Hiraeth part 5
A/n: I’m in college leave me and my inactivity and my lack of creativity alone ;-;
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The trial went smoothly, all things considered.
Lin’s former adopted parents gave up custody, bringing in their biological children in as witnesses to say Mardea had been an awful child to raise. Cross examination revealed that the kids were told to lie so that they wouldn’t get punished. The judge ruled that the children go into emergency custody with their grandparents while an investigation is conducted on Mr. and Mrs. Lin’s abusive patterns. Mrs. Midoriya got custody of Mardea, much to their delight.
The sunlight blinded Mardea’s eyes as the doors opened upon cessation of the trial. What blinded her further were the flashes of the cameras from the journalists.
“Gen! Tell us about your home life!”
“Miss Gen is the adoption system flawed?”
“Gen the Energy Hero has been thrown out of her home! What message does that send to her capabilities as a budding new hero?”
All Might and Aizawa stepped in front of Lin, ushering her, Mrs. Midoriya, and the boys through the crowd. Lin kept her head down and her hand in Todoroki’s.
“We’ll get through them. Don’t let them get to you.” His voice was soft but reached her ears amongst the crowd.
She just nodded in response, squeezing his hand three times.
All Might opened the door to the car, shuffling in the group, “Let’s get outta here!”
---
Todoroki, Lin, Midoriya, and Bakugo crowded in Lin’s room. All Might, Aizawa, and Mrs. Midoriya were talking in the main room about legal parameters now that Lin was in her custody.
The room itself was still largely undecorated. Lin didn’t have it in her to personalize it when school was close to starting. She’d have to pack it all up anyway. Izzy wanted to take her shopping to get new things, though, since her former parents had destroyed or sold the things left at the house.
“It’s funny, I’ve always thought you were like a sister to me, ahaha,” Izzy tried to break the awkward silence. It helped pierce the thoughts spiraling in her head.
Mardea gave a small smile as she leaned on Shoto. “I’ve always thought of you as a brother, too, Izzy.”
The couple was sat on her bed. Izuku was on the floor and Katsuki sat on the chair by her desk.
“You know…” Katsuki punched his fists together, leaning forward with an antagonizing grin, “If they ever try to come-“
“No violence, Katsuki.” Mardea curled up on her bed, “I don’t wish them harm.”
“But they-“
“No.” And that was the final word on it.
Katsuki rocked back in the chair, “So what do you wanna do now?”
Mardea thought a moment, sitting back up and slouching over, head in her hands. “Honestly, I just wanna go back to UA. I wanna be with the class and start applying more hero lessons.”
“It would get your mind off of this… ordeal.” Shoto placed his hand on her back, gently tracing invisible patterns.
“You can say ‘trauma’ because that’s what it is,” Mardea closed her eyes, attempting to prevent stray tears from flowing out. “That’s two families who didn’t want me.”
“We want you, Mardea,” Izuku sat up, trying his best to console her. He leaned forward, placing his arms and head on the edge of the bed, eyes looking up at hers. “We’re not gonna leave you, or kick you out. You’ve always been a sister to me and nothing’s gonna change that. We’ll be your family.”
Through muffled tears, Mardea mumbled out a thank you. Izuku knew it was genuine. Katsuki reached over to the desk and grabbed the tissue box. He handed it to her, which Mardea accepted gratefully.
“Do you remember anything about your birth family?” Shoto realized his curious words may have been inappropriate after he said them. Katsuki and Izuku’s eyes shot daggers through him.
She shook her head, “Not really. I was in foster care by the time I was able to remember things.”
“So you and YaoMomo were in different foster homes?”
“I suppose we were. I don’t remember seeing her, or being told I had any siblings while in the system.” Mardea reached back and grabbed a pillow to hold in her lap.
“You’ve never really told me about your time in the system.”
“Never felt a need to. Guess I wasn’t ready to talk about it before.”
“Was it bad?”
“No… it…” She thought a moment, eyes staring off into space, “It wasn’t bad- it was just a constant feeling of loneliness. I would make friends, then seemingly the next day they’d get adopted. I had to learn to be okay with people leaving. Guess I’m not anymore.”
“And that’s perfectly okay, Dea.” Katsuki crossed his arms, “You’re allowed to grieve losing others.”
“I know that… it just still sucks.”
“Feelings are complicated.” Izuku smiled, “It’s okay if you feel messy right now.”

Worldbreaker Part 2
A/n: Hi i exist sometimes.
----------------------------------------
“You burned?” Shoto caressed Mardea’s back gently. He wasn’t one for great amounts of physical affection unless she instigated it.
Her left arm stretched out, “You can’t see it now, but there were black burned scars all up and down my arms. It was so painful to move. Healing it was even worse- which was why my body ached and skin was so tender.”
“And the easy bruise,” Shoto’s fingers ghosted her collarbone, the black and blue visible from her tank top pajamas- still fresh from hours before. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there…”
“We couldn’t have known,” Mardea slouched forward, face resting in the crook of his neck. “Honey I’m so scared and tired…” Tears escaped and landed on his cotton t-shirt.
He froze, not knowing where to put his hands. Does he hug her? Rub her back? Sometimes she likes head pets… Shoto settled on a hug, careful to his placement of his arms to not startle her.
“Don’t let go.” A whisper of longing. He knows that she knows his limits with physical affection. He can stop and she’ll understand. But what would that make him- just like his father? He shouldn’t abandon his love when she gets scared, which wasn’t often, if ever.
“I won’t.” Resolve to be here, in this moment, just doing his best to comfort her.
