Leia Organa, Hera Syndulla, and Omega all being in the Rebellion at the same time means we have a treasure trove of opportunities for the three of them just being Grade-A Bosses together. (It’s a dangerous combination, and I want to see it so much.)

As excited as I am for the Sabine and Ezra reunion (because oooh boy am I excited) the thought of a Ezra and Hera reunion has got me even more emotional.
That is his mom, the first person to believe in him, the one who was always there for him even sometimes more than Kanan. The only maternal figure he’s had since he was seven who he never thought he’d see again
And that is her son, the boy she watched grow from a clumsy kid into a young man. The boy who might not be their biological child like Jacen, but reminds her so much of the love of her life. The boy who she thought had died to save his family just like Kanan had.
And then you throw him finding out about/meeting Jacen into the mix
I just 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
I will start bawling on the spot and that is a threat.

In Another Life
Synopsis:
When Ezra left and sacrificed himself, He didn't just leave behind his family and friends but the person who he promised to love. When Sabine finds him, he learned not to ask certain things
Genre: Angst.
Note: This is from Ezra's point of view. And AFAB reader and yes Katy Perry reference because ugh it hurts so bad.
_________________________________
How long has it been? How long has he been stuck here, wherever here really was. How long has it been since he lost it all for the sake of saving his home planet? He really didn't know, perhaps he also doesn't want to know. Sure he knows that somewhere deep inside that his friends-no his family is looking for him. Sabine would use that stubborn head if hers just to find him, he bets that Hera and Zeb would do the same although a bit subtle, and you, his lovely girl, he just knows that you're out there somewhere using all your connections. He smiles at that.
He closes his eyes remembering the night before his sacrifice. The sky was beautiful in Lothal, the Loth cats surround you both in the field he found. The sky was beautiful but they couldn't compare to you.
"Ezra, do you think when the Empire is destroyed, we can grow up like normal teenagers and adults?" You asked him so meekly.
He had to take a breath before he answered since he remembered the little message he recorded for you and Sabine.
"I sure hope so. I would like to not always be in a life and death situation and it would ease my mind to know that you aren't in one as well." Ezra said as he looked at you.
"Maybe we can live in your tower, have a pet Loth cat and maybe we can visit Sabine in Mandalore too." You said hopeful.
Ezra feels guilty for what he knows he's going to do and honestly he doesn't know what to say or how to tell you that with what he's planning to do, he might not even get that future with you. So he lies with a smile instead, adding onto your fantasy, one that he's had in a while as well.
"How many Loth cats do you want? We can have as much as you want. I can even move some of my prized helmets to make more space for us." Ezra said as he closed his eyes.
"The helmets, we should put them in a nice glass case so we can admire all the helmets you've collected. And we can put your lightsaber on display." You said happily.
That was the last happy memory he had with you. The day he chose to exile himself, you were knocked unconscious during a fight, this didn't get to hear Ezra's farewell. He asked Sabine to watch over you and tell you that he loves you and that he was sorry.
After that all he's known were these creatures native to this planet. He was in exile but Thrawn found this time to rebuild and make connections with the dark mothers and the other scavengers on this planet. While he lived on the run, once again protecting these creatures that he slowly began to care for.
When Sabine arrived on the planet that she told him was called Peridea, she mentioned how he's been gone for a decade. The resistance won, the empire, the emperor and Darth Vader were all gone. Luke Skywalker brought back the Jedi Order, Leia Organa is now a senator, Hera is now a general and a mother, Kallus and Zeb are married and that she was living in his tower. It was night time already and the rest of the alien friends that Ezra had made were fast asleep. Happy as he might be hearing those life stories he asked Sabine the most important one to him.
"Where's (Y/N) now? What's she up to nowadays? Is she with someone? I mean I wouldn't mind if she was, I mean I've been gone for a decade she can do that. I mean I also just left without a goodbye an-" Sabine cut off Ezra's ramblings.
Sabine looked sullen and wracked with guilt as she looked at Ezra. He knew, he had a feeling that whatever he would hear, this wasn't going to be any good.
"Ezra, after you left, (Y/N) decided that she was going to try and find you. She searched everywhere, until Cassian Andor and her met. He recruited her into a mission to steal the blueprints of the death star." Sabine said solemnly.
