LIGHTING/GRAPHICS MODS Easy to use/install, lighting mods can change the look of your game drastically with little effort! I use a few:

Softerhaze makes some bomb ass lighting mods too.. I just switched from twinkle toes to sunblind and I am in LOVE - gamechanger lemme tell you.. so pretty! LOOKIT!!

RESHADE I'm still using g-shade at the moment but after recent events, I'll probably end up switching back again when I can be arsed. The effects you can achieve with reshade presets are amazing tbh.. and it's real fun to mess around with and create your own! Tho lots of people have made awesome ones if that's a bit much for you. If your PC can't handle it all too well you can always just switch it off until it's time to take screenies as well.

COMPOSITION Kinda hard to explain but basically, composition is what's in your frame and how you line it all up. I'd recommend reading some photography guides to get the gist of the concept.. but honestly, the more you mess around the more you'll get the hang of it. I've always loved photography and sims screenies really aren't so different. If you use reshade there's even some templates for thirds/the golden ratio etc you can slap on top for practice. Personally I don't use 'em cos I prefer my own judgement (that sounds rlly obnoxious but we're rolling with it). I found a template to show you what I mean! (ngl I was stoked that the first screenie I thought of for being a good eg. almost perfectly fit into this golden ratio shit LOL) but let's keep in mind how long I scooted around to get a good shot of this.. pretty sure I deleted about 10 other failed shots of this but shhhh, it's trial and error!

ANGLES/FOCUS The way you take a shot and how you angle it can change the whole feel of the image. For example.. in this image I tilted down and bit and filled over two thirds of the shot with the man, he's a big character and quite an intimidating guy so I think it helps get the idea across without pointing it out (at least I think so but idk I could also be talking outta my ass)

Similarly in these two shots below.. the first with the guy on the left gives the feel that he's in control here. The "camera" is tilted above him slightly and he's all up in your face, making the woman look much smaller in comparison. BUT! If you flip around to the second image, tilt down a bit and switch the focus to her, it makes him look more insignificant and less in control. I hope this makes sense??

EDITING/PHOTOSHOP ACTIONS ETC Personally I don't use photoshop actions but there's plenty out there to do the work for you! I think Intramoon? maybe.. has made a few but idk, you guys feel free to jump in with any suggestions! You can also smooth, fix stuff, change the mood/lighting, all sorts.. my advice on this is patchy at best tbh cos I just faff around until I see what I like lmao.. which leads me on tooooooo...

FUCK AROUND AND FIND OUT Lol.. but seriously! I don't know what I'm doing. I've never taken any classes or read up on much, I always just jump in and see what happens. Fuck around with reshade, fuck around with camera mods, fuck around with composition/focus, fuck around with photoshop or gimp or w/e.. just mess about for a while and have fun! I promise you'll get better.

... This is the nearest I can get to make Tabby (Tavi?) in BG3 and this is with mods. Unfortunately, presets can only allow you so much, huu~ I'm also not sure what her stats would be, but I do remember being told that her traits in Scarlet Hollow would be (somehow, even being stuck with eating only mac n cheese and ice cream) Powerful Build and Street Smart (I understand this one trait for her tho).

2. Something about character creator that just couldn't quite capture Violet:

I wish there was more freedom to move and position scars/tattoos. And to have more than just one or two. Violet has the sword neck tattoo and I really would have liked to have been able to size the tattoo up and move it further down so the pomel starts at the hollow of their neck and the blade goes down to their sternum. Give us more body scar options!! Give me top surgery scars!!!! (Theres a good mod for them on nexus if anyones interested!)

I also had a bit of an annoying time finding a body and face structure I liked together. I wish all face presets were available on every body type, I liked a masc face preset in body 2 but wanted to use body 3. And like....the character creator is nice but JUST GIVE ME SLIDERS!!!! Body sliders, facial structures sliders, ear length sliders like !!!!! I want options!!!! Let me make an abomination of a character if I so choose😂😂

I used a mod for more tiefling horns bc I wanted horns that went further back along the head (its really funny seeing them clip through the bedroll during long rest animations lols). The base horns arent bad, again I wanted sliders so they could be the length/in the position I wanted.

