Cure Steady (OC): The character and backstory
Cure Steady was a part of the Cure Royales, an older precure team originally from the Heart Kingdom, ruled by Queen Cure. Steady and the other precure were the knight protectors of the kingdom’s princess and heir, but forseeing great danger and a turbulent life for the princess, Queen Cure sent her and her knights far forward into the future to have the chance to live a more peaceful life with ability to choose who she wanted to be.
They immediately run into trouble, as the villainy they had hoped to escape followed them, but away from the obligations and a lot of the memories of her kingdom, the princess surprises everyone by becoming a precure too, wanting to protect this world. They are eventually able to foil the villains plans to steal the remaining power from the long abandoned Heart Kingdom, but in a fit of rage the villain lashes out at the citizens of Earth instead. In their efforts to stop him one last time, and protect the people, Steady uses up all her magic and turns to stone. The princess uses her power to try and protect Steady’s heart, then sets out to seek a way to bring her back.
When Suzuki (Cure Memory) comes into the picture, the town is under the thrall of a different enemy and cannot speak freely about the precure, so what they did has been largely forgotten. Suzuki spends a lot of time hanging out on and around Steady’s statue, and talks to her a lot. She even makes flower crowns for her. Suzuki has no idea what precure are, or that Steady might be a real person, but this is kinda her safe space, someone to talk to, open up to.
When Steady is eventually restored, she is now an adult, and has enough vague memories of all the times Suzuki talked to her to feel like she knows her, and feels like she wants to protect her. She ends up with a proper mother-daughter relationship with her, even adopting her. Turns out Steady has a strong motherly-type protective vein, especially around younger cures, and has to be dissuaded from spontaneously adopting all the other cures when there’s all stars stuff.
(on the flip aide of this, I think in my notes I made a joke of how Suzuki, who has 0 mothers/mother figures at the start of the series, ends up with at least eight.)
Even though the other Royale cures are still nowhere to be found, Steady can transform still, and readily helps the Memory cures in their fight.
By the time Steady reappears, the others are gone, and she becomes quite an independent cure, still dedicated to protecting the people of Earth.
Steady’s attacks are strength based. She is a stronk cure, hard to move when she’s holding the line.
A lot of her fighting is physical, and she can often be seen physically stopping monsters and debris, as well as saving people. Those heart pads in her hands get a lot of use.
She’s very good as carrying large numbers of people. She’ll just stack them up as well as she can. Is usually more careful with the non-cures.
She’s strong, but she hates heights. A lot. She often seems steady on her feet, and she is when she’s in action, but you get her in the air...
She can still trip over her feet in unguarded moments too. For a rock/earth themed cure, she sure spends a lot of time faceplanted in it.
She might be a fierce opponent in a fight, but she has a kind heart, wanting to help and protect others.
Magical Attacks:
Power up! A simple upgrade: Steady punches a fist in palm, and can grow to three or four times her former size. This is the form her statue was in, and is big enough to directly wrestle and restrain monsters, or hold shut big doors (like you might find in a castle). She struggles with vertigo on the height change, and that tires her out so she is quite careful when uses this. Will use for intimidation sometimes, much more so once she is working with her daughter. (Memory: “Oh, I didn’t say you were fighting me.” *confused villain noises* Memory: “MOOOMMMM!!!” and then pre powered up Steady comes charging in )
Precure Rock-et smash: Punching a chunk of rock or earth from the ground and punching the magical essence of that rock towards the enemy. This is different to her punching away, or throwing back rocks, which she also does. This is a way to hit people-coded villains with a rock without actually hitting people with a rock. Precure Rock-et barrage is an upgrade that allows her to hit multiple shots from the same rock by magically reinforcing the original rock and holding it in place. Then punching/kicking it a lot.