"And? You said we won. I guess they succeeded then." Ezra said.
"They did. They succeeded which in turn allowed us to win, but at the cost of everyone part of that mission's lives." Sabine concluded.
Ezra felt his heart shatter. You were dead? The one who kept him sane on this planet, one of his reasons to return. You were well and truly gone? He never got to apologize to you for abandoning you. He hasn't told you how being apart from you was like losing half of himself in the process, how the sun doesn't shine as brightly. How he loves you and longs for you. Now all these words will be left unsaid.
"I'm sorry Ezra. I failed to protect her and I couldn't keep my promise." Sabine apologized, teary eyed.
And Ezra snapped out of his downward spiral. He may have lost the love of his life but for Sabine, she lost her sister, she lost the person who she considered her best friend and he hugged her.
"I'm sorry I made you relive all that." Ezra apologized.
"Don't apologize Ezra. I knew you'd ask about her. When (Y/N) died, I felt it in the force, Ahsoka did too. We felt frozen when that happened. I felt so useless. I talked to her before they executed the mission. I told her that I thought I had a lead on you and I got mad when she said that it didn't matter if I told her or not." Sabine said softly.
She wiped her tears as she looked up at the sky.
"I guess she just didn't want to tell me that it was a suicide mission. That no matter what happens, she would end up. Dead. She didn't leave a message like you did. But apparently she left letters. So once you get back, ask chopper about it." Sabine said a sad smile on her face.
"You know, it's funny how life works. I sacrificed myself so that she can find a way to live peacefully and she does the same thing. Funny how I'm still alive and she isn't." Ezra said looking up at the night sky.
Sabine let Ezra rest his head on her shoulder as he let out a deep exhale. He was saddened by the news, that wasn't really surprising. Sabine used to tell you that you and Ezra were made to be together. It's why she was so utterly devastated by your loss. She knew that if she ever found Ezra telling him about your untimely death and sacrifice would break his heart.
"You know we both moved into your tower. She arranged your helmet collection when she got enough credit to buy a nice case. She said it was her way of fulfilling both of your dreams." Sabine said trying to lighten up the mood.
"She did? I thought she'd be mad at me and throw them out or sell them." Ezra said.
"Nah, (Y/N) cared for those helmets and told me that if anyone tried to take those away from her to put on display since they made a mural of us in Lothal, she said she would steal them." Sabine said chuckling to herself.
"Oh knowing (Y/N) she would even care if people saw her stealing it. She'd say something along the lines of 'its private property and you took it' or 'is it really theft if I own it?'. She's too snarky to get caught." Ezra said with a smile.
"Word of advice, when you return to your tower in Lothal, there's a box labelled with her name on it. Inside is this really thick journal she has. It's addressed to you." Sabine said as she moved to her designated resting spot, beside her howler.
"I thought you lived in the tower?" Ezra asked.
"I did but it was more like ensuring that you'd have a familiar place to return too. Plus there's a loth cat there, use your weird animal speech thing." Sabine joked.
"Thanks Sabine." Ezra said.
When the time came for their escape from Peridea, sure he was alone in Thrawn's ship once more, as Sabine decided to stay behind with Ahsoka. A decision he accepted as he watched as his friend and someone he sees as a sister fight side by side just to get him home.
Once back to the galaxy he once left behind, he had a feeling of both excitement and happiness but also longing. He was excited to see his family. He hasn't seen Hera, Zeb, Kallus and chopper in so long and now he has a new face to see, the last link he has of his late master, Jacen. Yet he can never fully feel at home, not when a piece of him was lost forever once he learned of your demise from Sabine.
When he arrived at the resistance base, it was bittersweet. Hugging Hera felt like he was grounded back in reality. He was home, but not really. Home would've been in your arms, in his tower in Lothal, living out your days in domestic bliss. So once he's caught up with everyone, he asks Hera if he can go back to Lothal, to his tower. Hera didn't object, just led him to the ghost with Jacen chattering away. He felt happy seeing Jacen, so young and full of life. He would make for a great Jedi one day.
"We're here Ezra." Hera spoke as she opened the ship's door and lowered its ramp on Ezra's tower.
"We'll visit you often uncle Ezra!" Jacen said happily.
"If you need anything, just message us on our commlink." Hera added.
