may i know more about dian’s and his sibling’s parents : 3 ? also, are they all directly related, ( consistently having the same parents ) or do some of the siblings have different mothers or fathers ?

The fire siblings (what they are more generally called) which are comprised of, at the very least, Cam, Dian, Flor, Oli, and Faisal (Flor belonging to @sotogalmo and Oli belonging to @pinkcocopuff-aqualoid) all have the same parents in the ALNST universe. at least, when I checked with Luti, she seemed okay with that :3 they have the shared trait of warm brown skin, and red/ginger hair (with Oli/Flor's being more yellow and Dian/Fai's being more reddish in undertone). Their hair is also like, curly/fluffy.

I'm going to say that Dian (and his siblings') mother was a model who only had children after she had passed her metaphorical prime when it came to the industry. Their father was a performer, I'm leaning towards musical actor? Since Flor is a performer (musically and nonmusically), Dian is an actor/model, Fai is an announcer (which is a kind of performance, in a way), and Cam was a high-profile musician, having two parents whose fields could more or less combine into the positions that their children had makes sense in the grand scheme of things, considering that the seygein probably only let humans breed if they thought they would get a specific result out of it.

Dian (and his siblings) are mixed Indonesian and Mexican, I'm thinking their mother was Mexican and their father was Indonesian. . . Flor is a rodeo clown in one universe and Dian travels with her as a cowboy/bullrider and I'm thinking they learned that from their mama's side (in that universe at least lmao)

It's me again. remeber the Ask i sent about the person who makes me not want to post and stuff? Well recently I realized they had been ripping off people in this fandom, like they did a month thing, and anyone can do months but it was a lot like Luty Month that another user did. And there were 2 fanfictions that were very similar to other fics people wrote WAY before this person did. Honestly getting inspired is one thing but I feel like they see other people getting hits on fanfiction so she wants to copy. I hope this issue would be resolved soon because it is just going to ruin the nice fandom we have going right now.

i definitely agree with everyone else and with you anon, I love this little community that’s been built up and it is frustrating to see things like this. honestly i don’t think there’s an easy solution to this or anything because I don’t think anyone wants to start anything but we’re a small little fandom who creates original work because we love to do it and not for attention and I hope this person realizes this because there is nothing to be gained from ripping others off.

Reading up on Raphael's life, it's remarkable that he remained such an outgoing and good-natured person throughout. I mean he experienced multiple tragedies and depressing events.

He was the only one of 3 children who survived past infancy (his 2 other siblings died), his mother died when he was 8, then his father at 11. He had a step-mother and younger half-sister, the former of which got into a legal battle with his paternal uncle over their estate.

Raphael then met his idol Michelangelo but was rejected and ended up becoming a rival. After that, he met Margherita Luti and fell in love with her, only to have accepted an engagement to a cardinal's niece under duress, preventing him from truly being with the woman he actually loved. Finally, he got ill and died too soon at 37, without ever having confessed to his secret affair and marriage to Margherita.

I really don't get why people think Raphael had an easy life. This is one of the reasons he is the most ignored of the big 3 renaissance masters today— he's not eccentric enough for modern audiences. I'm not hating on Leonardo or Michelangelo (they're amazing artists in their own right), but it's clear that many think Raphael had everything come to him so easily, which is far from the truth. Honestly, him being the most human of the 3 (his relationships with people, his personality, his love life, etc.) is why I find him the most fascinating.

1 - Smoke Break

Set during events of Stormblood - CW: Strong language, war, loss

The cloudless skies stretch on, near-infinite over Gyr Abania’s natural splendor. Specula Imperatoris mars it.

The monstrous watchtower spindles over the skyline and casts a constant shadow over the land, as black as the metal it’s made out of, and today, a pair of slackers goof off at its peak. Only specially authorized employees are allowed to be up this high, but Oliver Jen Luti has his ways. With the outside breeze blowing strongly against their cheeks, he and his guest enjoy the view while idiotically trying to get a cigarette to catch in the wind.

