The Cannabis Pioneer Who Changed the World
Written by Casper Leitch
Few names in the history of cannabis stand as tall as Jack Herer’s. A trailblazer, advocate, and visionary, Herer was a cornerstone in the fight for cannabis legalization and awareness. His influence reached from the West Coast cannabis community to a global stage, leaving a legacy that inspires activists, cultivators, and enthusiasts alike. Even the iconic sativa strain named after him pays homage to his indelible mark on cannabis culture, renowned for its distinct aroma and uplifting effects.
Born on June 18, 1939, in Buffalo, New York, Jack Herer began his journey in an unexpected place: the conservative business world. But destiny had other plans. The transformative spirit of the 1960s introduced him to cannabis, igniting a passion that would define his life’s work.
Herer didn’t just embrace cannabis - he championed it. He dedicated himself to dismantling the stigma and misinformation surrounding the plant, advocating tirelessly for its legalization and decriminalization. His mission wasn’t just about the right to use cannabis; it was about unlocking its full potential - from its medical benefits to its industrial applications in hemp.
Herer’s relentless drive came at a personal cost. His health suffered under the strain of his efforts, and he passed away on April 15, 2010, at the age of 70, following a series of heart attacks and strokes. Yet his spirit lives on, fueling the movement to end prohibition and cultivate a future where cannabis and hemp are embraced for their value and versatility.
Jack Herer’s life is a testament to the power of conviction, education, and action. His story continues to inspire those fighting for the legalization of medical cannabis, recreational marijuana, and the global acceptance of industrial hemp. Share his legacy and join the movement - together, we can carry his mission forward.
At a time when most people consumed in the closet, Herer’s example became a guiding light for the cannabis community. Even for those who didn’t agree with his bombastic vibe. “You’ve got to be out of your mind not to smoke dope!” Herer would tell crowds at his many public appearances.
The Visionary Who Revolutionized Cannabis Advocacy
At the heart of Jack Herer’s enduring legacy lies his groundbreaking book, ‘The Emperor Wears No Clothes’. Widely regarded as a cornerstone of cannabis activism, this meticulously researched work exposed the untold history, versatile applications, and profound cultural significance of cannabis. Herer’s compelling narrative didn’t just challenge misconceptions - it empowered readers to think critically and engage in meaningful dialogue about the potential of both marijuana and hemp.
Jack Herer’s life was a testament to unwavering dedication in the face of adversity. Despite facing criticism and legal challenges, he remained steadfast in his mission to uncover the truth about cannabis. His advocacy sparked a movement that galvanized communities, inspiring countless individuals to join the fight for legalization and the end of industrial hemp prohibition.
Known as the “Emperor of Hemp,” Herer was more than an advocate - he was a force of nature. Standing a little over six feet tall with a bold presence, scruffy beard, and a wardrobe inspired by the free-spirited hippie culture, he was a fixture at cannabis conventions and rallies across the West Coast. Whether speaking at events or connecting with fellow activists, Herer’s passion was infectious, igniting the sparks that would eventually lead to monumental changes in United States cannabis and hemp policies.
Herer’s path to activism was anything but ordinary. A high school dropout, he served as a military police officer during the Korean War before taking on various jobs, including sign painting, to support his family. In the late 1960s, he moved from New York with his wife and children to Los Angeles, where he encountered cannabis for the first time. That discovery would change his life, and the future of cannabis advocacy, forever.
In 1969, 30-year-old Jack Herer experienced a transformative moment that reshaped his life. Encouraged by a partner who loved cannabis, Jack tried Acapulco Gold for the first time. That experience, which he described as “taking the blinders off,” allowed him to see the hidden injustices and corruption beneath the surface of mainstream culture. From that point on, Herer became a fierce advocate for cannabis, devoting his life to dismantling the barriers of prohibition.
Herer’s work extended beyond raising awareness about the plant’s benefits. He boldly criticized the government’s role in suppressing information about hemp and marijuana, a stance that made him both a revered hero and a controversial figure. His fearless voice and relentless activism continue to inspire those fighting to end prohibition, legalize medical and recreational cannabis, and unlock the full potential of industrial hemp worldwide.
Jack Herer’s legacy reminds us that one passionate individual can ignite a movement. His story is a call to action: to educate ourselves, challenge outdated narratives, and work together to build a future where cannabis and hemp are embraced for the gifts they truly are. Share his story and keep the fire burning - because the fight for truth and progress is far from over.
The Unstoppable Champion of Cannabis and Hemp
Jack Herer wasn’t just an activist - he was a movement in himself. His transformative journey from a conservative Republican to one of the most passionate voices for cannabis and hemp legalization is a story of relentless determination, groundbreaking revelations, and fearless advocacy.
