It's funny to me how everybody just kinda assumed that Fred was a young man, with zero evidence to suggest that
Turns out he's probably not young and we still don't even know if he's a man either
(Do the Fed workers even have genders? They just call each other "it" despite speaking English.)
#qsmp fred#i mean fred being middle-aged or old makes perfect sense actually#he's a high ranking worker#his number is 02#all of that signals seniority#and of course there's him using internet explorer and googling slang#qsmp

i feel like out of all of the bat-siblings, jason is the one who puts on a persona similar to how bruce acts in public, but not because he wants to keep people from suspecting that heβs the red hood but because of how much it really unsettles the people that really know him, especially his siblings.
i just know that the second they hear him giggle or obnoxiously flirt, the entire batfamily is dragging him to the nearest magical specialist to get him exorcised.
and thatβs the exact type of chaos that jason lives for.
(also, damian also likes fucking with his siblings so when he sees jason put on his bimbo persona he immediately puts on a golden retriever type of persona as opposed to his normal black cat self, which freaks out his siblings even more).

do you ever think of a number and realise you've never thought about that number in your entire life and you just know this is the first time
#this post is about 1198#hi king this is the first time we've ever met#what are some other numbers i've never thought of#like obviously something like 23845892753897598233 i've never thought of in my life bc it's too long#but 1198 is short enough that it could've crossed my mind#1199 definitely has at least once. but why hasn't 1198#i mean maybe the number has but i was specifically thinking of the year#also i have a few ocs from like the early 1200s and who are mostly teenagers and young adults so the thought of one being born in 1198#would make a lot of sense. which makes it more impressive that i've never thought about that year#there's also times i've never thought of. never even seen on a clock.#like 23:59 and 19:07 and 13:50 and 1:49 are like brothers to me#i see them everyday#but then you get more obscure ones like 10:27 which for some reason i rarely see#other times during 10am are pretty easy to see but it's usually at the start or end#4:02 is a pretty rare one i don't recall seeing that that much#what am i on about. stop saying numbers and get on with your dissertation.#ramble

How I got scammed
If you'd like an essay-formatted version of this post to read or share, here's a link to it on pluralistic.net, my surveillance-free, ad-free, tracker-free blog:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/02/05/cyber-dunning-kruger/#swiss-cheese-security
I wuz robbed.
More specifically, I was tricked by a phone-phisher pretending to be from my bank, and he convinced me to hand over my credit-card number, then did $8,000+ worth of fraud with it before I figured out what happened. And then he tried to do it again, a week later!
Here's what happened. Over the Christmas holiday, I traveled to New Orleans. The day we landed, I hit a Chase ATM in the French Quarter for some cash, but the machine declined the transaction. Later in the day, we passed a little credit-union's ATM and I used that one instead (I bank with a one-branch credit union and generally there's no fee to use another CU's ATM).
A couple days later, I got a call from my credit union. It was a weekend, during the holiday, and the guy who called was obviously working for my little CU's after-hours fraud contractor. I'd dealt with these folks before β they service a ton of little credit unions, and generally the call quality isn't great and the staff will often make mistakes like mispronouncing my credit union's name.
That's what happened here β the guy was on a terrible VOIP line and I had to ask him to readjust his mic before I could even understand him. He mispronounced my bank's name and then asked if I'd attempted to spend $1,000 at an Apple Store in NYC that day. No, I said, and groaned inwardly. What a pain in the ass. Obviously, I'd had my ATM card skimmed β either at the Chase ATM (maybe that was why the transaction failed), or at the other credit union's ATM (it had been a very cheap looking system).
I told the guy to block my card and we started going through the tedious business of running through recent transactions, verifying my identity, and so on. It dragged on and on. These were my last hours in New Orleans, and I'd left my family at home and gone out to see some of the pre-Mardi Gras krewe celebrations and get a muffalata, and I could tell that I was going to run out of time before I finished talking to this guy.
"Look," I said, "you've got all my details, you've frozen the card. I gotta go home and meet my family and head to the airport. I'll call you back on the after-hours number once I'm through security, all right?"
He was frustrated, but that was his problem. I hung up, got my sandwich, went to the airport, and we checked in. It was total chaos: an Alaska Air 737 Max had just lost its door-plug in mid-air and every Max in every airline's fleet had been grounded, so the check in was crammed with people trying to rebook. We got through to the gate and I sat down to call the CU's after-hours line. The person on the other end told me that she could only handle lost and stolen cards, not fraud, and given that I'd already frozen the card, I should just drop by the branch on Monday to get a new card.
We flew home, and later the next day, I logged into my account and made a list of all the fraudulent transactions and printed them out, and on Monday morning, I drove to the bank to deal with all the paperwork. The folks at the CU were even more pissed than I was. The fraud that run up to more than $8,000, and if Visa refused to take it out of the merchants where the card had been used, my little credit union would have to eat the loss.
I agreed and commiserated. I also pointed out that their outsource, after-hours fraud center bore some blame here: I'd canceled the card on Saturday but most of the fraud had taken place on Sunday. Something had gone wrong.
One cool thing about banking at a tiny credit-union is that you end up talking to people who have actual authority, responsibility and agency. It turned out the the woman who was processing my fraud paperwork was a VP, and she decided to look into it. A few minutes later she came back and told me that the fraud center had no record of having called me on Saturday.
"That was the fraudster," she said.
Oh, shit. I frantically rewound my conversation, trying to figure out if this could possibly be true. I hadn't given him anything apart from some very anodyne info, like what city I live in (which is in my Wikipedia entry), my date of birth (ditto), and the last four digits of my card.
Wait a sec.
He hadn't asked for the last four digits. He'd asked for the last seven digits. At the time, I'd found that very frustrating, but now β "The first nine digits are the same for every card you issue, right?" I asked the VP.
I'd given him my entire card number.
Goddammit.
The thing is, I know a lot about fraud. I'm writing an entire series of novels about this kind of scam:
https://us.macmillan.com/books/9781250865878/thebezzle
And most summers, I go to Defcon, and I always go to the "social engineering" competitions where an audience listens as a hacker in a soundproof booth cold-calls merchants (with the owner's permission) and tries to con whoever answers the phone into giving up important information.
But I'd been conned.
Now look, I knew I could be conned. I'd been conned before, 13 years ago, by a Twitter worm that successfully phished out of my password via DM:
https://locusmag.com/2010/05/cory-doctorow-persistence-pays-parasites/
That scam had required a miracle of timing. It started the day before, when I'd reset my phone to factory defaults and reinstalled all my apps. That same day, I'd published two big online features that a lot of people were talking about. The next morning, we were late getting out of the house, so by the time my wife and I dropped the kid at daycare and went to the coffee shop, it had a long line. Rather than wait in line with me, my wife sat down to read a newspaper, and so I pulled out my phone and found a Twitter DM from a friend asking "is this you?" with a URL.
Assuming this was something to do with those articles I'd published the day before, I clicked the link and got prompted for my Twitter login again. This had been happening all day because I'd done that mobile reinstall the day before and all my stored passwords had been wiped. I entered it but the page timed out. By that time, the coffees were ready. We sat and chatted for a bit, then went our own ways.
I was on my way to the office when I checked my phone again. I had a whole string of DMs from other friends. Each one read "is this you?" and had a URL.
Oh, shit, I'd been phished.
If I hadn't reinstalled my mobile OS the day before. If I hadn't published a pair of big articles the day before. If we hadn't been late getting out the door. If we had been a little more late getting out the door (so that I'd have seen the multiple DMs, which would have tipped me off).
There's a name for this in security circles: "Swiss-cheese security." Imagine multiple slices of Swiss cheese all stacked up, the holes in one slice blocked by the slice below it. All the slices move around and every now and again, a hole opens up that goes all the way through the stack. Zap!
The fraudster who tricked me out of my credit card number had Swiss cheese security on his side. Yes, he spoofed my bank's caller ID, but that wouldn't have been enough to fool me if I hadn't been on vacation, having just used a pair of dodgy ATMs, in a hurry and distracted. If the 737 Max disaster hadn't happened that day and I'd had more time at the gate, I'd have called my bank back. If my bank didn't use a slightly crappy outsource/out-of-hours fraud center that I'd already had sub-par experiences with. If, if, if.
The next Friday night, at 5:30PM, the fraudster called me back, pretending to be the bank's after-hours center. He told me my card had been compromised again. But: I hadn't removed my card from my wallet since I'd had it replaced. Also, it was half an hour after the bank closed for the long weekend, a very fraud-friendly time. And when I told him I'd call him back and asked for the after-hours fraud number, he got very threatening and warned me that because I'd now been notified about the fraud that any losses the bank suffered after I hung up the phone without completing the fraud protocol would be billed to me. I hung up on him. He called me back immediately. I hung up on him again and put my phone into do-not-disturb.
The following Tuesday, I called my bank and spoke to their head of risk-management. I went through everything I'd figured out about the fraudsters, and she told me that credit unions across America were being hit by this scam, by fraudsters who somehow knew CU customers' phone numbers and names, and which CU they banked at. This was key: my phone number is a reasonably well-kept secret. You can get it by spending money with Equifax or another nonconsensual doxing giant, but you can't just google it or get it at any of the free services. The fact that the fraudsters knew where I banked, knew my name, and had my phone number had really caused me to let down my guard.
The risk management person and I talked about how the credit union could mitigate this attack: for example, by better-training the after-hours card-loss staff to be on the alert for calls from people who had been contacted about supposed card fraud. We also went through the confusing phone-menu that had funneled me to the wrong department when I called in, and worked through alternate wording for the menu system that would be clearer (this is the best part about banking with a small CU β you can talk directly to the responsible person and have a productive discussion!). I even convinced her to buy a ticket to next summer's Defcon to attend the social engineering competitions.
There's a leak somewhere in the CU systems' supply chain. Maybe it's Zelle, or the small number of corresponding banks that CUs rely on for SWIFT transaction forwarding. Maybe it's even those after-hours fraud/card-loss centers. But all across the USA, CU customers are getting calls with spoofed caller IDs from fraudsters who know their registered phone numbers and where they bank.
I've been mulling this over for most of a month now, and one thing has really been eating at me: the way that AI is going to make this kind of problem much worse.
Not because AI is going to commit fraud, though.
One of the truest things I know about AI is: "we're nowhere near a place where bots can steal your job, we're certainly at the point where your boss can be suckered into firing you and replacing you with a bot that fails at doing your job":
https://pluralistic.net/2024/01/15/passive-income-brainworms/#four-hour-work-week
I trusted this fraudster specifically because I knew that the outsource, out-of-hours contractors my bank uses have crummy headsets, don't know how to pronounce my bank's name, and have long-ass, tedious, and pointless standardized questionnaires they run through when taking fraud reports. All of this created cover for the fraudster, whose plausibility was enhanced by the rough edges in his pitch - they didn't raise red flags.
As this kind of fraud reporting and fraud contacting is increasingly outsourced to AI, bank customers will be conditioned to dealing with semi-automated systems that make stupid mistakes, force you to repeat yourself, ask you questions they should already know the answers to, and so on. In other words, AI will groom bank customers to be phishing victims.
This is a mistake the finance sector keeps making. 15 years ago, Ben Laurie excoriated the UK banks for their "Verified By Visa" system, which validated credit card transactions by taking users to a third party site and requiring them to re-enter parts of their password there:
https://web.archive.org/web/20090331094020/http://www.links.org/?p=591
This is exactly how a phishing attack works. As Laurie pointed out, this was the banks training their customers to be phished.
I came close to getting phished again today, as it happens. I got back from Berlin on Friday and my suitcase was damaged in transit. I've been dealing with the airline, which means I've really been dealing with their third-party, outsource luggage-damage service. They have a terrible website, their emails are incoherent, and they officiously demand the same information over and over again.
This morning, I got a scam email asking me for more information to complete my damaged luggage claim. It was a terrible email, from a noreply@ email address, and it was vague, officious, and dishearteningly bureaucratic. For just a moment, my finger hovered over the phishing link, and then I looked a little closer.
On any other day, it wouldn't have had a chance. Today β right after I had my luggage wrecked, while I'm still jetlagged, and after days of dealing with my airline's terrible outsource partner β it almost worked.
So much fraud is a Swiss-cheese attack, and while companies can't close all the holes, they can stop creating new ones.
Meanwhile, I'll continue to post about it whenever I get scammed. I find the inner workings of scams to be fascinating, and it's also important to remind people that everyone is vulnerable sometimes, and scammers are willing to try endless variations until an attack lands at just the right place, at just the right time, in just the right way. If you think you can't get scammed, that makes you especially vulnerable:

part 2
Series
In the Margins (a s f) by @bonvoyagenoona βΉββ You werenβt sure what he would look like. His writing made you think of a cabin nestled among tall pines, a well-worn cardigan, a scotch neat, and a wistful wisp of smoke seeping into the air from the bowl of an unattended tobacco pipe. What stands before you now is a studio apartment in the city, cigarette butts, coffee stains, and a scowl. Thereβs definitely been a mistake.
Fix You (f a) by @casuallyimagining βΉββ When you take in a stray cat, you have no idea heβs secretly a hybrid trying to escape his past. Can you help him heal?
desolate (a f s) by @angelicyoongie βΉββ you just wanted a cute little normal cat to keep you company. so you're not really sure how you ended up with the grumpiest hybrid on earth that seems hellbent on making your life difficult.

Set Me Free (a f) by @casuallyimagining βΉββ Tired of being told how to live his life and unsure of where he stands in the world, Yoongi--your soulmate--yearns to be free. When you give him what he wants, it causes a rift in your relationship that seems irreparable. 12 years later, you find him back in your life. Can you mend your relationship? Do you even want to?
back-burner (a f s) by @yoonpobs βΉββ sometimes you felt like you were the back-burner of a two-decade-long friendship. how could you ever compete?
Love Language (a s f) by @gukslut βΉββ Your boyfriend obviously loves you, but his silence has you questioning if he *wants* you. If you could only get past your damn insecurities maybe you could appreciate what you have.
27 Phone Numbers (f) by @bxebxee βΉββ Yoongi has gone through twenty-seven phone numbers over the last ten years, and you havenβt changed yours since high school.Β
sweetner (f s) by @taegularities βΉββ You used to know how he sounded when you were wrapped around him, but circumstances have pulled you apart and sent you scattering in opposite directions. Feelings shouldn't reappear so easily by simple words, but when you find yourselves in the same place once again, this is exactly what happens.
One Chance (f) by @out-of-jams βΉββ A musical genius, a guy with a bad reputation, your assigned partner for your final project. And the last thing you ever would have expected.
Seasons Change (a s) by @taetaesbaebaepsae βΉββ Min Yoongi and you, through the seasons, break up and come back together. Nobody said love was easy.
All That Holly, Jolly Sh*t (a f s) by @daechwitatamic βΉββ You havenβt seen or heard from Yoongi since he broke your heart five years ago, laying out a logical list of reasons why you were better off breaking up. When a Christmas Eve blizzard traps you together for the night, you have no choice but to examine how few of those reasons are still true. And if theyβre notβ¦ where does that leave you?
Now We Reign (a s f) by @oddinary4bts βΉββ when working on a collab together makes you and Min Yoongi seek comfort with the other, you discover thereβs more to life than loneliness. note: Hi! I've been a little inactive, right? I've been busy, but there's always time to write something about Leon hahaπ
tags: riding, unprotected sex, creampie, Leon damnation (or any older!Leon) x fem! reader.
Thinking about lazy sex with Leon.
You're on top of him, your face hidden in his neck and your hands rested on his shoulders releasing little moans into his skin. His hands held your hips, helping your movements slowly.
Leon's eyes remained narrowed and his brows furrowed in pleasure at the feel of your wet walls sliding over and over him. You two hadn't even finished removing your clothes, because his pants were down his thighs and your underwear to one side.
"Come on, pretty girl... You-ah feel so good." He murmured against your shoulder, inhaling your scent and leaving occasional kisses on your soft skin.
"Are you tired-?" he asked, a low, husky laugh escaping his lips. He looked up at you through his lashes with eyes heavy with pleasure and sleep, bringing his lips to one of your breasts moving your strappy t-shirt up, ruffling it there. He began sucking on your nipple gently, watching your reaction before he began sucking harder. He caught the tender flesh between his teeth, tugging gently. When he hears your little "huh-huh," he smiled releasing your breast with an obscenely loud 'pop.' He padded his feet on the bed and held your hips tightly, beginning to lift you up and down his cock as if you were a sex doll.
"There you go. Feels good-?" he asked again, because it was hard to control his tongue when you were clenching so tightly around him and clouding his drunken brain with the wet noise of your pussy. Low moans escaped his lips, starting to move his hips upward so he could ram you and hit that spongy spot inside you that his dripping tip was obsessed with.
Little moans from you and breathless gasps from him quickly filled the dark room lit by the red numbers marking 02:42 A.M on the little clock next to you. It wasn't often Leon would wake up so needy, but it had been days since he'd laid hands on you and his cock was already screaming for release.
"Damn. Damnit." Little curses and breathless grunts came from Leon's lips that were always flavored with the taste of your liquor. His teeth dug into your shoulder futilely, trying to silence his pathetic moans. His cock began to jerk inside you, for it no longer had the same resistance it had years before. But it didn't matter, because his calloused fingers were always there to give attention to your cute little clit. Your walls tightened around it, starting to feel that familiar sensation in your lower belly. And Leon's careless lunges only turned you on more, because you knew you were the only one who could make a man like him go all messy and dumb for your pussy.
And it's almost funny the pathetic, broken moan he lets out when your walls finally squeeze him, letting your juices splash down his thighs and abdomen creating wet sounds. Your body immediately relaxed, letting Leon continue to mindlessly fuck your brains out. And in one particular lunge, he thrusts his hips up and yours down, letting his cum explode inside you.
You heard his voice saying something, asking something. But your brain was melted, shaking on his chest trying to cope with the sensations of your orgasm and Leon's cum beginning to seep through your folds.
"Are you still with me, honey? Huh-?" he murmured, giving you that typical smile of his. And you opened your eyelids heavy with pleasure, trying to focus your gaze. You let out a little moan, realizing that Leon was settling you face down on the sheets.
"One more time. Please." He asked, settling in behind you. He pressed his chest against your back, his fingers moving to finally slide your ruined underwear down your thighs.
Because lazy sex with Leon always ended in him fucking your brains out until you fell asleep again.
hey! did you like it? please let me know it π
(π) bye, bye !

hockey player simon pt 02 // pt 01
simon topples to the ground, his padded knees hitting the ice. he feels bodies pile on top of him, gear and feet pressing into his sides, not with ill intentionsβwell, not completely with ill intentionsβbut simon does not care.
he saw that winning shot land, heard the cries of their fansβthey're playing in home rink tooβand feels the thrill of victory wash over him.
the referees pull them off each other and simon finally gets to stand. his chest is heaving, the cool air and the heat of his exhausted body causing miasmic reactions into his being. add that pretty doll of a fan heβs been eyeing into the mix, and the feeling of elation bloats.
peaking.
they rush off court, their coach trying to contain their buzzed energy just enough to be able to properly burn it off in the weight room. simon lags at the very back, eyes still flicking to that section in the audience as though by doing so, heβd get a quick glance of you.
of course he doesnβt, not when everyoneβs turned into blurred specksβcompact seas of their jersey colours.
βriley!β their coach hollers. βletβs go, letβs go!β
simon shoots towards him, his sheathed skates thudding against the padded floor as he makes his way into the weight room. johnny claps him on his back, their team cheering for him as he passes them on his way to the bench press, but he couldnβt really focus, not with his mind running; trying to make excuses thatβd allow him to slip away just for a moment to scour the arena for, well, you, but nothing ever sticks.
every single one sounds pathetic and impractical. say, he was given the go-signal to roam around, what exactly are the chances heβd come across you again?
apparently, one-fuckinβ-hundred percent.
βoh!β you gasp upon seeing him, your palm falling flat atop your chest in your surprise.
simon stumbles to his feet himself, his previous finesse on ice apparently having gotten zapped out the moment heβs back on land. garrick and mactavish turn, not expecting simon to stop, and even your friends, it seem, did not expect this run-in, as well.
simon watches as your lips part open, like you are gearing yourself up for a word, only to shut them close in your hesitation. you flit your eyes to him and away again, shyness rippling from your very movements.
he takes pity on you, and greets, βhey.β
itβs late when he realizes that heβs raised his hand up for a weak, little wave. he hears the distinct muffled laughter from mactavish already. garrick, at least, has the decency to actually smother it.
muppets, the two of them.
βhi!β you reply, giddy, your face beaming as you smile up at him.
lord, he thinks, youβre even more beautiful up close.
simon canβt help the way his lips tug up too, his own heart churning at the elation that is still singing in his veins. he pretends to not notice the way your friends shimmy out of his eyesight, pointing to their phones as though to say just give them a ring when you are done with your business with simon, before they run away, giggling to each other.
he twists to make discreet eye contact with his teammates. he tilts his head to the side, hoping to christ almighty that they take the hint.
go away.
he almost rejoices when they actually do, the two of them sending you polite smiles before walking away too. with your back turned to them, they make smooching actions, mactavish has even turned his back to simon, crossed his arms over himself, and ran his hands over his sides in mimicry of a hot make-out session.
garrick barks out a laugh, the sound ricocheting, and it takes your startled glance back at them for the two to truly scurry away.
you turn around to see him pinching the bridge of his nose in exasperation.
βsorry about them,β he murmurs, hand leaving his face to rub at the back of his neck. he feels his ears burning, surely flushed in his secondhand embarrassment.
βthatβs okay,β you reply, fiddling with the hem of your shirt. a jerseyβhis number. βcongratulations, by the way.β
then, your smile grows bigger. brighter. βyou were so cool! you went zoominβ to our side and next thing we know you wereββ
your words peter into a quiet stutter, like the events are unfolding in your memories the way his are too.
he remembers the high of having pointed at you; dedicating the winning shot to the fan whose awed look lit the fire in him. he remembers the certainty in him that he was going to land that shot; so sure he was of his victory.
it was exhilarating. dizzying.
βwas itβ did you mean it?β
βof course,β he croaks out, sweltering from within.
βoh,β you murmur, breathless, before whispering to him your name.
simon repeats it out loud, and it drips from his tongue like he was meant to always sound it out. like your name was meant for him to call.
you stare up at him with those beautiful, dazzling eyes, and he knows that heβs addicted. hooked.
βdo you want to grab somethinβ?β he asks, desperate to be with you for as long as youβll let him.
βyes,β you reply, eyes crinkling in your delighted smile. βthatβd be wonderful.β
you two walk side-by-side, mere inches between your shoulder and his, but simon wants you closer. he wants to bask in your warmth, in your scent. what do you smell like? something sweet and floral? or something clean?
he wants so much more.
as you warm up to him, smiling and laughing, and exchanging shy banters that has him feeling parched, simon realizes that thereβs something beyond winning the playoffs and the cup that he is so desperate to fulfill.
fuck me.
this is still very much delusions of the heart but let me have it pls π more than anything, i enjoyed writing hockey au sm and honestly i think u guys might have to pry this out of my clasped hands hhdhsh
#simon ghost riley x reader#simon riley x reader#ghost x reader#simon ghost riley#hockey au#suns#the delusions are through the roof pls dont @ me bc id actually cry π

SIT BACK, BABY
written for @joelmillerisapunk's #PPCUBodyWorshipChallenge
RATING: Explicit (18+) | PAIRING: Frankie Morales x f!Reader BODY PART: Thighs | WORD COUNT: 4.1k CW: Smut (m!oral), pwp, drinking (not during smut), sorta sub!Frankie.
SUMMARY: You've got a crush on your neighbor across the hall and finally get the chance to show him you care.
read on ao3 | almostfoxglove masterlist
Your alarm clock reads 2:02 A.M. when you stir from a sweat-stained dream.Β
Someone is breaking into your apartment.
Or soundsΒ like they're trying to break in, at least. The awkward stabbing and metal scrape of disobedient picks and keys. A sudden fear cleaves through you, skull to stomach, and just like that youβre wide awake. Then you hear a familiar voice mutter, βFucking pleaseββ
And you sigh. Youβre not in any danger.
Yellow light leaks into your apartment from the hall where you find your mountain of a neighbor slumped on his knees at your feet, one hand raised at the level of your lock, a silver key pinched between his forefinger and thumb.
He tilts his chin up, letting you glimpse beneath the brim of his navy ball cap the glassiness of his warm eyes, the flush of his cheeks. His lips part, bewildered or lost. The man looks hopelessly drunk.Β
βHaanng on,β Frankie grins, squinting up at you. βYouβre in my apartment?β
He drops his hand and his apartment key slips from his grasp onto the floor, unnoticed by him. Youβve lived across the hall from him for two years, steadfast in your belief that fucking anyone who lives in your buildingβor frankly, within a three block radiusβis a hideous mistake. Has that made your hopeless crush on him any lessβ¦ crushing?
Absolutely fucking not.
