Game Preview: NFL Wild Card, Los Angeles Chargers vs Houston Texans
Tumblr media
By: BenJArmin Mjunguia
Date: January 11, 2025
Houston Texans host the Los Angeles Chargers today at 3:30 ET, Houston coming off back-to-back division titles, but there are speculations from fans and stats that Texans quarterback CJ Stroud has had a "slump" of a sophomore year at quarterback, throwing 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions for 3,727 yards, compared to his rookie season, throwing 23 touchdowns and 5 interceptions for 4,108 yards. A significant difference, but it doesn't help that you've been sacked 52 times this season compared to 38 in your rookie year.
Houston sits at 10-7 this year, locking up the #4 seed in the AFC playoffs. They have faced injuries this season, losing both starting wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell to season-ending injuries. Stroud has been relying on wide receiver Nico Collins, who caught a season-high 68 catches for 1,007 yards and seven touchdowns.
The Texans also have Joe Mixon and a running back whom they traded for during the offseason. Mixon is coming off another 1,000-yard season and 11 rushing touchdowns, coming close to his season high of 13 back in 2021. Despite missing two games with an ankle injury, Mixon became the Texans' first 1,000-yard rusher since Carlos Hyde in 2019.
However, this offense might struggle against New head coach Jim Harbaugh and the  Los Angeles Chargers defense, ranked #1 in the NFL for points allowed with just 301 points, averaging 17.7 points per game, only where there were six games where the Chargers allowed 20 points or more, the last time they were even close to allowing 300 points in a single season was in 1964.
Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert had a fantastic season, throwing for over 3,800 yards, 23 touchdowns, and only 3 interceptions, not only a season-low for Herbert but also a season-low in franchise history for only 3 interceptions thrown this season.
Herbert has plenty of help from his receivers. Rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey caught 82 passes this season for 1152 yards and 7 touchdowns, and Quentin Johnston had a career year with 55 catches for 711 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Chargers are expected to play running back J. K. Dobbins after being put on IR for an ankle injury. Dobbins was nearly 1,000 yards rushing before his season ended due to injury.
In the wild-card round, it's anybody's game. It's tough to say who will win, but the Chargers do have the better edge.

Five Standouts From Early Days Of Los Angeles Chargers Training Camp
Choosing standouts in the early days of Los Angeles Chargers training camp is like saying who’ll win the Super Bowl. One day a person can have an amazing practice and the next, they barely make a blip. But with August on the horizon, it is worth pointing out who has looked good thus far at Los Angeles Chargers Training Camp. Here are some players that are on my radar so far. Five Standouts From…

The historic unsolved murder of Julia Wallace has been the inspiration for many books and is regarded as one of the most baffling classic murder mysteries. William Herbert Wallace and his wife, Julia, lived in the district of Anfield, Liverpool. William lectured chemistry while Julia was an accomplished pianist.
On the evening of 18 January, 1931, William was attending a meeting at the Liverpool Central Chess Club. While there, he was handed a note which contained a message that came through on the telephone. The note was from a man who identified himself as “R.M. Qualtrough” who asked William to come to “25 Menlove Gardens East” the following evening at 19:30 to discuss an insurance deal. When the aforementioned time was approaching, William made his way to the address by tramcar. When he arrived at the area the address was said to be, he couldn’t find it. He asked a couple of police officers on duty as well as newsagent workers but according to everybody, this address didn’t exist. After searching for around an hour, he gave up and made him way back home. He was on a wild goose chase. He questioned who “R.M. Qualtrough” was and why he sent him to a non-existent address and how he knew he would be at the Liverpool Central Chess Club the previous evening.
When he arrived, William was stumped to find that he couldn’t open either the front door or back door. His next door neighbours, John and Florence Johnston, saw him looking perturbed and asked him what was going on. He walked around to the back again and this time, the door opened. As he entered his home, he was met by a ghastly scene. Lying in front of the gas fire in the living room was the bloody body of Juliet. “They’ve finished her, look at her brains…” a pale disturbed William exclaimed to the Johnstons. Police shortly arrived to assess the scene. Due to a major strike in 1919 that led to half of the force being dismissed, the handling of the investigation was a complete and utter shambles from the start.
The murder was a frenzied and brutal one indicating that the killer was most likely covered in blood. William didn’t have a spot on blood on him. In addition, an investigation of the sinks and drains revealed that they had not been used indicating the killer had left the home while drenched in Julia’s blood. Despite the fact that there was no evidence against him, investigators began to question whether William had killed his wife. It was uncovered that the phone call had come from a booth 400 yards from the Wallace household and they questioned why the door had opened when other witnesses were nearby. However, the reconstruction of times surrounding the murder swayed in William’s favour. Many people could place him on the tram at 19:06 and several witnesses saw Julia at 18:45 meaning that William would have only had 15 minutes to kill his wife, clean himself up, dispose of the murder weapon and clothing, and catch the tram.
Nevertheless, William was charged with murder and stood trial at Liverpool Assizes. All of the evidence against him was purely circumstantial yet he was found guilty and sentenced to death. However, the Court of Criminal Appeal quashed this verdict because it was “not supported by the weight of the evidence.” William was set free. He passed away two years later. To this day, nobody has ever been charged with Julia’s murder.