"Yeah, thanks again Hera. Take care of yourself now, okay Jacen? Don't be reckless." Ezra said trying faux seriousness.
"Of course!" Jacen said happily.
As soon as the ghost was out of sight, he entered the doors, the lock was still the same. Once inside he noticed the subtle changes. Bunk beds, a chest under the lower bunk with Sabine's things, a small bed for a loth cat, and in the far corner, next to a glass case filled with his collection of helmets was a chest with your name on it. He immediately walks towards it, opening it delicately. There he sees four journals, all labelled, for Ezra.
He opens the very first one and a soft smile graces his lips.
Sabine and I moved into your tower. We wanted to stay close to Lothal, keep it safe and also to form some roots. We have been very busy though.
Dear Ezra,
We moved into your tower, we wanted to stay close to Lothal. Watch over your home planet as much as we can. Although we have been quite busy. Since we are now formally part of the resistance, we have been taking a lot of missions. Sometime together, sometimes apart. I miss you. I wish I wasn't knocked unconscious when you left. I would have loved to hear your voice one last time. I'm not giving up though. In between missions I ask around if people have any known locations of a star whale's path. I may come up empty handed but it won't stop me from trying. I know you're out there. We'll find you. I promise.
Yours always, (Y/N).
But Ezra wanted to look for one specific letter, the one Sabine said was written before your mission with Cassian Andor. Once he picked up the last journal, he realized it only had one entry in it.
Dear Ezra,
I'm so sorry my search has been quite fruitless. Sabine and I never gave up though. I write this last entry now a few days away from our intended mission. We still need to find a certain person but by then we'll be too busy fixing our plan and I won't be able to write anymore. Something about this mission tells me that it might be our last. The blueprints of the death star are highly guarded and the planet is crawling with empire scum. Cassian told me that, he believes we can all go home. I don't really believe that. I hope you won't be too mad or upset with me. I am doing this so that we can no longer live in fear for the next day. For what the empire might do to us. I know that wherever you may be, I know that my love will reach you. I hope Sabine can continue what we started and find a way to get you back. Perhaps in another life, we could have the life that we talked about in that field. Maybe more. I would have loved to see what our future would have been like. To grow old with you, build a life together and a home. In another life, I know we would have had a happy life but I would never ask you to change. My Starboy. My Ezra. My love. My heart is yours forever and always. May the force be with you.
Forever yours, (Y/N).
Ezra clutched that journal to his chest, letting his tears fall freely down his face. He has time to read the other journals next time but for now he wishes to close his eyes and dream of a life where he never left and you lived past twenty. But he knows that you'll always be with him. In the force and in his heart. In your words, He's forever yours.

Every time I remember that Hera was only 24 at the beginning of Rebels my brain goes "well that can NOT be right" so I have to check and lo and behold she was in fact 24, she's just accomplished more than 99% of the other inhabitants of the galaxy

hello!!! sosoosososo sw rebels. gn reader and ezra and reader have a sibling relationship. in my mind its like zeb and ezra but tamer .. if you can somehow fit hurt/comfort into the story thatd be fun!!! but ty for reading and doing this request if you do!!! 🫶🫶
I don't know if this is tamer than Ezra and Zeb but it's kinda like a mashup of Ezra and Zeb and Ezra and Sabine. That being said be ready for my favorite Star Wars ship and the parents of the Ghost family to be very good parents.
Also Hera's voice actress also voices Black Canary on Young Justice and between this and the Shadow Of A Bluejay series I think you can tell I want her to be my mom.
Am I slightly projecting? Is the reader Autistic coded? Who knows but I found myself projecting my own communication issues on Mandalorians so...

"Y/N"...
"Y/N"...
The doors to your room opened but you didn't look up, you were after all very comfortable on your top bunk polishing your blaster.
"You know one micro movement and I can splatter your insides on that wall right?" You asked, still not looking up from your blaster.
"You wouldn't do that" Ezra said confidently.
"I might not mean to, seeing as you keep coming in here without knocking" You told the slightly younger boy. He rolled his eyes.
"I was calling your name" Ezra said.
"And I wasn't listening" You replied.
"Well that's not my fault" He said.
"What do you want anyway shorty?" You asked and that got to him.
"We are the same height!" He exclaimed.
"No we're not" You said calmly.
