The Last Thought - Flo_333 - Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling [Archive of Our Own]
“Of course, I wouldn’t spend the past year needlessly pining after you or not shutting up about you to Ron but never actually doing anything about it.”
“No that would be-” She began to say but he cut her off “Insane really.” His voice was low and soft, his eyes still burying into hers and she couldn’t look away.
“Yeah” the word coming out no more than a whisper. Their eyes met and she felt like she might combust.
“And I’m definitely not thinking of kissing you right now.”
“No?” The word came out as a question.
His face was so close to hers, their noses almost grazing.
“I wouldn’t dare.”

In Search of an Oak (Microfic and New Fic!)
2nd June Prompt for @hinnymicrofic: Today (500 words)
This scene preludes my latest fic, which can be found on AO3.
Tumblr media
“Trying to give my brother space?”
She’d found Hermione on the back porch, secluded in the Burrow’s shadow, rocking the swing with one toe on the ground. The chains creaked when she sat.
Finally, the gathering in the garden was dwindling. Maybe some had finally arrived at the idea that her family couldn’t wait for today to end. That her parents needed rest after burying their son.
Hermione’s lip quirked. “I didn’t want to be in the way.”
Ginny examined her, finding the same guilt she’d seen in Lee. It was less frustrating than all the pity. “You know Harry broods alone, not Ron, right? My brothers are pretty social creatures.”
Across the garden, Bill was conjuring a lantern, surrounded by red-haired men at the table from where she’d come.
Hermione smiled wanly in response. “He needs time with family. He’s been around me plenty.”
Ginny swirled and sipped her wine as a lonely chill slipped down her spine— a longing to wrap her arms around herself, hold herself together. It crept in to fill her suspended detachment, born from a unique combination of grief and liquor.
“Sweet of you. Seems like he’d want you around, though. Things are different between you two now, yeah?”
Hermione shrugged and smirked, lifting her glass to drink. Ginny watched her family and guests, plates of hors d'oeuvres and murmured conversations. Her gaze wandered involuntarily to the lone dark-haired figure sat beneath the huge old willow, and Hermione’s followed.
“Is he alright?” The question tumbled out without permission, startling her.
Hermione sighed, raising one halfhearted shoulder.
“What happened out there, Hermione?”
Surely she'd be far from the first to ask. Far from the first who needed to know.
Hermione watched Harry, lips forming a thin line. “I don’t even think I know the whole story,” she finally said. “He’s got a lot on his mind.”
“That’s new.”
The older witch snorted into her glass before giving her an odd look. “I’m sure he would tell you, you know.”
Ginny drank deeply. Bristled at the fear tingeing her voice, incapable of more than a whisper: “We’ve barely exchanged more than five words. He doesn’t want to talk.”
Hermione frowned. “Harry's always been rubbish at this…. he’s probably been trying to give you space. But he still has feelings for you.”
“And what makes you think that?”
Her smile was pained. “It wasn’t easy to keep secrets, Ginny.”
They both jumped as the back door opened and Fleur swept outside, levitating several flasks of pumpkin juice.
“I’m serious,” Hermione pressed with finality as they both rose to assist.
Ginny eyed him again as she collected empty plates, her stomach churning uneasily, firewhisky and wine smudging the edges between her thoughts. Today, her brother was in the ground. Today, they’d all made it past the end of the world. It filled her with the distinct resolve of having nothing to lose.
She refilled her glass, armoring herself, and took the first few steps across the garden.