AJ’s Analysis- Week One Preview⚡️:
Raiders at Chargers
Disclaimer: I am a Chargers fan so this will obviously be biased BUT I have been a football fan for the last 12 years and absolutely love dissecting the game and making comments so I figured I would give this a try! Please feel free to make comments and let me know your thoughts in my inbox!
Players to watch:
Los Angeles
Justin Herbert QB- Oregon- Year 5🩵
Pookie. Angel. Perfect prince. Idk. He’s just my favorite player in the NFL to watch. The arm talent, the decision making, the…everything. Ok so, this is honestly his coming out year. He’s finally got a coaching staff that is competent and hopefully working in an offense that doesn’t put the weight of the world on his shoulders. He’s also coming off of finger surgery and a minor foot injury so he should be healthy and ready to take over the league. Simple. I can’t wait to watch.
Stats: carried the team on his back pretty much all of last season, lost a finger nail, lost most of his sanity and then lost his season to a broken right index finger. Best game last year by far was the week 10 loss against the Lions where he threw for 323 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Cameron Dicker Kicker- Texas- Year 3
Little angel bean. Best kicker in the league. No further comments.
JK Dobbins RB- Ohio State- Year 5
Coming off of an Achilles injury and trying to shed the “injury prone” rumors, Dobbins is set to make his Chargers debut. One important thing to note, he’s only fumbled twice in his career…iykyk
Joe Alt RT- Notre Dame- Year 1
Here we go people! Fifth overall pick, mixed reviews from the audience. I’m rooting for him and the entire o-line to be much improved so I hope this first test shows that this investment in the “trenches” was worth it.
Khalil Mack EDGE/LB- Buffalo- Year 11
Recorded six sacks the first time these teams met last year. Was drafted by the Raiders in 2014 and has 100 career sacks, last season being one of his best in the last five years with 45 solo tackles and 17 sacks.
Joey Bosa DE/EDGE - Ohio State- Year 9
Also trying to shake injury prone rumors but seems to have taken on a new outlook and a new sense of excitement and motivation due to this new regime. Played in 9 games last season, starting 5 and still finished with 6.5 sacks. Honestly, looking forward to Joey making a big impact this season.
WR Room
I’ll preface this by saying I still miss Keenan Allen BUT ready to move forward. Very excited for Josh Palmer to get his time to shine hope he can stay healthy. DJ Chark excites me I’m gonna need to see some big plays from him. Quentin Johnston needs to have a breakout season. Ladd and Brenden are rookies but I need some huge contributions from them. Simi I know will show out when his number is called and if Derius the punt return king gets some targets I know he’s gonna put on a show. Nervous but excited to see how this goes!
Las Vegas
Gardner Minshew QB- Washington State- Year 6
Played in all 17 games for the Indianapolis Colts last year, made 13 starts and somehow always seems to know exactly what a team needs to get a win when his number is called. On his third team in his NFL career, looking to prove himself so he should come out looking to make a statement to keep his starting spot over AOC. Made the Pro Bowl last year with 305 completions and 3,305 passing yards, both career highs.
Davante Adams WR- Fresno State- Year 11
Your favorite wide receiver studies his film. Six Pro Bowls, three-time First team all pro, 39 games with 100+ receiving yards and has 9,637 receiving yards over the span of his career. Will get targets, will catch the ball and will probably score a touchdown (hopefully not two but who knows) this weekend.
Brock Bowers TE- Georgia- Year 1
Rookie Tight End making his NFL debut. Voted First Team All American by just about every single sports outlet in the country last season. Had 56 catches for 714 yards and six touchdowns for the Bulldogs in a 13-1 season falling short of a 3-peat not making the college football playoff but defeated Florida State 63-3 in the 2023 Capital One Orange Bowl.
Maxx Crosby DE- Eastern Michigan- Year 6
AKA Mad Maxx, neck tats can play football. Played in all 17 games last year and started. Heart and soul of the Raiders defense with 48 solo tackles and 14.5 sacks. Did get shaken out of his shoes by Justin last time and I’m sure he didn’t forget so he’ll be coming for vengeance.
Christian Wilkins DT- Clemson- Year 6
Entering his first season with the Raiders after a very successful five years in Miami. Recorded an NFL high 9 sacks for defensive tackles last season, started all 17 games and recovered two fumbles. Wilkins makes this Raiders defense a lot scarier and this will be a great first test for the often shaky Chargers o-line.
⏳FLASHBACK⌛️
Last time these two teams met, we all remember where we were…
Tumblr media
1. Justin was injured, fresh off of surgery and Easton’s presence in the pocket is like a kid running late for curfew, very rushed and deer in the headlights
2. Defense quit and was ready to start fresh having lost faith in the entire coaching staff
3. We were all praying on the Charger downfall on this day and got what we wanted so sorry Coach Staley but…not sorry
Tumblr media
Had to include this because baldy is gone and I couldn’t stand him. This was very embarrassing.
That’s it for week one!!!
Bolt the absolute fuck up

