Going insane over Paco and Gloria like WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE LEFT AND NEVER LOOKED BACK AND HE HAD TO WATCH HER LEAVE WITHOUT A PROPER GOODBYE. AND JUNIOR AND BOY PROBABLY BEING THE DOG THAT WAS ATTACKING WHEN HE GOT ARRESTED AAAAAAA

the main thing i wanted to do with the collection was mimic how the philippines as a country just Cannot Catch A Break. so 6/7 of the stories end like Paco and Grace's—tragic, bitter, but with a sliver of hope that you can cling to until the next story. only the last story, Book of Maria, was allowed to end happily because they represented that hope coming to fruition, that happy-ish ending nobody else got.

so there was never a version of The Hounds Of Saint Street that ended happily. grace and paco are soooo doomed by the narrative they never stood a chance lol

(also my favorite thing about Hounds was how it was a battle of genres. the characters are quite literally living different stories; grace thinks she's in a coming-of-age romance, paco is in a living nightmare; it just highlights the stark difference in their upbringings and circumstances)