this is so sweet, i love it
I'll take it
@fluffbruary Day 11 Prompt: Anniversary
She sits at the table outside. Not because it’s that warm outside but because she wants to escape the house for a while. She does that a lot these days and she can only spend so much time of it flying. Everyone inside the house is silent, muted, just dragging through the day. If she sits outside by herself for a while, she can pretend that everything is okay. That Fred didn’t die a little over a week ago.
Harry walks up and sits beside her. He doesn’t speak. He is one of the few people whose silence she tolerates well. More so because his eyes tell her way more than his words could ever cover. He closes his eyes for a moment, his face turning towards the sun to let it warm his face. She looks at him without reservation.
“Do you know what today is?” she asks. It has been on her mind all day, but she was unwilling to address her own thoughts on the matter.
He opens his eyes as he turns to look at her. He takes a deep breath. His face is neutral but his eyes are piercing, overflowing with a mix of emotions. “Yes. If we hadn’t broken up...”
“It would have been our anniversary,” she completes.
“I hate that it isn’t,” he admits as he leans back in the chair.
She turns towards him, curious. He meets her eyes again.
“Didn’t think you were one to play by the rules, Harry,” she says.
His brow furrows ever so slightly. “What do you mean?”
“If we say it is our first anniversary, it is so.” She smiles softly. “Who would dispute it?”
His hand reaches out to hers and she links her pinkie with his between the chairs. “I’d like that... How many years are we aiming for?”
She almost lets out a snort. She stares off into the distance, faking pensiveness. “Oh, I am not bargaining. I want forever. Take it or leave it.” She locks eyes with him again.
He lets go of her pinkie and holds her hand properly, his fingers entwining with hers. One of the corners of his mouth twitches upward. “I’ll take it.”
“I am glad to hear it, I wasn’t going to take you back a second time,” she replies.
His brows furrow deliberately this time. “What do you mean? I thought we had established we were never broken up in the first place.”
“My mistake.”
She leans closer to him and he closes the space. He kisses her softly. Her eyes search his as he leans away again. His eyes are speaking volumes. Her heart mends just a little bit.
They both lean back in their chairs, closing their eyes to catch more sunlight as they keep hold of each other’s hand. It’s silent for a few minutes as they enjoy the warmth and quiet.
“I am sorry I didn’t get you an anniversary gift,” Harry breaks the silence.
She chuckles. “Yes, you did.”
“Did I?” A pause. He chuckles too. “Making the rules, right?”
She hums in confirmation. “Yes. And I really liked it. And you really liked yours too.”

Could you recommend us some of your favorite hinny fics? Love your work btw!
Thank you <3
I would tell you to look at my bookmarks on Ao3 but I'll give you some highlights (I'll keep wips out of this because I never know how to feel about recommending unfinished work):
Gone was any trace of you -- I'm pretty sure I've read this something like a billion times, I can quote it word by word
Come stay for the summer -- this is always such a light fun work to re-read, I'm a big fan of muggle hinny, I really have a soft spot for it
Altered -- the obsession I have for this one-shot, this to me is hinny in its purest form
A Weasley reunion -- some hardcore pining from Harry, and fake dating, what do you want more from life?
Time -- Harry realising he wants children, with Ginny. The specific way in which the realisation is written is something I adore
Summer rain -- this is great, what else there is to say really, it's just great
Sacred new beginnings -- I love how this somehow manages to be a retelling of sixth year despite being a muggle AU with young adults hinny
Orchards -- the author definitely has a higher opinion of the "golden trio" than I have but the way she writes dialogues between Harry and Ginny is perfect, she also does a thing I love which is to make Ginny actually funny. It's one of her main personality traits and yet it's forgotten so often, I think it happens due to some sort of unconscious bias about women not being funny (not native English speakers writers are forgiven though because being funny in a foreign language can be quite hard)
After the leaves have fallen -- this talks about what I call Harry and Ginny's never-ending argument and it's written so beautifully
Everything I am is yours -- I just noticed that on ao3 it's signed as the first chapter of two but it definitely can stand on its own and is a very well done muggle retelling of Harry and Ginny's story
take what I took and give it back to you -- a beautifully written soulmates marks au that doesn't really change Harry and Ginny's story but, as one of the comments says, seems to bring up an existing implied element of the canon one
Already here -- because Hannah's stories that I love the most (they are all great though) are wips, I'll put this one in the hopes that one day she'll decide to turn it into a multi-chapter story (@takearisk-ao3 think about it 👀)
The brilliant dance -- this is so fucking funny and entertaining while also being heartwarming. Fucked up but inevitable/obsessed with each other hinny spending their early 20s being a hot mess is my AU drug
Someone else's life -- finished reading this a few days ago, a very well developed brilliant idea
[I already know the second I post this I'll realise I've forgotten some brilliant work]