Even though Jack didn’t try smoking cannabis until he was 30, that single experience would ignite a lifelong commitment to dismantling prohibition and educating the world about the plant’s vast potential. Within a few years, he developed ‘The Great Revolutionary American Standard System (GRASS)’, one of the first grading systems for marijuana, and began designing innovative cannabis consumption tools.
A Pioneer in Cannabis Advocacy
In the 1970s, long before the convenience of the internet or the surge of legalization movements, Herer emerged as a pioneer in cannabis activism. At a time when advocates were often marginalized and misunderstood, Herer stood out as a fearless leader. He connected with like-minded individuals at festivals, earth fairs, protests, and cannabis conventions, passionately speaking about the need for legalization.
Through his Southern California head shop, Herer sold pipes, bongs, rolling papers, and his game-changing creation: a cartoon coloring-book version of ‘G.R.A.S.S.: The Great Revolutionary American Standard System’. It became an instant hit, selling out nationwide. Its success propelled Herer into the spotlight, cementing his role as a leading voice in the cannabis community.
The Emperor Wears No Clothes
Herer’s magnum opus, ‘The Emperor Wears No Clothes’, first published in 1985, was a revolutionary work that changed the course of cannabis advocacy. Packed with meticulously researched government documents, scientific studies, and historical accounts, the book unearthed truths about cannabis that had been hidden for decades. It became an essential resource for activists worldwide, selling nearly a million copies in multiple languages over the next 3 years.
Jack Herer’s book revealed stunning facts, including:
Cannabis as Humanity’s Most Versatile Plant
For thousands of years, cannabis was cultivated for medicine, food, fiber, and spiritual use.
Hemp and American History
Early American settlers, including George Washington, were required to grow hemp for its use in paper, rope, and clothing.
Hemp in Nation-Building
The U.S. Constitution drafts were written on hemp paper. Early American flags and articles of clothing were made from hemp fibers.
Cannabis and Industrial Growth
Hemp was a vital crop until the 1937 prohibition Tax Act was passed. It was driven by corporate greed and anti-immigrant sentiments.
World War II’s Hemp for Victory
Despite prohibition, in 1942 the U.S. government produced and released the film ‘Hemp For Victory’ to encouraged hemp farming during the war to produce materials like ropes and sails, only to later deny this effort - a denial Herer exposed in 1989.
Environmental Benefits of Hemp
Hemp could replace harmful practices like deforestation and provide Eco-friendly raw materials.
Jack’s revelations were shocking, exposing lies perpetuated by corporations, government officials, and anti-cannabis propaganda. He framed the war on cannabis as a literal war, citing the 700,000 arrests made annually in the U.S. for cannabis-related “crimes.”
This seminal work, still in print today, is widely regarded as one of the most important cannabis texts ever written. It meticulously documented the plant’s history, versatility, and the calculated reasons behind its prohibition.
At the time of its release, the book was controversial, boldly challenging societal norms and government lies about cannabis. Its revelations inspired countless activists and played a critical role in reshaping public opinion. ‘The Emperor Wears No Clothes’ remains a cornerstone of cannabis education, empowering generations to fight for legalization and reform.
Herer didn’t just write about injustice - he fought it with unyielding vigor. He described growers, activists, and anyone who refused to betray the movement as heroes. Conversely, he labeled those enforcing prohibition as war criminals, unafraid to challenge powerful institutions.

A Man of Passion and Purpose
With his booming voice, imposing stature, and the presence of an Old Testament prophet, Jack Herer was impossible to ignore. Whether engineering innovative bongs in his head shop, rallying for legalization, or protesting prohibition, he exuded passion. But his advocacy came at a price - constant harassment from law enforcement and prohibitionists.
Every cannabis arrest felt personal to Herer, fueling his fire to create change. On stage, he was a force of nature, captivating crowds of thousands with fiery speeches that condemned the hypocrisy of cannabis prohibition. Whether addressing 15,000 people or a single policymaker, his message was clear: cannabis prohibition is unjust, and the world must wake up to the plant’s true potential.
The Activist Who Refused to Back Down
Herer’s relentless activism wasn’t limited to speeches and books. He co-founded the political action committee Reefer Raiders, a group known for its bold and confrontational protests. Their tactics included openly smoking cannabis outside federal buildings, challenging lawmakers to confront the absurdity of prohibition.
These fearless acts of civil disobedience came with consequences. In 1981, Herer spent two weeks in jail for protesting. Two years later, he faced probation and fines for running a head shop that sold cannabis and hemp paraphernalia. But none of this deterred him. If anything, it strengthened his resolve.
