And sometimes when you're on, you're really fucking on / and your friends they sing along and they love you / but the lows are so extreme, that the good seems fucking cheap / and it teases you for weeks in its absence
But you'll fight and you'll make it through, you'll fake it if you have to / and you'll show up for work with a smile / you'll be better and you'll be smarter and more grown up / and a better daughter (or son) / and a real good friend

Berguru pada Huruf, Sebuah Pendekatan Menulis untuk Pemula
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tidak lazim seperti diketahui adanya pada buku-buku 'how to books'. Read the full article

So, speaking of that girl Tatsuhiko got into a drunken argument with...
Whenever a character discovers that their celebrity crush is the same person as some belligerent weirdo they met the other day (or in any similar plotline), there's always some conflict between the person that character thought the crush was and their first impression of the weirdo. And in this case, the aggressive weirdo wins to a hilarious degree.
Tumblr media
I'd go so far as to say that Nico's past as a singer Tatsuhiko liked is entirely irrelevant to how he thinks of her, to a degree that said backstory detail feels irrelevant. Who cares if he used to like her singing if it doesn't change anything?
But on the bright side, it means that Tatsuhiko quickly develops actual character-motivated reasons to care about her. Ones which feel familiar, since I have recently finished reading the My Dress-Up Darling manga.
Tumblr media
So we've got the blonde popular girly girl and the bland-looking introverted artist whose skills the girl needs to pursue her own artistic ambitions in a tangentially related field, and the artist has Issues resulting from one person making fun of them for their interest in something "weird," but the girl cares strongly about people pursuing their passions and makes this clear.
There are a few differences I note:
It makes more sense that MDUD's Gojo would internalize the idea that his interest in hina dolls is weird. They are "girly" in a way that drawing isn't.
MDUD's Kitagawa displays a wide variety of "weird" interests, from adult visual novels to kids' magical girl anime.
Nico has a very blunt, violent delivery; while it feels less personal to her than Kitagawa talking passionately about passion, it makes her seem like someone who just has no filter and will get heated about just about anything, which is very entertaining.
This conversation also gives the series time to establish some thoughts on the philosophy of art, which feel Thematically Significant to a manga about an animator and a singer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(These are manga panels, so I put the first image on the right, not the left.)
This doesn't seem super deep, but it's still an interesting position to take. "Art is natural, you don't need a reason to make it. If you want to do it, that's reason enough." I hope this is a thesis statement B&M will expand on.
Anyways, the two develop an interesting artistic dynamic, with a personal dynamic that mostly follows it. The fact that Tatsuhiko wants to be as good an animator as Nico is a singer and the fact that they're working on a project together due to mutual professional/artistic respect are the driving forces in their relationship. I don't have much to say about that part.
There's a bit towards the end of the chapter suggesting that Tatsuhiko needs to hide the fact that he's "that wimpy bastard from before," which I have something to say about:
It feels like the setup for a Big Running Secret that will needlessly complicate their relationship at some point. If I'm right about that, it's bad. It's the kind of trope so common that you dread seeing hints of it; their previous meeting is a dumb secret; and we aren't given any reason why Nico would punch him over that (aside from the fact that she was several beers in by the time he got to the point).
A new manga hit Shonen Jump+, and I have some thoughts.
Beat & Motion seems to be part of my favorite niche anime/manga genre: Stories about a fairly specific craft written by someone who knows and cares about it. In this case, the craft is animation. It's not gonna be an Eizouken (since it's manga and not anime), but it could be neat.
But I'm not 100% certain that this is part of that genre, because chapter 1 spends a lot of time getting its protagonist into a particular headspace. He likes drawing and (basic flipbook) animation when he's a kid, then one bad incident drives him away from that, then he gets into a shitty band for a while, it eventually fails, he gets into a drunken argument with a girl, that argument makes him get back into animation, and said animation goes viral on Twitter.
It's lengthy and complicated, but I like it. It characterizes... um... Tatsuhiko pretty strongly in a way that jumping straight into animation probably wouldn't. He seems highly susceptible to preer pressure, jaded by failure, resentful towards people who had easy success, but not so jaded or resentful that he isn't willing to take a risk on his unlikely dreams.
The girl he got into a drunken argument is pretty strongly-characterized, too. She's Nico, a singer who Tatsuhiko has a thing for, though of course he didn't know that when he got into the argument. Tatsuhiko initially got into the band with dreams of marrying Nico (a singer who, I'd like to emphasize, he only knew by her singing voice), and his viral animation lands him a gig animating a music video for her.