the better half
Harry's never brought a girl home, and he's terrified. It doesn't help that his parents technically love her more than him, but that was when they were friends! He insists it was different now since they were dating!
questions and death
James was always a child who had many questions and a streak for trouble. Yet, death never scared him. Well, that was until the risk wasn't his own life.
wip:
find me with yellow roses
just james and ginny being besties; an extended version of my tumblr post :))
unpublished:
I(')D Lost and Found
Ginny had never been so glad to lose something as important as her school ID on her way to campus. Especially when the universe gives it back to her, with a handsome black haired and green eyed man in tow.
before the moment's gone
Harry's not much of a dancer, but who was to deny his girlfriend a dance...ignoring the random room of course.
domino
There wasn't anything Harry wouldn't do for his Godfather, Ginny mused, watching him tend to the slightly disoriented man near the veil. It was over, the death eaters all but ran, following Bellatrix Lestrange out the atrium of the Department of Mysteries. Ginny slid down the wall behind her, crouching to cradle her left arm, feeling the pain spike as the adrenaline within her subside. Oh, but the pain she felt was muted by indescribable fear when she snuck a glance at the corner, spotting a figure apparate in the Ministry, only to lock eyes with the very being that made her life hell. Who knew that her reunion with Tom Riddle would be this soon?

What a World. After many months of not writing, I have returned and started a little something, what it will end up as? Only G(inny)od knows! It's a bit of Hinny fluff, mixed together with a lot of my ramblings and a good sprinkle of yapping. Maybe you'll enjoy. lol Warning it's an AU Quick description Harry finds himself on a somewhat spiritual journey, or to put it simply, a train to a place he hadn't been to before, yet he isn't quite sure what really brought him there. He soon finds the culprit, a culprit with red hair and brown eyes. Bringing him a long overdue reunion with an old friend that might even (probably(definitely)) be more. This Fanfic might not be for everyone, it will eventually, turn into a "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" kind of story, only that Harry and Ginny aren't Special Agents but politicians and diplomats, fighting battles with arguments rather than guns. Draco also plays a big role and his (platonic) relationship with Harry. The Hinny includes: Best friends to lovers, pining, being in denial, and loads of loads of fluff. Read the full first Chapter on: AO3 FFN Here is a little snippet from the First Chapter:
Yet Harry knew it wasn’t her beauty that really drew him in. Partly, of course, but also, not really. What had truly drawn him was her shining personality, her kindness, the rich laughter, the sparkle in those chocolate eyes which just lit up in happiness when someone cracked a particularly good joke. The way she stood up for those she loved, her fierce temper, like a force of nature, unyielding, she could rip you to pieces in an instant if deserved so. A personality to behold.
It was all wildly attractive to him, attractive in a way that had him traveling three hours by train on some wild goose chase across the country.  Even though he was probably chasing himself more than Ginny at that point.  Deep down, he was chasing his own cause for initiative, maybe he had to prove it to himself, that he still had it in him, old Harry could still make his move, dormancy be forsaken.
“I’ve missed you, it’s been like months, it must’ve been what? March? April? The Burrow, Ron’s birthday! Yes, then it was March.”
It had truly been a while, which he knew he was entirely to blame for.
“Yes, I think so.” Ginny looked pensive, seemingly still unsure what to make of the whole situation of him just showing up at her doorstep unannounced, after months of no contact not to mention. He truly couldn’t blame her for that.
“But either way I am happy to see you, I’ve missed you too, at least having someone in my corner who trusts me to take care of myself, with the endless lines of brothers that check up on me as if couldn’t take care of myself just because I don’t have a penis between my legs.”
Harry snorted at that, maybe only to mask the feeling of searing heat that swiftly spread through his body at her declaration of conviction. Was it normal to be this turned on by sheer confidence in oneself? Either way, he was touched by her words, he knew that she knew that he would never doubt her strength. Not many people were as durable, as robust, or simply as powerful as Ginny Weasley was.
“I’d never doubt you’d keep that lot on their feet, matter of factly I always thought they simply respected you too much, which might’ve been the conduit for their brotherly over protection.” He gave her a quick smile, which she reciprocated.
“Oh, they did! Respected- or more like -feared.” She smirked, making those rosy lips look way more kissable than they had any right to be. ...