Steady heart: a connection purification attack. Attack probably isn’t the right word here, as while it looks like an attack at first, there is no violence. Steady has to make contact with the enemy, coming in to land her hand on their heart. This often looks like an attack to break through the enemy’s defences, but they tend to be surprised when they aren’t punted into orbit. Her hand heart pad lies on their heart, and a magical bubble appears around them both that seems to slow things down and create a safe space so they can talk. It also projects calming natural views, highlighting things the enemy might not actually want to destroy. They have a heart to heart, Steady getting through to the source of why they were fighting, and giving them the reasons and reassurance of why they don’t actually need to fight. With monsters it’s usually just an explanation that they’re not what they’re meant to be, and that’s causing them enough discomfort to want to revert. Once they see the reason, Steady calls out “Steady your heart!” and a pink heart of magic expands from Steady’s hand and purifies the enemy. This attack can also occur from a hug version, in which case the hand to heart location is round the back.
Sometimes after a battle, the battlefield doesn’t magically revert (thanks to the enemy’s interference, particularly in the Memory Cures case from Kao-san’s interference). Thanks to the princess, Steady has the capability to fix things like this, which also can be used as a secondary purification attack (although slightly more likely to fail due to the lack of personal connection with the enemy).
She starts by rubbing her hands together, the heart pads generating the first sparks of magic. She then uses her hands to draw out a big heart (two halves) and calls out “Love of the world,!” She takes a deep stance (or is already on one knee) and throws her arms back, the heart shape flying back through her with more sparks as it splashes her with magic. The large heart shape now sits behind her and folds slightly, as if it were her wings. Big dramatic moment. She then brings her hands forward, palms up towards her target (making contact with the ground if on the ground and aiming towards her target if not in range), throwing the magic to its target as she calls out “Embrace the Earth!” The heart shoots towards the target, hits, and spreads, shining bright across the surface and purifying/fixing it.
While Steady belonged to a previous group where she had a duty to protect the princess, the princess made a point of releasing them from that obligation so they could follow their hearts and not her. Steady loved Earth and the people deeply (she always loved deeply) and chose to continue to protect the earth, “the world you love so much as well.”
The princess also used her power to save Steady when she sacrificed herself to protect the people. Chiyoko used the power of her kingdom to protect Steady’s heart, allowing her to survive. Even now, the crown of the kingdom still sits round her heart, allowing her to live and transform like she always used to even though she doesn’t have her gem anymore. Steady has a memory of the princess asking her to look after them (the people) for her.

^^ Cure Steady by @ dryad_druid find their commissions here
Addition to say I have realised that Steady's fear of heights would lead her to be carried a lot by Special (the princess) as she can fly. Steady would have her eyes screwed shut pretty much any time she was off the ground, so it would be a matter of trust that she would be safe.
Steady has a reputation for being robust. While she is pretty much the opposite of active in the air, she's still solidly built enough that dropping a curled up ball of Steady from a height is a valid attack method (Steady has agreed to this, bc however much she hates heights, or even falling, she always wants to be on the ground again.) Steady just holds the curled up ball until she's on the ground again, usually after knocking the monster out. Cannonball! It does take her a moment to get back into the fight though.

You made me imagine Shigaraki trying to explain his family to like, Spinner or something.
"This is Hana, she's my big sister. I accidentally stole her hands when I got my quirk so she's technically the only person allowed to mess with me."
"This is Himiko, she's...I guess my little sister? I think we might've tried to kill each other when we first met. She's cool."
"This is Eri. We only have custody of her every other weekend because the heroes keep finding our hideouts. I'm pretty sure she's our baby sister, but Dabi is convinced she's either my kid or Hana's."
OKAY BUT BUT BUT ANON, THIS GIVE ME AN IDEA FOR AN AU. HERE ME OUT:
In this au, AFO doesn't exists (what a blessing) and Shirakumo Oboro is still alive.
The night Tenko's quirk manifest, Hana prevents him from doing anything using her quirk: if someone touches her skin recently, she can freeze that person's movements for a short amount of time.
Some years later, Shirakumo saves them both from their abusive family. Kotaro goes to jail, Nao goes to a mental institution to recover from the trauma and Oboro adopts the kids.
Welcome to the Cloud Family.
Shirakumo, a sort of vigilante now, keeps saving and adopting people that were forgotten by society.
Around that time he meets a girl maybe two years older than Hana. Her name is Magne and she ran away from her home because they didn't wanted her for being trans. She ask Shirakumo is she can stay with him, helping him raise the kids. He allows it, thankful.
Magne immediately becomes Hana's best friend. Both girls are an amazing duo and they help Tenko learn how to manage his quirk.
