Taking a break from ArtFight, sooo back to the Madoka AU, and next up is Goodsir :D
(Details under the cut)
As a magical girl: makes his deal with Kyubey after the funeral of David Young. He's emotional, so the phrasing is faulty: "I don't want anyone else to die like he did." Which results in, well, the variety of deaths we see in canon. He eventually realizes the impact he's had, which of course contributes to his despair levels.
As a witch: turns into one during his preparations to poison the mutineers - without noticing. The formation of his Barrier has a creeping lack of abruptness; it envelops the mutineer camp almost tenderly, like a milky fog. Hickey is the first to realize what's happening and summon his own magic.
On the inside, the Barrier is shaped like a conch shell, with empty medicine bottles stuck uselessly in the walls. At the heart of the spiral floats Haagen, the punishing witch, its curly hair spilling like tears from under the pristine executioner mask. Its arms are melded into something between a hug and a saw. It's weighed down by guilt, so it cannot move all the way around the Barrier, instead sending its monkey-like minions to sniff out witches among the visitors.
This one will only attack directly if you come close, but the noxious fumes of its Barrier, like smoke from wet wood, wear intruders down quickly enough. Though Des Voeux and a couple others succumb, Hickey manages to take the witch down and uses its Grief Seed. He also offers it to Crozier later, but Crozier feeds it to Kyubey instead.
A witch is bound to doom as many people as it saved while still being a magical girl. Goodsir doesn't kill many because he didn't manage to save many.

so here's a fun little PIDW AU idea.
after finally dying at the ripe old age of 200+, former demon emperor LBG wakes up in the body of his 12 year old self, on the day where he joined the cang qiong mountain sect in his previous life. he's understandably angry and bitter about having to face the misery of his youth all over again, but ultimately decides to take advantage of this unexpected second chance at life and be less of a downtrodden naive little lamb this time around.
the disciple selection goes just the way it did in his first life (LBG ends up going to the CQM sect again because, well, it's not like he can think of a better option at this point in his life), but when LBG meets SQQ in person for the "first" time and mentally prepares himself to be doused in tea once again, nothing happens. SQQ just drinks the tea he brewed and orders MF to show him around and get him settled before leaving.
and then the expected bullying never comes. his seniors (with the exception of NYY) may not be the friendliest bunch but they mostly leave him alone, and while the SQQ of this new life is still cold and distant, he isn't constantly looking for excuses to punish his most junior disciple. and whenever LBG acts out to purposefully test him, SQQ's punishments seem to be unexpectedly lenient.
which leads to LBG having a full-blown crisis. it took him so much time and mental effort in his first life to come to accept that it was the world around him that was inherently evil and cruel, and not him that was inherently unlikeable and unloveable, and now his new life turned all that upside down? apparently, it was indeed him that's been the problem this whole time, and all it took for other people to be just a bit nicer to him was changing his behaviour (even though he's not quite sure what exactly led to this monumental change).
unbeknownst to him, the SQQ of this new life also transmigrated into his younger fully intact body on the same day that LBG did. and he's working on salvaging his reputation in the cultivation world in order to be able to expose LBH's demonic heritage in the future.

Story Idea:
22 year old Gotham University student Danny finds a Damien clone whose near death and saves his life, offering to let the kid stay with him in his crappy apartment. The clone accepts, thinking Danny seems like a tolerable chump to bide his time with as he builds his strength for another fight with his progenitor for his rightful place as heir to Batman. Danny absolutely 100% knows the kid’s a clone and that taps right into his childhood trauma, making him want to protect him all the more. (Up to you if Dani is alive but in my version she’s not). Over time, Clone!Damien becomes begrudgingly fond of his new caretaker, especially after Danny starts taking him on Doctor Who style adventures through time/space and the tamer parts of the GZ (there are none) as part of his efforts to build up the kid’s confidence (outside his overcompensating ego) and help him learn to grow into his own person.
Bonus!
Danny and Clone!Damien are the downstairs neighbors to none other than Jason Peters (aka Jason Todd). They both clock him as Red Hood pretty quickly, but it takes much longer for them to connect him to the Waynes, so he’s kinda just their marginally more normal neighbor who happens to be a crime lord and who, for some reason, tends to check up on them a lot. (Originally this was because RH thought Danny might be an upcoming villain, then because he didn’t understand how Danny was alive, and then Clone!Damien moved in and he started checking to make sure that he didn’t murder Danny in his sleep). Luckily, Jason is a fantastic cook, so they are both grateful (to varying degrees) for his nosiness. (Is this a Dead on Main situation, are they just good friends? Who’s to say? You. Or me. But probably you.)