It seems like an obvious one but maybe you'll surprise us
Bed Sharing + I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On
The Weasley family reunion happens once every twenty-five years and the Burrow is packed full of people. To the point of bursting. Everyone is doubling up in rooms, on the sofa, in tents out in the back garden. That's where most of the youngest generation end up, Harry included.
And he'd just drifted off when he felt the mattress beneath him dip with the weight of another person.
"Budge up--" a soft voice murmurs in the quiet.
"Wha--" Harry slurs. Then he curses as Ginny snuggles deeper beneath his blankets. "What are you doing?"
"Going to sleep," she answers pragmatically. "What are you doing?"
Harry hisses as her fingers slip beneath the hem of his sleep shirt. "Wondering who is going to kill me first when they find you in here: your mum or Ron."
Ginny scoffs and her fingers work in small spirals along the waistband of his pyjamas.
"Ginny-"
"Mmm?"
"Stop."
"Stop what?"
"You know exactly what you're doing."
"Sorry," she sniggers. "Didn't mean to turn you on."

Goodness Sam! You are indeed fucking taylor swift with a glitter pen 😍😍😍
I just woke up in the morning and casually checking my Tumblr and saw your post on my feed. I was like what are the chances? And thought it was an old post.
But as addicted I'm to Selcouth I (once again) thought to reread it and I was reading and reading and it wasn't until three paragraphs did I realise it was a new chapter!! 😆😆
Anyway, the reunion of Hinny was just as great, if not better, like I imagined! 💕💕💕
And we also saw Harry punching Reynolds so the chapter was a whole package! 😌
Love how Sirius and Ron are paranoid but also comforts Harry/Ginny.
Can't wait to see Sirius and Harry meet James in the next chapter!! ❣️❣️
xx 💓
I don’t know about that! Being compared to Taylor is just too big of a compliment. I’m nowhere near that.
I have to admit, I was thinking people would be upset with me about Hinny’s reunion. I thought people would expect sparks and kissing and jumping in head first. But I wanted chaos where everyone is suspicious and Ginny’s fighting the obvious attraction and Harry is all in and Sirius is a nervous wreck.
Harry punching Reynolds was cathartic.
Harry and Sirius do get to meet James next chapter!!!

Hi!! So, as you know, I really love your fics, and I know you've got a few WIPs going right now... Which one(s) are you currently most excited about? (I'm particularly obsessed with your "What If" Romione Kisses fic, myself, atm. 💗) Do you have anything in the works that isn't already published?
Ahhhh I was also planning on sliding into your inbox but you beat me to it 😆
Honestly, I'm obsessed with "What If" Romione Kisses too lol. I love everything about it—how easy it is to write, charting their evolution from cutie patooties to....well, you'll see 😏, that the chaps are short and do no more than what they're supposed to (i.e. provide a snapshot of quintessential Romione for a given year), how sharing every chapter feels like a celebration with you and the other readers. Aaaaand on that note, Year 4 is linked below 🤩
I'm also excited about my other published WIPs, Mine and Let's Go, but very challenged by them atm 😞 The rest of Mine is focused on Hinny; while I'm itching to share that story, I'm not nearly as practiced at writing Hinny as I am writing Romione. And with Let's Go, there's a lot I want to explore regarding feminism, race, and class in early 2000s Britain but I don't have the energy for that research right now. They'll both get done, just have nooo idea when lol.
As for other things in the works (I love this question sm), I have a Yule Ball AU one-shot featuring transmasc Ron for @hptransfest and I'M SO FREAKING EXCITED!! (Posting begins in June.)
I am also working on an unhinged, canon-compliant-but-stretching-it series exploring Romione from first year to their wedding. The first two stories I'll be sharing in this series are Inseparable and Secrets.
Inseparable is a multi-chap focusing on Romione's separations and reunions in years 3, 6, and 7 from a twin flames perspective. I plan to start posting sometime this month once Romione Kisses is over!
Secrets is a Romione wedding one-shot that was inspired by @romione-trope-fest (but didn't end up making the cut because it's wayyyy too intense for Trope Fest LMAO). My plan is to publish when Inseparable is done (hopefully in August).
Thanks so much for this lovely ask 💙💚💛💜