Hugh Downs was an American radio and television broadcaster who was featured on the TV series, ‘20/20’ along side Barbara Walters. One day, the phone rang at the Help End Marijuana Probation office and it was Hugh doing research about cannabis hemp. He heard about Jack and his book and wanted a copy for his report. He spent some time on the phone with Jack and myself and about two weeks later he aired the above report on his radio broadcast.
A Tireless Advocate, Even at Great Cost
Herer’s relentless schedule eventually took a toll on his health. By 1990, he was speaking at 60 events a year, pushing himself to the brink. In 2000, while attending a hemp festival, he suffered a simultaneous stroke and heart attack. Though he recovered, his health challenges persisted.
In 2009, while speaking at Portland’s Hempstalk festival, Herer suffered another heart attack. A few months later, he passed away at his home in Eugene, Oregon, at the age of 70. Despite his physical struggles, Jack Herer never stopped fighting for the cause he believed in.
A Legacy That Lives On
Jack Herer’s impact on cannabis advocacy is immeasurable. In the early 1990s, Sensi Seeds honored him by naming a strain after him. The Jack Herer strain, a vibrant and uplifting sativa, has won multiple Cannabis Cup titles and remains a favorite among enthusiasts. Today, you’ll find Jack Herer pre-rolls and flowers at dispensaries across the country—a fitting tribute to the man who helped pave the way for modern cannabis culture.
Jack Herer’s contributions didn’t just advance the cause - they redefined it. His work continues to inspire a global community of activists, growers, and supporters committed to ending prohibition and embracing the full potential of cannabis and hemp. His life reminds us that courage, truth, and unwavering conviction can ignite change.
Every time a state legalizes recreational cannabis, eases hemp restrictions, or funds research into cannabis medicine, we owe a debt of gratitude to Jack Herer. His fearless dedication laid the foundation for these advances, ensuring that his dream of a world free from cannabis prohibition moves closer to reality.
Herer’s story isn’t just history - it’s a call to action. Whether you’re fighting for industrial hemp, medical cannabis, or recreational legalization, his legacy is a rallying cry for justice and progress. So, the next time you enjoy a cannabis product or celebrate a step toward legalization, take a moment to thank the man who lit the way. Jack Herer’s legacy endures as a beacon of hope, inspiring advocates worldwide to continue the fight for freedom, justice, and the recognition of cannabis as the powerful, versatile plant it is.
May his legacy live on forever!

The smoke from the campfire signals life from just under the cliff edge facing the raging rapids. Pink and orange hues illuminate the vast dusty plains of the west, tumbleweeds pass by with the blowing winds; and the quiet prevails with no one else but Hobie, his trusted horse, and hopefully you waiting under the belching grey smoke.
He fixes his hat on top of his head, piercings glimmering as he smirks triumphantly. Your cat and mouse chase has finally come to an end, all the running and hiding comes to a close when he spots your seated form next to the campfire. The fiery embers illuminate your features, shadows dancing on your pretty face, eyes shining under the destructive fire.
“I was waiting for you.” You flick your eyes over to his form, lips curling into an amused smile. “Your meal's getting cold.”
Hobie chuckles under his breath, the reins under his gloved hand tightens in his hold. “What's for supper?” His horse huffs, hoof kicking dirt and dust.
“Rabbit, specially caught for you. And some beans to remind you of your old country.” You stand up, dusting your pants.
He sucks in his teeth, eyes glancing over to the river nearby. “I don't miss the old country that much.” When his green eyes return over to you, you're sitting on your horse, grinning from ear to ear. His hands slowly reach for his lasso.
“Oh I'm sure you miss something.” You send him a flirty wink. “Me perhaps? Don't pretend you don't like the chase, Hobie.” Your horse neighs in agreement.
He smiles, a ghost of amusement flickering from his jade eyes. “You've had me runnin’ after you for about four months now, love. Sorry for not playin’ along today, just a bit tired is all.” He clicks his tongue to make his horse step closer to yours. His hand wraps around his lasso on his belt.
“Oh poor bounty hunter.” You coo sweetly.
“You know what happens next. You have to come with me, love.”
You feign a tired sigh, your grin says otherwise. “If you tried your luck tonight we would've done just that. Well, after dinner of course, I'm a romantic, you see.”
“I would have said yes but your three grand bounty makes me think twice.” Hobie tamps down a laugh, heat prickling his cheeks. He has found that you've had that effect on him. “You know me, job comes first.”
“That's too bad. Maybe on our next date then!” Rearing your horse, you make her kick the boiling pot, spilling its hot contents and the heated coal all over the ground, startling his poor horse. You leave him in the dust once again.
Hobie bites his lower lip to stop an excited guffaw from escaping. He follows quickly, right after he briefly calms his startled horse.
