Hi! I saw that your requests were open, so I was wondering when if you can do where the team meets Fem! Y/n who is mute and is La’an’s twin sister?
Two Parts of a Whole
Pairing: (familial) La'an Noonien-Singh x fem!mute!reader; Crew x fem!mute!reader Fandom: Star Trek Strange New World Words: 4.5K Warnings: Mentions of La'an's Gorn trauma, Spoilers towards season 1 A/N: Thank you so much for requesting!! I hope it's satisfactory because this is the first time I wrote something like that. To be honest, I'm not entirely satisfied with it, but it won't get better. And I'm sorry that it took so long
The promenade of the space station she was currently on was packed and she was grateful that she had been able to get an empty spot on one of the pillars near the airlock. Not only several freighters had arrived almost simultaneously, but also two Vulcan research ships and an Andorian battle cruiser of the Imperial Guard. She had only noticed them in passing, however, as her focus was on the huge Federation starship. The USS Enterprise, NCC - 1701, Constitution Class and the flagship of the fleet. She, however, only cared about, one person on this huge ship.
Searchingly, she bobbed up and down, heel to toe and back again, hands clasped behind her back. Apparently she seemed to be so conspicuous that people were worried, because she was approached by an Andorian woman, quite brusquely, asking if she needed help, but she had quickly waved her aside. She was doing fine, even better than that, after all, she would be able to see her sister for the first time in months.
Perhaps it was a little paranoid of her to worry after such a short time, but the meeting with the Gorn had also left its mark on her. Unlike the rest of her family, she had not been on the SS Puget Sound because she had contracted Bolian smallpox, which was highly contagious, on the space station where they had stopped. Accordingly, she and her aunt, who was also ill, had been left on the station, with the expectation of returning to collect them after two weeks. At that time, no one could have guessed that it wouldn't come like that.
Her world had collapsed that day and, believing she had lost her entire family, she had spent days crying and refusing to eat or drink. And she probably would have gone on with it, had it not been for her aunt, who had begged her that her family had not wanted it that way and that she should not leave her alone. So she had carried on with her life as best she could, but it had seemed hollow and empty to her. Her siblings, but especially her twin, had been her motivation, her joy of life. A life without them had become unimaginable for her.
But just when she had convinced herself that it might, just maybe, be possible to survive without her family, the news arrived. La'an had survived. Her sister was alive. At first she hadn't wanted to believe it, the fear of raising her hopes unnecessarily was too great. Even when they were standing at the airlock, she had vehemently refused to even consider the possibility that she might still be alive. It was only when La'an had thrown herself around her neck, crying, and she had realised that, yes, La'an was alive, that she had been unable to hold on any longer and had cried just as unrestrainedly as La'an.
For the next few months, the twins were inseparable. Neither could last more than a few minutes in a room without the other, and their aunt had caught them both lying close together in bed at night to feel each other's body heat. Over the years, the situation had improved, but she still felt an uncomfortable feeling in her stomach when they were apart for long periods of time. She had been all the happier when she had learned that their paths would cross on this space station.
She herself was only nearby because she had been assigned by Starfleet to look more closely into the culture of Jitrav IV, with which it had only recently made contact. Strictly speaking, she was not a member of Starfleet in the sense of travelling the galaxy, but more in the sense of gathering information and reporting it back. In the past, she might have enjoyed flying through the quadrant in starships and getting to know new civilisations, but after the disaster with the Gorn, she had developed a real phobia about starships.
So she had devoted herself to exploring alien cultures from the safe distance of her home on Earth, but her work had been so distinguished that Starfleet had taken notice and wanted to hire her on one of their ships. She had decided against it, but in the end had gotten a relatively good deal out of it: Although she had to travel by starship from time to time, she would spend longer periods on other planets to learn about their cultures and languages. She documented her research thoroughly and sent it to Starfleet, whereas they paid for all her expenses as long as they remained within reason.
But this fear had not stopped her from getting into the first shuttle to this space station when La'an had told her that the Enterprise would dock there. She had been standing at her spot since early morning so as not to miss her sister. A few minutes ago, the first stream of Starfleet officers had poured onto the Promenade and she had to do her best to calm down. She knew La'an. She would not disembark until she was truly one hundred percent sure that there were no further duties. Knowing that her sister would need some more time, she began to observe the crowd of officers.
Frowning, she realised that most of them were human. She had expected this, but she had also been convinced that there had to be more non-humans on board. She noticed two Tellarites, a handful of Bolians and she thought she caught a glimpse of a Vulcan in a blue uniform out of the corner of her eye.
After twenty minutes of waiting, she saw an Aenar in a red uniform who was accompanied by a young woman in an equally red uniform who was talking intensely to him. Although he seemed grumpy and annoyed and gave the impression that he was not listening, she could see from his antennae directed at the young woman and the fact that she had spent two years on Andoria among Andorians and Aenar that he was listening more than attentively to her. Smiling, she shook her head and turned her attention back to the airlock. What a strange combination.
All in all, it took almost three quarters of an hour until she finally spotted her sister's dark braids, which were tightly braided back, but by then she could no longer be stopped. The promenade had emptied out a little in the meantime, so it wasn't particularly difficult for her to make her way to La'an, who fortunately noticed her in time. The latter fortunately noticed her in time to put her bag down before she crashed into the security officers. " Oof-" La'an groaned, but chuckled softly in response and after a short time of stiffness also put her arms around her to press her twin sister against her.
For a while they held each other tightly, even if it earned them some strange looks from bystanders. When she broke away from La'an, she noticed that she had blushed a little, but she didn't care. You are late, she signed. La'an nodded and smiled a little stiffly. "I know. However, I wanted to make sure everything was ready myself before I went to disembark." The young woman raised an eyebrow. Besides, you had to keep your reputation. La'an rolled her eyes. "Maybe a little."
La'an picked up her bags and followed her. They had agreed in advance to share quarters, so she just followed her to her quarters. Since it was difficult to converse while walking if one had to sign, they walked side by side in comfortable silence without another word to the other. It didn't bother her, as she knew that she and La'an would have plenty of time to talk. At the moment, it was simply important to her that her sister was with her again. Halfway to the lift, however, a voice stopped them. "Lieutenant Singh!"
They turned and she saw two women running towards them, whom she didn't know, her sister by all appearances did. One was slightly taller, had chin-length white-blonde hair and had apparently been the one who had called out to La'an. The other was smaller, had short dark hair and a cheeky grin on her lips. La'an just raised an eyebrow. "Yes?" "We were going out for a drink. Care to join us?" The taller one added with a quick glance at her" That goes for your...girlfriend too of course?" La'an narrowed her eyes. "She is my sister. And no thanks. I'm busy."
However, the two of them seemed not to have caught the last sentence, as the anthropologist and linguist was now the focus. "I didn't know you had a sister, Lieutenant." The blonde propped a hand on her hip as La'an took a deep breath. "Now you know." The shorter one held out her hand, which she hesitantly accepted. "My name is Erica Ortegas, Erica will do. And this is Christine." The blonde waved, but before she could do anything, La'an had placed a hand on her shoulder and hastily introduced her. "She is pleased to make your acquaintance, however we would like some time alone." Christine frowned. "Why don't you let her speak for herself?"
