UMMMM.... hmmm. It is very pretty i agree. I am constantly flip flopping from hating to loving it ngl. When it's good its incredible and when it's bad i don't even wanna look at it 💀

I think the first episode was perfect, kuno's intro was okay, ryoga's intro was ass and i'll never forgive them for what they did to the scene where akane carries ranma home from tofu's, kodachi's was good, the ice skating arc was fantastic (outside of akane's weird lips that totally took me out of the moment....), and so far the shampoo arc is superior to the original

I think the pacing sucks ass for the first half and then it gets a lot better but they really needed an extra 5ish episodes to slow the fuck down. Like i could not tell you what dr tofu's personality is in the remake, he was barely there. We hardly spent any time on the fact akane's a tomboy to the point i've had new fans tell me "nooo don't call her that she's perfect the way she is!" (its... not an insult 😭)

I think the characterizations are way better, i think the animation is gorgeous, it's literally just the pacing that pisses me off sometimes lmao. I suppose i agree it's better than the original but like.... i think i'd want to flip between the original and the remake in a rewatch just to slow things the fuck down and not lose the moments the original had that i think made the show better

Also as much as everyone says the remake is "more faithful to the manga" it really has a lot of new scenes lmaoooo i'm not complaining i think they've all been great changes/additions but i do think it's funny. I've never been a manga purist

I guess my answer is..... it's very good. If it got anime of the year i'd desperately point at frieren and dungeon meshi but i'd understand. But 12 episodes is not enough time to let them truly shine and because of that i don't think it could replace what the original anime is to me, only supplement it

You'd probably like it if you watched it but if you've seen the old anime you'll also understand what i mean abt the lack of time to just breathe and get to know who these people are and why we should care about them. Like ranma is fully on board w being in love w akane from the start and while akane deserves that i don't think we have enough scenes of them just.... hanging out without any stakes to really get a handle on what it is ranma likes abt her so much other than Cute Girl Who Punches Hard and akane is so much more than that 😭

Hot take: I don't think Shinichi would ever call Kaito "Kai." I don't he's ever called anyone he has cared about a nickname like that before and I don't think he's a nickname type of guy either. If anything, I think him calling you by your first name is the most endearment he can have for you (or "baro" LOL).

Kaito, on the other hand, would definitely call Shinichi "Shin-chan" just for the sake of annoying him LMAO but it's entirely possible that he says it so much that it sticks and Shinichi actually eventually lets him call him that like he does for his mom (and he lets kaito call him all the other terms of endearment too because he's weak like that lmao)

Also, I think Kaito doesn't need to be called Kai. Literally just Shinichi calling him Kaito alone would send butterflies in his stomach. Cause finally the Great Detective is calling me by name!!!! He knows my identity!!!! He knows me!!! Not KID, me!!! Just being called by his real name would already melt Kaito into a puddle that man is a goner.

Also also!!!! I think Shinichi calling Kaito "thief" gets Kaito misty eyed sometimes because Shinichi is Shinichi and he knows I'm a thief and yet he's still here despite it all. LIKEEEE "thief" is a lil funny silly goofy nickname until kaito reflects on the implications and he's all:

Jffjhfgj like I said I'm not sure I did the best job with the conceptual side of things regarding that fic bc,,, iirc you already have read it? A lot of Sympathy for the Devil was obviously me exploring cycles of abuse, self-hatred expressed via hatred of your own perceived flaws reflected in your parents, and the ethical implications of how we socially view inherited mental illness/genetic predisposition but I was also pretty heavy-handed in questioning afo's lack of redemption and the circumstances that surround it.

Plenty of readers seemed to take a pretty black and white approach to the conflict presented à la blindly sympathizing with Yagi and condemning afo, but I did intend for him to be somewhat sympathetic in the way he obviously craves comprehension and understanding that society blatantly refuses to grant him.

He gets a lot of indirect characterization in that fic through Izuku's thoughts and actions and I think readers tended to assume that the feelings Izuku grappled with throughout were limited to him when I intended them to be simultaneously indicative of afo's adolescent anxieties regarding alienation and his own status as "monstrous."

Afo DEFINITELY isn't in the right in the context of the story, but if you recall my tags on one of your posts a good bit ago, I interpret afo's desire for consumption and control partially as a fear response, and I genuinely think his goal to achieve widespread influence and power is a manifestation of his desire to be understood and accepted as he is.

He calls his followers his family members (think back to him referring to Aoyama as his nephew), regularly attempts to relate to them (his convos with Dabi and Tomura come to mind), constantly asserts that he understands them because he has an evident desire to, and goes out of his way to justify his actions and the power dynamics he perpetuates by recreating them in miniature (he projects onto Tomura to an ridiculous degree).

Readers were intended to question what exactly it was that made afo irredeemable, and Yagi's answer wasn't supposed to be definitive. He and Izuku's disgust with afo originates from a place of extreme bias and the fic intends to acknowledge that. There WASN'T necessarily anything that completely justified afo's murder, which is partially why Izuku runs away as part of the fic's conclusion.

If he really is like afo, then he won't receive sympathy, and exactly why is left to the audience to parse (though I did intend for it to be a metaphor for the stigmatization of mental illness, yeah hdfhfj). So while I'm not entirely certain that I did the best job conveying it, all this was supposed to be explored in sympathy. I may need to make a clearer rewrite in the future :P
