(hope you're having a magnificent day/night <3)
I'm glad you like cowboy! Hobie!! Thank you for requesting, I hope you like it ❤️
Pairing: Cowboy! Hobie Brown x fem! reader

The smoke from the campfire signals life from just under the cliff edge facing the raging rapids. Pink and orange hues illuminate the vast dusty plains of the west, tumbleweeds pass by with the blowing winds; and the quiet prevails with no one else but Hobie, his trusted horse, and hopefully you waiting under the belching grey smoke.
He fixes his hat on top of his head, piercings glimmering as he smirks triumphantly. Your cat and mouse chase has finally come to an end, all the running and hiding comes to a close when he spots your seated form next to the campfire. The fiery embers illuminate your features, shadows dancing on your pretty face, eyes shining under the destructive fire.
“I was waiting for you.” You flick your eyes over to his form, lips curling into an amused smile. “Your meal's getting cold.”
Hobie chuckles under his breath, the reins under his gloved hand tightens in his hold. “What's for supper?” His horse huffs, hoof kicking dirt and dust.
“Rabbit, specially caught for you. And some beans to remind you of your old country.” You stand up, dusting your pants.
He sucks in his teeth, eyes glancing over to the river nearby. “I don't miss the old country that much.” When his green eyes return over to you, you're sitting on your horse, grinning from ear to ear. His hands slowly reach for his lasso.
“Oh I'm sure you miss something.” You send him a flirty wink. “Me perhaps? Don't pretend you don't like the chase, Hobie.” Your horse neighs in agreement.
He smiles, a ghost of amusement flickering from his jade eyes. “You've had me runnin’ after you for about four months now, love. Sorry for not playin’ along today, just a bit tired is all.” He clicks his tongue to make his horse step closer to yours. His hand wraps around his lasso on his belt.
“Oh poor bounty hunter.” You coo sweetly.
“You know what happens next. You have to come with me, love.”
You feign a tired sigh, your grin says otherwise. “If you tried your luck tonight we would've done just that. Well, after dinner of course, I'm a romantic, you see.”
“I would have said yes but your three grand bounty makes me think twice.” Hobie tamps down a laugh, heat prickling his cheeks. He has found that you've had that effect on him. “You know me, job comes first.”
“That's too bad. Maybe on our next date then!” Rearing your horse, you make her kick the boiling pot, spilling its hot contents and the heated coal all over the ground, startling his poor horse. You leave him in the dust once again.
Hobie bites his lower lip to stop an excited guffaw from escaping. He follows quickly, right after he briefly calms his startled horse.
Wind nips at his cheeks as he jumps over broken down trees, dodges rocks and cliffs, and soon after, he sees your form in the distance. With victory already in his grasp, he takes his lasso, swinging it expertly over his head. Calculating his throw, he aims, lasso flying over head.
“Wha–!” The rope cinches around your torso, wrapping you in its rough hemp, making you fall off your horse harshly on the dusty ground. “Fuck! That hurt, Hobie!” Head throbbing, you hear footsteps running frantically towards you. Instead of meeting with the end of a pistol, you feel his warm hands gently hold you. “Ow. Was that necessary? I thought we had something going on, cowboy.”
Hobie takes his gloves off to examine your bleeding forehead. There's a cut just above your brow, but other than that, you're alright. He sighs in relief, hands still carefully holding you in place. If not for his lasso around you, you'd think your handsome bounty hunter actually cares for you.
“Sure, I'm alright, Hobie, nothing to be worried about.” You sarcastically say, one eye closed as blood ebbs from your cut down to your eyelids. “I just hit my head, no biggie—!” The second you meet with his worried eyes, you clamp down. Hands suddenly clammy, mouth turning dry, and stomach doing somersaults, you haven't seen him this close to you. His eyes are greener than anything you've ever seen, pools of the greenest of clovers; and face chiseled to perfection. He looks wonderous in this light. And surprisingly, he looks like he actually cares. “Shit.” You say under your breath, flirty exterior crumbling around his boots. Your voice wakes Hobie up from his lovestruck gaze.
He clears his throat, palms now hovering above your arms. “You look alright.”