'IS NO TIME FOR LIQUOR' 2 MUNITION WORKERS TOLD,” Toronto Star. April 1, 1942. Page 8. --- Police Found Herbert McKinnon and Cecil Kay Sound Asleep in Auto --- CAR WAS DITCHED ---- Special to The Star Whitby, April 1 - "This is no time for liquor," Magistrate F. S. Ebbs told two munitions workers who appeared before him on charges of drunk driving. Provincial police said both had been found in the same car, so intoxicated they could not be awakened, so they charged each man.
Herbert McKinnon pleaded guilty and was sentenced to seven days. dating back to the time of his arrest. He was also assessed costs or an additional seven days, his car was ordered impounded for three months, and his license suspended for three months. Cecil Kay pleaded not guilty and was acquitted. Kay admitted having liquor illegally in a public place and being intoxicated. He was fined $10 and costs or 10 days.
Police stated they found the car "ditched" on the heavily travelled road to the plant, south of No. 2 highway.
Warns All Others "I think a warning should be issued right now to these men and all others engaged in war work," said the magistrate. "These cases are becoming altogether too frequent. These are serious offences particularly in view of the fact that the road to the plant is very heavily travelled and there have been numerous accidents on it lately.
"I believe this is one of the most heavily travelled strips of road in Canada. Some people seem to insist on using it while intoxicated; fortunately, not many are in the extreme state of intoxication these claimed men were in," the crown commented.
Provincial Constable James Sutherland said he and Provincial Traffic Officer Gilbert Robertson had been driving down the road early in the morning of March 25. "Half-way down to the railroad bridge we noticed a car in a five-foot ditch, facing slightly northwest," said witness. "The front of the car was almost buried in mud and when we stopped to investigate we found Kay lying behind the wheel in the front seat and McKinnon in the back. They were so intoxicated we couldn't wake them up and we finally had to carry them to the police car." The officer stated the McKinnon car was also in the ditch on the wrong side of the road.
"McKinnon said he had driven the car, got out to get a shovel and then knew no more. The left front door was so jammed we couldn't get it open."
Had Three Drinks Kay said he had never driven the car. He claimed that he and McKinnon had been "working double- shift and just came off work when a fellow asked us to have a drink with him. I had three drinks." He admitted having a bottle of liquor in the car and said it had been given him "by a man in the plant parking lot.”
McKinnon told the court he had driven several workers to Whitby and was on his way back when the car went into the ditch. "When we couldn't find the shovel there was nothing we could do but stay there till morning. I wasn't drunk when I was driving. It was when I lay down that the whiskey hit me," he claimed. "I drove the car all the time. It's my car," McKinnon asserted.
"What were you doing in the back seat when Kay was in the front," Crown Attorney Allin Annis inquired. McKinnon said both had been riding in the front seat and that he had crawled over the back of it to search for the shovel.
“I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt, Kay. There's some doubt as to why you were behind the wheel, but I'm going to accept the evidence on this point and dismiss this charge against you," the court ruled.
"From now on we are going to have to deal with such cases far more severely. You don't look like the ordinary type of men who get into such difficulties. You are engaged in very important work requiring that you be in first-class physical condition."
Martin Hickey, munitions worker, pleaded not guilty on charges of wounding Corporal Robert Watson of the plant staff of guards, assaulting Corporal Watson, and assaulting Jack Johnston, caretaker of his bunkhouse.
Magistrate Ebbs convicted him of assaulting the constable and reserved his decision on the other two charges.