Flick. “Fuck.” Flick. “Fuck.” Flick. “Fuck! Ollieee, it keeps getting blown out!” His visitor wails. It also doesn’t help that the wind keeps tossing her ginger hair into her face, blinding her for seconds at a time between attempts.

“Here. Let me just --” Oliver first tries to guard the lighter’s flickering flame against the wind. Another powerful gust tosses her hair right into the fire, so he decides to grab onto her ponytail instead. “Try now, Gloria!”

“Oww, you’re hurting me. My head isn’t a turnip, you dumbass!” She whines loudly.

“Yeah, cause you’re not a turnip, you’re a goddamn carrot. Now stop complaining and get on with it!” Oliver claps back with a laugh.

Gloria mumbles swears under her breath as she gets her cigarette to light. Then, the two of them stare vaguely over the landscape, gazes eventually drawn towards Baelsar’s Wall in the east. Oliver breaks the silence.

“The Alliance broke through. So...this place is next,” he says. Somehow, the exhaustion in his voice prevails over fear, and Gloria squints in irritation.

“What? Noo,” Gloria replies. She’s heard differently (assuaging nothings from management), but Ollie tends to have his ear closer to the ground. She takes half a second to reconsider. “...Oh shit. You think we should run?”

“And desert the XIIth?” Oliver says, glancing at Gloria. She grimaces as he continues. “Look, we’re noncombatants, so other people get to fight. And even if we do lose this skirmish, I think we’ll be fine. You ever heard of the Ironworks?”

“Shut it, Ollie! We’re not supposed to talk about them!” Gloria hisses. She bumps her shoulder against his and he laughs with his cigarette still balanced between his lips.

“Yeah, I know.” He taps ash into the drop below, smiling. “I know.”

The conversation dies down again, although the silence is comfortable and meandering in the way it tends to be between old friends. Gloria leans her head against Oliver’s arm and decides to look in the other direction instead, and the sight of Castrum Abania comes as a much needed comfort.

“Why don’t you switch departments and come work with me and Florus? There’s endless shit to do when it comes to the cannon,” she suggests. The idea of any of these strongholds falling is difficult to believe for Gloria, but then again, Baelsar’s Wall apparently fell. Better to play it safe.

“Are internal transfers still happening? I thought there was a freeze.” Oliver blows out smoke and gives Castrum Abania a considering stare. That’s where Gloria and Florus were stationed and, if Florus’s stories were to be believed, management made working there a living hell. Still, some distance between him and danger would probably be wise.

“Oh fuck, yeah. I’m not sure...But I can ask when I go back. Put in good word. You know, all that jazz,” Gloria promises with a smirk. 

Even in wartime, the technology department had its benefits. That’s why she’s visiting Oliver during her downtime and why she’s sheltered from the reality of how bad things are. Anything to keep calm and carry on, so what’s a little more censorship on a population that’s already bombarded with propaganda? Oliver finishes his cigarette and crumbles it into his pocket with a sigh.

“Yeah, thanks. Let me know,” he mutters. 

Gloria pouts and tugs down on his jacket.

“Hey, meathead! I’m going out on a limb here, and the least you could do is not look so down!” Gloria exclaims. Oliver sends her a pained look, then glances away, pissing her off even more. She tugs harder. “Out with it, Ollie. OUT. What’s bothering you?”

He fixes his hat and lets out another sigh, but Gloria doesn’t take the hint. She tends not to. 

“...I don’t know. I guess I’m tired,” Oliver eventually says. These aren’t the right words for the mess that’s spiraling around in his head, but still, he has to try. Otherwise Gloria’s going to be on his ass 24/7. “It’s just...enough is enough. Something has to change. I don’t know what, but just. Something.”

Gloria frowns, expecting another drawn out rant about the wonderful Populares and the terrible injustices within Garlemald, but for once he doesn’t deliver. Instead of filling the air with hot takes and salty calls for action, Oliver is silent. He’s squinting at something beneath them with a puzzled expression on his face.

