My dear friend @kathleengips gave me a couple of canes from her raspberries. We prepared a special bed for them and I’m so excited! From a friend...I love this just so much! “It's not a coincidence that barns and many farmhouses are painted red. Farmers didn't have a lot of money to buy paint, and so they started to experiment with what they had on hand: skimmed milk, lime, and red iron oxide— that combined, these materials created a protective red coating for woodwork, and on many farms today, buildings are still painted red to honor this tradition. Wow...I never knew that going back and forth to the farm where my mom grew up. A little nugget of knowledge to take you forth into this mad mad world of ours. Life on the #HerbanFarm. One of the things I loved about living in the country was that I had everything I needed to take care of us. Here in the city I knew we were going to need a generator sooner than later and why not? With the winds as strong as they’ve been and climate change staring us down, it pays to become as self sufficient as you can, even in the city...this duel fuel baby can power both sides of our house and not break a sweat..Next stop? Wood stoves in both sides of the house. I’m preparing to hunker down. 😂 we lost power last night and it’s still not back 15 hours later.
