do you remember merih demiral who at the Euro 2024 tournament received a two-game suspension from UEFA because he made the infamous "grey wolves" hand gesture? (gw is a fascist, turkish nationalist and pan-turkic organization)
well, just so you know, in the city balu, turkey, they've just unveiled his statue.

This is Aral Simsir, a Turkish footballer who shouted Free Palestine during a game in Tel Aviv. He was later elbowed by one of the Israeli players and attacked in the tunnel after full time.
Guess who UEFA is "investigating" 🙄

hi there! i’ve just lost my job over this so now have no issues sharing this online. i was (up until three days ago) a journalist for a norwegian news company, specially covering women’s football mainly, but also some more general men’s stuff, and had been in my role at varying levels for 10 years now.
part of my last assignment granted me the incredible opportunity to attend the ballon d’or ceremony with the hopes of covering CGH’s win (obviously that didn’t happen which is sad from a norwegian pov). i’ve met and spoken with CGH a few times before as well as most of the norwegian national team at some point down the line.
anyway, getting off topic there. i attended with my direct boss who sits underneath the sports editor in the hierarchy of the organisation. our seats were behind a group of uefa execs and when jenni hermoso went onto stage i wasn’t expecting them to even applaud or look remotely happy.
but what i wasn’t expecting, was the complete vitriol that left their mouths the entire time she was on stage. they also refused to stand when prompted with the rest of us. and i told my boss that this would be something we should try and ask them about, such was the level of hatred displayed.
he agreed and so we approached them after the ceremony, at which they all gave the standard uefa responses that they don’t support gender discrimination etc.
however, we did in fact see two of them directly confronting Hermoso, where they quite frankly, laid into her for attending, getting the award, standing up for herself and other women.
she was taken away by her chaperone for the evening , quite clearly upset and when we got back to norway we put in a request with her people to interview her about it.
we also approached the sports editor to tell him we wished to cover the events and were told under no circumstances were we to touch it. we were confused because when the world cup happened we were asked to churn out so many articles about everything. it turns out uefa had been in touch whilst we were returning home and threatened legal action for anything being published against their execs
when i argued that is quite literally silencing journalists, i was told to step back in line and just do my job.
so now i don’t have a job
and uefa can go fuck themselves
holy shit, is this real? if so, i cannot believe that happened to you, anon. 🤯
what a horrible set of events on so many levels. but the sad thing is that i am not surprised.
and i really hope that you land on your feet. we need more ethical people in the world of futfem/women's football journalism that haven't sold their soul to uefa and fifa and rfef and every other corrupt organisation that's running football on this planet. 🙏

with the surprise being expressed towards the violence of serbian fans before their match vs engalnd i would like to remind everyone that serbia is responsible for multiple genocides in the balkans. croatia, bosnia and kosova all have horrific stories to tell about serbia.
this might not seem serious until you find out that only in kosova over 20000 people (including children) were raped, most if not all people from kosova had to leave their country to be ruined, tens of thousands of people were tragically killed, thousands are still missing, hundreds of cities, homes, mosques were destroyed, etc.
the reason why this ties into the serbian fans at euro 2024 is because of the banners they put up: kosova map with a serbian flag over it. to this day, serbs continue to claim kosova as theirs, despite the absolute horror they caused. in fact, they continue to be proud of it.
for anyone who doesn’t know, kosova historically has been a part of albania, having over a 95% ethnically albanian population, speaking the same language, having the same culture etc. the reason why kosova was left out of albania was because of the circumstances in 1912, when albania claimed its independence. the balkan wars were ongoing and if albania hadn’t claimed its independence then, more land would be stolen, so they ultimately decided it would be better to be independent with that amount of land rather than lose more.

At Euro 2028, we need to get rid of penalties. If the teams don't score or it's a draw by the 90th minute, the captains have to perform K-pop dances. Whoever gets the best score from the public wins the match

All Spanish nationalists against the fines a couple of players of the Spanish football NT have recieved for chanting "Gibraltar is Spanish!" before thousands of people because they're just patriots against the colonization of their country while getting angry at the same time when Morocco includes Ceuta and Melilla in their maps.

i know everyone’s situations were complicated and i suppose it was good to get different perspectives on what had happened but having olga, ivana, laia, and teresa lowkey felt like a slap in the face to all the others who sacrificed so much because they were some of the ones who benefited a bit from the situation. and olga’s comment? yikes 😬
well, the purpose of the documentary was to give a voice to how complex this situation was, how the players were not unified, and how there were divisions between them. in the beginning everything was divided into scabs vs 'las 15' and it's just not so black and white. and i thought that came across quite clearly. so it at least attempted to show that through multiple perspectives.
as for ivana, she's the worst, but at least she was honest in her comments during the documentary. and teresa was actually self-critical and reflective about her role in it, which shows a lot of maturity imo. and i'm very happy that both lola and paños participated and were able to give a voice to those who were left behind.
i bet the makers reached out to more players than just these ones, but these were the players who agreed to participate in the documentary, so it is what it is.
you all need to get in line. 😅 there are a whole lot of people who cannot stand olga, myself included! she's so terrible 🙄
norway journalist anon, this blog supports you! 🙏
