Liladrien Week 2024 | Day Six: School

Adrien has started to call neo-Françoise Dupont the ‘green school’, although this probably wouldn’t make much sense to anyone else.

After all, to specifically attribute such an adjective would usually mean that the place stands out for it. No one would call a Haussmann terrace in the middle of Paris the ‘limestone house’ and no one would describe a specific cow among a black-and-white pasture as the Holstein-Friesian cattle.

Neo-Françoise Dupont is surrounded by buildings just as frondescent, just as sustainable, just as solar punk. Ink-dark glass panels installed upon rooftops, slanted on both sides, to catch every last drop of UV light. Lively lavender and frog-green ivy climbing up brick façades, low buildings, and a community garden in each apartment park – appropriately named because with the rise of interest in human-centred, hands-on community hubs, each residential area in Paris is now built around children’s playgrounds.

Still, when Adrien bikes to school this morning, waving hello to neighbours and fellow students – bikes because there are no longer any needs for individual cars and he lives too close to the school to rely on the entirely electric mini buses – he pulls up to a Françoise Dupont that seems a cut above the rest of regenerated Paris.

Apple and tangerine trees planted in the courtyard bloom generous fruit in the height of spring, a warm breeze ruffles the verdant leaves. Colour-coded bins are clearly marked Déchets, Recyclage, and Compost. Stickered rainwater tanks decorate corners and crevices.

Members of the student council and volunteers are manning the morning breakfast program. Fresh juice, waffles, cereal, yoghurt, eggs, and bacon are divided in catering trays and sampled freely by hungry students bearing wooden plates and metal cutlery.

In Adrien’s new homeroom, manned by a newcomer to the school named Madame Beaumont, most of his classmates are already gathered and they cheer to see him.

“Morning, Adrien!” Kim bellows across the room. He’s wearing a recycled polyester and cotton-blend hoodie with thrifted jeans. Beside him, Max dons a tunic weaved from hemp linen.

“Morning!” Rose chirps.

“You’re almost late!” Alya teases.

“Hey, guys.” Adrien looks down at the front row where Marinette is sitting. Hair tied into pigtails with gingham ribbons, lids and lips tainted with cocoa-butter-based cosmetics. She beams, clearly waiting for him and demurely pats the seat beside her. Adrien drops his canvas satchel and blows a gentle kiss towards his girlfriend. Marinette’s cheeks darken even further, already adorably flushed, and although she trembles, she doesn’t panic. Adrien is so proud of her. Marinette is growing over her fears admirably, conquering past trauma bit by bit like a champion.

“Alright, class!” Madame Beaumont announces, clapping her hands together to rein some control over her raucous homeroom.

Nathaniel is doodling in a kraft paper sketchbook and Mylène is showing off her homemade bead jewellery to Juleka and Ivan. In the row behind them, Alya and Nino had leaned over to start talking to Adrien and Marinette about plans for the weekend. The Seine is crystal-clear and smells of salt and algae, perfect for swimming in. And afterwards, how about a picnic at the Jardin du Tuileries?

“Class!” Madame Beaumont repeats sharply. “Please – your attention, please!”

Voices settle down and rears are fully planted down on benches.

Madame Beaumont clears her throat before the classroom’s interactive whiteboard. Adrien sees the plans for today’s lessons floating there: agriculture lectures and an introspective analysis of Dead Poets Society.

“I’m very happy to announce that we’re going to have a new student join our class today,” Madame Beaumont says. “Her name is Iris Verdi and she hails all the way from Italy. This is her first time in France and she’s still getting a little used to the language. So, please give a very warm welcome and a friendly greeting to our new friend!”

Adrien claps along with the rest of the class as Madame Beaumont gestures for someone outside the classroom to step in. Adrien claps along with the rest of the class as an unusually tall girl saunters her way beside Madame Beaumont. Adrien stops clapping when the girl turns to face them with a smile that borders on a smirk, but no one else does.

The rest of the class continues clapping for this girl. She has long, nearly-yellow blonde hair twisted into a low chignon. She wears a red wool beret and matching blazer, a smart grey vest, a pleated black skirt, and polished leather boots. Her eyes are vixen-like and rimmed with black, her lips are pouty and glossy with the colour of ripe apricots.

“Bonjour, everyone!” she says in a sweet, melodic voice. Her nails are almond-shaped and painted the same colour as her lips. She has slung upon one shoulder a brown leather schoolbag. “It’s so nice to see you all.”

“Hi, Iris!” the class choruses.

Adrien looks behind him to see all of his friends beaming at Iris with nothing but geniality and sociable curiosity in their eyes. Adrien looks to his right to see Marinette nodding at Iris with warm welcome.