"It is by half a centimeter, it's the same height" He insisted.
"No. It's not" You reiterated.
"You know what, forget it" Ezra said, storming out of your room.
"Oh come on, you know I'm joking" You said, finally putting the blaster away and going after Ezra.
It had only been a few months since the kid joined, maybe you were a bit too comfortable with your teasing but you thought it was a game.
"Ezra come back here!" You yelled after the little streak of blue hair you saw running out of the open hull of the Ghost.
"What's going on here exactly?" Hera asked, she'd heard yelling and saw Ezra run off.
"He just ran off!" You told her but she raised a brow in question.
"Okay, maybe there was some teasing but he came into my room without knocking. That's against the rules" You told her.
"You gotta let up on him, he's not used to... well to you yet. And you can be a lot sometimes kid" She said. You supposed she was right. She was far from the first person to tell you that.
Still you looked out at the direction that Ezra ran to. You were parked by a mountain with some caves on Lothal, decently far from any major cities and very much in the middle of nowhere so he had to come back sooner or later... right?
Later came and he still wasn't back. It was getting closer to sunset and you were getting worried.
"He'll be back before sundown, don't worry so much" Kanan told you as you paced the hull of the Ghost. He still wasn't back. He must have been really mad at you.
You grumbled, "I didn't mean to upset him so much, really I— I just—"
"Hey" Kanan said, lightly shaking your shoulder, "He'll come back and you'll tell him just that." he said.
Do you really think he'll come back?" You asked.
"It's not like he'd spend the night in a cave" Kanan said. Well nighttime rolled in and Ezra still wasn't back.
"That's it. I'm going to find him" You said, grabbing a flashlight and walking out.
"Aren't you going to stop them?" Zeb asked but Kanan just shrugged.
"They're big kids, they'll figure this out themselves" He said, "Besides when was the last time it was this quiet on here?" He asked, kicking back and laying his feet on the holotable.
Chopper beeped sassily.
"Yeah well no one asked for your opinions chop" Kanan retorted.
You started by going in the direction you saw Ezra run in hours ago but it's been so long he could practically be anywhere.
"Ezra!" You called out.
"Ezra! It's me! Can you please come back?" You yelled out into the mountains and heard it echoing back.
"Great" You grumbled. You kept walking, the flashlight and the stars being the only ones lighting your way.
You eventually found Ezra, sitting in the entrance of a shallow cave carved into one of the mountains.
"Ezra?" You asked and he scooted away from you.
"What do you want?" He asked and you stopped. Every step closer to him you took he kept scooting away on the floor of the cave.
"It's dark..." You said, trailing off.
"Yeah, and what do you care?" He asked.
"Well you weren't back and everyone was worried" You answered.
"So where's everyone else?" He asked.
"Well..."
"Just leave me alone." He said.
"Look, I get it, your mad at me and maybe a crossed a line but can you please just come back to the Ghost? It's dangerous out here" You tried to tell him.
"I'm fine. I made it out here all on my own before and I can do it again" Ezra said.
"Yeah but you don't have to. Come on Ezra, let's just go home and—"
"The Ghost is not my home!" He yelled and it echoed through the cave.
"Ezra"
"I get it, you don't like me, you don't have to pretend. Just go away and leave me alone" Ezra said, turning his back to you.
"You know what? Fine! Die alone in a cave for all I care, I'm going back to the Ghost! You do whatever you want" You said and stormed off.
When you came back to the Ghost alone Kanan looked a bit worried.
"You didn't find him?" He asked.
"Oh I found him but if he wants to be a jerk he can be a jerk in a cave." You said, walking past him and straight back to your room.
Hera, who had been sitting beside Kanan looked at him.
"Do you wanna take the moody teenager or the runaway kid?" She asked and Kanan sighed.
"I'll take the kid" He said and went out to find Ezra meanwhile Hera went to knock on your door.
It didn't take Kanan long to find Ezra, still holed up in the cave where you found him, throwing pebbles at the walls of the cave in frustration and grumbling to himself.
"Hey" Kanan said.
"Hey" Ezra replied and Kanan took a seat on the ground o the cave.
"You had us a bit worried back there" Kanan said.
"Yeah well I only go where I'm wanted." Ezra said.
"We want you on the Ghost. You know that" Kanan told him.
