when it comes to writing diluc, i personally think the best thing to keep in mind is that there's a certain duality to his character.

when it comes to actions, he's two sides of one coin. i like to keep in mind that he's rational but also extremely stubborn, he's smart but will be stupidly reckless, he's both law-abiding and law-breaking.

when it comes to dialogues, i see diluc as someone who -despite being eloquent- has a hard time communicating his thoughts. this causes him to be blunt, sarcastic, or brutally honest. but diluc is also kind, and he tries his best to keep that in his words.

I could taste the ash.

Standing in front of the great iron gate, one half open, one half seemingly...melted, I could see the last of the fire last night was finally starting to go out, and the sun was coming up. A few stray flames were all that were left of the ferocious explosion that turned Morgenstern Manor into the sight in front of me.

The long rays of dawn swept over the ruined roof, hitting the glass chandelier almost falling out of the front balcony. The reflected light made me lift my arm and cover my eyes, taking a step into the estate, boots crunching on fallen leaves. I spotted a lone crow sitting on top of the mansion, eyes boring into me. The soft rain ash had no effect on it, nor me. I’d like to imagine it was here for the same thing as me, to grieve for people who perished here. The surrounding trees were charred, bird corpses visible.

The explosion was faster than their wings.

Dragging my eyes away, I took a flower out of my bouquet, a cluster or black flowers lined with silver and blue. I grabbed the lot of them from the nursery on the way here. I put it down in front of one of the burned trees and could’ve sworn the crow nodded at me.

I started walking to the manor entrance, going around an almost pristine fountain displaying the goddess Nyx, thriving in the ash. Strangely, I could still smell the faint jasmine from it.

The tiny stones were crunching against my feet as I made my way to the door, opening it, hearing the creak it always made. I was thankful for the sound, deafening in the quiet around me. The door handle felt smooth under my palm, a contrast to the rough hardness of the hand-carved doors.

The floors inside were made of light shades of marble, and the high ceiling of the entryway used to boast the grand chandelier now blinding visitors outside. The table with the key bowl in front of me had a leg broken, blood dripping down its sides. There was a blob next to it on the floor that vaguely looked like a head with short hair, but for my sanity, and appetite, we’ll deem it a fur bag.

I continued into the first sitting room on the right side and felt more than saw all the flies. One was swatted away from my face and the second one thankfully realized I wasn’t its target. I was willing to bet I knew exactly what it was, but for points mentioned prior, I turned back out into the side hallway, even though I wanted to see what had become of my great aunt’s piano and portrait.

Horrific doesn’t even begin to describe the scene in front of me.

There was debris everywhere and blood was dripping down the walls like a tacky horror movie. Broken glasses, spilled wine and food starting to rot littered the floor. Bile was crawling its way up my throat and I was extremely thankful for my boots, because to get to the first floor so I could successfully ignore all this, I had to cross the hallway to stairway on the other side.

Fortunately for me, the corridor wasn’t too long. I crossed it in no time, passing the grumpy portraits of my family matriarchs. I’m sure I could figure out a curve equation from my great-grandmother’s frown.

Hopping over an abandoned purse, I reached the marble stairs, almost slipping on champagne. Heading upstairs, I reached the east wing, full of my family’s bedrooms. I went into my room, ready for a familiar sight.

What greeted me was so—different, not even the most shadowed corners of my memory could drudge it up.

It was no less than a haunted house.

One of the walls had apparently decided to run away, with one of poles of my four-poster bed it seemed. While they celebrated their freedom, I surveyed the damage.

The vanity mirror was cracked, showing six versions of me and my terror of a room in the background. The wooden doors to the walk-in closet/secret room I had discovered were hanging off their hinges, and the bedsheets were ripped. The only thing still standing was my rifle on the wall, a present from grandma.

The sorrow threatened to choke me, seeing my childhood home like this, but I clutched the bouquet and forced the lump in my throat down. The floor had splintered wood from the furniture, and I once again thanked the gods for my boots.

I clutched my bag to my body, stepped inside the closet, went into the portal that had opened while I was grieving for an old life in my room, and disappeared, never to be seen on Earth again.

I had a sister to raise from the dead.

A.N: this is the only dragon age i’ve ever consumed please don’t get upset about the lore. i don’t know the lore i wasn’t there when it was written

YESSS. okay so

it’s set in the avatar world but like. in the ages before the war and also a little bit to the left bc someone invents metalbending. the previous (fire) avatar died about 20-30 years ago (no one really knows) and because of that there is quite a lot of piracy.