“Hey, are people rioting?”

Some fun facts for The Old Guard/Kaysanova

1. The Arabic word for tangerine is Yousefi | يوسفي .

According to my nana, it was named after the man called Youssef Afandi who who imported it from Italy during the reign of Muhammed Ali Pasha in Egypt. Make with that what you will.

2. Joe is not an uncommon nickname for men called Yusuf/Youssef, especially those who live abroad and/or come from bilingual families. I’ve known at least five Youssef/Yusufs - including my cousin - who answer to Joe. So, it’s not unusual or disrespectful to call him that in fics/discussion.

3. The Arabic version of Nicolo is Nicola | نقولا‎ .

4. Joe being from either Tunisia or Egypt makes him a North African. There has been a movement to make a distinction and reclaim ethnic identity, giving rise to the acronym MENA (Middle Eastern North African) as opposed to inaccurately calling everyone Arabs.

You can count North Africans as part of the ‘Arab World’ in the sense that they speak a dialect of Arabic. If he is Tunisian in your story then he is specifically a Maghrebi/Maghrebien. He’ll be more inclined to that identity because during the Crusades all of Northwest Africa was simply called the Maghreb.

PS. Maghreb means ‘the sunset, coming from the word gharb meaning ‘west’ i.e. the sun setting in the west.

5. In the time period in which they met, Nicky won’t think of him as ‘an Arab’ of any kind, but as a Moor. Joe will think of him as a Frank/Afranji.

6. If you are writing a Modern AU then a Maghrebi Joe will be fluent in French, if he’s Egyptian chances are he also had to learn French.

7. Medieval Muslims frequently drank wine (let’s be honest a lot of modern ones do as well, but to avoid public scrutiny it’s either done abroad or in private or you have to be wealthy to get away with it), there is a library’s worth of poetry of them referencing how much they love it. So, it’s not unusual to depict him drinking like he was in the movie.

8. Joe being North African and Nicky being Italian makes them both Mediterranean, they could have an interesting amount of culture and history in common.

9. If you want to explain how they understood each other when they first met, the lingua franca in the Mediterranean was Greek. There’s also a high chance that they both knew Latin.

10. In religious discussions between them, remember that Muslims also revere Jesus and Mary. Jesus, or al-Messih (the Messiah), is an important figure in Islam and is considered a prophet born of a virgin - just not the son of God.

According to my teachers, he wasn’t crucified or resurrected, but ‘raised bodily into heaven’. In the End of Days he’s set to have a Second Coming to fight al-messih el-dajjal / the false Messiah akin to the Antichrist in Christianity.

11. If you’re going to talk about how Christianity feels about gay men for conflict, include Joe’s side. That is, unless you’re starting with Joe as an atheist and Nicky as a devout priest.

The story of qoum-Lut / the people of Lot - as in Sodom and Gomorrah - is not taken lightly in Islam. The term Luti (of Lot) is shorthand for ‘homosexual’ and it’s an insult. People who are struggling with their sexuality are told that ‘the devil is whispering in your ear’ and there are hadiths that say ‘if you find someone doing what Lot and his people did then kill them both’. Others say that you can have feelings, but you should remain celibate, and having sex would be zina (sexual sin) worth getting stoned.

Being gay can get you ostracized, committed, jailed or killed or all of the above in most Muslim majority countries. So, if you’re going to showcase this, please take it seriously. This is something I and a lot of friends had to grapple with, and most of us have left Islam with irreparable damage/trauma, so it’d be interesting to see our experience represented with Joe, since it’s often either ignored, or just about Nicky’s Catholic guilt.

12. To follow-up on my previous point, in the Middle Ages, people usually turned blind eyes to homoerotic poetry or homosexual activity, it was seen as avoiding ruining a woman’s honor/siring bastards and that they’d stop once they got married. Kind of like how it was in Ancient Greece, something you did in your youth and ‘grew out of’. They played fast and loose for a few centuries until governments started cracking down on people not abiding by religious law around the 19th Century.