Light lines up with his head, an orange halo appears, bathing him in its glow. “I think I have a concussion.” You swallow down your sudden bashfulness.
His brows furrowed, hand tentatively reaching for your chin to carefully check you again. “Does your head hurt?” His voice is soft, and his hand is warm and softer than you thought despite his callouses. You think it all adds to the mystery of the famous bounty hunter right in front of you.
His touch alone almost made you want to surrender. Almost.
You flutter your lashes, “do all the men back in England look just as good as you?”
Hobie lets out a chuckle. A simple act that has the butterflies in your stomach fly wildly. “Just a handful of us.”
“I'm lucky then.”
Hobie squeezes your chin, for a moment, a comfortable silence hangs in the air. You could sit there forever and just look at him. He feels the same way with his fingers brushing along your bottom lip. The river behind continues to flow, water crashing loudly against the rocky river beds just a jump away from the cliff behind you.
Suddenly, his horse neighs behind him. Popping the bubble of affection around the two of you. Hobie clears his throat, and you look away, flustered. He takes his hand off your chin to help you off your feet wordlessly. Tying the lasso around you, he keeps his hands to himself, or tries to as you watch him with your eyes that are practically shaped like hearts. A trait that is unheard of from a feared outlaw like yourself.
“I have to bring you in.” He sounds like he's trying to convince himself.
Arms bound to your sides, you tilt your head to meet with his downturned eyes. “D’you have to, hm, cowboy?”
Hobie straightens up, lifting your head up with his thumb pressing under your chin. He leans close, stealing the breath from your lungs. “I'm not a lawman. So I don't have to.”
You smile sweetly, “I hear a ‘but’ coming.”
Hobie chuckles deeply. “But three grand is enticin’.”
“More enticing than me?”
Hobie inhales sharply, as if he's trying to restrain himself. From doing what? You suppose you have to find out.
He makes a move to walk away to grab your horse, but you stop him with your hands grabbing at his belt buckle, fingers wrapped around the cold metal as you yank him closer to you. Your arms might be bound, but your hands remain free to your sides.
“Why don't you answer my question, cowboy?”
Hobie's eyes flick over to your hand, heart thudding loudly in his chest as he bracelets his fingers around your wrist. His thumb brushes along your pulse point, feeling your heart sync with his own.
“Because you'd love my answer to that, love. But my debts won't.”
Leaning close, you reach his lips with your own floating dangerously close above it. Briefly, you both stand there, indulging in each other's presence. Feeling like you two are the only people left in the whole world. A life with you flashes in the back of his mind. And your vision fills with only him.
With pursed lips, you slowly let go of his belt buckle. One finger at a time. “Okay then.”
Hobie feels like you've stolen his heart right there and then. Fitting well with an outlaw. Hell, he'd even let you keep it since your heart is in his grasp too.
“‘Okay?’”
You shrug, backing away. “Yeah, okay.”
“Just like that?” His fingers linger on your skin for a second. You're a mystery to him, a mystery he'd like to get to know better.
“Mm-hmm, just like that.”
Hobie blinks, shaking off his doubts. “Stay there.”
“Yep, staying right here, cowboy. Not going anywhere.”
With him walking off towards your horse to hitch it with his own, you waste no time to run off towards the edge of the cliff.
“Shit!” Hobie scrambles to get to you as you jump off. His fingers graze the ropes, and you even have the audacity to wink at him as you plunge down towards the cold water. He yells after you, watching the water with his quickening heartbeat, waiting for you to resurface. “Fuck!” Starting to take off his hat and jacket, he prepares to jump after you. “Hold on!”
Before he could dive, he sees you waving at him as the currents carry you downstream. He sighs in relief, muscles relaxing, chuckling to himself.
“See you later, cowboy!” You yell at him, floating down like you're having the time of your life. Blowing a kiss at him, your eyes stayed on him whilst he watched you go until he's barely a dot in your vision.
He hears your horse gallop away, and he pinches the bridge of his nose. His horse nudges him with his snout, huffing and puffing at him. You've won once again.
“See you later, love.”

