Something is DEFINITELY up... I got inspired by an upcoming family trip to Zhangjiajie, China and came up this series, Orientober. Oriental + Inktober... Yup this is a Asian themed Inktober. For my case is that a have to create all 31 ink drawings based on the Chinese characters I found from the dictionary (I read through that thick bible of words 😵). Each character carries a lot of meanings and they're quite generic in this series. I thought it would be fun if I introduce you the characters to share a part of my culture. You can also learn a bit or two about Mandarin! Anyone is free to draw these prompts. I am really grateful that you would share your interpretation. 𝑳𝒚𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒔 𝑹𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒂 (彼岸花)

This is a personal work of mine for NeonMob original series, Flower Banquet. The series is a collection of Mongolian themed flower humanoids. For this piece, I wanted to create the Goddess of Death by blending in two vital elements: red spider lily and Mongolian sky burial. Mongolians would leave the corpse out in the fields to be devoured by vultures and eagles as they strong believed that these birds would carry the person’s soul to heaven, which is how the clothing is inspired. The goddess also appears to have missing body parts which symbolize the disassembling of the body before feeding the vultures. As for the red spider lily, it means ‘never to meet again’ in Chinese culture. The flower never meets the leaves, this is how the meaning came from. Chinese believe that this flower guides souls to the underworld. Japanese often use it for funerals. Overall, this piece carries a rich background of the Mongolian culture yet bitter meaning from the flower.