This made me think of Bakuman, a specific-craft manga about manga where one of the main characters gets into manga to A. make a series that gets adapted into an anime that his sweetheart can voice the heroine in and B. marry her. There are differences, of course, and most of them are good for B&M. (Erm, maybe not the best acronym.) Nico has an actual personality, for instance, one that makes her clash interestingly with Tatsuhiko instead of just being a perfect little waifu for him.
I can definitely see this romance subplot souring, but it might not, and that puts Nico above any female character Oba's ever written. Nico seems designed to provoke character development in Tatsuhiko, and while we don't know much of what drives her, the reverse feels likely. And I dunno what alloromantics look for in a romance subplot, but mutually spurring character development is one of the big things for me.
Anyways, now for the funniest bit in the entire chapter. Nico shoves Tatsuhiko towards the road, we see a truck barreling forward, and...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...look, if you're familiar with the entire genre of anime/manga/light novels that start with the main character getting hit by Truck-kun after being pushed into traffic by something or another after hitting some new low point in their life, you'd understand why this was hilarious.

Tok Rev, Bajifuyu, Takemichi and Revenge
My take on the thesis of the Tokyo Revengers is that doing anything alone, especially something like revenge is what becomes your ultimate downfall. You need people in your life. Friends. Loved ones. Loneliness is what kills.
I honestly thought that Bajifuyu would be if not another OTP for me, but at least that I would feel very strongly about it being specifically romantic. However, turns out I don't mind neither interpretation of their relationship. (khm, my Captain, why are you in such a hurry to die, haha, GAY).
Why must every ship I ship (even platonically) be so sad.
I'm so fascinated with an idea of grief, and I want to see how Chifuyu will deal with his. He is one of my favorite characters in Tok Revs atm.
SPOILERS FOR THE MANGA:
Takemichi tells Chifuyu the truth in the past. Admittedly, he does it so he could save him, but
I want to talk about:
Takemichi and his character
Chifuyu believing him (!!)
Chifiyu working for 12 years alone without Baji to save/fix Toman. Takemichi really has been doing the same thing, going at it alone, especially since he could no longer go back to the present/future sinxe being arrested there.
By the end of that timeline, Chifuyu is killed, but not before saying his last words of how "deep down, we're the same". And then Takemitchi is saved, but that bitch of all people, whose profile is now very similar to Baji's.
In the fight on Christmas eve, Takemitchi yells will all his might as Hakkai how the thing that hurts the most if loneliness.
Tumblr media
I was rather skeptical of the intensity with which the show gripped me. Or rather, suspicious. The idea of not needing to do everything by yourself at times has a very clear message - it's what gets you killed.
Baji dies, in many ways, because he was trying to catch Kisaki all on his own. Did he feel he could trust his friends? Only Chifuyu was able to understand that Baji didn't turn on Toman. He knows his best friend would never betray them like that.
And then he goes and does the same thing almost.
I want to write a fuller analysis on the effect that Takemitchi has on the people in his life. It appears that he doesn't have much faith in himself, yet he perceivers out of a sense of duty and desire to save Hina. Is it just Hina though?
I also want to talk about the relationship with murder that Takemitchi has, or rather, doesn't have. He even says at some point, that they can't just kill Kisaki. They need to drive him out of Toman. So, why not though? Kisaki's actions led directly to Baji's death, at least Chifuyu should be filled with enough rage to want to murder him.
It's interesting that saving somebody, even the most atrocious person (like Hakkai's older brother) from being killed turns out to be the solution in so many situations.
I will write more when my brain is on.

Okay but 👀👀 The Celeste and Hiro parallel rant drop~ [When you can of course 💕💕]
OKAY so uh thesis statement ahoy: hiro is arguably one of the most similar classmates to celeste, if not the most.
I know i have to start off by saying yes, hiro, considered one of the most stupid charecters ingame by the majority of the fandom, reminds me most of minor mastermind celeste with her elaborate murder plan and act to throw people off their guard.
And while im not gonna go fully into detail on my 4d chess hiro theory/hc/reality cause thats a whole other essay, hiro is shown to (just like celeste) use an act, AND be a really competent liar.
In game, in chap 3, theres a scene where Monokuma is super suspscious of everyone leaving the bathhouse togehter for seemingly no reason, and they've gotta quickly cover for the fact that he doesnt know about alter ego.