“As Madame Beaumont told you all,” Iris says in an accent that is different to the one she used when she came to their school as a new student last time. Less high-pitched, more sensible. With an undercurrent like trickling water. “This is my first time in Paris and French is a third language. Please forgive me if I make any errors.”

“Nonense!” Rose cries. “You sound fine.”

Everyone chants in agreement.

Iris’ eyes curve with her smile, her hands coming up to cup her mouth in faux overwhelm.

“Oh, you guys are so kind!” she coos. “I can already tell I’m going to have the time of my life here!”

“French is your third language?” Marinette asks. “What’s your second?”

“English,” Iris replies easily. “Although that’s only because I’ve spent half of my childhood growing up in California.”

“California?” Alya says, perking up as she always does whenever anyone makes the slightest mention of the U.S.

“Isn’t that where Hollywood is?” Nathaniel remarks.

“Yes!” Iris says. “Actually, I lived with my uncle just on the outskirts of LA where he owns a vineyard. It was a super cool place to grow up, because you get to meet the fanciest people and celebrities who come to tour.”

The class whispers their excitement to each other.

“How exotic!” Madame Beaumont says.

“If everyone’s willing,” Iris says, unclasping the magnetic flap of her bag. “I could show you all some pictures–”

“Excuse me,” Adrien says, speaking up. He feels as if he had been submerged in a dream-like trance where he was nothing but a helpless and doomed witness to pre-destined events. He listened to the inane conversation and if he himself lacked a mouth to speak with and a will to act with. Adrien snapped out of his stupor because Iris’ act of opening her bag reminded Adrien intensely of her opening her bag when she showed Adrien her faux-Fox Miraculous almost exactly one year ago. “But aren’t you Lila Rossi?”

hello ! i have always been very enamored by smooth collies, and always dream of owning one some day, but never directly interacted with any or with the breed community (im not a dog show/fancy person) but i do have a question about them, which probably applies to all collies, not just smooths. but i have noticed that when i see people post photos of their older collies, ages i would normally have considered more middle aged, they look REALLY old. like kind of clumpy or greasy looking fur, skin quality seems looser, and very very grey around the muzzle. they look like theyre roughly 12 by most breed standards, but then i find out theyre actually 8 or 9. are they a short lived breed or is that just a cosmetic thing and they dont actually act as worn down as they look? or am i maybe only seeing poorly bred dogs? just generally interested in your take on that!

Admittedly I don't have much experience with Smooths, but - Collies aren't a short-lived breed, but, imo, aren't long-lived, either. Collies super consistently hit 10-12 years, usually closer to 12, but I've heard of some hitting 14 or 15 (one of my friend's bitches made it to almost 15). That said, I know quite a few veteran Roughs (7+ years, mostly in the 7-11 year range), and only one of them acts his age (and, purportedly, had always acted like an old man). The rest have boundless energy, keep up with the younger dogs without any issue, and are still involved in showing and/or performance events.

HOWEVER I have noticed that some Collies grey very young - especially sables. I know a sable who is only 7 and has a fully white face - doesn't act a day over 3, but she definitely looks like a veteran.

Since I primarily interact with the show dog world, the veterans I see are in quite nice coat (well maintained, well groomed, and the dogs are kept intact), but I know what you mean. A lot of Smooth dogs especially seem to get kind of bulky, or maybe you just can't tell on the Roughs. But even the veteran Smooth that shows around here (a petite bitch) is energetic, moves easily, and I wouldn't have been able to tell she was a veteran unless I had been told.

So I guess I don't really know? I know what you're talking about from online photos, but that kind of ageing is something I haven't seen in-person, even from retired show dogs or well-bred pet dogs. 🤷‍♂️ But, again, I don't have any experience with Smooths, and I think all Smooth dogs look a little awkward because they tend to be bulky and the coat patterning is a lot more obvious on a Smooth which is interesting aesthetically.

Anyway I'm kind of waffling and don't have an answer, but I hope this kind of helps!

Worldbreaker Pt. 1

The rubble. The screams. The frantic hands digging through the mess above her buried broken lifeless body. The last stone moving away- seeing the white light shine onto her. A hand reaching out-

Mardea shot up, sweat covering her body. Reaching out to see the alarm clock, she had to bite down a yelp of pain.

“Not…again…” Her voice was tired and straining. Black Energy had marked her arms in the night, leaving burns on her skin and the sheets.

She stumbled into her bathroom, slamming the cold water handle on to fill the tub. Her feet sizzled on the chilled ivory tile, heat coming off her body in waves. She shouldn’t be this hot with just panties and a loose cotton tank top on, but this is one of many burdens of being Mardea Lin.