Now, seeing Frankie on his knees is doing something terrible to your brain. Giving it all sorts of ideas. You blame his jeans, the brawn of his thighsβhow badly youβd like to sink your teeth into them surprises you.
βMy apartment, actually,β you correct, lifting one finger to point over his shoulder, across the hall. Frankie turns and, sure enough, recognizes his apartment number gleaming on the door.
βShit,β he says. You make a point of staring him dead in the eye even when youβd usually look away, just so you donβt look at his legs. The spread of his knees on the carpeted floor.Β
Doe-eyed, Frankie blinks up at youβhelpless as a pupβas need stirs in your stomach. The urge to hold him. To take care of him for a while.
βIβm a lilβ drunk,β he admits in a whisper, like itβs a secret, like you wouldnβt have known.
Scoffing, you shake your head. βYou donβt say.β
He buries his face in his palms and groans quietly, embarrassed. βHermosa,β he muffles, making your mouth go dry. When his hands drop, his gaze lands at your feet, rising slowly to your legsβhe turns, you think, the color of a berry. Something that bursts red against your fingertips in summer.
βYouβre not wearing pants,β Frankie says plainly, his eyebrows high on his head.
Shit.
You cross your arms over your chest as if thatβll hide your legs, bare beneath the t-shirt you sleep in. You canβt remember what underwear you have on, if itβs a cute pair or a laundry day pair, and pray quietly that he canβt glimpse them from where heβs sitting, though he probably can. Whatβs worse, though, is that you can tell Frankieβs not trying to peek. Heβs looking you in the eyeβrespectful, it seems, even on the verge of a blackout.
βItβs the middle of the night,β you say, trying not to blush. βYβwoke me up.β
Poor, drunk Frankieβs face just folds. Devastated to have bothered youβhe huffs softly, lets his eyes stutter closed, dark lashes shivering on his cheeks. It really isnβt fair, how cute he is like this. Grown, drunk men are idiots. Nuisances, at best. And yet here he isβthis broad mass of a man, solid in his calm, easy wayβmanaging to be both out of his mind and entirely endearing at the same time. Itβs almost annoying, how not annoyed you are to be disturbed from a fit of slumber. Youβre sort of glad.
βMβsorry,β Frankie mumbles, staring at the floor. He lifts one finger and with your breath held you watch it move slowly toward your foot until his fingertip meets your bare ankle. Softly, so softly. You hardly feel it, this small touch, his fragile apology.Β
Itβs like heβs trying to kill you. Itβs like he knows youβve had some stupid crush on him for two years.
βCome on,β you say, as you crouch down to retrieve his forgotten key, then his arm, warm and solid in your grasp. βThink you better get into bed.β
He giggles as he lurches to his feet, thankfully able to stand after you steady him and release the weight of his arm. Cheeks warm, you walk his key across the hall, unlock the door, and step aside for him to go in with a sweep of your hand.
βHow embarrassed should I be tomorrow?β Frankie asks, coming to stand at your side to stare down the tunnel of darkness formed by his entryway.
You shrug. βWilling to bet you wonβt remember this in the morning,β you say, smirk nagging at your lips as you nudge his key back into his hand.
At the contact, he turns, face shadowed by his hat and curls licking playfully beneath the brim, and though you expect him to laugh or smile thereβs not a drop of humor in his expressionβhe looks, you think, disappointed. Like maybe he doesnβt want to forget. Squinting, you tilt your head in the direction of his apartment, but Frankie doesnβt move. He blinks drowsily at you, bottom lip pouting again.
This is probably the most youβve ever spoken in one go.
The closest youβve ever stood.
βPopeβs never gonna leβme live this down,β he mumbles.
You huff a short chuckle under your breath and set one hand on his back, between his shoulder blades, to urge him insideβclearly the manβs never going to go in on his own.Β
βThat one of your broad shouldered friends?β you tease.
Frankie only budges a step closer to the doorway, frowning as he rolls his shoulders, standing up a little straighter as if to make a point. βYes,β he grumbles.
βDonβt worry, honey,β you tease, then drop your hand from his back. βYouβre very broad, too.β
βI feel bad I woke you up,β Frankie says softly.
βItβs not your fault,β you whisper, and you feel it againβthat impulse to hold him, make it better. Rub his shoulders or something, just to help him relax.
βIt is,β Frankie mumbles sorrily.
βDid you mean to wake me up?β
He sighs. βNo.β
βWere you trying to break in, or did you get mixed up?β
βGot mixed up,β he admits quietly.
You catch his gaze and offer him a small smile. βThen I forgive you,β you say. βNo harm done, seriously. Youβre not the worst person to find at my door.β
This seems to settle him, at least a little, because with one final, frowning huff Frankie surrenders his guilt and nods. βOkay,β he murmurs, and time stands briefly still as he moves toward youβleaning in to graze his lips against your cheek, his stubble brushing your skin.Β
You stand, statued by your surprise, unable even to breathe.
βGβnight, nena.β
βGoodnight,β you choke out, grateful that in his state he doesnβt seem to register your shock or the tremble in your voice. If he werenβt drunk, youβre pretty sure that wouldβve snapped you. Youβd have told him right now and right here that youβll take care of him, help him unwind a littleβthat youβve wanted to touch him for two years and it hasnβt gotten any easier, orbiting him without the guts to swing yourself closer to his gravity.
But he is drunk. Three quarters out of his mind, if you had to guess, based on the clumsy muddle of his footsteps as he at last sways into his apartment, shutting the door behind him. Leaving you breathless in the hallway, alone.
In the morning, you wake to a band of sunlight searing through your curtains. Youβve slept through your alarm all the way till ten, and lift your phone to find a text waiting on your lock screen, sent two hours ago.
Think I owe you an apology, neighbor.
Groggy, you frown at the string of digits you donβt recognize until the night comes back to you, piece by piece. Your heart stutters as you sit up in bed, letting your bedsheets pool in your lap as you type out a reply.
How did you get my number?
Also, you got up at 8am?? Are you even alive?
You get a reply only minutes later, while youβre brushing your teeth.
Told the building manager that I was getting your mail and wanted to return it. Little scary how few questions they asked.
You scoff, only to have your phone ding again immediately.
Sure hope Iβm alive. I have a very thoughtful neighbor to thank for getting me home safe.
You spit into the sink, then rinse your mouth, unable to wipe the smile off your face.
Thoughtful, huh?
Pretty, too. Donβt know if Iβve mentioned that yet.
Still feel bad about last night. Let me make it up to you.
No more than six hours later, youβre pulled from whatever TV showβs been rotting your brain all afternoon by a steady knock on your front door. Your skin twinkles with nerves.
Youβre fully clothed this timeβshowered too, thankfullyβand when you open the door Frankie isnβt on his knees. Heβs standing, curls squashed beneath his hat, t-shirt stretched across his chest, in black athletic shorts baring him below the knee, as he holds up two plastic bags that fill the hallway with a smell you know all too well: takeout from the Chinese place you love down the road. When your eyes round at the sight, Frankie grins, letting you glimpse the dimple that winks from his cheek.Β
You see, too, his exhaustion. The navy shadows bruised beneath his glassy eyes. He may be alive, but itβs painfully obvious that he must, beneath that smile, be suffering a brutal hangover. And heβs bringing you foodβtoo generous a gesture, you think, for such a small crime.
βHoped you might like this place,β he says.
βYou really didnβt have toββ you start to say, but Frankie shakes his head before squeezing past you in the doorway to come inside.
βOnly fair,β he insists, and you shut the door while he toes out of his shoes, thoughtful enough not to drag dirt into your apartment as he breezes into your kitchen like heβs done this a hundred times before. Opening the bags, cracking each container, fishing through drawers until he finds your cutlery. Domestic and entirely alien: this man youβve known for two years whoβs never entered your space, making himself at home. Trying to serve you.
Dumbstruck, you watch him, unsure what to say and the longer you do, the more the ache of him seems to radiate. You swear you see him wince when a drawer slams too hard, when he looks up accidentally into the ceiling light. With one hand, you reach out and turn the dimmer switch to soften the lights over his head, and Frankie looks up from the styrofoam containers to catch your eye.Β
The grin drops from his face. βShitβis this too much? Itβs too much, isnβt it?β
Frankie wipes his hands on his thighs as he rounds the kitchen island to stand before you, dark lashes batting worriedly over his freckled cheeks as he lowers his head to meet your eye. βIf you want, I can just leave you with the food. Don't wanna be here if you don't want me to be.β
A soft scoff leaves your lips, the first breath of disbelief disguised as laughter. βFrankie,β you breathe, and his chest puffs at the way you say his name. βYou look like you feel like shit. Your head must be killing you. And you brought me food.β
His jaw ticks, and you wonder if heβs been looking for an excuse to talk to you, too.
βNo more fussing over me,β you say, lifting your hands slowly to rest on his shoulders.Β
Frankie flinches but doesnβt pull away, his warm eyes flickering between yours like heβs trying to unpuzzle you.Β
βLet me help,β you say.
βHermosa,β he murmurs, sounding winded. Desperate. He shakes his head.
With a soft grin you slip your hands down his armsβfirm and hot beneath your palmsβto guide him toward your couch, warmed by a box of sunlight cast through the windows. Frankie sits with a gentle sigh, biceps tensing beneath your grasp, not yet sure what to make of you. You give his arms a light squeeze, flash him a grin you hope might ease his nerves, and sink to the carpet between his knees.
Frankieβs eyes go black.
The air simmers, woozy as the space above molten tarmac in the dead of summer. Itβs a kind of spell, you think. His sharpened breath. Your hands slipping easily over his bare knees. And itβs obvious: the riot of guilt surging behind his lust-blown eyes, his instinct to politely turn you down as you rub his joints softly with your thumbs.
βDonβt have to,β you tell him, careful to hold his eye so heβll see you mean them. βBut Iβd like to, if you want. Could take care of you for a while.β
Frankie lets out a ragged breath, and his eyes slam shut before he drops his head on the back of your couch. βShitβare youβshit.β He grinds the heels of his palms into his eyes, groans quietly, and from the floor you watch the way his whole body shudders as he struggles for air.
βThat a yes or a no, letβs eat Chinese food?β you ask softly, hands frozen on his knees until he answers. βEither is good.β
βShitβyes, thatβs a yes,β Frankie pants, still hiding behind his hands with his head tipped back.
You lift one hand from his knee to reach for him, curling your fingertips around his forearm, pulling it away from his eyes. βMΓrame,β you say, and itβs possible Frankie comes undone right then and thereβchest deflating, arms slumping limp into his lap, head lolling to look down at you in disbelief.
Lips parted, his tongue slips across his bottom lip, sending a thrill through your body and a sudden stutter to your heart. But this isnβt about you; itβs about him, so you squeeze your thighs together as Frankie shifts his hips on the couch and nods shakily.
Oh, this is dangerous. How he already looks ready to fall apart beneath your hands. You might never get enough of it.
Testing the waters, you slide your hands slowly up his thighs just far enough to brush your fingertips to the hem of his shorts, the roped muscles in his legs tensing beneath your caress. βIf you want me to stop, just say, okay?β
Frankie shakes his head, licks his lip again, and your eyes follow the glide of his tongue. βNot gonna want you to stop,β he breathes, as his cheek dimples with the flash of a sheepish grin.
You hum softly, shuffle closer to the couch, encouraging him to spread his legs wider with a press of your hands. βJust sit back, baby,β you murmur.
So he does. Frankie grunts as you patiently knead the mesa of his thighsβthe hills of muscle bound tight beneath golden skin, so hot to the touchβand lower your lips to lay a kiss on his knee, glancing up through your lashes to gauge his reaction.
He rewards you with a needy groan that goes straight to your cunt.
You smile against his skin, let your hands wander, thumbs digging into his thighs as you work loose their knotted web. Humming, your hands slipping beneath the black curtain of his shorts to stray higher as you work, you slide the flat of your tongue up his inner thigh and Frankieβs whole body trembles.
βFuckβnena, shit,β he pants, just before one hand bolts out to cover the crown of your head, stilling your movements.Β
You take your mouth off him and look up, basking in the abyss of his dark eyes and the red of his neck. βWant me to stop?β you ask.
Immediately, Frankieβs head shakes nonono as he gathers your hair in his fist, holding it back from your face. βQue cosa mas linda. So fuckinβ pretty.β
Itβs easy, but you knew it would be, watching his body twitch and melt beneath your ministrations, the caress of your attentive hands. The wet suckle of your lips and tongue rising towards his hips. Slowly, you unwind him. Let him dissolve into your couch, always with some sweet nothing on his lips that could ruin you if you let itβmierda, feels soβso fucking good, perfect hands, holy shit, tan suave.
The taste of his skin is a balm in itself, heady, a little sweat-kissed, addictive. With his shorts shoved high on his hips, you latch at the supple flesh of his inner thigh and suck, drawing a tortured whimper from Frankie as he shivers, his chest rising faster with every breath.
βShitβpor favor, please,β he begs, as the hand in your hair gently scratches your scalp. Itβs so gentle you almost believe he doesnβt know heβs doing itβthat touching you like this, so tenderly, so ruinously, is to Frankie instinct alone.
βSo sweet to me,β you murmur against his thigh, licking the pink mark youβve left on his skin. βSo strong, so warm. Just wanna take care of you, Frankie. Wanna make you feel good.β
βHermosa,β he groans, desperate now, his cock twitching beneath the black of his shorts.
The square of sunlight glows over you both, warming you just as much as his body. Beyond the cracked window you can hear the chirp of birds finding their way to each other, the squeal of distant traffic, the churn of wind through the alley. All of itβall that raucous city noise that used to keep you up all nightβfeels tranquil now. A serene soundtrack whispering below the rasps of Frankieβs pleasure.
βWanted to for a long time,β you tell him, before latching again at the top of his other thigh, marking satin skin with a matching brand. βWanted to touch you so bad.β
Heβs gasping now, lungs desperate for air like heβs been running, and his other hand grabs hold of your shoulder to pull you closer. βWouldβaββ he wheezes, and lets his head drop back against the couch again like itβs too much to look right at you. βWouldβve let you if Iβdβfuckβif Iβd known.β
You hum against his leg, reach both hands high enough to dig your thumbs in the crevice of his hips, and Frankie jolts, hissing a strangled fuck before settling again, more liquid than before.
Higher, your mouth climbs, desperate for more of him. Electric with the feeling of his need, the way his hands keep you near to himβthumb sweet on your shoulder, fingertips drawing little circles on your scalp. Itβs possible youβve never liked pleasuring someone so much, and youβve liked it before. But Frankie responds to your every movement and breath, every change in pressure or place, strung taut as a bow thatβs fighting not to snap.
With a final glance up at Frankie, his head hung back to unveil the gold of his throat, the stubble scattered along his jaw, you nuzzle your nose gently against his crotch and feel his cock throb, hitting your cheek.
βBaby,β he whines, hand tightening in your hair.
βIβve got you,β you coo, and draw your own out of his shorts to hook into the waistband. βGonna take you out now, is that okay?β
βFuckβyesβfucking yes itβs okay,β he begs, and the light sting of his hand pulling your hair tighter paints a smile on your face.Β
Slowly, you peel down his shorts and find no boxers beneath them, only the heavy length of him which bobs up against his t-shirt, thick and swollen and aching. βNo underwear? Frankie,β you tease, and he chuckles hoarsely as you cast his shorts aside.
βLaundry day,β he wheezes, and you click your tongue before scooting forward until your chest presses against the cushions, framed by his legs.
Heβs beautiful like this, destroyed but in the good wayβdragged out of his head for a while by your dutiful hands, your thumbs digging into the meat of his thighs. His cock leaking and twitching every time the warmth of your breath fans over his soft skin.
With one hand, you swipe your thumb over the head of his cock, and the whimper that leaves Frankieβs lips in reply might be the sweetest sound youβve ever heard. You wet your tongue along his length, tasting the earth of him before wrapping your lips around his tip, trading off between suckling and licking.
The hand in your hair locks up suddenly, not moving your head but clamping down hard. You moan softly and he twitches on your tongue. Grows harder, somehow, when a moment ago youβd have thought it impossible.
βAy,β he croaks. βFuckβyour fucking mouth, baby.β
Perhaps this is what emboldens you, makes you sloppyβjust as needy as him. Drool slicking to his length as you bob, drinking in his every moan and babble. Your fist pumping what you canβt take, jaw aching around his girth. Frankie might come apart at the molecules, you think. Evanesce cell by cell, held in the heat of your mouth as you swallow around his length, forcing the head of his cock to the back of your throat.
When you gag, eyes watering, heart a hummingbird in your chest, he makes a desperate whine and his hand tenses on your shoulder.Β
Youβd stay here the rest of the night, if heβd let you, but he doesnβt.
Frankie thighs twitch, breaths coming faster now, shorter. Close.Β
βNecesito sentirte,β he says as he squeezes your shoulder again. βPleaseβshit, gonna come if you donβt stopβfuck, nena, please let me feel you. Wanna feel you so fucking bad. Wanted youβfuckfuckβwanted you the day you moved in.β
Looking up at him through your lashes, you see his hat has tumbled off, leaving the crown of his head a mess of flattened down curls broken up by the occasional stray, and something about how he looks in this moment, fuckedout and gone and desperate, makes you want to stay right where you are.Β
Still, you hollow your cheeks as you ease off him with a wet pop, one hand pumping his thick cock while the other rubs his muscled thigh. You shake your head, bottom lip bitten. βNext time,β you promise, with a smirk rich on your lips. Then youβre on him again, throat open and accepting as he teeters on the edge of falling apart.Β
βMmmph, shitβnena, so good, oh my god,β Frankie gasps, hands back in your hair to hold it out of your way. βGonna make meβfuck, where do Iβwhere do youββ
He doesnβt get the rest out; the moment you slip your hand beneath his balls and sink your lips to the base of his heavy length, taking him to the hilt, Frankie comes with a sudden cry.Β Warmth pumps down your aching throat as he pants, fingers tangled in your hair, and you swallow it all hungrily while you moan.
He whimpers when you lift off his spent cock to look up at him with a satisfied grin. If you thought he looked ruined before, you were wrong. This is what he looks like when youβve wrecked him.Β
βCome here,β he croaks, then with a grunt Frankie yanks you off the floor and onto his lap to envelope you in his arms. You settle on his thighs, try not to swoon at his strength, and when he kisses you it isnβt at all what youβre expectingβthereβs no roar, no taking, not a drop of desperation left in him at all. No, Frankie kisses you wholly, gently, all lithe tongue and sweetness and gratitude, and the longer it goes on the more you both smile, struggling to kiss around laughter and teeth.
When he pulls back, his pupils are still blown but warm too, so warm. His face and beard gilded with late afternoon light. He strokes a thumb across your cheek, then bumps his nose against yours, and you sink against his chest to chase his mouth. Before you can, Frankie's arms lock around your waist; he throws you down onto the couch, pinning you beneath him with a smug little smile.
βThis time I get to taste you, hermosa,β he promises, then seals it with a kiss.

Chapter 12: Satanic Mechanic
The storm triggered rising temps.
ββββ
Monday smacked you awake.
Your digital alarm clock wasnβt worth its price tag when the power flickered, and the blinking numbers of 12:00 seared into your tired retinas, really highlighting the fact that the two fat backup batteries hadnβt been replaced since you lived in a dorm. WhateverβIt wasnβt that late, just late enough to cause a sweat when you were half hanging out of Robinβs car, wrestling with a spare umbrella while the sleeves of your light gray Champion college sweatshirt were darkening from ice-slushed rain. Oh, and because that wasnβt enough, the bottom of your pants waded through a puddle in the auto shopβs parking lot, too.
Stupid cursed town.
Swearing under your breath, you sped towards the employee door, and your expectation of a teasing remark from Carl about your tardiness lapsed into stark bewilderment.
You shook off your umbrella, and tossed it in the only available corner inside the cramped garage. Between the shuttered doors were four motley muscle cars parked back-to-back in various makes and models from yesteryears, bright colors announcing themselves amply. As you neared one, a quick shadow passed over the floor from the lobby door opening, widening the menβs muffled voices inside into clear conversation, and closing. You turned to greet them, but the words caught in your chest.
Eddie crowded you two steps backwards, away from the windows, and tucked you to the concrete wall where privacy could be had.
Heat stung your cheeks at the sight of your boyfriend of thirty-two hourβs careful attention on you. Thoughts on thoughts on thoughts wore themselves like a fever under your thick winter scarf. The same fingers he fiddled with to release his nervous tension were once tracing your spine. Not two days ago the big pink tongue he pressed to his teeth licked the intimacy between your breasts. Frazzled curls stood from the rest of his hair as if your hands had been through them time and time again. Soft concern edged the beautiful brown of his eyes analyzing your expression as he did when your bodies were entwined on his couchβyet, in this moment, he idled a measured distance away, guilt weighing heavily on his posture.
The tender rot of apology weakened his tone, βHey, baby. Iβm sorry about not calling. My powerβs been out since I got home the other night, and I only just got it back this morning. I hope.. I hope thatβs okay.β Reading the quick flit of your eyes falling to his hands and back up, his voice erred remorseful, βI promise I wouldβve called.β
βAw, handsome,β you released. Slotting your fingers into the cup of his palms, you narrowed the space between you in a squishy tennis shoe step. βOur phone lineβs down too, and the powerβs been going off and on. You didnβt think I was mad at you, did you? Even if something came up and you couldnβt get around to it, I wouldβve understood.β The shelf of his shoulders were dotted with rain. βWere you pacing outside?β Meaning: were you so anxious you made yourself nauseous?
βNo, no, this is just from dropping Adrie off. Uhm, I actually.. I know I look nervousβcouldnβt help it once I saw you, ha,β he broke into a shy giggle, already sticking his gaze on his thumbs engulfing your knuckles. βBut uhm, I actually wasnβt worried about you being upset with me. I know you said that when I dropped you off, but Iβm getting better at not, ah, freaking out. Thinking of the worst case scenario, shit like that.β A glance through his lashes, and his lips stretched into a sly grin, rounding his cheeks. βI know weβre good. You and me.β
βYeah, weβre good.β You leaned in, a hint of mischievousness marking your suggestive tone, βMore than good.β
βMore than good,β he repeated in a smiley mumble. βJust didnβt want you gettinβ the impression Iβm some jerk who forgets to call his girl.β
His girl, his girl, his girl.
βIβd never think so poorly of the sweetest man alive.β
Magic happened. There, in his labored swallow, and your fluttery blink. An invisible pull encouraging your bodies closer, sliding your shoulder along the cold wall of your workplace. Seeking heat where it was found against his belly, standing the peach fuzz on your arms at attention from a single brush of your fingertips over his jumpsuit. Want, need; a wish to relieve the burn of pride in your chest, longing to reward him for his progress of keeping a level head when he couldβve spiraled into negative thoughts, yearning to kiss his rosy cheeks aglow with respect. But under the guide of his excessively gentle thumb strokes over your knuckles, a truth was earned. To him, it didnβt feel appropriate to kiss where people could see. Where people could fawn, pry, ask questions, put pressure on something so new. The desire was there. Oh, the desire was there in his gaze dipping to your lips, and staying.
Remembering Saturday, you inhaled sharply. βOh! I didnβt tell you the good news. Robin got a call the other day, andββ
The voices in the lobby grew. One gruffed outββHey, you two?ββand you released each otherβs hands, jolting apart. βWanna get up to date on this shitstorm of a week?β Mr. Moore asked, motioning you both inside with two succinct waves of his clipboard.
A feeble look was exchanged from Eddie to you. The good news would have to wait. Talking would have to wait. Discussing the events from the weekend and all the pretty words he wanted you to hear while his mouth was nurturing the intimate skin beneath your paint-stained crewneck would have to wait.
Following your boss to the circle of employees gathered in front of your desk, Carl and Kevin said hello with raised eyebrows, and Mr. Moore flipped through the sheets on his clipboard, catching you up to speed. βSo, lucky us," he said, tone betraying the luck, "the storm hit Springfield harder than Hawkins, so the annual Classic Car Show was moved down here this weekend." Rolling his hand, he grumbledβguy said the ol' historic buildings downtown would look nice in photosβ"Anyway, all those uppercrust sonsβa are gonna start droppinβ their cars off here for last minute maintenance, or whatever damn hell Roy was sayin'. He sent what parts he had, but we'll have to put in an emergency order, and of course the damn phone is still out."
Mr. Moore targeted you. "We can not," he stressed, "can not accept normal customers this week with all these yuppies comin' in. Unless itβs an emergency, just turn them away, or point 'em towards Thatcher's if they need their tires rotated. Got it?"
So, that explains why Eddie's eyes were welded shut in preparation for the arduous day ahead. The cavity between your hand and his couldβve been filled with a supportive squeeze, maybe a silent assurance in the passing touch, but you tore your gaze from the myriad of grievances wrinkling his expression, and answered your boss, "Got it."
Papers were divvied, sighs were had. With a hard clap of Mr. Mooreβs meaty hands on each of your shoulders, he guaranteed a generous bonus for the extra work, and dismissed the group. You pivoted to collecting mail-in order forms for car parts in case the phones didn't work by the afternoon, and the men went off to the garage where hours were lost to the heavy clank of tools making clockwork.