Oh yeah, I took full advantage of charm and psionic backlash during combat. I took concentrated blast and used it...maybe once? It was kinda lackluster to me.

Survival instinct (the ability you get for helping omeluum) and favourable beginnings got me out of a couple of rough spots, so i really liked those:)

9. Fave member of the tiefling refugees? Is it the same as your Tavs?

Personally I *adoooore* Alfira (yes I was crushed when [redacted] happened during my durge run). I defs spent too much time fighting my mods to give Violet musical proficiency so they could stand roof of the elfsong and play music with together🥰 Arabella and Roland both really grew on me, and of course best boi Dammon is always a fave!

Violets got a soft spot for Mol and Lia, theyre both so feisty! I headcannon Dammon and Violet being pals, Violets a Hexblade so I feel like they'd have some interesting weapon chats and Dammon is the only one who they trust to take care of their pact weapon when it needs repair. They respect Zevlor for having to make the hard calls, and thinks Alfira and her girlfriend are really sweet (theyd get drinks together 100%).

41: used to adventuring before events of the game?

Absolutely. Violet wasnt originally from Baulders Gate, they grew up a ways away in a place that was always in conflict with their neighbouring kingdom. As such, they were trained in a militia, they had fought before and were fairly competent in taking care of themselves on the battlefield. But one day everything went wrong, their home fell, and they found themselves close to death on the battlefield, weapon broken and missing an eye. They made their pact that day, a shadowy sword being the only thing to save them from oncoming monsters and soldiers.

Once recovered, they began traveling, searching for items or people their patron required. This is what lead them to Baulders Gate. They'd join with other bands of travelers and mercs every now and then, but was very much used to roughing it on their own. Having such a lively camp was a big change for Violet, it took a while for them to trust others to take watch overnight and they still fight Gale over cooking rights some nights (tho they will admit, hes a much better cook than they are).

and when it comes to my Elden Ring self insert... well. I love Elden Ring's story and atmosphere but the CC is. Well it's just okay. I do like her hair tho. and Edit to say it's not like I DISLIKE the Elden Ring CC it's just. okay. It's fine! It does the job. But there's nothing about it to write home about.

And then we have Dirzafay, my BG3 MC. She is saved by the fact I have stuffed her full of mods LOL but if I was just working with the vanilla stuff she'd be my least favorite I can't lie u_u AND edit to add that while I dislike the preset faces and lack of body customization for BG3, they ATE with the hairstyles even if I prefer using modded ones. If I couldn't have modded hair it wouldn't be a big deal because the hair is just That Good. A lot of games with CC are def trying to step it up on the hair game and I appreciate it, though I won't say it's perfect yet. But the effort was much needed considering how Bad older games CC hairstyles are...

I think what I like most about BG3 and the Tav character (Durge as well but they are diff in this aspect mostly) is that the RP options you're given really... let you bond with them? IDK, it's really easy to make them feel like YOUR character while making them really enjoyable to play as. You're given a lot to make up so they don't become too defined of a character- like... I guess an example would be like Hawke from DA2? No matter how much you customize them they are still Hawke. But Tav is more like your DAO Warden, they are your character (or self insert) and they can be whoever you want them to be. (and an edit aside to say even your warden has more set in stone BG than Tav but Tav still feels just as likeable and customized to me) And it's even like that with Durge! Because of the whole mind wipe, you get to give them their new identity. Even if it's choosing to be the dark urge this time, it was at least a choice this time instead of forced upon them.

BUT this was about CC. And sadly the vanilla BG3 CC, though you are able to make characters who look good, they aren't really all that unique unless you REALLY dress them up, otherwise they could easily just be an NPC so without mods, it's pretty lame. In fact worse than an NPC cuz some NPCs have unique faces LOL I guess my point is that Tav's high points aren't really in the appearance customization (for vanilla) but rather their personality.