Wind nips at his cheeks as he jumps over broken down trees, dodges rocks and cliffs, and soon after, he sees your form in the distance. With victory already in his grasp, he takes his lasso, swinging it expertly over his head. Calculating his throw, he aims, lasso flying over head.
“Wha–!” The rope cinches around your torso, wrapping you in its rough hemp, making you fall off your horse harshly on the dusty ground. “Fuck! That hurt, Hobie!” Head throbbing, you hear footsteps running frantically towards you. Instead of meeting with the end of a pistol, you feel his warm hands gently hold you. “Ow. Was that necessary? I thought we had something going on, cowboy.”
Hobie takes his gloves off to examine your bleeding forehead. There's a cut just above your brow, but other than that, you're alright. He sighs in relief, hands still carefully holding you in place. If not for his lasso around you, you'd think your handsome bounty hunter actually cares for you.
“Sure, I'm alright, Hobie, nothing to be worried about.” You sarcastically say, one eye closed as blood ebbs from your cut down to your eyelids. “I just hit my head, no biggie—!” The second you meet with his worried eyes, you clamp down. Hands suddenly clammy, mouth turning dry, and stomach doing somersaults, you haven't seen him this close to you. His eyes are greener than anything you've ever seen, pools of the greenest of clovers; and face chiseled to perfection. He looks wonderous in this light. And surprisingly, he looks like he actually cares. “Shit.” You say under your breath, flirty exterior crumbling around his boots. Your voice wakes Hobie up from his lovestruck gaze.
He clears his throat, palms now hovering above your arms. “You look alright.”
Light lines up with his head, an orange halo appears, bathing him in its glow. “I think I have a concussion.” You swallow down your sudden bashfulness.
His brows furrowed, hand tentatively reaching for your chin to carefully check you again. “Does your head hurt?” His voice is soft, and his hand is warm and softer than you thought despite his callouses. You think it all adds to the mystery of the famous bounty hunter right in front of you.
His touch alone almost made you want to surrender. Almost.
You flutter your lashes, “do all the men back in England look just as good as you?”
Hobie lets out a chuckle. A simple act that has the butterflies in your stomach fly wildly. “Just a handful of us.”
“I'm lucky then.”
Hobie squeezes your chin, for a moment, a comfortable silence hangs in the air. You could sit there forever and just look at him. He feels the same way with his fingers brushing along your bottom lip. The river behind continues to flow, water crashing loudly against the rocky river beds just a jump away from the cliff behind you.
Suddenly, his horse neighs behind him. Popping the bubble of affection around the two of you. Hobie clears his throat, and you look away, flustered. He takes his hand off your chin to help you off your feet wordlessly. Tying the lasso around you, he keeps his hands to himself, or tries to as you watch him with your eyes that are practically shaped like hearts. A trait that is unheard of from a feared outlaw like yourself.
“I have to bring you in.” He sounds like he's trying to convince himself.
Arms bound to your sides, you tilt your head to meet with his downturned eyes. “D’you have to, hm, cowboy?”
Hobie straightens up, lifting your head up with his thumb pressing under your chin. He leans close, stealing the breath from your lungs. “I'm not a lawman. So I don't have to.”
You smile sweetly, “I hear a ‘but’ coming.”
Hobie chuckles deeply. “But three grand is enticin’.”
“More enticing than me?”
Hobie inhales sharply, as if he's trying to restrain himself. From doing what? You suppose you have to find out.
He makes a move to walk away to grab your horse, but you stop him with your hands grabbing at his belt buckle, fingers wrapped around the cold metal as you yank him closer to you. Your arms might be bound, but your hands remain free to your sides.
“Why don't you answer my question, cowboy?”
Hobie's eyes flick over to your hand, heart thudding loudly in his chest as he bracelets his fingers around your wrist. His thumb brushes along your pulse point, feeling your heart sync with his own.
“Because you'd love my answer to that, love. But my debts won't.”
Leaning close, you reach his lips with your own floating dangerously close above it. Briefly, you both stand there, indulging in each other's presence. Feeling like you two are the only people left in the whole world. A life with you flashes in the back of his mind. And your vision fills with only him.
With pursed lips, you slowly let go of his belt buckle. One finger at a time. “Okay then.”
Hobie feels like you've stolen his heart right there and then. Fitting well with an outlaw. Hell, he'd even let you keep it since your heart is in his grasp too.
“‘Okay?’”
You shrug, backing away. “Yeah, okay.”
“Just like that?” His fingers linger on your skin for a second. You're a mystery to him, a mystery he'd like to get to know better.
“Mm-hmm, just like that.”
Hobie blinks, shaking off his doubts. “Stay there.”