Heyyy just wanted to know your opinion on this coz I feel your analysis of Hinny is the best one I've ever read. Do u feel if one of them dies at some point, the other would move on and go out with other people? Or do you think they would feel like they're replacing the other and might not commit to someone else ever?
Anon, are you determined to prise that Friday feeling out of my hands by making me think about Harry and Ginny’s deaths ☹️
Tumblr media
…jk you know I live for this 🤸🏻‍♀️ thank you so much anon! (important to say that so much of my Hinny analysis comes thinking about and benefiting from other people’s writing and work, so definitely want to acknowledge that)
Honestly I think… no, not after what they went through in the war. There are a few reasons:
- I think that, given the intensity of what Harry and Ginny went through to get to each other after DH, and how close they know they both came to losing the other person, neither person would want to seek out happiness in another long-term romantic relationship. From Ginny’s perspective, one of the things I thought a lot about when writing this meta on the significance of their kiss in DH, is that I think Ginny starts to brace herself to grieve Harry beginning in summer 1997. She does a lot of the work of having to imagine her life without him, as a very young person. Then he does come back. I think we can’t underestimate how much that extreme experience would shape her sense that Harry is it, for her. From Harry’s perspective, he spends all of DH thinking of her as his singular source of comfort and respite from the enormity of his situation. I think once you’ve died thinking of a person, you’d struggle to ever be able to go on a date with someone new. (Imagine explaining that over appetisers. Imagine getting into that over some calamari.)
- I also think they’d struggle to trust new people who don’t share their life experiences. Love is contextual, and our life experiences shape the people we are, and the people we look for. Had the war not happened, maybe Harry and Ginny would be more open to bringing new people into their lives who have different childhoods and life experiences to theirs. But the war did happen, and I think that would drastically limit the number of people both Harry and Gin can relate to and be open with. I suspect Harry and Ginny would spend most of their time in an already insular group of family, ex Order people and the DA who were in the trenches together, so to speak.
- Both have some sense of belief in a form of life after death. (This is most obvious in Harry’s case, given what he goes through in the Forest and after, but see meta above on Ginny, death and the veil). I do think this is quite particular to them as characters, but I think their mutual belief in some kind of afterlife would shape their willingness to entertain building new romantic relationships in this life. They would be holding hope for a reunion, in some way. Both are, by the end the series, two people who are bereaved. They both know that you can’t replace people you’ve lost, and I don’t think their particular ways of coping with loss would lead them to try and fill the void left by the death of the love of their life with a new long-term relationship.
- They have kids very young, and both would struggle with the idea of introducing a new parental figure to their children. Again, I think this is very particular to these two characters, but I think their instinctive protectiveness and tendency towards familial insularity would mean they wouldn’t be looking to bring someone new in to their children’s lives.
- At heart… both are certified lover boys/girls™️. Ginny Weasley is ride or die; Harry Potter is the wife guy of wife guys. These kids are saps (and I say this as a committed sap). I think it would be a bit of a joke among their mates, like how boringly and singularly all for each other Harry and Ginny are. I think it would be widely acknowledged in their circle of friends that Harry and Ginny are not swapping anyone else in if the other kicks the bucket.

About me
I'm a chilean fan that is passionate about the Hinny pairing. In characters that aren't Harry or Ginny I'm very flexible with pairings. My mission is to make the fandom weirder.
My AO3
My fics:
Back in Time to Live a Life: A typical bashfest post-betrayal but with the change that Ron is good and Hermione and Neville are the traitors.
Luna's Harem: A one shot inspired by a reddit prompt.
The Secret Party Passage: A fic made for the Smells Like Teen Spirit fest. Fred and George host a party in a secret passage.
Drabbles for HPfanfiction discord drabble activity: Various drabbles. Some centered on Hinny, others centered in some rare pairs like Dudley/Millicent, Ron/Megan, Pansy/Neville.
Millie the Amazon: A fic written for the Wizarding Olympics fest. Highlights a friendship between Millicent, Dudley, and Tracey.
Fae at Hogsmeade: Fic written for the masquerade ball of the HPfanfiction discord.
The Serpentine Fair Folk: Sequel to Fae at Hogsmeade, following a certain someone learning the Fae culture.
Tonks Finds Her Harpy: A Tonks/Gwenog one shot of them meeting and Ron's wedding.
A Ceremonious Reunion: A fic written for the Romionian masquerade.
Diffindo: Fic written for the Halloween mini-masquerade, is about a date between Hermione and Ernie
That Time I Stepped in the Fae Ring: Fic for the Halloween mini-masquerade, is about Harry meeting certain interesting Fae.

