Hellgate Academy is an urban fantasy dark comedy webseries about a young man from Astoria, New York who learns after years of living as a human, that he is actually a Demon. We follow his story as he struggles through his Tempter training at Hellgate Academy. The series takes inspiration from the fantasy stories of writers like C.S. Lewis (The Screwtape Letters), Dante (The Divine Comedy), Milton (Paradise Lost), the Book of Revelations, and the “seven deadly sins."

When a slacker New York post-grad discovers he is a Demon, he must struggle through his training to tempt a mortal soul. Everyone battles their personal demons… but some demons aren’t very good at the job.

I have heard of quite a few of these and seen most of the manga come thru my register at work lol. I can second the Check Please rec (it’s also a webcomic!) and I’ve been reading the newer Books of Magic in the past year or so ironically enough and thought it was fun, was considering fishing some of the 90s out of the dollar bin at a local comic shop but the condition wasn’t good. Calvin and Hobbes is a CLASSIC and I’ve been meaning to get around to Kingsmen cause I enjoyed the movies. DC Bombshells is a GIFT. A Gift. And I adore the Earth One Teen Titans, kinda wished they’d continued it. Kingdom Come is another classic and something I was leant in high school, I was very lucky in high school lol. Lumberjanes is adorable as well! I know you said you weren’t looking to start new stuff but Fence is a good one and has Check Please vibes. The Umbrella Academy is also great when it comes to just weird superhero flavored nonsense. And Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman is a classic for a very good reason.

Due to some recent personal events, I've decided to pause my activity on the Hellgate Academy fundraiser. Indiegogo does not let you stop a campaign once it is live, so the campaign page will remain up and can continue to accept contributions.

I am okay with this decision. During the first week of the campaign, I was working so much trying to get the word out, that I didn't feel much joy in the process. Each message I sent to close friends made me feel embarrassed and I had a constant feeling of anxiety. I started to resent working on this personal project.

Additionally, at the end of the first week of the campaign, during the Thanksgiving holiday- as I was preparing the first week update video, close friends and major supporters of this project received some tragic news. It feels shameless for me to continue trying to pitch my little project while so many close friends are hurting and need help in real ways.

Since the campaign must remain active for another month, I may return to the campaign at a later date, albeit in a much less shameless capacity. Without the constant plugging of the campaign, I probably won't reach my goal, and that's okay. I’m going to take some time and think about what I can do within my own means to bring my project to life, in a way that does not compromise my personal standards. I already have a few ideas that I would be proud of.

For those of you who have already contributed: As we get closer to the end of the campaign, I will consider how I plan to use your contributions or if the contribitions should be refunded. If I have not completed your social media perks, I promise I will fulfill those perks during the next month after a respectful amount of time has passed.