“Yep, staying right here, cowboy. Not going anywhere.”
With him walking off towards your horse to hitch it with his own, you waste no time to run off towards the edge of the cliff.
“Shit!” Hobie scrambles to get to you as you jump off. His fingers graze the ropes, and you even have the audacity to wink at him as you plunge down towards the cold water. He yells after you, watching the water with his quickening heartbeat, waiting for you to resurface. “Fuck!” Starting to take off his hat and jacket, he prepares to jump after you. “Hold on!”
Before he could dive, he sees you waving at him as the currents carry you downstream. He sighs in relief, muscles relaxing, chuckling to himself.
“See you later, cowboy!” You yell at him, floating down like you're having the time of your life. Blowing a kiss at him, your eyes stayed on him whilst he watched you go until he's barely a dot in your vision.
He hears your horse gallop away, and he pinches the bridge of his nose. His horse nudges him with his snout, huffing and puffing at him. You've won once again.
“See you later, love.”

"Bastet" [Oil on Hemp, 27 x 20"] by @lukehillestad, for the Beautiful Bizarre curated exhibition 'Fable & Folklore'.
"The Egyptian lore of Bastet emerged with their veneration of cats. They were loved for their beauty, fertility, and ability to protect against illness by ridding the Egyptians’ grain storages of rodents. Bastet embodies the great range of the archetypal cat. She is fierce, motherly, and has a relationship with humans that is both independent and symbiotic. In the story, she protects Ra from the serpent Apep, using her knife to take off the snake’s head. It is a story of the Sun’s daily victory, with exceptions such as an eclipse, when Apep is successful."

Talk to Dad about this farm, and he’ll try and tell you it was a steal. Fertile soil, good acre-age, and because it’s on the cliffs, close to the polluted waters of the channel, the old owners couldn’t find a buyer and they were desperate to sell.
But the honest truth is, he was tricked.
Reality doesn’t stay still, when the winds blow from the south. Your people did that - they poisoned the air. Every spring, something grows here, but it’s a different harvest each time, and there’s no guarantee it’ll be edible. Flax, hemp, a sour kind of barley.
Once, we thought it was corn, but when you peeled the ears open, there was nothing but a staring, blinking eye inside each one. We had to torch the whole field.
He spent all his money on farming equipment he doesn’t know how to use, but he can’t make any kind of profit from this place, because he never knows what the crop is going to be until he cuts into it.
Nothing sadder than a con-man who won’t admit he’s been conned.

Arsenal VS Manchester City- Victory at Meadow Park
Great game today ! I thought we played great, we played like we wanted to win.
In the first 5-10 minutes, City saw the most of the possesion, they played very high, Lotte made a mistake that caused her to give the ball away to Hemp in the box but other than that, I think she had a great game, she really stepped up. We really had to fight for possession, Ilistedt made some fantastic blocks to stop Bunny Shaw.
We kepy making mistakes inside our box, Manu made a mistake that gave the ball away to Chloe Kelly, her possession and distribution isn't that good.
STEPH'S GOAL, the pass from Caitlin, the Ausenal link up. Before the Steph goal, City were dominating and creating chance after chance, you felt like it was only a matter of time, but then Steph went and shot it into the back of the net.
Esme Morgan's passes to their attacking line were dangerous, everytime Bunny Shaw got onto the end of one of them I was a bit scared.
Kims penalty saved, it wasn't a good penalty, should we switch penalty takers ? I dont think so, 18/23 converted penaties is still a fantastic stat. After that we continued to dominate and see most of the ball.
Manu played amazing today, genuinely, she actually moved and dived to save the ball, amazing to punch it just over the bar towards the end of the game, it reminded me of how she was at the start of last season. It was also really nice that she called for the medics when someone in the crowd was having an emergency.
The second half, City started out strong, they were creating quality chances but the finishing was just not there, our defence was really defencing today. In the run up to the City goal, BIG block from Lia, Frida should have let Kim clear the ball, and then obviously Kelly gets the goal.
Big mistake from Khiara Keating, but she's young, she'll have other chances, she made some good saves, including managing to save the penalty, she'll come back. Stina scoring after 10-15 minutes of being on, what else can you say about her ;)
A bit baffled how Kyra is getting 0 minutes, I'd love to see her on the pitch, I dont understand why we'd pay so much if we weren't going to use her.
Overall good performance today, our attacking depth is so BACK, but I'll love it even more when our defence is back.

i need to convince myself i'm making SOME progress with this godforsaken short story so i'm going to post a bit of the draft here. just to say it exists, three friggin weeks later
-
Red smoke like a sunrise, the air of this strange planet choked in the soot of our victory. The battlefield bright with mech debris: fertilizer drones commandeered from our home colony, reprogrammed, weaponized. Sent with us in the forward dropships; keyed to our command.
