Pairing: Tenya Iida x Hika the OC

“What?” Hika breathes as heat floods their cheeks, as their stomach falls and dread fills the pit it leaves.

“I’m so sorry,” Tenya says for what feels like the millionth time. “I’m so sorry. I’m ending this relationship.”

Every possible feeling floods Hika at once. Devastation. Frustration. Sadness. Anxiety. Their eyes brim with tears, and rage spikes in their blood when Tenya won’t meet their gaze.

He’s ripping their heart out and won’t even look.

“Why?” Hika asks, hand closing around Tenya’s wrist, “Fucking look at me,” they snarl through wobbly lips. “You took everything, the least you can do is fucking look at me.”

Tears stream down their cheeks now and Hika’s heart pounds painfully against their ribs like it’s trying to escape.

Tenya, to Hika’s fury, keeps his eyes averted, swallows hard around his own clenched jaw. He enclosed his hand around Hika’s- once so comforting and warm, now feeling alien in the detached way he removes Hika’s hand from his body.

“I’m sorry,” Tenya says. “It just isn’t working out.”

Desperately, Hika steps closer as Tenya steps away. Open sobs fall from Hika’s mouth, making Tenya wince with every one he hears.

“I don’t know what that means,” Hika cries, hands reaching for Tenya only to be blocked once again. “I don’t understand what you mean!” They try to breathe as their desperation flips to bargaining. “Whatever it is, please just tell me. I’ll change. I can fix it if you just tell me-“

“You can’t.”

The finality in Tenya’s voice, the coldness of it, cuts through Hika’s sobbing like a knife and suddenly it’s quiet.

“I could, if-“ their weak voice is pitiful, and it makes Tenya want to disintegrate.

“No.”

Tenya steps back, eyes still trained on a spot above Hika’s head. His eyes have never looked so vacant.

“I am so sorry you’re hurt. This relationship is over. I will fondly remember the time we had together.”

And then he’s gone, and the raw edges of his absence swallow Hika whole.

There stands a kingdom of frost, one that holds little power. It’s an old kingdom, yes, but strong and wise. In this kingdom stands a city - one almost as old as the land itself - called Blizmoor. Despite its age, the city stays full of life. A melting pot of culture. A place where elves, fairies, dragon-kin, orcs and everything in between will be left to mingle. Bright winter lights shimmer through snow flakes, music, laughter and conversation mix. A familiar smell of peppermint and cinder wafts through the air. A warmth in the cold.

Away from the center, sits a boy. He hides in a gray and red coat, scribbling away in a journal. Focus rests behind a red mask. The brisk air leaves his hands pink. He looks up as a familiar voice fills the air around him.

“Jules, I swear you’re going to marry that thing one of these days,” a girl pushes a blonde curl out of icey eyes.

“I’m just trying to keep track of things,” he retaliates, dotting a period.

She takes a sip from a to-go cup, “Oh, really? Then, where’s Doran?”

A pause catches between them both. The boy looks around, frantic.

“Wasn’t he with you?” He asked, concern and worry filling his tone.

She shook her head and took another sip of her drink. “Thought they were with you?”

Julian stared at his sister with contempt. She gazed back.

“They’re handing out berry cakes!” a cheerful voice cut the staring match.

Julian looked away from his sister, eyes softening once hitting his younger sibling, “Dori, you can’t just run off like that.”

Doran smiled back and took a bite out of his cake. He apologized through a mouthful.

The three sat for a moment, Cecil sipping her drink, Doran eating their cake and Julian finishing his journal entry.

When enough time passed, Julian tucked his pens away in a black bag and Cecil threw her cup away.

She looked at the two others and asked, “Ready to head home?”

Julian and Doran both offered their own forms of yes.

With the youngest tucked safely under his brother’s arms, the three headed home.

Her name is Nguyễn Selena, and her Vietnamese name is Nguyễn Nguyệt Vân Liên. Her Viet name, Liên, means "lotus" in Sino-Viet 🪷

She is a Viet NB assassin with a calm and aloof personality, who's reserved and mainly keeps to herself, but cheerful around people she's close to. Her design is NB flag colours 💜🖤🤍💛

She has an interest in gardening (collecting flowers, plants, learning about different types of poisons), and fashion (collecting clothes, including traditional clothes) 💐👗

The round lines and shapes... OMGGG ✨ I love the colours too!

I love how Hika drew Selena's eyelashes and underlashes with the dots...

I asked Hika to draw TYL Xanxus' design since I felt like his TYL (Ten Years Later) design would be easier to draw.

Hika originally chose a dark blue BG colour for the both of them, but changed it to yellow and red respectively to make them stand out more!

The blue ones were nice, but omg the final versions Hika went with, do reflect their actual colours better. These fit them better! Matching eye colors (plus it makes their hair stand out from the BG more)

Since Selena and Xanxus are toned with blue/purple in Hika's colours, the new BGs have more visual contrast!

