to the one person in support of a v/ander drabble, here it is !! i plan on writing more of him bcs i’m still figuring out how to write his character, but here’s a 700 word drabble to suffice until then

It’s been a long fucking shift.

Between the recent short staffing and the sudden influx in customers, Vander has been working his ass off to keep The Last Drop afloat.

It’s just past 12:30 AM, meaning only the regular frequenters of the bar remain. The typical late night crowd, who indulge in loud, drunken celebration and down drink after drink.

Vander doesn’t typically mind. He enjoys having patrons loyal to the bar, and on occassion he’ll share a drink with them to end the night with a slight buzz— although with his size, it has to be one hell of a drink to even get him tipsy.

He’s currently standing behind the bar, working to polish its pristine countertops, which he’s always prided himself on. The Last Drop isn’t just any bar in the undercity: it’s the bar. It’s his bar, and it’s a damn good one.

Vander’s attention is broken as the chiming of the front door’s bell rings through the room. His tired features are illuminated by the low lighting of the bar, and yet a visible grin tugs at his lips as Sevika enters. He’d been wondering when she’d come around, expecting her presence on a Saturday night.

“The usual?” he asks simply, his hands already moving to grab the liquor of Sevika’s choice. She nods wordlessly, straddling a nearby barstool and pulling out a cigar.

Vander’s quick to make the drink, passing it over and watching as Sevika lights her smoke.

“Busy night,” she comments gruffly, letting out a huff of laughter as she observes a drunkard put his buddy into a headlock.

“Oi! You break it, you buy it,” Vander calls as they knock over a chair in the tussle. The men are quick to stop their drunken behavior, seating themselves once again. It’s common knowledge that you don’t want to fuck with Vander, and most customers respect him enough to keep in line; if they don’t, they’ll sure as hell learn their lesson.

Vander scowls as he feels an irritating itch bloom in the back of his sinuses, burning up to the tip of his nose and barely giving him a moment to turn away from the bar. He ducks into his elbow with a resounding, “hhHHDDSXCHhhew!”

A few of the especially inebriated patrons cheer at the sound, a bellowing of laughter following the expulsion.

Vander keeps his back turned to the bartop, reaching for the rag he keeps tucked in his back pocket. As his breath catches with a vocal “hhHH” he raises the rag just in time, burying his nose into the rough fabric, “hhHRRRSZZCHh’uh!”

Another round of hollering sounds after the sneeze, accompanied by clapping from one man and a drunken, “Good one Vander!” from another.

Vander pinches the bridge of his nose in annoyance, sniffling hard and berating the underside of the appendage. He tosses the rag into the ‘dirty bin’ and exchanges it for a clean one to continue his work.

To those who spend hours at The Last Drop every weekend— if not every day— Vander’s sneezes are somewhat famous. They match his size, certainly, and he makes no attempt to stifle them. At least not in the confines of his bar. Afterall, it’s his bar, why on Earth would he suppress his sneezes?

As 1 AM draws nearer, Vander starts giving out warnings that he’s closing soon, met with groans and animated protests.

Much to his annoyance, the itch returns just as the final stranglers exit the bar. He locks the door behind them, starting the closing tasks before doubling over with a chest heaving “hhHHSSZZXCHhhew!” without any warning or build up.

Vander groans as he notices the spray cast upon the table he’d just started cleaning, having to begin his work again. Much to his relief, his nose stops its irritation for the rest of the evening, seemingly satisfied with three sneezes tonight.

By the time he finishes closing the bar, it’s just past 2 AM. He’s practically asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow, exhausted but ready to do the same routine tomorrow. And the next day, and the next… If it meant The Last Drop could stay open, it was well worth it. He wasn’t going to sacrifice a pillar of the undercity’s social scene over a little fatigue.

At 13, I started drawing fanart of my favorite streamer and he'd randomly pick people's fanarts to look thru at his stream. I figured I'd have much higher chances of being noticed by him if my drawing skill gets better. So since then till now, for 11 years I've been practicing drawing (god I feel so old😭)

And I'm one of those lucky people whose career match their passion! Been working as an animator for a tv show hahah

”A Monster’s Threads” QnA please!!! (I know I’m late lol sorryyy)

Were there any films, songs, or other fics that particularly inspired you when developing the story?

If you added more chapters, where would they go and what would they cover?

Did you plan out the whole story or did you come up with it as you went?

Who was the easiest character to write? Who was the hardest?

Did you ever get emotional or cry when writing certain scenes?

Did you pull any punches with the heavier content? Where? When?

What was your fav scene to write in the whole fic?

How did your perspective grow/shift on certain characters after writing them?