"Y/N obviously doesn't" The boy replied.
"Sit down" Kanan told him and Ezra turned around.
"What for?" He asked.
"Just do it" Kanan said and Ezra eventually did, sitting down beside the older Jedi.
"Why do you think Y/N doesn't want you around?" Kanan asked his padawan.
"Cause" Ezra replied.
"Cause what?" Kanan asked.
"Cause they're always such a jerk. I mean, I just wanted to ask if they wanted to hang out and they were—" "Being Y/N?" Kanan asked.
"Well yeah" Ezra replied.
"Listen, I'm gonna tell you something but you have to promise not to tell anyone I told you" Kanan said.
"Why?" Ezra asked.
"Cause if Y/N found out I told you they'd have my head" Kanan replied humorously before clearing his throat a bit.
"Y/N's a bit rougher around the edges than the rest of us, well except maybe Chopper" Kanan began.
"You're telling me" Ezra grumbled.
"But there's a good reason for it. They lost everything when they were really young and the Empire took over Mandalore." Kanan explained, "They survived by being tough. By not showing any weakness and the verbal sparring just came along naturally"
"So they're trying to show me they're tough?" Ezra asked.
"No, they're showing you that they think you're tough and that they care about you" Kanan explained.
"They don't talk that way to people they aren't close to or that they think are weak. And sometimes they take it too far but if anything that's because they think you can take it" He continued.
"So what? All those things are jokes to him? Cause they're not funny" Ezra told him.
"Then tell them that." Kanan told Ezra.
Meanwhile on the Ghost Hera knocked on your door.
"Y/N? May I come in?" She asked.
"Don't bother" You told her but the door still opened and Hera still came in.
"Kanan went to go get Ezra" She said.
"Good for him" You grumbled.
"Do you want to tell me what's going on?" Hera asked and you sighed.
"He hates me" You told her.
"Ezra doesn't hate you, he's upset but he doesn't hate you" Hera said. climbing up to sit beside you on your bunk.
"Yes he does. I went too far again and he hates me" You told her and she sighed.
Ezra didn't reply, he stared off into the dark sky outside the cave.
"They went looking for you when you didn't come back. They didn't mean to go too far" Kanan told Ezra, "And sometimes Y/N doesn't always know how far to take it but trust me kid, they care about you. Heck, they care about you enough to go after you and bring you back. That's not nothing"
"Yeah, I guess" Ezra relented.
"And you care about them too" Kanan said, "Otherwise this wouldn't have bothered you so much so come on, let's get back home"
"Yeah, alright" Ezra relented.
When Kanan and Ezra got back you were awkwardly sitting beside Hera on the couch in the Ghost's lounge. Ezra didn't look particularly confident either as he walked in with Kanan.
...
"Hey" You said after a decently long silence.
"Hi" Ezra Ezra replied.
Kanan and Hera looked at each other. "Alright, we'll be in the cockpit if you need anything" Hera said, dragging Kanan along with her.
"So..." You said and Ezra took a seat beside you.
"Yeah" He said.
"I'm sorry" You both said at the same time and you chuckled.
"I didn't mean to go overboard on the teasing" You said.
"And I didn't mean to be so mean in the cave" He said.
"It's fine, I kind of deserved it. Besides I didn't actually want you to die alone in a cave" You told him.
"You know we're kind of like the siblings in this weird crew" Ezra told you.
"I've never had a younger sibling sibling before" You told him.
"And I've never had an older sibling before" Ezra said.
"So, siblings?" You asked and put your hand out.
"Siblings" Ezra agreed and shook your hand.

Truthfully, I’m hoping that Ahsoka and Huyang join the Ghost Crew… if not for Ahsoka to have Hera, Sabine, Ezra and Jacen at her side fighting against evil, but also for Huyang and Chopper banter…because Holy Shit! What gold!

kanera (star wars: rebels) and philinda (agents of s.h.i.e.l.d.) are the same ship and my evidence is thus:
• may and hera are both pilots
• both pairings are the parents of the found family
• they adopt a good-hearted but rebellious young person in the first episode
• said young person has special powers
• and is parentless
• may and hera both take on more leadership after the passing of their loved one
• we nEVER HEAR COULSON OR KANAN SAY "I LOVE YOU" ONSCREEN
• ONLY MAY AND HERA
• both ships broke my heart

Note
For the three sentence (or paragraph) fic challenge: Kanera but the AU is Hera was the jedi, not Kanan.