La'an's eyes only narrowed more, whereas she merely smiled in amusement and opened her mouth. Erica and Christine looked at her expectantly, only to look even more surprised when she began to sign instead. I'm mute and La'an translates for me, so it's all okay. She nodded her thanks to Christine. But thank you for your concern. After giving La'an a prompting look, she translated what her sister had said through clenched teeth, clearly annoyed at having been stopped by her colleagues.
Christine smiled but at the same time turned red in the face. "I'm sorry. Didn't mean it." She just tilted her head and nudged La'an. "That's all right. However, I would like to spend some time with my sister now." Erica and Christine, who was obviously still embarrassed by the whole thing, nodded and said a quick goodbye and she gave her sister a reproving look. You could have been a little nicer. La'an didn't respond any further.
Once in their quarters, La'an just barely took off her shoes and threw the bags on the floor before she fell backwards onto her bed and groaned. Her sister smiled slightly and snapped her hand to get her attention, whereupon she opened her eyes languidly. That bad? La'an sighed and sat up. "Well, I wouldn't know how to describe two run-ins with the Gorn any other way." She flinched and if she hadn't needed her hands to sign, she would have reached for La'an's. How? That was all she could bring herself to say, so much were her hands shaking. She knew how much the incident with the Gorn weighed on La'an, even more than on her, and the thought that her sister had had to face those monsters again did not make her feel at all comfortable.
La'an's voice broke several times before she was able to reply. "There were four Gorn ships. On Memorial Day. We barely got away, but we lost several crew members." She swallowed, but when she was asked if she wanted to stop, she replied in the negative. "The second time, we were on a planet, Valeo Beta V, responding to a distress call from a ship that had landed there. There weren't many of us, just a handful, and Enterprise had to move on and..." La'an broke off and her sister, who was now sitting next to her, squeezed her hand. In a shaky voice, La'an continued. "We found two survivors, however one was infected and before we knew it we were dealing with three hatchlings. Cadet Chia and Lieutenant Duke died. We almost lost our chief engineer as well."
But only almost? La'an laughed shakily. "It was more luck than good sense, really. We found out that the Gorn reproduce via their poison and Hemmer, our engineer, was hit. It didn't look good and without Doctor M'Benga on site...." She broke off. Gently her sister patted her back. He's all right though, isn't he? He's alive. "He was willing to sacrifice himself." La'an's voice was no more than a whisper and she had trouble understanding her. "I was the only one in the room with him, I could have stopped him, but I didn't do anything. I was too scared. If it hadn't been for the captain..." She tried to make calming noises to reassure La'an, however this seemed to have the opposite effect as she jumped up.
"No! You don't understand! I was ready to let a colleague, a friend, die because I was too scared! Because if I had thought even for a moment that he was from bloody Andoria, it might have occurred to me that he had a lower body temperature and consequently the process of hatching would be slowed! My fear almost killed Hemmer! How can I be head of security if my fear doesn't allow me to think clearly to protect the people who are under my protection?!"
She was shocked to see tears in La'an's eyes, which she resolutely wiped away. It's not your fault. She stood up and went over to her sister. Do you hear me? It is not your fault. He's alive, that's all that matters. "But I-" She clapped her hands loudly and interrupted La'an. No. It's not your fault, she repeated. Her gaze softened and she stroked La'an's shoulder. You have experienced traumatic things. No one blames you for being afraid. Most would have hidden in your place. Not you. No feelings of guilt. Please. La'an smiled bitterly before hugging her sister. "Thank you."
It took a while for the sisters to let go, but when they did, La'an seemed a lot more relaxed than before. At least, as relaxed as she could be. You have an Andorian as chief engineer? La'an frowned. "What makes you think that?" You said Andoria. "He's Aenar. They run even colder than Andorians. Don't ask me why though, I'm not a doctor."
I know. She grinned cheekily at her and they both had to think back to the incident in their childhood where La'an had tried to treat her wound with baking paper that did not absorb liquids. La'an smiled slightly. "I was six." So was I. Knew better anyway. She frowned briefly. Think I saw your chief engineer. "Oh yeah?"
She nodded. About that tall? She raised her hand. Red uniform. Grumpy? La'an smiled. "Sounds like Hemmer. Was he in company?" She nodded. Woman, small, short hair, black, red uniform. Talked a lot. La'an chuckled softly. "And that would be Uhura. She's a cadet, but one of the best linguists around. And she's somehow managed to befriend the grump of the ship." I didn't know you guys were friends. "Haha."
But he looked okay. Not hurt. A little grumpy, but healthy. "If that's your attempt to tell me it's all okay, stop. It's not making it better." She gave a silent sigh. Fine. But you need distraction. And relaxation. Her mind wandered back to the conversation from before. Fancy a drink?
~**~
It was like pulling teeth to convince La'an to go to the bar, but in the end she won and, followed by a somewhat grim-looking La'an, went down to the promenade, which by now, due to the hour, had filled up again. Which one do you want? Take your pick. La'an sighed and finally pointed to a larger establishment that formed the centre of the promenade. "If we're going to drink, let's do it properly." Her sister grinned and together they entered the room.
It was already well filled, yet she was still able to grab a small booth for them while La'an went to the bar to return with two colourful drinks. "Well then," La'an sighed as she slid into her seat and raised her glass. "To a wonderful evening." Her facial expressions were far too exaggerated, yet she didn't care. Cheers, she signed back, before picking up her glass herself and clinking her glass against her sister's.
The glasses clinked softly, the sound drowning in the noise around them, and in sync the sisters downed the drink. But while La'an remained expressionless, she screwed up her face and hastily put the glass down. What is this!!! La'an smiled to herself, which caused her sister's expression to darken further. "A little bit of everything." She screwed up her face. I'm going to have the hangover of my life. "Probably." Thank you for your compassion.
La'an grinned, however that smile faded as she looked past her sister. "Oh God." She turned, following La'an's gaze until her own gaze lingered on a group of people in Starfleet uniform. There were four people, three men and one woman, if she was so free to take that in. One of the men seemed to be "leading" the group. He wore a yellow and gold top, had silver and grey hair and a cheeky grin on his lips as he talked incessantly to the woman, also dressed in yellow. The latter had tied her dark hair into a high plait and did not look very impressed, but had a narrow smile on her lips. The other two were dressed in different shades of blue. One was slightly shorter, had a beard and was giving her dad vibes, whereas the other was clearly a Vulcan, his arms behind his back and one eyebrow raised sceptically.
The first man seemed to notice them because his face lit up and he waved at La'an before turning to the others, whereupon the group of four came towards them. La'an narrowed her eyes. "Just what I needed." Her sister gently slapped her arm and gave her a reproving look before the group was already beside them. "Hi." The man smiled broadly at her and briefly she wondered if this man had ever considered becoming a model for dental advertising, so white did his teeth appear. "Would it be okay if we joined you, La'an." The woman interposed. "Unless of course you'd like some time alone, which would be perfectly understandable." At that she gave the man a stern look, under which he shrank but his smile did not.