While Hana and Tenko study and Shirakumo works, Magne stays with the home duties, goes out with friends, lives her normal life being who she truly is.
She's cleaning the kitchen one morning and when Shirakumo breaks in through the window, holding a little girl in his arms. The girl looks younger than Tenko and it's covered in mud and blood. She's smiling big, fascinated with Shirakumo's quirk, like she's just taking a ride.
Shirakumo found her playing inside a trash can in the street. She was looking for something to eat. Her parents, some rich bastards, had abandoned her aftering finding out their kid liked to bite living animals and drink their blood. They kicked her out of the house and faked her death.
To cover up his vigilante identity, Shirakumo opens a bar. It's small, comfortable, perfect to hide from heroes and villians. He has a contact named Giran, who redirects to him all those people who need a hero but can't trust in the law.
Magne is the one managing the bar with Shirakumo, whevener he's not working. Hana, Tenko and Toga go to school.
Let's take a minute to imagine Hana and Touya being classmates. Imagine Hana and Touya arguing and even fistfighting. They become rivals. Which is pretty funny because you have Fuyumi trying to stop hee brother from insulting her best friend.
Little Hana hating Endeavor. Preach.
Natsuo and Tenko study together. They bond over trains and having idiotic parents.
PLEASE TOGA AND SHOTO BEING CHILDHOOD FRIENDS.
I mean, I've always headcanoned that Shoto and Toga are both neurodivergent so imagine then bonding over that.
Toga is considered a weird kid but Shoto likes being around her because she doesn't look like him like he's unreachable. Toga is always telling how his fire is so pretty, nothing like Endeavor's fire. Also Shoto, who's always bleeding thanks to his training, doesn't understand why it's a big deal that Toga asks him for some. He just gives her and they pretend to be twins when she uses her quirk.
The day Touya goes to Sekoto peak, Hana is looking for him because Shirakumo insists that she should invite him to have dinner with them. She goes with Shirakumo to Endeavor's house and from there they go look for him at the peak.
When the fire begins, Oboro flies over and rescues Touya. However, they both get pretty burned. Shirakumo scapes with the kid and arrives at the bar. Magne contacts an illegal doctor to cure them both.
Hana tells Fuyumi that Touya is alive but she refuses to tell her where he is. She will only tell her if Fuyumi tells her about Endeavor. Hana knows she's being cruel but she also knows them, and she knows something bad is going on with them.
Hana takes Fuyumi to where they keep Touya once she admits Endeavor's abuse.
But Touya refuses to go back. He's barely healing, slowly, and he hates his dad. He is full with hatred and anger and hurt. Shirakumo fears for his life, but he can't simply fight Endeavor.
Fuyumi returns home, troubled. Finally she talks with Rei and the woman visits Shirakumo in secret. She visits her son.
They reach an agreement: For the world, Touya Todoroki would be dead. Only his siblings and his mother would know the truth, along with the Cloud Family. Dabi would be just a kid without a family, someone who grew up in Shirakumo's bar.
And so they did. The Todorokis would visit him regularly with the excuse of the todosiblings being friends with the cloud kids.
When Hana and Fuyumi started college, Dabi stayed behind with Toga and Tenko. They started training together, and before anyone could notice, they were already a team.
The final adoption of the cloud family happened when a woman gave a little girl to Shirakumo one rainy night. She was terrified of the child. In the hurry, she told him to take the kid to a mafia boss and left, but Shirakumo couldn't do it.
Shirakumo already had experience raising little girls and raising children with problematic quirks, so she fit perfectly in their family of weirdos.
The yakuza never knew about this.
Eri grew up glued to Tenko, because they look a like a lot, so people didn't doubt them being siblings.
Shirakumo turns into a reformed pro-hero just to start teaching at UA along with his old besties, Aizawa and Yamada. He's in charge of teaching the kids about how the villians think and work.
Hana ends up studying to be a lawyer, but only to cover up her family whereabouts.
Toga and Shoto starts studying at UA together (or the AU where Toga replaces Mineta at class 1-A). Toga calls Aizawa "uncle Eraser".
