How are you doing
What’s your favorite episode of Heartstopper
Hey Anon!
I'm doing alright, though I wish I weren't constantly dizzy these recent times. Thanks for checking on me. I hope you're doing okay!
As I mentioned in my reply to the last ask, my favourites related to Heartstopper change all the time, so here's the snapshot answer:
My in-this-moment favourite episode of Heartstopper is the very first one, S1E1: Meet.
The Ben parts of the episode are always hard, but I absolutely adore watching Nick's nervousness and his crush on Charlie developing. (Honestly, at this point I think I could teach a Masterclass on Interpreting Nick Nelson -- in general, but especially in episode 1.) I also love watching Charlie's infatuation-at-first-sight progress and change as his friendship with Nick develops.
---------------
Have some giant gifs of cuteness from S1E1 (I worked very hard to restrain myself):
(The file name of this gif ⬇️ is "Nick being a little besotted")
---------------
For an overall summary of my "my favourite episode of Heartstopper" thoughts, see Joe's answer to a very similar question (and Kit's response to it) here.
Thanks for asking, Anon!
#Nick is so adorable with his burgeoning crush in S1E1 that it makes my heart feel like it's bursting#Charlie's smiles and being flustered and his bravery and when he just 🫠 are also heart-burst inducing#I basically can't watch S1E1 and pay proper attention to both of them - I have to pick one - because otherwise the cuteness is overwhelming#But really I don't have a consistent favourite episode#I love them all very much for many different reasons#ask#heartstopper#charlie spring#nick nelson#nick & charlie#heartstopper s1#nick x charlie#narlie#heartstopper netflix

There’s so much about Heartstopper Season 3 that I LOVE. Obviously Nick and Charlie’s relationship growth is beautiful, and Charlie’s mental health stuff is SO IMPORTANT, and I was SOBBING at Episode 4. HOWEVER. Breakdown of my favourite parts / storylines:
1. Darcy’s exploration of pronouns and gender identity. Seeing them start leaning more masc, cutting their hair, using they/them pronouns, and then coming out to Tara as non-binary?? WONDERFUL. As someone who recently came out as genderqueer (with a fairly similar path as Darcy actually) this made me so emotional and so happy for them and the representation.
2. Isaac. My baby. Everything about him is so wonderful and I just want to wrap him in the biggest hug ever. His coming out scenes (both his one to Charlie and to the Paris Gang) were beautiful. His boundaries in refusing to fill in the gaps for his friends is so admirable, as when you’re outside the ‘mainstream’ queer labels it can become such a tiresome ordeal having to explain your identity to others when they aren’t putting in the work to look it up. I’m SO GLAD he got these moments and he’s such a ray of sunshine. Him being the only one to see that something was wrong with Charlie hurt me deeply but it made me love him even more. Also seeing his cheeky side when it comes to Charlie’s sex life is peak aro/ace romance obsessed behavior.
3. Michael Holden my beloved. Darragh’s portrayal of him is everything - he’s so funny, awkward, and optimistic in every single scene and I just adore him. All of his interactions with Charlie made me fall in love with him even more, and they all just felt so RIGHT. His and Tori’s relationship is wonderful.
4. Tori being the best most beautiful big sister. She has so much love in her but she’s so afraid of letting people in and see her being vulnerable. Her love and anxiety for Charlie is so immense, but she does what she can even when her heart is breaking. I adore her and I’m so looking forward to seeing even more of her in the next season.
5. Nick interacting with Elle, Tara and Imogen on the road trip!!! I love seeing Nick integrate more with that friend group, but allowing him to have those moments of gossip and banter with the girls is beautiful, especially as he’d said previously how he didn’t talk about the deeper stuff with his other friends. Having the girls encourage him to talk - especially Elle causing chaos - was *chefs kiss*.
6. Tao and Nick hugging!!!
7. Charlie, Tao and Isaac’s friendship! I adore seeing them be super huggy and telling each other how much they love each other. Healthy friendships for the win!! No toxic masculinity here!!
8. Tao and Elle’s relationship & his utter adoration of her. The scene where he showed her the video he made of her was so emotionally raw and beautiful and UGH IM OBSESSED
9. Mr Farouk and Mr Ajayi’s soft moments UGH I LOVE THEM. Mr F is one of my fave TV teachers - the way he tells Charlie that he could help so many younger students and you can just tell how much he needed queer rep when was younger!! Ugh I adore these two so much.

