there's a kanji romance mod for p4 now so i think we just need to finish the set. teddie romance mod. modding community please.
#rambearling#persona 4#p4#BEFORE YOU SAY ANYTHING. the yosuke romance mod doesn't actually set any romance flag and i assume the same goes for the kanji one#they just change dialogue#so with that logic a teddie romance mod with that same logic is completely plausible thanks for coming to my tedtalk (<- unintentional pun)#have i ever said i like narukuma cuz i like narukuma. prefer souyo and kujikuma but it's cute and silly#and i feel like teddie def has a crush on yu in canon given. y'know. that one scene in golden-#also teddie probably has crushes on all the investigation team (other than yosuke ofc that's his brother) i feel like-#hecking pan icon

If that rumored Medievil movie does happen and they do the typical hire a big name actor to play the main character like say they got Tom Hiddleston to be Sir Dan.
The funniest thing they could do is to market the heck out of Tom Hiddleston being Dan, there’s countless interviews where he’s like “this is a dream come true” or “I really had to work hard to get into character”. Don’t even reveal or imply how Dan actually sounds like.
Then the movie comes out and he voices living Dan for about 6 minutes until he dies, comes back as a skeleton and does nothing but Dan’s iconic mumbling.
I can picture the animated film trailer now...
[sweeping shot of a grassy medieval countryside as a pan flute plays. Various animation logos pop up.]
Esteemed British narrator (v/o): Long ago, in the kingdom of Gallowmere, there lived a daring knight...
[Establishing shot of a man getting up out of bed with physical humor involved. The pan flute stops when he trips and falls, scattering furniture for a couple seconds as the only sounds are crashing effects before getting up and facing the camera. Close-up of Dan's face as he smiles, showing big goofy teeth.]
Esteemed British narrator (v/o): Named Dan.
[Smash cut to Sir Daniel training, with more physical humor punctuated by pained grunts and yells as triumphant music plays. It's a whole montage of him poorly swinging a sword, falling off a horse, and landing in mud puddles and horse manure. The kids in the audience are giggling.]
Tom Hiddleston (v/o): I just KNOW I'm destined to be somebody! I'm not going to go down in history as Sir Daniel the Goof or Sir Daniel the...Fall Down Things Guy!
[We're at the Battle of Gallowmere. The triumphant orchestra swells. Dan does his goofy smile that made the kids laugh as he stands in full armor in front of a bunch of other knights. Everyone is expecting him to trip and fall again]
Esteemed British narrator (v/o): There's just one problem...
[An arrow flies through the air and pierces Dan's helmet with a sickening crunch, causing him to fly backwards. The music stops as we focus on Dan's lifeless body on the ground.]
Esteemed British narrator (v/o): He's dead.
[sudden smash cut to the MediEvil logo]
Cover artist (v/o): BOOOOOOOONE TO BE WIIIIIIIIIILD....

(To the mun) I'm not quite sure what we could find in the next POTC movie, but the point is it's very hard to believe that Davy Jones will return to us just like that. I mean...Since Sparrow killed Jones taking off his own heart and made Will Turner the future boss of the Flying Dutchman getting his own heart and gaven to Elisabeth Swann...How could Jones be able to return to us? Just curiosity and confusion with the cannon of all POTC movies, just all.
Well talking about the next POTC movie is reaaally frustrating if we're talking about it being in the works. Disney is being an absolute dumpster fire at the minute and they're considering doing a reboot which doesn't have Johnny Depp in it. And whether people like it or not, he is the face of the franchise. People are always going to watch POTC because of Captain Jack Sparrow! If Disney does make that reboot which might be likely, then it's certainly not going to do well at the box office.
There is no pirates without Johnny Depp!
Now I know that wasn't entirely the focus of your question and I'll get back to it since it's Davy centric XD.
Dead Men Tell No Tales was a pretty bad pirates movie, with plot holes and all sorts of canon breaking such as Jack receiving the compass not from Tia Dalma/Calypso as she says in Dead Man's Chest, but from a dying Captain which still rightfully pisses me off!
But the movie did give us the Trident of Poseidon that held all curses of the sea but then was later broken by Henry Turner which released Will from his duty as Captain of the Flying Dutchman, and Henry got his dad back and he, Carina and Will reunited with Elizabeth.
(Course this raises a whole load of questions because Will no longer has a heart so I don't understand how he's still standing and plus this yet again pissed me off because Davy could have done that all along and he could have been freed? I DON'T KNOW DAMN YE DISNEY)
But at the end of the credits, just like the previous movies there is post-credit scene which reveals Davy entering Will and Elizabeth's home and dramatically limping towards their bed as if to strike them with his claw. Will wakes up with a start, figures it was a nightmare and falls back asleep. BUT! The camera pans down and reveals a puddle of water with a bunch of barnacles in them, so that must mean Davy was actually there but he disappeared for whatever reason.