Hhhhh yesss thank you! AMT is my first fic, though I was not nearly in the know as I am now. So let's see...

In terms of inspirations, it's weird. I remember reading a pretty accurate novelization of the Nibelheim Incident and feeling inspired to write my own version. There've also been plenty of Seph backstory fics out there as well and while I initially took inspiration from a few, I very quickly branched out from there. Novel inspirations included Gregory Maguire's Wicked, though only in design and not in practice or flow. I also listened to a LOT of Glass Animals for the Sephgen chapters.

My biggest regret is not having more Gast-Seph chapters. I'm still beating myself up over it. I maybe would have liked to have fleshed out a few more chapters with Seph in Wutai, and possibly integrating his scenes from Before Crisis as well, especially his encounter with Elfe. Her asking him why he fights I feel is an often overlooked but pivotal character moment for him. I also probably would have rewritten a lot of the Aerith chapters as well, with more of a focus on Ifalna.

AMT was originally going to be "snippets", hence the shortage of Gast chapters. It was going to jump through huge chunks of time with a focus on important canon moments. By chapter 7ish I started to get more ambitious.

Easiest character to write is Hojo. Or Jenova. Not that Jenova is an actual "character", but writing more animalistic horror characters is a lot easier than characters who go through an arc. Hojo is easy because he's a dick, and already knows the whole score. He knows exactly what he wants and what he expects. Less guessing work.

In terms of emotion, there were a few instances. Seph, Gen, and Angeal sharing pasta together. Angeal's farewell. And especially the ending. I'd been waiting for the ending for a long, long time.

There was lots of stuff that was eventually cut or shortened. Sephiroth was originally going to wear a shock collar most of his childhood. Angeal's body was going to take a bad tumble off the gurney and/or coffin while Seph and Zack had an argument over it. Hojo was going to be a lot creepier with some...unsettling implications. It was all too much. So I didn't go there.

Favorite scene was the penultimate confrontation between Sephiroth and Zack in Nibelheim. I just wanted to write Seph going apeshit insane. I was practically losing my mind during the buildup. It was the easiest chapter to write because I was blazing through on pure malicious glee.

I put some Sephzack in there, or at least hints of it. Probably wouldn't have leaned into that as much since I'm more staunchly into Sephgen. I know a lot more about certain points of lore now than I did at the time of writing it, though I did a lot of research. There's some things that are kind of screwy timeline-wise. I think I now view certain characters with a bit more sympathy now. Genesis, for example, while I liked him at the time of writing it, occasionally comes off as a genuine asshole. I might have softened him up a bit, though I did try to be really fair to him in the fic. At least, I hope I did.

HHHH illustrations. The waterfall scene was illustrated thanks to a lovely commission by @manalovebot. And that was one of the big ones for me. So if I really had to think about it...perhaps the end of part 2 with Seph on the roof. Or Lucrecia seeing baby Seph at the beginning of part 3. Or maybe even Sephiroth fighting Zack in Nibelheim. I'm really not kidding when I say that if I had any artistic abilities, I'd have every chapter illustrated.

already a year of studying korean??

wow uhhh.. that went fast

i'm going to reflect on some parts of my study process below :) but yea, it feels kinda surreal, but i can see the progress!!! i honestly needed some extra motivation right now, and this definitely gave me a boost

vocab: probably my strong point. (almost) daily anki practice, adding new words pretty often. so i can understand a lot of words, it's just the application and conjugation that's the problem

grammar: i think this is the main thing holding me back. i technically know a lot of grammar rules, i have them written down and can find them easily if needed. i just haven't really been practicing any of them, so most of the time i don't remember them without looking them up in my notes.

immersion: i mean i listen to a lot of korean, doesn't mean i understand it hhhh. i started following some accounts posting in korean on different apps, so i'm hoping to practice my reading there casually (in addition to my specific reading time). the excitement i feel when i understand something is so great i just !!!!! (also emulating an old animal crossing game in korean, it's definitely still too difficult for me to understand hhhh)

so, goals for the next year?

honestly i need to reduce the time of learning new stuff and focus on practicing the things i already know. then once i'm more confident with those, i can start adding more concepts again.

so i think in general more focus on practice and application. i need to read more, write more, speak more. i don't think it'll be easy but i want to try :)

About Gojou’s legs... yeah, Idk about that either. If we want to be farfetched, it could be because it fits Gojou’s character design, maybe Gege just like drawing his legs that way (I know I do. Drawing legs like that looks fun!), or it just helps Gojou looks more menacing. His time in Shibuya definitely shows how menacing he is.

On second thought, his manga legs aren’t that skinny lol. I can see him not skipping leg day and still fit that pants. It does look skinnier (and pointy) in some panels due to perspective and all.