Allies in unusual places
J'onn J'onzz didn't have much hope of receiving help after he was captured. He spent his nights locked up in those terrible laboratories, surrounded by selfish people who saw him as an experiment.
Still he did not give up, he continued to ask for help from the heroes he had heard about. Heroes who could save him and stop the future invasion. Many of those calls were futile, but there were times when he really felt that someone had heard him.
Perhaps it was because he was distracted that he didn't notice the fact that he wasn't the only "experiment" in the facility. It was only after he was moved that he noticed the teenager huddled in one of the containment units.
The boy looked exhausted, doing everything he could to make sure no one got to him, kicking and biting every time they tried to grab him; J'onn's heart broke. It was obvious that the boy wasn't human, he didn't look like a Martian either, but it was clear that he was a living being. A living being that was constantly being hurt by human greed.
The Martian was an adult, an adult who could endure pain, an adult who understood how horrible people could be, but that boy? He looked like a child, a child begging to be seen as a sentient being. J'onn hated it.
The days when he heard his sobs were the worst. That's why when the heroes came to "rescue" him, the first thing he did was set the boy free. Not caring about the looks he was getting, he wrapped the boy in a blanket and took him away (he was so scared, kicking and flailing, afraid he was going to get hurt again).
Even as they argued about the invasion, J'onn never left the boy's side. The same little boy who told them in a weak voice that he could help them, that he knew people who could help them.
Danny wanted to do something for the Martian who had helped him (and wasn't it amazing? there was a Martian in front of him! Someone who knew space!), and he thought that a couple of ghosts owed him some favors.
Unknown to the halfa, many of his former enemies were looking for him, desperate for the disappearance of the youngest of their own. The ghosts were furious, and perhaps an alien invasion could help them release their anger.

Davros is the child of war -- a war that wouldn't end. A thousand years of fighting until nobody could remember why. So, Davros, he created a new kind of warrior. One that wouldn't bother with that question. A mutant that would attack and never ever stop. And they never did. The Daleks.

I don't usually buy the idea that Lawlight and Meronia are direct parallels of each other, but I DO think it's interesting that they have the same rough trajectory of: working against each other -> working alongside each other to take down a common enemy -> one goes rogue, resulting in the other dying

Love how Vox and Velvette seem to alternate between portraying themselves as the ‘head’ of their little trio, with Velvette referring to herself as “the backbone of the Vees” and Vox plastering his logo over everything and vehemently denying Alastor's insinuation that he couldn't go on without the other two.
And meanwhile, like… Hells entire cinematic industry seems to mostly centre around porn.
Like, I'm sure there are other films out there (Blitzø has apparently seen Shrek) but the “cinephiles” are all off watching “award winning demon bukkake shows”. And I'd be very surprised if the internet porn industry wasn't also pretty big.
Outside the main three Vees, Angel Dust appears to be the figure most associated with their brand. Not any of Velvette's models or Vox's stars. And posters of Angel appear in the Lust Ring in Ozzies, implying that Val's influence extends outside Pride, something that doesn't seem to be the case for the other Vees.
And the whole reason Vox had to hire Sir Pentious to spy on the hotel is because Val hires so many people that all the randos on the street who might be looking for a quick buck were already working for him. Given how sex-obsessed the culture is generally (and considering that for every pornstar Val hires, he's also going to need several camera people, sound people, set designers, editors, etc.) Val could easily qualify as the biggest employer in Pride.
And if he owns even a fraction of those souls, he'd probably be one of the most powerful Overlords with or without the other two backing him up.
And that's not even getting into the age thing!
All the Media Demons seem to be loosely associated with the era when their chosen form of media got popular.
Vel is the social media demon, and one of the youngest Overlords, seeming to have died in the '10s. Vox is the TV demon and supposedly died in the 1950s. Alastor is the Radio Demon and died in the 1930s.
Photographic porn first became a big thing in the late 1800s. Val's style of dress to me loosely indicates 1910s or 1920s. If we're sticking with the established pattern then Valentino could well be older than Alastor.
What I'm saying is: the reason Valentino seems so much less concerned with the image and branding of the Vees compared to the other two might not just be him being dumb and impulsive.
From his perspective, the whole Vee thing might just be something his boyfriend and best friend are invested in, that he just kinda puts up with (and, heck, probably finances) because it makes them happy and gets him out of Overlord meetings.
Out of the three of them, Val may actually be the one who would be most able to go it alone, and the one who is the main source of their power. Possibly the only reason Vox and Vel even get to argue over who is the top dog in the group is because the actual top dog is too busy with his real business to give much of a shit about their fun side project.

