Book Shout-outs for Pride Month #1:

Ever wanted a series of lesbian superhero romances, all stand-alone, but set in the same universe and building off of each other (think Phase 1 MCU)?

Hearts of Heroes series by Molly J. Bragg. They're more romance than superheroes, but once you know what to expect it's GREAT.

Scatter is about a US Deputy Marshal who gets promoted to work with the team around the superhero Focus. From the first moment on, there is something strange between her and Focus, but only when she accidentally time travels back to the early 90's begins she to realize that she may be Focus' mysterious long-lost partner, Scatter.

Transistor is about a woman who gains superpowers because the doctors forget to deactivate the supercomputer used in her gender-affirming surgery. It only really becomes an issue when an angry angel comes after her neighbour and long-term crush, very determined to kill her.

Aether has a disabled protagonist, who dies when the building blows up during an experiment. Luckily for her, her consciousness gets somehow preserved, and she gains extremely strong powers. Now she just has to stop the guy who caused the accident from doing it again...

Rhapsody isn't out yet, but based on the summary, it is going to go more into the dragon side of the lore.

#my favorite is Aether #it is also the one that has the most superhero plot #I also feel like it's better written than the rest IDK #also nice take on the 'disabled person gets healed by magic' trope #like yeah she's not disfigured any more #but now people are treating her differently because she's conventionally attractive #this is one of those 'perfectly imperfect' series for me #like yeah there are some writing bugs #especially in Transistor #some word repetitions that don't need to be there #the tone of the story doesn't quite match the incredibly high stakes #it's indie publishing these things are a feature not a bug #if I wanted perfectly polished I'd be watching Disney's superhero movies #You know what I wouldn't be getting there?#TRULY original new heroes #all of whom are disaster lesbians #it's great <3 #Hearts of Heroes #books #book rec #queer books #pride month #superheroes #lesbian #sapphic #wlw books

John is tired and Holmes DROPS BY HIM AT A QUARTER TO MIDNIGHT! Mind you, the man was literally falling asleep on his novel. I can imagine him interrupting mid-yawn opening the door and finding himself facing Holmes.

AND THEN THE MAN STARTS DEDUCING HIS DAY AND LIFE, as you do, obv

well, as you do. Watson is so gracious not to kill he man instantly as he raps out deductions almost at midnight to a man asleep on his feet. I want to underline this once again, Watson is a darling and too good for this world.

And then, and then and then. Watson noticed of course that there’s a case going on!

Well, at least Holmes worries about Watson being sleepy and tries to compress the story. Such a nice boy, he’s learning well.

i love dnd..i love playing heavy utility/support/backfield and i love having three to six attacks in a turn and an insane ac. at heart im a support player ill get my hands on whatever we're missing in a group

#looks at a druid a fighter and a bard fighter. okay cleric time.#i LOVE playing cleric turns out.#though abjuration wizard is still super super fun its a different flavor of support #it's not buffs it's 'i am going to transfer literally all that damage to myself and war caster style succeed my witchbolt concentration'#doing insane amounts of damage while taking damage (+ with temp hp and then just a lot of hp. im taking the tough feat as soon as possible)#aabria iyengar was right these abjuration wizards are craaaazy. but war domain clerics also fuck hard #my abj wiz is very much an experiment in 'what if someone who is not at all suited to this life tries to adapt as well as she can'#the point is that she isn't a cleric. do u understand. she's not a cleric and that's the point it's the. hbbbgbfhb. she's out here #functioning as a combat medic on some aasimar features + healing kits/potions + arcane ward. Look At Me #i also really enjoy playing nonreligious characters in these worlds where deities 100% exist not in a 'fuck the gods' way but in #a way somewhere between 'i'm all i need' and 'i called and no one answered' and 'may or may not go on an insane power hungry spiral and #try to get a touch of godhood' which is in part very due to my own agnostic and people-loving heart and 'haha what if i icarused this girl'#a resentful caution towards gods an immense respect towards religious companions and 'when your god isn't here to help. i will be'#anyway REACTION arcane ward you don't take damage im fine. next turn reaction shield ward's back up. the thing is.#she will drive her hp down. the ward isn't much like it goes past that temp hp. it's 14hp that shit goes down and carries to her hp #but it never drops. any leveled spell puts hp back into the ward. a 1st lvl shield puts it at 2hp and she can use it again #she is not suited for these conditions but my god it is fun to watch. i care her.#i explained that subclass feature to a player that's not in that campaign and said. like. yeah she can take damage. when her ward drops to #0 it carries to her. any leveled abj spell puts it back up. and she can use it and drive her hp down again.#do u understand what i am explaining to u! do you get it! she is and has always been a punching bag!#she was a very valuable asset to the army and the group she was drafted! into. because when she's there. people just don't fucking go down #aside from her. aside from her. AAAAH. she's so cool. she is very smart i am still riding the high of critting every turn w witchbolt and #reacting to ward a party member against a crit that would have dropped him by taking the hit herself. and she didn't break concentration #badass

I don't care that much about spoilers so sometimes I come across one by accident which would have been nice to not have been spoiled on but it's not that big of a deal and sometimes I spoil myself on purpose (there are faves of mine I wouldn't have started/continued if I hadn't gotten spoiled about something I thought would be interesting) and sometimes being spoiled on something gives me mildly to wildly wrong ideas about the story and how things get to that point and/or continue after it that it turns into a whole other experience.

#the only spoiler i can remember getting mad at is when i was reading pandora hearts online #on a site where you could add little notes to the page that other readers could see unless they turned that feature off #(don't remember the name of the site it was something generic like readmanga or mangahere or smth)#anyway some asshole had left a note with like *the* major spoiler for the entire manga on the first page #even if i don't care much about spoilers it was just a huge dick move #pandora hearts #svsss #mdzs #tgcf #mxtx #tsubasa reservoir chronicle #golden terrace #ascendance of a bookworm

Suddenly hit with the unfortunate realization that I have fallen out of love with Arknights

#not a reblog #arknights #whenever I've talked about it lately it's just been #''oh I still love Arknights of course #but [lists five gazillion problems I have with it #and reasons I have stopped playing]#But I'll at least come back for the Sui events!''#and only now did it occur to me that like #if playing it feels like a chore #and the story feels like a chore #and all the extra modes and features feel like a chore #and none of it is even slightly fun anymore #except for one very specific ongoing storyline #that only comes around once a year #then maybe I don't actually still love it #and it's just sunk-cost fallacy speaking #because I loved what it started out as #but not what it's turned into #i miss when I thought the reunion-vs-rhodes-island plot had something worthwhile to say about oppression #i miss heart of surging flame and grani's treasure #i miss when the gameplay was fun and didn't require surtr or holungday for everything #i miss when nearl was actually cool #i miss when the emphasis was on powerful women #and i miss when CC and SSS and whatever else weren't a thing #modules were the final nail in the coffin though. one thing too many to keep track of #i just miss Arknights #I guess there's still the anime at least #even if it suffers the same story problem of having to relegate the central political themes to subtext to avoid getting in trouble #and the time constraints of eight 20 minute episodes per season to adapt all the bloated textwalls #but still. its something at least