We would not have bombs, otherwise. We would not have poison.
We are farmers. We are a gentle people.
Our organic-glass tubing spreads like strawberry runners over the scorched alien terrain, its density determined by algorithm. At home, this latticework would have delivered nutrients and treated the soil. It would have brought life to barren ground, a resource available to all by sacred human right. Enshrined in our charter and constitution: life. The right to it.
But the dose makes the poison. My new compound spreads quickly; contaminates enemy soil.
Some of us have fallen. Our exosuits, designed for solar satellite repair work, apply coagulant and brace bones. Our respirators, meant for deep-sea environmental preservation missions, work to filter out the blight we’ve brought. In this way our fragile psyches are insulated from the shocking scent of death.
But not the topography of it. Not its shape.
We’ve pulled the enemy out by the root. The General told us we didn’t have a choice. They’d tortured our ambassador, destroyed our lunar seed vaults, attempted a blockade. They were coming for us. We had to.
We had to.
The General strides across ruined plains, his body like a scar against the sun. A sharp and sudden light reflects from some piece of him: his exo, his command glove, the clasp of his cape. The light of him drives straight through me.
He is a colossus. He saved us. He needs me and he saved us and I want to go to him, but I can’t even stand.
Smoke plumes rise like distant grain silos. I vomit into my respirator, trapped with the scent of myself; the scum. I fade.
-
“Can I ask what you’re making, sir?” Lieutenant █████ asks, sitting in the patient bed next to mine. Since the surgeons woke her an hour ago, she’s done nothing but yank on her fingers like she wants them removed: first the right hand, then the left.
“A gown for a newborn,” I croak past a damaged throat. “My wife’s in the third trimester back home.”
“Oh. Is this your first?”
“The first I haven’t carried myself.” I wrap homespun wool around my hook, offered by our neighbors in exchange for my help reprogramming their fertilizer lattice during the last dry season. I brought skeins of it with me in the forward fleet; an entire basket in my quarters. “I owe my older boys new sweaters. They need clothes whether there’s a war on or not.”
█████ giggles, a little manic, as though I’ve told a joke.
Her hemp bag boasts the emblem of the Weather Shaper’s Syndicate: a civilian expertise that earned her a hasty officer rank in my Specialist Corps. Her leg ends just above the knee, but she’ll be fitted with a biosynth soon. The doctors probably completed a full vitamin rebalance when she was under. Probably countered a genetic susceptibility or two, just because they could.
“At least there isn’t anymore,” she says. When I look at her, she clarifies: “A war. We ended it? Just now? Or at least once the talks end.”
When I give her no answer, she goes back to pulling at her fingers. Her sunken eyes dart from my bandaged ribs to the baby’s sleeve taking form under my hands.
The medi-ship’s plant wall generates a cocktail of pristine air and corticosteroids. Beneath us, the wreckage of a planet turns.
She tries again: “It—it was terrible. As inhuman as they tell you in the ethics practicums as a kid, like something out of the old world. I saw—but the General said it was worth it. To protect everyone. Back home?”
Her gaze asks for my authority as a substitute for forgiveness. She looks very young, and I become very angry.
“What was worth it?” I say it calmly. I don’t know why I say it at all.
“I…the General said—”
“Which part do you mean? Specifically.”
Her smile trembles; she presses the button for pain reliever. She doesn’t fully understand it yet, the scale of what we’ve done, but her body feels it like a fever.
I make my voice bright and effusive. “No need to be so modest. Your team did well punching holes in their ionosphere. Between that and the typhoon seeding, how many did you take down before the dropships even landed?”
“Sir?”
“Let’s talk in planetary percentages. Let’s talk in long-term damage.”
Our founding charter, the General’s steel voice says in my head—like he’d said to the Colony Council, two years ago—allows for militia muster in self-defense. It allows for the ethical deployment of minimum effective force. If you grant me the authority—
I smell my own vomit again, its own kind of ghost.
“Sir—Commander ██████,” the weather shaper says faintly. “I carried out your orders.”
“You did.” I rip back a row to fix a dropped stitch. My sheets are hand-sown and clean. “You’re right. He’s right. We had to protect ourselves.”
A gift box looms at the foot of my bed. It had taken me some hours to work up the courage to open it. Inside sits a bottle of wine from my home syndicate—the General knows I like good wine—and some kind of complicated artisan decanter, constructed as a tangle of glass roots as tall as my forearm.
The decanter leans by design, like a lurching soldier. It casts sharp-twisted shadows. It traps the light.