My theory goes, Calypso resurrected him like she did with Captain Barbossa (POOR HECTOR HE DIED AGAIN GOD DAMN YOU DISNEY) for a purpose. She's the only character in the franchise that has actually brought back someone from the grave, and so she's a likely candidate for bringing back Jonesy. And also, they were in love so maybe she's in some way forgiven him for what he did.
Since all the curses were broken, maybe a certain curse holding back a gigantic monster even bigger than the kraken from the deep, released said monster and Davy needs to grudgingly team with Jack, Will, Elizabeth, Henry and Carina to take it down. Or heck, maybe Beckett's and Mercer's ghost comes back and starts stirring trouble on the seas, and a ghost Norrington helps the heroes because we also need James in there too.
I don't know, lots of theories are in my head but Disney is most likely not going to make another POTC movie that has Johnny and the iconic main cast again by the way things look at the moment. But it's nice to stay hopeful!
#[answered]#pirates of the caribbean#potc#johnny depp#jack sparrow#davy jones#bill nighy#hector barbossa#will turner#elizabeth swann#i really wish disney would friggin fix their bullcrap#theyre digging their own grave#a grave thats on fire XD#[mun answers]#probably not going to be around later on im exhausted#but ill definitely be more active tomorrow

Been thinking about this:David Lo Pan maybe John Carpenters most human villain
SoI recently rewatched my favorite John Carpenter film Big Trouble in Little China and I've been thinking about its main villain,David Lo Pan,a evil cursed sorcerer who has spent 2'000 years trying to find a woman with green eyes to marry to break his curse
The thing with John Carpenter ....He tends to prefer his villains to be either faceless or their motives unknown ,because thats scarier
You see it all the time in his films
Michael Myers is a masked killer
The Thing is a shapeshifter
The aliens in They Live are ghouls disguised as humans
Heck in Prince of Darkness the anti god is just green goo
Meanwhile Lo Pan is....An actual character. He has wants and desires that are understandable ,hes a guy craving not just power but to have flesh again .He also has a personality and levels ,as actor James Hong gives him a sense of humor ,and really plays into that sense of yearning and desire ,while still maintaining menace
Not saying this makes him a better villain (Though he is my favorite of Carpenters villains ),as the Thing and Michael Myers are rightfully iconic and their unknownness is WHY they are scary, just saying I really like the humanity of Lo Pan and he is an interesting departure from Carpenters usual view of villainy

BlackBerry (2023) Review
I have never owned a BlackBerry myself. Instead I had the enjoyment of having a Vodafone phone - a cheap rip-off that looked, felt and played like a BlackBerry only for less money. Turns out, I saved a heck of a lot as that phone lasted me all through my sixth-form and university days. Less can be said about the reliability of the BlackBerry evidently.
Plot: A company that toppled global giants before succumbing to the ruthlessly competitive forces of Silicon Valley. This is not a conventional tale of modern business failure by fraud and greed. The rise and fall of BlackBerry reveals the dangerous speed at which innovators race along the information superhighway.
We’ve had plenty of techy origin film come and go, and many good ones at that such as The Social Network and Steve Jobs, and even the recent Tetris lent itself more to be a solid commentary on the communist regime of the Soviet Union and a study into the legal drama behind the game rather than some cheesy parody featuring tetrominoes in the style of The Emoji Movie. So I went into BlackBerry with a very open mind, as even though I’m aware of the phone’s existence, I never really knew the story behind how this popular mobile device all of a sudden vanished from the public eye so quickly. Back in the 2000s this device was all the rave, and all the kids at school would go out of their way to persuade their parents to get them one so that they can show it off to their classmates as if they were some rich businessmen. Now however this phone is all but forgotten. I checked prior to writing this review and in fact you can still purchase some models from Amazon, so if you’re feeling strangely nostalgic about your school days, feel free to waste your money. Anyway, back to the movie...
BlackBerry is a perfectly acceptable history lesson. It’s very informative and plays out more so like a visual guide of a Wikipedia page. You’re given the detailed journey of how the company Research In Motion came to create such an iconic device, and then there eventual downfall. We’ve seen this kind of tale of fraud and greed many times before, however if you’ve enjoyed similar movies before, BlackBerry is an easy watch, and again, if you’ve ever been interested in the mobile phone’s backstory, you have it here loud and clear.
Main highlight of this film are the two central performances, both of whom are very much outside their comfort zones. It’s nice to see Jay Baruchel in a serious role, taking a break from training dragons, as Mike Lazaridis, the main creative mind behind the creation of the titular device. Baruchel is very good at portraying socially-awkward personas, however in previous films he did this for comedic purposes, however as Mike he manages to find the depth in the character as a tech genius who knows his craft and is being forced to speed run his creations when in reality he wants to take his time to create the best product. Glenn Howerton, who thus far has only been known as the narcissistic self-absorbed Dennis from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, is Jim Balsillie, the guy who takes over Mike’s company for his greedy means. Howerton definitely gets the more showy performance, and does a solid job at being constantly angry with everyone. Howerton also decided to go full bald for this role and you got to give the guy props for the dedication.