Jules Paymer wrote a song about how Angelina Jolie allegedly tried to hire a hitman for herself and their song for some reason inspired me and now I really want to write a fic where mercenary James gets hired by the broken black heir to take him out and he accepts the job but ends up not being able to follow through with it, kidnaps regulus, helps him find out what life is suppose to be like and in return regains some of his humanity back again

“They [the people] love the Prince [Arthur Tudor] as much as themselves, because he is the grandchild of his grandfather [Edward IV]. Those who know him love him also for his own virtues.”
"Polydore Vergil remarked that “a vast multitude of persons” flooded London when the date of [Henry VIII's] coronation was announced. “[E]verybody loved him,” Vergil wrote of the ceremony, likening Henry to Edward IV “the most warmly thought of by the English people among all the English kings...and for that reason [Henry] was the more acclaimed and approved of by all.”
— Don Pedro de Ayala on July 25, 1498 / Lyndsi Lewis, The Politics of Public Relations: Concepts of Image, Reputation and Authority in Henry VIII’s England (LSU Master's Theses, 2015)

Sooo... I got bored and started trying to make crossovers happen again.
And basically, I've realized how very close BNHA and Worm are to each other, as far as settings are concerned.
Like, there are underlying differences in the world-building, but:
Powers appeared from an unknown source
Heroes and Villains are a thing
Powers are very unique, but tend to be "thematic" in families
In my opinion, the biggest differences between the settings are:
BNHA takes place in Japan, Worm in the USA
Scion is a well-known "all the powers"-cape, AFO is an unknown "all the powers"-cape
Worm has Endbringers
And... that's pretty much it.
Which lead me to think about "BNHA with Endbringers" and... it sure does fuck with the setting a LOT.

"Pharma doesn't die" AU in which Rung holds back First Aid from shooting Pharma's head off and Pharma gets to live in prison on the Lost Light. Where he gets shitty therapy from Rung and probably refuses to admit that there's anything wrong with him at all.

on another note, amidst all the other disjointed things tumbling in my brain, i kinda want a shadamy fic inspired by oddworld bc my dad booted the game up the other day and the beginning cutscene was so jarring and so reminiscent of like the 90s sonic shows that i would throw everything down to revive sumn like that and make it shadamy
but *looks at my creative to-do list* i can't. i shouldn't :(

If you’re afraid of reading anything written by anyone with conflicting views to you because you think consuming media of “the enemy” will lead to thoughtcrime, you should perhaps do some deep thinking on the religious trauma you still need to deconstruct, and examine why you have replaced religious dogmatism with an ideological dogmatism your belief in is somehow so fragile that simply reading the wrong thing could shatter it.
It is important to read things, even doctrine heavy manifestos, by those ideologically opposed to you. It is important to understand their viewpoint and the people that wrote them.
Understanding is NOT agreeing with. Reading is NOT agreeing with. If you do not understand, do you even know what you are opposing? If you do not understand what you oppose, do you even know what YOU believe?
The less you understand those you are against, the less you understand about their beliefs, the shakier your own arguments, the more susceptible you are to propaganda, and moreover, the more likely you are to Other them. Normal human beings are capable of absolutely terrible things. YOU are no less capable of absolutely terrible things because you think the Right Thoughts ™️
Your enemy is still human.
Your enemy is still human.
Your enemy is still human.
Do not cling to political ideology as though it is a new religious doctrine with its own forms of “Sin”.
Important and Good are not synonyms. Many important things are terrible.
They are still important.
