The Great HC-TCG Tournament Finale of Season 9
1/2 of a collaborative work betweeen @shirahoshiumi and myself for the Event Section of @hermitseasonzine !
[ notes + commentary undercut ]
This work is a two parter dedicated to the beginning of Hermitcraft TCG by VintageBeef. In this one - I drew the background and Hoshi drew the hermits of the SECOND HALF to this series so be sure to check our other piece FIRST!
[due to size limitations - this is also a compressed version. You can find the full clearer piece in the zine itself]
An slight in-depth breakdown into some of the design decisions when translating Cub's TCG arena from minecraft to proper architecture for our composition!
Drawing the UI of all the screen would be one of the last things added to the bg. While most of the hermit profiles I did to follow Hoshi's designs, designs of other artists and hermits you can find throughout the zine.
Season 9 was my first exposure to Hermitcraft and to be able to see it through to the end not to mention be a part of a such a beautiful tribute to the season I am grateful. BIIIG honours to have worked on two fantastic pieces with Hoshi, huge shoutout to the other contributors, and many thanks to the mod team for making sure everything stays running ^_^

HermitCraft TCG: Booster Box 2nd Printing!
VintageBeef, Creo, and the Hermits have been working for the last few weeks to figure out how to get y'all more cards so you can build your HermitCraft TCG decks for head-to-head play, so I'm excited to finally be able to share details about the upcoming second printing of the HermitCraft TCG booster boxes!
Here's the details:
The pre-order window for the second printing will run from December 15th–January 15th.
There is no cap on the number of pre-orders we can print, so if you're desperate to expand your collection, skip the scalpers and order from the source!
The second printing boxes will be the same price as the first printing ($50 USD), but will also include an additional pack of item cards to help y'all assemble playable decks easier.
Cards will now include rarity indicators printed on them to help players following certain deck-building rulesets to determine if their decks are tournament-compliant.
The second printing will fix an error with the common FalseSymmetry card, so if you have a first-printing copy of that, hold onto it!
Other than those two changes, there won't be any changes to the art from the first printing.
The Hermits won't be signing any 2nd printing cards before they're packaged, but I hope you'll consider meeting up with us at gaming conventions and card shop events so we can sign some in person for you!
If you'd like to be reminded when the pre-order goes live next week, you can sign up for the waitlist on Creo's website.

Finale: The Final Duel!
Jimmy duels Joel for his master, his cards, and his dignity.
Chapter 5, the final chapter, of my Hermitcraft TCG AU is now live! It's been so much fun working on this fic, and I promise this isn't the last you've seen of this verse. Keep an eye out for Season 2: The Summer Tournament!
A reminder, art in this chapter is by @hybbart, whose beautiful piece inspired this picture perfect finale. Send some love their way!

"Otherwise you just get rolled by people who have enormous decks"
Source: CubTwo's Hermitcraft 9 TCG: Pharaoh vs GoodTimeswithScar [Transcription below]
Scar: I like tournament rules, that- that's fun, I like that.
Cub: Yeah yeah, [unintelligible].
Scar: Otherwise, like, you just get rolled by people who have, like, y'know, enourmous decks and stuff.
Cub: Yeah, I got-
Scar: THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID [cough]
[Cub laughs]

Serverwide megagames (cross server, long term games, with set rules and minimal role play) to enjoy if you get a chance:
Tag: season 6. It's a game of tag, with a name tag being passed between hermits who are it. The game gained rules as it went on, with the tag tower being built and forfeit armour being introduced
The Head Games: season 7. Cleo needs heads for armour stands, so she pits the hermits against each other by putting bounties on their heads. Kill kill kill kill. Cub builds her spider throne
Hot potato: season 6. The goal is to slip a poisoned potato into someone's inventory. Of you have it, you have to do a forfeit and then pass the potato along. It brings us duckwoman and other delights
Iskall's leaf thing: season seven. he needs leaves for the megatree, and he's not gathering them all himself. In teams the hermits must bring his robot shulkers of leaves to potentially win prizes
NFD: season six. Nuggets for diamonds. A serverwide treasure hunt for golden nuggets. You can chuck these nuggets into the NFD machine to potentially win diamonds and diamond blocks
Grian head hunt: season six. Grian has concealed his head around the server. Find them and keep them in a vault. Others may steal them, so hide them well. Most heads wins
Tegg: season eight. Hide the dragon egg. Find the dragon egg. Egg!!
Easter egg hunt: season nine. Look at all these baby hermit eggs jevin has commissioned. Hide your eggs in everyone's bases. The one with the least eggs found wins
Demise: season six. The best game. My beloved demise. The rules are simple. Don't die. No god armour. The dead become greyskins and can trap the living. The winner gets everyone's entrance fee.
Hermitron go: season 5. Ren's baby. Pokémon go but for hermits (is my understanding of it). The hermits loved it
Tag 2 electric boogaloo: season seven. Trap someone to tag them, because grian's feeling mischievous
Hermitcraft tcg: season nine. It's the hermitcraft trading card game. There were tournaments and events and matches galore.
The build off: season six. New hermitville is here with the advent of village and pillage. Whose base is tallest? A number of hermits all think it's theirs
I'd particularly recommend Demise, Cleo's head games, the Easter Egg Hunt, and the Hot Potato

I'm so confused by the hermitcraft TCG tournament organizer (vintageBeef)'s decision to ban rare Mumbo, because it's clear to me that the problematic card in the prankster archetype was always rare Stressmonster (+efficency).
Like, sure the loss of rare Mumbo hurts the deck because mumbo can put in work as a damage dealer; but, the crux of the deck's ideal opener is the Stressmonster + effiency combo, swapping into a fully powered up hermit while your opponent swaps into a hermit with no items.

In the hermitcraft tcg card game tournament on the hermitcraft server, I've now seen Stressffiency combo in prankster-miner hybrid, mono-terraformer, mono-miner, and now mono-builder decks.
I'm beginning (/joke) to suspect the strength rare Mumbo demonstrated which got him banned was a symptom of him happening to synergize with the real format-warper.
The fix I'd suggest would be a change to efficency to nerf it's interaction with Stressmonster while buffing its relevance with other hermits.
Efficency – Effect: Place on any item slot. Counts as an item matching its hermit's type.
This lets you potentially get abilities out a turn sooner (by playing an item card and efficency) and lets it stick around, while still forcing you to invest at least two items worth of item cards into stress if you want her to YOLO. Meaning you don't get nearly as much value from doing that as you could from rushing another hermit's ability. It's in my opinion an overall buff to the card that nerfs the specific problem interaction.
