was in the Hebrides in some mountains and hiking by myself so I was completely alone looking for eagles but occasionally you would see some weird shaped rocks on the ridges of the mountains then you'd look through your binos and there'd be like little groups of red deer staring straight at you from ~200m out and it was really magical you'd have loved it

lowkey have an urge to write a fugue - and the nerve! but maybe mixing illustration with 3d more? and figure out comic type stuff, if i can come up with what to do in it...

hmm well according to my expertise the objective optimal amount of legs per insect is in fact 64

provided, of course, they are very big legs.

(<- this guy is meant to be an arthropleura. they could be up to 6 feet long and had 32 - 64 ish legs !!)

5. TV Show of the year

SENPAI WA PEAK! It kinda wins by default because I think this is the only thing I watched this year that launched this year, but even if it wasn't, it'd be at least top 3 (because well it sure ain't beating RGU)

The show was a lovely, heartfelt watch that hit each emotional beat. If you have put off watching it because you were having doubts, this is your sign it's good queer shit. Also, I watched the entire thing with my boyfriend, so that made it extra special, hehehe.

And I got to watch my mom bust out her acting chops!

11. Something you want to do again next year

Weeeell... Since it's something I want, not something I will do, I'd like to replay FF V! More specifically, as a Four Job Fiesta! With the full bells and whistles of streaming it, setting up donations, etc. It really sounds like fun, you know?

As for why I won't... Well... Best case scenario, I'll be dead in the middle of my Masters writing so... Maybe 2026.

22. Favorite place you visited this year

Oh, I went to this coffee shop named Casa Verona with my brother! My family had been bothering me to take my brother to a certain tourist spot in my city, and the shop was at it's neighborhood, so, as an English Major, I HAD to go there.

It was a very nice, open, light space. Expensive, sure, but fully worth it given how much I had been wanting to go there for a while by then.

7. First time they experimented with their personal style

Rhys seems like a conformist in general - someone who was raised not to express himself fully and tries to keep bouncing his self-expression with people around him. At the typical age, teenage years might have been the first time he decided to try something. Probably started small, with the socks, as some boost for himself. His Tales fit might have been more of his college years thing - no longer at home, he could buy his clothes in bigger chunks, letting us see the New Horrid Way Of Wearing A Tie. Love it for him.

11. First "big purchase" they ever made on their own

A hard choice. I headcanon the Echo Eye might have been something he earned by himself, but I would say it was either something cyber that would relate to his work i.e. computer or electronics (his drive to get appreciated and onto higher status) or something like a nice coffee machine (celebration of his first paycheck).

10 What was your favorite new release of the year?

No idea. Not one of the books I read in 2024 was published in 2024. Maybe I’ll try to find a contemporary novel for 2025 but I’m pretty uninterested in most of what’s being published at the moment because so much of it is not good. Maybe the new Yoko Tawada book will be well written but other than that I prefer the back catalogue.

That being said: when Days of Ziklag is finally translated into English you will catch me revelling in the street like a one-woman bacchanal

16 What is the most over-hyped book you read this year?

Greek Lessons by Han Kang. Congrats on the Nobel but she did not deserve it for this book.

19 Did you use your library?

every waking day on this earth. I almost never buy books. My building has two ‘leave a book, take a book’ shelves, my local cafe has another one, it’s a fifteen minute walk to my local branch, and my big Fuck You Ivy League University employer has an enormous library system with a very generous return and renewal policy. I have an overflowing shelf just for books that I get for free off the street.

24. Did you DNF anything? Why?

Ugh. I didn’t keep up with reading Swann’s Way with my book club because it’s extremely dense if EXTREMELY good. The edition I have is annotated and there are so many annotations and notes to look up that I get distracted from the text.

25. What reading goals do you have for next year?

Reading City of God by Saint Augustine. And now I guess finishing Proust.