Magne keeps the bar with the help of Tenko aka Tomura and Dabi. Which is just a lie because Tomura and Dabi follow the vigilante path together, creating the Anti-hero League. Bonus point because Natsuo has to constantly use his medical skills on his older sibling and his best friend, since they are both reckless idiots with self-destructive quirks.
Fuyumi works with Eri on learning how to control her quirk. Turns out Fuyumi is an amazing teacher and Eri completely adores her.
Rei is responsible for Shoto's scar but this time is totally an accident. She still goes to the hospital BUT Dabi exposes Endeavor and together they all sent him to jail.
Compress, Spinner, Twice, Mustard, Giran.. They all find their way to the Anti-hero League and most important, to the Cloud Family. Shirakumo is proud as fuck because his son is just like him.
Which takes us to Tomura having to explain he has four sisters to Spinner.
And this is the story Tomura told him and the reason why Spinner keeps losing his mind every time he sees them all on the family reunions.
The end.

HugPre: Half-season speculations (villain edition)
Tumblr media
Not that Harry is a villain but he was formerly associated with them. Plus, we’ve yet to learn who was the person that saved him from Criasu Corp so mind as well start there.
So far, things are indicating that Harry’s savior might not be (a grown-up) Hugtan since Hugtan doesn’t seem to recognize the necklace that serves as some sort of charm to subdue the warped beast Craisu Corp has turned Harry into...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...but the shadow/silhouette here suggests it was indeed, a girl or woman.
Maybe even a Cure judging by the glove and the look of her clothes.
Tumblr media
Not to mention, Homare reaching out to Harry much like his savior did in the future? The parallels are too strong.
There’s a very big chance we’ll see at least one more major Cure (whose color theme appears to be white) before the season is over.
...there’s also a very big chance they’ll all travel to the future to resolve this entire mess, now that I think about it.
Tumblr media
Then there’s Bishin who I’m pretty sure is a boy despite the show still keeping his/her gender ambiguous at the moment.
Bishin is obviously one of the kids Harry looked after in the future.
Meaning, he was also a hamster prior to getting a human form.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The one in the middle of the group, in fact.
Which also brings up the question...what happened to the other four? Or maybe even more if Harry had other charges not seen here?
Tumblr media
In any case, it’s clear he’s been severely brainwashed but not so much that he would forget the bond he shared with Harry-oniichan before they joined Criasu Corp.
Bishin’s desperation to get Harry back is what makes him even more dangerous to the Cures, especially when it’s combined with the destructive powers Criasu Corp has given him.
But at the same time, his attachment to his friend is the weak spot that will enable them to turn him back to good provided that Harry does the right amount of persuasion and coaxing. Which will happen because, y’know, this is Precure.
Based on that prediction, Bishin’ threat level has now been greatly lessened.
Leaving the remaining three: Gelos, Dr. Traum and Ristol.
Tumblr media
Now, keep in mind that although Charaleet, Papple and Daigon were spared, it doesn’t necessarily mean the same will happen to the new bosses.
Concerning Gelos, it’s just a matter of time until the repeated defeats causes her to become a monster herself.
A slightly more powerful monster than the weekly ones but not something the Cures cant handle, especially with their power-up forms just around the corner.
That being said, I can’t really picture Gelos (or her megane minions) dying. Her personality is too interesting and if they revive her, then they can also continue the rivalry she has with Papple. Except it’ll be on relatively less hostile terms.
...maybe.
Anyways, that’s something to think about before we get there.
Tumblr media
Dr. Traum, however, is someone I can see being killed off for good.
Likes experimenting on anything and shows no hesitation when it comes to backstabbing his own colleagues. That’s possibly a sign of absence of morality.
Too early to tell but if the pattern follows, he won’t receive redemption.
Because he doesn’t want or care for it.
Tumblr media
Finally, Ristol.
The company’s dragon and President Cri’s right-hand man.
He appears to be the most loyal of the bunch so we can expect him to be the penultimate boss. That or, I dunno, maybe he’ll take over the CEO position if Hana wins George over back to the good side.
Or he might do a fusion with the Big Bad to make it doubly Big Bad.
...anyways, we haven’t seen much action from him yet but if he’s as evil as I think he is, then it’d be pointless to try and convert him. And by the time we get to that fight, I’m not sure if the girls will even have time to try so there you go.
*shrug*