As the day yawned to noon, Eddieβs ears were ringing. He fetched his Walkman from the car, and blasted music through its shitty foam cups in effort to destroy his hearing with something preferable. Amongst the mayhem of cars rolling out of the service bay and being immediately replaced by another, he curled his fingers in a small wave at his favorite Office Administrator, but you missed it on account of the old man at your counter needing the keys for his β57 Chevrolet Bel Air.
It was a lonely day. A busy day. An aching day where the itch to connect with each other led to melancholy behind every antsy glance through the windows gone unmet.
Your lunch was a limp sandwich eaten between visiting clients, and when Eddie ate, he did it with his back facing you, bent over the work table on the far wall, mixing cleaning solution for an engine block in between sips of Campbell's tomato soup.
In the wait for a muscle car to be exchanged for a truck requiring new brake pads belonging to the mom with two kids in the lobby who needed it for work the next day, Eddie sought you for comfort in the breakroom, but you had walked to the post office after the rain let up, and by the time you got back, you shrugged off his jacket, picked up a stack of clean rags from the storage closet, and used them as an excuse to enter the noisy garage.
Handing off the rags was the closest either of you had been since that morning. Skin contact was bittered by the barrier of his black nitrile gloves, and the interaction was stained by grime sketching the fine lines of his tired face, stress preying on his mood when you pulled away. He needed you.
Miss you, you mouthed.
Miss you, baby, he returned.
Eddie went back to his project. You went back to organizing paperwork. When you checked the phone line, it wasnβt even joy which influenced your forced smile at him through the window. It was just more work when the dial tone answered.
Busy, busy, busy. No respite for conversation, not even between the mechanics. Kevinβs goodbye was offered as the sun hung low in the sky, touching the tree line. Carl knocked on the hood of the car David was working on to get his attention before clocking out for the night. In retrospect, Mr. Moore was the only one who held a proper conversation with Eddie, telling him heβd be in his office for a bit, and heβd stay late to help on the final set of cars.
In the last slants of daylight dragging through tree branches, Eddie focused on the Mustang Mach 1 in front of him. Sun at his back, wiping sweat from his forehead. Wasting his time on small detail work he wasnβt normally paid to do, yet finding some fulfillment in clearing the nooks of leaf debris and polishing excess grease out of the crannies, salivating at the reward at the end of it: a fat check.
Indeed, he was lost in fantasies of how heβd spend his money when a commotion invaded his mind palace, infiltrating the blank air of his cassette clicking to the end of its tape. Eddie pushed the headphones down to his neck, squinting at the windows to the lobby.
His sweetheartβs face was set with bored malice. An air of disregard, but annoyed all the same. Softly narrowed eyes, loose shoulders, crossed legs. Listening to the man who leaned over the heightened front of your receptionist desk with a pointed finger you didnβt care for, and moving your mouth in a rehearsed response. The manβs voice raised, tanned skin gone blotchy. Spitting mad. You flinched at his irate gestures nearing too close for comfort.
Instant. Adrenaline whipped Eddie forward. Muscles flexed into action, constricted, strained, prepared and loaded, roiling with power ripping open the glass door, sending loose papers flying off the black tool cart, including the one with the manβs name he recognizedβ
How could he forget?
Square jaw, springy curls cropped close to his skull. Light brown hair extending to the shitty wisps on his upper lip not any better than a grandma could grow. Ditch the letterman jacket for a suit and tie all he wanted, but there was no mistaking Andy, best friend of Jason and player on Hawkinsβ High basketball team who helped scar Eddie Munsonβs frail reputation after that fateful party he never went to.
Someone he was lucky to dodge at most preschool functions by virtue of his son being nursery-aged.
ββItβll be ready tomorrow,β you finished in uniform curt.
βListen better, bitch, I donβt have time forββ
βHey!β Eddieβs voice packed the tiled room in an authoritative boom with the same fury he entered, commanding the space, possessing the attention as papers floated to the ground behind him. Shifting in his stance, his heart pounded against the strict discipline he leashed himself to, gaining control of his volume for your sake. Quieting to a seethe, he forced out, βYou canβt speak to her that way.β
The subject of his ire slid his snakey gaze to him, deducing his long hair, his cheap cassette player, his jumpsuit. Sizing him up. Assessing him. Casting judgements.
Holding reign with a steady pupil on his target, Andy straightened himself from the desk. His expression wore neutral, hands pushing himself away from the ledge and rolling his shoulders with casual controlled dominance. His ugly red tie slipped against his white poly-cotton button down shirt at the motion, following his slow turn towards someone he thought so lowly of. βFigures youβd be here,β he said, jaw jutted in a lax chew as if he were sucking on a toothpick. βThis the only place thatβd hire a scumbag like you? Hm?β
Fingers stretched and flexed. Veins coursed with heated blood. Sweaty palms were crushed closed.
But it wasnβt Eddie who respondedβnoβit was his little Mouse.
Jumping from your seat, your chair rolled into the rackety filing cabinets behind you, causing a scene with your hand striking the desk. βYou canβt talk to him that way!β
Andy arched an eyebrow at your bark, however, he propped his elbow up in a lazy lean on your binder-clipped manila folders, and held a mutual gaze with the man opposite him. βSweetie,β he patronized, addressing you with a smug crook of his lips aimed to taunt Eddie further, βthis devil worshiper here preys on pretty girls like you. Donβt defend his honor. Heβs got none.β With a cocky tongue click, he licked his bottom lip, reveling in the storm brewing in his doormatβs eyes. There was history in the words he chose. They were crafted for The Freak of Hawkins specifically. The rumors he was known for. The lies. Also, the truths.
Testosterone suggested violence in Eddieβs deliberate refusal to blink, but anger did not darken his cheeks in reveals of red as they oft do, nor did he rear a fist like you wanted to. Hard pumps of aggression strained the tendons in his neck, creating shadows along the thick blue vein leading to his strong jaw, but otherwise much of his reaction was reserved, contained in his stoney expression and hidden beneath his biding posture, waiting. Assessing. For years he endured his name being spat on, and he was only beginning to understand the toll of surrendering.
βYouβre new here, arenβt cha?β Andy spoke to you, but matched the trained stare across from him. βThereβs no need to stand up for this creep. Heβs just some lowlife who begs for table scraps, and still canβt coerce girls into giving him the time of day. Kinda pathetic, donβt ya think?β Tone sneering to a scoff, he added to Eddie, βSβkinda miracle you managed to procreate.β
βShut up!β
This anonymous man regarded you finally. Confusion hung heavy on his brow, curious as to why you were so adamant about protecting someone like him. Then, he dropped his head to the side, enough to see you, and raked his glare over your body, pausing his study on one place in particular.
Your jaw dropped at the audacity, throwing a hand over your stomach on instinct.
Andy involved you with a nod. βThis another chick you knocked up?β
Quickfire, Eddie snatched starchy fabric and knotted silk in his fist, dragging him in by his tie, smothering his wet grunt of surprise with a vice grip on his shirt. They were the same height, but when pitted against steel toe boots, leather loafers lost. Not that he needed the extra inch. A different danger lurked in Eddieβs minimal movements, reeling the other man closer without much effort. Enough intimidation lived in his clenched jaw and quivering muscles to show he was not tucking tail and rolling over.
βHey now,β Andy rasped against the solid threat of knuckles digging into the hollow of his throat, taming him from uttering more. He raised his hands in defense, manicured nails atop soft fingers atop softer palms.
βWatch your mouth,β Eddie enunciated, slow and warning.
Knocked off status by the brave chin challenging him, Andyβs nostrils flared, but his amusement didnβt waver. Under pressure, he wrung the corner of his mouth, lifting his fuzzy upper lip in sly charm while he puzzled out the dynamic between the cool-headed receptionist whoβd gone rabid at a bit of joking, and the blue-collar mechanic who abstained from standing up for himself, but sure as hell did when it involved you.
A smirk dared to stretch across his face.
Andy tucked his eyebrows in, and pleaded, βDonβt tell me you already brought more annoying spawn into this world.β
Visions of red gushed over Eddieβs scarred, dirty knuckles, but the reality was ripped from him before he explored the sweet relief.
Dying to get your hands on a ghost from his past, you competed for the shirt on Andy's back. Grabbing his shoulder, you tore him from your belovedβs grasp, slinging him backwards on stumbling feet. You didnβt let the fucker catch his footing before you rammed your shoulder into him with all your scrappy might. βYou wish you were half as good of a man as he is!β Growled through bared teeth and trembling with malice. βYouβll never compare. You canβt! I feel sorry for everyone youβve ever met.β Snarled from darker depths than witless gossip about a man you adored, slapping your hands hard on his chest, shoving him. βGet out!β Shove. βOut!β Push. "And if you everβever!βbring up Adrie again, I'll fucking.."
His wild eyes searched for Eddie across the room, but you demanded respect.
Harder shove, striking palms where it hurtβmaking him cough. βGet the fuck out!β
His steps faltered, disoriented by the polarity of the quiet bitch behind the desk being the one to catch him off guard, attacking him before he could gather his dignity and stop. fucking. tripping. βYou littleβ!β
βOut!β You cut a fierce line with your arm, pointing at the streets. βLeave! Out! Now!β Shove.
Scrambling, slipping on the wet tile, the metal corner of the door handle bit his squishy palm, pulling a hiss from gritted teeth. Shove. Point. Bark. He yanked the door open with a slew of words youβd only tolerate from Eddie when he said them in the heat of your bodies joining in sweet passion, and you let him know with a guttural grunt, pushing Andy out and into the parking lot where a puddle of ice water awaited his shoes. Squish, squish, squelch. He found his footing on the cracked pavement, huffing and puffing with haughty swipes at his clothes, dusting them off on the way to his Cadillac.
You followed his retreat with two proud middle fingers, shouting, βTake that ugly hood ornament and shove it up your ass!β When his shoulders squared like he was going to turn around, you yelped and scurried inside, locking the door only to hear him spit on the ground. Gravel crunched afterwards, and you assumed the tire screech was him leaving.
Dry gulp. Pounding heart. Aching wrists. Loud blood rushing everywhere. Vision vibrating from the adrenaline pulsing between your ears. You got your bearings, and turned to Eddieβexcept, he wasnβt there. No one was in the lobby. No one was in the garage, either. Down the hall there was a sulking shadow cast across the floor, growing smaller as it sat down.
You went towards the breakroom, passing by Mr. Mooreβs head peeking out of his office. Creases from a notebook marked his cheek. Groggy and confused, he asked, βYou handle whatever that was?β
βI did.β
βWell,β he shrugged. βGood on ya.β He shrank back into the dark room, returning to his nap.
Approaching the round table with caution, you picked the plastic chair next to Eddie and sat gingerly, noiselessly. Hands folded, upper body turned, waiting for him to speak first. And when he didnβt, you prodded. βAre you okay?β
Eddie unlocked his twined thumbs, and dropped a heavy hand on your knee, patting you. βYeah, Iβm okay, baby,β he replied softly. He didnβt pull his gaze from the wall, blinking only when he brought himself out of his ruminations to pat you again. Blank expression, hollow. Legs spread wide, ruling the space while your thighs were tucked tight together, same as any day youβd share lunch while he brainstormed a campaign idea, writing the story in his head and forgetting to hold a conversation with you. But his silence separated you. You needed more from him.
βDo you want a hug?β you asked.
Pat, pat. βNah, Iβm good, I promise,β he said with a bit more sureness lifting his tone.
Staring holes into the side of your boyfriend's face for far longer than it took to lose faith in telepathy, you swallowed through the scratchy rasp taken hold of your throat after yelling at a customer, and guided him, βCan I have a hug?β
βOh shit, right, sorry!β The cluelessness jumped off of him as he sat up and wrapped his arms around you, scooping you to his chest. Your cheek picked up a healthy amount of dirt when sliding past his, and his headphones smoothed most of his hair from entering your mouth, but as sweaty and filthy the hug was, his crushing hold on you was everything a platonic coworker could ask for after being verbally harassed. A forearm behind the shoulder blades, a kind splay of fingers on the mid-back. Polite. βIβm sorry he yelled at you.β
Arms trapped against his chest, you bunched the collar of his coveralls in your fists, and he hummed into the comfort of your reciprocation, no matter how covert while your boss was one door down.
βSβokay,β you whispered. Nudging towards his ear, you smeared the sweat at his hairline onto your temple in a blessing. βMy first job was at a McDonaldβs drive thru. I was fourteen. Iβm used to men in business suits yelling at me.β Caught between a sympathy snort and cringe, he offered another apology and pulled his face away.
His eyes and smile went soft, losing their strength from a different emotion trickling in. βShould I have decked that guy? Did you want me to do that? Did you want me to stand up for you, and knock βim out?β
βAnd risk you getting an assault charge on your name? Uh, no. Iβm more than capable of standing up to a guy who wonβt hit back because Iβm a woman.β
Nodding against his ego, he took a moment to mull it over, and dropped into a serious tone, βI donβt want it to seem like I was letting him walk all over me, either. Not that long ago I wouldβve freezed up. Probably wouldβve sat there, taken it, and fixed his car while he watched. Then I wouldβve gone home and cried about it because Iβd be so fucking mad at myself for not dislocating his jaw. But,β he paused to run his tongue over the back of his teeth, settling the anger he harbored after the years of unapologetic abuse he tolerated.
He exhaled in a two-count, inhaled on three.
Collecting himself, sincerity replaced the animosity. βBut since me and you have started hanging out, I can see how wrong he is, and it justβsortaβdoesnβt bother me anymore, yβknow? Like, I donβt even have to think about it, I know Iβm not those things he said.β He strummed his thumb over your shoulder, soothing the lingering fight shivering through your body, invoking care in his words to calm your racing heart, and his. βI kinda lost it when he brought you and Adrie into it, and Iβm glad you intervened when you did, before I did something I regretted, but Iβm sorry for what he said. Or what he was, ah, implying about you..β
βWasnβt really an insult, anyway.β
βHm?β
βYou know, as if itβd be a bad thing to beβuh, uh..β Your stomach clenched from the impact of his gaze falling to it. The sentence would never be finished, and it didnβt need to be. Your mindless chatter proved your subconscious thoughts loud and clear. It wouldnβt be an insult to be pregnant with your child.
Panic prickled your nervous system hummingbird fast. Slews of mortification reached your eyes, urging him not to draw conclusions based on something you blurted on the spot, becauseβbecauseβjustβJesus Christ, man, please move on.
Shifting topics with more tact than his faintly stuttered exhale would suggest, he shook the stiffness from his posture by clearing his throat, and narrowed his eyes in a curious squint. Dropping his head to you, his fingers skimmed the clasp of your bra band through your sweater, and one of his anxieties was stroked into the relationship with a pivotal question, βCan you tell me, are there cameras in here?β
Without looking, you thought of the layout. βNo, thereβs just the two outside. One facing the entrance, the other facing the intersection. Whyβumph?β He stole the concern from your lips.
Crashing mouth on mouth, he moaned at the relief of having you after a shitty day, and you doubled his vigor, dragging him in by his clothes until it hurt. Spine bent, hips to hard plastic, lips smashed against teeth, joints leading to your strained fingertips twisted above his embroidered name tag. You kissed him until it ached, until he was sated, until lungs burned for breath. It was the best change of subject, because when Eddie flirted his bottom lip along yours after you broke for air and his spit mixed with tangy salt on your tongue and gritty earth between your teeth, you wondered if the primal emotion steeped in his heavy-lidded eyes was the result of the same phrase repeating in his head as yours. Knocked up.
βDo you think itβs okay if we kiss like this? As long as weβre alone?β
βYeah,β you guessed. βI think itβs okay if weβre alone. Not while customers are out there, or in front of the guys. We should be good, if thatβs what you want.β
βYeah,β he repeated. βIβd like that.β
You accepted his forehead against yours, feeling him sag with a tired groan. Exhausted from responsibilities, emotionally drained and succumbing to the crook of your neck, depending on you to rejuvenate him with tiny, smiley pecks at the top of his ear. Poor man.
As usual, you were the bearer of his weight, trusted to hold him up and be the pillar of strength as his arms fell to your hips, hands at the waistband of your jeans, ambitions decidedly pious as his fingertips explored the ridge of a stretchmark on your lower back. βEd?β You tucked some loving caresses through the hair at the base of his nape, working circles into his oily roots. βI never got to tell you my good news.β
βOh!β He piped up, coming into focus, face alight with excitement from your giggle.
βBobbie got the call, and our apartment is ready!β
There was hardly a predictability to how Eddie would react to things. Sometimes sharing stories about your past in New York would earn his disinterest; sometimes he was eager to listen. Talking about the future was the same. Sometimes his gaze drifted faraway when you brought up the potential of your favorite Chinese restaurant closing before you could have the #4 special again, and sometimes he needled you about learning to drive before he finds you and your bike crumpled in a ditch on the side of the road one of these days.
But worry not, the sunshine grin breaking across his lips warmed you in all the right places.
βNo shit?β he released in a breathless, excited laugh. βNo more living with the Buckleyβs, huh?β
βMhm! No more competition while solving the Wheel of Fortune, but I think Iβll live. Especially if it means having my own bathroom.β
βNice, nice, nice. And, uh,β he broke off to trace a pattern on your pants, βAnd, if I may ask because Iβm an upstanding gentleman who wants to lend his strength without the expectation of reward, when exactly do you move in?β
βThis weekend.β
βOh,β he flattened. Voice monotoneβOh. Also known as βfuckβ or βdamn.β βCorroded Coffin has a gig in Indy this weekend. Drive there Saturday morning, come back Sunday around 3, maybe 4AM, if I rush.β He started mumbling to himself, βBut, maybeβif Wayne can watch Adrie on Sunday, I could stillβ Or if she stays where I can see her and doesnβt get in the way, she can come, and Iβll help bring in big furniture, some heavy boxes. Set up your bed for you, the TV, uh, does the place come with a fridge? I could do that too. Make sure all your outlets work. Could hang some stuff up for you, help you decorate.β You sighed in a way where heβd get the hint to shut up.
He frowned. βWhat?β
βYou donβt need to help us, weβve got it figured out, but I was trying to tell you the news this morning becauseββ Quick high-pitched beeps from a Buick made your point. Eddie swiveled around to peek down the hall at Robinβs car parked out front, headlights beaming through the windows. You enunciated for effect, βBecause weβre going furniture shopping and packing every night this week, so Iβve gotta clock out early, before the stores close.β
A heavy dose of disappointment jaded his hand falling limp over your thigh. βSo, not only do we not get to see each other during work this week because Iβm buried under cars owned by dickheads who should take pride in servicing their own vehicles, but you canβt stay late, either?β he summarized to your apologetic smile.
βIβm sorry,β you began, grazing your knuckle along the powdery soot lining his jaw like stubble. Incited by more honks, you picked up the pace, and fit his face to your palms, thumbing his cheeks; collecting him, lifting his chin, guiding him to your lips.
Two hums converged, harmonizing. His handsome nose mashed against yours in order to steal kiss after kiss as two people should when huddled in a private room away from their boss. Sympathetic to his cause, you resisted the urgency of the ticking clock, and worked your hips into his hold, swaying all the closer, consuming the dearness of his prayer when your fully clothed body stood between his legs, melting his stress away.
βShould get going,β you mumbled, brushing through his hair with each subsequent glide of his desperate tongue making it harder to leave.
Instead of a honk, a car door shut, and you pictured Robin stalking up to the door with her lips rolled in, gesturing animatedly at her watch.
Your muscles posed to take a step away from Eddie, but he climbed his hands to your waist, refusing to let go. βWait! Wait!β
βWhat? What?β you mimicked.
βWe didnβt get to talk about what happened over the weekend,β he insisted, and you took pity on him, raising your brows with a caveat grin telling him he should make this quick. βI wanted to say that our date was perfect. Like, amazingly perfect. Not just the, ah, obvious part, but watching movies and making dinner together was special to me. As dumb as it sounds, even washing dishes together was special to me.β
The bare circles on his cheeks where your thumbs wiped the dirt away plumped up from his grin.
βAnd then the way you took care of Adrie,β fondness rushed in, eclipsing the fatigue in his voice, βbaby, youβre beyond perfect for that. I couldnβt have asked for anything better. You got her to stop crying when I couldnβtβYes, I can hear her knockingβand you did everything just so exactly right, and Iβm so fucking grateful for you, and, wait! Before you go,β he begged you, laughing into another lip-smack on your forehead. You backed away until he stood up, face still wedged between your palms, coerced into following you into the hallway so your best friend didnβt think youβd gone missing without a trace. βIβll try not to do the whole crying-my-eyes-out and then spilling-my-guts-to-you thing every time weβre together.. No promises, though.β
Almost to the door, you continued to walk backwards, advancing him until the last second when you had to let go. You teased him, βIf it becomes a habit, Iβll put ice cream on the grocery list, and we can sob it out together at my place like real friends do. Sound good?β Umbrella, purse, chapstickβcheck. βSee you tomorrow, handsome,β you said on your way out. Eddie filled the doorframe, casting a sharp eye around the parking lot while returning your adoring goodbye.
He curled his fingers in a guilty wave at Robin.
She, with her keen nose, bent to sniff at you, and commented overly loudly, βYour sweatshirt smells like Camels.β
ββββ
Tuesday was a strong, steady build in pressure.
Privacy could be had in the public space between buildings where cars passed on either side, puttering at their leisurely pace before slowing to a stop when the intersection lights flipped red. You bounded up to Eddie carrying two waxed paper cups filled with morning energy, beaming brighter than the dawning rays glancing off the brick alleyway. βHey! Got you a little somethinβ.β That, along with the rocks crunching under your shoes, was his only warning before you were forcing a drink into his hand, and slipping your other arm inside his unzipped jacket, squeezing his middle.
He rocked on his footing and laughed, collecting your head to his chest with a firm palm behind your neck. Your bodies swayed together, ear pressed to the source of his voice; his choppy cadence drawn tight from the sudden rise in eagerness to tuck his chin and mash kisses atop your hair. βHey, sweetheart,β he breathed, tinted with a stutter from surprise. βYou got me coffee?β Spinning it in his hand, he read the shopβs logo stamped onto the cardboard sleeve and put the lid to his nose, smelling the steam piping through the hole. βMmm, a latte. You didnβt have to go and get me something special like that.β
βI wanted to since I was too busy to call you last night,β you apologized. βThought you could use the extra caffeine, too.β
Bathed in the teasing glow of sun, you lifted your cheek from the thick scent of burnt tobacco baked into his coveralls, and swam to the heady surface of smoke enriching the crisp air. Raising your nose higher, though, there wasnβt a cigarette hanging from his mouth.
Fresh mint followed the thin fog escaping his lips in a visible puff of breath.
Eddie kissed you deep. Wrigleyβs Spearmint coated the flavor on his tongue as he dragged it over your bottom lip and across your teeth. The recent ad campaign targeting smokers sponsored his confident lick into your mouth. Lazy and casual, relaxing his arm around your shoulders. Hot coffees tucked to his chest. Pocket below his name tag stuffed with the red and white packaging of foil sticks next to his lighter and Camels, finishing up his morning habit with a clean taste now that he gained certain privileges at work.
βCould definitely do with a pick-me-up from my girl,β he mushed en route to your cheek, pulling away to take the first sip of his coffee and ending with a satisfied mmm.
You vied for his approval. βYeah?β
βYeah.β Another sip, another warm ahh fanning your cheeks. His one-track mind instilled bravery in his hand sliding down from your shoulders to the roundness of your ass, groping your hips flush against the metallic clink of the button snaps closing his jumpsuit, bringing you to him.
Regarding you down the length of his nose, he dipped his smokerβs rasp into something rougher, deeper, resonating from the courage in his chest, βYβknow, I used to worry about making things weird at work if I made a move on you and it wasnβt appreciatedββ
βOh?β you interrupted, pointing above you. βDo you.. Do you not see the flashing sign over my head begging you to ask me out?β
βHush,β he reprimanded you with a wolfish spank over your back pocket. βWhat Iβm saying is that Iβm startinβ to see the perks of workinβ together.β He flicked his eyes up to survey the end of the alley, minding the crawl of traffic passing by. Any Hawkins citizen could turn their head and see you two together; fronts touching in the indecent way coworkers shouldnβt. Stomachs brushing in the intimate way acquaintances wouldnβt. Faces nearing, warmth radiating from his full lips holding steady above your silent plea in the eager way friends might not. Hands taking what they wantβsmooth and strong alike, improper filthβgrabbing in the coarse way sweethearts do.
Eddieβs fingers followed the crease at the bottom of your ass cheek, cupping himself a handful, and drawing you into his nicotine and menthol kiss. You wrung a fistful of the back of his coveralls, using him for weak-kneed stability, yanking until fabric strained against the snap clasps, making gaps to where his shirt showed underneath.
Huddled, coffee cups captured in the embrace, your bodies buzzed drunk on indulgence.Β
In the echoey distance, a shutter door rolled open. βPerks gotta wait, Iβm afraid,β you moped, falling short of getting swept into the intoxicating trap throbbing between your thighs when he groaned at the heavy chain rattling, locking one door into place before moving onto the next.