La'an glanced briefly at her sister before, in the face of the hopeful smile, she sighed in surrender and slid up a little to make room for the four. As everyone looked at her more or less expectantly, she took over the introductions. "This is my sister. She is currently working on Jitrav IV as a xeno-anthropologist. This is Captain Christopher Pike, Commander Una Chin-Riley, Lieutenant Spock and Doctor Joseph M'Benga. We serve together." She grinned at La'an. Oh really, I would never have guessed. La'an just rolled her eyes, however, she seemed to have caught the interest of the others.
The Vulcan, Spock, raised his eyebrow. "You use sign language." Mockingly, she raised her eyebrow in turn. Oh do I? I hadn't noticed. La'an snorted into her drink and tried to suppress a laugh. "What did she say?" Pike looked at her as if she was the most intriguing thing he'd ever seen, which flustered and confused her in equal measure. It wasn't that special now. La'an cleared her throat. "That she is pleased to make your acquaintance." Indignantly, she slapped La'an's arm. I didn't say that! "Subtext," La'an added, which earned her a snort.
She then turned her gaze to Spock. I am mute. Sign language is therefore my only way of communicating with others. It has been done that way for centuries. La'an translated for her without twisting the words in her mouth this time. Well, hands. M'Benga cleared his throat. "I thought there were treatments by now." She shook her head. No long-term ones. Besides, the risks are too great. After that, the four of them left it at that and they returned to a more relaxed conversation. At least they tried to, since most of the conversation was really just Pike and her, La'an's translations excluded, and the occasional comment from M'Benga. Una spoke up from time to time, as did La'an, but Spock was silent almost the entire time.
After half an hour, their drinks were empty and Pike offered to get more, which everyone agreed to, but he came back with two more people in tow, though she had already seen them. "Look who I ran into. Thought it would be nice to add to the fellowship," Pike grinned as he placed the drinks on the table, pointing to the Aenar and the young woman standing behind him. While the Aenar, Hemmer if she remembered correctly, looked just as grumpy as before, the young woman, Uhura, smiled all over her face and instantly locked eyes with her.
"Hi, you're Lieutenant Singh's sister, aren't you? The Captain had mentioned it." She held out her hand. "I'm Cadet Uhura, but please call me Nyota. This is Hemmer and don't worry," she leaned down a little towards her, "He's only half as grumpy as he looks." Hemmer scoffed. "I'm blind, not deaf, Uhura. I heard you." Nyota blushed but didn't apologise and on closer inspection, she could see that Hemmer didn't really look mad. She smiled at them both and quickly introduced herself. To her surprise, La'an didn't even bother to translate, as Nyota seemed able to do so herself.
"Oh, that's a beautiful name." You know sign language? Apparently one could see the surprise on her face, because Pike laughed softly. "Uhura is quite talented with languages, you might say." For the first time in half an hour, Spock spoke up. "Cadet Uhura speaks over thirty-seven languages, so by human parameters, she is more than 'quite talented'." Her jaw dropped? Thirty-seven? You're too good for this ship. That elicited a laugh from Uhura and after they had all scooted up, the other two had also squeezed onto the bench, Hemmer a little more reluctantly than Uhura, which was why she was now squeezed between La'an and Pike. There were worse things.
In time, they were joined by Erica and Christine, who had a young man named Sam Kirk in tow, which was the moment they decided to move the whole thing to a larger table. Now seated between M'Benga and Hemmer, facing La'an and Uhura, she noted with relief that her sister seemed to be starting to warm up. She knew that La'an would have preferred to be alone with her, but they would have plenty of time for that and at the moment she simply enjoyed being among so many people, which was not really common in her job, with the constant changing of places.
However, after almost another half hour of the crew telling their stories in Starfleet, including the amusing part of the Gorn disaster where Hemmer and Uhura were shot off the ship (Uhura confessed, admittedly a little drunk, that Hemmer had looked like a meerkat. The latter had protested, but his antennae and dark cheeks had betrayed him), they turned their attention to her and her profession. Patiently she answered, with La'an's help, until Uhura asked a question that made her think of something. "How do you manage to do your job with people who don't speak SSL (standard sign language)?"
For a moment she paused and frowned. What do you mean? La'an quietly translated for the rest and Uhura shifted back and forth in her seat. "Well, you meant that you were getting to know the native inhabitants of the planets to study their culture and the intricacies of their languages more closely, but how-" -can I do that without speaking myself? Uhura nodded and she smiled at her. One moment.
She rummaged in her trouser pocket and pulled out ten rings, each of which was connected to another, smaller ring with thin steel bands. She slipped them over her fingers so that the larger ring sat on her knuckle and the smaller one just below her fingernail. She then rolled up her sleeves to reveal two bracelets, one on each wrist, which she tapped on for some time until they beeped briefly and began to glow blue.
I don't need to speak. I have these. She signed, but a tinny female voice spoke for her. The people around her stared at her with wide eyes and of course Spock was the first to catch himself to ask a question. "Why didn't you use that before." It isn't complete. She regarded him with narrowed eyebrows as the voice continued to translate for her. It's missing the sensors for the face, arms and torso that I usually wear. Sign language is not just language of the hands. Is complex.
She looked down at her hands. It's not exact and I have to sign very slowly and clearly for the right thing to come out. Besides, it's slow. Takes longer than living translator. Not a problem with speeches, awkward with conversations. With that, however, she seemed to have caught Hemmer's attention. "Sure the whole thing couldn't be calibrated more sensitively?" She shrugged. Don't have a clue about such things. Starfleet takes care of that sort of thing. However, this is just a prototype, better is to come soon. Apparently she had signed too quickly and uncleanly this time, because the voice didn't spit out "Starfleet" but "Stargazer". Annoyed, she frowned and deactivated the bracelet.
"I think it's cool," Nyota declared, smiling broadly, which earned her a slight smile as well. Quite a bit.
After that, the conversation turned back to more mundane things and no one talked about the bracelets, even though she sensed that Hemmer was tempted to get his hands on them. He did not say so, but his antennae twitched conspicuously in her direction. After two hours, however, La'an and she decided to leave. This was accompanied by a series of disappointed noises, but they did not let themselves be brought down. After promising Uhura to polish up her SSL and Hemmer that he could look at her speaking aid tomorrow, she and La'an wished everyone a good night before they left the bar.
In the lift, they leaned against the wall and La'an heaved a sigh. "This is not how I had imagined my evening to be, if I'm honest." But it was still nice, wasn't it? La'an pursed her mouth. "Tolerable." She grinned at La'an. I can live with that. She pinched her sister's cheek to keep her attention. I like them, all of them. They're nice. La'an shook her head with a smile. "Especially Uhura though, right?" It's always nicer to talk to people who understand you without you. The lift doors opened and La'an pulled her behind her. "Come on. You owe me another game of cards and this time you won't be able to wriggle out of it."