"Bastet" [Oil on Hemp, 27 x 20"] by @lukehillestad, for the Beautiful Bizarre curated exhibition 'Fable & Folklore'.
"The Egyptian lore of Bastet emerged with their veneration of cats. They were loved for their beauty, fertility, and ability to protect against illness by ridding the Egyptians’ grain storages of rodents. Bastet embodies the great range of the archetypal cat. She is fierce, motherly, and has a relationship with humans that is both independent and symbiotic. In the story, she protects Ra from the serpent Apep, using her knife to take off the snake’s head. It is a story of the Sun’s daily victory, with exceptions such as an eclipse, when Apep is successful."
This exhibition includes the work of over 80 of the world’s best contemporary artists, from across the globe. To receive the Collectors Preview please email Gallery Director, Gary Pressman on [email protected]
'Fable & Folklore' | May 4 – 25, 2024 At: @coprogallery, 2525 Michigan Avenue #T5, Santa Monica, CA 90404, USA

Loki is the Norse god of mischief, and the hard cold truth, even tho he may be cold, he is wise, and charming in many ways.
I use resources, I do not own the info, and most deep dives have UPG (that I use in my work.) And I only take some information from sources. I am 14, this is my hobby, I am learning but I spent many hours and days on this, and I am always open to criticism. I have been doing worship for 5 years. Talk to Dad about this farm, and he’ll try and tell you it was a steal. Fertile soil, good acre-age, and because it’s on the cliffs, close to the polluted waters of the channel, the old owners couldn’t find a buyer and they were desperate to sell.
But the honest truth is, he was tricked.
Reality doesn’t stay still, when the winds blow from the south. Your people did that - they poisoned the air. Every spring, something grows here, but it’s a different harvest each time, and there’s no guarantee it’ll be edible. Flax, hemp, a sour kind of barley.
Once, we thought it was corn, but when you peeled the ears open, there was nothing but a staring, blinking eye inside each one. We had to torch the whole field.
He spent all his money on farming equipment he doesn’t know how to use, but he can’t make any kind of profit from this place, because he never knows what the crop is going to be until he cuts into it.
Nothing sadder than a con-man who won’t admit he’s been conned.
— Chapter 23: I'd Howl, I'd Scream, In Victory.

Arsenal VS Manchester City- Victory at Meadow Park
Great game today ! I thought we played great, we played like we wanted to win.
In the first 5-10 minutes, City saw the most of the possesion, they played very high, Lotte made a mistake that caused her to give the ball away to Hemp in the box but other than that, I think she had a great game, she really stepped up. We really had to fight for possession, Ilistedt made some fantastic blocks to stop Bunny Shaw.
We kepy making mistakes inside our box, Manu made a mistake that gave the ball away to Chloe Kelly, her possession and distribution isn't that good.
STEPH'S GOAL, the pass from Caitlin, the Ausenal link up. Before the Steph goal, City were dominating and creating chance after chance, you felt like it was only a matter of time, but then Steph went and shot it into the back of the net.
Esme Morgan's passes to their attacking line were dangerous, everytime Bunny Shaw got onto the end of one of them I was a bit scared.
Kims penalty saved, it wasn't a good penalty, should we switch penalty takers ? I dont think so, 18/23 converted penaties is still a fantastic stat. After that we continued to dominate and see most of the ball.
Manu played amazing today, genuinely, she actually moved and dived to save the ball, amazing to punch it just over the bar towards the end of the game, it reminded me of how she was at the start of last season. It was also really nice that she called for the medics when someone in the crowd was having an emergency.
The second half, City started out strong, they were creating quality chances but the finishing was just not there, our defence was really defencing today. In the run up to the City goal, BIG block from Lia, Frida should have let Kim clear the ball, and then obviously Kelly gets the goal.
Big mistake from Khiara Keating, but she's young, she'll have other chances, she made some good saves, including managing to save the penalty, she'll come back. Stina scoring after 10-15 minutes of being on, what else can you say about her ;)
A bit baffled how Kyra is getting 0 minutes, I'd love to see her on the pitch, I dont understand why we'd pay so much if we weren't going to use her.
Overall good performance today, our attacking depth is so BACK, but I'll love it even more when our defence is back.

