New Orleans Film Fest 2024: Documentary Round-Up
Normally, when I scan the New Orleans Film Fest line-up for titles I might be interested in, I rely heavily on the “Narrative Features” filter on their lineup.  This year, I only caught a couple narrative films in-person at the festival: the Zambian funeral drama On Becoming a Guinea Fowl and the Australian stop-motion comedy Memoir of a Snail.  Most of my NOFF selections were filed under the…

For the most momentous matrimony...
...of my dear friends @esteemed-excellency and @captain-francis-dargor, we are gathered here today, on a most omnious day, to unite in an uttermost cursed and defiling union these two nefarious, corrupted souls soul and abomination in unholy matrimony, under the star-carved auspices of the Scarab, so that the water may darken, the heart-flames may churn, and we may soar once more under the glorious loving light of the SUN
I sing to the Gods,
shining in Havens beyond our sight
I sing for those below,
resting in shadow, among the Reeds
The bargain is struck
they ordered it so
Bask now in the glory of lives entwined
as the waters of the River flow
May their hearts bloom with power
and their household fill with riches
Exalted now, they walk together
planting love brings sustenance.
Blessed now, their joy is together,
there is no tomb for the greedy-hearted.
Revel in the moment, let them enjoy
joyfulness is what marks calm water.
And when the face is turned back to you, after a Storm,
there follows peace before your ka,
for it is the ka that loves to listen,
and it is together that you are unstoppable.
Will you not stand together before the Reckoning?

Was reminded that the invention of the telephone was kind of a scandal of not giving credit where it's due, which then immediately reminded me of the same thing happening with the lightbulb. so I went to look up the name of the Black man who was instrumental in the creation of this invention- his name is Lewis Latimer by the way, he created the carbon filaments that incandescent lightbulbs have in them- only to find out HE HELPED ON BELL'S TELEPHONE PATENT TOO

Imagine Hiram Lodge inviting you to his private gym.
Tumblr media
Sequel to: Imagine being Archie Andrews brother and casually admitting to Hiram Lodge that you like watching him work out at the gym.
You would have been a fool to pass up the invitation to work out inside of Hiram’s private gym. He didn’t give out invitations like that lightly - as in your brother, even as Veronica’s sweetheart, hadn’t been invited inside of those doors but you were. You were lead inside by Hiram with confidence, wearing your favorite shorts - the smallest ones that you owned of course, to show off your shapely thighs - and looked around at what was inside.
You noted the main machines - the treadmill, the bowflex, the pelaton bike, the weight rack and the door leading off into what appeared to be a sauna, which you hoped to enjoy before the night was out. But the real star of the show was the fact that every wall was lined with floor to ceiling mirrors. Just by looking in one, you could see how you looked from behind in the reflection. He hadn’t been lying when he said that he could see every angle. He had also said that he liked to watch - that showed in his decorative taste.
“So, y/n,” Hiram said, removing his shirt and tossing it onto a bench, revealing those muscles that didn’t fit his age range at all. He had a body of someone half his age. And his face too - shit, this was a good looking man. You were starting to regret your choice of attire because now it was going to be tough to hide anything. Especially with these mirrors. You could see him from behind too, his back muscles flexing as he picked up his waterbottle. “Where would you like to start?”
You started with a warm up, some stretches in front of the mirror. You felt his gaze upon you. Approving. He looked satisfied and oh, that made you feel a little cocky. You took your own shirt off at that point, wearing very little now except for those shorts and your shoes. Though you felt yourself being watched, you still felt quite comfortable. Like he was appraising you but not judging you. After your warm-up stretches, he coached you through the equipment, showing you how to use it properly and to maximize results. He was a very hands on trainor, and your sweat ended up on each machine that you used, to be wiped up later.
And, as if you had not sweated enough, Hiram invited you into the sauna after your work out was finished, and your legs were feeling shaky from all of the work that you had just put them through. Having seen it when you walked in and hoping to be inside of it, you accepted whole-heartedly. The room was small, which made the heat inside as it was set up with the hot stones, all the more humid and intimate. Hiram, not shy at all, stripped down to the buff and sat comfortably on the only bench. Not wanting to seem rude, you did the same, and sat beside him. Though the steam was rising, it was not yet strong enough to hide anything, so there was no modesty in those couple of moments. You could see everything. And so could he. So it was impossible to hide that there were two prominent body parts that were feeling rather ... tense.
“This is a whole lot better than the public gym,” You admitted, folding your hands behind your head and making yourself comfortable.
Hiram rested his hand on your thigh. It was up higher than would ever be appropriate in a less private setting. It gave you a tingling feeling. Goosebumps despite the heat. “You’re welcome back anytime.”