Was Chargers WR Quentin Johnston’s catch vs. Chiefs a career-changer?
EL SEGUNDO — If there was a moment when Quentin Johnston showed the known football universe that he had finally evolved into the wide receiver the Chargers always believed he could be, it was in the early minutes of a game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Dec. 8 at Arrowhead Stadium. Johnston ran a precise route deep into the Chiefs’ secondary, caught a pass from Justin Herbert for a 21-yard…

Chargers keep playoff hopes alive
Tumblr media
The Los Angeles Chargers played the second half of their Thursday Night Football game against the Denver Broncos like a desperate team trying to keep its playoff hopes alive. And well they should have.  Lose and they would fall back two games to the Broncos for second place in the AFC West Division. Win and the Chargers would find themselves back in the playoff hunt. Justin Herbert and the Chargers chose to win.  Herbert and the Chargers rallied from a halftime deficit to beat the Broncos 34-27 in a game they had to come up victorious.

Photo credit: Melinda Meijer/Courtesy of The Compton Bulletin/File Photo “We talked about it all week, how important these games are, especially in December and January and we knew the implications of it,” Herbert said after the game. “We emphasized all week, ‘Hey this is a playoff game to us.’ It's the environment, it's the team. obviously a very talented and incredible team, so for us to be able to pull away with one there, I thought it was awesome for us.” The battle for second place in the AFC West was a tale of two halves. Bo Nix and the Broncos were going up and down the field against the NFL’s No. 1 scoring defense, generating 16 first downs and three touchdowns to lead at intermission.  Down 21-13, Herbert and the offense of the Chargers got themselves together for a strong second-half showing. The Chargers outscored Denver 21-6 in the third and fourth quarters to seal their ninth win of the season.  “It really starts in that locker room,” Herbert said. “Every single guy in that locker room gives their all. So it's my responsibility to give my all. We really play for each other, we play for the Chargers organization and we care about each other. When you're in that environment, it's easy to go out there and give it your all. I know that I'm in great condition, I'm safe to be out there and we just got it done tonight.”  After giving up a ton of first downs to the Broncos in the first half, the Chargers defense put Nix and Denver’s offense on lockdown, holding the Broncos to just six first downs and six points in the last two quarters.
Tumblr media
Los Angeles Chargers placekicker Cameron Dicker (11) has provided the team with a steady foot this season. Photo credit: Melinda Meijer/Courtesy of The Compton Bulletin/File Photo “Obviously, a disappointing loss,” Denver head coach Sean Payton said. “It was disappointing because there was a lot at stake and we know that. We had a fast start, I was encouraged by that. Then uncharacteristically this season, we didn't finish or play nearly well enough in the second half, both offensively and defensively.”  After the game, Nix summed up Denver’s second-half meltdown pretty simply.  “Well, we didn't come out and execute like we did in the first half and didn't get as many yards and touchdowns,” Nix said.   If the Chargers play their final two opponents (the New England Patriots and the Las Vegas Raiders) the way they played the second half against Denver, they should be in good shape to make the postseason.   “Just a total team effort by everybody,” Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said. “Defense, offense, special teams. The guys. Just pull it down. It was phenomenal. Talking about it the other day, it’s a test, it’s a challenge. It’s how you’ve got to respond. I knew how our guys would respond and they did, but that was the guys. They just went back to work and stayed the course.” Read the full article