i need to convince myself i'm making SOME progress with this godforsaken short story so i'm going to post a bit of the draft here. just to say it exists, three friggin weeks later
-
Red smoke like a sunrise, the air of this strange planet choked in the soot of our victory. The battlefield bright with mech debris: fertilizer drones commandeered from our home colony, reprogrammed, weaponized. Sent with us in the forward dropships; keyed to our command.
We would not have bombs, otherwise. We would not have poison.
We are farmers. We are a gentle people.
Our organic-glass tubing spreads like strawberry runners over the scorched alien terrain, its density determined by algorithm. At home, this latticework would have delivered nutrients and treated the soil. It would have brought life to barren ground, a resource available to all by sacred human right. Enshrined in our charter and constitution: life. The right to it.
But the dose makes the poison. My new compound spreads quickly; contaminates enemy soil.
Some of us have fallen. Our exosuits, designed for solar satellite repair work, apply coagulant and brace bones. Our respirators, meant for deep-sea environmental preservation missions, work to filter out the blight we’ve brought. In this way our fragile psyches are insulated from the shocking scent of death.
But not the topography of it. Not its shape.
We’ve pulled the enemy out by the root. The General told us we didn’t have a choice. They’d tortured our ambassador, destroyed our lunar seed vaults, attempted a blockade. They were coming for us. We had to.
We had to.
The General strides across ruined plains, his body like a scar against the sun. A sharp and sudden light reflects from some piece of him: his exo, his command glove, the clasp of his cape. The light of him drives straight through me.
He is a colossus. He saved us. He needs me and he saved us and I want to go to him, but I can’t even stand.
Smoke plumes rise like distant grain silos. I vomit into my respirator, trapped with the scent of myself; the scum. I fade.
-
“Can I ask what you’re making, sir?” Lieutenant █████ asks, sitting in the patient bed next to mine. Since the surgeons woke her an hour ago, she’s done nothing but yank on her fingers like she wants them removed: first the right hand, then the left.
“A gown for a newborn,” I croak past a damaged throat. “My wife’s in the third trimester back home.”
 “Oh. Is this your first?”
“The first I haven’t carried myself.” I wrap homespun wool around my hook, offered by our neighbors in exchange for my help reprogramming their fertilizer lattice during the last dry season. I brought skeins of it with me in the forward fleet; an entire basket in my quarters. “I owe my older boys new sweaters. They need clothes whether there’s a war on or not.”
█████ giggles, a little manic, as though I’ve told a joke.
Her hemp bag boasts the emblem of the Weather Shaper’s Syndicate: a civilian expertise that earned her a hasty officer rank in my Specialist Corps. Her leg ends just above the knee, but she’ll be fitted with a biosynth soon. The doctors probably completed a full vitamin rebalance when she was under. Probably countered a genetic susceptibility or two, just because they could.
“At least there isn’t anymore,” she says. When I look at her, she clarifies: “A war. We ended it? Just now? Or at least once the talks end.”
When I give her no answer, she goes back to pulling at her fingers. Her sunken eyes dart from my bandaged ribs to the baby’s sleeve taking form under my hands.
The medi-ship’s plant wall generates a cocktail of pristine air and corticosteroids. Beneath us, the wreckage of a planet turns.
She tries again: “It—it was terrible. As inhuman as they tell you in the ethics practicums as a kid, like something out of the old world. I saw—but the General said it was worth it. To protect everyone. Back home?”
Her gaze asks for my authority as a substitute for forgiveness. She looks very young, and I become very angry.
“What was worth it?” I say it calmly. I don’t know why I say it at all.
“I…the General said—”
“Which part do you mean? Specifically.”
Her smile trembles; she presses the button for pain reliever. She doesn’t fully understand it yet, the scale of what we’ve done, but her body feels it like a fever.
I make my voice bright and effusive. “No need to be so modest. Your team did well punching holes in their ionosphere. Between that and the typhoon seeding, how many did you take down before the dropships even landed?”
“Sir?”
“Let’s talk in planetary percentages. Let’s talk in long-term damage.”