Meltrek Episodes 1-3 is exactly what your & your child need, for authentic African American history
Source @blackhistorystudies • @mixdgrlprblems GO OFF PEARL!
Pearl, of #TheCrystalGems from #StevenUniverse, teaches us a widely unknown fact and this is perfect to post for #BlackHistoryMonth!
We all were taught that #ThomasEdison invented the lightbulb but that isn't entirely true. A #Black inventor named #LewisHowardLatimer invented the improved incandescent light bulb by inventing a carbon filament. He later invented a method to reduce lightbulbs from breaking during the production process. He invented this while working as an assistant manager for the US Electric Lighting Company, a company owned by a rival of Thomas Edison, Hiram Maxim. Years later, Thomas Edison invited Lewis to work with him.
He also co-patented an improved toilet system for railroad cars called the Water Closet. He also worked with Alexander Graham Bell to make patent drawings for the first telephone! He also developed an "apparatus for cooling and disinfecting" which was the forerunner for the air conditioner. He also pursued a patent on a safety elevator that prevented them from falling out and into the shaft.
Toilets, lightbulbs, telephones, air conditioners, elevators, all very important things that we couldn't live without today! #LewisLatimer is a whole icon and we should know more about him and the reason why is because we live in a society who celebrates White History 24/7. This is a form of #systemicracism, keeping white public figures in the forefront and leaving the true icons behind. The more we know the better!! Thank you Lewis Latimer and Pearl aka @cartoonnetworkofficial for shedding light on this forgotten icon! I found this video on Tumblr, follow me there as well - mixdgrlproblems. 💡🚽 ☎️ 🛗 🏴🇺🇸

World War I was the fault of exactly two people: Charlemagne and Hiram Maxim. In this essay I will...
Eventually bullshit my way into an argument, but I could do it. I'm just not going to because I have things to do. Do check out The Sleepwalkers though, it's a good book. Ditto The Guns of August.

What other things can you say about InRange and Forgotten Weapons that are recent
Lessee... Karl at InRange has been collabing with more people on a variety of topics, like Annette Evans specializing in women's self-defense, for example. He was a guest on Behind the Bastards for the Hiram Maxim episodes, he had a discussion video with Atun-Shei about John Brown, and he and SinistralRifleman are still working on Brutality stuff. I don't know much of anything about his personal life, and frankly do not care. If that's relevant to anyone, I think it's worth remembering that the reason Brownells dropped him and Ian parted ways with him was because he committed the crime of saying trans people are people with rights on arfcom, not because he does things you might consider cringe on his own time.
I think Ian has realized that he might've fucked up by not standing by his onetime friend, as his channel has kinda struggled for new content and he's started trying to create his own Brutality spin-offs and rip-offs. There are only so many Forgotten Weapons worth talking about, after all, and so a lot of his videos lately have been more like Modern Garbage, stuff that was "forgotten" not because it was old, but because it sucked and/or had no market niche like the Coonan and COP .357. The VHS-2/Springfield Hellion getting a new variant is just bog standard "hey guys new version of a gun" video that TFBTV handles. It'd explain part of why he's copyright striking old videos with InRange, if he can publish new videos about the same topics, that'll keep him afloat. The Royal Armouries have kinda started to eat his lunch, not only having constant access to all kinds of old and interesting firearms, but also regularly talking about them in a way relevant to a wider audience by comparing them to their video game representation. They're doing some collaboration videos now, but we'll see how long that lasts if they catch a whiff of that Leviathan Group stink on him.
Also it was a little embarrassing when he tried to fact-check Siege of Jadotville and the Chieftain made a response video that rightly pointed out that sometimes, troops just do things that don't actually make sense because they believe they make sense.