A cool draft whisked through his room. Shoto pulled one blanket from the end of the bed up to cover their legs and feet. Another one was behind Mardea’s head. Slowly reaching over, he was able to drape it over her shoulders.
“Thank you,” She pulled him closer, entirely eliminating the space between them. The thought that she held him this way for fear of either of them disappearing tugged his heartstrings.
-----
Hello, pumpkin.
A knee-jerk reaction, Mardea teleported from Shoto’s sleeping embrace to near the closet door. She landed with a thud on the floor. That’ll definitely bruise.
Aw, how cute.
Mardea’s ears couldn’t hear anything in the room besides her own thundering heartbeat. Where was the source of this voice? Was she here? If anything happened to Shoto then nothing in this world would protect that stranger from Mardea’s red fury.
I’m outside. Come walk with me.
“Fucking hell,” Mardea whispered, standing up as quietly as she could. Was it risky doing what this woman said and not telling anyone? Yes. Was it equally as risky to not obey? Yes, and it put the others in danger.
Mardea threw on a sweatshirt and pants then slipped out the window, landing on the fresh earth. It was cold against her bare feet. The night air was still, as if afraid of what lurked within itself.
Leaves crunched around the back corner of the dorm. A bolt was in her hands, illuminating the area as Mardea jumped out ready to attack. But nothing was there.
“Pumpkin, don’t be so reckless.” The change to lilac was instantaneous as the woman appeared behind her. “Still a bit afraid, aren’t you?”
Mardea stayed silent; the bolt desummoned from her hand as the woman walked around to face her.
Her hair obstructed most of her face, “You’ve got much to learn if you want to control energy instead of it controlling you. Like your lilac right now.”
“You need to leave me and my loved ones alone.” Crimson strands.
“Ah, little one, you’re so closed minded.” The woman let out a little laugh, “You think this is a villainous endeavor?” She placed a gloved hand on the coarse brick. “This is purely about you bettering yourself. And unlike the fools in there who are trying desperately to train you with no idea how, I know exactly what you need and how to strengthen you.”
“…how do you know?”
An unsettling grin, “I am so glad you asked.”
Her gloved hand quickly swiped over the brick. Where her hand had been was replaced with brown energy. With a snap of her fingers, the energy turned into a view of the dorm rooftop.
Mardea just stared, “…wha-” A shove and she went through.
“That, little one,” Mardea turned to see the woman walk through and snap again, closing the brown energy circle, “…is one of many things I can teach you. My name is Vera, and I was the first person with an energy manipulation quirk.”
Her brows furrowed in a vain attempt to understand the situation, “If you were the first, I’d have heard about you in classes, right?”
Laughter. The woman, Vera, slightly bent at the waist, wiping a tear from her eyes hiding behind her hair. “You have too much faith in your education, little one. People like us don’t fit the narrative, so they write and write and educate and brainwash until we simply no longer exist. Your teachers didn’t even know energy quirks existed until you showed up, didn’t they? Have you gotten any education, training, or even advice about how to control your quirk?”
“I… uh…”
“No, they push you to the side and tell you to figure it out.” Vera straightened and walked to the front edge of the building. “You have no one too look up to for help. When you get positive results, you’re praised, but when you struggle, they put you in a ‘meditation room’ so they don’t have to tell you how to get better.”
“Izzy has All Might…..guess Bakugo has him too… Shoto has Endeavour, technically speaking…”
Vera turned suddenly, holding her arms out wide, “And you, Miss Lin, could have me as your mentor, if you wish.”
Was this Mardea’s future if she didn’t accept? Her work and efforts all made on her own- no real guidance to set her straight. Full potential never achieved due to her own ignorance, or willful neglect of an offer right here on this cold dreary rooftop.
Sure, Aizawa tried his best and knew how to calm her down- but he wasn’t always there. She couldn’t count on him in a battle if things got rough with her energy. Midnight didn’t exactly offer great teachings either, instead focusing on Mardea’s….er… natural charisma to aid in battle. Fucking All Might himself can barely assist because he’s so focused on his own charade and helping Izzy take his place.
What did she have to lose?
“…Okay.”
“You accept my offer?”
Mardea stepped forward until she was within arm’s reach of Vera, “Yes, I accept.”
A smirk, “First lesson, show me what you got-“
And then Mardea was shoved off the roof.
-----
It felt that time slowed down as Mardea descended towards the ground. Was this a cruel joke? Had she just made a disastrous mistake?
She glanced at the dorm as she fell. There was a bird’s nest by the window of Kirishima’s room. A robin was asleep in it.
Bird.
Wings.
Hawks.
Summoning the memories of that night with the number two hero, Mardea’s hair turned white.
-----
Vera leaned over the edge, hoping she needn’t save her new student. A blur of white pushed past, nearly knocking her over. It flew through the clouds.
“Farther along than I thought,” Vera snapped her fingers, creating a platform to meet her in the sky.
-----
It’s quiet up here.
A cloud trail followed her into this space above the clouds- nothing but the stars and the moon keeping her company in the purple twilight. Mardea never fully thought and meditated on the ivory glow now outlining her fingertips and eyes.
Angelic.
“You’ve done well.” Vera’s voice broke the serenity Mardea found in the silence.
“You pushed me!”
“I would’ve saved you if you didn’t react.”
“Teachers don’t jeopardize their students’ lives.”
“Please, you jeopardize your lives every day in that school. You do so even more when you search for your brother.”
Crimson.
“Don’t get angry with me, little one. I came with good intentions and speaking only truth.”
Mardea’s wings collapsed, the energy reforming to match Vera’s platform. “I didn’t trust you much before that stunt, and that level certainly didn’t go up after.”