Celeste is the one who instantly lies expertly and comes up with the idea of them betting on baths. This scene is used as foreshowing for her being a future killer, and a reminder of what a scarily good liar she is.
BUT shes not the only good liar in this scene. While hina takes some time to get used to the lie and not act super sus,
Tumblr media
Hiro is instantly on board the lie.
Tumblr media
He's the only other shown directly reactinf to her lie, and his reaction is to unflinchingly mirror her without question! Perfect poker face!
And while this little incident might not be enough evidence on its own, it repeats!!! Hiro is the one to always bring makoto to the bathhouse, confidently lying without trouble on two more occasions!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second time he even spells it out for you!!!
Tumblr media
This is a man capable of putting on a smile and lying to your face and the mastermind!! Of putting on an act when needed!! Sound familiar? (Yes, because its what Celeste does ALL THE TIME)
And sure okay, hiros capable of lying! Cool! But are there any more dirrect parallels? Maybe ones pointed out by other charecters in game? YEP
At the end of both their free time events, makoto's final opinions on Celeste and Hiro are eerily similar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Basically, makoto decides he cant ever let his guard down around either of them, and is tentative to even call them friends. Because, as he's learned from talking to them, these are both people willing to lie, cheat and do basically anything to get what they want, and to keep surviving.
These are both people willing to frame others purely for their own benefit and survival, celeste framing hiro himself in chapter 3 and hiro framing toko in chapter 4, and people willing to kill to survive.
Because while celeste planned a double murder to escape, Hiro was ready to kill Sakura at the first sign that his life was in danger. These are people who are hard to trust and find trusting hard.
While I wont go too much in detail cause this rant is already super log whoops, chap 3, especially the final trial, is arguably a competition between Hiro and celeste for who can win the trial while keeping their act up! (Because why i cant go too into detail here, i am convinced at this point that hiro is constantly putting on an act in order to seem less threatening YES I HAVE EVIDENCE)
Celeste chooses to frame him (because hes "stupid" she says, and someone so obviously "stupid" cant bring up good points without easy evidence, right hiro?) , consequently betting her life against his, and her ability to defend herself against his. She puts them in a scenerio where their differences and similarites become apparent and easy to highlight because in the end it is her against him!!
Another really interesting thing about that trial is while Celeste's acts and lies end up imploding in her face, hiro's,,,sort of do as well! His over exaggerated dumb act nearly gets him executed, and he ends up having to break out of it temporarily jn order to point out something key he'd noticed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Yeah byakuya the point is you weren't supposed to know that) He also does use his supposed lack of intelligence as proof he's inocent in that trial, which is arguably,,one of the main reasons he uses it in the first place.
Tumblr media
(Interestingly enough Celeste is also the one who points out this possibilty, implying she thinks he IS capable of that amount of forethought)
This is getting way too long so i have to cut it short for now, but additjonal points I'd be glad to ramble on in a second post include their shared low empathy (very clearly illustrated in how they treat/talk about Alter Ego) AND the fact that they're both shown to change their speech style depending on whats happening and who they're with. (Celeste's obvious accent drop in her final trial breakdown, Hiro dropping a casuel style of speaking when hes alone with makoto and trying to be honest with him, and when he's fully intending to come off as the adult in the room, which he is)
SO TL/DR They're both yasuhiros who are excellent at lying and putting on an act, are shown to be untrustworthy and have trust issues and do whatever it takes to survive, are direct opponents in trial 3, and have ulterior motives for how they act on a daily basis. Simply put, they're playing fools and playing nice! :)

Niragi x OC x Last Boss (Part 1?)
Please tell me why I´ve been spending my time writing this mess and not working on my thesis or my paper about my internship?
If you guys like it I can publish the rest (which is smut). Have fun!
No title
Word count: 1494
tw: gunplay, sexual undertones, death mention, alcohol
(Part 2: https://girlgirlgirlnormal.tumblr.com/post/640141853735436288/niragi-x-oc-x-last-boss-part-2)
Hina was leaning against the bar, sipping her cocktail, as she watched the crowd dancing beside the pool of the Beach.
“Hey, do you want another drink?”, a voice asked from her right sight.
“Thanks, I´m already working on this one”, Hina answered without looking to the man talking to her and raising her glass, to show him that she was not even halfway done with her cocktail.
She had just caught Last Boss staring again.