The water stung her tender burnt skin. Steam hissed from her body, distracting her from wanting to scream. Mardea hadn’t been severely burned by fire, but she imagined they were just as bad as her energy burns. Izzy’s the only one she ever felt the need to explain the difference to. His curiosity was always humorous to her.

The fact that the water was ice cold made the next part easier. Keeping thoughts in her mind to ground her to reality, Mardea submerged herself completely in the tub.

Green wisps flowed out from her palms. Interacting with the water, they went to work cooling her down and resolving her burns. A waterlogged scream escaped her throat, the sensory overload and pain being overwhelming. The burnt skin ripped itself off, attaching to the energy swirling around it. New unblemished skin replaced it quickly- unnatural if one didn’t have a medic-related quirk.

It felt like hours, but Mardea was done in minutes. The water was grey and heavily clouded when she sat back up, now shivering from the cold. Her stomach churned, and without a moment to react, she vomited into the already dirty water.

“…fuck…” her voice was a quaky whisper. She couldn’t keep going on like this.

The push and pull of energy forces from within herself danced with the outside ones. It was as if something out there wanted her to lose control, wanted Code Black to become the new normal.

The water-vomit mixture spiraled down the drain. Mardea waited until the tub was empty before fighting for strength to rinse herself off with the shower.

Morning couldn’t come soon enough.

“But consider the reverse!” Kaminari shoved a spoonful of cereal in his mouth, “If you had a human head and a bird body, all the villains would be too scared to fight and you could round ‘em up easy!”

“Easily,” Tokoyami corrected, pulling his hoodie as he stood up to leave, “And that is utterly ridiculous.”

Sero set his coffee down, “Does that mean if Hawks was reversed he’d have a bird body and human arms on his back?!”

“Holy. Shit. Dude.” Kaminari looked like he had an epiphany, “That would be…terrifying. I love it.”

Ashido slammed her hands flat on the table, “KIRI WOULD BE A ROCK THAT TURNS INTO A BALL OF FLESH!”

“Noooooo,” Kirishima groaned, leaning back with his hands on his face, “I was already a ball of flesh in the hero test! Unpleasant, 0 out of 10 do not recommend.”

Sero giggled, “Guys, guys listen… Bakugo… Is an explosion that throws out humans.”

An eruption of laughter consumed the living room of the dorms. The noise echoed into the hallway leading to the stairs.

“Wait, wait, wait,” Kirishima wiped a tear from his eye, “Does, ehehehe, does that mean that mean that he’s a continuous explosion or like, hah, one out of every 5 explosions is Bakugo randomly spurting out humans to attack villains.”

The laughter quieted, giving the group time to think, then Ashido spoke, “Can you imagine if the latter was true? Like, if you’re a villain using C4 to break into a bank then suddenly ‘I AM A VERY ANGRY EXPLOSION HAVE SOME HUMANS TO THE FACE!’ Bruh, I’d shit my pants.”

“What about the former?” A sudden appearance of Lin behind Kaminari made him jump and spill his cereal. “If he’s a continuous explosion he’d have to be put in a container to function as a ‘human’ in society. Imagine shoving Boom-boy into a reinforced Smucker’s jam jar.”

The laughter resumed. Kirishima looked up to ask Lin a question, “Hey, what if- wait. Lin you’re glowing.”

A brief panic, “Wh- no I’m not.” She looked herself over, “I’m not outputting any en-“

“No! Your skin is radiant,” A cheeky smile, “Did you do a new skincare routine from YouTube?”

A pause, “…Yes…that’s what I did.”

Ashido’s eyes sparkled, “DEAAAAAA you gotta show me!”

“Maybe later, after you bring your grade to a B.” She winked, “Anyway, I’m hungry, see ya later.” Lin meandered over to the kitchen, where Uraraka was making what smelled like waffles.

“… aaaand voila!” Uraraka flailed her arms in a dramatic manner, “A Together Breakfast!” The platter was filled with waffles topped with syrup, whipped cream, popcorn, and strawberries.

“Wow!” Midoriya’s stomach rumbled, “This looks great! Thank you!”

She giggled, “I made enough for everyone so dig in!” She gestured to those surrounding the counter. “Let our Saturday breakfast tradition begin!”

Lin leaned on Todoroki’s shoulder, the sudden contact startling him, “It’s just me, don’t worry.”

“Hello, love,” He tilted his head to lean on hers, “Sleepy?”

“Sore…”

“Training yesterday was that rough?”

“…Yes.” She straightened. Her silent body language purposely telling him that she didn’t wanna talk about it in front of the others. “My whole body feels vulnerable and tender. Like one touch will bruise for days.”