However, that was assuming you had the safety-net of a rich family, a position in the court of someone important or powerful, or your own power. If you were a commoner and you got caught, you faced the consequences.

There is a fair-bit of homoerotic poetry, namely by Abu Nawas, you could reference. His stuff got censored and burned by the thousands for that...

Also, the Hanafi school of Islam says that, like wine and other haram things, they are permitted in death/in paradise. So you could argue that since Joe already died, he’s exempt from abiding by any religious law.

13. Last, it’d be interesting to see a fic use courtly love and how it evolved from around the First Crusade and traveled up into Europe, becoming a staple in medieval literature and how it originated from Andalusian Spain and Arabic poetry. It could tie into how flowery and incurably romantic Joe is.

Tia Flor . . . that's. god she would be such a good aunt. I think Nyx & Di's kids would love her (Minh would be a lil offput by her enthusiasm though, I think lmao). It's so insane to me (/pos) that Fai and Dian are Sebastian's uncles, as well, because god in heaven, Dian is going to fucking spoil that kid rotten and Fai would be so protective of him, it's so funny to me. (Fai and Seb similarities, unconscious generational trauma go brrr.) Also!! I think, in the modern au, Flor is Dian's favorite sibling (not that she's not in the canon, it's just he doesn't really think about that in his original timeline).

I believe that sibling order would go: Cam (the eldest who sometimes goes unnamed) -> Dian -> Flor & Oli -> Faisal

because dian is 19 during season 39! so if Flor was 18-19 they’re actually p close in age :3 and faisal is about 3-4 years younger than them i think! (so he'd be about a decade? older than Seb)

I'm writing something that involves Dian rn and he mentions Flor a few times, but he also mentions Fai and his other, older sibling, and I wanted to ask you whether you think in the ALNST OC canon, Dian and Flor are bio-related or they're just found family siblings? Because I know we said that they were bio siblings in the modern au :D obviously that can change too, if you want, I know it's been a bit since we decided that but I still do really like the idea hehe

Violetta season 1: The rewatch: The conclusion

It's much harder to conclude when you've seen a season 11 billion times, but this is, believe it or not, the first time I watch it all in spanish. Of course I have seen episodes in spanish, but never a full season. So, there was a new experience!

I hate Germán more :D

I feel like my Pablangie shipping is fading... which was a little odd. In S1 I've always been THERE for them, but now I felt like I barely cared. Hm. I still appreciate that they got basically more kisses than Germangie combined <3

Napo really be so gay on main that they deleted him from existence in S2

Ok, but honestly, we always call Braco and Napo boyfriends, but I tbh felt the vibe rn of just confused eastern european and his gay best friend. Braco himself doesn't have much vibes of any sorts

Y'all realize Andrea and Gustavo very much still are at the Studio and the characters probably see them every day and pretend they don't know them

GOD how I loved Angie and Violetta's dynamic. Every time I rewatch these shows, I expect to focus on a thing and then I focus on something I didn't think. In SL I didn't think I would focus so much on Lumon in S2, for example. And I didn't think I would focus so much on the aunt and niece relationship but THE TIME IS NOW <3

I keep imagining what would've happened if Angie was there for all of her childhood. How much happier Violetta's life would've been. Imagine how it would have been. She could have told Vilu all about her mom. She could have picked her up from school and take her out for ice cream and lunch. She would defend any bully trying to pick on her. She would teach her so much her dad couldn't. She could've helped her when she got her first period (which I imagine, probably was not a fun experience in Vilu's canon upbringing, she prob had NO ONE to talk to). And with that, Angie could've probably been the one giving Vilu "the talk" and make it a less awkward experience cause she's open to any questions and Vilu would feel more comfortable asking them. Violetta could have more time to develop crushes and Angie could've talked to her about it... THEY COULD'VE SUNG TOGETHER AND ANGIE WOULD HAVE SUPPORTED HER SINGING!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAUGH GERMÁN WHY DID YOU NOT LET HER HAVE THIS CHILDHOOD SOMEONE WRITE A FIC ABOUT THIS ALTERNATE UNIVERSE OR I WILL

The Franletta moments keep popping up and now i'm about to enter the RAINBOW SEASON and you BET I will find even more moments that isn't already there!!