Since she arrived at the Beach about three weeks ago, she constantly caught him and Niragi staring at her. At first, she did not really bother thinking about it. She looked good. She had great curves and was used at being stared at. Being stared at was where she got her money from in the old world.  She had worked as a Stripper and Escort since she turned 18 and the muscles, she had developed on the dancing pole there had certainly coming in handy in this new world everyone called the borderlands.
She began to be bothered by their looks though. Not because she thought men should change and not look at women like they were merely meat just because they were in a world there everyday was lived by the rules of survival of the fittest. She had worked with men for 6 years. She knew no disaster or apocalypse could change them. She was bothered by their looks because she had learned their reputations. The games made everyone a killer, sooner or later. But these two. They were part of the militants who enjoyed killing. She had heard even more unsettling things about Niragi.
She was sick of being part of a male dominated world. That was the reason she had learned to play her clients. Men loved taking care of poor, weak women. They loved being adored and worshipped. Hina sighed. If she could blow a 60-year-olds cock and make it look like she was having the time of her live, she could do the same with those two. She felt like she had to, if she did not want to end up in the garbage can at the back of the hotel. She heard that that was not only the place traitors went, but also victims of Niragis desire. They had been keeping their hands off her for three weeks, but she caught them staring at her or lounging at the floor there her room more and more often with time.
She had thought about this. It would make being in the borderlands easier if she could wrap them around her finger. They were the only source of danger in the Beach and there known to be great at the games. She could have chosen the Hatter as her target, but she was not sure that that man could save her from the sociopath she was currently smiling at.
She turned to the man, still standing beside her and fished an ice cube out of her cocktail with her fingers.
“Why are you still bothering me?”, she asked, while bringing the ice cube up to her mouth and licking it.
She had seen Niragi than he was threatening people or just having fun. His tongue was always out. So expressive. She knew that mirroring it would lead to his attention peeking.
“You’re a beautiful woman. I thought maybe you would like to spend the night with me.”
Hina laughed, theatrically throwing her head back, so her long, jet-black hair almost reached her ass.
“Good try”, she answered, “But no. You can’t afford me.”
Still laughing, she shook her head and began strutting to the place, there Last Boss and Niragi were sitting, still watching her. They were pretty. Maybe she could sleep her way up in the Beaches hierarchy and be able to go home faster. Maybe the only day that was going to be approaching faster after she tried her luck would be the day, she landed in the garbage can behind the hotel.
She sat down on the lounging couch, right between Niragi and Last Boss. It was one of her tricks. You would not be able to bag a millionaire Sugar Daddy or Escort Client if you did not look like you belonged. She leaned back, as both man sat up.
Last Boss was looking at her, his mouth a bit agape, like always. Niragi had cocked an eyebrow.
“Hey boys”, she smiled, “I’m Hina”
The militants exchanged a look. As soon as she had their attention back, Hinas hand wandered to her necklace sitting in the décolleté of her red bikini, drawing their eyes to her barely covered chest.
“I think we have something in common, the three of us”, she explained them in her sexiest voice.
“Really, what would that be?”, asked Niragi laughing.
“Well, we obviously all enjoy a good drink”, Hina explained toasting them with her cocktail.
Automatically they toasted back, which made her smile. The same tricks always worked.
“The other thing which is way more important is that I think that I´ve seen through you.”
“Really?”, Last Boss asked with mocked interest, tilting his head, “What have you found?”
“That you both want me.”
Hinas answer was simple. The man exchanged another look.
“How is that something we have in common with you?”, Niragi asked, eyebrows cocked, “Are you so in love with yourself that you want yourself.”
This time Hina laughed, “Oh Niragi”, she sighed, putting a hand on his thigh, “I´ve been taking myself every night since I got here”, she placed her other hand on Last Boss´s thigh, “I think its really time that someone else takes me for a change.”
She heard Last Boss gulp and smiled. She knew it. He was a murderer, but the way he stood than he was not killing did not look like the stance of a man who was boiling with self-confidence. It could have been an act, but she had never seen someone act a role so perfectly for so long. Niragi on the other hand was the epitome of cockiness.
“I miss the feeling of being fucked”, she whispered, “I hoped you two would help me.”
“Really?”, Niragi asked again, grabbing his rifle and holding it to her face, “Prove it.”