I’d say the primary negative I have for this film is its cinematography and direction. Director Matt Johnson evidently seems to have been inspired by Adam McKay’s The Big Short, as he chooses to have the camera repeatedly pan left and right quickly as if all the events are being captured by a hidden camera, however this effect of chaotic shaky-cam can come as very jarring and dizzying, and overall was very distracting. Characters would be having some serious discussion about technology yet I’d be busy wondering if the cameraman’s been spooked by Blair fricking Witch. But overall BlackBerry tells an interesting story behind the scenes of the phone drama, and if anything else I came out of it having learnt something. Kind of feels like being back at school when in class the teacher would stick some film on for educational purposes and then afterwards I may have learnt something, but have never had the motivation to want to see that movie again.
Overall score: 6/10

In response to how Hollywood race-bent April O’Neal... Take a good look at Dr. Baxter Stockman, who is an ORIGINAL CANONICALLY black character in the TMNT lore...
Baxter is a deep, fleshed out, relatable and iconic character not just in TMNT lore, but in general. If you want TMNT to have a black character, your wish was granted before you even thought of it. He’s right there! Heck, you could even reimagined him to have a redemption arc! I mean, why not?
And this, friends, is why race or “any” bending bugs me. It’s because great characters of the group you mean to represent get forgotten in favour of riding on the tail of success of established white Christian straight (usually) male ones.
I say, nuts to that. Baxter is not only a worthy enough black character. He’s a worthy character PERIOD. And so are the others.
Say NO to bending and YES to showcasing the existing.
Say NO to race bending April. Say YES to including “Badass” Stockman.
Say NO to any-bending. Say YES to giving the existing minority characters the spotlight at long last. They waited long enough.
PS: I am well aware of the debate over April having been originally conceptualized to be black. As someone who was there when she first came out, let me put the rumour to rest please... That fact is only semi-right. April O’Neal was named after one of the creator’s then beloved who was partially black, but her race was originally up in the air and leaned more towards being Japanese. She was like what Mr. Smithers in the Simpsons was when it first started; a character that was still in the process of being built. In other words, the original concept of April was... everything and nothing. However, once the creators figured her out, the definitive version of her is white with red hair. And as for that hairdo she originally had when she was still in the works...
It was the 80s. Back in the day, ALL women did their hair like that. Even my mom, who is white, did her hair like that. It was the style. I hope this clears things up.
PS part 2: Because it was brought up, I am well aware that Rise did the race swap first and had the audacity to include Baxter yet dumb him down. However, Rise in my opinion was not a good show and wrote everyone badly and offensively. Also, it was short lived for being so foolish. Me putting my foot down now is because this is a huge “strike three and now, you’re out”. Mutant Mayhem has the potential to be good, but it has specific glaring problems. Rise was an idea that just didn’t pan out. It was not worth taking offense over because it disrespected every character equally. April’s race swap there was just one of many. In way, that was Rise’s objective. To be silly, but it took it too far to the point where the show wasn’t even offensive. Just childish. I get that I don’t speak for everyone, but that was how I interpreted Rise. It was a parody that came and went.
#racebent#no more racebending#include original characters#black characters#baxter stockman#badass stockman#no more racewashing#representation#inclusive#no more lazy writing#no more fake progressiveness

Coincidental Disney Logo Trivia...
The current Disney logo celebrates the enterprise's 100th year of existence... It's a lovely, full-length intro full of neat stuff. A more ground-level tour than a pan down from a starry sky...
It first appeared, in full, before STRANGE WORLD in movie theaters this past autumn. They got the ball rolling early. The logo had also appeared - in cut-short form - in a handful of trailers at the time as well, like for the LITTLE MERMAID remake, ELEMENTAL, and the trailer for DISENCHANTED. D23 attendees were treated to it first before that...
STRANGE WORLD being the first film to bear the new logo, which will likely be used for another decade or so without the "100" next to "Disney", is curious... The film was a massive flop, and one that was largely left for dead by the company.
Wouldn't be the first time...
The first two pictures to introduce the iconic Walt Disney Pictures logo, that laid the groundwork for all logos thereafter, the very thing so many people associate with this company's movie library... Also flopped...
Those movies were... RETURN TO OZ and THE BLACK CAULDRON, both released a month apart from each other in the summer of 1985...
Believe it or not, the Disney studio never had a proper logo introduction for DECADES...
Early Disney cartoon shorts had title cards letting the audience know who the picture was coming from, which was par for the course for most shorts. Walt and Roy Disney had went through a few distributors during the late 1920s and 1930s, notably Celebrity Pictures, Columbia, and United Artists. When Walt was readying his first feature-length film, SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, he struck a long-term distribution deal with RKO Radio Pictures. A long-defunct company, but back then a recognizable movie giant, up there with the likes of Paramount, Universal, and 20th Century Fox.