Our founding charter, the General’s steel voice says in my head—like he’d said to the Colony Council, two years ago—allows for militia muster in self-defense. It allows for the ethical deployment of minimum effective force. If you grant me the authority—
I smell my own vomit again, its own kind of ghost.
“Sir—Commander ██████,” the weather shaper says faintly. “I carried out your orders.”
“You did.” I rip back a row to fix a dropped stitch. My sheets are hand-sown and clean. “You’re right. He’s right. We had to protect ourselves.”
A gift box looms at the foot of my bed. It had taken me some hours to work up the courage to open it. Inside sits a bottle of wine from my home syndicate—the General knows I like good wine—and some kind of complicated artisan decanter, constructed as a tangle of glass roots as tall as my forearm.
The decanter leans by design, like a lurching soldier. It casts sharp-twisted shadows. It traps the light.
Swift recovery, my friend, the letter says, his cursive a series of slashes across the page. My heart races like a north-rabbit in flight. Like lying in the melting snow of a battlefield, watching his presence eat up the horizon like an Alexander of our own making. Like the line between love and fear.
I ask a nurse to decant the wine for his team as my thanks. The liquid works through branching blown-glass roots. A maze of red, like the fertilizer lattice I programmed to poison a hundred thousand miles of enemy farmland. Like strawberry runners.
-
I do not want the decanter.
Its complex and scarless surface speaks to the work of a master artisan. At home I would have had to trade a lattice designed from scratch in return for a product so fine. But people—people who meet him, understand him—give the General things for free.
I visit the General’s quarters on the Plethora, my ribs still aching, planning to explain that my dogs would just knock his gift from its shelf. That my boys play rowdy. That the house my great-grandfather built in the first days of the Colony is small, each space designed for function (solar power and a heat pump and green-growing walls). The better to keep to the Charter; give back to the land.
Instead, I stand at his doorway and fail to knock. I’ve found I can’t picture his face anymore, not outside of that one half-conscious moment: the battlefield, the hard red horizon.
A superimposition of my other memories. An invasion.
The door slides open and I jump. His shadow swallows mine. His massive shoulders fill the doorway.
He looks at me and I’m wrung out clean, a piece of fabric on the line. His eyes are deepest green.
“██████,” he greets me softly, and invites me in.

Richard M. Davis was more than just a founder; he was a visionary advocate who saw the potential for change in the hemp and cannabis industry. With a deep passion for both environmental sustainability and personal wellness, Davis recognized the potential of industrial hemp as a versatile and Eco-friendly resource.
The Birth of the USA Hemp Museum
Driven by his vision, Davis founded the USA Hemp Museum as a platform to raise awareness about industrial hemp and its myriad uses. From textiles and building materials to bio-fuels and nutritional supplements, Davis wanted to showcase the incredible versatility of this plant and its potential to revolutionize various industries.
Educating the Masses
At the heart of the USA Museum was its commitment to education. Through exhibits, workshops, and community events, Davis and his team worked to inform the public about the economic, environmental, and health benefits of industrial hemp. By dispelling myths and misinformation surrounding cannabis, they empowered individuals to make informed decisions and advocate for change. When he died January 10, 2014, the museum closed its doors forever.
Championing Cannabis Legalization
In addition to his work with industrial hemp, Richard M. Davis was also a staunch advocate for the legalization of medical cannabis and recreational marijuana use. Recognizing the therapeutic potential of cannabis for treating a wide range of medical conditions, Davis tirelessly lobbied lawmakers and mobilized support for cannabis legalization efforts.

The Dream Is Alive for Australia
Tumblr media
We are down to the last four teams of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and co-hosts Australia are still alive after a dramatic victory over France on 12 August in Brisbane.
The match was scoreless after one-hundred and twenty minutes of football. This meant that the contest would be decided on penalties.
Due to the time difference, I was unable to watch the match live. But after five rounds of kicks, the score was tied 3-3.
Tumblr media
Australia finally prevailed after ten rounds of kicks; the final shootout score was 7-6.
As mentioned earlier, I had to watch the shootout on reply, but even watching on replay was intense.
I really am at a loss for words after seeing Australia make it this far.