The songs are banging as usual

Gregorio is so much more funnier than I remember. EVERY dance class with him is filled with chaos and I love it.

Season 2 makes me so happy. Season 2 makes me so warm inside. It's so colorful, so cozy, always filled with sunshine... not to mention the incredibly queer vibes that has filled the air.

That's why my tag for season 2 is "The epic violetta rewatch 2: the rainbow season"

But before we get into that, you might wanna watch my out of context video? <3 It's much from s1, but I squeezed in some from S3 and like one scene from S2 based on my mutuals' liveblogs. There were some scenes I just couldn't bring myself not to include them.

hell yeah my loves <33 i clearly don't talk enough about them considering how much i love them so!! let's go!!

When I started shipping them:

ok so i absolutely can't remember what i thought about them as a child, i think i liked them but i don't have any strong memories about them you know? so this is gonna be when i started shipping them again i guess, but honestly? the very moment ludmila laid her eyes on federico in s2. like i remember so clearly seeing her give him heart eyes and going "oh.............i like that.........." because like, did her crush on him come out of nowhere? absolutely. was that the happiest i'd ever seen her? 100%, and that was more than enough for me at first

My thoughts:

EXTREMELY GOOD they are so so so important to me and i ADORE them with my whole heart, like i didn't expect to love them THAT much when i rewatched the show after years but they make me so so happy i want them to kiss

What makes me happy about them:

they're binary stars..............they love each other so much........the way ludmila's crush was so over the top while still feeling so genuine, how their feelings evolved, the way fede wants ludmila to be happy and nothing else, the way he constantly tells her he doesn't want to change her he just wants her to be the version of herself that can finally be happy.......they're so..............THEY'RE SO.........

What makes me sad about them:

well they did have moments where they weren't at their best but since s3 was ludmila's season and she got the opposite of vilu's treatment, that means that i genuinely think they might be the canon couple with the best writing overall, there's very little i'd change about fedemila you know they're so so good

Things done in fanfic that annoys me:

ok so obviously it wouldn't happen in a fedemila fic and i have genuinely no idea if it happens in other fics too like as i said i have quite the backlog in terms of fics to read, but since i know quite a lot of people in this fandom like to call their relationship sibling-like i know if wouldn't like it at all if i read that in a fic you know

Things I look for in fanfic:

i don't often read fedemila fics and i probably wouldn't read a fic focused on them but like my fav ships are leonetta and marciego so if i could get some cute background fedemila in fics i would adore it you know

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:

i don't really have anyone else in mind rn, like it's not that i don't see them being only with each other but i don't have any other federico ship and luty nation i'll come back to you in 2 to 3 business months to answer to that one, because to this day i have no idea if i'd be comfortable with them really ending up together

My happily ever after for them:

i want them to travel the world together, i want ludmila to follow fede in his career and see the world with him, i want her to learn to take everything she can from this life, i want them to go shopping in absolutely every city in the world, i want fede's fans to LOVE ludmila because she always posts iconic pics of them on her social medias and i want them to love her because they see how much federico loves her, i want them to show off to the whole world and SHOW THEM they're happier than they'll ever be, i want them to come home to violetta and german and have fun, to be always close to their friends even when they're far away, i want their life to unfold beautifully between argentina and italy and the rest of the world, i also don't know who i'd see have children or if i'd see anyone have children in the main cast, but if they did i want ludmila and fede to be THE favorite aunt and uncle of everyone, like the ones that always bring expensive gifts for the kids and tell them embarrassing stories about their parents, that's all i want for them. also i have no idea if fedemila would ever get married (probably but) but if they did i'd want them to get rings with astronomy things on them like it's their thing you know <33