Disney films typically began with an RKO title card, not RKO's actual animated logo sequence depicting a blinking radio tower over a spinning globe. The title card would be stylized to fit with the credits sequence of whatever movie it was. For example, in PINOCCHIO, the RKO logo is carved into wood. For DUMBO, it's a circus poster-looking graphic. And so on, and so forth.
Walt and Roy then broke off from RKO, launching their own distribution company Buena Vista in 1953. Many of the Disney films released from 1954 to 1961, that were not leftover RKO-contract movies and shorts that were released well after the two parties parted ways, opened the same way. A Buena Vista title card that was stylized to look like the opening credits of the respective movie... But by the early 1960s, most Disney movies just used a standard blue gradient logo. This title card's general design layout would be used all the way up until 1984.
"Walt Disney presents" for films made before Walt's passing, and "Walt Disney Productions" for posthumous films, would be the next title card you saw after an RKO or Buena Vista logo. Walt Disney Productions became "Walt Disney Pictures", quietly, in 1983. The first film to be released as a "Walt Disney Pictures" movie was NEVER CRY WOLF. In that film, which is unfortunately a hard one to find, the first thing you see is a bar with serif text saying "Walt Disney Pictures". A title card. No official logo just yet.
Heck, the home video end of things had a logo before the film studio themselves did! Two logos at that!
Disney didn't release a new feature film in 1984 that was under the Disney name. SPLASH and COUNTRY came out in 1984, those were the first two pictures under the company's Touchstone Pictures banner, a banner meant for more adult-oriented films. Then-CEO Ron Miller founded Touchstone, and he'd be replaced by Michael Eisner by the end of the year. Following Eisner's arrival to the company, the rebrand went into full swing... The studio was officially renamed Walt Disney Pictures, the self-distribution company was still Buena Vista, as would be mentioned in a movie's end credits.
So, a new logo was in order...
The logo's first appearance, in short-form, was before a theatrical trailer for THE BLACK CAULDRON that ran in late 1984 before the theatrical re-release of PINOCCHIO. It is unknown if the longer logo preceded PINOCCHIO's opening credits for that re-release, if it did, then that would make it the 1984 Walt Disney Pictures logo.
Anyways, the first film audiences saw it before was RETURN TO OZ... But in short form, with no music!
A month later, THE BLACK CAULDRON came to theaters. It opened with the full logo, with the full 'When You Wish Upon a Star'-inspired jingle that everyone and their brother's dog knows...
Again, two movies that flopped. In fact, all of Disney's mainline 1985 movie releases that weren't Touchstone movies... Just didn't cut it at the box office. These two movies, THE JOURNEY OF NATTY GANN, ONE MAGIC CHRISTMAS... It wouldn't be until the summer 1986 releases of THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE and FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR, two films bearing this logo that did well at the box office.
The revised version of this logo, with more digital-looking glowing light effects and animation, and the arch not overlapping with the "W" in "Walt"... First appeared before a test re-release of THE BLACK CAULDRON under the title TARAN AND THE MAGIC CAULDRON in January 1990, which didn't take off in the few cities it was screened in... Later, in July 1990, it accompanied a very successful re-release of THE JUNGLE BOOK. As for a "new" movie bearing the logo that did well? WHITE FANG, released in January 1991, did okay. It wouldn't be until BEAUTY AND THE BEAST later that year, though, in November... For a genuine big hit...
For this Disney 100 logo, it looks like LITTLE MERMAID will be the first box office success bearing this new logo. It's actually their first mainline Disney theatrical release since STRANGE WORLD... Everything else has been a Marvel movie (QUANTUMANIA, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3) or a 20th Century Studios/Searchlight movie (AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER, CHEVALIER).
Funnily enough, the first film to introduce the previous long-running CGI Disney castle logo?
Big hit. HUGE, record-breaking hit... That was PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST, from summer 2006...
Maybe when Disney makes a new logo to replace this one in, say, 2040-something... It'll be for a hit movie? I dunno, just something I noticed.
Logo stuff, ya know?

Went to the city today :DD (✨Adelaide, heck yeah✨)
Wrote a whole journal entry under the cut
This is a bit stupid but I kinda forgot how loud it can get in public, especially in the city. I'm really used to being a recluse, ngl.
I originally planned to take a picture of the"Mall's Balls", an art sculpture made by Bert Flugelman and one of Adelaide's iconic landmarks. Apparently its actual name is "The Spheres", which sounds... ominous.
Turns out we didn't go that far down the Rundle Mall street, so I took a picture of one of the pig sculptures instead. There's 4 of them in total. The art piece is called "A Day Out" and it was done by Marguerite Derricourt. All the pigs are really cute, I love them 🥺
Also, apparently there's a pigeon sculpture as well?? And I missed it?? I'll never recover from this ಥ_ಥ
Anyway, we checked out a few video-game and anime type stores (that's the main reason I went, to look at cool nerdy things and maybe buy something). Then, we headed over to the Pan-Asian district for lunch and browsed a bit.