He shook his head, sighing in genuine annoyance at the few minutes you had alone, now over. βGuess weβll have to sneak around if we want to see each other this week.β
βYeah?β you drew out, thick and sweet like honey, walking your fingers up his chest. βNeed me that badly?β you questioned, mawkish and innocent. βNeed me to beat up your bullies, and kiss you better?β
Playful spite painted his grin. βIs that too much to ask for? Theyβre workinβ me to the bone here, babe. I think I deserve a little pick-me-up after replacing a heater core.β
The second service door creaked and clanked at the top of its slot.
βA little pick-me-up, huh?β you repeated, earning a nose-scrunched amusement at the quick peck you offered him. βLike that?β
βJust like that,β he confirmed, already against your mouth for more.
Just like thatβ
Even footfalls of heavy boots thudded closer.
Giddy kicks of excitement electrified your nerves. The thrill of sneaking around gripped, bound, and knotted your stomach. Eddie, intending to steal one last treat before his fingers and wrists were fatigued from labor, rocked you forward with his strong palm, but he too was spurred by the endorphin rush, hauling your hips in with too much enthusiasm and causing you to discover more than heβd meant to.
Swiftly separating, backs to scratchy brick, the third shutter door dislodged from the dusty ground and began its clattery ascent. Cool, calm, casual. Racing-hearted coworkers.
Hello, Mr. Moore. Fine day, isnβt it? Dotted cloudy sky with plenty of sun, no rain. Yes, Iβll get started on a pot of coffee in just a minute.
Your boss walked away.
You looked at your boyfriend. Waxy to-go cup poised at his puckered lips, eyes nearly closed to mirthful little crescents and twinkling from your collective shared secrets which grew exponentially. Plunging thoughts, yet you kept your gaze high, deciphering his devilish features instead of analyzing the outline below the waistband of his dark gray coveralls leading to his hand was in his pocket, picturing Eddieβs cock in his fist before noon.
Rock hard only from kissing.
He mocked you lightlyβteacherβs pet, people pleaserβ βBetter get goinβ, sweetheart.β
Your features arched to the tune of sarcasm on your tongue, asking him a question he refused to answer with anything but a smirk, βWhy? Need some alone time?β
ββββ
Wednesday ripened like boozy fruit.
Thick winter layers were shed for lightweight counterparts; canvas jackets shucked after a cup of coffee, breaking free from the hug of warmth before it riled a worse sweat than the impulses caused.
Just like thatβ
Treats throughout the day in between vintage cars and pretentious clients. Exploring the perks of a stolen peck in the breakroom after Kevin shuffled out. The favor of a massage along the knotted muscles between his shoulder blades when crouched behind an Impala, where you were changing the trash liners at the workbench, and he was counting lug nuts. Silly benefits like you thanking him in a kiss to your palm, blown from behind your desk after he delivered a stack of invoices, to which he mimed catching it and pressing it to his cheek, walking backwards into the garage in a lazy stride, embracing his dopey grin. βCorny,β he said that time. βShh, baby,β he said another, when his wandering hand landed in a squeeze on your ass, and your squeal of delight peaked higher than he was comfortable with in the hallway outside your bossβ office, spiking hues of cassis wine across his nose.
Innocent snacks. Quick low-risk indulgences.
Thatβs how it started, anyway.
βPsst,β you got Eddieβs attention as he strolled past the storage closet on his way to the breakroom for his Chef Boyardee lunch. His elbow jutted a big angle from stretching his tricep, looking like Rosie the Riveter in his royal blue coveralls and red bandana on his head.
When his expression remained exceptionally oblivious upon seeing you peeking out of the narrow room housing dusty metal shelves lined with car parts, you snagged him by his grimey sleeve and dragged him inside. With two people crowding the shoebox shaped space, running into the cardboard boxes of windshield wipers youβd yet to put away was inevitable, as was Eddie ducking around the pull string for the single lightbulb dangling from the ceiling. Your eyes itched and your throat scratched, but with everyone's breaks being staggered to ensure there was someone out in the bay and someone available to answer customerβs questions at all times, your loneliness was agonizing, and his sly smile accentuating his dimple knew it.
βYeah, sweet stuff?β Already, the lure. The bait of his tone. Dry rasp in his overused voice, hoarse from yelling over the grind of a powertools.
The heavy door crept closed behind him, ajar enough to catch shadows. You backed to the furthest wall. He trailed, brushing his stained fingertips on his hips to rid them of excess motor oil before touching his girl.
But, before he could lift your chin in an overdue kiss, you stopped him dead in his tracks. βThought you could use a pick-me-up,β you said, breathy and thin, too high-pitched and fluttery to be sultry. Butterflies had been building in your belly since you first had this idea at your desk, erupting into swarmy impatience as the timing never worked out and you couldnβt get him alone without one of the guys noticing, or a customer leaning over to ding the bell next to your pen cup, breaking you from your daydream.
Eddie was still a step away, raising his arm from his side, when a beautiful sight swallowed his pupils whole.
A shiver grasped your middle.
Sweat met cool air, erupting goosebumps along your ribs, tightening your nipples to stiff peaks. The hem of your thin sweater stayed gathered at the top of your chest, hands splayed to keep it in place, helping frame the generic black bra. You didnβt enter the day prepared to show off your lamest lingerie, but Eddieβs stare was glued to the plain dull shine of polyester stretched over cups covering the full range of your goods as if they were worthy of the French term usually relegated to something not designed for comfort.
He wiped his hands more energetically on his chest.
No pet names, no clever remarks crafted to make you melt. No swoony lines, no verbal compliments from his handsome mouth hung on a dumbfounded gape. No thoughts, wit, or brainpower. Everything vanished the moment you took his wrist, and smoothed his palm to your breast.
Suave, he was not. Eddie giggled like a teenagerβelated, ecstatic to be touching a pair of boobs as if it were his first time. You pitied him in a chastising snort, hopelessly fallen for his big grin, and helped his other hand. Large palm, calluses dragging on the fabric. Cups too thick and opaque to ogle what was beneath. But he was mesmerized all the same. He fitted the stretch of his fingers across that which you arched into his hold, and ran his thumb over the softness. His knuckles and tendons flexed as he did so, moving under the pressure of your heavy suggestion, sliding his hand down so he cradled the bottom and lifted, giving him more area to exploreβ
Your inhale came sharp and sweet.
Eddie throbbed.
He checked your reaction, repeated the motion. Found the hard bud under the layer, and trapped it between the edge of his thumb, rocking it to the long side of his index finger. Your body leaned into the feeling, eyebrows drawn, bottom lip pushed out and freshly licked. He learned to do it again. Again. More. Harder. Shimmery praise collected in the corners of your eager eyes, heavy lids and batting lashes forced open to watch the confidence in his movements grow. Faster rubs, heavier pets. Kneading what you gave him. Drawing quick, simple breaths from your pretty mouth as he concentrated on circling his thumbpad around the point of pleasure, using his nail to skim over it, dragging a lurch from your core.
βEddie.β His name tipped into a moan hummed through your nose.
The stuffy room heightened your fluster. Eddie burned. Furnace body, ember hands stoking your fire. Ends of his bangs coming to a damp point above his brows. Dewy skin beneath his diligent strokes over the polyester cups. The squish. The yearn. The need for cold metal shelves to be pressed into your backside, positioning himself against your front.
βLike it when I do that, baby?β he asked, deep and husky for no other reason than to hear your voice pitch when he pinched your nipples, elusive as they were from the slippery fabric.
You pushed your sweater higher, flaunting your arms closer. The amount of gratification coming from his thumbing was small, but the fun of doing it in a closet while on the clock had you oversensitive. Anticipation swelled your fat tongue, slurring your question with girlish flirt, βSβit a good pick-me-up? Dβyou feel better?β you asked for no other reason than to feel him grow hard against your hip.
Cement walls deadened outside interference, isolating his hammering heart in its loudest beats, and projecting the low sound stuck in the back of his throat. His deep rumble of, βYeah, feelinβ better,β was spoken in the hollow between your chests, stomachs meeting during your feathery inhales opposite his resolute ones filling the planes of his pecs with renewed strength to get through the day.
Eddieβs exhaustion illustrated itself in the bags under his eyes; intense wells of purple beneath deep wrinkles you couldnβt begin to solve for him. However, you could stretch up, brush your lips over his, and make the eager noises which fed his ego.
βMakinβ you feel good?β he asked, grounding his pleasure in what he could do for you.
βSo good, handsome.β
βLove it when you call me handsome.β
βYeah?β
He collapsed into you, βYeah.β
Sly now, your grin broke the kiss. βYou still remember how to unhook a bra, handsome? Or has it been too long?β No surpriseβhe nipped at the bottom lip he adored so much, shutting you up.
His big, tired body lost its strength from cranking tools all morning, but he still managed to impress you with his firm determination laying against your belly, pulsing eager. He circumvented your taunt with fingertips diving to the bottom of the cups and pushing up, drawing tension on the underwire, tightening the band around your ribs. It teetered on the edge of a great reveal, nipples harder than him between your legs. You begged for the release, for your bra to finally crest the whole, and bounce what you had into his waiting palms, where his thumb and index were shaped to tweak another hot moan into his mouthβfull lips mashed gently to your desperate whineβunapologetic confidence staring you down. Doing it all with a smile.
The door opened with Carlβs question, βYou get those u-joints for me?β
Violent strikes of shame-induced panic shocked you both into action before thinking.
Thank God you still had a hold on your sweater to yank it down in sync with Eddieβs side-step, the dumbass, exposing you because his priorities laid in fleeing. Well, at least he was a redeemable dumbass who used his quick wit Dungeon Master skills to remain with his back turned towards the door, perusing the top shelf for a box of universal joints.
You acted your part. βOh! Uh, I couldnβt reach them, so I got Eddie to help,β you overexplained, pointing at your taller platonic friend who definitely wasnβt the reason your clothes bunched weirdly over your chest.
βHm?β Carl looked up from his invoices, just noticing Eddie. βCouldβya get me some washers too?β
βYep,β you answered for him, hearing the box slide along with the rattle of the steel washers, taking them and handing them off to Carl who grunted out a thank you, double checking his paperwork as he walked away, none the wiser as to why your gaze was sealed on the floor.
Mouth dried of all fluid, yet body drenched in the same embarrassment which reddened your coworkerβs face darker than his bandana, you gulped past your heart lodged in your throat, and idled next to Eddie, pretending to tidy up a container of gloves. Really, you straightened out your bra instead, door wide open behind you.
It wasnβt against the rules to date your colleague, but he was uncomfortable with other people knowing about your relationship. Perhaps it was the prying, the questions, the pressure which bothered him most. Or the loss of privacy. All eyes on the single dad who hadnβt been in a serious relationship since a brief stint out of high school, and finding someone now, for him, The Freak of Hawkins, was such a significant event theyβd probably congratulate him, therefore crushing the dignity he worked hard to assemble from the crumbs he was left with.
He had more to care about. More to lose. Always, you followed your boyfriendβs lead when it came to his reputation.
βSo..β
βS-So,β he answered. βUhm..β
βShould we.. Do you want to keep doing this?β you hesitated, trying to figure him out. Eddie knew what you were asking, though. It strained against the last set of buttons to his coveralls. The edge with no relief. Sneaking around, copping feels in dusty closets, stealing kisses behind walls, never having enough time to start, nor end something worthwhile to ease the aches left behind. βMaybe we should relax at work until we have a real weekend to ourselves again?β
βFuck no.β His blunt response raised your eyebrows. βCβmon, babe,β he scoffed, locking onto you with his sloppy puppy grin and playful nudge on your arm. βThis work week already fucking sucks, and youβre the only good I get.β
Checking over his shoulder, he sidled closer to you, and lowered his voice, βYesterday I got to kiss you, and then go home to my kid who ate her chicken and broccoli without a single complaint.β He cut his hands to his chest, palms up, bouncing them in a shrug. βI donβt see any downsides here.β Aside from the prominent downside in your periphery, you agreed. βWeβre just havinβ fun, right? Our weekendβs gonna come. These, uh, close encounters of the romantic kind are just to hold us over until then, thatβs all.β
Just having fun. Just like that. Perks, pick-me-ups. No downsides here.
After giving him a long look, you nodded. These were just treats to get you both through the tough week. You could resist the temptation of taking it too far, keeping it casual. He could dial it back, and remain level headed about kissing, and a little over the clothes touching. No big deal.
Casual. Dialed back.
Easy.

Thursday was hot under the collar.
Coffee sputtered fat drops into the glass carafe, adding steam to the small breakroom, and filling it with the wake-up scent. Sat in a creaky plastic chair was a man sapped of energy, and behind him was his dearest flame. On the clock, technically, but arriving before other employees dared.
βHad to stay late last night to finish a car on time,β he grumbled to you, neck muscles flexing under your fingertips as he lolled his head side to side. βWish you didnβt have to leave so early.β
You pulled his hair off his shoulders, and stroked your thumbs from his nape to the underside of his jaw in long sweeps over the tense slope, down, massaging the base where his collar began. βI know, baby,β you gentled, βme too, but we found a couch last night, and made sure it was the perfect size and comfort level for cuddling during a movie marathon.β His groan scratched vibrations along the rub, tugging your heartstrings.
βThat sounds so good right now.β
Nothing made Eddie feel further away than the graywash walls surrounding you; lights too bright, vending machines droning too loud, stale odor of motor oil stinking too harshly of motor oil. Too everythingβgrating. His solid shoulders bowed weak from unyielding tasks. Body tired, brain stuck in problem-solving mode, watching cranky customers like a hawk, never getting a break once he got home; making food, washing dishes, cleaning spills, changing laundry, vacuuming dirt, providing entertainment, being the source of a thousand answers, drying tears, saying heβs sorry he canβt find the missing Barbie brush, worrying about everything, forgetting nothing, trying his best, falling short, perceiving himself as inadequate, disregarding himself as worthy of nothing more. Never getting the validation he craved after a long day. Poor man.
You leaned down and loosened the only button on his pinstripe coveralls, below his throat. Slipped the sky blue plastic from its cotton vice, threaded it through the hole in a languid beat, and kept things slow. You crawled your fingers to the sturdy metal zipperβdull goldβand ground the teeth three stretches down his chest, parting the halves to expose his black tee underneath. Your nails scratched the union of his pecs on the way to pull the collar off his neck, earning a comforting sound of approval from him, inspiring your own hum tickling your lips.
Switching from your thumbs to your knuckles, you dipped under his coveralls, and prodded the chain of stiffness on either side of his spine. Cheap poly-cotton grazed your skin. MmmβHis breath hitched, cheeks puffing at the sore knot you encountered, exhaling hard through the pain of your digging. It was so reminiscent of your second date when you were straddling him on his shit replacement for a bed not fit for a grown man, it hurt. You worshiped him between the bonesβa small relief you wished to give him, delaying the restless ache growing more visceral every day you didnβt get to hold him for hours. Eddie reciprocated the yearn. He rested his head on your belly, washed curls swaying from his crown, frizzy strands clinging to the static on your blouse; leaning backwards so the meat between his neck and shoulder rolled under your handiwork. Closed eyes, fanning lashes. Mellow sounds of contentment sung through his nose. Beautiful man.
βFeeling better?β you asked, squeezing his traps in hard pinches, collecting his woes and turning them into sighs.
Mhmm, he said.
Perfect, you thought.
Better meant thereβs still room for improvement.
In a fluid motion, you bent at the hips, and he leaned his head to the side, accommodating your arms draping around his front. The angle pressed your ass to the wall in an audible glide of your skirt shifting against it. Eddie, so soft and romantic, hiked his shoulders up and beamed hard at the ceiling, squeezing his eyes shut thinking his sweetheart was hugging him. However, you slipped your hands under his uniform, and his sunshine grin faltered.
His pulse quickened at your descent.
βWhatcha doinβ, baby?β he asked, tone floating the river of curiosity and suspicion.
You doled kisses where his bangs parted, down to his temple, his eyebrow, sunk in the hollow of his cheek between the hardness of his teeth. You traveled the smooth grain on his jawβwarm notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla in your lungsβand wandered over his earlobe, nosing through his long hair to the place you wanted. Lips on sensitive skin. Dangerous.
His throat bobbed at the top of a heartbeat, and his chest sank only to fill with a strong breath. The thin fabric of his tee stretched over the firm muscle laying dormant under a sleek layer of fat. Wheat shafts of hair mid valley brushed against the motion of your hands opening his coveralls further, fingerpads skimming his pebbled nipples; golden zipper sneaking to the top of his stomach, enough room for you to flatten your palms to his pecs, and unwind him. Like a good partner, you massaged the width where you laid your head to rest during a long hug, where you set your ear to listen to the rhythmic thump, where the source of his voice ignited when you asked him a question; thumbs joining to stroke the worthy center.
His black tee framed by the baby blue stripes paved a dark arrow to the kick of his hips tilting upwards as he slouched in the chair.
Excessive flattery laced your tease, βAre you hard?β
ββCourse Iβm hard,β he pointed out the obvious. βYouβre touching me.β
Not that the swollen length rising from his lap could be anything else, but knowing you caused such a standing ovation after a little bit of back rubbing ran you a mighty temperature.
Wicked thoughts pooled at the bottom of your stomach. The stiff outline influenced your thighs rubbing together, rallying hunger in your eyes. You angled your head, and shifted your focus to the goosebumps surfacing from your sigh fanning the shell of his ear.
Eddieβs neck invigorated your appetite.
You opened your mouth wide and grazed the sharp edge of your teeth over the vulnerable column thrumming with life. His body went rigidββOhββthen slack in increments. Again, you scraped lightly over the slope of warmed muscle appreciated by you as a result of the physical price he paid to assume the jobs of many, taking on the responsibility of Carlβs workload to ensure he made it to his sonβs wrestling practice on time. Your man deserved the world; he deserved your lips forming a ring over his pulse, he deserved his heartbeat darting against your tongue, he deserved to melt under your attention. Your man deserved to have his little groan stolen when he remembered your mouthβs talent.
Despite the animal way you started, you eased him into the pressure, sucking down on his skin until your open bite filled with delicate flesh. A liquid glottal click preceded the faintest catch in his vocal chords. He secured a palm around your shoulder, heaviness drawing your arm forward, enticing your hand to rove down his chest. Shirt wrinkles collected around your fingertips as you reached the roundness of his stomach, and dipped below his coveralls. The change in environment was instant. Humid, sticky pheromones clung to your skin. Damp body heat trapped tacky warmth to your middle finger dipped to his navel while your knuckles prowled beneath his jumpsuit in visible arches. Edging closer, closer. Nearly there.
You arched your wrist to put strain on the zipper, dragging it with you, almost within reach of what he earned.
Eddieβs hand covered your own. βWe shouldnβt, ah,β he cleared his throat, βshouldnβt start something we canβt finish,β he asserted, caught between the confliction crossing his face, and the gravelly tug in his vocal chords. He hooked his forefinger under your pinky and lifted your hand to the outside of his coveralls, where the halves parted below his sternum. βWith our luck, someoneβll walk in on us.β
Yesterdayβs incident in the closet brought fresh memories to his reddened ears; blotching renewed embarrassment along the pinkish skin where your spit dried. You took this into consideration when opposing, βDoubt anyone would walk in on us in the next thirty seconds.β
Heβd deflect your implication with a glare if his eyes werenβt closed in disgust at his own actions.
βJust saying,β you sang, words becoming muffled on the stretch of neck he presented to you with a cant of his head, βwe could have fun before anyone shows up.β
Teetering an inappropriate boundary neither of you should indulge, especially not in the storage closet or on your sturdy wood desk, his willpower faltered. βDon't tempt me with that shit when you know itβs a bad idea,β he griped without the balls to make it sound sincere.
You raked your fingers into a fist where they laid, pulling his uniform taut. The coveralls went tight over his lap, stressing deep shadows leading to the concentrated swell down his pants leg; made more obvious when he spread his knees wider, scraping his boots across the floor. Jittery nerves, flexed thighs, torn between crossing a line. Treats, perks, pick-me-ups. Hugging, kissing, touching over your bra. It was a dangerous path to tread. Risky. A million reasons why you shouldnβt.
βWant me to stop?β
βNo.β Punctual, quick. Answered hoarsely in the breakroom of your workplace. βKeep going.β
His sentence rumbled in your mouth. Permission vibrated past your teeth, words rolled over your tongue, coating your brain in syrupy sweetness. Keep going. Texture of his stubble, then texture of his skin. Nearly invisible bumps matching the taste buds you licked down the sculpt of his throat, following the moody blue vein to where it disappeared under the ribbed collar of his shirt. You nudged the barrier away, and dropped wet kisses on the hilled muscle. His head fell further into the crook of your arm, offering, making the spot more accessible for you to lap at, cherish. The position was perfect. No better vantage point to stare down your boyfriendβs shuddering chest while you sucked a bruise on his neck, and wrung his coveralls a little tighter.
The shadows defining his lap twitched.
Eddie imposed his fingers between yours, and adjusted his grip several times until the sturdy cotton twill restricted his length flat. Without looking, you knew his nostrils flared when he released a rough exhale afterwards. Being so close, you heard the bubbles in his saliva pop before his mouth constricted on the swallow. You listened to the spit travel, saw his throat bob. Felt the hitch in his whine before he ever sank to the edge of the chair, where his hips would lurch and his clothes would drag along the oversensitive temptation begging for more in a hard throb. A short, delicate, and devastating morsel of what his mouth drooled for.
βAm I making you feel better?β
Through the trance of the powerful initiative rushing his blood south, compounded by the many rules and boundaries he broke of his own accord since he met you, paired with the sultry aid of your husky voice, he nodded. His muscle swayed beneath your teeth. βSo much better, baby.β
βLove to hear it, handsome,β you kissed his cheek.
Dots of bright candy apple red bloomed amongst the pink where you marked the destination in the passage from his ear to his ball chain necklace. The metal beads were warm on your loving peck to his keepsake. Returning to the raw span beside it, you nursed the bruise along, sealing your kiss-plumped lips to the afflicted area, and bringing forth stipples of violet. Eddie disciplined his moan in the quiet room; coffee pot full, and vending machines clicking to lower hums; yet his weak noise wrapped you in tangled bedsheets, and unset alarms. Strong arms, and a slow cadence between your legs. Fantasies which were lost in the anguish of professionalism, and busy schedules.
Then, he called you back to reality with another sound. Whinier. Hemmed in his shaky breath, and a fluttered βohβ.
You broke the heavy-lidded spell over your eyes and fixed your gaze on the reason his grip on your shoulder cinched.
Eddie rocked his hips, and the outline of his cock strained against his coveralls. The entire definition of his head stretched the fabric as hard as it could at the top of the thrust, and fell to his thigh on the descent. Lines amassed on his forehead as he worked the circle again, starting on a pace which favored his next moan. Low, and slowβfinding a steady rhythm, and simmering. Like that, accepting the urge and giving in, fuck the consequences. The spontaneity of you suggesting you give him some relief before the work day began spurred him, and whatever reservations he had about not fooling around while on the clock crumbled. Not that his convictions were ever strong to begin with when it came to you.
Approaching something more desperate with each controlled motion scoring the friction he couldnβt resist, another moanβthick, and hot like warmed maplewood sapβrumbled from his braced chest.
With his eyebrows pinched, and mouth slack, he watched himself get off on nothing but his own determination.
Spit flooded your bottom lip. Your palm needed to be filled. You ached for his smooth skin moving up and down while you fisted his shaft. You strangled his clothes at the thought, and yes, you begged, βCan I?β to which he dropped his head back and groaned a soft βfuckβ.
βWhatever you want, baby,β he released in a jumble of grateful syllables.
Hanging onto his composure, he reached for the zipper, and the action stirred a phantom taste of his salty release on your tongue. Your body fought tooth and nail to have patience. You distracted yourself by placing fervent kisses in his hair as thanks for the wonderful start to the morning, about to pump Eddieβs cock to the same tempo as your racing heart without an ounce of restraint, when you froze.
A near-mute whoosh of air alerted every nerve in your body.
There was no mistaking the gust of the glass door rushing open, its whispered squeak imperceivable to anyone who didnβt spend an inordinate amount of time sitting beside it. But Eddie heard it. Or, he heard the thudding steps leading the jumpstart in his heart.
He freaked.
In a flurry, Eddie kicked up his hips to zip his jumpsuit to his throat, and you spun around to dig through the fridge while metal chair legs screeched across the tile, scooting in until his upper half was soldered to the rim of the table, and you picked out his favorite creamer.
Hot coffee beat out the smell of Old Spice. The fridgeβs condenser fan knocked sense into the lapse of judgment. A booming voice penetrated the ringing pitch of bad decisions rushing loud in your ears.