Swift recovery, my friend, the letter says, his cursive a series of slashes across the page. My heart races like a north-rabbit in flight. Like lying in the melting snow of a battlefield, watching his presence eat up the horizon like an Alexander of our own making. Like the line between love and fear.
I ask a nurse to decant the wine for his team as my thanks. The liquid works through branching blown-glass roots. A maze of red, like the fertilizer lattice I programmed to poison a hundred thousand miles of enemy farmland. Like strawberry runners.
-
I do not want the decanter.
Its complex and scarless surface speaks to the work of a master artisan. At home I would have had to trade a lattice designed from scratch in return for a product so fine. But people—people who meet him, understand him—give the General things for free.
I visit the General’s quarters on the Plethora, my ribs still aching, planning to explain that my dogs would just knock his gift from its shelf. That my boys play rowdy. That the house my great-grandfather built in the first days of the Colony is small, each space designed for function (solar power and a heat pump and green-growing walls). The better to keep to the Charter; give back to the land.
Instead, I stand at his doorway and fail to knock. I’ve found I can’t picture his face anymore, not outside of that one half-conscious moment: the battlefield, the hard red horizon.
A superimposition of my other memories. An invasion.
The door slides open and I jump. His shadow swallows mine. His massive shoulders fill the doorway.
He looks at me and I’m wrung out clean, a piece of fabric on the line. His eyes are deepest green.
“██████,” he greets me softly, and invites me in.
#it's about uhhhh. the slippery state of utopia and also sort of about season one of st:disco lmao#i am thinking of breaking the first scene into bits and seeding it through the second#working title is 'strange decanter'#my writing

The Dream Is Alive for Australia
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f9b444d2a31e9c7dca80860359df9c9a/6912339c8dccfb9c-bf/s540x810/611ad81d19c32c3d6062dad06046b35b2f2379f3.jpg)
We are down to the last four teams of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and co-hosts Australia are still alive after a dramatic victory over France on 12 August in Brisbane.
The match was scoreless after one-hundred and twenty minutes of football. This meant that the contest would be decided on penalties.
Due to the time difference, I was unable to watch the match live. But after five rounds of kicks, the score was tied 3-3.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b3dd096f2267278719b4618db7f481fe/6912339c8dccfb9c-03/s540x810/f2be73db94363ead600c1059b619db8f4ea48a33.jpg)
Australia finally prevailed after ten rounds of kicks; the final shootout score was 7-6.
As mentioned earlier, I had to watch the shootout on reply, but even watching on replay was intense.
I really am at a loss for words after seeing Australia make it this far.
From the standpoint of the French, it was sad to see Eugenie Le Sommer likely play in her final World Cup.
Australia will face England in the semifinals on 16 August in Sydney and online bookmaker Bet365 has the latest wagers.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3d5be3a701c8603f701ab0b054352516/6912339c8dccfb9c-df/s540x810/7df149d348024f505623a3ae2bfd7eca89388ddc.jpg)
Currently England is favored with 13/10 odds while Australia has 12/5 odds, and the odds for a draw are 21/10.
In all honesty, I don’t buy into the fact that the football experts are probably favoring England to defeat Australia.
When looking at the four teams remaining – Spain, Sweden, Australia, England – it is easy to say that the two finalists will be Sweden and England.
But England was very fortunate to get past Colombia in the quarterfinals.
The Colombians should have held a 1-0 lead going into the interval, but goalkeeper Catalina Perez made a crucial mistake that allowed Lauren Hemp to score an easy equalizer in the seventh minute of first half stoppage time.
Alessia Russo would score the winner just after the hour mark as England won 2-1.
Yet when looking back at the match, I think it is clear that Australia can definitely get past England with the help of the home supporters.
Similar to the other semifinal match, I think it is hard to say which team is favored. All I know is that it will be a battle from start to finish.
Prediction: Australia 2-2 England, Australia wins on penalties

Recent Delhi High Court Verdict on Hemp's Legality
Wait wait wait! Stop scrolling because you have to check this sensation thanks to the recent Delhi High Court decision that's got everyone talking.
In January 2022, the Delhi High Court affirmed the medical use of hemp, a plant that is a cousin of marijuana. The court's decision is a major victory for advocates of hemp legalization, who have argued that the plant has a number of potential medical benefits, including the treatment of pain, anxiety, and epilepsy. The court's ruling also comes at a time when there is growing scientific evidence to support the medical use of hemp.
Now just think of this verdict like a seed planted in fertile soil, and we'll be watching closely to see how it grows. It's high time we need to explore the vast potential of hemp in various industries and celebrate its historical roots in Ayurveda and traditional Indian medicine.