Hika was very accommodating with minor colour edits and revisions as well! 🙏

I wanna commission Hika to draw JuAli and IdaTatsu with my headcanon designs of them in the future 🥰💘✨

I feel like the KHR ani style goes for a much more generic art style, compared to Amano's unique art style.

For Xanxus' late manga design (Rainbow arc Xanxus), Amano improves the shape of his hair and makes it more wavy and easier to draw.

Amano has an amazing art style, and really detailed lineart and inking. She's one of the biggest inspirations for me. Her style was honestly very inspirational for me...

I started drawing everyday as a kid (at 11) BECAUSE of KHR, so KHR is very important and personal to me. I first watched KHR and read the manga at 11.

Amano's style is honestly defining to my style - It shows in the way I draw faces and eyes.

I'm not big on the KHR ani's art style, but I do appreciate what it gave us with the chibi interviews, character songs, etc. It's also cuz of the KHR ani that we (somehow) get endless KHR merch.

I prefer the manga designs, but I prefer the ani's colours for the charas because the KHR ani generally gave the KHR cast more skintone variety (when everyone was pasty in the original manga)

The KHR ani did such a great job by giving the KHR charas more skintone variety... Even pale charas in the KHR ani have different skin tones from each other.

Original vs. My Edit

I headcanon Xanxus to have tanner/warmer skin.

Xanxus with darker skin (olive skin in the KHR ani, and either olive or tan skin in certain KHR ani merch arts), literally just looks better from a character design perspective, imo. That's just facts 📠

His design has much better colour contrast with the ani colours. Like the black and red colours in his design contrast better with darker skin. Also against his blood/wine red eyes. It has more colour harmony and cohesiveness in terms of the colours

Xanxus with pale skin has less cohesiveness in terms of the colours

Xanxus, Yamamoto, and Ryouhei's designs just look so much more boring, pale, imo.

For KHR, I go manga design + ani colours + my own take on the ani colours.

Since I have a tendency to saturate colours with my own arts.

As a personal HC, I think Xanxus has a very mixed ethnicity.

My Italian American friend Feuri said Southern Italy and namely Sicily has a more mixed population.

The ani colours provide a good base for me to work off of for me to improve the colours :3

I do colour edits for fun. I like playing around with colours (editing official arts to see how the colours work together) to help guide my arts. I either do colour edits first or just immediately start picking colours for my arts

I usually hand artists a Drive folder filled with XanLena's art refs (including my own doodles) and write some notes on their design details since this makes things easier for the artists I'm commissioning.

Selena is Vietnamese/SEAsian with light tanned skin. She has black hair with a long ponytail that goes down to around the same length as her long front hair strands, and wears a white blouse with frills and a black seam with white buttons. She wears a black pleated skirt with a white line near the ends, and black thigh highs with horizontal white diamonds, and black doll-like shoes.

Since Xanxus wears a brown fluffy accessory, red feathers (that may be dyed red -> orange -> yellow), green strings with red beads, I don't mind if the artists I comm simplify these details.

So, whenever I commission artists, I ask for them to draw my HC versions! I'm very glad that all the artists I've commissioned have been very accommodating! 🙏💖

The modern remakes of old 90s - 2000s animes have such boring and bland dull colours to me.

I seriously fear that if they ever do a KHR remake or reboot, that they're gonna take away the OG KHR ani's better colours and make everyone look pasty pale (just like in the manga) just for "manga authenticity" and "loyalty to the source material" even though everyone looks so much more boring pasty pale!!! 🧍

Rolling hills of emerald green grass, towering trees that hide the sky, and patches of lapis lazuli blue peeking through the leaves. Hika looks below them, making eye contact with a particularly shrewd looking Titan.

Yeah, this place would be pretty scenic without this guy looking at Hika like they’re lunch.

Hika’s ears are tuned deeper into the forest, trying to hear any indication of, well, anything. The canons fired already, presumably trapping the Female Titan, but Hika hasn’t heard more.

Connie winces, as a Titan starts to climb.

“Relax,” Hika says to him, “give it a minute, then climb.”

i wanna post more about her but i get nervous!! but i’m still gonna do it anyways!!

be prepared, it’s a long one ^^

Note: As i was writing this i realized it got too long. So uh. I’ll be making a part 2. ^^

“Associated color?” Blue and white. Hikari is mainly associated with those two colors. Purple and yellow are also in there, but blue and white definitely make up the main palette ^^

“Favorite music genre?” Definitely indie rock, especially surf rock. Drawings Of Nothing by Archer Oh would probably be her favorite song, since it’s like. THE Hikari song in my brain

“Choice of weapon?” Hikari doesn’t really like to fight when it’s unnecessary. But she doesn’t use a weapon! She uses her magic to make big ol claws on her hands! She likes it since it feels natural. It’s an extension of her body, and she can get as up close and personal as she wants without really dealing with consequences, so she doesn’t mind!