“Aw, pumpkin. Find solace in the fact that you’re farther along than I originally thought.” She crossed her arms, “I didn’t think you’d have figured out how to make wings work.”
A shrug, “Guess you should start giving me more credit.”
The platform shifted with each step Vera took away from Mardea. She had to walk with her to keep from falling again.
“I’ve seen the footage of your UA tournament battles. You have an…average range of colors.”
“Average?”
“There was bystander footage of your development of white, too. I’m glad to see that your body does react to the different pulls of energy in the world.” A sudden stop. “What’s curious is why more haven’t manifested at this point.” She turned to face Mardea, moon perfectly centered behind her, “Do you suppress your emotions or do you intentionally try and connect them to things outside your mind?”
A pause, “…I allow myself to feel things but it never occurred to me to try that.”
A cheeky grin, “That is your first lesson, pumpkin. Now go get some sleep!” Vera’s gloved hands clapped twice.
Green glowing energy outlines Mardea’s figure. Suddenly, she was back in Shoto’s dorm, laying on top of the blankets he’d gently pulled above her just hours before.
But he wasn’t there.
“Shoto?” Mardea tried to whisper to not wake the neighboring students. Or Aizawa. He’d kick their asses for breaking the bedroom rule. Feet touching the wood floor, she tiptoed to the door and opened slightly, peering into the hallway.
At the end of the hall, the elevator door opened. Shoto stepped out, looking concerned.
“Shoto!” A harsh loud whisper to get his attention. He seemed to perk up after seeing her in the doorway, and quickened his pace.
“Where did you go? I thought you went to your room.” Shoto closed the door behind him, taking Mardea’s hand with his free one. He felt colder than usual.
“She called out to me.”
“The woman from yesterday?” Brief panic “I didn’t hear anything…”
“No it was… like a mental connection. Telepathy, I guess? She talked to me for a bit. Anyway it was a lot and I’m really tired. I’ll tell you and Aizawa everything in the morning, okay?”
“…okay.”
“Shoto, is something wrong?” Mardea pulled him forward, letting them both sit on his bed.
Just talk to her dammit
“No.” Eyes drifted to the floor
“Don’t lie to me, Shoto.” Her hand squeezed his briefly, “You don’t have to tell me now, but don’t lie to me.”
Just TALK TO HER GODDAMMIT
“…I woke up… and… you were gone…”
“Did that-“
“You scared me.” Eyes still finding the floor fascinating. “You usually…” a breath, “Fuck, I know what I want to say but it won’t come out!” Shoto stood up in frustration, leaving Mardea on the bed. Both hands rolled through his hair.
“Shoto it’s oka-“
“No it’s not!” He realized how loud his voice was getting. He knelt to the floor, “Dea…” A shakier breath. Mardea knelt down to the floor beside him, giving him time to speak. “I want to… I want to help you and protect you but how am I supposed to do that when this woman can just… talk to you and bother you whenever she wants?”
There was genuine pain in his eyes. It made Mardea’s heart hurt.
“What am I supposed to do if she hurts you?” A single tear ran down his face.
She placed a hand on his face, thumb wiping away his tear, “I don’t know, Shoto.”
Ice seized his right side, leaving an intricate layer of frost. His breathing became uneven, ragged. Pupils constricted; eyes wide. Panic attack on the floor of his dorm at 3 in the morning. Panic. Panic. Panic panic panicpanicpanicpanic-
“It’ll be okay, love.” Mardea pulled him close, letting him lay on her as she leaned against the bed. The weight of his body on hers helped ease her racing heartbeat. “We’ll find a way to make it safe.” She kissed his hair, using her free hand to rub his unfrosted back. “You’re not going to lose me, Shoto.”
All the words she hoped he needed to hear. Hoped he could hear amidst the intrusive thoughts racing his mind.
As the minutes went by, they both calmed down. Too tired to move, Mardea used her quirk to teleport them to bed for the last remaining hours of nighttime.

Worldbreaker Pt. 1
The rubble. The screams. The frantic hands digging through the mess above her buried broken lifeless body. The last stone moving away- seeing the white light shine onto her. A hand reaching out-
Mardea shot up, sweat covering her body. Reaching out to see the alarm clock, she had to bite down a yelp of pain.
“Not…again…” Her voice was tired and straining. Black Energy had marked her arms in the night, leaving burns on her skin and the sheets.
She stumbled into her bathroom, slamming the cold water handle on to fill the tub. Her feet sizzled on the chilled ivory tile, heat coming off her body in waves. She shouldn’t be this hot with just panties and a loose cotton tank top on, but this is one of many burdens of being Mardea Lin.
The water stung her tender burnt skin. Steam hissed from her body, distracting her from wanting to scream. Mardea hadn’t been severely burned by fire, but she imagined they were just as bad as her energy burns. Izzy’s the only one she ever felt the need to explain the difference to. His curiosity was always humorous to her.
The fact that the water was ice cold made the next part easier. Keeping thoughts in her mind to ground her to reality, Mardea submerged herself completely in the tub.
Green wisps flowed out from her palms. Interacting with the water, they went to work cooling her down and resolving her burns. A waterlogged scream escaped her throat, the sensory overload and pain being overwhelming. The burnt skin ripped itself off, attaching to the energy  swirling around it. New unblemished skin replaced it quickly- unnatural if one didn’t have a medic-related quirk.
It felt like hours, but Mardea was done in minutes. The water was grey and heavily clouded when she sat back up, now shivering from the cold. Her stomach churned, and without a moment to react, she vomited into the already dirty water.