Dog Muzzles: Pushing of the Control and Compliance Sector
Dog muzzles are extremely beneficial As sources of altering canine actions and ensuring the major of your dog and those around him/her. Regardless if you are doing obedience training, handling with aggression, or trying to curtail your dog from chewing on or even barking at anything, a muzzle is handy for your use.
Our collection of dog muzzles includes several types to cater for various needs used under different situations and by owners with preferences. Instead of hard wire muzzles that only allow panting and drinking, we have basket muzzles with fabric ones that are made out of soft materials only for limited use like grooming or a visit to your vet.
Made of high-grade materials including strong nylon, mesh for breathability, and soft padding, the muzzles will form a snug fit with reduced irritation. Dog Handler Vest: Hit the Ground Running for Victory

Pouches to hold your phone, keys or wallet, shoulder straps in one or two styles, many colors, our vests have all the convenience and functionality, with a stunning fit, you are all set to work on your fitness goals without any distractions.
Coming from reliable and waterproof materials, our harnesses consist of different pockets and compartments, for carrying treats, training equipment or personal stuff and many others. Dog Bite Tugs: In-Game Therapies: Relationship Maintenance
Another helpful strategy for connecting the links between you and your dog and learning the most awesome behaviors will be through exposing your dog to fun play sessions while you’re training. Unlike other pet leashes, which are just straps with weaving hemp and nylon threads, ours are intensively knotted in a way that makes them extremely strong. The shields will not be the only element for the game. For safety, the player can use them during outdoor games, runs, and other activities. But i.e. we recommend using interactive play toys for that game instead while the verbal reprimand is given after that game.
With a foundational material varying from the rugged braided nylon rope to the strong jute rope textured with soft fleece, and a selection that features highly functional multiple shapes and sizes, the multifaceted “bite tug” has been crafted to serve the varied style & toughness of play for all dogs alike. Is it the simplicity of beginner’s commands or obedience training or the advanced strategic scented searches, our dog bite tug can certainly provide the "fun" daily entertainment for your dog.
Dog Training Clickers: Precise Training Tools
The dog clickers are the tools as they are used mainly for positive reinforcement training that helps to mark desirable behaviors with the specific sound. The ergonomic design of our clickers aids in easy use and is accompanied with an audible click so they can be effective for communication with your dog.
Consistent employment of such a clicker will set a pace of your training by giving clear evidence and verification. Whether you are teaching starter obedience commands or more advanced tricks, a clicker is a very diverse tool that improves communication and learning speed.
Training Treat Pouches: The fast and easy way to save your rewards
Training treat pouches are indispensable. They ought to be part of every trainer's arsenal. They need to permit you free both hands during the sessions while at the same time assuring quick access to the rewards. Our pouches are in durable construction, and with adjustable straps and multiple compartments, you can carry items such as treats, toys and notes.
The product is made light and portable, water resistant, and easy to maintain as well. They come with magnet closures and utility drawstring tops that help keep treats fresh, not flies all over the place, allowing you to solely focus on the performance without distractions.
Agility Equipment: Fun and Functional Training Gear
Agility work is a wonderful and fun way to have a great work out for both mind and body. At the same time it breaks the self-doubt and enables your dog to progress more confidently through the course. We offer agility equipment which consists of multiple objects including jumps, tunnels, weaves and kits for different levels of agility training and home-training.
This equipment is engineered from top-notch materials like PVC and aluminum of the lighter kind, thus transportation and storage are easy. The kind of fun you and your dog have in agility when you introduce novel equipment, develop technical skills or scrimmage for competitions depends on how you use our apparatus as a safe and stimulating environment to learn and play in.
Training Whistles: Versatile Communication Tools
Whistles used in training are multifunctional tools for communication over long distances and bringing dogs back to the trainer when they are called. Our whistles can be inclinometer and comparing signal frequencies or vibration designs and precision controllable, ergonomic adjustable and comfortable.
Adopting a training whistle for daily exercise will ensure you have a tool that’ll help you reinforce your commands and have good recall in challenging environments. Whether you are training your dog in the field, at the park or even in the backyard, a whistle will provide an audible alert, given that it’s consistent, clear, and breaks through distractions. This reinforces the connection you have with your dog.
Conclusion
We are motivated to give dog owners and trainers access to a full array of premium quality equipment that can be used for training a dog safely, and the fun experience is respected. Your equipment is no less important than your dog's gear. We carry essential items like muzzle and prong collar covers as well as advanced tools like choker line, handler vest, bite toy, clicker, treat pouch, agility set-up, and training whistle. Basically, we stock all the equipment you may need to create a strong and lasting bond with your dog.
Get through our collection today and see for yourself how our dog equipment for training is adapted to provide safety, comfort, and most importantly, you and your dog will get satisfaction from it.