From the standpoint of the French, it was sad to see Eugenie Le Sommer likely play in her final World Cup.
Australia will face England in the semifinals on 16 August in Sydney and online bookmaker Bet365 has the latest wagers.
Tumblr media
Currently England is favored with 13/10 odds while Australia has 12/5 odds, and the odds for a draw are 21/10.
In all honesty, I don’t buy into the fact that the football experts are probably favoring England to defeat Australia.
When looking at the four teams remaining – Spain, Sweden, Australia, England – it is easy to say that the two finalists will be Sweden and England.
But England was very fortunate to get past Colombia in the quarterfinals.
The Colombians should have held a 1-0 lead going into the interval, but goalkeeper Catalina Perez made a crucial mistake that allowed Lauren Hemp to score an easy equalizer in the seventh minute of first half stoppage time.
Tumblr media
Alessia Russo would score the winner just after the hour mark as England won 2-1.
Yet when looking back at the match, I think it is clear that Australia can definitely get past England with the help of the home supporters.
Similar to the other semifinal match, I think it is hard to say which team is favored. All I know is that it will be a battle from start to finish.
Prediction: Australia 2-2 England, Australia wins on penalties

Recent Delhi High Court Verdict on Hemp's Legality
Wait wait wait! Stop scrolling because you have to check this sensation thanks to the recent Delhi High Court decision that's got everyone talking.
In January 2022, the Delhi High Court affirmed the medical use of hemp, a plant that is a cousin of marijuana. The court's decision is a major victory for advocates of hemp legalization, who have argued that the plant has a number of potential medical benefits, including the treatment of pain, anxiety, and epilepsy. The court's ruling also comes at a time when there is growing scientific evidence to support the medical use of hemp.
Now just think of this verdict like a seed planted in fertile soil, and we'll be watching closely to see how it grows. It's high time we need to explore the vast potential of hemp in various industries and celebrate its historical roots in Ayurveda and traditional Indian medicine.

Dallas voters decide to decriminalize marijuana
As of 6:30 a.m., about 67% of Dallas voters supported decriminalizing small amounts of marijuana, according to preliminary unofficial election results, though its recreational use is still illegal in Texas.
Proposition R, one of 18 propositions on the ballot for Dallas voters, appeared to be headed to an easy win with Election Day votes pending Tuesday night.
The charter amendment prohibits the police department from arresting or citing individuals suspected of possessing four ounces or less of marijuana, except when part of a felony investigation involving violence or narcotics.
Election Day vote tallies were not available at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The proposition also prevents police from considering the smell of marijuana as probable cause for a search or seizure.
It would ban city funds or workers from being used to test cannabis-related substances to determine if they meet the legal definition of marijuana.
“We have a lot of people in jail for small amounts of marijuana, and it shouldn’t be like that,” said Enoch Correa, 33, who voted on Election Day at the Jaycee Zaragoza Recreation Center in Ledbetter.
Another voter who supported the proposition was Magdaleno Huitron, 43.
He believes people should be free to use marijuana for personal use, especially if they use it to calm their anxiety.
“People shouldn’t be punished for using weed to relax, and then have something on their record for the rest of their lives just for that,” Huitron said.
The proposition, referred to as the Dallas Freedom Act, is backed by the nonprofit group Ground Game Texas, which received at least 20,000 signatures from valid voters in support.
Natalie Marquez, local field director with Dallas Freedom Act, said the early votes show that the Dallas community has decided it’s time for a change.
“This decisive victory is very loud and clear when it comes to the state government’s outdated approach to marijuana regulation, which has unnecessarily criminalized countless of Texas,” Marquez said.
“We are going to continue to build power in Texas,” Marquez said over the phone.
Dallas would be the largest city in Texas to ban arrests for low-level pot possession if voters approve the proposition.
It would also likely put the city in the crosshairs of state leaders as Attorney General Ken Paxton has sued other cities, such as Austin and Denton, where voters have approved ordinances in recent years decriminalizing small amounts of weed.
Paxton argues the ordinances violate Texas law.
Dallas City Council members Chad West, Adam Bazaldua, Zarin Gracey and Jaime Resendez announced support in June for a Dallas marijuana decriminalization charter amendment.