“…fuck…” her voice was a quaky whisper. She couldn’t keep going on like this.
The push and pull of energy forces from within herself danced with the outside ones. It was as if something out there wanted her to lose control, wanted Code Black to become the new normal.
The water-vomit mixture spiraled down the drain. Mardea waited until the tub was empty before fighting for strength to rinse herself off with the shower.
Morning couldn’t come soon enough.
-----
“But consider the reverse!” Kaminari shoved a spoonful of cereal in his mouth, “If you had a human head and a bird body, all the villains would be too scared to fight and you could round ‘em up easy!”
“Easily,” Tokoyami corrected, pulling his hoodie as he stood up to leave, “And that is utterly ridiculous.”
Sero set his coffee down, “Does that mean if Hawks was reversed he’d have a bird body and human arms on his back?!”
“Holy. Shit. Dude.” Kaminari looked like he had an epiphany, “That would be…terrifying. I love it.”
Ashido slammed her hands flat on the table, “KIRI WOULD BE A ROCK THAT TURNS INTO A BALL OF FLESH!”
“Noooooo,” Kirishima groaned, leaning back with his hands on his face, “I was already a ball of flesh in the hero test! Unpleasant, 0 out of 10 do not recommend.”
Sero giggled, “Guys, guys listen… Bakugo… Is an explosion that throws out humans.”
An eruption of laughter consumed the living room of the dorms. The noise echoed into the hallway leading to the stairs.
“Wait, wait, wait,” Kirishima wiped a tear from his eye, “Does, ehehehe, does that mean that mean that he’s a continuous explosion or like, hah, one out of every 5 explosions is Bakugo randomly spurting out humans to attack villains.”
The laughter quieted, giving the group time to think, then Ashido spoke, “Can you imagine if the latter was true? Like, if you’re a villain using C4 to break into a bank then suddenly ‘I AM A VERY ANGRY EXPLOSION HAVE SOME HUMANS TO THE FACE!’ Bruh, I’d shit my pants.”
“What about the former?” A sudden appearance of Lin behind Kaminari made him jump and spill his cereal. “If he’s a continuous explosion he’d have to be put in a container to function as a ‘human’ in society. Imagine shoving Boom-boy into a reinforced Smucker’s jam jar.”
The laughter resumed. Kirishima looked up to ask Lin a question, “Hey, what if- wait. Lin you’re glowing.”
A brief panic, “Wh- no I’m not.” She looked herself over, “I’m not outputting any en-“
“No! Your skin is radiant,” A cheeky smile, “Did you do a new skincare routine from YouTube?”
A pause, “…Yes…that’s what I did.”
Ashido’s eyes sparkled, “DEAAAAAA you gotta show me!”
“Maybe later, after you bring your grade to a B.” She winked, “Anyway, I’m hungry, see ya later.” Lin meandered over to the kitchen, where Uraraka was making what smelled like waffles.
“… aaaand voila!” Uraraka flailed her arms in a dramatic manner, “A Together Breakfast!” The platter was filled with waffles topped with syrup, whipped cream, popcorn, and strawberries.
“Wow!” Midoriya’s stomach rumbled, “This looks great! Thank you!”
She giggled, “I made enough for everyone so dig in!” She gestured to those surrounding the counter. “Let our Saturday breakfast tradition begin!”
Lin leaned on Todoroki’s shoulder, the sudden contact startling him, “It’s just me, don’t worry.”
“Hello, love,” He tilted his head to lean on hers, “Sleepy?”
“Sore…”
“Training yesterday was that rough?”
“…Yes.” She straightened. Her silent body language purposely telling him that she didn’t wanna talk about it in front of the others. “My whole body feels vulnerable and tender. Like one touch will bruise for days.”
“Take it easy today, then,” He smiled, “Eat something to regain your strength.” A soft kiss to her head, reminding her that they can talk privately later.
“Hey Frick and Frack, save the PDA for when we’re not eating,” Bakugo sat on the counter, munching on toast with tomato and cheese slices on top. “You’re gonna make me puke.”
“Your taste in breakfast food will make me puke,” Midoriya stuck out his tongue.
“Says fucking you. Who eats shitty popcorn for breakfast?”
“It’s not popcorn, it’s pepcorn!” Uraraka tossed a kernel at the blonde, “Popcorn with a pep!”
Bakugo scowled, staring the group down. He swiped the kernel away from him, “You’re not original, this is all from YouTube.”
“Stop being such a fucking killjoy,” Jirou slammed her glass of juice down on the counter. “We get it, your aesthetic is to hate everything and think you’re the best. Don’t you get tired of having your head so far up your own ass? Huh?”
“I’m done,” Lin backed away and turned towards the hallway. “It’s too early for arguing.”
Yaoyorozu stood up, “Mardea, don’t go! We were gonna go out today! The Saturday Flea Market is up in the plaza across town!”
Fuck I forgot “Yeah, right…. Lemme put on proper ‘going out’ clothes.” A snap and she was gone in a green flash.
------
“Isn’t this fun! Nice to stretch our legs on a sunny day off.” Momo did a little spin, flowing out the bottom of her sunflower sundress.
Tsuyu joined the twirling, though her green romper left little to flow out. “Ribbit, it’s the perfect temperature today. I bet the pools will be packed.”
“Whaddaya think, ‘Dea?” Mina, clad in her pastel blue crop top and matching shorts, “Should we try swimming today or just mingle in the market?”
Mardea thought a moment, “Market wandering sounds good for now. Plus I didn’t bring a swimsuit- I doubt jean overalls would fair well in a pool.”