“Take it easy today, then,” He smiled, “Eat something to regain your strength.” A soft kiss to her head, reminding her that they can talk privately later.

“Hey Frick and Frack, save the PDA for when we’re not eating,” Bakugo sat on the counter, munching on toast with tomato and cheese slices on top. “You’re gonna make me puke.”

“Your taste in breakfast food will make me puke,” Midoriya stuck out his tongue.

“Says fucking you. Who eats shitty popcorn for breakfast?”

“It’s not popcorn, it’s pepcorn!” Uraraka tossed a kernel at the blonde, “Popcorn with a pep!”

Bakugo scowled, staring the group down. He swiped the kernel away from him, “You’re not original, this is all from YouTube.”

“Stop being such a fucking killjoy,” Jirou slammed her glass of juice down on the counter. “We get it, your aesthetic is to hate everything and think you’re the best. Don’t you get tired of having your head so far up your own ass? Huh?”

“I’m done,” Lin backed away and turned towards the hallway. “It’s too early for arguing.”

Yaoyorozu stood up, “Mardea, don’t go! We were gonna go out today! The Saturday Flea Market is up in the plaza across town!”

Fuck I forgot “Yeah, right…. Lemme put on proper ‘going out’ clothes.” A snap and she was gone in a green flash.

“Isn’t this fun! Nice to stretch our legs on a sunny day off.” Momo did a little spin, flowing out the bottom of her sunflower sundress.

Tsuyu joined the twirling, though her green romper left little to flow out. “Ribbit, it’s the perfect temperature today. I bet the pools will be packed.”

“Whaddaya think, ‘Dea?” Mina, clad in her pastel blue crop top and matching shorts, “Should we try swimming today or just mingle in the market?”

Mardea thought a moment, “Market wandering sounds good for now. Plus I didn’t bring a swimsuit- I doubt jean overalls would fair well in a pool.”

“Hmm, fair point.” Mina skipped ahead, stopping at a sunglasses stall. The sun reflected off them, making the products glitter and look more enticing.

Mardea glanced around the crowd. Mina was at that stall, whereas Tsuyu and Momo had been lost to the growing population of the market. The tips of her hair shifted to magenta. Her eyes scanned the scenery. Where were their energy signatures?

“Nice trick,” Mardea froze at the unfamiliar voice behind her, magenta instantly switching to lilac, “Color shifting is good for quick blending into crowds, though I feel that this little cosmetic show is a front for your quirk.”

It was a feminine sounding voice- maybe an older woman who smoked on occasion?

“I can feel your thoughts from back here, pumpkin.” A warm hand gripped her right shoulder, “You don’t have to turn around, I know who you are, Mardea. Don’t you think it’s strange that I snuck up on you with your magenta setting on?”

The lilac grew.

“You don’t need to be afraid. I want to help you. There’s a lot of energy in this world, you know. How would it be to not feel like it’ll crush you at any moment? What if you could control it? Not your definition of control- you still let that Code Black sit alone, festering. What if you could harness it?”

“Hey ‘Dea?” Mina’s voice called out, “We got lunch! Where ya at?”

“I will find you again,” The hand left, “Be wary, Mardea. You’re not the only one who knows energy.”

Momo came through the people, “Guys! She’s over here!” She turned, smiling, “Where have you- oh my god are you okay? You’re purple-y.”

Mardea looked up, eyes matching her hair, “We need to leave. Now.”

“Okay yeah. Yeah.” Momo took her twin’s hand, “You’re okay now. We’re here.” Mina and Tsuyu emerged, confused at the color shift. Momo pointed at them, “We’re leaving. Now. Back to UA.”

“You’re sure it was a woman?” Aizawa sat across from Lin in his office.

Lin shrugged, “That what she sounded like. She snuck up on me, didn’t let me turn around.” She pulled her shirt collar over to expose her shoulder, “She bruised me when she grabbed me.”

Aizawa raised an eyebrow, “How did she do that?”

“I DON’T KNOW!” Lin’s stress boiled over, red and lilac strands forming in her hair, “I don’t know who she is all I know is I didn’t sense her and she said I wasn’t the only one who knew energy and that she’s gonna find me again and I don’t know how to not let that happen because if I cant find her then no one can find her probably like how-” A gasp of air, hair returning to normal, as Aizawa grabbed her shoulders, kneeling in front of her.

“You need to calm down.” His voice was calm. “You didn’t do anything wrong. I’m not going to tell you to not worry, because I know you will anyway. All the teachers will be on the lookout for suspicious women around campus. I’ll let the Pro-Heroes know that this happened and see if they can snoop out anything. Okay?”