Even though her heart started racing, she could not say it was the first time she had to do something like that. The stinking rich were never good people. Gun and knife play were things she had done before. Well. She had chosen this. If she would go down sucking on a rifle after surviving 9 games, she would go down sucking a rifle. Licking her lips, she sat up, her hand gently guiding the rifle as she slid down the sofa to the ground and sat up on her knees, between Niragis legs. Again, licking her lips, she established eye contact with Niragi, as she began to lick the rifle tip and slowly put it in her mouth. She was aware that by know, everyone in the pool area had to be watching her. She pushed her ass out and arched her back, to give everyone the best show that she could. She had been doing it for years. Niragi looked a bit unbelieving, but he did not stop staring in her eyes. She was contemplating about deepthroating the rifle, as Last Boss, who had been staring at her with an open mouth touched her shoulder.
“Let us go to my room”, he said, standing up and grabbing his Katana.
Hina smiled to herself. Even if they did not really want to protect her after the night, she was going to give them, everyone here had seen what she was about to do. She could count on the men that had bothered her never talking to her again. She followed the Militants inside, walking past Kuina, who looked at her worriedly, but Hina only smiled back. Given that the tip of Niragis rifle was colored a smudged red, she could only imagine how her lipstick looked like.
As they arrived at Last Boss room Hina entered like she had been there all the time.
“So, you want to be fucked by us?”, Niragi asked, suddenly pinning Hina against the wall beside the door.
“That’s what I said, isn’t it?”, asked Hina, licking her lips again. They would be dry the next day.
She did not feel well, being pressed at the wall, but she kept her smile up. They were the ones who had been staring at her.
“I know that you’ve been wanting me since I got here. I just wonder why you never tried to get me.”
“Because we want you both”, Last Boss replied, “We couldn’t decide who would get you first.”
Hina laughed again, “Well, lets see who will have me first”, she said, lightly pushing off Niragi and wandering over to the bed.
She would do it. She just hoped it was the right choice.

I'm here because I'm a person of ambition.
I'm here because I've got goals that exceed my station in life and the best way for me to go about that is to fling myself endlessly into side-quest after side-quest after side-quest until finally I can find something that I'm good at... which, right now, happens to be, how can I put this... contractual labour?? On behalf of third parties.
Right now, that contractual third-party labour requires me to locate or learn about some of your guest houses? That part was true.
Ummm, and eventually, one day, I would like to have the freedom to travel around from House to House, as I please, under my own power, with as much money as I can possibly have in my purse, and um... be somebody.
So the closer I can get to multiple people from different Houses, the better, and it's kind of a funny coincidence that I'm able to talk to you and have this conversation, because the reality is? I'm nobody! So if you didn't let me walk out of here? Probably nobody would notice for a really, really long time."
"-laughter- Why didn't you say so?"
"Because my companions would've heard all that."
"I like you already."
"I'm glad to be likeable!"
"Pardon my suspicions. Come, have a drink!"
"What'm I toasting to? You're the lady of the House. Sorry. Didn't mean to be rude, that's just how I am."
"Finding something you're good at."
"Well clearly it's not lying my face off to try and get information! Cheers!"

this one’s actually a request I got on the ao3 version of this drabble collection, butch!sak/tomboy!hina coffe shop au! and is this the first coffee shop au I’ve ever done?? I think it might be!
(requests open)
(ao3 mirror)
---
It had been a long morning and Hinata desperately needed caffeine.
She’d had to wake up hellishly early – which might’ve been fine if she hadn’t been up until three in the morning desperately trying to finish her thesis in time for her first class – then spent almost an hour being jerked around by the aggressively indifferent receptionist of her school’s laboratory, before learning that the time she had booked for her vital preliminary experiments, had in fact been given to another student and the next available slot wasn’t until the end of the week. Handily throwing a wrench in her entire year’s calendar that she would be trying to work around for months to come.
And, on top of all that, the heavens had opened up the second she stepped outside, releasing several days’ worth of water all at once, leaving her to trudge home through a downpour, or hang out in the waiting room of the lab until it passed.
With the smirking receptionist, who she was too polite to tell to fuck himself, but who she dearly hoped would suffer several minor inconveniences for the rest of the day.
She chose the cold, wet walk instead.
Perhaps it had been a mistake, she could probably have found an empty classroom to quietly study in for an hour or so if she’d tried, but with her mind only lightly tethered to reality in her current state, it was more likely she would’ve just had a cry-nap instead.
It wouldn’t be the first time, but if a lecturer found her like that again, someone was bound to try and contact her father to inform him of her struggles, and he would wield that knowledge like a sledgehammer against her dreams of a career of her own; one without constant parental oversight and criticism.
She was absolutely not going to let that happen. Right now, however, what mattered most was getting out of the rain.