This, uh. This got longer than I expected, so it's going under a cut!
He’d thought the Jedi were gone, all killed when he was a teenager. He’d seen the wanted posters for the survivors, the warnings that they couldn’t be trusted, the propaganda— not that he’d ever really believed it.
And he’d watched them all dwindle, until there was no one left. It was just the Empire, ruling over them all.
But then, Kanan had come to Gorse. And he’d met the most incredible woman in the galaxy— beautiful, smart, an amazing pilot, and brave.
Finding out that Hera Syndulla was a Jedi wasn’t really a shock. He was certainly surprised, but it made so much more sense— the way she’d managed to pull off some of the tricks, flying and otherwise, that she had. The way she’d stared at him when he’d offered to help her, like she could see through him, before accepting his help. The fact that she was still traveling alone.
Even now, after dropping off  Zaluna, she was getting ready to politely but firmly send him on his way. He could tell. Kanan still couldn’t tell why exactly she’d let him help in the first place, but he knew she was usually a solo act in her fight.
As they made it to the hangar where her ship was waiting behind closed doors, Hera turned to him, her expression more hesitant than he’d expected.
“Wait,” he blurted out, and she lifted a curious eyebrow at him.
Kanan could have said anything. He could have told her that, ever since he first met her in that alleyway, he’d known he would never meet someone who called to him like she did. He could say that when she’d saved his life on the Star Destroyer, she’d practically glowed. She’d looked at home in the pilot’s seat, and using the Force, she looked like she had a purpose.
He could have told her that, when he was very young, his parents had died, killed by the Black Sun when they tried to fight back against them. He and his younger sister had changed their names and fled, living in fear for years. The Black Sun had never come after them, but it had been a long time before they’d felt at ease again.
He could have told her that the Jedi had saved his planet as a kid, or that he’d never liked the Empire, especially once his sister Devorah had enlisted when she turned 18, or that he’d never been one for a cause until now.
But all he found himself saying was, “You don’t have to do this alone.”
Hera’s eyes widened in surprise for just a moment before she frowned. “And what makes you think I need help?” she asked, but Kanan could tell she was mostly teasing, with a hint of curiosity.
“Don’t get me wrong, you’re incredibly good at what you do,” Kanan told her, deciding honesty was the best policy. “I almost believe you could do it all on your own. But that’s the thing— none of us can. We all need someone to watch our backs and take care of us. To help pick us back up.”
“And you want to be that someone?” Hera asked. “You know, it’s not exactly a sought after position. Not with— with who I am.”
He didn’t miss the slight hitch in her voice, the loneliness. Kanan understood it. “I do. For you, at least. And I’m willing to take the risk if you’re willing to have me around for a little while longer.”
Hera nodded slowly, her expression thoughtful. Kanan could tell she was considering it, but not what she would choose. “It won’t be safe,” she said quietly. “I’m not safe to be around, not really.”
Lifting an eyebrow, Kanan said, “Considering the last few days, do you really think safety is my biggest priority?” Not my own, anyways.
That made her laugh, which had been his goal. “Okay,” she agreed. “But if things go wrong, I have the right to throw you out.”
“Absolutely. It’s your ship, after all, Captain.” But Kanan had a feeling things wouldn’t go wrong. He had a feeling he would stay with Hera for as long as he possibly could.
Call it a good guess, or fate, or maybe even the Force. Who knew? All Kanan was really sure of was that he wasn’t planning to leave Hera. Not if he could help it.

Mostly I just had the idea rewatching the Ryloth arc inspired by twi’lek obsession and the intended personality of the swtor character I played for 2 days and then abandoned possibly forever but I’m thinking Jedi Knight with a sort of um. Any means necessary in retaliation to oppressive forces attitude that the Jedi Order is not a huge fan of who learns of the separatist occupation of Ryloth => Requests to be part of the liberation force => Denied due to prior assignment and the Republic army being stretched thin enough as is as well as personal emotional investment => and then since this is all relatively early in the war they become one of the first notable Jedi defectors. Not to “the other side” just like Fuck y’all I’m going to Ryloth anyway Lmfao.