“Okay…” She leaned forward, hugging him with tears in her eyes, “Thank you…”

A smile, “It’s okay.”

A Joyful Seoul: A Happy Place, Part Two: Myeong-dong Nights

When we set foot in the Myeong-dong Night Market grounds for the first time, we were like Armstrong and Aldrin of Apollo 11 on the Moon — bewitched and yet ecstatic to what we have seen before us. And when we left the night market on our final night, we were wearing double smiles in our faces.

Smile Number One. Myeong-dong Night Market is a shopping wonderland for the bonafide shopaholics and those who have an itch for shopping. The night market, like any night markets in Seoul, has its main focus or offerings, and that is cosmetics. From familiar brands like Etude House to The Face Shop and Skinfood; from the not-so-familiar brands like Tony Moly to Missha, this night market practically has every Korean cosmetic brand available. Myeong-dong Night Market is a cosmetic buffet for the famished cosmetologist.

As for me, I was amazed by the towering sights of vertical and oddly shaped neon lights and signages of cosmetic brands vying attention of every single soul in the night market. Unfortunately for me, it’s the least of the shopping territory worth exploring.

And if cosmetic shopping is not your cup of tea, like I do, there are also some interesting and quirky finds around the market, such as collectible toys, clothing and few electronic shops. There were also local and international brands of footwear; and locally-made trendy backpacks in different shapes and sizes that are truly a Korean fashion statement.

Smile Number Two. On our first night in the market, we treated ourselves a Korean dinner of chicken galbi at the Yoogane Chicken Galbi Restaurant.

At the table: Yoogane’s famous Dak Galbi or marinated chicken galbi — consist of marinated chicken in Korean spices, sweet chili paste, cabbage, onion leeks and rice cake.

Dak Galbi’s add-ons can be rice or noodles.

Yoogane’s unlimited fresh cold salad bar consisting the staple kimchi.

You can’t call a night market a “night market” without the street food. Aside from regular restaurants, the street food is the lifeblood of every true night market there is. It’s a place for people to unwind after a day’s work or to casually commune with peers and families. And as for us, every night after our day’s tour in and out of Seoul, we make sure to stop by at Myeong-dong Night Market to explore its street food fare.

Grilled sausage and rice skewers.

Deep-fried odeng-wrapped hot bar skewers stuffed with rice cake, seaweed, cheese, squid, shrimps, hotdogs and other varieties.

Bacon-wrapped steam sausage skewers.

On the foreground, eomuk guk or fish cake soup and tteokbokki or spicy rice cake.

Ttteokbokki or spicy rice cake.

Ttteokbokki with odeng-wrapped hot bar drenched in ketchup.

On the foreground, sausages and french fries-coated hotdog skewers.

Chicken barbeque skewers.

Fried veggie mandu or Korean dumplings.

Fried sausage and rice cake skewers.

And if you have been binge eating the whole night through with fried foods, fret not and take a break. The night market also offers sweet-savory desserts to keep your energy high.

There’s waffle ice cream.

Egg Buns to name a few.

And if your type is indoor desserts and cafés, there’s a handful to try, like the Hello Kitty Café. Tucked in the heart of Myeong-dong Night Market is the not-so-hard-to-find Hello Kitty Café — the obligatory stop of all the obligatory stops I have to submit.

Like a cat, you need to “crawl” a narrow stair (with narrow stair steps) that lead up to the second floor where the café is.

Once inside, you’ll be surprised how wide and spacious the floor area of the café. Majority of the space in the main dining area is occupied by tables and chairs and a lavish nook for big groups for private conversations.

The remaining floor area is occupied by Hello Kitty Café merchandise on display, from coffee cups and mugs to stuff toys and stationeries and school supplies are all for sale.

Whilst waiting for our companions, we ordered a cup of hot choco for her and cookies and cream for me, paired it with a toasted sandwich to cap off our night.

To sum up our trip in Seoul, South Korea, I learned a lot from this country. One of them is for being patriotic — love (or support) your own. From locally manufactured cars to everyday carry things and keeping traditions alive to preserving cultural and historical landmarks and places, South Koreans wholeheartedly value and give high regards to their country’s intangible wealth and disciplined people.

The important lesson South Korea can impart to an individual or to a country, like the Philippines, is its past, present, and maybe the future, on how it became the South Korea today — progressive yet it’s identity is well-intact.