“Hmm, fair point.” Mina skipped ahead, stopping at a sunglasses stall. The sun reflected off them, making the products glitter and look more enticing.
Mardea glanced around the crowd. Mina was at that stall, whereas Tsuyu and Momo had been lost to the growing population of the market. The tips of her hair shifted to magenta. Her eyes scanned the scenery. Where were their energy signatures?
“Nice trick,” Mardea froze at the unfamiliar voice behind her, magenta instantly switching to lilac, “Color shifting is good for quick blending into crowds, though I feel that this little cosmetic show is a front for your quirk.”
It was a feminine sounding voice- maybe an older woman who smoked on occasion?
“I can feel your thoughts from back here, pumpkin.” A warm hand gripped her right shoulder, “You don’t have to turn around, I know who you are, Mardea. Don’t you think it’s strange that I snuck up on you with your magenta setting on?”
The lilac grew.
“You don’t need to be afraid. I want to help you. There’s a lot of energy in this world, you know. How would it be to not feel like it’ll crush you at any moment? What if you could control it? Not your definition of control- you still let that Code Black sit alone, festering. What if you could harness it?”
“Hey ‘Dea?” Mina’s voice called out, “We got lunch! Where ya at?”
“I will find you again,” The hand left, “Be wary, Mardea. You’re not the only one who knows energy.”
Momo came through the people, “Guys! She’s over here!” She turned, smiling, “Where have you- oh my god are you okay? You’re purple-y.”
Mardea looked up, eyes matching her hair, “We need to leave. Now.”
“Okay yeah. Yeah.” Momo took her twin’s hand, “You’re okay now. We’re here.” Mina and Tsuyu emerged, confused at the color shift. Momo pointed at them, “We’re leaving. Now. Back to UA.”
-----
“You’re sure it was a woman?” Aizawa sat across from Lin in his office.
Lin shrugged, “That what she sounded like. She snuck up on me, didn’t let me turn around.” She pulled her shirt collar over to expose her shoulder, “She bruised me when she grabbed me.”
Aizawa raised an eyebrow, “How did she do that?”
“I DON’T KNOW!” Lin’s stress boiled over, red and lilac strands forming in her hair, “I don’t know who she is all I know is I didn’t sense her and she said I wasn’t the only one who knew energy and that she’s gonna find me again and I don’t know how to not let that happen because if I cant find her then no one can find her probably like how-” A gasp of air, hair returning to normal, as Aizawa grabbed her shoulders, kneeling in front of her.
“You need to calm down.” His voice was calm. “You didn’t do anything wrong. I’m not going to tell you to not worry, because I know you will anyway. All the teachers will be on the lookout for suspicious women around campus. I’ll let the Pro-Heroes know that this happened and see if they can snoop out anything. Okay?”
“Okay…” She leaned forward, hugging him with tears in her eyes, “Thank you…”
A smile, “It’s okay.”

Kirishima, Ashido, and Kaminari: Wow 'Dea your skin is radiant! Did you do a skincare routine from YouTube?
Mardea Lin, whose own quirk deeply burned her in the night and forced her to heal it in a very painful way, meaning her skin is now super soft and tender and vulnerable:

Little Ones
A/N:: this came to me in a dream and I had to write
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aizawa’s eye twitch, face hidden behind his scarf, “They… what?”
The policeman shrugged, “Some villain turned them into toddlers- a kind of de-aging quirk. After hours of questioning, they revealed that it wears off after two weeks, and that they’ve forgotten most of their teenage memories. Your boys will be stuck like that until then.”
A groan of frustration, “Alright. Thanks for picking them up. I’ll take them back to the dorms now.”
-----
It was 10:30pm when Aizawa pulled into the UA dorms. Todoroki and Bakugo, the victims of the de-aging quirk, were fast asleep in the backseat.
He’d run into the nearest store for toddler apparel and car seats, which was why both boys were clad in… cat onesies. And had little cat blankets. And why Aizawa had some burnt hair from putting the boys into them.
Wow, toddlers are fussy.
Walking through the dorms, one sleeping boy in each arm, Aizawa didn’t expect to see Yaoyorozu and Lin still up in the kitchen.
“What are you girls doing?”
Lin tensed up, turning around, “We weren’t tired and were making tea and- WAIT is that Sho-”
The kettle for the girls’ tea started whistling. Yaoyorozu wasn’t quick enough to get it off the stove. The toddlers stirred and began whimpering.
He yawned, “Great… just what I needed…”
“Here,” Lin walked over, arms outstretched, “I’m good with kids. I’ll watch them.”
Shrugging tiredly, Aizawa handed the boys over, who were now full-on crying, “We’ll figure out more details tomorrow morning. Head to bed.”
“Yes, sir.”
Once he went upstairs, Momo lifted her shirt, “I’ll make them some clothes and toys. A cat onesie isn’t gonna get them too far.”
Mardea smiled, “Let’s get them to the dorm first. We won’t have to carry so much up, then.”
-----
11:15pm. Sitting on her bed, Mardea made a small pillow pile, finally getting the boys back to sleep.
Clothes began popping out of Momo’s torso, “Here we go. These’ll look and fit better.”
“Toys?” Mardea wondered, “Maybe a plushie or a little car?”
“I feel like Bakugo would throw the car at Midoriya.” Momo formed some teddy bears, “We’ll see how it is tomorrow.”
“Okay, true.” Her emerald eyes drifted back to how peaceful the boys looked, “Stop by before breakfast. I’ll try to have them up by then.”
“Night, sis.” Momo allowed one more blanket to form before heading out the door. She shut it quietly, as to not wake anyone.
