“No thanks.” Hero said, his voice sounding bitter… cold… upset.

“…” Basil said nothing in response. He turned to watch as Kel went feral over Sunny.

Aubrey was watching the two with her arms crossed. She had a blank look on her face, and without looking away from Kel and Sunny, she said,

“Hero, don’t be a bitch. Just say hi to him. It’s not going to kill you, for fuck’s sake.”

Hero gritted his teeth.

“I do not want to, Aubrey.” He replied.

“Oh my god, are you scared? You can say two simple words, I’m sure of it. You can say ‘Hi, Sunny’ and be done. You don’t even have to hold a conversation. Just fucking say hello.” Aubrey said, turning to Hero.

“Aubrey, if he doesn’t want-“ Basil started.

“No!! I’m not going to let him be a dick!! He can fucking say hello!! It’s not the end of the world!! I don’t understand why he can’t firgive Sunny if he’s forgiven you, so unless he finally gives me a good enough reason other than ‘I don’t want to,’ I have no reason to beleive he can’t be NICE TO OUR FRIEND.” Aubrey replied harshly. Her volume increased on the word ‘friend.’

Stranger sat, staring out into the darkness, the vastness of inky air broken only by the occasional white door. Or, sometimes, red ones.

There wasn’t much to do here. Just sit. Listen. See. Watch. For some reason, he never found himself getting bored of anything. He was never bored of sitting, of listening, seeing, watching. He was never bored of knowing. He wasn’t scared. He got angry sometimes, when he heard the distant screams of the flower child who bears the fruit of truth, his cries for mercy ringing through the shadows like a far-off nightmare that Stranger couldn’t save no matter what he did.

And, of course, he soon heard the Dreamer, who walked, but made no sound on the void. No footsteps were heard in the emptiness, only breathing.

He stood up and turned to face him. Milky white skin, tarnished by shadows, and red blood that was not his. Disgusting. Stranger could have berated him.

He didn’t have it in him to do so, however. He had grown too soft, too attached to him, after all this time waiting.

He acknowledged the Dreamer with a nod of his head, nothing more. He did not trust himself to speak.

The Dreamer’s only sign of acknowledgment was a dry flicker in his empty eyes. Recognition, perhaps. He couldn’t be sure.

He was never fully sure, with the Dreamer, since that damned child never spoke.

But he had some idea of what those brief flickers meant. …Most of the time.

He couldn’t quite say their lips met. He wasn’t sure he had lips, in any case.

But the fact remains, the two did come into contact.

A Stranger and a Dreamer.

One being, if only for a moment. Yet even if it was only a moment, it felt like years.