Before we left, we got a drink from a bubble tea shop. Saw this really cute pigeon while waiting at the bus stop. They sat on the floor near us! My heart melted aaaa 😍
Here's the stuff I got: anime girl soda, 2 sticker sheets and 2 visual novels!
The bookstore we went to is super cool! It's called Greenlight Comics and almost all the books they sell are graphic novels!! I'm definitely going there again!
Also wanted to share the book blurbs in case anyone is interested :3
Yeah, that's it! If you've read this far, thank you! Here's a Miku figure I saw as a reward(?)

I don't believe in character agency. I believe in character favoritism and appeal. simply put what agency does Anything that's not in a genre peice with the hero we're supposed to root for actually have? heck I'll go a better one what Afebcy does link or Mario have that Zelda and peach do not?
Think very carefully now. you would be surprised
The real fact is it is about who's the focus of the tale. peach has no agency because she is the goal. Yeah obviously. but if the goal or the focus was on what's it like to be in captivity and the mind games and difficulty of being in a hostage situation, especially with royalty you still have a take. effectively this is all the Mario movie does. and it doesn't feel like it overdoes it with that. it's when they have her running around with a halberd as opposed to a frying PAN and a bunch of other things as if they don't have confidence that the audience will be on her side or view her as someone valuable unless she is always doing bad a** things outside of that situation. Triple on failing to use the hardship abs fun if Luigi suffering.
Same thing for Zelda who very often is the equivalent of the loser of a previous tale or someone who's going through her own thing while link follows an ordained script with few clues.
It really depends on the kind of story you're telling but one of the reasons I hate agency is because it's such a feminist talking point
It sours the water in terms of trying to have any meaningful conversation on how to characterize actions and how to create diversity and focus in a story.
I think the real thing you're complaining about is there's no female unless she is a love interest and given the absolute minimum of characterization to the point where there's not even a love plot line or story in the story it's just there to establish at best a goal or an aspect of someone's identity to the point where they are the equivalent of the iconic costume. Only whereas the shirt might reflect damage and aspects we always see of the hero with it and how they care for it .. the wife is a million Miles away and exists only with those qualities that would be reflective of the main character being a good fine mature worthwhile man for having one.
Only this ignores the fact most people and plenty of characters are only defined by their attachment and reflection off of other characters of social positions or circumstances
You can even play with this as a point and still make an interesting character
see the internet going crazy about Senshi
Who from introduction is practically a mascot/plot device! now they do insert some reasons how things work and obviously the broad aspects of the character were always decided. but they were pretty easy to figure out from the get go.
namely he's the equivalent of a hermit/guy who's been lost in the wilderness or badlands probably do the tragedy of some sort and has gone a little crazy but has a hyperfocus on survivalist or cooking and what have you
it's just that he's a pedophile (damn you autocorrect abs speech to text) and he's more of a side/mental character who's given a slight feminine or maternal touch. Which makes things interesting and they also make sure to zag where others might zig where with fantasy cliches on dwarves
such as getting along with orks and not Being all that much about mining weapons and gear ir honor/reputation luneage or wealth. heck aside from the axe probably will be antithetical to a stereotypical dwarf. who even TV tropes notes suffers from almost always same even within the variation.
Hector delicious in Dungeon is practically filled with characters who f****** lack agency despite the fact they're always making choices and decisions and interesting or useful to storytelling
Nothing Marcel does is going to make her dream come true because the entire physics of the world is set up to make it failure while forcing it on her
It doesn't matter what the party does in order to get to Fallon because the circumstances have made it so she's a doornail
How did toshiro have agency?
No one cares about this agency thing unless it's a backdoor to talk about feminism and school audiences about how genre and fan stuff isn't doing women right
this is often the case because they're just not telling stories where a female character or personal concefns would be Central or important or make their relationship with another character important or talking about a woman's issue in a way or circumstance that will reflect their interest
However if you include these elements suddenly none of these agency complaints are involved.
see all the millions basically lapped up Stephen universe the gems and especially pearl because they made sure to include things aesthetic or alluding to stuff females feel. like insecurity about sexuality, neuroticism, and a bunch of other things despite the fact that the females very often lack agency or fail to be adults in ways that are absolutely preposterous
Pearl does not know what a school is!!!
She knows what traffic laws are. can rebuild a car and a build spaceship and hack new tech and is aware of history and has watched a city grown up around her but she does not know what a school is!!!