βMorninβ!β Mr. Moore waited for your response of βGood morningβ to drive his Thursday mood, βYβwatch the news last night?β he asked, holding the conversation just inside the breakroom door. βWeather lady said the storm over Springfield is just sittinβ thereβyβknow, just hangin' over the city churnin' out rain like you wouldn't believe! Itβs a strange one; the whole system is avoiding us, but it's what's brought on this heat wave. And just a few days ago we were seeinβ our breath! The thunderstorm from the weekend dented my new chicken pen with hail, and now Iβm turninβ on the A/C, but thatβs Hawkins for ya.β Sucking his teeth, he muttered to himself, βCursed town.β
At that, you collected Eddieβs mug from the cabinet, and clinked a spoonful of sugar and Coffee Mate in his mug, stirring through the swirl of piping hot beige.
Mr. Moore continued, βAnyway, we should probβly dust off that drum fan, βnd set it up before the sun turns the garage into an oven.. You okay, Ed?β
You wiped the steam from your fingers onto your skirt, demonstrating an extraordinary amount of strength in resisting looking at him.
βYeah, Iβyeah, I think those fumes from yesterday got to me.β
βAh, gotcha,β Mr. Moore replied, familiar with the debilitating headaches mechanics frequently succumbed to. βTake it easy today, will ya? And, uh, could you help me with the fax machine?β You perked up at the change in tone, understanding the question was intended for you. βIf you got a minute, I need to send out some of these papers.β
Tapping the spoon, rinsing it, putting it aside, you said, βSure can,β and your boss took that as his cue to walk into his office. Door open.
You set the perfect cup of coffee on the table, and stalled. Eddieβs fingers trembled over his forehead, laced into a shield and only lowered to the bridge of his nose in order to pierce you with all the glare he could muster; bouncing his knee in such a frenzy it quivered the curl of his bangs over his plum face, and shook the thinness of his scorched cheeks.
βTold you this was a bad idea,β he enunciated, wholly vindicated.
Your lips wore a tingle through their numbness as they thinned into a regretful grin. βIβm sorry.β You passed a kiss over top his head where your hand stroked. When the coal of his eyes continued to scold you through his thick lashes, you gave him another kiss, and spoke in softer earnest, βI really am, Eddie. I didnβt mean to, you know.. yeah.β Balls so deeply blue, they matched his jumpsuit. βThought we had enough time to finish.β
He grunted.
Under the pressure of both time and guilt, you spun your hands into finger guns at the door, and shuffled backwards from him awkwardly, eyes set on the scuff marks on the floor. βIβll justββ You were already steps away, about to exit.
ββguess Iβll jack off again.β
βWhat was that?β
Eddie jerked his head up, eyebrows lifting, realization crossing his glazed over stare. The sentence was meant as a vent of frustration, but not where you could hear it. He couldnβt get redder; in fact, he paled around his mouth a little, licking his lips. βIβuh.β He blinked irregularly through his stutter, finding the words which evaded him, scraping his brain for an explanation while he wrung and crossed his arms in a loose hug over his shoulders, fidgeting. βIt, well, it h-hurts if I donβt..β
Corroding into an eye-roll only hidden by the very act of closing your eyes, you informed him, βYes, I am well aware of the biological phenomenon. You said βagainβ, though. Meaning?β
After a moment of deciding how much information he was willing to divulge, he shrugged into his shoulders, dipping his chin to one side, using his hair to shy behind. βIβve.. had to jack off before,β he answered, being coy with the topic.
βHere?β
βYes.β
βAt work?β
βIn the bathroom, yeah.β
βHow come?β
His intentional avoidance drew your smile, so mischievous and calling his bluff, cornering the affection in his expression until his sneaky glance from beneath his bangs wove more and more of a story into his sheepishness. βSometimes you wear stuff I like.β
You pounced. βOh, yeah?β Interposing yourself between two chairs across from Eddieβignoring the sound of Mr. Mooreβs fist beating on the plastic machine in the other roomβyou drew circles on the tabletop, and pried, βWhat kind of stuff? When? Do you mean this week, or, like, before we were even friends?β
βI am not telling you that,β he laughed, he choked, he deniedβhardβbasically confirming he did wrap his hand around his cock at the thought of you, perhaps at work, perhaps yesterday after the closet incident, perhaps at the start of your employment at Davidβs Auto Repair when he didnβt know how to process the new receptionist flirting with him and his way of shutting down any feelings before they began was by ridding himself of the urge.
The topic itself was eliminated by his arm swinging outward, conversation not up for discussion.
And you, enjoying the attention that made him fold his hands over his lap, laid your upper half across the table, propping your elbows so there was a gap down your blouse if he so chose to ocularly venture.
Your words mushed from your fists beneath your chin, βIs it the skirts?β You rocked side to side. His crows feet deepened, shoulders shaking from suppressed giggles, refusing the allurement of your shapely sway draped in corporate gray. βOr is it the jeans and hoodie that does it for ya? Really getcha goinβ when Iβm dressed down? Hmm?β Your eyebrow waggle dueled with his sealed lips.
ββMβnot tellinβ,β he defended, hardly able to speak through his fondness for flattering you; as if praising you were its own reward, reflected upon him as a good man worthy of having his dirty boots tucked beside your front door.
From the hallway, a rackety sound strung together with a cuss and muffled call of your name roused the logical side of your brain, awakening you both from the hormonal haze.
Eddie clicked his tongue. βBest get to work, sweetheart.β
βWhy? Need some alone time?β
The weight of the ache between his legs burdened his lack of comeback.
Obliging, because he was right, you stretched across the table and waited for him to meet you halfway. But he didnβt attempt to close the distance. He stayed put, committed to his stubbornness, and forced you to stain the muscles down the backs of your legs in order to reach. Fine, you played into his game. You planted your smirk on his mouth, dousing his smug features with your own.
βI was just thinking,β you lead innocently, βIβve already packed my closet, but I might find the time to go through the boxes tonight, and pick out my outfit for tomorrow.β
βBabeββ It was an instant beg. Your favorite kind. βDon't you dare,β and he couldnβt even erase the intrigue, the thrill, the excitement of stolen youth in his tone. The sneaking around, the perks, the treatsβthe boundary you both knew you shouldn't cross, because of worse decorum than him sitting stiffly at a table, ripe with embarrassment. βYou canβt do that. Are you evenβ? Baby?β
βByβe,β you sang on your way out.
ββββ
Friday came with an excessive heat warning.
Footsteps came from behind you, lingering at the door. An arduous breath was spent sighing, but his voice was too playful to shame you, hardly traipsing through his throat to chastise, βYouβre something else, you know that?β
Every beat of your heart was emphasized by his step forward, dragging his boots until his body heat warmed your backside. Blissfully unaware, you continued washing the glass carafe in the breakroom sink. Staying diligent in your task wasnβt an admission of guilt; rather, diverting your attention was an act of grace, of benevolence, granting him access to feast on your figure. It was obvious from the moment you arrived his hunger grew insatiable. You walked into the garage exactly as late as you planned, arms loaded with two boxes of freshly fried donuts, and the shine in his sharp-set eyes did not match those of his coworkers springing from their circle around the workbench. No, the to-go orders of dark roast coffees did not feed a smile to his face as it did for Kevin, nor did the waft of sugary glaze excite his mouth into watering like it did for the other men.
Eddieβs cravings were of a different breed.
His expression was hard, then. If youβd just met, youβd think your merry presence pissed him off. Now knowing better, you read the initial shock before he schooled it to an intense stare, steely gaze locking you into a match. You provoked him with a golden sunshine grin. His jaw went slack enough to run his tongue along his inner cheek, calming his rise in blood pressure, nose perking pink and eyes flashing dark and lips twitching to one side.
You excused yourselfββI should clean the coffee maker before I leave those grounds in there all weekend,ββand went to the breakroom. Eddie was hot on your trail. He came in not half a minute later. Probably didnβt even make up an excuse, he just left the circle.
βThis is too far, even for you,β he maintained, aching and slow, words brushing over your ear.
Anticipation mounted in the sound of his clothing shifting, leather boots creaking. You expected him to do something sweetβrun his knuckle down the small of your back, or thumb at the strap along your shoulderβbut instead, you gasped.
Water sloshed in the coffee pot, suds squishing from the squeeze you put on the sponge.
He dived under the hem of your dress. The fabric fit tight on your body, snug to your waist, closing your thighs in a hug. He tugged it over the curve of your ass, exposing your bare cheeks to the chilly room. Bold. Risky. Dirty. Nowhere near the platonic workplace relationship he was trying to front. You twisted to look up at him with wide, thrilled eyes, giddy with the boost of flattery knowing your simple clothing choice drove him wild.
Eddie got a sturdy grip on the counter edge, and eased his weight onto you until you were covered by his magnificence, chest to back. He shaped his palm to your hip, and dug his thumb above the elastic band of your underwear, connecting the need of his hand to the yearn of his mouth. You melted in the pocket of his embrace, greeting him with parted lips, accepting his tongue. Never would you tire of his breath overtaking yours. Spit, spearmint gum, oddly metallic. Smoke break. You break. Morning tangle of you and him when the others were enjoying donuts one glass door away.
Fearless fingertips discovered you without hesitation. Polished callouses swept over and around to the front of your thigh, greeting the warm juncture with a smooth trace of his buffed skin, middle finger following the edge of your cotton panties down the seam, and up. Only an inch or so into the crease where your leg met the thong, back and forth twice along the line, enough to skim your nerves awake, and work you into a sweat for his index hovering over the swell where a single graze would have your knees weak. Taking the touch away, he wrapped his arm around your middle, and drew your hips in.
He pressed fat and heavy along your backside, unashamed.
The kiss ended in a juicy smack, finished by your hum against the coarse grain peppering his jaw. Lips were licked, sparkling eyes gazed into their match. Coming down with a lovesickness, your skin fostered a high fever, woozy bliss clouding your headβdreamy dreamy dreamy.
βYou know what this dress does to me, donβt you?β
A grin cracked your face. βI might.β You immersed yourself in the comfort of his firm body draped around you, the raw sensation of your bare skin against his rugged coveralls, and lazed in the same memory as him.
The burgundy pinafore clung to the warmth of his taken smile from that night. So smitten, and fond. A dress made of belly clenching laughter, woven together with threads of brave glances, converging and averting when the strikes of nerves teemed on admitting too much. Cinnamon, nutmeg, grape jelly in the slow cooker meatballs. Freshly shed pine needles, and glitter. Significance baked into every fiber of the dress you wore under a lonely sprig of mistletoe, unkissed.
Never again would he let you go home believing you werenβt a treasure.
βCanβt be wearinβ this around me,β he obsessed, and you giggled at the rich confidence in his voiceβa prelude to the depth he was willing to go. βGonna get me in trouble.β
Using the sink ledge as leverage, you muscled Eddie into standing up straight with you, winning his heart with a doe-some blink. Arching, you swayed your hips on the length catching between your round cheeks, though the position flaunted something else which might entice him in engaging in risky behavior. βIβm not wearing a bra, either,β you said. Your voice was girlishβfloaty and highβa bit raspy from your neck being turned to admire the handsome amount of approval twinkling in his dark eyes.
βYeah?β Eddie moved his Stupid Cupid lips over the very edge of your ear, and rumbled through the words weighing down his chest, βNeed me to fuck you that bad, huh?β
Thrums of pleasure lit within you.
You nodded the side of your face against the scratch of his chinβa morning, day, evening, night, dusk, dawn without a shave.
βNeed me here?β he asked, slipping his fingers inside your dress. The fabric over your chest struggled to accommodate his circle around your nipple. You sucked in a breathβreleased in a moanβand grabbed onto his arm for stability, already falling backwards into him. The direct blessing of his prod to the bud was too much. Your toes curled at his pinch. He flicked the tip of his smooth finger pad over it faster. βYeah? You like that?β You whined a croaky sound, resting your head on his chest, unable to keep your eyes open to admire the way he watched himself do this to you, chin hooked over your shoulder to view his own hand groping his girl beneath his favorite dress.
βNeed me somewhere else?β he asked, and your hips began to mimic the circle he stroked as an answer.
With the ease of a man whoβd pictured this scenario more times than respectful, Eddie seized the permission. Middle, index; his two thickest, longest, dexterous. Divine, and unholy. At the bottom of your dress bunched over the top of your thighs, he crooked those two fingers under the hem intentionally, while your hand combed through his hair at the suggestion. βYeah? Want me to touch you there?β Thereβa base heβd yet to run even when you were alone on your second date. βNeed me that bad while weβre at work?β
You verbalized your desire, as weak as it skirted past your sigh, βPlease, Eddie.β
One plea, and it was Love Potion No. 9. His lean frame blanketed you, cradled you, collected you to his height, corded muscles gone solid with restraint. Large nose pressed to your ear, including you in the deep draw of validation into his lungs. Hugging you to the pride inflating his firm chest. The full throaty rasp of desire, and being desired, intimate and close. Two fingers ventured under your dress. You twirled his hair, teething your bottom lip in anticipation for the touch. They were shaped to claim his prize locked behind a fine layer, but he teased you first. He curved the breadth of his palm to the stretch of cotton, width of his calloused reach forcing your feet apart, and brushed past your deepest craving to cherish the place he craved.
βJesus,β he wept.
His fingers glided along the wet patch on your thong, fabric sticking to your wet heat. It slid along you in a sticky lick, and he sank his teeth to the base of your neck, beyond help. A noise tripped in your throat at his simultaneous pinch on your nipple. He was a goner.
In a few circles around your entrance, he had you melting into his arms. A tweak on your nipple gained your fingers at the root of his hair. He squeezed your slick lips together, and your neglected need sang at the stimulation, begging him in a gasp to do it again. He did. He did, he did, again, however many times it took to have your sighs dive into moans.
Two devilish fingers began their journey upwards, intentions set and clear. Smarmy with ego, he goaded, βLetβs see how long it takes you to cuββ
The near-mute whoosh of the glass door was made obvious by the chorus of menβs laughter bouncing in.
Cold fear licked up your spine. You scrambled for the abandoned coffee pot in spectacular fashion, struggling to get hold of its soapy body in the fret of stress induced tunnel visionβbut Eddie? Eddie took his time hitching your dress hem where it should be, flattening it to your thighs. The telltale gait of your boss was nearing, and he was in no rush to jolt to the opposite end of the planet away from you. Oh, no. Your boyfriend brushed his hands in methodical sweeps over the fabric, smoothing it to your hips, mirroring the same cadence as the steps which sent you into a panic. He even gave you a hard pat after he was done. Kissed your cheek to seal the deal, only stepping away to peruse the vending machines the moment Mr. Moore rounded the corner.
βCanβt resist havinβ a little sugar in my coffee,β he informed from the hallway, chipper as can be, strutting in while you were rearranging your dumbstruck stare into something pleasant. He swiped three Splenda packets. βWeβre βboutta start the meeting, by the way.β You nodded at the coffee pot you washed to a shine. Mhm! you replied after an anxious attempt for anything better, tight-lipped, and dodging his prying eyes by enacting a coughing fit into your elbow in the other direction, willing to bolt if he even so much as thought about voicing his concern over your strange behavior.
Ka-shink, ka-shink, ka-shink. Eddie fed quarters into the Pepsi machine. βBe right there,β he announced, jamming one of the rectangular buttons on the side.
Mr. Moore paused for the longest .02 seconds of your life. No amount of money could bait you into turning around. Whatever expression he was makingβif he knew what you and Eddie were doingβthat was between him and God. Your shoulders were squared, muscles ready to flee in panic, heart racing beyond what it should be capable of. All the while Eddie crouched for his drink clunking to the bottom slot.
βWell,β was your bossβ succinct response on his way out, underscoring the end of his thought.
There shouldβve been some relief, but your breath stayed in your lungs, and your hands shook horrendously, smacking the handle for the faucet too hard on accident, shooting the stream out on high. And, of course, the closed coffee pot lid was the perfect shield, sending water everywhere.
You screwed your eyes shut and defended yourself from the onslaught, worrying about your face and dress first, and your wimpy shriek second.
Eddie came to your rescue.
Ever the hero, ever the gentleman, he shut off the water for you. A βthank youβ had been earned, but one peek between your lashes had you quirking your brow in question. He was too close. Standing univinted beside you, almost touching, invading your personal space in a show of ownership. Shadows attempted to temper his smirk, but they cut harshly around the devious apples of his flushed cheeks. You opened your mouth to ask why he was looking at you like that, whenβ
The explanation came in your stolen yelp.
βEd!β
βShh,β he taunted, taking charge of his bubbling laughter at your reaction.
Goosebumps erupted down your legs, pebbling harder where he rolled the freshly dispensed can of Mug root beer across the back of your thighs. The chill bit into you, and you bit into your bottom lip. Squirmy noises squeaked from your throat. He reached under your dress and held the soda to your ass cheek, replacing the warmth of his cock with a bitter lesson. A stingingβfuckingβcold lesson. He pinned your options between him, his arm, and the countertop. There was no escaping his revenge. You saw no other choice but to cling to his coveralls, let the shiver run its course, and scold him in a failed whisper, βEddieβ!β He loved it. Enjoyed every crinkle of your pathetic glare when you realized why he was doing it.
His length was softening against you. An old technique, rubbing vigorously at his sensitive head until the evidence of his arousal went away without repercussions. And now you were the one all worked up with no release.
Grinning like a menace, his cockiness eclipsed your vision, putting his forehead to yours so his snarky giggle vibrated in your skull. He wrangled you into his embrace, manipulating you with ease. Layers of implied strength snapped your hips forward. Years of unassuming muscle beneath his humble clothes locked you to his body without trouble. Strong arms you recognized the power of when they snatched a man by his tie, seasoned hands equipped for ripping out rusted axle shafts, fingers which threaded elastic string through plastic beads with the same finesse as soldering spliced wires together. They all joined in consecutive evil to slide the can between your round cheeks, down to where your yearning sprung.
βJesus fucking Christ!β You picked up his vocabulary at some point. βI swear, Eddie Munson, if you donβt move that right now.β
βIβm just coolinβ ya off, sweetheart.β He sounded so pleased with himself, the jerk. He also sensed the impending handprint on his cheek, and apologized with a bit of earnest effort, βSorry.β
Not betraying his newly actualized cavalier attitude towards urgency, he utilized his afternoon drink against your needy core as a way to hike you onto your tiptoes, and bless you with an offensive smirk kissed onto your slanted grimace.
Pussy numbed, he took his root beer away, and moved past you.
βDid you plan this?β you asked, assumed, accused. Mellow in anger, harsh in disbelief. βIs this payback for yesterday?β And the day before that. And the day before that. And maybe the day before that, too.
βWell, yes and no,β he resolved, sorting his explanation while opening the fridge. You crossed your arms, and stuck your hip out. The sensation between your legs was dull and cold. βWith our luck, I knew weβd get interrupted before we could finishβand I did intend to give you a taste of your own medicineβbut, yeah, uh, then you showed up in that dress, and all my plans went out the window,β his voice tumbled silly with self-deprecation, gestures as big as his eyes. βI was planning on just coming in here, and letting you know how hot you were. Make out with you some, maybe get a lilβ handsy, yβknow, make you feel good like you make me feel good. But, uh.. Yeah. Didnβt mean to get carried away like I did.β He prized you in another look over. A damning amount of awe sat in his simper, like he was experiencing his crush flirting with him for the first time all over again. That is, before he hung his head back, and opened his throat to release a hoarse groan at the ceiling.
Eddie held the cold can to his lap, rolling it over the swell, taming the last of his biological drive from showing. βTrust me, baby, Iβm chewing through my leash to get to you.β
Too charming. A flustering rush of flattery washed over youβwarm, fuzzy, prickly heat of the back of your neck. Your annoyance at him was never genuine, but it certainly wasnβt after watching him speckle his jumpsuit with condensation in effort to resist breaking a code of conduct. Though, you were still strategizing how long it would take with your deft fingers down your underwear in order to rid your own need, and sit at your desk without chewing through the particle board, too.
Reading your mind, he put the soda away, and approached you with two palms on your nape, frigid fingers laced behind your neck and cold thumbs stroking your jaw. He dropped his head to the side, and maintained unblinking eye contact through his slow disapproving shake, resentment festering in his desperate gaze. βIf I donβt get a few minutes alone with you today, Iβm gonna go insane,β he stated. You believed him. βIβm serious, you better scrape together a few minutes to come kiss me on my smoke break, or else.β
There was no elaboration on what βor elseβ meant.
βI will,β you promised, weak to his kiss on your forehead.
Figuring youβd both been stalling long enough, he trailed his last goodbyes for the foreseeable future on the line of your cheek bone, your chin, bridge of your nose, corner of your lips. Wherever. He swept his hand into your own, and brought it to his mouth, hiding the beginnings of his smirk in the smooches to your knuckles. βWas the soda thing too much?β
Grinding dullness to his sharp intrigue, you rolled your eyes. βIt was kind of hot, I guess,β you forced out in a monotone droll, feigning harder exasperation when his expression squinched too mirthful.
βDonβt you mean cold?β
You soured, distaste in every syllable, βCriminally unfunny.β
βI know you liked that one, sweets,β he shot back, waggling his eyebrows. βNow, letβs get to that meeting before they get any ideas about us, pretty girl.β He finished with a wink, and two giddy-up clicks of his tongue.
βI hate you.β
βThatβs too bad, βcause I adore you.β
~~~
A few kisses in the alleyway, thatβs all either of you asked for. Two minutes alone. Maybe more than three sentences exchanged about matters not pertaining to work. But, no. Even when you escaped the two men at your desk reciting an encyclopedic amount of knowledge about some type of engine you didnβt care about, you were roped into giving directions to the shop over the phone while shuffling through invoices in Mr. Mooreβs office. And when Eddie got you pressed against the wall in the storage room, someone yelled for him to help with a rush job, killing the mood. To make matters worse, the grueling week ended with you and Eddie being scheduled on the same lunch slot, but with the approaching deadline for expense sheets being due at the end of the day, you were planning to eat yours at your desk, and avoid the torture of sitting next to him without being able to touch him like you wanted.
You opened the fridge and took out the Buckley special. Yellow squash casserole with a side of Shake βn Bake chicken. Eddieβs teal and purple lunch bag contained an extra helping of both. Itβd become customary for Robin's mom to cook extra, and pack it away for you to bring for him. His actual lunch was in a paper bag next to it. Big spoiled man.
Speaking of, he was at the sink; sleeves rolled up his wrists, scrubbing himself clean with Fast Orange. Bitter citrus stung your nose as he lathered up his hands, working the pumice into the smudges of grease around his knuckles.
Mr. Moore got your attention without introduction. βIβm taking the wife out to that new Italian restaurant. Shouldβa asked her if she wanted Italian food, but oh well. Weβre swinginβ by the sign shop next to it, and makinβ real sure our logoβs nice and big on that banner for tomorrow.β He accentuated the importance of Davidβs Auto Repair with high brows, and a canted head. He also managed to pronounce it both Eye-talian, and Uh-talian in the same thought. βBe back in, uhhβhour βn a half, maybe?β He swung his keys into his fist on his way out.
The group for lunch would be smaller, then. Maybe you could do your paperwork at the table, and get away with playing footsie with your favorite mechanic. Yipee.
βHope Iβm not interrupting anything,β Kevin announced, and you both looked at him over your shoulders. You were sorting the lunches to get the casseroles in the microwave, and Eddie was rubbing an extra squirt of Dawn between his fingers. Exceptionally mundane. βI was so impressed by that coffee this morning, Iβm going down to the diner and ordering myself a sandwich and dessert. Probβly finish it up with another cupβa coffee after. Gonna make it a whole forty-five minute ordeal,β he sold the significance with several nods.
His immediate disappearance out the lobby door after his statement was strange, but you shrugged at each other, and went back to the lunches and hand washing.
βDβyou know where those bottles of wax are?β
You shook your head. Eddie shook his head slower. A heavy thread of tension bred awareness between your two bodies strung taut from pent up urges.
βWeird,β Carl huffed. βI swear I just had βem. Well, shit. Canβt finish this car without at least one. Iβll go pick some up at the hardware store. Be back in a few,β he let you know, voice echoing off the hallway walls on his way to his truck.
Cold, warm, hot. Your blood buzzed. The bell above the front door dinged as it latched closed. Left behind was a lobby empty of people, garage paused in limbo, and a building cast in silence. You turned to Eddie. Dawning comprehension overtook your faces, wide eyes fixed on each other.
βHoly shit,β he exhaled, and you were already shoving your food back in the fridge, smashing his bologna sandwich in the process. Eddie cursed again, βHoly shit!β and snatched the hard bristle brush, scouring the dirt from under his nails, between his fingers, up his arms until the water ran clear and his skin burned pink. The same could be said for the grime on his cheeks. His light blue coveralls were soaked from the water dripping down his neck, but his face was spotless. Only the best for your lips.
βOh, fuck, Eddie,β came your relief.
He accepted your willowy clutch on his sleeves. βIt takesβIt takes four minutes to get to the hardware store,β he stuttered in excitement, counting on his fingers behind your back, βso eight minutes roundtrip, factor in another eight for parking, looking for the wax, and checking out. That gives us sixteen minutes!β
Sixteen minutes where? Behind you was a plastic table which wobbled from an uneven foot. In the lobby was your desk in full view of the windows. In the bay were cars neither of you were quite brave enough to chance a stain on a seat.