”To me, the support so far for [Proposition] R says that Texas needs to get with the times,” said Dallas council member Paula Blackmon on Tuesday night.
“We need to pass it statewide, legalize it, regulate it and tax it.”
Mayor Eric Johnson and council members Carolyn King Arnold, Cara Mendelsohn and Kathy Stewart voted against forwarding the proposal to the election ballot, The Dallas Morning News previously reported.
Geneva Santoya, 34, a West Dallas resident, voted against the proposition because she doesn’t want to see the use of pot normalized.
“I don’t want kids exposed to it, and if we don’t punish the use of it like we do other drugs, then everyone is going to do it,” Santoya said.
Medical marijuana use is legal through a state program and hemp, the plant CBD comes from, is also approved by state and federal regulators.
A poll released in May surveying 1,200 Texans found 60% supported state legalization of the drug for recreational use.
The Texas-born singer-songwriter Willie Nelson endorsed the proposal via his social media, The News reported.
“Marijuana is an herb, not a crime,” said Nelson, a longtime marijuana advocate, in an Instagram post on Oct. 11.
“Proposition R in Dallas is about fairness and freedom. I’m proud to support the fight to decriminalize. Vote for Prop R!”
Dallas residents have voted in favor of 16 out of 18 city charter amendments, including one that would decriminalize marijuana possession in the city, but rejected an amendment to increase the salaries of the city’s mayor and city council members and one that would have created a citizen satisfaction survey to increase the city manager’s annual compensation.
The Dallas Freedom Act was Proposition R on the November 5 ballot, and it passed by a margin of over 30 points with nearly 229,000 out of the 324,000 voters favoring it.
Dallas voters approve Prop. R, decriminalizing 4 ounces of marijuana
Dallas voters approved Proposition R on Tuesday, which decriminalizes the possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana in the City.
Proposition R, which passed with roughly 67% of the vote, will amend the City charter to make marijuana possession of fewer than 4 ounces technically the “lowest priority” for local law enforcement.
The passage of the proposition also comes as a part of a larger growing movement for marijuana reform in Texas, as previously covered by The Dallas Express.
Under the new policy, Dallas Police will allegedly no longer actively pursue arrests or prosecutions for those found with small amounts of marijuana, shifting the priority of department resources towards more serious crimes.
The proposition also includes a provision prohibiting the City from allocating any funding or resources for THC “concentration tests.”
These tests can be administered by law enforcement officials to check the concentrations of Delta 9 THC in certain hemp products, ultimately allowing police to deem them illegal versus other legal hemp products sold over the counter in Texas.
The overall goal of Proposition R, according to the non-profit organization Ground Game Texas, is to “keep people out of jail for marijuana possession, reduce racially biased policing and save millions in public funding.”
However, the proposal has faced significant opposition from law enforcement officials and politicians alike, including former Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia, who strongly criticized the measure.
Garcia argued to the City Council in August that 4 ounces of marijuana is more than what an individual would typically possess for personal use, suggesting that it is commonly associated with drug trafficking.
He also voiced concerns that the measure could harm the City’s most vulnerable neighborhoods.
“In my opinion, 4 ounces is not small or for personal use,” Garcia said to the Dallas City Council in August, holding up a half-empty gallon-sized bag to illustrate his point.
Despite the opposition, Proposition R garnered widespread support from various local political groups.
The proposition also draws similar comparisons to other past marijuana decriminalization efforts in Texas cities like Austin, Denton, and San Marcos, which have seen similar reforms.
However, Texas Att. Gen. Ken Paxton has previously filed lawsuits against cities with similar ordinances, as previously reported by DX, arguing that they conflict with state law.
With the passage of Proposition R, Dallas may now face a legal battle, as Paxton has previously signaled that he will challenge decisions by Texas cities to decriminalize marijuana in any amount.
“This unconstitutional action by municipalities demonstrates why Texas must have a law to ‘follow the law.’ It’s quite simple: the legislature passes every law after a full debate on the issues, and we don’t allow cities the ability to create anarchy by picking and choosing the laws they enforce,” Paxton stated in a press release published in late January.