Covering herself with the blanket, Mardea found sleep.
-----
When she woke, a pair of heterochromatic eyes stared back.
“Hello, Shoto.” She placed a hand on his back, gently moving up and down, “Sleep well?”
A silent nod yes. He was clutching one of the bears Momo made.
Mardea sat up, finding Katsuki still asleep. Shoto must’ve woken up first, found the bear, and crawled back.
“Let’s get you dressed, little one,” Her soft voice made the boy inch closer, allowing her to get him changed.
He was rather helpful while changing clothes. Seeing his little half-n-half head pop out of the teal-colored shirt made her giggle.
God, he was just so cute.
A rustle and a thud grabbed Mardea’s attention. Eyes searching the bed, she found Katsuki crawling back up, a small bump on his head. Tears welled as he let out a cry.
“Oh, Katsuki…” She picked up Shoto and set him on the bed, “Did you bump your head?”
Incoherent crying accompanied by hot tears answered. Katsuki wouldn’t stop fidgeting, making helping him near impossible.
Finally prying his hands off his head, Mardea gave a quick kiss over the bump, “All better~.” At least that stopped his crying.
A knock came to the door. “It’s open!” She called over her shoulder.
Momo walked through, “Breakfast is ready, sis.”
“Ah, okay. Katsuki isn’t letting me change him, so I’ll leave the onesie on for now.” Mardea stood up, “Come now, little ones.”
The boys waddled over, Shoto still holding the teddy bear.
-----
A chorus of “AWWWW!” came from the girls. A chorus of camera flashes came from the boys, specifically the Bakusquad. When this wore off, they were so gonna get it.
“Hiya, Todoroki!” Uraraka knelt, smiling.
Todoroki’s eyes grew wide in fear. He tried to hide behind Lin’s leg, face buried in the bear.
“It’s okay, Sho.” Lin pat his head, attempting to calm his panic.
Sudden growling, followed by Kaminari screeching, forced Lin’s attention to the boys. Bakugo was biting at their calves, a devious look in his eyes.
“GET OFF ME!!” Kaminari pulled at Bakugo’s onesie, only making the boy chomp down harder.
Lin used her quirk to gently open Bakugo’s jaw. Once Kaminari was free, she used it to float the toddler into her arms.
“Let’s try not to bite others, okay?” Lin didn’t raise her voice, instead keeping it soft.
The toddler crossed his arms, pouting, “They made fun of me!!”
She sighed, eyes still gentle, “That doesn’t mean you bite them. Say you’re sorry.”
“No!”
“Say you’re sorry, little one.”
“No! No no nononono NO!” He began kicking and writhing around in her arms, tantrum on the verge of breaking.
“I won’t give you your favorite cereal for breakfast unless you calm down and say sorry.”
Bakugo’s eyebrows furrowed, lip trembling. With a shaky breath, he looked in Kaminari’s general direction, “I… sorry…”
Kirishima, Kaminari, and Sero struggled to contain their laughter. All three of their phones let out a small noise, signaling the end of a recording. The blond boy stuttered out a response, “Y-yeah… pfff, we cool, little dude…”
“You sure know how to handle kids, Dea.” Asui pointed a slender finger.
Lin shrugged and walked to the kitchen counter, setting Bakugo in the seat, “My adopted family had a bunch of younger kids. Since the parents were usually out, I took care of them.” Todoroki pulled on her pantleg, so she picked him up, too.
Midoriya looked them over, “It’s amazing how much effect that villain’s quirk had. It’s simple in theory but looking atitnowit’sapowerfulquirkifitcanalterandreversesomeone’sentirebodylikethisandforwhat2weeksthatsalongtimeimamazedandterrified-”
“Deku you’re scaring them,” Uraraka poked his cheek, bringing him back to reality. He mumbled an apology, going pink with embarrassment.
The toddlers had small bowls of cereal in front of them. Lin cut up some strawberries from the fridge and put them on a plate for them to share.
Just then, all the students’ phones buzzed with a notification. Present Mic set up a group chat for the class, giving Aizawa and himself admin controls over it.
Present Mic: Aizawa said that Todoroki and Bakugo were turned into kids by a villain! How TRAGIC!!!!! 😭😭😭I’m asking Lin to help take care of them until they’re back to normal😝! Make sure you fellow classmates keep her up to speed in studies until then~😁😁😁💯💯
Lin put her phone away, “Guess it’s official now.”
Yaoyorozu clapped her hands, “We can switch if you need a break!”
“I’ll manage. Until then, you guys need to head to class.” Lin pointed to the clock. An avalanche of late students scrambled for the dorm doors, making the toddlers giggle.

Idea that came to me in a dream:
UA decides it has had enough with Katsuki using his quirk in class (not training) so now he has to wear gloves until fight training. They made a big deal about it, always calling out to him if he didn’t have them on. (All Might, of course, was against it, but the other teachers out-voted him)
Mardea thought it was ridiculous, so she and Izuku wear gloves similar to Kat’s except they’re different colors. Katsuki, of course, notices, but is too humiliated by it all to mention it.
Others in 1-A catch on with the gloves conspiracy and soon all of them have gloves on. It spreads to the other classes (Gen Studies, 1-B, Support tech, etc).
Teachers aren’t happy. The conversation goes like this:
Nezu: The gloves aren’t part of your uniform. Remove them.
Lin: Oh, so Kat can remove his too?
Midnight: No, as he’s been causing trouble in classes with his quirk.
Lin: Aren’t you worried that we’ll cause trouble with our quirks in class? I mean, there’s more powerful and more destructive quirks in this school than ‘Explosion.’