White Christmas
12 Days of Christmas: Day 7
Plot: While staying with Chris for the holiday, you get your first white Christmas.
Pairing: Christopher Pike x Gn!Reader
Words: ~700; very short I know, sorry!
-
As you walked around Chris's kitchen, you felt your stomach grumble at the smell of the food cooking. You had come back to Chris's home on Earth for the Christmas leave. And you had decided to invite the others over for a pre-Christmas dinner, before they all did their own things for the vacation leave.
Spock, Una, La'an, Hemmer, M'Benga, Uhura, and Erica were all on their way. You and Chris danced around the kitchen together as you prepared the tables and food for their arrival. You had even gotten them each a gift for them to open after dinner.
As you finished setting the table, your eyes glanced up to the window, and you felt excitement jolt through you. As you ran over to the window, you caught Chris's attention.
"Are they here already?" He asked as he watched you.
"No, it's snowing!"
Chris smiled as he walked over to look out the window as well. "Yep, right on time" Looking over at you, he saw your excitement and he chuckled "Now, I know you've seen snow before."
You smiled "Yeah I have, but I've never had a white Christmas before. Do you think it will last?"
Chris nodded "Once it starts snowing out here, it often stays until Spring." You looked over at him and smiled brightly.
He smiled at your excitement and gently placing his hand on the back of your head. Pulling you closer, he pressed a kiss to your temple.
Looking at the clock, he smiled down at you "Wanna take a quick walk?"
You nodded gleefully before you quickly made your way to grab your coats. Chris smiled fondly at you as he took off his apron and followed.
As you made it outside, the snow began drifting quickly down from the sky. The sun was slowly being hidden by the heavy snow and clouds.
"It's already piling up!" You looked around at the ground, seeing the dirt and dead grass slowly being covered with a blanket of white.
Walking across the property with Chris, checking on the horses, and looking at the slowly freezing creak nearby. You stopped to stare out at the trees as the whole area started to look more like a winter wonderland.
"Catch!" You heard Chris yell, as you spun around.
As a small snowball smashed against your chest, you let out a startled gasp, followed by a laugh .
"Hey!" You yelled as you quickly reached down to scoop up some snow.
Throwing your own snowball at Chris, he quickly dodged it "Uh-oh." He joked as you began grabbing more.
As he started running up to you, you quickly threw another snowball, hitting him in the chest before he got to you.
Grabbing you, he held down your arms "Cease fire!" He yelled jokingly before you both stumbled backwards.
Falling to the ground with a yelp, you both began laughing.
Chris was lying over you, looking down at you "I know better than to start a war with you" He said with a chuckle.
You grinned up at him "As you should."
He smiled brightly as he gently began wiping away the flakes of snow landing on your face. He smiled adoringly down at you for a moment before he spoke.
"I'm glad you came here with me."
Your smile brightened "Me too."
Leaning down, he pressed a kiss to your lips, ignoring the cold that began soaking into your skin. Pulling away, he gently caressed your cheek with his gloved hand.
"This is our first Christmas together."
You smiled and nodded "Hopefully the first of many."
He smiled before pressing another quick kiss to your lips.
Hearing the distant roar of a shuttle approaching, both of you looked up, seeing one soaring over head towards the house. Chris looked down at you as you both remembered the dinner.
"Oh sh-" Jumping up, Chris grabbed your hands and pulled you up.
As you both began to race back towards the house, feet sinking into the deepening snow, you let out a laugh you couldn't contain.
You saw Chris grin from ahead of you as his hand stayed wrapped around yours.

@salrevientad remember how we discussed Hemura and the warp core... I wrote it. You can read below or on AO3
Uhura let out a shaky breath, sweat dripped down the back of her neck. Her core throbbed as a mix of Hemmer’s precum and her juices, slowly dripping down her inner thighs. She gripped the console in front of her, trying vainly to concentrate. But it was hard to think when all she wanted to do was move, to feel the glide of his perfect cock move in and out of her.
“Now remember it’s important to maintain-” Hemmer continued talking but Uhura could barely concentrate as the rumble of his voice. The feel of cock fully seated within her, her core ached, begging for him to move, to soothe the aching fullness. It was too much for her and yet not enough.
“Are you paying attention?” Hemmer murmured. He acted as if he were completely unaffected by their position. His warm breath tickled her neck as he leaned over her. How the man could do his work while balls deep in her, was astounding.
“Yes,” she lied. She bit her bottom lip to stop the moan from leaving her mouth as her core involuntarily clenched. She didn’t think it was possible to come from inaction, but here she was, a hair’s breadth away from coming.
“If you come before you adjust the warp core’s energy levels. We’ll have to start all over again,” Hemmer warned her.
“I can’t,” Uhura said as her control was slipping fast.
“You can, just focus on the task and I promise you, the reward will be that much sweeter,” he promised her.
Uhura took a shaky breath and summoned what small iota of concentration she had left and focussed on the task. She desperately worked the problem, when the computer chirped in delight as the problem solved, relief washed through her.
“See, not too hard at all,” Hemmer purred, he nuzzled that sweet spot on her neck. His hand moved to her clit, the moan tore from her throat as the first orgasm tore through Uhura like lightning.
She barely had time to recover as Hemmer thrust within her, he rode her hard and fast. He coaxed another orgasm out of her, but this one didn’t end, as intense waves of euphoric pleasure washed through her, over her again and again. She was so far gone she barely registered Hemmer’s shout as he came.
But when she felt his long spurts of cum fill her. She gave out a ragged cry, revelling in how he hard he gripped her hips as he ground against her. He poured himself into her for what felt like a good minute. She loved this moment the most, how possessive he was as he didn't let her go until he regained some of his composure.
“Good girl,” he whispered huskily, he pressed another kiss to her neck. Uhura smiled, she turned her head to look at him. She felt the heat simmering between them, his grip on her hips hadn’t lessened at all. He kept their bodies locked, letting her know he was still in charge, it was hot to her even after coming. She was still ready for more, as he was addictive.
“I don’t think I’ll be forgetting that anytime soon,” Uhuru said as she tried to catch her breath. Hemmer smiled as he leaned in, and they shared a passionate kiss.
“Who said it was over yet?” He murmured against her lips.

Living Sanctuary
Hemmer x fem!reader (can be read as romantic, however is more platonic with developing feelings) Words: 2.3K Summary: She never really learned anything about his home. Until one day she did Inspired by this post from @nichestartrekkie0-0 (If fanfics not your thing, just ignore this :)) so please chek out their art it's AMAZING
A drop of sweat ran down her forehead, down her temple, down her cheek and was wiped aside by her sleeve before it could fall to the floor.
Her arms felt heavy, but she didn't dare move them for fear that the objects in them would fall to the ground and shatter. Something she could not afford, after all, Hemmer needed these things. At least she was certain there was no harm in them.
The cooling system was offline and no matter how hard the engineers tried, it wasn't getting any better. In the end, it had turned out to be a fault in the system, which could be rectified by a simple reboot.