Hello again! It’s been a few days! Let me say, a LOT has happened the past few days. Stay tuned for a few blog posts about my adventures since coming to SEOUL!! So Sunday morning I got all packed up my cousin Dal-ah and I went out for brunch on our way from Incheon to Seoul. We both had a variation of a European style breakfast. Mine was the waffle option with eggs, bacon and (amazing) sausage, croissant-like waffles, french fries, whipped cream, and salad (???) And I ate everything on my plate except the onion. It was so good lol. Also Dal-ah got us americanos, which was actually my first americano! Wee! While eating, I was talking with Dal-ah and found out that the drama Doctor Stranger was filmed at her hospital and that she met Lee Jong Suk and Park Hae Jin 😆 I freaked out a little bit lol. Then we headed for Seoul. Apparently the cherry blossoms had only bloomed in the south so far, so that was out for the day, which I didn’t mind so much, I just didn’t want to miss them! During the drive, we listened to B1A4 because I had just been telling Dal-ah how much I like them. Then we picked up her friend Kwangja whom she had been telling me about. He’s actually famous on social media. And recently also did commercials for Lotteria. So there’s that lol. I was really shy at first, I didn’t say much in the car ride after that lolll. But he was really nice so as time went on I got more comfortable. We got to Itaewon and walked around for a while, going into different fancy stores that I would have never gone into if I were by myself, like perfume stores and over-priced clothes. Just being in the stores made me feel like I was gonna break something and owe hundreds of dollars. Then we we went to get something yummy. We ended up at a chocolate store and got some iced chocolate drink? I guess you could call it a chocolate shake, but it was pretty fancy, and very delicious, though I was still full from brunch! So I couldn’t finish it... Kwangja and I talked about social media, and fans and video views and it was pretty great talking to someone who knows about that stuff! 😊 Next we went to the LINE store which was amazing. SO MANY CUTE THINGS. We walked around, took pictures, and it was super fun. I didn’t get anything myself though because I wanted to save money lol. After that we headed out to find the restaurant we were going to. It was called My Sky and owned by Hong Seok Chun, a famous Korean actor. It was kinda exclusive lol. We took a teeny tiny elevator that barely fit the three of us up, and went into the dining room. First off, the interior was gorgeous. The view was also gorgeous. And also, Hong Seok Chun was there. And also JoKwon was there LOLLL. I was like oh my goshhhhhhh. And then didn’t look at him for the rest of the time cuz I didn’t wanna be a creep 😂 I was taking a lot of pictures out the window, and then a waiter came up and asked what app I was using lol. It is a really good app for pictures though. Pro HDR X 👌🏻 I still didn’t feel very hungry, probably just from excitement so i didn’t know what I wanted to eat. But we ordered a quinoa salad and pizza and a thing with corn chips and beef and it was so good that I ended up eating quite a bit lol. We interrupted our meal and went up to the rooftop to see the view and take some pictures before it got dark. You could see Namsan tower, and the view was just beautiful. Hong Seok Chun came up and was talking to us for a bit and we took a picture together. Then we came back down and finished eating, and got some drinks. I tried a caramel macchiato (I swear if I didn’t work at Starbucks I would have never ordered one lol) and it was really really good. The top if it was sweet, and the drink itself was just right. We sat and talked for a bit, and Dal-ah gave us each a handkerchief that she bought at the LINE store ❤️ By now I became very fond of these two people with me ☺️ I think being with them kind of made me feel like I was the baby sister again, being taken care of and bought dinner. And without realizing it I had been acting like my silly little sister baby self lol. It was familiar and comfortable. I’m really grateful for them looking after me for the day. It was a reminder that I’m really not alone here. God is good. Anyway, we finished up, and I used the restroom which was GORGEOUS. The nicest restroom I have ever seen lol, not even kidding. Though I didn’t have my phone with me so I couldn’t take pictures. Then went up to the roof one more time to take pictures and again, the view was just the best. Namsan tower was all lit up, and the city lights were gorgeous. Then we started heading back to where our car was parked. I didn’t bring my jacket so by now it was pretty chilly, but I survived lol. We stopped in at LUSH cosmetics for a few minutes and then continued on our way. I was telling stupid jokes, and stopping to take pictures every once in a while. Then we were back in the car, and off to my goshiwon/hostel!! weeee! We got there and Kwangja and I took care of my bags while Dal-ah went to park. Buuuut guess what? There was no elevator 😂 We had to lug my two large, heavy suitcases and two other bags up the stairs, to the 4th floor. We were ridiculous lol but we did it. Getting them back down is gonna be another whole issue, but I’ll think about that a few weeks from now 😂 Dal-ah came and talked to the desk woman for me, and helped explain things and how things worked, paid the rest for my room, and got everything settled. Then she and Kwangja were off, and it was just me. I sat in my room looking around. It’s the tiniest room I’ve ever been in lol. I can’t open my suitcase all the way unless it’s on my bed. But it will suit me nicely. It has a shower, a fridge, desk, a tv, a window and some cupboards. And bonus points for having everything within arm’s reach haha. Though the bathroom is down the hall, and the kitchen is down a floor. I went to sleep pretty soon after I got here, because I had my first Korean class in the morning, plus, I was just super tired after a long exciting day. So I slept, but woke up again at 3:00am. I’ll sleep through the night here eventually lol. But fell back asleep, and woke up again. My first day waking up in Seoul. Ready for whatever adventures would occur. KNOW Better Foods has been one of my favorites for a while now.