AND. One more edit to say... I know it's not really the goal of Elden Ring or Dragon's Dogma since they aren't CRPGs, but it's one thing to just. have a character you can customize. It's another to be able to mold their personality and morality and all that. So I'll always prefer CRPGs. But the lack of dialogue and characterization also allows you a lot of space to make up whatever you want about your Tarnished or Arisen so it's got its good points as well. But I think BG3 was able to accomplish that just as well, I think it truly masterfully worked with a blank slate type character without making them boring.

BG3 Questions: What class did you settle on for your current Tav? Also, is that a mod face or out of the box face?

I went with rouge and urchin background since I want this one to be less agent of chaos and more "how can I use this to ensure I survive?". I'm not good at making up my own characters tho so I'm worried I'll revert to just playing her as a self insert (which is what the drow Tav was tbh) but I'm going to do my best.

I think everything about this Tav is a mod (although I don't use the unique Tav mod so her body is still base game). Her face is specifically this mod;

Diamond Dice - the prettiest dice

Infinite Dyes - self-explanatory, with no preview of how your armour is going to look like it's pretty much necessary unless you want to go broke

Extra Dyes - the Ocean Tides dye from this pack is my go-to, I just love it sm

Remove Bloodless VFX - makes for a less annoying capri sun experience

Camp Event Notifications - LOVE OF MY LIFE... there were so many cutscenes I have never seen before installing this mod and resting every time a notif pops up

Purchasable Camp Clothes and Underwear - to get Gale out of his jammies and put Shadowheart in something that does not look excruciating to sleep in

Party Limit Begone - I just hate switching people around, and yeah the battles become a bit easy but that's nothing switching to tactician can't fix

Dynamic Sidebar - a must have with the above mod because at some point the game makes you scroll through portraits and it's such a bother, plus it looks nicer to have the thing disappear unless hovered over

Some Melee Weapons On Hip - puts shortswords and a few other weapons on the characters' belt instead of back, has a version that adds visible shields too and that's the one I use because it's a bit weird for Shadowheart to seemingly pull her shield out of her ass during combat

Stackable Items - what it says on the tin, items that used to take up your entire inventory screen after skipping vendors for a bit now stack

No Intro - because it takes too much time lol

Contextual Dialogue Buttons - most only show when hovered over, makes for nicer screenshots when you want the subtitles visible (so no F10)

Gameplay

I try to not go too overboard on these and stick to stuff that's lore-accurate but

Paladins Deity - lets you swear your paladin oath to a specific god, a feature that's technically there, but unusable in-game for some reason

Immersive AI - rewrites combat AI for nearly every enemy so that they act in-character even when fighting, author has plans to add companions to the list too, but in the meantime...

Companions AI - it's a bit whacky and I admit they don't act the smartest when you turn it on, but it makes for a fun experience when you're playing the game for the 26737859 time and can't be bothered

Better Dark Urge - makes Durge actually feel unique to play, causes you to go whacko mode if you fail a saving throw during combat

Divine Soul - ngl I got this one for Durge specifically because I want them to be a sorcerer, but none of the subclasses available fit the vibe for me

Tiefling Claws - because it's cute and I think they should be able to

Half-Tiefs - not that lore accurate for 5e, but I like variety and being able to visually do whatever I want

I downloaded the Better Dark Urge mod to give the origin some more actual gameplay and the main feature of it is a small chance your character will lose control of themselves for a turn after making an attack. Which makes it an absolutely hilarious combination with the mod I use to have the companions act on their own accord during combat because it's like...