The problem: this reboot took several hours.
Hours in which the Enterprise had become uncomfortably warm, at least by her standards. She knew from Spock that he enjoyed the temperature and Uhura also had few problems with the change.
However, apart from the fact that everyone felt temperatures differently, she knew that there was one person who would not like it at all: Hemmer.
Based on what she had heard from some of the junior engineers, Hemmer was in an even worse mood than usual, and the temperature was so bad that M'Benga had sent him to his quarters to rest for fear that the Aenar would suffer heat exhaustion. Something that would be even more fatal for Hemmer's species than for her own. M'Benga had eventually interrupted her, lying panting on the sofa, and asked her to check on the Aenar. After all, they both knew how incredibly stubborn their friend could be.
She had agreed without hesitation. Hemmer might have his rough edges, some of them deadly sharp, but he had a heart of gold and she cared for him deeply.
He was a good friend on whom she had always been able to rely, so she would not let him down now. Even if he was still unaware of his luck.
With her elbow, she managed to press the button next to his door, alerting him that someone wanted to come in. For a few moments she stood in the corridor, people walking past her and looking at her strangely, wondering if he was even there. Perhaps he had thrown caution to the wind and gone back to work?
She immediately shook her head and dismissed the idea. Hemmer might be stubborn from time to time and not listen to advice, and when he did he did so reluctantly, but he was not self-destructive.
If Doctor M'Benga told him that the work posed a risk to his health, he would follow the doctor's instructions, grumpily, but he would do it.
Hemmer didn't give her much time to think about it. The doors opened and she quickly entered to avoid standing around stupidly in the corridor any longer. Inside it was only slightly less stiflingly hot than outside, but it wasn't any hotter either, which she saw as a plus.
She looked around searchingly, but couldn't spot the engineer. "Hemmer?" Carefully setting the items down on the sofa, she decided to take off her uniform jacket.
The top underneath would have to do, otherwise she would suffer from heat exhaustion. "Are you all right? Where are you?"
There was silence for a while and she began to wonder whether the door had opened by chance and he was actually somewhere else, but at that moment Hemmer's muffled voice rang out. "I'm fine."
She wheeled round to the bathroom where his voice had come from and only now did she realise the faint sound of falling water. Of course, she silently scolded herself. When the air was too hot, water was an excellent way to cool off.
With long strides, she walked to the door and stopped so that the opening sensor could not detect her. "May I come in?"
A grunt sounded and she frowned worriedly when an approving grumble came from Hemmer.
"M'Benga asked me to come round," she explained as she stepped into the bathroom. "Besides, I was worried about you, I mean, I'm almost dying in these temperatures, I can hardly imagine that it's pleasant for-" As soon as her gaze fell on Hemmer, she faltered and stopped, stunned by the sight before her.
Hemmer seemed to have noticed, as she fell silence surprised and huffed.
"I know I know, I look like a drowned beaver, or whatever you humans call it. But it's the only way to survive this heat."
She broke out of her stupor long enough to lift the corners of her mouth in slight amusement. "It's 'you look like a drowned rat'. And, that's not what caught me by surprise."
Even if this was of course partly to blame for her sudden hesitation, after all she had never seen her friend in such a position before. He sat on the floor of the shower, clever idea the tiles were also cold, and let the cool water run down his body. Consequently, his hair clung to his face in lengthy strands, while his antennae swayed in a dance-like manner, evading the droplets in a game known only to them. But as already mentioned, it wasn't that which had left her speechless.
It was the sight of Hemmer clad in nothing more than shorts, snugly embracing his well-defined muscles, stretching just halfway up his thighs, which intensified her warmth.
This alone would have been enough to induce a blush, but something else caught her off guard. The tattoos.
Dark blue, almost black, tattoos meandered in wavy patterns across his physique, from his chest to his shoulders to his arms, down to his legs and, she surmised, down to his back. They reminded her somewhat of the traditional tattoos of the Maori or the Polynesians, indigenous peoples of Earth, but at the same time they looked completely different, like two worlds at opposite ends of the galaxy.
Hemmer cleared his throat, apparently waiting for an answer, and she squatted down in front of him to be at eye level with him. It may not have done him much good, but she felt more comfortable not having to stare down at him. "Don't take offence, but I didn't expect to find my best friend naked in his shower."
"I'm not naked," he grumbled and she grinned slightly as he tugged at his trousers like a grumpy child. "Besides, I didn't realise you had tattoos." His antennae went up for a moment before returning to their dance and Hemmer frowned. "No? I thought you knew." She laughed softly as she watched drops of water drip down his cheekbones. "How was I supposed to know? It's not like you're regularly parading around half-naked in front of me."
"Do I hear disappointment?" His voice and his grin were provocative, teasing and elicited a laugh from her. "Definitely not." Still, she couldn't ignore the tingling in her stomach, even if she tried her best.
They were silent for a few moments before Hemmer sighed and gestured for her to come closer. "I can feel the heat radiating off you. What's the point of you falling over on me here?" He did his best to sound disinterested, but she knew him well enough to know that he was genuinely worried about her.
She hesitated for a moment, but decided that modesty really wasn't appropriate at this point, and kicked off her trousers and socks so that she was squatting in front of him in her top and panties. No problem, she thought to herself and shifted her weight onto her knees.
She crawled over to him and let out a low cry of shock as the cold water hit her heated skin. It felt like tiny needles were piercing her skin and she pulled back, however Hemmer didn't seem to let that happen.
He grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her towards him with such force that she bounced against him and only prevented him from headbutting her by resting her hands on his chest. Not that she would have done anything to him.
She would have been the one with the concussion.
The cold water beat down on her mercilessly. She squealed and wriggled on Hemmer's lap, only realising later that she had landed there, but he didn't allow her to escape.
"You're burning up," he murmured and pulled her a little closer to him so that her hot skin was pressed against his pleasantly cool skin. "So stop squirming or I'll tie you up."
"Kinky," she murmured as her body seemed to slowly acclimatise to the difference in temperature. "Keep it down," came the reply and she grinned softly, slowly relaxing. The water felt good.
Gradually, she felt the feeling of stifling warmth disappear and her glowing skin lowered to temperatures that seemed more bearable, judging by the fact that Hemmer was now relaxing beneath her as well, even leaning into her touch.
"Aren't I too warm for you?" He just shook his head before leaning it against the tiled wall behind him, a slight smile on his face. "It's acceptable. Besides, I know my skin is cool enough to give you relief." She snorted at his posturing, but made no move to free herself from her place on his lap.
"Actually, I came to help you with that." He chuckled softly. It was a sound that came from deep in his chest, where she was still resting her hands, deep and real, and she felt warmth spreading through her again, but this time a different kind of warmth.
"I'm used to getting used to this kind of heat. Have you ever been to California? It was just as bad." She nodded, giving in to exhaustion after a while and leaning her head against his shoulder. "You are indeed nice and cool."
Her hands wandered from his chest to his arms when something struck her and made her lift her head. "Wait, are your tattoos prominent?"