Their bakery type items like breads, muffins, donuts, & waffles are KILLER yum and made all-natural, minimal ingredients, non-GMO, grain-free and great tasting alternative to traditional grain-based bread that is gluten, wheat, dairy, peanut, soy, yeast, & preservative free!

I recently got to try their pasta, cookies, & syrup. Their pasta is high in protein and made with one ingredient —-> Chickpeas!!

I put together a chicken noodle soup in my Instant Pot (obsessed with this thing) yesterday and made the noodles on the side to add in after the soup cooked. Perfect combo!!

Since I only have two more days after this day left in wishlist week, I’m going to get creative. I could be boring and just list items I want from different brands, but let’s make this harder for me. If I could only get one item from some various indie brands, what would it be? Let’s see!!

Twisted Wonderland Perfumery: Custom Scent Creation!

Yes, that’s right! Twisted Wonderland allows you to create your own scent. I would choose a perfume oil, and while the list of notes is super dupe long, I think I would go for a blend of: Strawberry Rhubarb, Pink Berry and Tonka Bean, and Vanilla Bourbon. To me, that sounds like a wonderful fruity summer scent- and only $14.50!

Deconstructing Eden: Persephone

This has got to be my favorite DE fragrance ever, and I only have a small 2.5ml spray bottle that’s about 2/3 gone. I need this in my life, and I’m going to order it again… some day. I would most likely get the 15ml bottle (as scents do change over time) for $18.

Sixteen92: Paper Moon

As lame as it sounds, I’d most likely get the cheap ($4.50) sample vial of this scent. I’ve never actually purchased Sixteen92 fragrances due to their price, but Paper Moon, with notes of vanilla musk, benzoin, oakmoss, ivy, peach blossom, and rose, sounds very intriguing.

Shiro Cosmetics: You’re Just as Sane as I Am

I was totally going to cheat on this one and say I’d order the whole Marauders, Mugwumps, and Muggles collection. Then I decided that was, in fact, cheating, and made myself choose one single product. I have a severe Luna Lovegood obsession- did I say that I once was Luna for Halloween, complete with her gargle-spotting glasses, hand-beaded dirigible earrings, and an upside down quibbler? And that I sewed- and painted- her skirt myself? I am a true Ravenclaw, but a bit. and this shadow now only would show my Ravenclaw (and Luna!) pride, but it would look beautiful on my fair skin, too. So much unf. And only $6.50!

Notoriously Morbid: Taro Mystic Matte

If I could only order one NM product, it would be their Mystic Matte in Tarot. It looks like such a perfect dusty mauve color for my skin- not too purple, but not too brown. I’ve been lusting after this since I started getting Notoriously Morbid’s Vanishing Cabinet. While I’d want to support the indie business, I’d most likely get the small size for $4.50 instead of the larger one for $12.

Epically Epic Soap Co: Custom Scented Roll-On Perfume

I know- I love custom fragrances! I’d probably ask for a blend of black currant tea (my favorite fruit) and Vanilla Vetiver. I don’t know. I’d want to go visit her and smell everything and create a custom blend myself. Because that doesn’t sound weird at all. Like Twisted Wonderland’s Create-a-Scent, this won’t sent me back too much- only $15!

Darling Girl Cosmetics: Mermaid Beach Babe Eye Shadow – Ghoul School

Why this one? For a few reasons. One, mermaids. Two, Monster High (which, while I do not keep up with, has sentimental value because I’d watch it with my sisters). Three, it’s a totally unique blue that I don’t have and can think of so many fun summer looks to feature. Did you know a full-size Darling Girl shadow is only $3.50? Now you do.

Fyrinnae Cosmetics: Powder Blush in Seduce

Lilac/mauve blushes are my next “thing.” I can just tell that when fall/autumn hits, I’ll be all over these muted, cool-toned blushes (I mean, I totally would be now, too). The full-size version of Fyrinnae blushes are $10, but I’d probably start with a small sample for $1.75 to try out the color.