“Are they crafty?” Vaguely? Not very much, though. She probably would if she spent more time alone, but since she’s always used to having others around, she doesn’t really get the chance to be super crafty.

“Usual wardrobe, practical or aesthetic focused?” Typically Hika would probably just wear her usual outfit or knight uniform, but if not she’d probably lean towards aesthetics. That’s not to say she doesn’t have cozy clothes! Sometimes she has a hard day and she just wants to curl up in the biggest, fluffiest sweater ever. ^^

“Hair?” VERY long and sleek blue hair. Usually she wears it tied in twintails, high twintails in her Xrd design and low twintails in her Strive design. It’s only really worn down when Nekomata takes over

“Favorite animal?” Now, you’d guess cat. After all, they’re not only a big part of her (locked away) past, but she also has cat ears and a tail! However, you must remember. She doesn’t give a fuck about herself. The only person she really does? Romeo. Her favorite animals are sheep.

“Nickname?” Not a real one, no. The most she has is Delilah calling her “big sis” at times and Romeo calling her an “insufferable cat”

“Favorite/least favorite food?” Dragonfruit is absolutely her favorite. She LOVES dragonfruit. As for least favorite.. Probably mutton, rock candy, or anything extremely bitter.

“Jewelry?” Not a ton? Unless you count her brooch and shackles on her strive design, which are made of a silvery metal, not really.

“How much are they like you?” Well, we’re both autistic, queer, love music, and vaguely depressed. So I’d probably get along pretty well with her.

“How long have they been around? Birthday?” Hikari is a very interesting case, to say the least. To start with the easy part, Hikari’s birthday is October 30th. I don’t remember why i decided that, it certainly wasn’t the day i made her, i think it just felt right. But as for how long she’s been alive… It’s complicated. Both physically and mentally, Hikari is in her late teens. 17-19 range. However, technically… She’s probably like in her 30s. This is because she died during the crusades as a teenager and she was brought back to life by the magical foci who fell in love with her and fused with her, turning her into an immortal yokai herself. She was actually alive in Baiken’s colony when it was around! I was thinking the attack that destroyed the colony and took Baiken’s arm and eye was the same one that killed Hikari at the time.

“How many languages can they speak?” 2! Hikari is fluent in both Japanese and English! She thinks it’s funny to annoy Romeo in Japanese since he can’t properly respond to it

“Good with numbers?” Vaguely? Her knowledge goes to like maybe beginning of algebra 1 and that’s it. She learned a lot from Romeo.

“What’s their family like?” Before their deaths, Hikari lived a quaint life in one of the Japanese colonies with her dad, older brother, and very abusive mom. They were all rather loving and didn’t mind Hikari’s differences and behavioral struggles (aside from the mom). After they all died, Hikari was revived, and her memories were erased, there was a long period of time where Hikari only had Bedman. He was all she knew. After his death, she was struck with deep grief. Grief that began to heal after she managed to meet Delilah. She sees Delilah, the bedframe, and Baiken to be the closest she has to having Romeo back at the current moment. She currently lives with them when she’s not working at the castle, and of course, Romeo joins their little household once he’s revived.

“Any pets?” Nope! She loves animals but never really had the chance to care for any pets.

“How did they spend their free time as a child?” Hikari loved nature before her death. Especially the forest and water. Whether it be running through the grass while calling out to singing birds, splashing in creeks with her brother, or accompanying her dad on fishing trips, she always wanted to be outside.

Cecil is missing and now it's up to Julian and Doran to find her. Due to an attack on their city, they've been forced to leave, finding refuge in a school's district housing. Julian ended up enrolled after being caught, due to negotiations with the headmistress. Doran technically isn't supposed to be here, so Julian has been keeping them in his dorm. The situation has put a wrench in the goal of finding their sister. But something about the school feels familiar...

The Great Cake Debacle- Cross Dimensional Answers Short Story

A/N: FINALLY!!!!!!!!!! Here is a little short story of my OCs from my Last Legacy rewrite. This takes place before the events of the rewrite but overall I had a ton of fun writing this.

The yellow light flickers in the off-white-tiled kitchen, grout that hasn’t been cleaned in a hot minute separating each square. The white fridge hums, loud and clear, almost as if one could hear it when walking in from the front door. Brown, oakwood, cabinets hang from the wall,  filled with mismatched plates, bowls, cups, spices, medicines, and whatever items needed to be stored hastily. It is most definitely not a kitchen one would see in the after photos of those famous remodeling shows, but it is perfect for Timothy and Megan.