βUm, um,β Eddieβs quick thinking trembled, about to suggest he take you there on the unforgiving tile floor, when he remembered, βOh! My van! I brought my van.β He grasped you by the shoulders, shaking passion down to your toes about the hunk of metal parked outside his trailer when you visited. βI brought my van! I brought my van to drop off some amps at Garethβs before the show!β
Rattled, you went to give him a thumbs up in full agreement, but he grabbed your hand, and bolted. You half-complained, half-shrieked, βYou donβt need to drag me!β Reckless youth inspired him, broad grin loud and clear in his unadulterated sprint towards the OPEN sign and flipping it to display CLOSED. You skidded and bumped into him, bodies converging in true laughter. He caught you, he always caught you, and hauled you to the glass door, slowing in a smooth stride to open it for you. Always opening it for you. The garage was baked in sunshine, streaming through the warehouse windows on the bright day. Eddieβs boots clunked loud on the floor. A rock in the alleyway ricocheted off his shoe, bouncing off the tire of your temporary five star hotel.
The covert brown and cream van sat parked amongst the brick, gravel, and curls of dead leaves playing in the gentle breeze. It sat in full view of cars passing on either end of the back street. You hoped they were watching.
He wrenched one half of the creaky back doors open, and ushered you in the hollow between him and the carpeted floor, engulfing your face with his citrusy palms. βDonβt wanna waste a second,β he asserted in a winded breath, blurring your mind with a heady kiss, and impatient pat on your backside.
Rocks crunched under his boots. Two sturdy hands cupped the back of your thighs, helping you hop up onto the back of his van in a thrill of flirty giggles, weak for how bad he wanted you. Your calves slid against the warm metal bumper, your feet dangled by the exhaust pipe, your knees trapped his hips between your legs. His thick fingers sank into your fat, thumbs particularly bruising. Being everything he wanted, you snagged him closer by the collar, mouths almost meeting, and tilted yourself on the outline straining his coveralls, looking into his big brown eyes with a plea when the lone impact sweltered under your skin.
He hiked your knee to his waist, exposing you more to his packed heat aching to see you again. βCβmon,β he said, lips loaded with devilishness, βcanβt stand to spend another second out here where I canβt have you.β
Anyone cruising by could bear witness to Hawkinsβ number one Satanist loading a pretty young thing in the back of his ice cream sandwich colored van, and make assumptions.
Bless them.
You scooted backwards into the belly of the dragonβs lair. For an old beater used for transporting band equipment, he took good care of it. The carpet was clean. The wood paneling up the sides remained unscuffed. The back seat was taken out to make room for a hard case for a guitar, and two large amps wrapped in a spare comforter to prevent damage on either. And thatβs where your observations ended.
Eddieβs indecent gaze was set on the stretch of white cotton under your dress. Nothing could break his stare as he threw his hair in a low bun, grabbed either side of the metal doorframe, stepped one foot on the edge, and bounced the van twice before hauling himselfβand his manic smileβinside.
The acoustics amplified the door slamming shut.
His boots made for two heavy lovedrunk steps. Bruises were earned on his knees, dropping to them where your hem had ridden up, keen eyes traveling the valley between your thighs, up to the soft round of your nipples. Expecting his imminent weight, you laid back. Heat from the floor warmed you through your clothes. He crawled over you; one hand by your hip, the other next to your shoulder. You were lying beneath him for the first time, and he behaved long enough to memorize your gentle grin, and adoring squint.
βOh, youβre gonna be the end of me,β he said, accent thick in his throat, ripe with lust. The gravel alone had your hands on the back of his neck, attempting to pull him down, to continue the momentum. But he didnβt budge. Distant in the blood rush, he found a bit of sobriety to ask, βDβya mind if I get you dirty? Iβm kinda gross.β His coveralls were marked with grime, dusted with dirt, splotched with oil. The overt blue collar status of his job opposed the unblemished burgundy and stark white tee of yours, sitting at a desk and answering phones in semi-working A/C.
You admired the mental fortitude it took to ask you first, but now was not the time to be a gentleman.
βSo get me gross,β you replied, and a flicker of revelation stirred in his features. βI want to be gross with you.β You, Munson, The Freak of Hawkins, the one who everyone avoided; he who was rejected for being unapologetically himself. Taking advantage of his solid shoulders, you peeled yourself off the floor, and from the depths of belonging, you set fire to his kindling. βMake me fucking dirty.β
Eddieβs mouth pursed, then stretched thin, cheeks high, crinkling the corners of his eyes. βMy pleasure.β
Plush lips crashed onto yours, body covering you in desperation, touch starved. His weight hugged you, pinned you. He flattened his arm alongside your head for support, and welcomed your legs bent around the length of his backside. Playfully suggestive hums followed his greedy hand scaling your thigh. Short layers of his hair fell forward, tickling your cheeks in summer innocence, while down below his thumb grazed the narrow string of your thong strapped over your hip in a fraction of the hunger he had for you. One trace under your panties, and the kiss went sloppy with tongue; slick mouths mashing, teeth knocking, jaws aching, and lips swollen. Aggressive, possessive, and dizzy. Your dress bunched around your waist. Rugged fabric rasped where your chests met. Smears of grime, dust, oil dirtied you.
Because the clock was ticking, you sped things up with a squeeze around his ass. Eddie listened. Oh, Eddie listened. He took the thrust in stride, pressing down on your need, and catching your forehead with his. The pain was negligible. A gift, even, to hold your gaze when you clawed for the waist of his coveralls, and harnessed a hotter tension on your underwear. A concentrated craze blunted by the thick layers separating you. You lifted your hips for him, spurring more, faster, pouring your strength into earning a faint squeak on the vanβs suspension.
He nosed your chin up, and slipped painful kisses over your jaw, finding the spot below your ear to laud, like you did to him, sucking and releasing when your whine doubled. βPretty,β he moaned into a harder kiss along the trail of spit his breath cooled. The edge of his teeth scraped another fragile gasp. He rocked his hips for a better one. βLove the way you sound.β
Grasping for clarity in the haze, you reminded him, βJust for you.β
βFuckβ βhis voice cracked in the sprint to recover what those three little words did to himβ βthatβs fuckinβ right just for me.β
Copying what you did in the breakroom, he brought his hand up from your waist to move your shirt out of the way, exposing the meat at the base of your neck. Too excited, he left a map of his teeth. The bite stung your nails into his back. βSorry,β he regretted, but you denied your pained gulp of air, rubbing your cheek along his temple in a head shake, Sβokay. He ran his tongue over the grooves as an apology, anyway. Tracking the dips and curves, licking, suckling, and nipping however hard he could to make you scratch circles on his scalp while struggling with the two syllables of his name.
His hair smelled of fertile soil and charred earth, a tang of metal and new tires.
You gave yourself over to the garden of his scent, sunshine against your eyelids. Beyond the fatigue in your inner thighs was his constant, eager, chase. Chewing through his leash. Gnawing at his restraints. You focused on the long graze of friction, and forgot your surroundings which did not serve the fleeting jolts of pleasure between your legs, or the groping at your tits. You didnβt know there was an issue until Eddieβs frustrated grunt led to a harder tug at the unforgiving neckline of your dress, and finally, he shoved himself upright.
βHow the hell do I get this off you?β
That explains why he was grabbing at both sides beneath your arms in search of a zipper.
Blinking, suddenly coming back to Earth, you contained your snort at his distressed motioning at the offensive garment enough to tell him, βItβs in the back,β and added, βlike most dresses made in the last two, or three decades.β
He beckoned for you to sit upβa sharp gesture, but not without reasonβand with your arms around his neck, he unzipped it with such speed, the plastic teeth shouldβve melted from the traction. As he lowered you, the straps slipped from your shoulders, thick fingers inviting the release down to your elbows, breadwinner fists folding the top of the dress over on itself, joining where the bottom was scrunched around your middle. Youβd only shaken the straps from your wrists when your body rocked side to side; a victim to his fumbling way of untucking your shirt, dying from suspense.
Stale air struck you from navel to neck.
His warm tongue was on you. βOhβmm!β your voice raised a girlish notch. Two fat laps into coaxing your nipple tall, and fresh embarrassment ramped up your cheeks from the choked noise you made. You arched into his mouth for more, seeking foundation on his hands when an accidental skim of his teeth piqued your nerves alight. Rolling your head back, you found him through touch, starting with his wrists, working up to his knuckles, and curved squeeze cupping your tits together. He showed you how his mouth watered at the sight. Switching sides, he gifted the other stiff bud with a wet swirl, slipping over it again and again, gaining a squirm in your hips when he changed the speedβand without a break, he went back to the first to suckle, and his unintentional moan slipped out louder than yours when he pulled off.
He released a ragged breath into the valley between your breasts, βCouldnβt help myself.β
His determination throbbed impressions along your body even after he sat on his knees, leaving aches behind as a result of the sixteen short minutes he had with you. The adrenaline stayed in his shaky fingers. The top button of his coveralls dodged his pinch, eluding him. Another attempt, and a darker shade of red crept up his throat. βGod fucking damnit, whyβd I wear the ones that fucking button all the way down,β he fumed, wishing he could rip it open like the metal snap pair. You peered at his predicament through your lashes, and helped him out.
You tucked your chin to your shoulder in a pout, and competed for his attention, βHurry up.β
βI know, sweetββ he verbally hit the brakes.
All too pretty, you pushed your tits together and strummed your fingers over your nipples in easy flicks, using his spit to skate over the peaks. You opened your legs wider, feeling his eyes devour you between the thighs. βIβve missed you all week,β you said. His pulse jumped at the tiny excuse for underwear wedged further into the split, trimmed hair growing on either side.
Too long of a pause passed where his expression was slack. βJesus Christ.β Working faster, he tore through the rest of the buttons, possibly losing one in the process, and shucked the jumpsuit over his shoulders. He flapped his arms to get the sleeves off, and his stark black tattoos made an appearance. The clumsy way he undressed shouldnβt have an affect on you, but when he took hold of the stuck cuff and the plastic beads clicked together on his bracelet, fresh roots of attraction thrived. Underneath his workwear a white ribbed tank top stretched over his chest. It mustβve been bought long ago when he was a size smaller, the bulk heβd packed on at the garage filled out the seams to their limit. Soft definition contoured the sun around his muscles. Veins strained the surface of his forearms, streaking shadows through the golden rays. Sparse curls fanned over the top of the neckline, thicker under his arms, and dark where his shirt rode up.
The jumpsuit hung loose around his hips, giving a peek at his boxers.
βYou donβt wear jeans under those?β
βNo? Did you think I did?β
The thought never crossed your mind until it was the only thing on your mind. You just assumed he would, so you shrugged, thinking of quickies in the future.
Eddieβs tolerance for conversation was low. A shuddered exhale blew past his lips, easing his hand down the front of his coveralls, pumping along the length fighting for his attention while he obsessed with what laid before him. Irresistible temptations which would forever change the way he looked at you were created the moment you touched yourself for him. Two fingers, two little circles over your underwear. You lured him, hypnotized him, sighing sweetly at the satisfaction. His bicep jumped in strength to restrain his pace, forearm pulsing from the choke he had on his base.
βBetter calm down,β you teased in a slow lilt.
He scoffedβshallow in mockery, but burdened by the truth of the lines softening around his eyes. Shoving his coveralls low enough for his ego to stretch freely against his boxers, he walked his hands beside your body until his mouth was posed above yours. A suggestion of touch hovered over your knuckles rolling in a rhythm to honor yourself. βI havenβt known calm since I met you.β Your face scrunched cutely at the compliment, and you stopped adding fuel to your fire by bringing both arms around his neck, preparing your lips for a kiss which would not come. βI havenβt known calm since I met you,β he repeated. βSo why start now?β
Unexpected pleasure consumed you. Eddie rocked his hips forward, and the raw glide of his cock with the thinnest separation of fabric possible stole anything that wasnβt animal instinct. You locked your ankles behind his thighs, drove the thrust deeper, and he answered by grinding down, working his base between your lips, loyal to you and the sweat beading on his brow.
You wrenched his tank top in your fists and felt it go tight where your chests merged, grazing over your nipples harsher with each rut. His shoulders shifted under your curious roaming, bulk of his body withdrawing. He didnβt stray far, only to tuck his forehead to your neck where he could hear the catch in your throat and the beat of your heart. Cozying to a place so near, you heard his guitar pick schlink past the beads of his necklace. Adjusting, he slipped into a deeper position between your legs, and a kiss was dipped to the top of your collarbone, long lashes brushing your skin as his eyes fell closed.
Cradled as one, Eddie dragged his cock down your heat, and followed the new angle up. Pitiful begs broke faster than his jagged groan. His fat tip notched itself at the top of your tender lips, nestled where your thong gathered, and he kept you on the precipice of your moanβof which you crashed into splendidly.
βThatβsβgod, Eddie, right there,β you babbled into a whimper.
βFuck, such a pretty sound, baby,β his voice faltered on the endearment, panting hot and sticky on your throat.
The damp spot on his boxers grew. His unrelenting strokes over your clit fast-tracked you both towards the edge.
βDid youβcondoms?β
Perking with interest at your hitched whisper, his stubble scrubbed your jaw in a delight of scratches on his way to nose at your cheek. βPicked βem up on my way home last night.β The suggestive rasp in his voice took residence in your rib cage, smitten by the thought of him going through a checkout so he was prepared to fuck you the next day. βTheyβre in the.. the..β
The rate at which his soul left his body would surprise grim reapers.
βWhereβre they?β
Understanding your concern, he kept his eyes screwed shut and whittled at the knot between his brows with his knuckle, drilling away the irritation at himself. βTheyβre in the glove compartment.. of my car.β
βOh.β The disappointment was brief. Your body clung to the fever he set, knowing you were both close, and paradise was another weekend away. Thinking quickly, you cupped his cheeks and put a swing in your tone, βWe can do other stuff!β Hoping it was good enough, you scrutinized his expression, watching the words register, sink in, brighten his pupils into unholy territory at the idea.
The charm of his dimple was the cherry on top of his two front teeth emerging from the leap of his lips. Earnesty from a thousand endless wells poured out of him, βI love other stuff,β he said, imbuing each round word with a secret.
Jumping up, his enthusiasm was hampered by the roof. βClose call,β he commented to himself, narrowly dodging a concussion. He crouched to some degree, and made his way over to the amps, hiking up his coveralls to his hips as he went. The sheer lust in his weight pressing you to the floor was sorely missed, but you sat up to watch him waddle the amps to the center of the van and tip them, guiding their front plates down flat.
You puzzled out why he would line them up like a short mattress, and began salivating at the thought of him sitting on the additional height, and having his cock better in line with your mouth. βAre those for you?β Eagerness lifted your voice, swam in your glossy eyes. Eddie should be thanking the stars he landed someone so enthusiastic about drinking him whole after putting in hours around the shop, but instead of getting his brain-stopped-working glazed over stare, he slapped the amps twice.
βThese are for you, pretty girl. Come sit down. I gotta thank you, remember?β
A memory of torn nylon and unfulfilled promises sparked at his phrasing.
Gotta thank you.
Getting to your feet, you arranged your arms for a bit of modesty, and snuck past the back windows, walking on shaky legs to where he kneeled at one end of the makeshift bed. Pure affection spotlighted you as the sole receiver of his enraptured smile, face aglow. He squeezed the tips of your fingers as you sat, and his lips were the softest thing to grace your cheek. It was the sweetest youβd seen him, especially when he anchored his palms to your hips, and his nerves crept in.
βJust, uh, tell meβor, let me know if Iβm doing something you donβt like, okay?β
You tittered, βOkay,β as if you werenβt on the brink of unraveling regardless of skill, or even effort.
Putting faith in the durability of the hard shell encased amps, you leaned back on your hands, lowering to your elbows on the texture plastic, relaxing through the suspense of being on display for someone for the first timeβand in broad daylight, too. Dim bedside lamps and flattering angles could obscure much, but why hide anything when your boyfriend spent the better part of his week biting at the cage of adult responsibilities keeping him from you? Heβs the one who hid the new order of car wax for an excuse to fuck you sloppy in the back of his van. You basked in his reaction.
Eddieβs hands wandered the curves spread on the pedestal before him. One palm cupped your chest where his spit dried to a sheen, teasing your nipple lightly; juxtaposed, the other shaped itself over your waist and hips, clamping on your knee and smoothing his muzzled grip up your thigh. They joined to ruck the hem of your dress higher. But before the reveal, he bent over the slope of your body to cherish the glitters of sweat sparkling across your sternum. The minutes working against your escapade were unforgiving, but he chose to dedicate a few moments to your natural salt as he hooked his fingers under the stretch of your underwear. The cotton stuck to the praise heβd given you thus far, damp and tight, a work of art. Moving them aside, he stayed kissing the curve of your belly.
Intense, hot-blooded throbs of desperation concentrated on the immediate relief of your wet heat being exposed for appreciating. Fingertips caressed into a curl for his knuckles to adore your puffy lips plumped together, tracing up the other side with his thumb, and cresting the short curls at the top. A tortured lurch in your hips followed his touch when he took it away. Not a strong enough man to deprive his girl for long, he allayed you in kiss down your antsy chase, and sat back on his calves, landing his gaze where his fantasies only imagined.
He didnβt do anything for a few seconds.
Sunlight streamed from the window over his shoulder, shining radiance on the glisten made for him.
His lungs emptied in a thin, wispy breath.
Manners vanished when it came to a starving man. Your excited gasp lapsed into a spell of stunned giggles, which shot into an open-mouthed ah! No composure to spare, he dove in, shouldering one of your legs and hooking an arm around to pry your thong out of his way. Fat tongue, longer than you knew, buried between your lips. Insistent mouth framed by your pussy. Jaw slack to lap up his reward. He leaned his entire being into licking inside you, and dragging upwards, mixing your arousal with his spit and swirling it in a heavy circle. A single direct graze, and your chest rose and fell in stuttered bursts, shaking through the beginning of a sweet whimper. A light suckle from him pulling off to swallow the taste, and escaping your throat was a noise capable of convincing him God was real.
Attentive eyes connected over your mound. Big, brown, and pleased. Pupils inundated by curiosity, yet abundantly aware. Respecting you to the highest degree, he edged his fixation, surrounding your swollen clit with his full lips to feel you throb through the contact. βEddieββ Your nipples hardened through the helpless pant of his name at the first true suction. Increasingly mesmerized by the response he earned when he added pressure, he stamped his tongue to his top lip and dropped it to his bottom, adding the sort of strokes that had your hand in his hair. βEddie, youβre gonna make me cum so fast,β you rushed out. The shame in your whisper felt less like shame and more like a compliment when you held the back of his head, and tilted yourself in offering.
In one solid action, you were yanked to the edge of the amp by his grip twisting around your dress, and he looped his arms around your hips to hug you closer still, sealing your gift to his mouth. Muffled whines of gratitude came from his throat, so thankful for the opportunity, eyelashes batting heavily at the privilege of your inner thighs squishing his cheeks. Too beautiful. Could watch it for hours if you had the time.
You stretched out on your five star hotel bed, and closed your eyes, focusing on the articulation of his tongue against your need.
Steady licks devolved into wet kisses sucked between your lips. Pleasure bloomed from the place he persisted, weaving warmth from your stomach to your fingers in his loose curls. You swept his bangs from the beads of sweat plastering them to his forehead, raking them back with your fingernails on his scalp, luxuriating in the connection of your honeyed caress and his moan rumbling against your core.Β βFeels soβso fucking good,β you gushed.
The weight of one of his arms let up. Smooth calluses swept to your knee, rubbing the spanse of your thigh before shaking a handful of your fat, and leaving a sting of his handprint behind. Your body rocked from him shifting under your legs. Bumpy actions led to his mouth withdrawing, and the sounds of him making out with your cunt were replaced by your heartbeat hammering in your ears. He sat up to his knees briefly, and came back to tend to you in a distracted rhythm, clothes rustling in the process. A question formed in your head, but before you could ask it, he latched his pout around your clit, and worked you into a frenzy.
Pressure prodded at your entrance. One finger glided in without trouble. He fucked you with two, then. Two crooked inside, knuckles shoved against the hypersensitive skin running slick with arousal. He strove for a response until your heels dug into his back, and he knew the sensations were linkedβinside and out, mouth and fingers.
Then he took his hand away.
You were left feeling empty when there was nothing to clench around, but his devotion didnβt waver. Your muscles twitched at each immaculate lick, thighs closing in on him, too close to care about whatever else he was doing. You concentrated on yourself, arching into your hands, spoiling yourself with fluttery traces over your nipples, rolling the buds in light pinches at the enthusiasm he had for savoring you. The constant vibrations of satisfaction he hummed on your pussy were enough to have you dripping, and when his big fingers stretched you open again, pumping you full in a few thrusts along the base of nerves which burned your cheeks, the van echoed every indecent soppy smack.
And again, there was a sensation of him curving his fingers deeper than normal before his shoulder dropped, and viscous yearning flowed after the emptiness.
A repetitive soft thumping noise blended to the back of your consciousness.
Eddie committed his sense of self to making you cum. Learning the unambiguous signs of your release, and being the reason they manifested, became his purpose. Sucking ceaselessly, investing the curve of his lips, his agile tongue, his entire mouth to heed the steady motion. Fingers still coated in sticky lewdness, they returned to fuck you too. Your deep breaths turned shallow, stomach seizing on moans and releasing them in trembling gasps. Waves on waves on waves of bliss crested under your hot skin, and your voice went too tight in your throat to not drive him crazy, βEddie, Iβm gonnaβ!β
Groans in the lower octave of a man enjoying himself shaped your release crashing over you.
The intimacy of his tongue on your oversensitive clit was incomparable, sending you into shamelessly grinding on his mouth, huffing out tiny whimpers as your muscles braced around him. Tighter, and tighter, until the tension became too much, and you were shivering for his mercy, riding the last jolts of your climax snug against his nose. βPlease,β you squirmed for less, then when he gave you less, your ankles locked behind his back through the torture of a few more.
Doses of euphoria swam in your veins. Sinking from your high, heaviness blanketed your limbs. Bonelessness seeped from top to bottom. Tingly warmth took over, relaxing you to a state of clarity, flourishing in the scratch of Eddieβs five oβclock shadow on your inner thighs. He let go of your underwear, issuing an apology for where the material cut into your skin with a gentle roam over your hip as both hands left you.
The bend where the underside of your knees draped his shoulders bounced at an impressive speed.
You peered over your curves to sate your curiosities. Eddieβs temple rested on your leg, bangs askew and hair a mess of frizz and curls stuck to the sheen on his neck. Heβd yet to move from his position, laying his head where he could, face angled to admire his work, eyes heavy-lidded past the point of inebriation. Ambient sun decorated the glisten around his mouth. A gleam of drool wet his red lips, flushed darker than his cheeks, which he pressed into a slow swallow over your tender cunt.
His exhale cooled the wetness before his tongue warmed it up.
A sharp hiss jumped into a whine of his name. βSβtoo much,β you strained. A wrecked man, Eddie couldnβt hear you through the pride you afforded him, flirting delicate kisses on your overworked clit, surrendering to the hold you had over him, and reveling in the aftermath of making you cum. Gradually going limp, his nose mashed to your mound, mouth hung open, pushing your orgasm in lazy laps. Another cry, beg, aftershock of his name and the burden of his forehead fell to your hip crease, filling his lungs in uneven drags. The break in sensory overload was appreciated; a sigh of relief.
You sat up and dropped your legs from their mantle, intent on clearing the fuzz from your mind, butβEddieβs elbow rubbed a fierce tempo along your calf. The motion synced with the fast-paced squelch you heard earlier, before it faded to the background along with the soft thump and rustle of clothes. All of it came together in an echo of answers. Straightening up further, you witnessed exactly how worked up he was over your pussy.
Speechless awe overrode your ability to form sentencesΒ
In the gap framed by your thighs, his body shuddered through the fervent strokes focused over his lap. With his coveralls slacked to the tops of his thighs, he cupped his balls over the waistband of his boxers, skin bouncing in his palm, soft grip protecting their load while his other hand worked his length. Clear slick trickled over his knuckles, fingers slipping over the cream gathered at the head and guiding it down. Absolutely candid in his attraction, he fucked his fist using your arousal as lube.
In just a few twists over the blushy needy tip, he pumped the base in effort to make himself last, and peeled his sticky cheek off your thigh, looking up at you. Whiskey eyes awfully honest, awfully clear and round, he said, βYouβre about to make me cum so hard.β In the vocal pause, the wet glide of his palm drove him to the edge, and his tone grew pointed as he went beyond the point of slowing down, βLike, now.β
The reason behind his direness took a moment to register, but when it did, panic flickered through you.
οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½Ohβshitβuh,β you stuttered. He needed a place to cum, and in your post-orgasmic daze you dropped your chin to think of your tits first, but had the wherewithal to decide against the possibility of him misaiming onto your dress. Beside you, the blanket was mostly stuck under the amps, and there wasnβt an extra rag in sight. His tank top was an option, but you thought of a better one. βMy mouth!β you insisted with a gesture. βIβllββ swallow.