And as you said earlier, black creates a slimmer look. That could also influence my first impression of “lanky” Gojou lol

Ayo, why do so many people think Gojo was lanky before his unboxing? He was stuck in a pocket dimension for nineteen days. Nineteen days is a lot of time but simultaneously isn’t when it comes to building muscle specifically. Also, the point of the cube was to trap him so he couldn’t move. He wasn’t deadlifting in the cube; he literally couldn’t do anything. At one point in time, Gege said time doesn’t even flow the same in the cube, and it’s more like there is no flow of time. Nineteen days for Yuji could have felt like a few seconds for Gojo. Gege could have changed their stance on that, idk, I haven’t read the chapter

My point is, Gojo hasn’t been lanky since high school, most likely. After Toji rocked his shit and nearly killed him, I imagine that would traumatize him at least a little lmao He improved his Infinity and gained, like, mast control over it and probably bulked up. This man is 28 and fights the strongest curses regularly. Aint no way he never gained muscle in the 11 years since his fight with Toji as a second year. I mean…even Yuji is shredded. The jacket Gojo wears is baggy. The black long sleeve shirt he wore? Kinda baggy. The blue button up? Pretty loose. Hello everyone. omnibus update. oh my god am i tired but i legit dont even have a bed bc my cousin is.. not v helpful at all. soooo where do i start. lol.

Okay i got outta quarantine at 11 and took a taxi to my dorm. BUTTT my dorm building is located on a street that has a very busy street market. so i was dropped off a little bit further down and the driver told me it was down there and i thought i knew where it was do i confidently walked down a busy busy street with two monster luggages and got lost and almost hit with a scooter until a VERY NICE uncle helped me find the place. Then i checked in. which was ... interesting bc i came at the same time as a dude from shanghai. and the dorm leader was very... laid back and took her sweet time to check ne in. thus was fine but i was like... nervous lol. anyways, afterwards i talked to her and told her yk. why im here, that i speak chinese a bit. she was v nice and friendly. she told me all my roommates are out but theyre all japanese. which is funny bc like... i practice chinese SO MUCH to be like.. here are ur roommates. speak in jpn which. i can do. but LOL. so i go in, i fought with the door. so fucking much. omg that door beat my ASS. LIKE NO OTHER. no one was there. i barely got my things set up and wrote a note and left on the door bc i had orientation right after. and i thought like. oh okay just go pay my fees. get my schedule and leave. NOPE. i go in, I'm immediately doing a verbal interview to gauge my language abilities even tho i already took a placement test. and theyre like. cool, the class for ur level is going on. Right Now so uh. go to class. girl i was do hungry. so i go, sit in class for 3 hrs (not bad im just tired). My teacher is soooooo nice and very animated. i really like her. class is... a little higher than my level tbh. there was a lot i didnt know and it moves v fast... i feel so winded. But ik I'll be able to do it just fine. Oh yea i took the bus by myself and hhhh oh my god. the bus alone was so much. i sit down. wait for my bus. i thought i had the wrong one bc i saw a bus with my number on the opposite side and swore i was gonna miss the bus but i didnt. also i tried to give this old lady my seat and she scolded me by saying that she stands so much to keep herself healthy and then told me that i need to close my legs and sit up straight bc I'll look prettier. lmaooooo. and she told me not to be on my phone like the girl beside me. then the girl beside me asked me if i was a student and we had a conversation. she was very nice. helped me a lot she was japanese so it helped that i speak japanese a bit. there are. so many japanese students here. the guy i sit next to in class is japanese. i asked him his name but from his accent i knew he was japanese so i said "もしかして日本人ですか?" and he was like "はい! あなたも?!??" and i was like... nooo ofc not. and i explained i just studied it as a teenager bc i was a weeb. we talked abt anime. he likes bp which yk... unfortunate now but i doubt this random guy knows that whole deal. but yea, had many good pleasant conversations. tho nothing like deep connection but i didn't really expect that anyways. But yea, after i got out i was supposed to meet my cousins old roommate to get her mattress and fucking.. oh my god. nothing went right so my cousin was like... uh can u stay on campus till i get outta work and im like. uhhh thatd be 3 hrs and i rlly just wanna go back and lie down. and she didnt respond so i came back, met my roommates. which was... nice but kinda strange. there was a point they were kinda just all surrounding me and i was in a corner (like actually physically) trying to speak in half chinese half japanese. which was hard bc im just very disoriented. its been a long day and its only 7pm. but my cousin just got back to me abt the mattress. I'm meeting someone else at the dorms hopefully soon to get a mattress and then i can Finally SLEEP.... today gas been so much but in a very good way!!