Fusion cuisine is practically a laundry list of these characters do not have agency. they are mere puppets of the plot
But people like that 1 because naturally it's about queer families trying to deal with the frustration of integrating with people who don't know so it's not offending the agency of the characters
This is why I hate agency I think it's a deeply insensitive form of criticism or analysis that never actually amounts to anything in actual practical terms of reading entertainment or creativity
Character Agency
Your characters should have agency. That means they have the power to influence what’s happening around them. We talked a bit about agency last time, revolving around how many female characters get agency stripped away from them. But overall, agency is important for any character to make them active participants in their own stories and feel necessary to the plot.
So here’s how you enable your characters agency:
1. They make active decisions
Okay this is the obvious one in theory, but still manages to sneak by in stories undetected. An active character with agency makes things happen through their decisions, instead of just their reactions. Take these two examples of a scene plan:
John is walking home when he is caught by a sudden storm. Looking to hide from the rain, he ducks under the cover of a bus shelter. Inside is Mya, and they strike up a conversation about their shared sucky situation.
Vs.
John is walking home when he is caught by a sudden storm. Luckily he brought an umbrella in his bag, and draws it out. Then, he sees Mya getting drenched by the rain ahead of him. He jogs to her, offering to share the umbrella. They strike up a conversation.
In the second example John isn’t just reacting but making a choice that’s changed something in the world. He may just happen to run into Mya, but it was his decision to run up to her, to offer her his umbrella. This action is a great indicator of his personality—he’s kind, trusting, and thoughtful even towards strangers.
That’s the most important part. A character who just reacts to everything doesn’t show off any personality, whereas action lets you demonstrate who your character is at their core (especially in difficult situations that call for difficult decisions).
2. Their actions have consequences
Similarly, the decisions your active character makes aren’t really decisions if they don’t impact any part of their world. For good or for bad, every decision your character makes should have a consequence. This could be shown through their relationships with others, their environment, or even their own mental, physical, or spiritual state.
If we’re going from the example above, John sharing his umbrella with Mya maybe starts their friendship, but her jealous, toxic boyfriend sees them through his window, making her and now his life difficult.
It’s a decision that has multiple consequences throughout his life—a new friendship, and also a new enemy. And Mya is also facing consequences—from her decision to walk with him, and his decision to offer her the umbrella.
Make sense? How do you ensure your character has agency?

Indie 5-0 with Best Not Broken
Best Not Broken is not to be slept on. This Boston band brings back all the nostalgic feelings we thrive on, both lyrically and sonically.
Their newest song, "I Don't Belong," is a pop rock tribute to those who didn't quite fit in in high school and dreamed of being a rock star. While the song oozes of the 80's and 90's replete with references to Walkmans, 90210, sideburns and mullets, and pegged jeans, the music video brings all that to life with bright colors, big hair, and teen angst.
The band, and their music, bring a fun and playful energy to the industry that everyone needs. We got a chance to speak with the band about their music and their career, so without further ado, let's dive in:
What was the inspiration behind your new song "I Don't Belong"?
This song started years ago with a little vocal melody that wound up being the verse. The only problem was we never had any lyrics for it that seemed to stick. Somewhere along the way, we committed to finishing it and some other pieces started coming together. The second piece was the “can I get a“ pre-chorus that struck me as memorable and tempting in that there are so many things that one might scream that refrain about. It started with jokes about fast food in the studio (“can I get a…cheeseburger!”, etc.) but when the chorus (“ I don’t belong“) started to shape up, the pre-chorus took a new meaning. We were then on the hunt for a concept that fit those pieces. Knowing the melody and pre-chorus had a lighthearted vibe, I set off in search of something with a little humor but an authentic backstory to it. Then one night, while lying awake in bed, for some reason I started thinking about some of my ridiculous high school experiences, and all of a sudden the ideas started to flow. It wasn’t long before the story of a high school wanna-be-rockstar had kind of written itself. It’s really a celebration of all the things we look back on from high school and say “OMG, I can’t believe I did that!“ and how at some point, we all didn’t quite fit in somewhere. And ultimately how we start out with grandiose plans that may or may not pan out, but those of us that are fortunate enough, end up with a life that’s pretty darn good even though we may not have hit our target!
Your video is fun and cleverly ties your lyrics and music together. What was the best part of putting the video together?
By far, the best part of putting the video together was reddiscovering some of the outfits and other time pieces (Rubik‘s cube, boombox, walkman, etc.) from the 90s and even the 80s to make this video feel like it was set back then. Not sure if we hit the mark, but it was certainly fun trying! The second thing was watching Carlo (our drummer) ride a miniature bike around the school. He definitely would’ve spent much time in the principals office!
You've performed with and opened for many iconic musicians over your career thus far. Is there a show that stands out the most? Why?