Tim walks into the door, drops his keys off on the little table by the front door, takes off his shoes, and throws his uniform jacket onto the coat hanger. His eyes drag towards the pendulum clock that hangs on the wall, the two-dollar sticker from the flea market still on the bottom of it. 3:47 p.m. it reads. His bloodshot eyes look towards the kitchen.  After a rough day at school, he figures he should reward himself so he makes his way toward the humming fridge. He passes the jigsaw-furnished living room. A poster of two beings from another world hangs from the walls, signed by the creator of the game Megan loves. It is one of her prized possessions. How she is into that game, he’ll never know, but it makes her happy. That’s all that matters.

Tim steps into the kitchen, and makes his way to the cold machine attached to the wall, opening its door. The light from the fridge illuminates his face, tired and exhausted from the countless exams and the head-ache-inducing lights. Looking at the various choices, he picks up a container holding a particularly delicious chocolate cake, covered in a rich chocolate frosting. Tim grabs the cake, and takes it to the kitchen counter, grabbing a fork from their designated utensil drawer, and taking one bite after another, savoring each one. 

Tim finishes up the cake and recycles the container. Just as he finished rinsing off the fork, Megan walks into the door, clearly in the same exhausted state as her brother, coming back from work.

Tim turns around and asks, “How was work today?”

“Grueling as usual. Doesn’t help that the coffee shop across the street just closed so there are just more shitty customers to deal with,” she states, with clear disdain for her job. 

“Damn, I’m sorry. Hopefully, you can find something you enjoy doing soon.”

She gives him a small smile. “Yeah, me too. Doesn’t help that the jobs available right now all suck, but as long as this paycheck keeps the bills paid, we’ll be fine,” 

She goes over and opens the fridge that Tim had just rummaged through. It is then that Tim realizes he just made a mistake. A grave mistake. A mistake that he may not be able to come back from. In his tired state, he did not register that the cake he just ate down to the last crumb, was his sister’s cake from the other night. 

He tenses a bit and watches as Megan looks for the cake. 

Megan registers that the cake is not where she thought she put it but does not want to ask Tim if he knows where it is. He wouldn’t know where it is anyways. She closes the fridge and decides to look in the cabinets. Sure she could ask him, but she is notorious for being forgetful about where she places things. She loves her brothers and she knows their teasing about her forgetfulness is nothing but sibling banter, but it's not something she can deal with at the moment. So, she continues with her search. She looks through all the cabinets and even goes into her room to try to find the cake. Tim is still standing by the sink, guilt coated over his face. But he still does not speak up.

Megan walks back into the kitchen and stands there, frustrated and hungry, but then remembers something she has to do. It is Tuesday evening, meaning recycling comes tomorrow. So she approaches the recycling bin, reaching down to take it out. Tim realizes what she is doing, and turns around, away from her, focusing on the plate sitting in the sink, waiting for it to be cleaned, waiting for the impending doom. 

Before she closes the bag, she notices something familiar and pulls it out to investigate it. On the plastic container, there is a price tag, detailing what was in the container.

Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Frosting- $3.99

However, this container did not contain a chocolate cake, it was empty. Obviously, when she bought the delicious dessert, there was a slice in it. 

“Tim?” she asks, turning around to face her brother, holding up the container.

He turns slowly, guilt painted on his face. He gives his sister a weak smile.

“Yes?” 

“Care to explain why this container that had cake in it, doesn’t anymore?”

He moves his eyes around, trying to find a possible out for the situation. 

“Would you believe me if I said that a magical cat-man was in here like five minutes ago and stole the cake?”

Megan glares at him. Clear as to what her answer is.

“Okay, fine, I ate it without realizing it was yours. I’m sorry. On my way home from school tomorrow, I can get you another slice. How does that sound?” he asks her, clearly feeling terrible about the whole situation.

“Fine,” she states, punctuating her response by throwing the container back in with the other recyclables. “Just make sure it’s the slices from Benji’s Shop, and also pick up some sticky notes while you're there as well, I have a feeling I’ll need some anyways.”

She leaves the kitchen, and Tim decides to go into the living room and lay down on the couch. Megan joins him soon after, both of them sitting in comfortable silence.

“Is Andy and James coming over for dinner tonight?” Tim asks.

“No, they are going on a date,” she answers, “but they said they are able to come tomorrow. I was actually going to ask what you wanted to have tonight, maybe even get something from the pizza place at the end of the block, but since you pulled that little stunt earlier, I think I’ll just get something for myself.” 

Tim turns to Megan, eyes filled with a pleading stare, and she smirks back, amusement clear on her face.

“Just messing with you, we’ll get some pizza.”

Tim celebrates briefly and falls back onto the couch as silence fills the room once again.

Sometimes it's tough for the two of them, what with their current situation, but they know they’ll get through it. As long as they have each other, cake disasters and all.