Eddie was already to his feet. The van rocked with his heavy boots, wide stance stretching his coveralls tight around his legs, and undershirt pushed up out of the way. He braced one hand on the roof, cushioning his head bent to the metal in order to stand, and resumed his pace. You stuck your tongue out. The immediate pressure of his cock prodded the flat middle. Tasting yourself for the first time, the tang was surprising, but welcomed by the familiar salt leaking from his tip mixing with your spit. Warming up to the blend, you swirled sultry licks on the sensitive underside he avoided, and his tattooed stomach clenched.
Sitting pretty, you knew what he liked and cupped your tits together, gazing up at him with a submissive pinch between your brows. βSo goddamn hot,β he grunted out, jaw clenched as if he were mad, stroking himself faster. His middle finger rammed over your lip on every pass. It might swell. It might bruise. βSoβmmmβfβking hot.β Breaths jagged, his thighs flexed from the buckle in his knees, staggering him a step forward enough to put tension on your gag reflex. You clutched his jumpsuit into your fists. His rough groans shook through his stature. Building cusps of his release stuttered his hand flying over his cock, jerking himself off in bursts as pleasure peaked under his skin. The scrunch of concentration above his nose deepened. His stomach tightened in pulses, pecs jumping with his gasp, βGonna,β and he was spilling into your mouth.
A moan made its way through your throat before it closed in a quick swallow. Tongue out, he trembled as he coated you some more. The first two shots were heavy, the rest followed suit, filling you for another round which you accepted with your lips snug around his fat tip. He doubled over at the achy raw sensation of your cheeks hollowing. Baby, he throbbed into you, flinching, yet giving. Allowed, you polished swirls over the throbbing head, lapping up any remains. You sat there with his clean cock in your mouth, meditating on the line drawn from the tattooed dragon wrapped around the sword pointing at the trail from his navel to the thick patch of curls at his base, which you could only reach when he was going soft, as he was then.
He tucked himself into his boxers after you pulled away, and sank to his knees. The sweat on his forehead merged with yours, oily noses pressed together, eyes hardly open as he trusted you to hold him up. βYou have no idea how long Iβve wanted to do that,β his voice came hoarse with sincerity, anchored by the current of true longing flowing from the depths of his past. βHow much it means to me, making you feel good like you make me feel good.β For Eddie, having proof of the good he could provide for you validated parts of himself he hadn't acknowledged for years. βSorry I made it about myself in the end there. I, uhβhaβI couldnβt help myself when you were getting into it, and saying my name, βnd stuff.β Your bark of laughter encouraged his shy giggle, all bashful and humble.
Kissing his smile, your lips connected on the fated scents of each other after a hot and heavy day at work, and he sighed into palms fitting themselves to his jaw, mouth fixed in a taut smile as he worked through the happiness welling in his throat.
You told him, βMake me cum like that, and you can do whatever you want, Munson.β He snorted at his name, and played with strands of hair over his face, hiding his stupid grin. βIβm serious. Not that I thought youβd be bad or anything, but that was beyond good. Like, really good.β You should stop talking. βAnd it was flattering. Like, hot. It was really hot,β you decided, βknowing you couldnβt stop touching yourselfββ
βStop,β he complained in an embarrassed whine. Unable to take praise outside the heat of the moment, his gaze made friends with the floor while he mumbled about how he was a motivated learner and pulled out all his tricks to impress you, tucking his chin to avoid owning his skill. He dropped the act on a dime. Pointing, an overabundance of pride entered his tone once more, βYou, uhm.. you christened my amp.β
βHuh?β You spread your legs to see. Utter mortification stung your nerves at the sticky stream of arousal, spit, and climax drying down the side of the plastic, wetting his piece of expensive equipment. βOh god, Iβm so sorry! Is it okay? Did I damage itβ?β
βI got it,β he said with a firm hand to your sternum, laying you flat.
The low rumble in his throat drew near. Staying gentle, he parted your slippery split in a deep lick to your inner heat, running his tongue in broad strokes up the extra passion made just for him, quenching his thirst before your lunch break rendezvous was over. An appreciative kiss was bestowed on your clit before he smoothed your underwear into place. He wiped his mouth with the back of his wrist, and helped you up. The amp was left how it was.
Eddie opened his arms, and you understood. Moving slow through the syrup in your limbs, you straddled his lap, settling yourself over his softened cock, sensitive selves brushing through clothes. He reached behind him and popped open the door. Fresh air smacked rivers of sweat, cooling and calming. You melted into the otherβs embrace, bonding in the last moments of your time together.
Sun glanced off the wood paneling, casting a glow on his puffy face. Sleepy eyes, messy hair, unbearably adorable grinβthe type of candid expression showing how honored he was to share the same breath in the limited space between your chests. Lovesick eyes, bed head, face heβd have to wash in the bathroom sink with hand soap. So handsome. You combed the delicate hairs at his nape up into his bun, scratching tingles through his body. The threat of being caught was ignored for one minute longer.
Traces of humor rounded his clipt tone, βI need you next weekend. βKay? I donβt care what we gotta doβif we gotta send Buckley off on some island vacationβI want some real alone time with you.β
βWhat? Is the van not good enough?β
βNo,β he answered your tease with a serious drawl, raising his eyebrows. βThis was just to hold us over until then. I donβt wanna make a habit of this, βcause then this? This is all Iβll think about when Iβm supposed to be, yβknow, working. Fixing shit. Not.. picturing you with your tits out.β Speaking of the distraction, he tugged your shirt down, and you fell into a fit of giggles, snickering against the crook of his neck as you stuffed the hem in your dress, and he crawled the straps up your arms, managing to zip the back up without looking.
Of which your good mood dwindled when you collected yourself. βAw..β
βYeah, itβs kinda worse than I thought itβd be.. Sorry.β
Dirt, motor oil, grime. Streaks, smears, smudges. And plenty of it. The burgundy dress he adored was visibly ruined, and only half way through your clocked-in hours.
You found the silver lining. βGuess Iβll wear black from now on.β
βBlack looks good on you,β he assured. You reared back to assess the damage, and he filled the stretch of his palms with two handfuls of ass, ensuring you didnβt lose balance. Always willing to be of assistance, of course. βOh, and may I say, genius planning on your part with the car wax,β he stressed his admiration of you. βCanβt believe I didnβt think of that myself.β
Not following, you stopped scraping your nail over a patch of dust clinging to your white sleeve. βI thought you hid the car wax?β
βNo..β
The next line was predictable. You would meet eyes, wait a beat, and deliver βThen.. who did?β However, Eddie proved his impulsive thoughts won when devious shadows crowded the hook of his smirk, dimple arising. He opened his mouth, and you knew no good would come from it.
βI didnβt even fuck you, and you already canβt remember where you put theβGah!β He shrieked at your pinch on his nipple, and the van rocked harder with your combined laughter, obnoxious in every organic way.
Casual wasn't an option when you wore this dress. Dialed back lost its meaning one root beer ago. The afternoon delight would live in the fibers of your unspoken language every morning when you looked at each other; coffee, cigarettes, spearmint. Goodbye normal workplace relationship, and good riddance.
~~~
Carl entered the lobby with confusion on his brow. He eyed the CLOSED sign on the door, and shuffled the bottles of wax loaded in his arms to turn it around, almost dropping them in the process. Earsplitting guitar licks and shrill vocals belonging to Iron Maiden beat on the windows to the garage, drawing his attention to the half-dressed mechanic ripping a bite out of his bologna sandwich, and flipping a socket wrench in his hand, head banging along to his music. Carl slid his side-eye away. Questions were not asked on his walk past your desk, merely serving a glance at your forkful of perceptibly congealed squash casserole which hadnβt been microwaved. Better yet, he didnβt address the canvas jacket you wore despite the visible shine dotting your forehead, nor your wheezing breaths as if youβd sat in your chair approximately thirty-nine seconds ago. He continued down the hall in silence.
The hair on your nape stood on end from someoneβs gaze on you. The correct choice would be to ignore it, keep your head down, and finish the expense reports due by the time Robin picked you up. But like a good bitch, you submitted.
Waiting for you was Eddieβs cocky grin. Through the dusty glass pane indulgent curves of mischief edged his eyes into smug little crescents glinting from the secret between your bodies. Boundless amounts of vanity broadened his chest, pecs jumping as he tightened the sleeves of his coveralls tied around his waist. He peacocked in a slow turn to bend over the engine he was working on, shifting from foot to foot and leaning his hands on the car, flexing through the motion to catch swathes of shadows on the swell of his triceps leading to his hardened shoulders, strong back taking shape under his tank top. Mesmerizing. You couldnβt begin to imagine a world where you could keep the dreamy sigh out of your voice when Carlβs bewildered question arose.
βWaitβWere these here the whole time?β Judging by the plastic bounce and cardboard scramble, he had dropped one of the bottles, and when he dropped to his knees to grab it from behind a mop bucket you forgot to empty, he spotted the box of car wax you ordered at the start of the week and misplaced amongst the chaos in the storage closet.
βOh? Were they?β you wondered. Stuffing the casserole in your mouth, the fork tines scraped across your teeth on its way out, chewing with your cheek propped on your fist. Blinking sleepily at the purply blue bruises you left on Eddieβs neck the morning before, you replied from faraway, βWeird. Thought I left them on the shelf.. Maybe the garage is cursed like Hawkins, too.β

On Thursday evening, while leaving work, Jeon Jungkook finds a flashy, bright red Ferrari convertible blocking his car in the parking lot of his office. An office in a building his father owns.Β
Needless to say, he is beyond mad.
"Who the heck even drives a Ferrari in our company?" he barks into the phone, scowling when his secretary gives an exasperated sigh.
"President ma'am interviewed some people today, sir. Maybe it's one of the candidate's cars?"Β
"What kind of a douchy person comes to a job interview in a convertible?" Jungkook is still scowling at the vermillion vehicle when his brain catches up with the rest of the information Haeri imparted. His mouth dropping open, he raises his free hand up in front of his face, as if to stop time. "Hold on β did you say President ma'am?"
"Uh, yes, siβ"
"She interviewed people? Why? What for?" he cuts his secretary off, frowning.
"She is hiring an assistant, sir."
"Whaβwhy does she need an assistant?"
Haeri is quiet for a while. Then she clears her throat. "I would suggest you to not ask her this, sir."
Jungkook sighs. Haeri is always so straightforward with him. Sometimes a bit too straightforward. But sheβs always guiding him around making stupid decisions, and maybe that is why he's had her in his office for nearly two years now. The longest heβs had a secretary ever since he joined the company as the CEO.Β
Thereβs also the fact that Haeri actually has a boyfriend and is immune to all of Jungkookβs charmβ¦ Not that heβs actually tried them on her, per se. Heβs been otherwise occupied in that department for a while. Very happily and proudly so.Β
Clearing his throat, "Yeah, sorry," he grumbles to the girl, turning around to eye the offensive car again. "I'm texting you the license plate number, will you make an announcement on Prez's floor?"
"Sir, Iβ"
"Good. Thanks, Haeri, you're a gem!"
Even as a security guard comes and removes the obstructing vehicle within minutes and Jungkook is free to leave, his mind doesnβt feel settled. At all. He isnβt sure what it is that irks him about you hiring an assistant, but it is something for sure. Maybe he fears youβd pay him even lesser attention at work than the scant amount you do now. Maybe he thinks you wonβt need his help with the integrated Firewall-VPN project anymore. Maybe heβ¦ Well, he isn't sure.
But something about this just usettles him. Which is what has him texting you close to midnight, casually dropping his question without offending you with a βwhyβ just like Haeri instructed him to.
βͺ hey prez βͺ heard youβre hiring an assistant?
Your reply comes exactly ninety-four seconds later. Yes, he counts.
You heard that in the middle of the night?
He bites his lip, rubbing his reddening cheeks against the cold cotton of his pillow in embarrassment, but doesnβt lose hope because youβre still typing.
I have actually already had the interviews today The guy joins tomorrow You wanna drop by with a welcome gift basket? :)
His glare stays fixed on the little, taunting smile for a long while, before it moves to the word βguyβ in your text. Youβve hired a guy assistant.
Jungkook wonders if the bile suddenly roiling in his stomach has any correlation with the explicit images his brain suddenly conjures up of you and a faceless male making out in your office.
God, heβs going insane.
The next morning, Jungkook is barging into Yoongi's office with a frown. "Prez hired an assistant."
Min Yoongi very slowly looks up from his computer screen, gaze wary. "Good morning to you too, Jeon. Iβm doing well, thanks for asking.β
Jungkook ignores the manβs sarcasm and instead drops into one of the couches placed on one side of his office, groaning. βItβs a guy.β
βSo Iβve heard.β
Head whipping up faster than the blink of an eye, Jungkook gapes at your Creative Director. βYou have heard?β
Yoongi gives him a tired look. βMy office is on the same floor as hers, Jeon. I have more than just heard.β
βHave you seen the guy?β he quickly rushes out, wide eyes boring into Yoongiβs disinterested ones.
βMet him. Kidβs jovial and efficient. SheοΏ½οΏ½οΏ½s gonna love him.β
What? Jungkook stalks up to Yoongiβs table with a scowl. βKid?β
βOh, heβs probably older than you.β
βJovial?β
βYeah, always got a smile on his face; not a word out of his mouth without giggles.β
Giggles? Jungkook's pinky finger twitches in irritation because giggling is supposed to be his thing. How dare you.
βAnd he's really freaking efficient too, man." Yoongi continues when Jungkook has stayed quiet for too long. "He's got a typing speed of 96 wpm, can speak five languages, is capable of charming every guest with a grin and some sweet wordsβoh! And heβs quick on his feet! Delivered five coffees on two different floors with the steam still coming out of the cups.β Yoongi has a fond, dreamy look on his face, and if it wasnβt for the wedding band on his finger, Jungkook would have assumed the guy has fallen in love with your new assistant.
Which doesnβt sit well with Jungkook at all. Teeth gritted and fists clenched, he gazes out of the glass doors of Yoongiβs office to yours.Β
You arenβt in, yet. Should he pay your oh-so-wonderful assistant a visit before you are?
Youβd surely have his head if you catch him threatening the dude β not that he plans on it; he just feels like he might β but itβs a risk he is very much willing to take.
And so, over Yoongiβs protests, Jungkook marches out of the guyβs office and, crossing the long corridor, lands at yours.
Thereβs an additional table placed perpendicular to yours within the glass cabin and Jungkook wishes he had laser vision so he could incinerate the damn thing in its place. He looks around the office for the guy of the hour, grunting at the small trinkets he finds adorning the new table.
Who keeps a freaking potted plant on a desk? What if it fell off and died?
Jungkook doubts this guy is as efficient as Yoongi talked about him being. He chokes in the middle of the accompanying scoff, though, because his eyes suddenly locate, well, keys.
Sleek, black, no bigger than a matchbox, with a silver, galloping horse engraved on the obviously custom made leather surface. Keys to a Ferrari. What are the odds?
βMaβam, youβre in earlβohβ¦β
Jungkook twists on heels at the voice, coming face to face with a guy that honestly doesnβt look much older than him despite what Yoongi said. His eyes are wide and lips rounded, brown hair brushed off his forehead to display the perfect arch to his thick eyebrows. He wears a β Jungkook hates to admit β gorgeously tailored dark brown suit that Jungkook knows to be Armani because he just made the same purchase a week back.
The guy, simply put, doesn't look assistant-material at all. He could be on Vogue's cover with those plump lips and shapely eyes of his. Or perhaps pose for swimsuit commercials with that bubble butt. Or walk the ramp for Armani, Patek Philippe or Chanel, given the brands Jungkook can spot on him.
But he isn't in any of those places β he is here, in your office, as your assistant.
βGood morning, sir!β he suddenly exclaims, and hereβs the jollity Yoongi talked about. βYou must be Mr. Jeon, the CEO?β
Jungkook gives him a jilted nod, hating the flawless mannerism the guy displays and the accompanying subconscious twitch his lips give in response, and inches back towards the door. βUm, yeahβ¦ I was just leavingβ¦β
Your assistantβs smile falls and a concerned look overtakes his face. βBut you just got here?β
And something about the innocent pout with which he looks at Jungkook has him rooted to the place. In wonder? Confusion? Shock?
Awe?
He can't freaking tell.
βI can get you some coffee, if youβd like? Everyoneβs been telling me I brew a killer espresso!β He flashes a proud smile while Jungkook just helplessly gapes. βI can also get you some snacks? Sandwiches? Cookies? Ooh, would you like some pastries? Our office canteen has some amazing Danishes, would you like one? Ah, your forehead is all misty. Here!β
Before Jungkook can react, the guy is in his face with a tissue, dabbing the sweat away from Jungkookβs arched eyebrows. His smile is blinding, dear God, Jungkook cannot articulate a single word out of the storming confusion in his head. Since when do men have such pouty lips?Β
When he steps back, he immediately gestures to a couch. βMake yourself comfortable, sir! May I lower the temperature? You still havenβt said what you need.β
Finally, finally able to collect his thoughts, Jungkook releases a long exhale.Β
Who the actual fuck is this guy? A witch? A siren?
Jungkook needs to get out of here and he needs to talk to you.
βUh, no, thank you, none of that. I, um, Iβm good.β Quickly flashing the guy a tight lipped smile, Jungkook slips out of the doors. βI came to see Prez, but she's obviously not here, soβ¦ Iβll β I'llcome back later. Good day.β
Even as Jungkook immediately storms out of the office and rushes to the elevators to hurry back to his own floor, your assistant calls out a very happy sounding, βYou have the best day, sir!β
Well-mannered, fashionable, charming in a very alarming way. Dude literally had him gaping for a whole minute with his head pretty damn empty. Jungkook's head is never empty.
This guy is so weird and⦠dangerous. Where did you find him?
And, in fact, why did he come here?
The guy's obviously rich, given all the brands he wears like second skin, so why the heck does he want to work as your assistant? In the same office as you?
Jungkook roughly swallows as the images he conjured last night make a return to his head β this time, with your assistantβs regrettably very handsome face on the previously faceless guy you were making out with.Β
He wants to punch a wall.
What he does, instead, is shoot off a text to his secretary, telling her he isnβt feeling well and is going back home. And then another one to you, asking you to pay him a visit tonight. And possibly stay the night because he bought some extra alcohol.
He hasnβt, but the first stop he makes after leaving the office will be to pick up some expensive red wine.
Everytime Jungkook pulls out of you, spent and sweaty and satisfied, after the deed is done, he is left in disbelief. Every single time. Is this really happening? Are you really sleeping with him? Do you actually feel attracted to his body?
He is smart enough to not delude himself into thinking there's more to it, but it doesn't matter because whatever there is between you both is enough to astound him every time the two of you have sex.
Right now, as you sit with your back to him, pulling on his t-shirt over your bare frame β Jungkook's mind is caught onto something a little different than his usual daze of disbelief, though.
And even though heβs risking it by questioning the βwhyβ despite his secretaryβs warnings, Jungkook canβt help it when he brings it up. "Soβ¦ Hiring an assistant. Why so suddenly?"
You hum and give a noncommittal shrug. "I can't be in the office all the time. It's high time I hired one, donβt you think?"
Jungkook doesnβt think so. But heβd definitely be dead meat if he said it out loud. βSureβ¦ What tasks will you give him?β
That earns him a confused look from you over your shoulder. βDo you wanna tell me something, Jeon?β
Wide-eyed, he gapes at you. βWhat?β
βDid something happen with Haeri? Is that whyββ
βOh, no,β he exhales, beyond relieved, then shakes his head with a smile when you continue to eye him suspiciously. βI justβ¦ Well. Iβm always making Haeri pick up after me as if sheβs a babysitter and not an office worker, you know? So I thought I could use some tips from youβ¦β
You nod at that, turning back around to pull on your panties, and Jungkook breathes easier. He has sold his lie and youβve bought it. βThatβs actually thoughtful and mature of you. Where was this maturity when you had me running after you, though?β you grumble with a playful glare, and he just laughs.Β
βIt is because of all of that that Iβve finally learnt to be mature, Prez.β
Straightening after having covered your lower half, you inch back on the bed and rest your back against the headboard. βWell. To be fair, he has been running around for tiny errands for the two days heβs been here, so I canβt really lecture you, right now,β you admit. βBut I wanted someone in the office for the meetings-season that is about to arrive as we near the launch, you know? Both you and I will be busy with the project. Poor Yoongi will need all the help he can get.β
Jungkook frowns. βWhy doesnβt Yoongi hire an assistant then?β
You snort at that and gesture to the bottle of wine on the nightstand. βWhyβre you pressed about it? You said you need tips, right?β
βAh, yes, of course. I just want some tips.β Quickly catching his slip, Jungkook pours you a glass and settles next to you, bare, with the covers thrown across his lap for modesty. βSoβ¦ will he be accompanying you to meetings, then? Or fill in for you while youβre busy with other stuff?β
βWell, initially he will shadow me for a week or so. And then when I get busy overseeing the launch event and coordinating with the Lims and other investors, he can switch between locations around the city to ensure everything is in order because Yoongi canβt be doing everything, you know?β You take a sip from your glass of wine and shrug a shoulder. βHeβs our Creative Director, he needs to hold the fort while everyone runs around like headless chickens.β
Jungkook sips at his wine and musters a thin smile. Because yes, it definitely makes sense why you needed to hire an assistant. Speaking of, Yoongi probably needs one as well.Β
Damn, when he used to work as a Software Analyst at a different company, he had no idea the executives of a company had so much to do. It always looks like an easy life looking in from the outside. But as CEO, he has come to learn that if someone in a higher up position makes a mistake, they initiate a dominoesβ fall all the way down.
βYou met him, didnβt you?β
His surprised eyes fly to yours at the question. Youβre looking at him with a smirk, and Jungkookβs heart gives a thump at how sexy you look. Your question, though, throws him off. "Iβ¦ How did youββ
You roll your eyes. βHe told me you came in to see me and then left. I checked in with Haeri and she said you werenβt feeling well.β
Wow. They both snitched on him. Just great.
And now you're looking at him with barely contained laughter as if you know how jealous he feels. Who is he kidding, of course you know how jealous he feels. You always know this kind of stuff, ugh.
βDonβt be getting insecure, Jeon, my assistant will remain only an assistant.β
He doesnβt know why you say that, but he appreciates it all the same. The twinkle in your eyes expresses playful adoration and the way it makes his heart race kinda scares him.
But then you lean in with an exaggerated kissy face to press a wet smooch on his mouth. When you pull away, he looks at you with a slight pout on his lips. You tilt your head to the side with a squint.
"What?"
"It's⦠Why did you pick the Ferrari guy?" Jungkook sounds a little whiny, but he can't help it.
You look at him over the rim of your glass, eyebrows nearing your hairline, amusement spilling from your gaze. "Uh, what's wrong with the Ferrari guy?"
"Nothing, of course, that's not what I meant," he tries to amend with a chuckle, but given the way you narrow your eyes at him before putting your glass away to cross your arms, you probably don't buy it. So he speaks on. "It's just that he doesn't look like an assistant, you know?"
"Iβ¦ donβt actually. What does an assistant look like?"
Are you being purposely difficult or is Jungkook being completely weird? He's not exactly sure how to explain it better, but he's definitely sure that any other way would have been better than what comes out of his mouth next. "I mean, a bit⦠less⦠flirty, I guess?"
"What? What the hell did he do to you?"
He groans at your excited expressions. "Dude had me gaping at him for fifteen minutes while he talked about God knows what, because I couldn't focus on his words! I don't even like men like that!"
You give a loud snort and then break into loud peals of laughter. "Well, Jungkook, maybe you do! Maybe you just haven't had your awakening yet!"
"Not funny," he grunts, even as a humored smile slips on to his face at your loud giggles. "What did you say his name was, again?"
You raise an eyebrow. "I didn't."
He rolls his eyes. "Well, my dear Prez, what is your new assistant's name?"
"Park Jimin." Your smile turns goofy and eyes almost dreamy. "Pretty name for a pretty man. Right?"
He rolls his eyes at your suggestive wink, grumbling as he finishes his glass of wine in a large gulp.
You give a small sigh. "He's a nice guy, give him a chance. Heart of gold, or whatever they say."
Jungkook decides that he, for reasons way beyond his supposed homoerotic awakening, absolutely hates Park Jimin's guts. He's going to convince you to fire him. And soon.

The Feeling Came Late (Iβm Still Glad I Met You)
pairings: grumpy!college student! Harry x fem! sunshine!reader
summary: Harry hates Y/N, it seems like it's been like that forever. He's quick to insult and correct her even when she's right, he's just always been the only one to pick on her no matter what she does. She doesn't understand why it's like this between them or what she did to make him dislike her so much, but what if it's all just a lie?
overall warnings: slow burn, eventual smut, sexual tension, kind of enemies to lovers, angst, alcohol consumption and drug mentions, foul language, Harry is a major asshole in this tbh, heavy on the grumpy x sunshine in this.