my favourite thing about season 2 hands down was watching them bring darcy’s storyline to life and it really highlights what heartstopper as a comic-book-turned-television-show does so so well, which is encompass different forms of queer trauma/struggle
this season focused a lot on nick’s journey with coming out, the steps forwards and backwards he takes. it also shows him dealing with actual homophobic sentiments directed at him in his own home for the first time (can I get a good ol’ FUCK david nelson up in here? thank you!) which he has to learn to handle if he wants to come out sadly. and gaining that strength to step forward into the public eye and even just the point of having to actively own and protect your identity is definitely a valid struggle and anxiety-inducing thing, as we all see.
charlie’s trauma is also explored, though it takes to the end of season/vol 2 to get us there, in that spot where he opens up about it. the eating problems is definitely the red flag that consistently and subtly pops up throughout the season, but we don’t get that full unravelling of the impact it’s had on him until the last episode. he got outed and bullied at school at an age where social acceptance and community is so integral to your self-esteem. and he hasn’t developed healthy coping mechanisms to deal with the lasting impacts of it.
but darcy’s trauma and struggle weighed on my heart so much this season too, because not only is kizzy just a phenomenal actor but also because it provided a whole other angle of trauma that charlie and nick haven’t quite been through: the trauma of homophobia from a parent. like, it is so crushing to learn that the one person who is supposed to love you unconditionally just… doesn’t. nick has his mum, and charlie has tori as a protector and supporter, and his parents too in their very misguided way. they both have at least one family figure in the household that embraces them and, at the very least, will defend them. but darcy doesn’t, and her friends are her only support system. which doesn’t make her struggles any worse or better than nick’s or charlie’s, but it just brings a different angle into how she interacts with the group and I loved getting to watch her finally be able to open up.
I could also go into ben, how he represents a fourth sort of struggle which is when queer repression and internalized homophobia take a toll on your moral character, but instead I just want to wrap up by saying that as much as heartstopper represents the varying ways in which queer struggles impact your life, it does so thricefold in representing the different ways in which queerness and queer community heal you, making life more vibrant and fun and peaceful.
so… yeah. I’m not emotional you are.

There aren't enough sapphic tv shows. And when we do get sapphic shows, they end in tragedy. Please give me a sapphic show that is super popular and has a happy ending.
We had Killing Eve, and Orange is the New Black, but those aren't exactly happy shows with brilliant endings. I love Yellowjackets, but again, the tragedy. The San Junipero episode of Black Mirror is one of my favourite pieces of sapphic media, but it's just one episode. We don't get enough time with the characters. One Day at a Time was a good show, but it was cancelled way too soon. The L Word is very sex-focused (which is fine, but not really what I'm looking for), and again, it's not exactly the happiest of shows.
When it comes to shows with queer rep, the most popular ships are achillean (think Heartstopper, Good Omens, Sex Education, Dead Boy Detectives, Our Flag Means Death, and so on) which is fine, but as a lesbian, I want more from queer media. Heartstopper literally has a lesbian couple, but they aren't given enough screen time (in my personal opinion).
If anyone knows of any sapphic shows that don't end tragically and actually have a fandom, please let me know.

HEARTSTOPPER SPOILERS
Obviously heartstopper was amazing as usual but i really wish the season had been longer, i really feel like we didn’t get the time to focus on anything but charlie
Obviously his story is so important and im glad they told it so well but i feel like even nick was pushed to the background a little, i know we had a few moments where other characters told him it was okay if he was finding it hard but it really didnt feel like we got the chance to explore that
Im also kinda bummed we didnt see more of the side characters. Somehow tao has skyrocketed it to being one of my favourite characters now so that was cool but wish we had have seen more. I really wish we could have seen more of tori and what she was going through and maybe see her and nick interact, i feel like shes a fan favourite but yet she has so little screen time. Its great to see isacc telling people hes aro ace and im happy for him but i still have no idea who he is besides someone who likes reading. And i feel like we got all tell and no show with darcy coming out as non-binary and imogen as a lesbian?. And thats without even mentioning half the characters
I just really wish Netflix would bring back 20 episode seasons so that we could properly explore all the characters

What’s your favourite scene in all of Heartstopper?
THIS WAS SO HARD BECAUSE I HAVE TWO FAVOURITE SCENES.
This is going to be in detail but I promise I have a point
But anyways throughout the entire show, my favourite scene was in season 2, episode 8.
Tao and nick are sat down and they talk about the passing of tao's father. This seems to be the first proper time they feel like they can confide in eachother. It's fairly obvious tao doesn't open up much and it's beautiful he felt safe enough to do so to nick.
Nick in return opens up to tao about charlie.
Tao mentions charlie never really talked much about how the bullying affected him.
AND THE LOOK, as he realises if charlie didn't tell tao (his best friend) then he hasn't opened up to anybody about it and has kept all his feelings to himself.
You could tell by his face that the moment he realised, a wave of fear and panic came over his face and it's such an underrated scene.
Sorry I rambled on I just think this scene was so beautiful and kit did his role so much justice in this scene
Thankyou for the ask :)