Squinting against the water running off the hood of her coat, she searched for somewhere – anywhere – that she could duck into and while away the time until her next lecture in a few hours. When she spotted a small café tucked away between a derelict bookstore and a corner shop that proudly called itself ‘Cheap-mart’ she didn’t care how dingy it looked, she just threw open the doors and shook herself off like a dog the second she was inside.
The barista leaning against the counter with his head in his hand glanced up at her; she offered him an awkward smile as she tried to brush down her damp hair. He returned with his own smile, one somehow even more awkward than her own, but straightened up and waved her over.
“Welcome, what can I get for you today?”
She didn’t bother to peruse the blackboards painted up behind him. “Black coffee, thank you.” Definitely not a drink that fit her usual tastes – she was more of a tea person – but she was about five seconds from collapsing on the cold, hard floor and wanted as little diluting the terrible, life-giving substance as possible.
If she’d had a syringe with her, she would have injected it directly into her bloodstream.
“Can I interest you in something to eat?” he asked, voice robotic and smile unnaturally fixed in place. “A sandwich, perhaps even one of our homemade cakes?”
The word ‘cake’ immediately caught her fraying attention and she stared into the glass display to scrutinise the options available with the same keen eye she would use for chemical analysis. It was actually quite impressive how… unappetizing they all looked; sponges were wonky, frosting looked like it had been applied with a slingshot, one was painted in the garish colours of a toddler given free reign of the crayon box and they had apparently all been cut with a chainsaw, she had no other explanation for the crumbling edges and uneven slices.
“I’ll have the coffee and walnut.” She glanced back outside, noting that the storm didn’t look like it would be passing any time soon and she had already skipped breakfast. “Actually, make that two slices.”
Dark eyes blinked at her in pure shock, before the man wordlessly fulfilled her order, only breaking his silence to tell her the cost and exchange cash.
She barely noticed, taking her plate and her cup and her sopping bag, she stumbled to the nearest table and sank down into the wooden chair like it was a plush, feather pillow. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the barista slipping through a door that presumably led to a kitchen; she might’ve found that a bit unprofessional, if it weren’t for the fact that she was literally the only customer in right now.
As she gulped down half of her coffee – grimacing at the taste, but pushing through it regardless – she wondered if the place was always this quiet. Sure, it was a little out of the way and if she hadn’t been looking for somewhere to escape the weather, she probably wouldn’t have noticed it was even there, but it had a stylish interior, wall painted with abstract ink patterns and rustic furniture.
And, when she shoved a generous forkful of cake into her mouth, she had to wonder even more about how a café with such incredible goods had flown so completely under the radar.
She literally closed her eyes and moaned.
Her fatigue was completely forgotten as she eagerly shovelled another mouthful between her lips, then another, and another. She was onto the second slice in about thirty seconds.
“Holy shit, I didn’t actually believe it…”
Hinata glanced up, absolutely no clue who would be disturbing her mid-meal and, even if her mouth hadn’t been full of soft, melting deliciousness, she probably wouldn’t have been able to say anything.
The short, stocky woman, with arms practically bursting out of the sleeves of her chef’s jacket – which presumably had been white at one point, but was now littered with so many stains in basically every conceivable colour that it was basically tie-dye – pulled out the chair opposite her and sat down heavily, crossing her arms on the table and leaning forwards with a slight frown. “Someone actually bought a cake.”
She was still chewing and had to wash down her bite with a generous gulp of coffee, just to respond.
“Huh?”
Very eloquent. Her father would be proud.
“No one buys the cake, we get about fifteen customers a day, I would remember someone buying the cake before-” she jerked a thumb in the direction of the barista leaning boredly against the counter “-Sai was so shocked he immediately came into the kitchen to tell me about it.”
That a customer actually choosing to eat the food on offer was such an anomaly that the chef had to come out of the kitchen, just to see if it was true, was a damning report on the state of their business. “Really?” she asked, looking down at the slice on her plate. “I can’t imagine why, it’s delicious.”
Dark brows narrowed over her green, green eyes. “Are you making fun of me? Did my mother send you here? Are you an EHO?” The woman was standing up now, leaning ever further into her personal space, flour-covered hands steady on either side of the table. With her face only a few inches away, Hinata could pick out individual pores on her nose and several old, faded scars. “I assure you; all my paperwork is up to date,” she said slowly, in such a low, threatening tone that left Hinata less assured than ever before.