I’m a huge KWTL fan! I started it because of the Hinny tag and now am completely I love with all your characters and seeing Harry’s journey through their eyes.
But my Hinny heart has to know, is there going to be Hinny in the next two chapters? I understand Robards probably won’t be present for their reunion lol, but will we see Harry and/or Ginny talking about their relationship?
The Hinny tag is real, I promise!
However, please be advised, so is the Gen tag…
Tagging relationships in Gen fics is kind of a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation.” Either I’m upsetting people who want more of their favourite ship or I’m upsetting people when the end-game isn’t their OTP.
Hinny is my ship, and I fully intend to give my kids their happy ending. It is important to note, however, that the PoV of KwtL is not changing. Don’t go expecting some romantic love scene involving a bed of rose petals. Harry and Ginny may have their kinks, I dunno, but pretty sure Gawain watching isn’t one of them.
That being said, I do have some good news! To all the steadfast Hinny stans who have been faithfully following KwtL sustained only by the Hinny micro-moments: please stay tuned. Because I do have an upcoming one-shot from Harry’s pov set in the Knowing Universe that will be published separately. This I dedicate especially to you.
Thanks for the Ask, Anon!

An unpopular hinny opinion?
You know what's funny? I have like fifty different takes I could give you, but I'm going to go with something that's been living rent free in my head since I wrote Harry and Ginny's reunion.
.
I believe in the first months after the war, Harry wouldn't be particularly fond of Ginny's friendship with Neville, I believe he would be jealous (not because he would actually have anything to worry about of course). I don't think it's something that would ever become a problem, but if during those months someone had asked Harry if he wanted to hex Neville, he would've waited a second before saying "no".
But this opinion of mine is based on what?
Neville, like Luna, has always been closer to Ginny than Harry, this is not a mystery. I've always found very telling for example how in OotP, Neville and Luna get involved in the Ministry business because of Ginny, in contrast, Ron and Hermione get involved because of Harry. Harry goes because of Sirius, and Ginny underlines how she wants to go because of Sirius. It's a very significant moment that defines the dynamics we'll see again in DH.
Neville's closeness to Ginny is also remarked by Ginny being the one reminding James to say "hi" to Neville in the epilogue.
The thing is though: while Neville and Ginny are friends, they aren't close enough in the first six books to justify Neville being Albus' godfather. So, of course, the experience that would explain Neville being appointed that role is Neville and Ginny's year leading the rebellion at Hogwarts (also in the perspective that an epilogue should be justified by the previously told story). This means that Harry left Ginny and Neville's relationship before the hunt as a good friendship and came back to a much closer bond. From Harry's perspective, it's a bit like it happened in a second. In a way, to him, it's unjustified, and therefore on some level menacing.
Now, this is the premise, but there are other elements.
Neville had already been once a potential love interest for Ginny: when they went to the Yule Ball together. A date for Ginny that was carefully chosen by the author to not trigger any reviling feelings for Ginny in Harry. Neville at the time was someone Harry considered a loser, in no way a potential threat. And yet even back then, Harry's first worry, after he started dancing, was making sure Ginny was having a terrible time with Neville (lol). [I'm not saying Harry was in love with Ginny, but the first two books already establish a subconscious attraction towards Ginny]
After the war though, Neville is a war hero, and someone Harry has already recognised as valuable.
Plus, the idea that Neville was smart enough to ask Ginny to be his date goes to touch one of Harry's great regrets: not having noticed Ginny earlier.
With this am I saying that Harry doubts Ginny's love for him? No.
But the immediate post-war period is a very emotionally fragile one.
The simple fact that Neville and Ginny were involved in a dangerous situation together at Hogwarts is already potentially quite annoying to Harry. Not only is Harry used to being involved in anything dangerous that happens at Hogwarts, and not being part of this one thing would increase a sense of exclusion, but once Harry makes his peace with how in danger Ginny was during the war, the fact that Neville was there to protect her and he wasn't would annoy the hell out of him (he would also be grateful to Neville but that comes later). Harry's one priority in life is Ginny's safety and it's also a way in which he channels his love for her. I know it's a bit of a toxic male take, but I do think realistically Harry would live Neville's ability to be there for Ginny as a sort of "invasion of territory", protecting Ginny is his thing, during the war, it was the only way he had left to love her. The breakup is after all Harry's way of brainwashing himself into thinking that will keep Ginny safe.
Again, Harry would be aware that Ginny doesn't have romantic feelings for Neville, but sometimes a bit of jealousy can't be helped. Harry is possessive of Ginny, not in a toxic way, but let's put it this way: he's definitely on the spectrum's opposite side of a person who would want an open relationship.
I'm also quite sure that Ginny being someone any breathing creature drools after doesn't help to convince Harry Neville does not have feelings for her.
To summarise, the factors that would feed into Harry's jealousy would be a sense of inadequacy and a sense of exclusion from Ginny's life that he already displays in the sixth book. What originally started to trigger Harry's feelings for Ginny was the annoyance of not being a constant part of her life and the worry she was choosing someone else over him after years of subconsciously taking for granted she would never do that (any possible love interest of Ginny is never shown in a good romantic dynamic with Ginny until Dean, until Harry can be jealous because the story is ready for him to be).