Hello Waffle: Furry Godmewther

This loose eyeshadow is a “blurple” (read: actual violet) with aqua and pink shift/shimmers. Not only is this a beautiful color, but the inspiration is obviously a mix of cats and fairy godmothers. You know, two of the most fantastical things ever. A full-size loose shadow only sets you back $7.30, too. Not bad.

None of the other indie brands I know of have been speaking to me recently, but I think that’s quite a few brands I’ve gone over! If I were to buy all of these (and, somehow, didn’t have to pay shipping… ugh), all of these items (in their chosen size) would cost about $75.55 together. Maybe when I do Indie Week? 🙂

Hello Waffle: The Forgottens

Today I’ve got the second and final part of my Hello Waffle purchase from Black Friday! I’m a huge sucker for grab bags (thought this is the first I’ve gotten my hands on) so when Christine announced that she would be offering mystery packs of colors that hadn’t made it to final production for one reason or another, I knew I had to get one.

The Forgotten colors were split into three different packs to avoid overlaps, and the only hints Christine gave were that two of the packs were warmer/rosier colors, while the third had cooler tones- otherwise it was a total mystery! I opted for pack #1, one of the warmer sets.

Swatches & Review under the cut!

Photos were taken in partly cloudy sunlight that wouldn’t make up it’s mind. Swatches are shown over Pixie Epoxie and WnW Fergie Primer. Colors descriptions for this set are my own, as there weren’t any official ones because, y’know, surprises!

#1: Deep blue with turquoise shimmer and magenta sparks.

I’m a huge sucker for dark blues, so I was really happy to see this color in my pack! It’s a little patchy even over a sticky base, and is reminiscent of Savior of Sailors. I LOVE the magenta sparkles, they’re such a unique touch! My favorite use for this kinds of blues is to buff them into my outer V, and since this one is a kind of weird blackened/ashey blurple over just primer, I don’t think I’ll be able to use it that way, but I’m looking forward to getting creative with it!

#2: Dusty plum taupe with a warm shimmer.

At first glance this one reminded me of Etherial Voice, but when you put them side by side I don’t think they’re very much a like. I’m not entirely sure how to describe this collor- it’s purple, it’s plummy, it’s taupe, but it’s also brown. I don’t know man. I think it’s very subtle and pretty, and might pair well with Shiro’s Yzma’s Essence of Llama.

#3: Soft rose-gold with a noticeable gold shimmer.

It wouldn’t be a Hello Waffle collection without a gorgeous rose gold! The lighting in the pictures make the base look a smidge more purple-leaning than it actually is. #3 is a classic, soft rose-gold; it’s almost ethereal and makes me think of warm fuzzy feelings.

#4: Metallic steel-blue.

This is a color that is almost completely unique to my collection- I think the only thing I have that’s similar is in a cheap LA Colors Pallet. I’m actually really excited to have #4 on my hands, because I loved the steel-blues from that pallet but didn’t care for the color pay-off or formula. I'll have to find a darker version of this color to pair it with for a nice smokey eye! Literally a combination that I’ve dreamed of but never actually gotten around to.

#5: Rich shimmery lavender.

This color reminds me so much of Of The Wildland! It’s not quite as bright and a little more blue-leaning, but the resemblance is definitely there. The payoff over just primer was especially bad over for this color, but it’s stunning over PE (and that’s honestly they only way I’d plan to use it, so SHRUG.) This color is gorgeous and fun, and even thought it’s not a flashing IN YOUR FACE purple I’m kind of intimidated by it because I’m a total baby about colors.

#6: Softest petal pink with pale gold sparks.

So, I’m not really a pink person. Like at all. But I really, really like this color. I wore it to work on Christmas Eve because I wanted a little bit of sparkle and was feeling a little playful (pale pink instead of peach? I’m such a risk taker) and was actually totally bummed because doesn’t look at pink on my eyelids as it did in my swatches! I think it’s just the combination of the soft gold sparkles and my eyelid being a much smaller space than my wrists, but it pulled pretty peachy. But now I’m apparently in love with pale pink and need to find the perfect mid-pink to pair #6 with to try and bring out that pink! Pink pink pink.

This color is so soft and delicate and UGH I just love it.

I love this set, and I couldn’t ask for a better first experience with a mystery grab-bag! These are all pretty sheer & patchy over just primer, which is fine because they’re all colors I would use over a sticky base anyways. I’m just so overjoyed that I was lucky enough to get a pack where just about everything will work for me in some way- I was expecting to get some duds that I wouldn’t really like, and honestly I don’t think I really did!

10/10 and now I’m hooked on grab-bags, save me from myself.