We’ve been very fortunate in that our music seems to have enough commonality with an array of popular artists that we’ve picked up some pretty cool gigs with musicians we all know in love. Those experiences are all special in their own way, but the one that probably stands out the most is the very first time we were asked to share the stage with a national headliner in front of thousands of people.. It was Pat Benatar. At first we said “that doesn’t really seem like our audience.. we may not be a good fit.” And then we said, “what the heck are we thinking, there will be thousands of people… we gotta give it a shot!” At that point we were mostly used to playing in the garage and after a quick sound check, and looking at thousands of seats in the theater, and people starting to filter in, I just remember walking out to my car 10 minutes before we were supposed to go on thinking “oh my God, how am I going to do this!” Major mental peptalk! But we got through it and they even had us back for another show!
If you could perform with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
The Beatles. For every reason you can imagine, and also because ultimately their songwriting and personality has many fingers in what Best Not Broken is today.
What has been the most rewarding aspect about performing and connecting with your audiences?
Ultimately it is just that. Connecting with people. It’s like having hundreds of great conversations all the same time. With a beat! When everybody is feeling the same energy, living the same lyrics, dancing and smiling together, it’s really a gift that we feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in.

"He may share basic traits with og Eggman but his way of presenting them is much different and I don't feel he captures the essence. He's still as carrey like as possible in design and presentation, even in the second movie."
That is one similar problem I do have with how Ben Schwartz portrays Sonic. Absolutely no ill-will against him at all, but there is one question I wanna know: Why does he feel the need to leach himself onto iconic blue 90s characters who already had their own stories and personalities (Leonardo from Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Dewey Duck from Ducktales 2017 reboot and Sonic from the movies of course) when he's already a successful improv performer with his own shows where he can freely make as many jokes to his heart's content and when he can play new original characters in original TV shows (Jean Ralphio from Parks and Rec, Clyde Oberholt from House of Lies and F Tony Scarapiducci from Space Force)? Like go watch ROTTMNT Leo audio switches with Ben's other voices made by Galaxy_Cat on YouTube to see how those characters pretty much share the same vibes and personalities. XD
I remember reading about an interview Ben had about his obsession with video games and arcades and there was a part where he was called "An urban Peter Pan, he specializes in portraying young men who can’t or won’t grow up" and now I thought to myself "Huh... No wonder his versions of those iconic blue 90s characters whom he turned into his personal self-inserts won't grow up and stop making pop-culture jokes every time they open their mouths, (I know the Sonic sequel talked about him still needing growing up to do but... Ehh... We'll believe it when we see it for ourselves) because the voice actor is like that! Heck even his character from House of Lies has more serious moments than the self-insert hedgehog who's only Sonic by name despite him supposingly having bigger childhood trauma. Voicing Sonic was apparently his dream come true because he remembers when he played the first Sonic games when he was a wee lil lad, meaning his reason for turning Sonic into less like the Sonic we knew and loved and more into his hedgehog self-insert is basically "Cuz mah childhood, mah nostalgia lol" and I get it, I'm sure we all have some fond nostalgic memories of our childhood and all, but I also can't help but wonder to myself: Has this dude ever played Sonic games beyond the Genesis trilogy? I hope so cuz the Genesis Trilogy is seriously overrated nowadays! >.< (No ill-will for the classic aspects or those to like it either but it really does get more spotlight compared to the other Sonic aspects)
Not sure if you got my other ask before but I want to try again cause I feel like you might understand me, I really dislike the Sonic Movie, since not only do I feel it hardly relates to the games but I just dont like fart jokes and generic road trip hollywood movies but it bothers me to see MovieEggman being praised and having seen people saying he's the best version of Eggman?? that's not Eggman that's Jim Carrey
Yeah I honestly feel the same way, I think it's pretty generic and predictable as any live action movie where a human finds some animated little guy and then they have to go on an adventure that usually involves a road trip to escape/stop the bad guy. That doesn't appeal to me in any movie, so making it Sonic still doesn't make me any more of a fan.
If people don't mind the tropes and like the movie then I'm happy for them but personally I already knew it wasn't going to be my thing years back, when we found out it was going to be live action. I really don't think this series works in a live action setting, the Sonic universe and characters are so colorful, beautiful, and cartoony fun in a way that can't be matched in real life.
Also yeah to each their own as long as they aren't hating on other versions/designs but I really don't think jimbotnik is the best version, especially because I don't like him at all lol. He may share basic traits with og Eggman but his way of presenting them is much different and I don't feel he captures the essence. He's still as carrey like as possible in design and presentation, even in the second movie.
And yeah people have told me to be grateful because the movie has made more people like Eggman but there's thousands of people that only like jimbotnik exclusively and even hate on the og Eggman. And jimbotnik already has so much more fans, praise, fan art, fanfics, gay shipping, and ns4w than og Eggman has had in 30 years and ngl it stings.
I've seen a bunch of jimbotnik fans dissing og Eggman by calling him 'ugly' for his various features and also being fatphobic. It still bothers me that any other version didn't become anywhere near as popular as jimbotnik, no version of the character was so immensely popular and praised than the one version that's skinny and considered conventionally attractive. I know that plays a big undeniable part in it.
