A/N:: Gotta balance the fluff and the angst >:)) Also it’s a quarter past midnight so.....yeah
---------------------------------------------------------------
Aizawa groaned, looking at the remaining list of families to talk to, “I feel like this will never end.”
Toshinori scratched his head, “Well, we don’t have too many remaining. Only…” He leaned over Aizawa’s shoulder to peer at the paper, “…Only Bakugo, Todoroki, and Lin. That shouldn’t be too bad!”
-----
“YOU KIDDING? HELL YEAH GET THIS KID IN A DORM!” Mrs. Bakugo was a little too enthusiastic as she slapped her son across the head.
Bakugo groaned, “YOU HAG! HIT ME AGAIN AND I’LL KILL YOU!”
Another hit, “OH SHUT UP! IF YOU HADN’T BEEN SO DAMN WEAK YOU WOULDN’T HAVE GOTTEN CAUGHT AND CAUSED ALL THIS TROUBLE!”
Aizawa whispered to Toshinori, “…I think it might actually be good to get him out of this house.”
“It is a dark place,” Toshinori murmured back.
The fighting continued, despite the teachers’ protests. After it settled, the family signed the paper and the teachers left.
-----
Todoroki sat alone with the teachers at the dining room table, “Where do I sign?”
“We need a parental figure to sign,” Aizawa sighed, “It’s a legal thing.”
“Have Fuyumi sign it,” Todoroki stared at the table.
“She doesn’t have parental authority-”
“Have Rei sign it,” Todoroki looked up.
Toshinori smiled, “That’s acceptable, since she’s your mother.”
“Enji doesn’t have to sign if you don’t want him to.” Aizawa reassured him.
“Good.” Todoroki stood up, “Thank you for coming. I can bring the document to her tomorrow when I visit.”
-----
“Last one,” Toshinori nudged Aizawa, smiling.
Lin’s house came into view. As the car pulled up, the front door swung open and a flash of blue fell out.
“What was that?” Toshinori stared out the car door, concerned.
Lin was on the ground, several bags and a suitcase strewn about.
“YOU’RE NOT OUR DAUGHTER AND YOU NEVER WILL BE!” Her mother threw another bag at Lin, hitting her in the chest.
Lin pushed it off and stood up, “YOU SIGNED THE DAMN PAPERS IN THE FIRST PLACE. YOU WANTED ME!”
Her mother pushed her back, making Lin fall back over the bags.
“IF I’D KNOWN YOU’D TURN OUT SO AWFUL I’D HAVE BURNED THE PAPERS THEN!” the woman reached back into the house then emerged with a manila folder and a lighter, “But now is a better time than any.”
“HEY!” Aizawa raced up to Lin’s side. Toshinori right behind him.
The folder went up in flames, “That’s what I think of your damn adoption. Get out of my sight.” The door slammed.
Lin’s hair turned lilac, tears streaming down her face. Her eyes were fixated on the small fire on the front steps.
“You’re coming with us.” Aizawa helped her up. Toshinori grabbed what bags he could and followed.
-----
The car ride was silent. The only sounds dancing inside were the hum of the engine and the occasional outside playful yell of children running about.
Toshinori’s phone dinged.
“…I contacted the adoption agency. They’re working on legal act-”
He couldn’t finish his sentence before Lin burst into tears. She buried her face in her hands, shoulder shaking.
Aizawa put his arms around her, pulling Lin into a hug. He didn’t say anything; nothing really could be said in this moment.
Toshinori’s phone dinged again, “… Midoriya and his mother have agreed to let you stay with them until the dorms are up if you would like to.”
“…o-okay…” Lin’s voice cracked.
-----
Ms. Midoriya opened the door when the trio rang, “Oh, my darling come here.”
Lin’s hair still had stray strands of lilac; face totally devoid of emotion. She let the woman hug her tight, gently patting her back.
“I’m so sorry, darling…” She pulled away, rubbing her shoulder, “Come right in.”
Aizawa and Toshinori brought her bags in and placed them along the wall in the living room.
Midoriya himself was coming out of the guest bedroom when he saw her, “…’Dea…”
“Izzy…” Her hair had white and lilac strands. She shuffled towards him, losing the will to even hold herself up. He caught her, and led her to the couch.
Aizawa shook Ms. Midoriya’s hand, “Principal Nezu needs us back at UA to report what happened. We’ll be back tomorrow to check in on her.”
She nodded and led the men out. When she returned, Izuku had a blanket around Lin.
“There, heh,” He offered a gentle smile, “This’ll keep you warm.”
“…thank you.”
“Mom made dinner if you-”
“Not hungry…”
“Fair enough,” He ran his fingers through her hair, both worried and fascinated with the colors it had turned. “Dea… You have every right to be scared.” Her grip around his torso tightened, but he continued, “You have every right to be angry. I don’t blame you for anything that’s happened. Take all the time you need, just remember that we’re here for you.”