And then they left her.
Fred, Bill George, Fleur, Percy, her parents, Lupin. Even Harry had left her, all over again.
They forced a wretched promise from her to wait it out in this blasted room while the lot of them headed out to face You-Know-Who and whatever he had to throw at them. All she could do was sit here and wait, wringing her hands like the helpless heroine in one of her mother’s terrible romance novels.
She slumped down onto one of the sofas and stared, unseeingly, at the familiar stone walls. How long had it been since she’d last sat here? It could only be a few weeks, and yet if felt like a lifetime had passed, sitting helpless at Aunt Muriel’s house.
It seemed to be a theme for her this spring, being forced to wait around doing nothing while the people she loved the very most risked their lives, over and over again. Her time at Hogwarts this year might have been supremely awful, what with the Carrows and the students loyal to them constantly taunting her, and with the threat of the Cruciatus curse hanging over her head every moment of every day, but at least she had been doing something. Standing alongside Luna and Neville, leading Dumbledore’s Army and protecting the younger students had given her purpose. What was her purpose now?
It seemed strange that only a few hours ago, she’d thought all her prayers had been answered, when word arrived via the galleons that she should return - that Harry was there, alive and unharmed. She’d raced to his side, bursting with happiness and picturing their joyful reunion, after all those months apart. It had taken every she’d had not to bolt for Shell Cottage when she learned he was there, and nothing, nothing would have stopped her coming here today.
When she’d stepped into the Room of Requirement, his face had been the first she’d seen, but instead of the tender, loving delight she’d imagined, there had only been horror reflected in those perfect green eyes. Logically, she knew that it only came from his concern about her being here, in the line of fire, but that didn’t mean that it didn’t hurt like hell.
And now he was gone again, with barely a word even uttered to her, taking her entire family with him alongside (it felt like) every one of her hopes and dreams.
Terror suddenly gripped her - they’d gone, all of them. Would she ever see any of them ever again? She suddenly realised she might be alone for the rest of her life, and the thought was crippling. She leaned back on the sofa and drew her legs up to her chest, curling into a tight little ball. Tears pricked at her eyes, but she refused to cry. They’re not gone yet! I won’t believe it!
Hugging her knees, she forced herself to take deep breaths, gulping down great noisy lungs full of air, fighting the rising panic, driving her heart rate down through sheer bloody-minded force of will.
Gradually, she returned to a sitting position, and pulled her wand from her pocket, setting her jaw in a familiar, determined manner. Perhaps there was nothing she could do right now, but she was damn well going to be ready for whatever was coming next, whether it was the chance to make a difference, or simply to receive news, good or bad.
In the silence, all Ginny Weasley could do was wait.