So here is the scientific advancement which might be shown in Ikemen villain and some bit of history
I may have gone overboard because it was fun, so enjoy.
Also if you all think this is a nerd talking you are thinking correct
FIRST AND FOREMOST DINOSAURS SO IT WILLIAM REX THE W - REX, More and more fossils were discovered in 19th century and it was the year of 1842 the term Dinosaur was coined
Charles Darwin the father of evolution published his one of the renowned book 'The Origin Of Species' in 1859. (As a microbiologist this was epic)
Also, In 1866 Gregor Mendel discovered laws of hereditary but it wasn't until 1900 his work accepted
Now again as a microbiology student this makes me very happy, during the years between 1822 - 1895 Louis Pasteur published the Germ theory which proved Germs were the cause of the disease ( Well there were many diseases in victorian era because they believed bathing actually causes more sickness)
Here medicine and surgery made the great advances, and it was also proved Cholera was transmitted by water but they didn't know how. (But it wasn't until 1928 the first antibiotic was discovered)
In 1831 Faradey invented Dynamo.
In the year of 1876 Alexander Graham Bell invented Telephone (It means there would be a scene where MC will call her wink wink)
Safety pins were invented in 1849. And in 1882 Henry Seely invented the very first electric iron
Gas lights were becoming common at houses of well-of people in the 1840s, but by late 1870s working class people had Gaslight at least downstairs they still had to use oil lamps
Gas cookers became common in the 1890s and Joseph swan also invented the Electric light bulb in the year of 1878
Aesthetics were coming to use in surgery first by an American dentist Henry H Morgan in 1849 by using ether. But James Simpson a professor started using chloroform in operations in 1847 (wtf man but cool).
Also another fact, People thought women shouldn't use chloroform during childbirth because childbirth is supposed to be painful but our awesome Queen Victoria said 'Hell nah' in 1853 and who would criticize the queen hence chloroform became a use in childbirth (Men will be men)
Again as biology student this makes me greatly happy, In 1865 Joseph Lister discovered antiseptic surgery.
Cash Register was invented in 1879 and first electric fan was invented in 1886.
19th century was also the time where bicycling was fun. And it was also the time photography became a hobby (hoping a scene in the game where the male leads has MC's photo in his wallet)
In the 19th century many people experimented with machine guns. Hiram Maxim in 1884 invented machine guns and the British army adopted machine guns in 1889
Some Notable historical moments
The matchgirl strike movement took place in 1888 which was lead by Sarah Chapman which was the start to gender equality
In year 1836 slavery was abolished from British Empire but the former slaves were bound as apprentices and they were worked without any pay from their 'owners'.
In 1845 Irish Potato famine began because a disease called potato blight a fungal disease destroyed the crops.
In July of 1848 Public health act was passed, after Cholera outbreak.
1 May 1848 THE GREAT EXHIBITION OPENED FOR THE FIRST TIME. A series of world fair an international exhibition showcasing the achievement of each nation.
In March of 1848 Crimean War began a conflict between Russian Empire and an alliance of French Britain and Ottoman Empire AKA currently Turkish Empire and Sardinian Troops the war came to an end in February 1856 with Treaty of Paris wait part surrender of Russia. Both sides faced a massive death toll as 1.5 millions of soldiers fought and 367,000 soldiers died.
17 November 1869 The opening of the infamous Suez Canal.
2 August 1880 law regarding every child under the age of 10 should have a compulsory education which lead to decrease of child labour and child death.
25 JULY 1889 FOUNDING OF THE WOMEN'S FRANCHISE LEAGUE. Feminism babyyy, Emmeline Pankhrust a women right activist founded this league a political organization that campaigned women should be allowed to vote and which later gave a rise to women suffragatte movements

Hiram Percy Maxim is credited with inventing the first commercially successful firearm silencer in 1902. He invented it because his father Hiram Maxim, went deaf testing his Maxim machine guns Hiram Percy Maxim also invented the motor exhaust silencers using the same technique