Aizawa: Miss Lin st-
Lin: Aren’t you worried that Kaminari will electrocute students?
Kaminari: Yeah! I’ll fry ‘em!
Midoriya: Or what if I break another student’s arm with my quirk?
Todoroki: I’ll set the school on fire and throw ice javelins at people who try to escape.
Jirou: I’ll play my music on full blast
Nezu: You’ve made your-
Lin: I could harm everyone and you couldn’t do a thing about it. Aren’t you worried about the disruptions I’ll cause?
Nezu: Fine! Everyone take the gloves off! Bakugo, you too! Hand them over!
Back at the dorms, Katsuki corners Mardea and yells at her about being a “fucking dumbass but thanks”

Midoriya studied Lin’s form as the class trained. She’d gotten better, and definitely had a more acute control over her energy than the previous year. Her endurance during training was also worthy of note. Lin didn’t seem to need a break until the session was almost over.
“It’s rude to stare, Izzy,” Midoriya snapped out of his gaze as Lin tossed a water bottle at him. Thankfully, he caught it, “If you take a picture, this version of me will last longer.”
He gave a shaky laugh, “I’m sorry... you’ve just improved so much. I guess i got hypnotized by your attacks.”
“Ah, such a charmer.”
“I’m serious, Dea,” Midoriya glanced at his scarred hands, “You’ve improved so much with ease. I feel like I’m still at square one.”
Lin’s eyes hit the floor, “...This is way harder than you think, Izzy...”
Attention snapped up, “What do you mean?”
Lin set her bottle down and leaned forward on the bench, “Remember how All Might described OFA to you? How you’re a too-full glass of water?”
“Yeah- I have to build my body to be a bigger glass so I’m able to control it.” Midoriya cocked an eyebrow, “How does-”
“Keep picturing the glass,” Lin’s hands laid out palm up, green spirals forming the image of a wineglass, “Instead of water inside the glass, it’s turbulent water completely engulfing it.” The energy in her hands changed. the wineglass was now surrounded by everchanging waves of water.
“You have to build up to contain your power. I have to build up to not be consumed by it.”
The thin glass shattered. Then the image of a sturdier wineglass with a thicker stem and stronger cup formed, easily withstanding the turbulence of the water.
“Dea...”
“Energy is everywhere. I can feel all of it. It’s...quite loud, and makes you feel incredibly small.” Lin smiled, “But I’m stronger now, thanks to the help of you and the others. I won’t be consumed today.”
“Or ever.” Midoriya smiled back, “Sorry if it seemed like I doubted you...”
“You’re okay, Izzy,” Lin stood up and ruffled his hair, “I’ll race you back to the apartment.”
“No teleportation!” He took off without letting her answer.

A/N:: It’s midnight-thirty and i just Want This Done
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Oh, Mama, Shoto’s got a girlfriend!” Fuyumi clapped her hands.
Shoto tensed, eyes suddenly finding a fascinating spot on the floor. He meant to tell Rei about Mardea, but he just… never got around to it. And he knew it meant they’d want to meet, which he wasn’t prepared for. Thanks, Fuyumi.
“Oh, that’s lovely.” Rei smiled at her son, “What’s her name?”
He went silent for a moment, then, “M… Mardea. Mardea Lin.”
“Oh! Didn’t you go up against her in the festival?”
“Yeah…”
Rei pondered aloud, putting a finger to her chin, “She seems like a strong girl. Pretty, too. Is her hair blue?”
“I thought it was blonde,” Fuyumi pulled out her phone to look Mardea up, “Or maybe it was red?”
“It changes color,” Shoto’s lips turned into a hint of a smile, “But naturally, it’s blue. Her eyes are emerald green…”
“Perhaps one day you can bring her by here,” Rei tilted her head, “Only if you think the time is right, though.”
Shoto nodded, “Of course.”
-----
Classes the following day blurred together, then ended before Shoto could blink. Walking down the halls of UA after class, mind scattering thoughts back and forth. Would his mother approve of her? Would they get along? Would Mardea’s quirk scare his mother?
“Sho?” Shoto blinked again, finding Mardea’s hand waving in his face, “Hello? Sho?”
“I’m here…” He grabbed her hand and brought it down, gently intertwining their fingers.
“Physically, yeah. Mentally? I don’t think so,” She playfully teased, tracing her thumb across his hand, “What’s on your mind?”
Everything “Nothing.”
“…I won’t force you to tell me, but don’t lie to me.” Her voice tapered off.
“How did-”
“I know you better than you give me credit for.”
Shoto’s gaze hit the floor, “…. I’m sorry…”
Mardea squeezed his hand, “Don’t be. You’ll tell me when you’re ready. Just…don’t say you’re fine when you’re not.” She stopped walking, causing him to turn around and face her, “I love you. I’m here to support you- in the good and the bad.”
“…It’s not…bad…” Shoto placed his free hand behind his neck, “I’m just…overthinking.”
“Let’s get back to the dorms and make hot cocoa,” She tiptoed and pecked his cheek, “You can tell me what you want, then.”
-----
Warm mugs in hand, the couple sat on the floor in Shoto’s room. Mardea wrapped a large blanket around their shoulders, bringing them closer together.
She leaned her head on his shoulder, “You doing okay?”
Shoto sipped his cocoa, “My mother…wants to meet you.”
“Is that a bad thing?”
“No- well maybe, I… No it’s not.”
“Overthinking her reaction to me?”