Ezra uses firebolt, fails a saving throw against the Urge, turns to a party member in a fit of bloodthirsty rage, the party member's AI goes "Oh fuck you, no you don't" and they immediately knock him flat on his ass 😂

idk how popular the cotr mod is but i’ve been eyeing it for a while now and i finally tried it today. uh idk if i like it. i mean i tried making berry with it and it worked well for her because she does have a bit of a baby face but that’s the thing,, i feel like the options for eyes/nose/mouth are not even that varied and they all look the same so it kind of feels like making a character in the sims which, again, no matter what you go for everyone will know that yea that is sure a character made in the sims cc because,, it’s all so.. plasticky? perfectly round noses, beautiful plump lips? everything is just Neat, eerily symmetrical, too. talking about the cotr mod now. but! i did notice that there are some patches for other skin textures to work with this. so i feel like maybe it is possible to make good-looking characters with it if i look at the patches and spend a lot of time fucking around with the sliders.

Which OC has had the biggest design changes?

Arisa and Asbjorn.

Arisa changed alot in looks and character design and relationships. When I first created her, she was more narrow faced with less war paint and thinner. I combined her ece face with racemenu and tweaked it some more till I was satisfied. I also thickened her up some since she was too skinny to me. Her weight for my storyline is about 140-50 and she is well muscled from the various training, missions and exploring she does.

Her character design changes in from optimistic to more realistic as time goes on. I dont want her to stop being looking for the bright side of thing but I think circumstances force it to change. She becomes colder in some ways. Making decisions that will hurt people sucks but are sometimes necessary but they also affect her and she changes slowly from it.

Relationships are a funny thing with her. When I first created her, I had intended for her to be with Farkas but honestly it wouldn't work with them. Arisa is a dominant person by nature and she would end up unhappy with someone who wouldn't push back against her or challenge her. Farkas is too soft and agreeable. I had thought of pairing her with Miraak but they would end up in a toxic relationship, their dragon nature's seeking to dominate each other and I imagine that wouldn't end up well. I ended up pairing her up with Vilkas because he's just stubborn as her. He also is willing to challenge her on her opinions and decisions. He's also one to give her good advice when asked. Combined with his extensive knowledge dealing with jarls and various other fractions in skyrim, she turns to him when she need to figure out how to manage them. He is also charming and passionate in everything he does. He pushes her to do her best and go beyond that and for a stubborn ass like Arisa, it is something she is grateful for because she can stagnate in certain stages of her life. He ends up being the perfect combo of hard and soft for her and I cant see her with anyone else.

Asbjorn is more of a newer character, having created him last year. He was originally a personal preset for the miraak mod that I had made. But I ended up like liking him enough to turn him into my male skyrim oc, Asbjorn Storm-Strider. I ended up leaving his design for abit. But his back story hit me one day and I now have an oc that was a member of the frostmoon pack to a new joined companion recruited by Farkas.

His design changed abit from changing his eye color from pale white to aqua. Small various tweaks like making him 229-30 lbs of pure muscle and making him more tan like his imperial mother. He has been a werewolf since he was a child, a tradition that he undertook as he followed the footsteps of his nord father. I also originally pictured him as stoic but no, the more I play him, the more I realize that he is more outgoing and witty . He had his own trauma that he hides behind it tho, masking his self loathing with a cheery smile and laughs.

As for relationships, He falls in love with Farkas who also ends falling for him too. They are a good match, I think. Its Farkas who ends up seeing the darkness that eats away at Asbjorn and slowly begins to comfort and make Asbjorn see that he wasnt to blame for his past. Asbjorn underneath his gruff tough exterior is more softer then he realizes and I think someone who is soft as well would do good for him. Asbjorn was in a brief relationship with Rai, and he loved her but love and being in love aren't the same and he broke it off when he realized that. They're still good friends tho and shes happy to see that Farkas and Asbjorn are together.

Elliot is an... interesting one. I wanted him to look similar to Olive, while also somewhat similar to Alec, which is impossible with any other preset than this. And there were very few soft boy faces, and those that were soft often had very flat noses, which is the opposite of what I’m looking for. I might give him another whirl when the game comes out, but we’ll see.