I have a doc with the crew here. still workshopping the characters used for the names bc I don’t want to get that wrong but there you go sjfkgsjks. I also have a doc with the relationships between the crew but there’s an undescribed image in there. as for the crew and its famous bisexuality…yes pretty much everyone is bisexual. the only ones who aren’t are iraluq and nisha (lesbians) and tetsuo (gay). also most are poly- or at least ambiamorous (that’s why the relationship chart is. a little convoluted)

now onto the actual story. it would be told from the perspective of an indentured sailor on a merchant ship, hira. she’s like 27 and grew up as an orphan in the earth kingdom. the ship is out on the middle of the sea when they suddenly get attacked by pirates. hira, who has never been in danger like this before, tries desperately to defend herself—and, for the first time in her life, uses airbending. she gets knocked out by a stray frying pan (the cook’s weapon of choice), and no one thinks about her anymore because well. they’re busy fighting. until, several hours later, she wakes up on the pirate ship. unbeknownst to the pirates too bc they kiiinda accidentally kidnapped her.

she gets found out within minutes, much to everyone’s confusion and embarrassment and anger (at themselves. how do you accidentally kidnap a person.) the only problem is uh. they’re out in the middle of the sea and already several hours away from the merchant ship. hira is stuck with them for the time being.

the captain, taituk, who is my poor little meow meow (strikethrough: my poor little meow meow) really embarrassed and apologetic about the whole ordeal because holy shit I accidentally kidnapped a person, promises her that as soon as they reach land, she can get off the ship. hira, of course, takes this offer. she doesn’t have any family or friends on land or whatever, but it’s better than staying with a bunch of pirates.

on the ship, however, she finds that the crew is…really cool actually. there’s an air nomad girl that isn’t a bender herself but grew up in the temples so she teaches hira how to bend. she gets taught how to fight and defend herself by the really badass warrior women! so when the time comes, she has grown too attached to the crew, and instead of leaving, stays and becomes a pirate too.

(and then, later, for no other reason than that I think it would be really fucking funny, she discovers she’s the avatar. tfw people are hoping for the avatar to put a stop to piracy, but when she finds out her identity, she is, in fact, a pirate.)

tldr: yes queer pirates in the avatar world thank you so much for asking (/gen) and so sorry for rambling and if you read this whole long-ass thing I’m even sorrier

i know there’s ragnvindr!sibling reader, but what abt little sibling alberich!reader? how do you think diluc and kaeya’s fight would impact younger alberich sibling reader and their relationship with each brother?

First of all, I'm a sucker for anything found family 💕 I actually already made two versions of Alberich MC, one is the two-chapter work, Family Roots! (where MC was separated from Kaeya as a child) and another drabble of Pains of being their Sibling + (part 2) (which talks about how their fight affects MC).

This scene comes before Kiyoi's counter-narrative is revealed, so I think some of its profoundness gets lost. This interaction is about so much more than establishing Hira's "orientation" or whatever it is that authors try to do to cut a character open and spill their queerness.

To some extent Kiyoi is protecting himself by trying to clarify this with Hira. (Not to mention he's conflicted about his own returning feelings. There are fucking layers to it.) But it's later revealed that Kiyoi questions the motives of the people around him. He does not think of them as his friends. He describes being around them as "better than being alone."

(And all of this comes before the weight of the complex emotional trauma of stardom - where the anxiety of questioning other people's motives will only further compound.)

What's so raw about this conversation, though, in my mind, is that while Hira keeps a lot of things to himself, when Kiyoi asks him this question he doesn't dance around it at all. He's completely honest. "I don't know." He doesn't flinch. And more importantly he doesn't lie. He looks directly into Kiyoi's eyes as he says, "Only you are special."

Kiyoi asked him for an answer so Hira gives him one. For Kiyoi, this is a unique flavor of loyalty and transparency he's not used to getting from other people. Not only is Hira being honest about his intentions, he's trusting Kiyoi - with a very raw and personal part of himself. (Hira is beyond fearing bullies after a lifetime of them, I'm sure, but he's probably aware that he could be further ostracized for revealing this part of himself to the wrong person. He either trusts Kiyoi to continue to protect him, or his love for Kiyoi supersedes the fear of any consequences that such a love might cost. Or he's a fool. Or maybe it's all of the above.)

Kiyoi's "oh shit" pause kills me. He smiles it off before he says, "Disgusting." He's flattered by Hira's loyalty and trust and devotion, but he doesn't know what he's supposed to do with it. He's not used to receiving this kind of love from someone.