Her fingers danced over the patterns of his tattoos, eliciting a shudder from him that she didn't realise, and sure enough, she could tell that the tattoos weren't just ink poked under the skin, but actually stood out with slight bulges.
They were barely noticeable unless you were sitting half-naked on top of each other, though she guessed it was a lot easier for the heightened senses of the Aenar to detect.
"It would be strange any other way," Hemmer returned with amusement, placing a hand on hers and running it along his collarbone. "Considering we Aenar are blind." Heat rose to her face. She had actually forgotten for a moment that Hemmer himself was blind.
" They're beautiful," she murmured softly, fascinated as she continued to run her fingers tentatively over the patterns of his skin. "You are beautiful." Hemmer left it uncommented, but closed his eyes and his antennae followed her movements.
"Do they mean anything?" He nodded slightly and guided her hand to his upper right arm, where a ring wrapped around his bicep. "Every male Aenar gets a tattoo like this when he comes of age. It's a symbol that we're old enough to serve our people and contribute."
Next, he went to some lines that snaked down his neck to his shoulder blades. To reach them, she had to lean so close to him that his hot breath brushed her face. "These lines symbolise my connection to my family. Can you feel the corners where they end?" She breathed in agreement. "Each of those corners represents a member of my family." There were five in total.
Next, their hands travelled together to his thighs. "These tattoos symbolise the balance of our society, our harmony with nature. The Aenar must live in tune with their environment and learn to live with it to prevent the deadly cold from overtaking them. They humble us, in a good way, and remind us of our place in this world, this universe."
Finally, Hemmer brought her hand to his chest, where the lines formed an intricate pattern that she could not describe in words. "These represent my devotion to healing, to repairing. They are not mandatory among the Aenar, but this pattern represents our pacifist representations. They visualise my duty, my morals, my life."
He did not guide her hand further, but did not release it, so that her hands, covered by his, rested on his chest. Her gaze fell on his left forearm, which was the only part of his body, with the exception of his face, that was completely free.
"And what about here? Is there a reason why there are no tattoos here? Or is it some kind of cultural ban on having them there?" Hemmer shook his head, chuckling softly, and carefully clasped his hands with hers, causing her breath to hitch.
"It's not a cultural taboo to have tattoos there, quite the opposite. The tattoos there represent the family you have established. After the wedding, a band of blue colour is applied below the elbow, decorated with small ornaments. For each child born from this marriage, another band is added."
Fascinated, she looked at his arm and, releasing her left hand from his, ran it over his skin, where a marriage bond would probably be visible in the future. "And what if you get divorced? Are these tattoos reversible?"
"No." Hemmer took her hand in his again and traced invisible patterns on the back of her hand. "However, divorces are very, very rare for us. We choose our partners with great care, nothing less than perfect comes into question."
She slowly raised her eyes and released her hands to continue tracing the patterns on his skin. "So, has anyone caught your eye yet?"
A hint of a smile appeared on his lips and he carefully lifted his hand to brush a wet strand of hair that was stuck to her face behind her ear, where it remained against her cheek. "Maybe."

Kat's beloved WIPS | SECONDARY CONTEXT: The Alternative Reality What happened to Uhura and Hemmer during episode 7 of Strange New Worlds? A funny thing at the Atmos Customs Terminal: A crime was committed against them... So they committed it right back. Lt. Brin has reasons for not wanting to stay at the Atmos Terminal for too long at a time. A couple of reasons, in fact. One: it's the quadrant's very own shithole. Second: since she arrived into the 23rd century, she managed to make many enemies there, and there exclusively. But the ship is in a need of new emitter arrays for the shielding systems and the Atmos Customs Security Service happens to be in possession of some, and the Starfleet gave a go on an exchange of assets, and all this Nexa finds very unfortunate. They were a no-bullshit away team of four: herself and Chief Hemmer. Uhura, still on rotation with security. Another Redshirt. Naturally, it had to be an in and out thing. What neither of them expected to happen, is for the Enterprise to leave them stranded as it embarks on an emergency humanitarian mission along the borders of Federation space, at the appeal of one Dr. Aspen. And so, while the crew of the Enterprise struggle with their own complications, the away team are being counted on to carry out the task they were entrusted with: to acquire the emitter arrays, wait still and keep the cargo safe. The Atmos Customs Terminal is a no safe place, though, so things get a little complicated...

I'm realigning this separately for each crew.
The Enterprise (the Enterprise! Thr first Enterprise!)
James T. Kirk: Gryffindor
He's an old-school hero. He's adventurous in space exploration, his love life, and everything in-between--unless it conflicts with his duty to his ship. (See his feelings for Janice Rand that he never acted on, and hid impecibly unless some outside source made him go crazy.) He likes to beam down himself and get his uniform dirty (and ripped clean off). Daring, nerve and chivalry are Jim Kirk in a nutshell.
Spock: Ravenclaw
The only way he'd be anything else is if J.K. Rowling was writing, and kept to her old rule of "heroes in Gryffindor." Frak that. Spock's greatest strengths and conflicts are all mind related.
Bones McCoy: Ravenclaw
If Spock is the eccentric genius/cold logic Ravenclaw, Bones is the common sense/rule book kind. It'd be interesting to see two radically different types of Ravenclaws butt heads. (One reason I wish Hermione had shared Luna's House.)
Uhura: Ravenclaw
She's brilliant, intuitive, and crafty as hell. She's the most accomplished linguist in Starfleet, and she f8ghts by out-clevering villains. See her wrap Mirror-Sulu around her finger, and later in her granny years, troll a bunch of villains with a senior fan dance.
Sulu: Gryffindor
Spock called him "a swash-buckler at heart." And of all the supporting cast, he's the one who went on to captain his own ship.
Scotty: Hufflepuff
The miracle-worker of a handyman and everyone's best drinking buddy. Keeps the peace even when the Klingon insults his captain, but snaps when the Klingon goes on to insult Scotty's life's work (the Enterprise) and throws the first punch.
Chekov: Gryffindor
Wanted to throw the first punch when his Captain was insulted.
Janice Rand: Hufflepuff
Kirk's loyal Yeoman, but keeps her feelings buried under her duty. Shows impressive patience with Charlie X.
Christine Chappel: Ravenclaw
She's a sharp cookie.
Riley: Hufflepuff
Even when dangerously insane, he just wants to treat everyone to ice cream and sing Irish ditties.
Redshirts: Gryffindor
Gryffindor scarlet is fitting for the brave souls who beam down to planets full of exploding rocks and flower-bazookas.
Salt Vampire: Slytherin
Mastering shape-shifting just to get salt fits into "cunning folk use any means to achieve their ends."
Christopher Pike: Gryffindor
He knew his fate and chose to keep it, in order to save those cadets and Spock.
Una Chin-Riley: Slytherin
She cheats at times in order to accomplish her longterm goals. But she's an example of a heroic Slytherin.