She waved her hands in front of her face and backed away as far as the chair would let her. “I don’t’ know what that means and I came here on my own, I just… really like the cake?”
The speed at which the chef’s entire demeanour switched left Hinata feeling a little dizzy. Suddenly her bright eyes were sparkling and she had a wide, toothy grin stretching across her face as she asked, “For real? Even though it looks like absolute dogshit?”
“Well, as long as it tastes good, I don’t think the appearance really matters that much.” A statement easily reinforced by the fact that she was wearing an old, faded hoodie and some leggings she’d technically bought just for the gym, but were so comfortable that they’d wormed their way into her everyday wardrobe anyway.
Also, she was still soaked through and probably looked like a bedraggled cat, but she was trying to ignore that right now.
“Finally, someone who appreciates my genius!” Slapping a hand against the table hard enough to make it rock on its uneven legs, she turned around to shout at her co-worker, “You hear that Sai?”
“As glad as I am to have a satisfied customer, I would point you to the forty-seven other slices of cake that have been consistently rejected by everyone else who’s come in today.” His smile didn’t quite reach his eyes, but Hinata got the feeling that he really was trying his best. “You can’t decorate cakes for shit and no one wants to eat them.”
The scoff and dramatic rolling of eyes suggested that this was a regular argument for these two. “Ignore him, he just thinks that he’s a better artist than me-”
“I am an objectively better artist than you.”
“Anyway-” she displayed a middle finger at him over her shoulder, all while keeping her gaze fixed on Hinata “-I’m really glad you like the cake, I know my presentation’s a bit… rough, but I know what tastes good, just wish more people would give it a chance.”
Hinata had to give a wobbly smile at the woman’s childish pout; ohhh she was in trouble. “You do have a talent for flavour, I must admit,” she said, “I think this is the best coffee cake I’ve ever had.”
“Right? I’ve been playing around with some ideas for new recipes- actually wait here a sec, I’ll go cut you off some samples.” She was charging through the door leading to the kitchen before Hinata could object, but, looking at the rain still hammering down against the windows and taking another bite of beautifully soft cake… she could think of worse ways to spend an afternoon than being fed a selection of baked goods by an incredibly handsome woman with biceps that could probably crush steel.
Maybe she could even come up with an excuse to touch them. Just to satisfy her scientific curiosity.
---
By the time the rain had settled down to a slow drizzle, she had completely forgotten everything that led her to the café in the first place, so distracted was she by chatting to the charmingly exuberant chef – who was called Sakura, she quickly learned.
They had shared several slices of experimental cakes and, while none of them looked very pretty, Hinata had been blow away by the taste each and every time.
If her alarm hadn’t started buzzing insistently, she would’ve happily spent the whole day getting lost in sugar and soft pink hair and distractingly shifting muscles and a boisterous, snorting laugh that had absolutely no right being as cute as she found it. Alas, she still had classes that she could not afford to skip and she really shouldn’t keep Sakura from her work for any longer. Even if she didn’t seem to have much to do.
As she gathered her things and pulled on her coat, she glanced down at the woman with a soft smile. “Thank you for all the wonderful food, and conversation.” She rummaged through her bag and drew out her wallet, dropping a few notes in the tip jar as she passed. One benefit to coming from a wealthy family, she afford to be very generous.
Sai grinned at her, slapping a hand over Sakura’s mouth before she could object to the payment – and judging from the look in her bright eyes, that was almost certainly what she was planning.
Rolling her eyes as she pushed his hand away, she leaned over the counter to grin widely at Hinata. “Please, come again!”
“Yes, and bring friends with you next time, as you can see, we’re pretty desperate for business.”
“Idiot, don’t tell that to the customers!” Sakura yelled, slapping a hand to her forehead hard enough to leave a red mark there.
He gave her a Look. “It’s advertising.”
“No, it’s desperation, you better not have been telling that to everyone who comes in here.”
“Are we not desperate?” He asked, voice completely even and reasonable. “Do I have to show you our account books again? Maybe you should focus on trying to find a cake decorating course, before you start criticising me.”
Hinata laughed softly to herself, but not quietly enough that she didn’t catch the attention of both workers. She smiled at the pair, marvelling at their bizarre friendship that she wouldn’t mind seeing a bit more of. “I’ll tell everyone I know that the food here is delicious and they need to come try it-” she glanced at Sakura, who was almost glowing at the compliment, and had to duck her head to hide her blush “-and I live pretty close by, I’m sure I’ll be coming in here a lot more too.”