Chapter 2: Surprise, Surprise
Harry wakes up to the sound of his phone dinging and he grumbles as he sits up and stretches. He looks around and stops his tired gaze at the small window next to his bed. It's dark with just a hint of sunlight beginning to cut through the glass windows, this is definitely not the scenery he's used to when he awakes from his slumber. Groggily he grabs his phone with one hand and rubs his left eye with the other, turns on the phone and hisses as he squints.Β
He quickly turns the brightness of the screen down to a manageable setting and mumbles under his breath when he sees it's a little past six in the morning.Β
"Who the fuck is awake right now and why are they trying to talk to me. Someone better be fucking dying." The message is from an unknown number, the numbers staring at him tauntingly.Β
///
Unknown: hey. it's y/n. i got your number from principal Oscar. lmk whenever works best for you and i'll do my best to arrange my schedule otherwise! :)
β β βΒ
He grumbles once more about the timing of the text and stares at the screen trying to think of an appropriate response. He could and absolutely wants to just leave her on read and never talk to her again. That seems like the most appropriate since she interrupted his sleep, why is she even up this early? But maybe he should show a sliver of compassion and reply to the text briefly before going back to sleep.Β
He decides on not texting back, simply because all this thinking of replying, responses and times is making his head hurt, so he sets his phone back onto the small wooden table beside his bed and clambers back into the warm cocoon of his blankets. Wrapping himselfΒ in the thick blanket, he sighs blissfully as his head relaxes into the soft cushiony bed. He begins to close his eyes and go back to sleep, the pleasant warm feeling of sleep very quickly approaching him.Β
Just as soon as he gets comfortable and almost falls asleep, his phone dings once more. He grumbles as he throws the blanket off of him and grabs his phone once again. The same numbers teasing him as another text comes through.Β
///
Unknown: this is harry right? i'm so sorry if this isn't!Β
////
He rolls his eyes as he mumbles, his fingers typing away on the keyboard as he sends his response.Β
Harry: Yes, it's me. In case you haven't noticed, it's five in the morning. I was asleep.
///
He gets a response almost immediately, as if she was staying in the chat waiting for a response.
Unknown: yes i know! why are you still sleep? i like to get my day started early!
Harry: Because no one in their right mind is up this early.
Unknown: sorry for waking you! just wanted to see what times and days work best for you. :)
Harry: Give me a couple hours.
Unknown: okay! have a good nap! :)
β β βΒ
He mumbles again as he sets his phone grumpily back on the table, wrapping himself back into his blanket just to find it's not as warm anymore. He mutters under his breath, silently complaining about her up so early and choosing to annoy him so early as well, and to top it off she made him lose the warmth of his blankets. He wraps himself up in the blanket and lays back down, resting his head on the soft pillow as he closes his eyes.Β
Opening his eyes once more a couple hours later, he gets up and stretches once again. The muscles in his back pops smoothly and he groans softly. He gets out of his bed and quickly makes his bed,Β wrinkles sit in the middle of the blanket as he sets his pillow on top, but he canβt bring himself to care. He feels much better after getting another couple hours of sleep.Β
He heads into the bathroom and relieves his bladder, sighing in relief as it empties. Shutting the lid down, he flushes the toilet and heads to the sink so he can wash his hands. After he's finished, he brushes his hair and puts it in a man bun.
Walking over to the small dresser where he keeps his clothes, he opens his needed drawers and pulls out an outfit. Settling on a white Rolling Stones t-shirt and some black skinny jeans, he gets dressed and makes sure he puts on his signature rings. Once he's done with that, he sprays his Tom Ford cologne and grabs his phone, responding to the very few notifications he does have and stares at Y/N's name in his message list.Β
Her simple text stares at him, somehow politely demanding a response from a couple hours ago. He huffs and mutters 'fucks sake' under his breath as he clicks on it and begins to type out his response.
///
Harry: I'm available anytime
///Β
Not too long after, just long enough for him to set his phone in his pocket and slip on his brown Chelsea boots, his phone dings.Β
///
Y/N: okay! um how about tomorrow around 6 at the library?
β β βΒ
Harry laughs dryly at her enthusiasm as he sends a plain thumbs up, the yellow emoji a stark contrast in the very one sided text conversation, and afterwards he heads out the small bedroom in his dorm and heads to the front door. He passes the various pictures of his roommate and his girlfriend and a couple of pictures showcasing his orange kitten, Delilah, in various moments. She was wrapped up in a soft towel from the day Harry brought her home, and other moments where he thought she looked pretty and decided to capture the moment.Β
All the pictures are neatly hung in a long cardboard frame, colorful tacks adding a pop of color to the otherwise boring wall of pictures. The small hallway leads to a basic living room, a simple gray futon sits alongside the cream colored wall with a modern artistic sketch hanging above it, a dark brown bookshelf holding all their movies and the very few books and textbooks they happen to own is placed next to the futon, and a small dresser underneath a decently sized tv.Β
In the corner of the living room area sits a small gray cat bed and Delilah lays there peacefully sleeping in a little ball, her tail twitching occasionally. The ends of Harry's lips begin to curl upwards at the sight as he slowly walks over to the small dresser designated just for her. He silently opens the top drawer and opens the small can containing her food. The smell quickly floods his nose and he grimaces as he walks over to her food bowl and pouring it in there, silently gagging as it squelches into the bowl.Β
He throws away the now empty can in the small trash can and grabs her water bowl walking over to the dresser once again and fills it with a small water bottle sitting in the top drawer. He sets it down beside the food one carefully because he doesn't feel like cleaning up water right now and walks back to the dresser. He opens the second one and grabs a few of her favorite toys and sets them under the coffee table in the living room, allowing her something to do while he's gone and turns on the tv. Quickly pulling up her favorite tv show - Animal Planet - he walks over to her and very gently rubs the top of her head. He coos at her softly to coax the sleepy kitten awake.Β
Delilah stretches and yawns as she opens her eyes, focusing on Harry crouching above her, she lets out a tired but happy meow as she nuzzles her face into Harry's hand.Β
"Good morning, sweet girl. I gotta get to school but you got everything set up for you, just how you like. I love you and I'll be back soon." He says with a small laugh as he gives the small kitten a couple extra pets and gets back up, stretching slightly as he heads to the door, making sure to grab his signature leather jacket from the futon as he opens the door and heads out.Β
β β βΒ
It doesn't take him long to head to the campus thanks to his dorm being a short drive from the campus. He parks his car in an empty space nearest the school and he sits in the car after he turns it off. He watches her as she walks to the bike rack, her long hair flowing gently behind her as she walks due to the wind blowing. She's dressed in an olive green sweater and dark blue Levi pants that flare at the end, she'd pair it with some white Nike Air Forces, a medium sized white tote bag and a matching olive green thin belt, he can see the small shimmer of her jewelry shine when the sun hits it as she ties her bike to the small rack.Β
He turns the key to shut off his car and opens the door, slowly stepping outside the car as he puts on his jacket. He closes the door with a soft slam and locks it, the beep alerting the girl as she turns around, her hair briefly swishing in front of her face as she turns. He watches as she frowns in anticipation of a snarky remark but returns to normal when it doesn't happen. He slowly makes his way to the entrance, purposely avoiding eye contact with her as he grows closer. He hopes she gets the hint to leave him the hell alone, and wants to keep their interactions to an absolute minimum.Β
"Hey!" He hears her voice ring out from behind her but his pace doesn't falter, he actually starts walking just a tad bit faster in an attempt to get inside before she reaches him. He makes it to the top of the steps before he feels a soft hand grip his shoulder and a tug, signaling him to turn around. He slowly turns around, face deadpanned and he takes a deep breath.Β
"What?"Β
"Any place specific you want to meet in the library?" She asks softly and he shakes his head as he turns around swiftly and starts his journey into the school once again. He can feel her presence behind him and his frown begins to form.Β
He chooses to ignore her as they walk, the chatter of the other students in the hall filling their ears as they continue. One of Harry's friends, Alex, walks up to Harry with a big smile as he pays his shoulder and glares at Y/N.Β
"How you doin' Haz?" He asks and Harry's frown only deepens at the unwanted conversation.Β
"Not now Alex." He shakes his head as he heads to his locker. He can hear Alex scoff as he walks away but he can still feel her presence behind him.Β
He scoffs lightly as he gets to his locker, one ringed hand reaching up to twist the little knob to the correct numbers and opens the door. He quickly grabs a textbook and slams it shut and he walks away, leaving a hurt and confused Y/N standing at the locker.Β
β β βΒ
She can't help but frown at Harry's more than usual grumpy behavior as she heads to her own locker, true enough she was the main reason why he's so grumpy but honestly how was she to know heβd still be sleeping? Itβs not her fault that she just loves helping people! She should know better than to assume they'd be friends simply because she's tutoring him, but she assumed they'd at least be better than this. She hoped he would be somewhat tolerable, a very silly thought of hers because when is he ever tolerable? She doesnβt know how it came to be this way. She can remember a time where the two of them were cordial and even dared to say the best of friends, but then something changed and she wishes she knew what it was.
She wishes she could just go back in time and watch the two of them under a microscope to see what went wrong, to figure out why he hates her. She misses him terribly, but thatβs kept locked away in a box of her feelings and emotions never to be seen again alongside her favorite childhood memories.Β
She huffs in frustration when she can't get the lock to open, her combination not seeming to work as she twists and twists. She swears it's the right one, so she tries once more and she's met with once again the lock not opening.Β
"Come on!" She huffs as she stares at the lock intently. Beginning to think that maybe she changed the lock combination, she tries a different sequence of the same numbers and after a couple of tries she finally hears the satisfying click as the lock opens.Β
She quickly grabs the textbooks for her first two classes and shuts it gently as she walks to her first class, her tote bag gently bouncing off her hip as she walks. She just barely makes it to her first class before the teacher closes the door, her hand pushing on the tall wooden door as she cries out 'wait please!' The door opens and she sees the teacher smile softly as he lets her in.Β
"Just in time Y/N, have a seat." He says and she nods silently, with her head down she quietly makes her way over to an empty seat towards the back of the class. Grabbing her notebook and a pen out of her bag, she begins to write down the title of the notes she's gonna be taking and pulls her assignment due from the front of the notebook as well.Β
β β βΒ
Time seems to fly in front of her eyes, the day taking not nearly as long as it usually feels like as she gets released from her last class of the day. With a smile on her face, she plugs her earbuds in her phone as she walks through the halls, stopping briefly to answer any questions from her classmates and to wave goodbye to her teachers.Β
She spots Harry talking to a pretty brunette, one of more popular girls who also happens to be on the cheerleading team she thinks, her lips pulled back into a dazzling smile as she twirls her hair around her finger as she speaks. Hesitantly, she makes her way over and taps him on the shoulder, meekly saying 'excuse me' and she's greeted with a very nasty glare from the girl.Β
"Um, we're talking." The girl says with a frown on her face. Y/N can't help the flush of embarrassment that begins to heat her cheeks up as she looks down.Β
"I'm sorry, I just wanted to remind Harry of the library. It's at six, if you can't make it or gonna be late, just let me know." Y/N's voice comes out quietly as she speaks, her hands subconsciously moving to her front as she begins to play with her fingers.Β
Harry lets out a very unenthusiastic 'uh huh' as his eyes never leave the brunette's and he begins to talk to her once more, completely ignoring the other girl behind him as the brunette smirks and plays with the collar of his t-shirt. When she realizes that he isn't paying attention, she frowns slightly before making her way out of the school building as music plays in her ears.Β
She mumbles curses to Harry under her breath as she unties her bike and sets the cord in her bag. Hopping on her bike, she begins her ride back to her apartment. She smiles as she passes the cars and families out and about, their joy and love radiating off of them making her smile and aw. As she continues biking, she makes a quick stop at her favorite flower shop, propping her bike against the side of the store and she quickly walks in. The smell of all the flowers welcome her warmly as well as the bright smile of the lady standing behind the counter.Β
"Y/N! So good to see you! How've you been?" She asks and Y/N smiles as she walks up to the counter.Β
"Hi Tameka! I'm good, how are you?" Y/N asks and Tameka responds with great enthusiasm as she starts telling the younger girl about her kids and how the store's been getting along.Β
Y/N loves coming to this flower shop because no matter how long she stays away, she's always greeted with a warm welcome, one that reminds her of her mother at a young age. The shop gives her a sense of family no matter what happens, and she's never been more grateful. After Tameka finishes rambling on about her life, she turns her attention to the younger girl as she props her head onto folded manicured hands and flashes her a warm smile.Β
"Here to get the usuals? Anything new to update me on chica?" Y/N shakes her head with a small laugh as she leans on the counter.Β
"Of course, you know I never stray. And no new updates unless you count having to tutor the boy who seems to hate my existence an update." She says and sighs, the thought of having to do so is a big damper on her happiness and a heavy weight on her heart β itβs not that she doesnβt want to tutor him, she just knows that itβll be like pulling teeth with him. Sheβll have to pry answers out of him and will more than likely be the worst tutoring session ever, sheβll be exhausted afterwards.Β
She can't help but to wonder how it'll go, will he be the same as he is in school? Is he gonna spend the whole time mocking her and poking fun (he most definitely will, sheβs sure of it. He wonβt turn down an opportunity to annoy her and get under her skin), or will he be kind and listen to her (maybe in another universe, some alternate reality where theyβre cordial. Sheβs silly to even think this was a suggestion, she should know him by now), asking questions whenever he's confused? Will the session end in a screaming match as he tests her limits or will it be calm as he complies and agrees to her help.Β
As she pays for her flowers, she can't help but to ask herself those questions. She knows wondering won't help determine the outcome of the coming day, but she knows there's only one way to find out.
She makes her way home, her bouquet of flowers sitting neatly in her tote bag as she rides along. She takes pleasure in the feeling of the wind brushing against her skin and flowing through her hair as she pedals along. The sound of people chatting on the sidewalks and the sound of cars whirring by her and honking at others fill her ear and she just smiles. She enjoys the sound of her community while others might say that itβs too loud and thereβs no peace in all of the noise, she says otherwise. She canβt imagine her city in silence, to not listen to the usual sound because itβs all she knows.Β
She makes it home and parks her bike beside her apartment, tying it up and making it inside the building. She heads down the short hall and to her door, unlocking it and walks inside and smiles at the sereneness of her own space. She locks the door behind her and sits down on the couch with her notebook and her favorite pen, thinking of the best way to carry out these sessions with Harry. What would be the best approach and everything to do with it. She wants to make sure that he understands that sheβs not going to allow him to just walk all over her and cheat his way through.Β
She wants to actually help him, not just give him what he wants; she wants to give him what he needs and what he needs is someone to take time out of their day and work with him, cater the worksheets and lessons to how he learns best so he can actually learn the information. She can only hope for the best as she begins to write out a plan for the next few weeks, she just knows that sheβs going to need all the luck dealing with Harry.

What does this:
Mean in the context of skk, 15, stormbringer, and dazai acting like a lovesick puppy.
Well, the first thing I notice is that it's heavily implied that dazai didn't say shit and hasn't in his entire employment at the ada. Everyone talks about the mafia with a certain level of "hey I heard about you because my mom's dad's aunt's best friend's knitting club was talking about you and one of the members' dog's coparent said they saw you at Walmart."
Between akutagawa, higuchi, and now chuuya, it's like they know nothing that might help them with the mafia.
Why wouldnt yosano know though, she used to be mafia? Well that's what I thought at first too. I figured maybe rumors had just spread throughout the mafia in her time there.
But, at the same time, add up these numbers and then tell me if the math is mathing for yosano to know anything about chuuya
Chuuya is 22 and joined when he was 15, meaning he joined 7 years ago. 14 years ago (11 when she finally escaped) means not only would she not have met him, he would've been 11 by the time she left.
Not only that, but she was an 11 year old child-doctor, which means she would've had no contacts in the Mafia and no friends to tell her anything.
And, most damning of all, in 15 phase.02 mori says this when asked about suribachi city.
By the time chuuya was awakened, yosano was already out.
So maybe it's kyouka. But here's the thing: she doesn't seem to know shit outside of her (old) job description. She was in such an information silo that she didn't know what a crepe was. That makes her out of the picture for me, especially considering she was the subordinate of the subordinate of the boss's subordinate.
So that leaves 2 options: word on the street, and dazai.
If I can get information on the second highest ring of your underground murder organization by asking around, your organization is getting shit on by the feds in 4 seconds flat.
So that leaves one option: dazai.
But he doesn't seem to be much of a sharer, so why would he share about mafia things? Well we have precedent for it.
There's this incident, proving he's totally chill with sharing about the mafia. And then, there's something so gay it will make you want to claw your eyes out and join the witness protection program to get away from how single you feel
I wish someone would look at me the way dazai looks at chuuya's corruption form. And he's even bragging about him and how cool and powerful he is.
Regardless, this proves that he does totally talk about chuuya when he's not listening, and that he's not the inscrutable clamshell of a man he pretends to be.
Now: the other implication. Chuuya just assumes dazai was talking about him, meaning this was a pattern in the past. We can see this pattern manifest in the party that dazai tries to throw in 15, as well as the fact that ango knows chuuya in dead apple.
How many times do you think dazai genuinely set up challenges for chuuya back in his mafia days, to the point where upon being recognized, his first thought is "dazai did this."
Just put a ring on it already guys.

General Mills and cheaply bought "dietitians" co-opted the anti-diet movement
I'm on tour with my new, nationally bestselling novel The Bezzle! Catch me in NEXT THURSDAY (Apr 11) in BOSTON with Randall "XKCD" Munroehttps://cockeyed.com/lessons/viagra/viagra.html, then PROVIDENCE, RI (Apr 12), and beyond!
Steve Bannon isn't wrong: for his brand of nihilistic politics to win, all he has to do is "flood the zone with shit," demoralizing people to the point where they no longer even try to learn the truth.
This is really just a more refined, more potent version of the tactical doubt sown by Big Tobacco about whether smoking caused cancer, a playbook later adopted by the fossil fuel industry to sell climate denial. You know Darrell Huff's 1954 classic How To Lie With Statistics? Huff was a Big Tobacco shill (his next book, which wasn't ever published, was How To Lie With Cancer Statistics). His mission wasn't to help you spot statistical malpractice β an actual thing that is an actual problem that you should actually learn to spot. It was to turn you into a nihilist who didn't believe anything could be known:
https://pluralistic.net/2021/01/04/how-to-truth/#harford
Corporations don't need you to believe that their products are beneficial or even non-harmful. They just need you to believe nothing. If you don't know what's true, then why not just do whatever feels good, man? #YOLO!
These bannonfloods of shit are a favored tactic of strongmen and dictators. Their grip on power doesn't depend on their citizens trusting them β it's enough that they trust no one:
http://jonathanstray.com/networked-propaganda-and-counter-propaganda
Bannonflooding is especially beloved of the food industry. Food is essential, monopolized, and incredibly complicated, and many of the most profitable strategies for growing, processing and preparing food are very bad for the people who eat that food. Rather than sacrificing profits, the food industry floods the zone with shit, making it impossible to know what's true, in hopes that we will just eat whatever they're serving:
https://journals.plos.org/plosbiology/article?id=10.1371/journal.pbio.2003460
Now, the "nothing can be known" gambit only works if it's really hard to get at the truth. So it helps that nutrition and diet are very complex subjects, but it helps even more that the nutrition and diet industry are a cesspool of quacks and junk science. This is a "scientific discipline" whose prestigious annual meetings are sponsored (and catered) by McDonald's:
https://www.motherjones.com/environment/2014/05/my-trip-mcdonalds-sponsored-nutritionist-convention/
It's a "science" whose most prominent pitchmen peddle quack nostrums and sue the critics who point out (correctly) that eating foods high in chlorophyll will not "oxygenate your blood" (hint, chlorophyll only makes oxygen in the presence of light, which is notably lacking in your colon):
https://www.badscience.net/2007/02/ms-gillian-mckeith-banned-from-calling-herself-a-doctor/
When the quack-heavy world of nutrition combines with the socially stigmatized world of weight-loss, you get a zone ripe for shitflooding. The majority of Americans are "overweight" (according to a definition that relies on the unscientific idea of BMI) and nearly half of Americans are "obese." These numbers have been climbing steadily since the 1970s, and every diet turns out to be basically bullshit:
https://headgum.com/factually-with-adam-conover/what-does-ozepmic-actually-do-with-dr-dhruv-khullar
Notwithstanding the new blockbuster post-Ozempic drugs, we're been through an unbroken 50-year run of more and more of us being fatter and fatter, even as fat stigma increased. Fat people are treated as weak-willed and fundamentally unhealthy, while the most prominent health-risks of being fat are roundly neglected: the mental health effects of being shamed, and the physical risks of having doctors ignore your health complaints, no matter how serious they sound, and blame them on your weight:
https://maintenancephase.buzzsprout.com/1411126/11968083-glorifying-obesity-and-other-myths-about-fat-people
Fat people and their allies have banded together to address these real, urgent harms. The "body acceptance" movement isn't merely about feeling good in your own skin: it's also about fighting discrimination, demanding medical care (beyond "lose some weight") and warning people away from getting on the diet treadmill, which can lead to dangerous eating disorders and permanent weight gain:
https://www.beacon.org/You-Just-Need-to-Lose-Weight-P1853.aspx
Fat stigma is real. The mental health risks of fat-shaming are real. Eating disorders are real. Discrimination against fat people is real. The fact that these things are real doesn't mean that the food industry can't flood the zone with shit, though. On the contrary: the urgency of these issues, combined with the poor regulation of dietitians, makes the "what should you eat" zone perfect for flooding with endless quantities of highly profitable shit.
Perhaps you've gotten some of this shit on you. Have you found yourself watching a video from a dietitian influencer like Cara Harbstreet, Colleen Christensen or Lauren Smith, promoting "health at any size" with hashtags like #DerailTheShame and #AntiDiet? These were paid campaigns sponsored by General Mills, Pepsi, and other multinational, multibillion-dollar corporations.
Writing for The Examination, Sasha Chavkin, Anjali Tsui, Caitlin Gilbert and Anahad O'Connor describe the way that some of the world's largest and most profitable corporations have hijacked a movement where fat people and their allies fight stigma and shame and used it to peddle the lie that their heavily processed, high-calorie food is good for you:
https://www.theexamination.org/articles/as-obesity-rises-big-food-and-dietitians-push-anti-diet-advice
It's a surreal tale. They describe a speech by Amy Cohn, General Millsβ senior manager for nutrition, to an audience at a dietitian's conference, where Cohn "denounced the media for 'pointing the finger at processed foods' and making consumers feel ashamed of their choices." This is some next-level nihilism: rather than railing against the harmful stigma against fat people, Cohn wants us to fight the stigma against Cocoa Puffs.
This message isn't confined to industry conferences. Dietitians with large Tiktok followings like Cara Harbstreet then carry the message out to the public. In Harbstreet's video promoting Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cocoa Puffs and Trix, she says, "I will always advocate for fearlessly nourishing meals, including cerealβ¦Because everyone deserves to enjoy food without judgment, especially kids":
https://www.tiktok.com/@streetsmart.rd/video/7298403730989436206
Dietitians, nutritionists and the food industry have always had an uncomfortably close relationship, but the industry's shitflooding kicked into high gear when the FDA proposed rules limiting which foods the industry can promote as "healthy." General Mills, Kelloggs and Post have threatened a First Amendment suit against such a regulation, arguing that they have a free speech right to describe manifestly unhealthy food as "healthy."
The anti-diet movement β again, a legitimate movement aimed at fighting the dangerous junk science behind dieting β has been co-opted by the food industry, who are paying dietitian influencers to say things like "all foods have value" while brandishing packages of Twix and Reese's. In their Examination article, the authors profile people who struggled with their weight, then, after encountering the food industry's paid disinformation, believed that "healthy at any size" meant that it would be unhealthy to avoid highly processed, high calorie food. These people gained large amounts of weight, and found their lives constrained and their health severely compromised.
I've been overweight all my life. I went to my first Weight Watchers meeting when I was 12. I come from a family of overweight people with the chronic illnesses often associated with being fat. This is a subject that's always on my mind. I even wrote a whole novel about the promise and peril of a weight-loss miracle:
https://us.macmillan.com/books/9781429969284/makers
I think the anti-diet movement, and its associated ideas like body acceptance and healthy at every size, are enormously positive developments and hugely important. It's because I value these ideas that I'm so disgusted with Big Food and its cynical decision to flood the zone with shit. It's also why I'm so furious with dietitians and nutritionists for failing to self-regulate and become a real profession, the kind that censures and denounces quacks and shills.
I have complicated feelings about Ozempic and its successors, but even if these prove to be effective and safe in the long term, and even if we rein in the rapacious pharma companies so that they no longer sell a $5 product for $1000, I would still want dietary science to clean up its act:
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2816824
I'm not a nihilist. I think we can use science to discover truths β about ourselves and our world. I want to know those truths, and I think they can be known. The only people who benefit from convincing you that the truth is unknowable are the people who want to lie to you.