La'an: Slytherin
Cold, almost reptillian focus on her duty, no matter the costs. Like Una, she proves Slytherin traits can be used for the greater good.
Hemmer: Hufflepuff
His one purpose is "to fix what is broken."
Ortegas: Gryffindor
She's mischievous and level-headed, and a hotshot pilot.
Joseph M'Benga: Slytherin
He goes to new lengths to save his daughter.
Lt. Ilia: Ravenclaw
A brilliant navigatior, able to reserve her feelings when pn duty, no matter how deep and painful.
Will Decker: Hufflepuff
Takes great pride in his work, but his loyalty to his lover wins out.
Saavik: Ravenclaw
Vulcan or not, it takes a lot of mental strength to watch your friend and maybe love-interest get axed in front of you, abd still keep a cool head.
David Marcus: Gryffindor
Like father like son, he went down fighting.
Valeris: Slytherin
If you know the spoiler you know why.
M'Ress: Gryffindor
This fireball furball is already a lion pretty much anyway.
Arex: Ravenclaw
Besides looking kind of like a plucked buzzard, he's got the intellect for Ravenclaw.
I open a discourse
What Hogwarts house are the Star Trek characters in, and why?

North Star
Pairing: Hemmer x Reader Fandom: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Words: 2.7K Warnings: Discussion of injuries and death, spoilers for "All those who wander" Summary: The North Star is the brightest star in the constellation of the Little Bear. It shows sailors the way and gives them the reassurance that they are on the right course. A/N: I have written this piece in anger and protest regarding his death. He is alive
You had been aware from the beginning that this could be a possibility. You had always known that one day you might get the notification from sickbay that something had gone wrong. You had known that life in Starfleet was fraught with danger and that the next day could always be the last. You had both been aware of the risks and still agreed that they were worth it. However, that didn't change the fact that your heart was now pounding in your throat and adrenaline was coursing through your system as you sprinted down the corridors.
It should have been a simple mission. Perhaps simple was an understatement, The team, consisting of most of the senior staff as well as Cadets Uhura, Chia and the newly promoted Lieutenant Duke, including your boyfriend, were to respond to the distress signal from the USS Peregrine and rush to the rescue. While not without danger, nothing had indicated anything worse. Hemmer had even been almost pleased when he was told that Valeo Beta V was an ice planet.
But now you were walking down the corridor, ignoring the stares of the other crew members, as if your life depended on it. Not even a minute before, you had received a message from Doctor M'Benga that made the blood run cold in your veins. It wasn't long, but it was enough. "Please report to the infirmary. Something has gone wrong on the mission. It's about Hemmer."
Your heart was pounding and you felt numb as you took one step in front of the other, unable to feel or perceive anything except your pounding heart and the horrible thoughts floating around in your head that seemed to get worse with each passing second. Slithering, you turned the corner and came to a breathless halt outside the doors of the infirmary, where Doctor M'Benga and the Captain seemed to be waiting. They were engaged in conversation, but fell instantly silent when M'Benga saw you.
"Where is he?" M'Benga approached you, his face contorted in sympathy, and your stomach turned. No, please don't. "Lieutenant. I want you to try-" "Where's Hemmer?!" Panic took over your body and you felt yourself begin to tremble, not even caring that you had interrupted your superior officer. "Is he hurt? Is he even alive?! Please, let him be alive, please-"
"Lieutenant, please calm down. Hemmer is alive." Pike had stepped forward and placed a hand on your shoulder reassuringly. "He's hurt, but he'll live." A sob of relief escaped you, which you immediately tried to stifle with your hand. Pike smiled sympathetically and gently stroked your shoulder before removing his hand. "However, we, or rather Doctor M'Benga, wanted to talk to you first before we let you see him. To prepare you, so to speak, for what to expect."
This idea didn't really appeal to you as all you wanted was to simply be with Hemmer, however you knew you couldn't avoid it and nodded slightly in agreement. "Please, follow me." The doors opened and M'Benga led you through the infirmary to his office and no matter how much you surreptitiously looked around for it, you couldn't spot Hemmer. In his office, M'Benga sat down in his chair and motioned for you to sit down as well, which you reluctantly did.
"How familiar were you with the mission?" Frustrated, you breathed in and out. All you wanted was to go to Hemmer. Was that too much to ask? Still, you answered dutifully. "A team was beamed down to Valeo Beta V to respond to the distress signal from the USS Peregrine. The crew did not respond to the calls, so the team was told to go down to check on them. As far as I know, the team consisted of Lieutenant Kirk, Captain Pike, Lieutenant Spock, Lieutenant Noonien Singh, Lieutenant Duke, Cadet Uhura and Cadet Chia, Nurse Chapel, you and Hemmer."
M'Benga nodded. "When we arrived at the planet and at the ship we found that the entire crew had been killed. Some were frozen to death, some ripped to shreds." He was silent for a moment. "It were the Gorn. There were two survivors, a girl and a stranger who could not make us understand his name. He was infected and carried Gorn eggs, which hatched and killed him in the process." You felt sick and felt like throwing up. "What do you know about the Gorn and their reproduction?" You had to swallow, not liking the direction this conversation was taking.
"Not much. They usually use other people as carriers, plant their eggs in them and wait for them to hatch, at which point the carrier of the eggs dies. Once a person carries the eggs inside them, it's irreversible, at least up to present day." M'Benga nodded again. "We have found that the poison that each Gorn has is the way to be infected with the eggs." He was silent for a moment and then looked at you. "Hemmer was hit by the poison to protect Cadet Uhura."
You had to pull yourself together not to let the horrified cry be heard as you slapped your hand over your mouth. "You said that he survived! That he was going to live! No one has ever survived anything like that," you sobbed, squeezing your eyes shut. Try as you might to convince yourself that Hemmer would never do such a thing, you knew better. No matter how grumpy and dismissive Hemmer always pretended to be, he had a soft core and a huge heart. And if it was Uhura who had grown very close to his heart in the last few months, even if he would never admit it, you knew he would not hesitate to throw himself between her and danger.
"Until Hemmer." M'Benga leaned forward and put his hand on yours in an attempt to reassure you. "Gorn can't stand cold, which is why we were able to use cold to slow down the acceleration process. And well, we still have the pattern buffer, huh?" Your gaze darted to the chair in his room where the transporter was installed. " Which means..." "We were able to find a cure in time. However, it was quite advanced, so he didn't come away entirely unscathed. We weren't able to reverse some of the scars." "But he's alive?"
While you had been told several times by now, you really wanted to be sure, lest you receive a gruesome revelation. M'Benga smiled gently. "Yes, he is alive. However, he is still resting." "Is he awake?" "Awake enough to complain about the blankets." A tearful laugh escaped you and you wiped the tears from your cheek.
Hemmer, being from Andoria, was often too warm on the ship, so he didn't need blankets. Unfortunately, Hemmer could not sleep without the feeling of the light weight of a blanket, testimony to his life in an environment where he had needed that, which is why you had given him a cooling blanket for his last birthing day. It felt like any other blanket, but it cooled the body instead of warming it. Hemmer hadn't slept with anything else since then.