"A doink for the division." Chiefs hold off the Chargers for the ninth consecutive division title on Sunday Night Football.
Tumblr media
by BenJarmin Munguia
date: December 9, 2024
The Kansas City Chiefs did it again; they've now won 15 straight one-score games, the longest active streak in the NFL. But this one's for the division title,
The Chiefs beat the Los Angeles Chargers 17-19 with a game-winning 31-yard field goal that "doinked." off the upright to go in; as NBC broadcaster Mike Trico put it, "A drink for the division." the Chiefs clinch their ninth straight division title,
Kansas City took a commanding 13-0 lead at halftime, with Patrick Mahomes throwing a 9-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, in the 2nd quarter, would be the Chiefs' only touchdown in the game. Justin Herbert was injured in the 2nd quarter with a leg injury but returned.
In the third quarter, it was all Chargers; Los Angeles shut out the Chiefs 14-0, led by Gush Edwards 4-yard score; then, on the very next drive, Herbert found Quentin Johnston for a 4-yard touchdown pass, and the Chargers took their first lead of the night 14-13,
In the fourth quarter, the Chargers were up 17-16 with 3:38 left in the game. Chargers kicker Cam Dicker kicked the ball to the Chiefs, but it did not go in the landing zone, penalizing the Chargers and putting the ball at the Chiefs' 40-yard line, which Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense would use to their advantage.
With 13 plays and 47 yards, including a key 9-yard pass from Mahomes to Kelce on a third and 7 at the Los Angeles 20-yard line, the Chiefs let the clock go at 1 second, then Matthew Wright kicked the game-winning 31-yard field goal.
Patrick Mahomes completed 24 of his 37 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown, connecting to eight different receivers. Travis Kelce caught five passes for 45 yards, while DeAndre Hopkins also caught five passes for 32 yards and the Chiefs' only touchdown.
Justin Herbert also connected to eight different receivers. Joshua Palmer hauled in six passes for 73 yards, and Quentin Johnson (who struggled the last three games) caught five passes for 48 yards and a touchdown.
Gus Edwards carried the ball 10 times for the Chargers for 36 yards and a touchdown.
Kansas City Chiefs improve to 12-1 with a playoff spot, but they've also won the last seven matchups vs the Chargers. The second-longest winning streak in their rivalry's history.
The Chiefs will start their quest to clinch home-field advantage with a road trip to Ohio to take on the Cleveland Browns, while the Chargers will fall to 8-5 and continue to keep their playoff hopes alive with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coming to Los Angeles, which is also looking to keep its playoff hopes alive.

Indiana Jones’ Signature Fedora Sells For A Whopping $630,000
A Deep-Pocketed Collector Can Now Say They Are, In Fact, "The Man With the Hat."
— By Laura Sirikul | August 16, 2024
Tumblr media
The Famous Fedora Worn By Harrison Ford in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" Was Auctioned For $630,000. Photo Courtesy of © Propstore
When most people think of Indiana Jones, the first image that pops up is Harrison Ford wearing his signature fedora. The hat became an iconic character itself within the franchise, gaining a tag line on 1989’s poster for The Last Crusade: “The man with the hat is back!” Indy was even willing to risk his life to grab his signature accessory, snagging it back from beneath a descending door in 1984’s Temple of Doom.
So it came as no surprise that Propstore, a film and TV memorabilia company, revealed it had sold one of Indiana Jones’ screen-and-photo-matched fedoras for an outstanding $630,000. While Indiana Jones wore multiple fedoras throughout the five films, this particular topper was from The Temple of Doom.
Propstore’s backstory on the hat notes it was crafted by the Herbert Johnson Hat Company in London, and was designed by Johnson with Temple of Doom costume designers Anthony Powell and Joanna Johnston. It’s a slightly tweaked design compared to the hat seen in Raiders of the Lost Ark, and according to the auction house, it “matches film shots, production stills, and behind-the-scenes footage of Ford in the village set on location in Sri Lanka, in the mine cart chase shot at Elstree Studios, and in the river sequence shot in the U.S. The hat was also worn by the late stunt performer Dean Ferrandini.”
Tumblr media
© Lucasfilm
The auction catalog gives this detailed description: “The fedora is made of sable-colored rabbit felt and features a dark brown ribbon and a leather sweatband imprinted with the Herbert Johnson Hat Company name and address, as well as a tag marked size 7 1/4 (size 59 European.) The sweatband is notably stamped with the initials ‘I J’ in gold, a feature applied specifically to the hats Herbert Johnson made for the three original installments of the Indiana Jones saga. It also features some makeup residue at the front of the sweatband. The style, placement, and size of the markings are all consistent with other known authentic examples of Temple of Doom fedoras.”
The hat was previously owned by Ferrandini, who died last year, and the auction lot also included unpublished photos of Ferrandini in his Indiana Jones costumes and a letter of authenticity signed by his wife.
Propstore’s current auction of entertainment memorabilia contains more than 1,400 additional lots—including more Indiana Jones curios, such as this unsettling “Roasted Pig and Piglets Banquet Dish” prop from a deleted Temple of Doom scene.

Bruce Willis and Spencer Breslin team up to solid effect, in a film that produces amusement and wholesomeness. I find the premise very interesting, it’s a cool concept. While they might not executed to 100% perfection, what’s given is entertaining to see unfold. There are some very sweet scenes, also. Willis is, as you’d expect, the best part of this, but I think Breslin does a grand job too. The latter tended to do these sorta roles a lot, but there’s a reason for that as he played them convincingly. Emily Mortimer (Amy) is als...
