Arcane fans are all so fucking stupid and y'all deserve this stupid ass show. If this show had even a modicum of intelligence its thesis statement would have been that institutional oppression enacted by Piltover against Zaun was the real jinx and rot of show, finally giving rise to a monster coming to Jinx them back and be the reckoning for all their sins. Instead they give us that fuckass idiotic episode 7 that attempts to pin all the blame on Hextech and pretends like the horrible conditions of Zaun and cruelty of Piltover didn't already exist long before Jayce and Viktor cranked that damn crystal. Not only that, they go and martyr Vi which just gave the lowest bottom of the barrel members of this fandom a chance to accuse her of being the "real" jinx. This show is unserious garbage and its moronic fans deserve it.

I also think that all of non-astral Viktor’s designs always including the blanket Jayce covers him in is not only a sign of Jayce being his last tie to humanity but also as a reminder that Jayce is the reason it happened. like had he not saved Viktor/revived Viktor (depending on if you believe Viktor was on his way to dying or was dead when Jayce used the hexcore) then none of this would be happening. there would be no glorious evolution. if he just lets him die (jayce can't) then viktors 2.0-3.0 (maybe a 4.0?) never happen. (side note how many times did viktor die and get revived? like at least 3. that would make even the sanest of men probably lose it a bit)

it’s a visual reminder that Jayce has always and will forever be the reason the evolution happens. he loves Viktor so much he also dooms him. and in every universe he will always doom him because he loves him. Because Viktor saved him when he barely knew him (talking him off that ledge) and before he even knew Viktor, all the way back when he was a kid.

He gives him the blanket because comforting Viktor is his priority after knowing Viktor is alive. Viktor keeps the blanket (partially because he’s naked af/hes slaying with it on) but also because it’s his last tie to the single person he cares about.

ALSO can I just say the people who are like "but Viktor doomed Jayce/their universes by giving him the rune". like. Jayce was going to die in that snowstorm. even if he didn't leave the rune/gem Jayce was always going to chase that magic anyways. Viktor was not going to let little Jayce and his mom die yall.

I didn’t see anyone discussing what it means that in canon Hextech got a will of its own. On surface level its goal seemed just to be to create an emotionless Machine Herald to be used to liberate/enslave humankind.

But Victor is never fully emotionless - just before Jayce shoots him, even though Victor probably already knew that it’s going to happen, you can see fear in his eyes.

Later, when he uses a puppet to attack Jayce, he’s sneering - that’s an emotional reaction right there. At first I interpreted it as Hextech just not having that much impact on him, but I realised that in the long run, emotionless Victor is simply not profitable to Hextech. Yes, he needs to follow the plan, but also still needs to care enough about Jayce to go back in time to save him/give him the runestone, so Hextech can be created in the first place.

The only thing that Hextech didn’t forsee was the Z Drive, and no wonder - it was created in a dimension where Hextech has never existed, a technology that in the end works on a completly different principles.

Hextech can manipulate the cause- effect chain, ultimately creating looping timelines, and Z Drive gives an opportunity to just delete the cause, so effect never occurs, rewriting the timeline. Basically it’s creating fate tech vs. defying fate tech.

Z Drive going into proximity of the rune in Jayce’s wrist created a paradox in timespace -a catalyst that started a chain reaction, allowing Jace to free himself and Victor and break the cycle of fate.