"Can I talk to him?" M'Benga nodded his head slightly. "As long as you don't kill him." "No promises." He laughed slightly and shook his head, however his reply was serious. "Don't be too exuberant. He still needs rest, I don't even know if he might have gone back to sleep." You stood up. "I don't care about that. I ..." Embarrassed, you looked to the side. "I just need to see him to really know that ..." "... that he's okay," M'Benga finished your sentence, looking at you sympathetically. "I understand." He too rose. "Follow me."
No longer as upset as before, but still with your heart pounding, you followed the doctor to a partitioned off area with rapidly raised walls that created a small room of your own. "The captain ordered it. To give him enough privacy." Chapel stepped out of the room and gave you a tight, sympathetic smile before placing her hand on your shoulder and giving it a quick squeeze. "There's nothing wrong with him. However, I can't promise he's very talkative right now, let alone awake." "It's okay," you hastened to reply, your target now within reach. "I just need to see him." Chapel and M'Benga gave each other a knowing look and she and M'Benga left you, with the note to just call out if there was a problem.
For a moment you stood in front of the non-transparent, raised walls and tried to collect yourself before you stepped forward, pushed the door aside, closed it behind you and turned towards the room. It wasn't very big and quite sparsely furnished, but you didn't care. Your focus was on the large white bed on which, in a nest of blankets and pillows, Hemmer lay, apparently deep in sleep. You slapped your hand over your mouth in horror. "Oh God."
Hemmer looked paler than usual and his antennae hung in his face, which was not usual for him. His hair was messy and slightly filthy and his face and hands, which were lying on the blanket, were covered in small wounds and scrapes. Why they had not been treated you did not know, though you guessed that M'Benga had had bigger problems. What really caught your attention, and was probably the bigger problem, was the scar tissue that ran from his neck and throat up to the cheekbones of the right side of his face.
Like grey-dark purple veins, the scars stretched across his neck and jaw until they ran down his face and disappeared towards his cheekbone. His right hand also seemed to be affected, but not as badly as his neck, which is why you suspected that part of his jacket had protected him. However, the clothing did not seem to be completely protective, as a thick bandage wrapped around his middle.
Shocked and close to tears at the painful sight of the person you loved, you stood in the corner not knowing what to do. Slowly you approached and let your fingers ghost over his wounds without touching them and a quiet sob escaped you. "Oh Hemmer..." Tears ran down your face and dripped onto his face, so you turned, hoping to get your emotions under control.
"Nasty, isn't it? Mind you, M'Benga said it didn't get any prettier." At the sound of the voice you whirled around to see the Aenar turn his head in your direction, open his eyes slowly, not that it would make any difference, and smile slightly but pained. "Oh my god Hemer." Your sobs were lost in the room as you rushed towards him and wrapped your arms around him, only to let him go instantly as his groans of pain reached your ears. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry..." was all you could get out crying and gently put your hand to the uninjured side of his face.
"You're alive, oh my God you're fine." You ran your hand over and over again over his cheek, through his hair and gently pressed kiss after kiss over his face, your tears wetting not only your face but his as well. "Well, I wouldn't call it fine..." grumbled Hemmer, but interrupted himself when another sob escaped you. His gaze softened and he straightened, despite your tear-stained protests, to feel for your face with his uninjured hand. "Hey. It's all right. I'm alive, I'm safe, it's all good."
His voice was impossibly soft and loving, which brought you to tears even more before he sighed and gently pulled you against him into a hug. Another thing he would never admit, but Hemmer loved hugs more than anything. Sometimes you spent entire evenings just lying in each other's arms and enjoying the silence.
"I thought you were dead." Your voice was nothing more than a choked, hoarse whisper, however, you knew Hemmer had heard you because of the tightening of his grip around you. "When M'Benga contacted me and said something had gone wrong and it was about you... I thought I had lost you. I thought that when I entered the infirmary, I would see your body lying before me, ready for burial. If there had been a corpse left."
Hemmer gently pressed a kiss against your temple. "I am here. I'm alive. It's all right." Slowly the grief in you dried up and was replaced by anger that made you pull away from him so that he could sink back into his pillows with a pain-filled hiss.
"Damn it, Hemmer, nothing's okay. You almost died today! We almost lost you! I know you wanted to protect Uhura because you loved her, but did you think for a moment how we all might feel if something happened to you?! Spock, M'Benga, the captain? The guilt of those who were with you on the mission and couldn't have saved you? The guilt Uhura would have felt because you threw yourself in front of her as a living shield? Did you think about how horrible it would be for her to have to live with your death?! Maybe you haven't noticed Growler, but the little one cares about you and is fond of you too."
Hemmer started to say something, but you hadn't finished letting out your frustration and fear and panic of the last few minutes. "And what about me? Have you ever thought how I would have felt if you were suddenly gone?! Damn it, Hemmer, I love you! More than anything else in my life and more than I've ever loved anyone!!!" Your voice became quieter, taken over by sadness, and again tears came to your eyes. Against your scolding, you let your head fall against his shoulder and gently Hemmer put an arm around you as hot tears streamed down your face again. "Damn it, Hemmer. Do you really think I could live with myself? That I could just get over you and move on with my life?"
"You had a life before me." Hemmer's voice sounded strained and you could swear that his body was trembling too. "Maybe. But now I know how colourless it has been after all. All my life I've longed for the stars and you..." You straightened up and slowly let your finger run over his cheekbone. "You are my brightest star. My north star, my Polaris. My anchor, my safe haven and the fixed point of my existence that always accompanies me, never leaves me and always shows me the way home." Astonished and somewhat shocked, you noticed that tears were gathering in his eyes and gently you wiped them aside. "I would be lost without you, Hemmer."
"How can you still love me?" Hemmer looked at you in disbelief while tears actually ran down his cheeks. There were not as many as yours, but enough to alarm you. You had never seen Hemmer cry before. "I am disfigured and M'Benga does not know if I will ever be able to move as I did before. I may have to resign my commission from Starfleet." "Then I'll come with you." The words escaped you before you could think about them, yet you didn't regret them. After all, they were true. You'd been together for years and you were pretty sure you could never be with anyone else.
"I don't care if you are the chief engineer or retired. I don't care if you can move normally or if you are in a wheelchair. I don't care if you have scars or not, because you are beautiful and the scars are just a testament to what kind of person you are. A peaceful, thoughtful, self-sacrificing, compassionate and selfless person who puts their own well-being below that of others." You gently put your arms around him.
"I love you because you are you. Not because you have a high rank or are attractive, which however is valued. I love you because you are selfless, because you care for others, even if you sometimes have problems showing it. I love you because although you have a hard shell, your core is all the softer and your heart all the bigger. I love you."
Hemmer pulled you closer to him. "You are insane. Completely insane." You smiled slightly and rested your head on his shoulder. "That makes two of us." You didn't know what to expect, however, you were sure of one thing. Hemer was your North Star, your firm hold and no matter what would happen and where life would take you, you would get through it. Together.