Talk about commitment. I've had this lil tradition of reading the comics alongside the show for the past two years now. Episode 5 even had me pulling out This Winter this time, and I absolutely loved that🥹🥹 it's my favourite book of the entire heartstopper series xx
Also. DETAILS?!?!?! Lord I love Alice and the team for that.

Admiring the Art
Pairing: Marc Spector x reader
Word Count: 700+
Summary: spending an afternoon admiring art with Marc
Warnings/tags: fluff, little tiny 🤏🏻 smidge of insecure!marc
a/n: yes this was inspired by one of the new heartstopper episodes
“How am I supposed to admire all this art when you’re the most beautiful thing here?” Your head whips around to the sound of Marc’s voice, a giant grin forming as his words sink in. He’s stood just an arm's length away looking at you with a slight tilt of his head.
“Shush,” you reach your hand out to him which he takes and he steps up next to you. Marc smiles down at you, his eyes taking a moment to look over your face. You scrunch your nose and that makes a quiet chuckle escape him. Turning back to the painting you’d been admiring, you lean your head on his shoulder, wrapping your free arm around his while your hands stay intertwined. For a few minutes, you both just stay like that observing the art and trying to look like you know what you’re doing.
“It’s beautiful,” you comment quietly.
“You’re beautiful.”
“Stoooppp,” your cheeks grow hot at the compliment.
“It’s just the truth.” Marc’s hand squeezes yours before his thumb starts comfortingly brushing back and forth.
Happily, you both move around the gallery’s exhibits hand in hand. Each time you stop Marc lets you lean your head on his shoulder and he continues to move his thumb against your hand. It’s a perfectly quiet way to spend your afternoon.
“Are you having fun?” Marc whispers and when you crane your neck back to glance at him you see he’s already looking down at you.
“Of course,” you smile casually before looking back to the art. There’s a beat of silence before Marc speaks again.
“I-I mean,” when you look up at him again his face has a more serious look to it and it makes you stand up a bit straighter, “are you having a good time… with me?”
“Yes, of course!” You pull your hand from his so you can wrap your arms around his waist, and instinctively Marc’s arm hooks around your shoulders. His eyes won’t meet yours and your heart aches at the thought he’d ever doubt you were having a good time with him. “I am having the best time with you. You are perfect, Marc Spector.”
You smile when you see him playfully roll his eyes but he can’t hide the way his lips curve upwards.
“I’m serious, this whole trip has been perfect and getting to spend time with each of you has been really important to me.”
“Yeah, okay.” His hand rubs the top of your arm and he keeps his eyes looking forward. You know Marc would do anything to stop any conversation where he’s the one getting complimented but you also know he craves the validation that he’s good enough.
“You really are perfect, you know that right?” Your arms squeeze around his torso to make sure you’ve got his attention, “the most perfect.” You raise yourself up onto your tiptoes to plant a delicate kiss on his jaw and that’s the thing that makes him finally look at you.
“Stop.” He’s not serious at all, the smile on his face gives that much away.
“It’s just the truth, Marc.” You shrug your shoulders as a cheeky grin makes its way onto your face. Marc catches the way you repeat his own words back to him and he just shakes his head at you.
“You know,” quietly you whisper jokingly looking around to make sure there’s no one close by, “don’t tell the other two but you’re my favourite.” Marc instantly chuckles and the sound only causes your smile to stretch.
“I know that you say that to all of us.” It’s your turn to giggle now and Marc can’t help the overwhelming urge to just kiss you. One quick peck turns into two and the third is a little longer then neither of you pull away, happy to stay close enough to almost kiss for just a second. Marc quickly shifts to plant a kiss on your cheek before pulling you into a tight hug. You instantly return the hug, arms squeezing tightly around him while he sways you side to side. You feel his lips press against the top of your head, his grip on you loosening in sync with yours.
“Come on, Steven’s bugging me about an exhibit he wants to see.”