Damn she’s good “…I’m just…” His brain racked to find the right words, “I don’t want her to be…scared of you…I want you to get along but I keep conjuring up all these scenarios where it all goes wrong. I want you to be friends I want you to be safe I don’t want her to be scared I don’t want you to hate each other-” He didn’t notice the ice encasing his mug until Mardea sat up and put her hand over it.
“If you’re not comfortable with it, we don’t have to meet.” The warmth of the energy glowing from her hand began to melt the ice, “She means a great deal to you. If it’s too much right now, then we wait. It’s okay.”

A/N:: Gotta balance the fluff and the angst >:)) Also it’s a quarter past midnight so.....yeah
---------------------------------------------------------------
Aizawa groaned, looking at the remaining list of families to talk to, “I feel like this will never end.”
Toshinori scratched his head, “Well, we don’t have too many remaining. Only…” He leaned over Aizawa’s shoulder to peer at the paper, “…Only Bakugo, Todoroki, and Lin. That shouldn’t be too bad!”
-----
“YOU KIDDING? HELL YEAH GET THIS KID IN A DORM!” Mrs. Bakugo was a little too enthusiastic as she slapped her son across the head.
Bakugo groaned, “YOU HAG! HIT ME AGAIN AND I’LL KILL YOU!”
Another hit, “OH SHUT UP! IF YOU HADN’T BEEN SO DAMN WEAK YOU WOULDN’T HAVE GOTTEN CAUGHT AND CAUSED ALL THIS TROUBLE!”
Aizawa whispered to Toshinori, “…I think it might actually be good to get him out of this house.”
“It is a dark place,” Toshinori murmured back.
The fighting continued, despite the teachers’ protests. After it settled, the family signed the paper and the teachers left.
-----
Todoroki sat alone with the teachers at the dining room table, “Where do I sign?”
“We need a parental figure to sign,” Aizawa sighed, “It’s a legal thing.”
“Have Fuyumi sign it,” Todoroki stared at the table.
“She doesn’t have parental authority-”
“Have Rei sign it,” Todoroki looked up.
Toshinori smiled, “That’s acceptable, since she’s your mother.”
“Enji doesn’t have to sign if you don’t want him to.” Aizawa reassured him.
“Good.” Todoroki stood up, “Thank you for coming. I can bring the document to her tomorrow when I visit.”
-----
“Last one,” Toshinori nudged Aizawa, smiling.
Lin’s house came into view. As the car pulled up, the front door swung open and a flash of blue fell out.
“What was that?” Toshinori stared out the car door, concerned.
Lin was on the ground, several bags and a suitcase strewn about.
“YOU’RE NOT OUR DAUGHTER AND YOU NEVER WILL BE!” Her mother threw another bag at Lin, hitting her in the chest.
Lin pushed it off and stood up, “YOU SIGNED THE DAMN PAPERS IN THE FIRST PLACE. YOU WANTED ME!”
Her mother pushed her back, making Lin fall back over the bags.
“IF I’D KNOWN YOU’D TURN OUT SO AWFUL I’D HAVE BURNED THE PAPERS THEN!” the woman reached back into the house then emerged with a manila folder and a lighter, “But now is a better time than any.”
“HEY!” Aizawa raced up to Lin’s side. Toshinori right behind him.
The folder went up in flames, “That’s what I think of your damn adoption. Get out of my sight.” The door slammed.
Lin’s hair turned lilac, tears streaming down her face. Her eyes were fixated on the small fire on the front steps.
“You’re coming with us.” Aizawa helped her up. Toshinori grabbed what bags he could and followed.
-----
The car ride was silent. The only sounds dancing inside were the hum of the engine and the occasional outside playful yell of children running about.
Toshinori’s phone dinged.
“…I contacted the adoption agency. They’re working on legal act-”
He couldn’t finish his sentence before Lin burst into tears. She buried her face in her hands, shoulder shaking.
Aizawa put his arms around her, pulling Lin into a hug. He didn’t say anything; nothing really could be said in this moment.
Toshinori’s phone dinged again, “… Midoriya and his mother have agreed to let you stay with them until the dorms are up if you would like to.”
“…o-okay…” Lin’s voice cracked.
-----
Ms. Midoriya opened the door when the trio rang, “Oh, my darling come here.”
Lin’s hair still had stray strands of lilac; face totally devoid of emotion. She let the woman hug her tight, gently patting her back.
“I’m so sorry, darling…” She pulled away, rubbing her shoulder, “Come right in.”
Aizawa and Toshinori brought her bags in and placed them along the wall in the living room.
Midoriya himself was coming out of the guest bedroom when he saw her, “…’Dea…”
“Izzy…” Her hair had white and lilac strands. She shuffled towards him, losing the will to even hold herself up. He caught her, and led her to the couch.
Aizawa shook Ms. Midoriya’s hand, “Principal Nezu needs us back at UA to report what happened. We’ll be back tomorrow to check in on her.”
She nodded and led the men out. When she returned, Izuku had a blanket around Lin.
“There, heh,” He offered a gentle smile, “This’ll keep you warm.”
“…thank you.”
“Mom made dinner if you-”
“Not hungry…”
“Fair enough,” He ran his fingers through her hair, both worried and fascinated with the colors it had turned. “Dea… You have every right to be scared.” Her grip around his torso tightened, but he continued, “You have every right to be angry. I don’t blame you for anything that’s happened. Take all the time you need, just remember that we’re here for you.”

I know "Show Yourself" from Frozen 2 is about being your own hero and discovering yourself but like every time i listen to it all i visualize is an animatic where Mardea Lin steps into her Code Black power and just blows up the moon.
It’s the song where she becomes the villain
