. To think she maybe wouldn’t have gotten the chance-
“Stay with me tonight.” The words curled smoke-like against her mouth, barely a caress, hot and sweet. Talenna’s eyes were like darkened gold, and her lips swollen and well-kissed as she repeated her request. “Stay with me.”
Were it not for the slightest give in her voice, that sweet insistence, Hissera might have missed the request for what it was. She had had plenty of nothing nights, spent with people she didn’t particularly care for, for the simple seeking of pleasure. This night could have easily been that, and Hissera would have been satisfied.
But with the way Talenna was looking at her– an edge of sharpness beneath the heat, that spoke of worry– and the quiet desperation in her voice, Hissera knew it was more than that.
But how much more…
“I would love to,” she admitted honestly, still not loosening her hold on Talenna, even as the fire in her veins faltered. Hissera was hardly sure of her own feelings on a good day. And Talenna…
She looked at the woman, with all her desperation and fire and wanting. Her feelings were too important to be risked on a reckless night of passion.
They were alive, which meant there would be other days.
“But as you pointed out, I’m pretty drunk. Think we can keep it above belt?”
There was a momentary flash of surprise and– to the slight pride of Hissera– disappointment in Talenna’s eyes, but the moment soon passed as her mouth blossomed into a warm grin. Her eyes flicked down to where Hissera’s hand was still firmly dug into the meat of her thigh, supporting the woman’s weight as she was held upright, and a spark of playfulness lit in them. “I would say that we are doing a fair job of that already. I do not see why that has to change.”
Unable to help it, a lopsided grin tugged at the corner of her lips. That was a terrible joke, but it could be forgiven. “Great. Think we could find an abandoned shack to make use of?”
Talenna lifted her brow at Hissera. “You don’t want to go back to the Lighthouse?”
“Takes too long.”
Talenna laughed, but Hissera was already scanning the surrounding buildings. She hefted Talenna higher in her arms and set out toward the most promising.
The elf’s fingers skirted through her hair just once, adoringly. “Fair enough.”
Hissera didn’t want to wait a moment longer.
They had survived, and she too was desperate.

I swear it's not on purpose that Lena's, Garrett's and Titus' ages are stepping on each others' toes like that, I did the math of where they'd be and they all just happened to hit the same-ish age :'D It is funny tho, that the "baby" of the group, is 36 years old tho, LMAO

I could've been anyone, anyone else/ Before you made the choice for me (Inquisition/Veilguard spoilers below the cut)
Had some early Inquisition on the mind. Hissera is my youngest Protagonist for my main worldstate at eighteen (though not by much, Helsi was nineteen when she was recruited into the Grey Wardens). I think about that a lot, and how much pressure and horror and trauma she was thrown into, and by no choice of her own. Ultimately, had Solas not made the choices he did, Hissera would not have become the Inquisitor, for better or for worse. On one hand, her being in that position of power and defeating Corypheus did do a lot for how Qunari are viewed outside of their usual territory. For a lot of the areas that she traveled to, Hissera might have been the first and only Qunari that some people had met or would ever meet. She didn't make the choice to essentially become an ambassador for her people in addition to the leader of the Inquisition, but she can only hope that she helped a few people have an easier time accepting people that look like her.
On the other hand...her entire adult life has been defined by being a holy figure for a religion she doesn't follow. Her body was physically altered against her will, once in the mark taking hold on her hand and again when there was no other option but to amputate her arm before the magic killed her. Solas started out as a friend to Hissera, and she's sentimental enough to believe that he has it in him to do better. At least, she wants to believe that Varric was right.
Been thinking a lot about Inquisition lately, especially since I've had some time to digest Veilguard.

Quiz-Quisition question 4!
4. Tell us about your Inquisitor's family. What does family mean to them?
Family's pretty central to Hissera. She grew up with a strong family unit and a strong community, and she values the support system that they gave her. Once she gets to the Inquisition, the inner circle becomes a sort of found family to her.
I already introduced Tama, Irene, and Taashi in question 1 so I'll go a little deeper into her relationship with them.
Tama loves Hissera. More than anything. She went Tal-Vashoth for her daughter. But they butt heads a little sometimes. Tama is used to the order and predictability of the Qun, and Hissera is chaotic and unpredictable. Their relationship is ultimately good but they just have completely opposite personalities. Still, Tama never blamed Hissera for any doubts or difficulties that she faced after leaving the Qun.
Irene and Hissera have a unique bond since they're both mages. Irene picked up some Rivaini techniques after she escaped her arvaarad, and she passed those along to Hissera. She was technically not an apostate too, since Irene spent some time at the Darsmuid circle. That circle was just really generous in allowing mages to yknow...have freedom. Irene died during the rebellion because she happened to be visiting Darsmuid to visit colleagues when the circle was annulled.
Taashi is a couple years older than Hissera, but since he's so much shorter than her people outside of their community tend to assume he's the younger brother. Nope. He's just short. They bicker and roughhouse a LOT, even as adults. Before he learned the name of the Inquisitor, he figured out it was his sister who had gotten herself into this situation. He ended up joining the Inquisition, not in a combat role but as a stablehand for Dennet. He's a good guy, but has a little bit of a temper (thus the nickname). Blackwall has absolutely come back to the barn from the Herald's Rest to see Hissera pinning Taashi down for getting on her nerves.
All together, this family only exists because two people in impossible situations found eachother, fell in love, and decided to support eachother as they move towards the future.