And him being more like carrey and less like Eggman was intentional, even in the second movie. They're using a big Hollywood actor and they know keeping his likeness in appearance and actions more than Eggman would make him appeal to more people. And it works because I've seen a lot of people praising it for being 'classic carrey' and a lot of the people that find him hot only think so because it's carrey. (which I really don't get sorry fjsjfnskgnskg)
I'm really surprised by how different jimbotnik both looks and acts than og Eggman, it's just wild to me that it's possible to like a version of the character for the exact opposite reasons than one does with og Eggman because they're so vastly different in a number of ways. I still feel like jimbotnik, especially with his look throughout most of the first movie, could've been a completely different character.
And then people assume I must like jimbotnik too because I've always liked og Eggman, but he doesn't really have anything in common with what I admire og Eggman for in design, personality, and actions. Even more so when it comes to attraction as well, as og Eggman caters to my exact type in men in multiple ways while jimbotnik is very far from all that for me lol. It's super awkward when people think eggfucker means I wanna fuck carrey... he's not even an egg lol

I'm just going to say it, I know it probably wasn't ~intended~ but it is very funny to read the AG books and notice just how clearly sapphic a lot of the girls are. Even if I don't ship them with their best friend (if they had one). But Samantha? Lesbian. Kit? Bi with a preference for girls and in LOVE with Ruthie (who is bi/pan and also in love with her). Addy? She and Sarah Moore are married. The entirety of Kirsten and Singing Bird was sapphic as heck. And don't even get me started on Lesbian Icon Molly McIntire: Emily, her crush on her teacher, lowkey all of the complicated feelings she has about Alison Hargate, Molly is just a ball of lesbian energy. And of course there's Felicity and Elizabeth, who are in love. And those are just the books I've read.
Although, to be fair, the least sapphic feeling ones to me at this point with the material I've seen and read are Rebecca and Josefina. There's not enough conclusive evidence either way haha.

OUAT Thoughts Pt.63--Episodes 18-19
I have watched through S6E19; spoilers DNI. Also, spoiler warning for anyone further behind than I am.
—I still don’t think I quite like Zelena, but her giving up her magic to delay the Black Fairy’s plan was excellent. I respect her for it.
—I love Snow’s attitude about Emma’s wedding. Any place would be special if it was where Emma and Hook got married, she’s right.
—I also love David’s attitude, even if it was mostly pretense. Emma is a princess, and more importantly she’s his daughter. Of course he wants the best for her.
—Operation Best Man 🥰 I am so soft for Hook.
—I know they’re trying to draw parallels between the Black Fairy and Rumple, but I really see more of a connection between the Black Fairy and the Charmings. The Charmings had several chances to renounce Emma’s destiny as the Savior and just be a normal family with her. Every time they chose the greater good and sacrificed both their chances of having her and her chances of having them. Her being the Savior was more important and they recognized it. The Black Fairy had a chance to give up her own power to not only stay with her son, but also to allow him to be a Savior, and she chose wrong. She chose her own selfish interests over him being a Savior, and because of that she lost him.
—I don’t give a heck what they say about the Black Fairy, I will hate her until the end of time. She not only made the selfish choice and cut Rumple’s destiny, she’s also, I don’t know, had THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN AS HER SLAVES? Like, there is no angle, no initial maternal instincts that could ever redeem her from that.
—I hate Rumple’s father extra now, too! Imagine naming your child out of hatred. That’s next-level awful.
—Tiger Lily’s dress was equal parts pretty and ugly. There was a kind of frilly thing that I don’t like, but the skirt was gorgeous.
—And Blue’s fairy dress was actually pretty for once. I hate her usual outfit, but the longer, fuller skirt on this one, and the lace added to the bodice, was beautiful.
—There’s something kinda ironic about Tiger Lily being the fairy godmother of Peter Pan’s child.
—Okay, maybe I like Zelena a little bit. Hitting the Black Fairy with her car was iconic.
—Also, I love that Regina found her a car that’s not only green, but also built like a tank. Perfect for Zelena’s terrible driving skills.
—Regina asking Zelena to get Henry to New York if things go wrong is important. It shows immense growth for Regina, since being angry and cold with Zelena because of Robin’s death, and for Zelena, because she’s become the kind of person Regina would trust with her child. And for Regina, who just about lives for her kid, that’s a big step. I kind of like them getting to be sisters again. (Although any blathering about ‘being the sisters their mother wanted them to be’ is a load of crap. She didn’t give a damn about them as people, much less as sisters.)
—Once again, I must don the dunce cap. I believed Rumple would get to be the hero. Foolish of me, really.
—But you know, if my mom had A) picked her power over a good destiny for me, and B) made herself into the person who was fated to kill me, I’d be mad as hell. NO way I’d align myself with that kinda person.
—Emma’s definitely going to die. Maybe one of her parents, too, just to liven things up. Who knows, maybe Emma and Hook will die together at the altar!