Finally watched the third season of Heartstopper and man, I kinda forgot how much I loved this story. To be honest I didn't love the series when I first watched seasons 1 and 2, I mean it was cute but it just didn't hit as much as the comics. But season three did hit, a lot. Even though I do miss Aled in the series because he's one of my favourite characters ever (even if he's just a side character in the Heartstopper comics) I do like Isaac and his character arc too because DAMN. WE. NEED. AROACE. REPRESENTATION. I need that now more than ever (especially since my best friend and another friend of ours have come out as a couple and have apparently been dating for five months a few days ago which has jumbled me up a bit) (I do hope that we get a Loveless adaptation someday too though because that's probably my favourite novel from the Osemanverse and it's helped me realising that I'm aroace). I also love me more nonbinary rep with Darcy even if it isn't something that was featured in the comics because really, I don't think that not fully fitting into the gender binary is that uncommon. Tao and Elle have my heart as well!!! And I'm really praying for a Solitaire adaptation too because Michael is really well cast in my opinion, even if he only appeared a few times. Everyone in the cast is great, really. Overall, the thing I love the most about it in comparison to the novels is that we get much more focus on the characters other than Nick and Charlie and ultimately understand them all better. And it's really impressive how they covered the span of about a year in eight episodes and it still felt natural and not forced somehow. I know that the reality shown in Heartstopper is a bit too pure to be realistic, but it still does teach many important things and anyways, we queers deserve to have such full, multidimensional stories written about us. And honestly, it's not like the writing in many of the shows about straight relationships feels realistic either. Anyways, it's late, I just felt like rambling for a bit, thank you for everything Alice :)

If you had to choose one gif for S1 and one for S2 as your favourites, which would you choose?
First, let me just say,
which I mean just as jokingly as Tao does here. Asking me to choose though!
Second, choosing gifs is such an interesting question because it's not favourite moment or favourite face or favourite scene or favourite...anything else, and I haven't really thought about favourite gifs.
Third, my favourites for any of the things related to Heartstopper shift very frequently, so I'll give the ones that are coming to mind in this instance and it can serve as a snapshot of this particular point in time (because 5 minutes from now it might be different).
So to finally answer the question..
Season 1 gif (from episode 1):
Look at Charlie's sigh and melt at the end there. So adorable.
Season 2 gif (from episode 8):
I continue to wish this were Nick hiding behind the couch instead of Darcy because it would be even funnier, but this gif still brings me joy.
Thanks for asking, Anon!
#I didn't intentionally choose gifs from the beginning and the current end but I like that it worked out that way#I almost picked a gif of N&C's cheek twitches during the big convo at the end of S2E8 and that would've been even more of a bookending gif#but oh well! Instead we have the great#darcy olsson#👀#heartstopper#ask#tao xu#charlie spring#nick & charlie#nick nelson#heartstopper netflix

THIS STILL FROM SEASON 2 IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE IMOHAR MOMENTS AND NOBODY EVER MENTIONS IT
- the way Sahar is looking at Ben after Imogen has just confronted him???!!!! so ‘fall in love with a girl’ by Cavetown coded!!
“That boy, let him go
Lights are on, but no one's home
Enough's enough, find your pearl
And fall in love with a girl”
- COLOUR! Of course, we all obviously know the significance of this in heartstopper
Sahar is wearing white and orange and Imogen is wearing predominantly light and dark pink- these colours all correlate with the lesbian flag. It could perhaps be a hint towards Imogen discovering her lesbianism in season 3.
- this is also Sahar and Imogen’s first major scene together, during/after Imogen’s breaking up with Ben.
This is interesting as we discover in Season 2 Episode 6 at Tara’s birthday party that Sahar and Imogen stopped being friends the previous year due to Imogen getting a boyfriend, so her breaking up with her boyfriend here ( with Sahar sitting beside her!!) feels very full-circle and perhaps symbolises a new beginning for Imogen, and her relationship with Sahar ( comphet discovery and self-acceptance?)
- it also seems to be implied here that Sahar and Imogen still aren’t exactly friends so Sahar appearing so disgruntled is something I found interesting!
In her ‘Permanent Rain Press’ interview, Leila Khan spoke about how she believes that Imogen and Sahar’s falling out was due to Sahar feeling that Imogen was being dishonest with her. However, in this scene, Imogen speaks to Ben truthfully for the first time and actually advocates for herself. Sahar is an outspoken, confident individual. So her seeing this quality within Imogen when she struggled to see it before implies that this is the beginning of the mending of their relationship with one another, which is also evidenced within various scenes throughout the remainder of the season.
This probably doesn’t make any sense/ is incorrect but they are my current hyperfixation and I had to information dump about it somewhere as I’ve analysed their scenes together way too much. And of course, if anyone else has ideas, please do comment them! :)