Before she could rush out of the doors, a voice called out to her, “Hey, what’s your favourite kind of cake? I wanna make it for the next time you come here.”
She stopped and had to take several calming breaths before turning around. “Anything with cinnamon,” she said, not wanting to give herself too much hope, but unable to deny the rush of excitement fizzing through her veins at the thought of spending more time – much more time – with the wonderful, strange, charming baker.
Sakura nodded, eyes already sparking with ideas. “Alright, I’ll make you something amazing, you better come back to taste it soon!”
“I will,” she said, stepping out into the damp afternoon, feeling lighter than air and ready to take on the whole world.

this is the most obvious but komahina (if you’re not bored of answering questions about them)
Listen, I’m always, always up to talk about Koma/hina. If anything, I’m worried I’ll end up boring my followers if I keep repeating the same stuff like an old lady.
Koma/hina
when I started shipping it if I did :
Okay, after playing dr1 I came and scooped the fanfic pool on ao3, and I was surprised to see how popular Koma/hina was, so it kinda… made me interested in it just to see what’s the deal is about. Even before knowing anything about the characters, mind you. While playing sdr2, I wasn’t super-focused on ships at all but I really, really loved Komaeda and kinda focused on him - without necessarily shipping him with Hinata at first.
It’s really when I focused more on Hinata, and started to appreciate his developement and arc, that I realized how much sense this ship made for me. You could say that my love for Koma/hina developped along my love for Hajime Hinata.
my thoughts :
‘My thoughts’, as if I couldn’t write a damn thesis about them in sdr2. *Sigh*. They are just… two amazing, amazing characters, who were lucky ( heh ) enough to find each other, and what else could I want to ? They are flawed, complicated, interesting characters, who happen to be a perfect match. They are the definition of Hope.
What makes me happy about them :
Look how much they’ve grown, look how far they’ve come ! Look how much they change each other, and pushed each other to be better people, and look how they are still holding on after everything they’ve went through ! Everything that makes me sad about them actually makes me happy when you see that they managed to live through it, okay.
They are so strong and inspiring.
What makes me sad about them :
They lost so many years of their life drowning under society pressure, or untreated trauma… and then after that, they caused so much harm around them, and will carry this guilt forever. Even if they ever get as happy as they can, their tragedies aren’t something they can erase just like that.
things done in fanfic that annoys me :
Anything that is strongly OOC annoys me because… I want to read about Hajime and Nagito, not some different characters that happen to wear their name. I also dislike when Hajime is just given… all of Nagito’s trauma to carry on his shoulder. Hajime isn’t Nagito’s nurse, and doesn’t have to make his life revolve around Nagito when he has his own stuff to deal with.
Hajime is - canonically - a good person, and I think it’s fine if he cares about Nagito’s well-being. But a) I can’t see him entering a relationship with someone who is too taxing on an emotional level ( and, honestly, good for him ) b) caring doesn’t mean that he lacks a backbone. Hajime isn’t Mikan, okay ? If Nagito is being an asshole, he isn’t going to lie down and take it.
Not sure if I’m explaining myself well, but fics where Hajime is just a tool to make Nagito happy is not my thing.
things I look for in fanfic:
I’m a simple girl with simple needs. Mutual pining, angst with an happy ending. I love post-canon fics because it really interests me to see everyone’s take on that, but I’m down for a good Fake Dating AU or Coffee Shop AU too. As long as they are hopeless and dorky, and that their relationship isn’t portrayed as toxic, I’m sold.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
Mostly someone outside of the sdr2 group. Especially in Komaeda’s case, to be honest. For Hajime, I could see him having a good relationship with Mahiru or Sonia. But ‘ending up’ is such loaded question… they are both so young, let them live, haha. They technically don’t even have to end up with anyone.
My happily ever after for them:
Komaeda gets therapy and support. Hinata travels the world to help people to recover from the tragedy and becomes a leader without FF’s help, and finally finds his place. They found each other again and discover each other again, and start dating just because they are young, and they can. They heal peacefully.
who is the big spoon/little spoon:
They don’t sleep that much in the other’s arms - too hot and uncomfortable - but if they are just watching a movie/quietly hanging out, then Hajime is the big spoon most of the time.
what is their favorite non-sexual activity:
They watch these weird supernatural/ghost-seeking documentaries on Netflix or else. They both claim it’s bullshit, and often mock the investigators on screen, but they’ll still watch it and get super invested, mind you.
